SJM R/hysnad and Ic by like:
Tumblr media
Night Court has unclear middle-east allusions made by S/JM but Morrigan daughter of that court and "only dreamer of the court of nightmares" is described as a basic white/blond girl.
Nesta is an exception. A statistical flux.

Wait why do you hate acotar and rwrb?
ACOTAR, because SJM is pretty much a zionist, the book has poor representation, is quite tone-deaf, has shitty and juvenile writing, several instances of cultural appropriation, promotes a terrible message for women, overall is just very cringe, has spawned several even worse copy cats that saturate the book community but get major promo, pretty much glorifies double standards and abuse, is incredibly cliché and feels like that first slice of white bread, has a cult following of upper middle class white girls that refuse to acknowledge any criticism about it by POC
RWRB just because it terrorizes my bookstagram feed and timeline wayyy too much and I'm bored of hearing about it from the same oblivious demographic of upper class white girls on booktok and also this:

Never change Sarah Janet, never change. But seriously, it takes Julie Plec levels of misogynoir to be as committed to disrespecting Black women in real life as you are to disrespecting them in fiction.

The fact that I thought I'm reading a silly little book when I read acotar but suddenly things get so serious in acomaf and then we go to acowar we are back with silly goofy shit and by the time we get to acofas we are in some reality TV timeline and when acosf comes around Sarah gave up and thought screw it I write fan fiction🥴

Am I the only one who doesn't care about the Illyrians, the Valkyries, Ruhn x Lidia, CC universe/books and the crossover with CC? SJM is so bad at writing that NONE of the acosf plot had me invested. I'm waiting until the last acotar book, Elucien ,Tamlin and Koschei lol 😆
(I love Emerie, Nesta and Gwyn, but the story is already preparing the Valkyries to be Night Court cronies, with Emerie and Gwyn going star eyed when they saw Rhys).

Good Omens Aziraphale's Sad Bastard Breakup Playlist
After the breakup, Aziraphale has a new job in heaven, having taken Gabriel’s vacant position. Aziraphale is haunted by sad music reminding him of his time with Crowley. The songs are dramatic, tragic, melancholic, angry, wistful, romantic, and sentimental. How does he listen to music at his new job in the head office? Are material objects allowed? Does he keep a secret stash of tea, cake, and records and a phonograph player in his office? Does he have a celestial radio that can tune in Earth radio stations? Does he sneak off to Earth to hang out in record shops and bookstores? Or more dramatically and emotionally torturously, does he remember every note, every nuance, every feeling, of every song and replay them in his mind? He's stuffing his face with angel food cake and tea while crying and listening to sad bastard songs and hiding from Michael and the Metatron.
See note after list on song selection process.
Songs include:
“Lacrimosa” – Mozart, Requiem in D Minor, Vienna Mozart Orchestra
“Commendatore” – Mozart, Don Giovanni, Amadeus film soundtrack
“Ja, tot katoramu vnimala” – Rubenstein, The Demon, Nicolai Ghiaurov
“D’amour l’ardente flemme” – Berlioz, The Damnation of Faust, Maria Callas
“Liebestod” – Wagner, Tristan and Isolde, Waltraud Meier
“Ach ich fuhls” – Mozart, The Magic Flute, Gundula Janowitz
“Thy hand, Belinda … When I am laid in earth” – Purcell, Dido and Aeneas, Janet Baker
“E lucevan la stelle” – Puccini, Tosca, Placido Domingo
“Celeste Aidia” – Verdi, Aida, Mario Lanza
“Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen” Mahler, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau
“Der Wanderer” – Schubert, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau
“Love is a Plaintive Song” – Gilbert and Sullivan, Patience, D’Oyly Carte Opera Company
“I am a Courtier Grave and Serious” – Gilbert and Sullivan, The Gondoliers, D’Oyly Carte Opera Company
“The Gentleman is a Dope” – Rodgers and Hammerstein, Allegro, Blossom Dearie
“A Hymn to Him” – Lerner and Lowe, My Fair Lady, Rex Harrison
“Could I Leave You?” – Sondheim, Follies, Alexis Smith
“We Do Not Belong Together” – Sondheim, Sunday in the Park with George, Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin
“On My Own” – Schonberg, Les Misérables, Frances Ruffelle
“As Long as He Needs Me” – Bert, Oliver, Judy Garland
“Stranger in Paradise” – Wright and Forest, Kismet, Richard Kiley and Doretta Morrow
“A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” – Sherwin and Maschwitz, Vera Lynn
“Night and Day” – Porter, The Gay Divorcee, Ella Fitzgerald
“I’ve Got You Under My Skin” – Porter, Born to Dance, Shirley Bassey
“Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered” – Rodgers and Heart, Pal Joey, Sarah Vaughan
“They Can’t Take That Away From Me” – Gershwin, Shall We Dance, Fred Astaire
“Mon Deu” – Dumont and Vaucaire, Edith Piaf
“Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” – Dumont and Vaucaire, Edith Piaf
P.S.: Aziraphale likes Les Mis because it reminds him of that time Crowley rescued him from the Bastille. Don't tell anyone. It's a big secret.
P.P.S.: “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered” reminds him of the time he and Crowley got drunk in the backroom at the bookshop the day the anti-Christ was delivered to Earth. Basically, this song reminds him of every time they went out for drinks or stayed in and drank.
P.P.P.S.: “I am a Courtier Grave and Serious” was the song Aziraphale planned to play when trying to tempt Crowley into learning the gavotte. It reminds him of the ball in the bookstore when he finally danced with Crowley.
P.P.P.P.S.: “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” is as close as Aziraphale can get to telling the world and Crowley to eff off. He has no more effs to give. Or at least he’s trying to convince himself he no longer gives a f***. He’s going off to his new job at the head office and Do Good.
Note on song selection:
I selected songs that thematically fit with the relationship between Aziraphale and Crowley. I think the songs tell a story of Aziraphale’s struggle to reconcile his conflicted motivations. They reflect Aziraphale’s fears and desires. He fears being hauled off to hell for disobedience. He fears Crowley’s death and being alone in the world. He desires to be emotionally intimate with Crowley. (Dare he risk physical intimacy with Crowley?) He feels self-righteously indignant, but he’s soft and squishy and weepy and misses his best friend.
I don’t have much knowledge of opera or musical theater, but I have some experience with choir and solo performance. I did a lot of research into opera, art songs, musicals, showtunes, and standards to create a playlist on YouTube. Selections were based on availability, popularity, and sound quality. My big question was whether or not Aziraphale is a strict originalist or if he likes different versions of songs. In some places, I chose newer versions over original versions due to the sound quality of the recordings. I tried to keep selections accessible to a wide audience with varying degrees of musical knowledge. You may not like my choices, so your mileage may vary. You can make your own playlist.

I've seen posts a lot lately about how Nesta Antis wished that Nesta would've been self reflective and took accountability for her past actions, and I'm left a little stunned. Can you name a single character in any of SJMs books that has done that? It hasn't crossed your mind that SJM is incapable of writing characters with genuine remorse? She doesn't have the skill to write a character taking responsibility for the wrong they inflicted on others. Simply because she doesn't actually want you to see them as flawed or capable of evil. This is the same author that force-fed you excuses and justifications for a love interest SA the main character and you ate it up then asked for more.
SJM wants the title of Morally Gray for her characters with none of the actual meaning behind it. Kinda how she made Feyre High Lady in name only.
So no, Nesta was never going to reflect and apologize in the way you want. That would require Sarah Janet to know what an actual apology is. You can add "Apology" to the list of words she doesn't know the meaning of. Right next to "Assassin".

The thing is Feysands will always win. No matter how loud the antis are we are the ones who win. We are the ones blessed by miss Sarah Janet Maas. She keeps us fed
You can make up as much fanon as you want about why Feysand are evil and bad and are the worst, it doesn't change the fact SJM loves Feysand.
We are loved, we are fed. Thank you, Sarah.

I don't know if I'm the only one that thinks this, but I feel like ACOTAR should've been a standalone. Because it's a beauty and the beast retelling, or at least it started as one, and continuing the story had it trail from that. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, if Sarah Janet knew how to write and develop characters. But she just went and retconned and went completely out of character so she could push the story where she wants. There was no reason to do that to Tamlin. It feels like she just wanted to make it a series so she destroyed his character.
Oh, nonny, you're in the right place. I've talked about how acomaf is a bad sequel from many angles (thematically, character development wise, from a worldbuilding perspective, and the really shoddy timeline of the book overall) all throughout my anti acomaf tag, though my favorite posts about it are here, here, and here. And I've also discussed the many, many, MANY retcons in my acotar retcons tag. ACOMAF is very poorly written for a variety of reasons, but after thinking about it for a while, I think I know why Sarah retconned Tamlin into being abusive--because she needed a good reason for Feyre to prove Amarantha right. When Amarantha catches Rhysand sexually assaulting Feyre outside the ballroom, Amarantha literally says to Tamlin that it's only a matter of time before Feyre moves on, and that she and all humans have inconstant hearts. Sarah wanted Feysand engame, but she had to write it so that Amarantha wouldn't appear to be right. So Sarah made Tamlin abusive, therefore Feyre wouldn't be in the wrong for leaving him and falling in love with someone else (and she's not). Had Feyre fallen in love with Rhysand in literally any other scenario, where Tamlin's abuse was not present as she probably would have with the bargain forcing her to spend time with Rhysand and mating bond influencing her thoughts and emotions towards him Amarantha would have been proved correct. The only way Sarah could write Feysand without proving the villain of the first book correct was by vilifying Tamlin.

some multifandom ya and fantasy book opinions - part two
-> part one here
- No rep is better than bad rep. I genuinely prefer when authors just write what they know and do it well than write about marginalized groups and do it poorly. I don't even think it's a shortcoming if authors only write what they know and not write representation
- I have no idea if sjm is actually serious about this awful rhys-centric multiverse or of it's all a little social experiment she's running but if it's the latter then she deserves a nobel prize cus the stans seem unironically whipped omg
- I don't know why the notion of soulmates is portrayed as inherently romantic. Like ofc there are exceptions to this (tpw, tsc) but I don't get the link between a sexual/romantic relationship and then the concept finding your other half in the vast cosmos
- Rivals to lovers >>> Enemies to lovers
- Feminist mythology retellings are great. While I myself, like others, get annoyed that it's always Greek this Roman that (well, it has been for a few years now), that's really opened the doors for more cultures to do awesome retellings (see: Kaikeyi)
- This is actually a popular opinion but Circe and TSOA feel like they were written by different people sometimes. Like, Circe? Art. Literature. Beauty. On the other hand, TSOA for me is... well, just a book.
- Your adult fantasy ladies better start stretching it they even want to be able to reach where RF Kuang is at in terms of writing quality like she could eat them for breakfast and it's a fact
- The fact that so many TSC “stans” go out of their way to imply Cordelia is “hypersexualized” when she exists literally just as an average mc and love interest it's so screwed up because I think it says more about them and how they perceive her actions in relation to her ethnicity and gender than it says anything about how Cassie chose to write her (per my previous posts on this: leave Cordelia alone please and thanks)
- It’s time to stop giving only diasporic authors and diasporic stories (that are laden with just north american perspectives) all the attention, because while we do need these stories and perspectives, it’s also worth noting that persons from diasporic communities can be very much complicit in the harmful bigotry or white imperialism that disadvantages people in the places from which they or their forefathers came.

It kind of feels like Mor exists because of Rhys’s nonexistent sister. Like maybe she took his sister’s story and gave it Mor and killed off the sister just so Rhys had a sad backstory to excuse his actions. It would explain why Rhys has like… no memories with his sister.
Hi anon
Yea idk what is going on with all that. I honestly think sjm copy pasted a paragraph from an old draft and then didn't edit out Rhys saying he had a sister.
But let's get into that no memories bit because...
SJM pisses me off as a writer on a fundamental level that has nothing to do with pro or anti discourse. She's just so fucking bad at basic shit I cannot understand it. SHE'S SUCH A FUCKING FRAUD
How the FUCK does this man not even mention the names of his mother or sister once in the time he's talking about their wings and what happened with Tamlin's family???
How do we go three books in Feyre's head and she never once thinks of her parents own names???????
How does the King of Hybern play the antagonist of 2/3rds of a trilogy, literally show up and speak on multiple occasions but never get a name????????????????????
And it can't even be ass-pull-retconned like in tog where somehow Dorian was Dorian Jr all along
More than half the cast of acotar has no last names. And that could have just been a Fae thing if we didn't have the Vanserras.
I WANNA BE SARAH JANET SO BAD BECAUSE I ALSO WANT TO BE FUNDAMENTALLY BAD AT MY JOB BUT THRIVE IN THE INDUSTRY WHAT TYPE OF PREMIUM ASS PRIVILEGE IS THAT

Man, I just want some wholesome Nessian. But instead, I've got this tragic compilation of sentences called ACoSF.
Misogyny and hypocrisy aside for a minute, the book is also just such a godamn bummer. Except for every time the mcs banged, the book is unsatisfying and anti-climatic, through and through.
I don't know if I'm so bummed out by this book in particular out of the entire series only because I relate to Nesta, but c'mon, Sarah Janet Maas, really? Are you fucking kidding me?!
The charecters (most of them) were works of art, she did them bad.
Also, is it okay if I rant out my frustrations regarding the books here?(I won't do it very often, I swear)
No because same!! Acosf might just be my least favorite book. You’d think Nesta would’ve had an amazing book considering she’s a good character and had a lot of potential but then we got that piece of trash instead. The whole thing is just Nesta being controlled, Feyre’s pregnancy, smut (which I hated), and the only good part- the Valkyries. As much as I hate the fact that she became a warrior, I am glad she got Gwyn and Emerie. Other than that, sjm sucks at writing about mental health, and should just stick to her mating bonds which she also sucks at writing but at least it’s not as harmful as writing about a woman who is mentally unstable and “healing” because she got her choices taken away from her. She didn’t just give Nesta a shitty story, she also showed us how the inner circle have absolutely no respect for Feyre. She showed us why the Archerons should stay away from them, not become one of them (they’ll never truly be one of them anyway)

hey im gisele :) a multishipper and writer. mostly i write for acotar with an emphasis on feylin and a number of nesta ships. there will be discourse here and the occasional anti/critical rhysand, feysand, the ic and sjm content. i have no problem if you love those things and still want to follow me, just please be respectful and i shall do the same. and remember if i'm not your cup of tea it's easier and kinder to block me than it is to send anon hate or resort to bullying. 💚 / (banner template by @cafekitsune / dividers by saradika)

things and topics you'll find here : an unapologetic love for tamlin, nesta and lucien + the perpetual mourning of feyre archeron's human heart + frustration (and most times irritation) for the lost potential of rhysand and his inner cave + endless contempt for sarah janet.
non-acotar related things and topics : atla, hotd (mostly the greens), asoiaf/got, the last kingdom, resources (writing help, fanfic dividers, etc.)
note: i don't follow blogs with a healthy reblog rate of gifs, as it gives me headaches and overheats my phone when i'm using it (which is 90% of the time). if we're mutuals and i unfollow randomly (without blocking you), this is probably the reason why. it's nothing personal and i will still be stalking you, i just can't deal with having so many gifs on my dash T T

I'm sorry, but the whole Multiverse that SJM is trying to create may just be WHY I'm thinking of never buying a SJM book ever again. I love Lucien, and I love Elucien, but CC2 has just messed up my mind in an emotional way, and all those theories for CC3 and Acotar 5 and 6 are just giving me stress that I wouldn't have felt if I had read the Lord of the rings books (I tried reading the first book of lotr, and it was too much for me, but cc2 is 10 times worse).
Like, I hoped that we would be able to get Eluciens story without any more problems that didn't have anything to do with the acotar plot (asteri, hel) but the multiverse is really making the acotars villain, Koschei, look like fucking childplay compared to the Asteri and the villains in CC2.
I hoped that we would get Vassa and Jurian, Elain and Lucien without having to read about the Asteri or even CC2 to be able to read a good story, but the multiverse leaves people with little choice but to simply suffer through more Rhysand content and the CC2 plot, making people have no choice but to buy cc2 and another irrelevant sjm book if they ever wished to be ale to understand future acotar books.
If I wanted to read a book about Lucien, I wouldn't be able to buy another sjm book UNTIL his specific book came out.
I deserve better. I shouldn't have to waste my money unless I wanted to. Someone, someday, please. . . cancel SJM.

I fucking love your Nesta Vs The Buffer fic and the way you treated Nesta so well. I love the way the antis treat one of the most misunderstood and over hated characters in the fandom. Like yes, she deserves so much and more 🤗🤗🤗. How long before we turn sjm/Sarah Janet Maas into a slur?
