Severitus.
Think with me, Petunia only met James once, and she was trying to forget the memory more and more. Dumbledore, McGonagall and Hagrid had only seen Harry as a baby.
I need a fanfiction where Hagrid comes pick Harry up, takes a look at the boy and goes: "This is not James' son."
Black greasy hair, pale skin, big nose.
The was no deniability, the kid looked exactly like a mini Professor Snape, unless, of course, for the famous scar and the eyes — ah, Lily's eyes! Would it be true? Lily Potter was a cheater?!
I doubt that Petunia would even remember that one neighbor she had as a child, who spent most of the year away, that was just as freaky as the sister she was trying to forget and who she hadn't seen in more than a decade, let anole realize that the kid, who she rather pretend didn't exist, looked like him.
//
Snape had alittle petty smile on the lips, realizing that James Potter had sacrificed his little life to save not only a baby that wasn't his, but no other than Severus —no, Snivellus' son.
At same time, somewhere in the other side, James was smiling too, when Snivellus' son got sorted into Gryffindor, basically begging to not go to his father's beloved Slytherin.
//
Rita Skeeter was reveling with the news. The Daily Prophet's machetes spent weeks looking like:
"Young Savior Harry Potter enters Hogwarts with Shocking Scandal!"
"The myth of purity of Lily and James Potter: AFFAIR?!"
"Harry Potter isn't a Potter at all!"
"The Boy Who Lived and the MOTHER WHO CHEATED?!"

Three opinions on popular ships nobody asks for
(I wanna say that I’m a sucker for aesthetics, and usually go with my gut, my opinions are a reflection of that. I don’t look at the practical side of the ship, it’s only a ship after all. So I’m just having fun.)
(My opinions aren’t relevant, I believe that everyone should respect what the other person wants, as long as it isn’t harmful, so yeah enjoy!)
WOLFSTAR:
Why? It just doesn’t sit right with me. Not that I don’t enjoy it being a background ship, sometimes it’s really wholesome and well writen.
And then again my headcanon is that Sirius is platonic soulmates with James, although that doesn’t cut Remus out of the picture.
I really enjoyed them in fics, but I usually filter them out, alongs side with…
JEGULUS:
No…? I mean you do you but… God it makes me uncomfortable.
First of all, I do love “My big brothers best friend” trope, but in this scenario…
Although canon has never stopped me before, and I feel like a hypocrite, again I remind myself I am allowed to like what I like.
SNILLY:
And Snilly… people might hate me for this but the country I live in is theoretically free so lets go. Have you seen those Trans!Lily and Severus fan fics?
God that had me have an epiphany, before that I believed that their love for each other was strictly platonic, and from all the variants I enjoy Platonic!Snilly most.
But god damn if Trans!Lily or straight up gender bended isn’t nectar for my ears and eyes.
And damn me but if they are both gender bended then I might start jumping.

I could make a lot of paralelism between Sirius relationship with James and Severus relationship with lily . They both acted mostly not so much out of their own good intentions but in the name of an old friendship now lost not in small part because of their own actions . Sirius was the one who convinced James to change secret keepers , to trust Pedigreew and not Lupin after all . But for all that I hate James Potter and I like the idea of sev and lily tougher , I also have to admit that Sirius had a lot more reasons to act in James memory than Snape ever did for Lily (at least the cannon one ) James helped Sirius to leave his family , give him a place to stay a family , supported him in Gryphon, and decided to stand by him even when his darker nature came out to play(not that James dint have a darkness of his own so that could be taken in many ways ) , even when he betrayed Lupin and by extension all of them , nealy making the accessories at a murder, (of witch they would have been the main suspects )even showed him the upmost trust by leaving his son with him ...shame that Lily couldn't see ,while James was manipulating her into dating him , that she could have actually learned a lot about true friendship from him even if it was a pretty codependent one . She had been around the marauders a lot during her last few years after all , but then again she refused to see that they were far from perfect and yet remained friends despite that , so she was never forced to face her own mistakes .( I always thought that both James and Sirius were projecting the things they saw as wrong in their relationship into Lily and Severus respectively )

Hi! Recently discovered your blog and really love it! I've been making my way through your posts (as I'm sure you've noticed, sorry) and I've noticed that some from like 2018ish are still pretty relevant to Snape discussions today. I'm fairly new to the fandom so I was wondering: have the anti snape people just been recycling the same talking points for the past 4-5 years? That would be kind of depressing if so, since so many of these arguments are just bad and you'd think that they'd trickle out as people realize it... Or have you noticed some definite trends in the arguments and talking points surrounding Snape that have changed over the years?
it's funny bc i dont really pay that much attention to notifications (every once in a while i dive in to see if there's any responses/tags i want to respond to, but otherwise they're white noise 2 me) but i can always tell when someone's just found this blog bc a lot of times i'll get so many notifs from them in a row. so no need to say sorry! there's no bigger compliment to me than someone who wants to keep all my opinions about snape lmao.
anyway, hand to god, i'm pretty sure anti-snape people decided on their four arguments about ten years back and have just been recycling them with different wording ever since. there are arguments i remember seeing in ye olde harry potter fandom that are almost unchanged today. the pervasive idea of snape as a creepy stalker, that snape traumatized neville, and that snape willing gave up harry and james to "have" lily are the three i've noticed just have stuck around for so, so, so long. it's VERY frustrating.
to be fair, hp has regurgitated plenty of fandom discourse just by way of being a long-lived fandom with a healthy and quarrelsome fan base. but the snape arguments in particular always seem especially long-lived. i don't think i noticed exactly how repetitive they were until i ran this blog and started seeing them crop up over and over (and over and over).
in the anti arguments, the main thing i've noticed though is the same thing i think everyone's noticed about the way people talk about characters they don't like - there's so many social justice buzzwords thrown in to "prove" a character is "problematic." back in ye olde hp fandom days, there were plenty of people who didn't like snape and there were shipping wars and such (jilly vs snilly and so on) but the vitriol about snape being abusive and problematic and so on is something that's a more recent trend and is really born out of the way people need to make characters they dislike morally bad so they can feel justified in it. (the inverse is also true - the push to make james and the marauders feminists and such all comes from the desire to make characters we like better/less "problematic.") there's been a much steadier shift from "i don't like snape and i think he's mean" to "i think snape is actually the most evil, abusive character who traumatizes children for fun and doesn't mind killing babies" (all arguments i've seen at least once if not multiple times lol).
on the flip side, from the pro-snape camp, i feel like the arguments around snape have become more nuanced and there's been a lot more mining of material. that said, there's also a lot more defensiveness - whereas before there could be a live and let live attitude about anti snape people, now it really does feel like you have to defend on all sides just to say something about a fictional character you like. so that leads to a lot more snappish discourse than there used to be over snape on both sides tbh.
but aside from discourse, the trend i've really loved seeing is how much more we've pushed to examine snape's identity - the uptick in ace!snape and trans!snape headcanons, the queer shipping with snape, and so on are much more varied than back in the old days where you basically had... snilly as a major pairing and snape as a het white dude and that was it. (at least in my corner of fandom!)

not a request, just a question, but say Snape and Lilly made up during their school years; do you think he could continue being close friends with her even with her dating James (or anyone else for that matter)? or do you think it would have been better for him to move on and focus on himself/find new friends? 🥲
Anti-lilly and anti-snilly below so don't read if it may offend you, I won't deal with any haters either this is just my own personal opinion based on what I've read/noticed when reading the books!
I think Snape and Lilly would have grown apart for some reason or another anyway. They didn't have anything in common, in fact, I personally think that Lilly was just friends with him out of convenience. She was nice enough to him and that was why he thought of her as his best friend. Sev craved friendship so he ignored all the red flags and clung to their friendship like his life depended on it. He wanted it to work out no matter what. He wanted Lilly to see him they same way he saw her, but I don't think she ever truly did consider him her best friend. She had plenty of other friends, but to Sev, she was all he had.
We all know he was super smart and gifted in school, I think it's highly likely she kept him around to use him to help her with her own assignments and projects. They probably were potion partners and partnered up in other classes they had together for this very reason. Lilly also just doesn't seem like the type of person to care about other's interests and to let them talk about them. She outright spoke badly about all of Severus's interests. A good friend would allow you to talk about what you like and they would encourage you to continue doing what makes you happy. They would understand they don't have any control over you and what you like and that ultimately it doesn't effect them.
Also, Severus was willing to apologize for his mistakes, own up to them, and want to do better (ie when he called her a mudblood). Lilly NEVER apologized for laughing/smiling at how James was bullying him. She wasn't willing to acknowledge how rude and unthoughtful that was and how that made Severus feel. I mean if my 'best friend' was smiling at me getting bullied, we wouldn't be friends anymore. In fact I'd drop them right there. She placed all the blame of their friendship falling apart all on him and his one mistake which he profusely regretted. I think she was just looking for any excuse to end things with him. She was tired of him.
I've had friendships with people like her before and they ended badly. Severus should have left her alone a long time ago and he should have focused on himself and finding better friends. She obviously didn't care about him that much to treat him so poorly. She never really cared about their friendship. He was a means of giving her something she wanted and when he was no longer useful she piled up all his mistakes against him and acted like she had no part in it when she did.

The fact is I can stand hinny and drarry at the same time romione prongsfoot harmione dramione hedric dracoxneville hansy ransy ginnyxblaise linny every single one of them sirius x severus (actually an interesting and enjoyable one) James x Severus wolfstar jily (I love it) siriusxfenrir (and I know well written ones) even snilly marylily pandalily everylily everywlw everymlm everyhet and everypoly — I mean every ship and every canon and every hc joke art fic BUT. It's jegulus (the second name for drarry and the thrid name for jamesxseverus — but more misogynistic — and this is ridiculous because those two is ...phobic enough). That thing, in fact, ruined Sirius's character and Jily's dynamic. And siriusx/&james siriusx/&lily sirius&harry LILY&HARRY dynamics. I mean I could eat the cringiest weirdest creppy stuff except for jegulus I hate it I hate it I hate it😭😭😭 I'm only posting on tiktok and not really watching but accidentally there's rec tt where "sirius'd chose remus over james" bro spent 12 years in horrifying prison bc of guilt for Halloweens accident noooooooooo "remus is an uncle moony" noooo he never gave a little fuck to harry "lily is a bad mothr" i need helppppp i need helppppppp and fresh air😭😭😭 well I didn't want to be an anti remus at this one but suddenly I became 😢 couldn't resist... that pathetic man

Someone pointed out to me that Snape would have treated Harry so much different if he had been a girl and looked like Lily.
It just gives me the creeps thinking about how he would probably obsessed over her and... ugh. 😖

SNAPE IS A BULLY
The story of Snape and lily hits right in the heart doesn't it?
But if you look at from a real life perspective, it takes a darker turn. Let's take a look at;
- lily is a coloured friend and Snape is Caucasian
- they both are best friends
- Snape loves lily but she doesn't like him in the same way
- after getting proof of the facts she's dating some else
- in a fit of rage he calls her a racial slur/ the n-word in public
- and goes on to join the KKK
- and has a active part involving her death
- bullies Harry because of a grudge on a dead man
- in the end very few people liked him
- also snarry is gross as hell and you need revaluate some stuff if you think that could happen
Extra
- also Harry naming his son after him and albus....Nah
- cursed child is not valid
- Harry would never marry someone that looks like his mum
- his 'love' for lily was more like a obsession
- he ruined the future generations of healers and mediwitches and auors
- I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH HE IS NOT FIT TO BE A TEACHER, EVEN THOUGH HE IS A MASTER POTIONEIRE

My reaction to Snape X anyone

You didn't specify a ship pairing so would you do a snilly angst?
Oh boy. Angst it is!
~
“You don’t love me - you could never love me,” Lily says, her hair like an orange flame around her head as she flinched back, eyes blazing and cheeks rosy.
“That’s not true,” Severus splutters out; she was so beautiful, perfect like no other girl, the curves of her body and the greenness of her eyes.
Lily laughs, scornfully as she spits, “Loving someone and wanting to own them are two different things.”

People who ship snily are always the ones who relate to snape more than Lily
People who know what it's like to be in Lily's position know what it's like to have a close friend feel like you owe them more than your friendship, and people who know what snapes position feels like just see themselves as the nice guy who the girl never realized was right in front of her.
