shout-out to anyone with a preventable disability. shout-out to the frustration and the pain and the grief and the rage. if your disability was caused by ignorance or negligence or malice or chance i see you. if someone else had made a difference choice or if you could have made different choices i see you. i see your pain. you are no less entitled to feel that grief even if you could have done something. you shouldn’t be in pain even if you caused it. i forgive you, i see you. if someone else caused your disability i see you. you’re entitled to rage and grief and confusion. to everyone who sees people ignoring the same advice that could have prevented your own suffering, i see you. i see your sorrow, your indignation, your desperation. It’s frustrating when people don’t take your advice because they can’t see the looming outcome. Even when you’re right there.

oh, holocaust themed romance aren’t a new thing to me sadly!! i remember once on twitter there was “debate” about the sexuality of anne frank, if she can consider a bisexual or not, and i thought i saw everything up to this point in my life. so i realized if people actually debating on that & while ABSOLUTELY disrespecting a dead jewish 14 years old girl who died during the holocaust because in their prospective her father cut out lgbtq themed out of her dairy…. like excuse me but what the actual fuck. like what the actual fuck is wrong with people
the idea is just so absolutely insane to me bc all i've ever read (and seen) has been first-hand accounts. after i saw the post i googled "holocaust romance" and literally couldn't belive my eyes. germany is by far not a shining example for anti-semitism but i guess other countries do even less to educate their citizens.
i remember the anne frank debate, but after the justin bieber incident and the tfios movie it sadly wasn't a surprise to me to see people disrespect her.
people basically writing "holocaust fanfiction" (whether they name it as such or not) and treating jewish people as characters instead of human beings is something so insanely emotionally-detached-from-reality that i have difficulties wrapping my mind around it, but i guess the internet just shows us what has always been there but went unseen by everyone else.

Bring Him Home is the perfect example of why I prefer Kurt’s singing to Rachel’s. Rachel sings it like she’s there to win and to show everyone what she can do; Kurt sings it like he desperately wants Marius to be okay. Rachel’s performance is all about her, but Kurt’s is all about the song, and that’s what makes his so great.

concept: ANTI-SPOILERS
I'm talking about telling people wrong stuff about a story by changing a major plot detail. and watch them stew in anger while anticipating shit.
call me evil all you like, but you could be doing them a favor, right?
yes I'm talking about the time I convinced my friend that Hazel dies in TFiOS when she was reading it.

My diagnosis wasn’t as serious as cancer. There’s no question of it spreading. There’s no fear about its return. You’re diagnosed and that’s it. You can get treated for it, but you have it for life. It’s called scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine. I was diagnosed when I was 13, and had surgery on my thoracic region at 15. I was lucky, though. I didn’t have a halo, and I never had the pain. It doesn’t mean it wasn’t scary. I had never had surgery before, though I had been in hospital. I’m not stating this for pity. I’m stating this because I’m proud. On 15 July 2018 I will be ten years post-op. 📚To me, this quote has a power I wanted after. There’s a truth to this that those of us who have been hospitalised, who have lived at the whims of doctors and nurses for however long understand and latch onto. We don’t choose what happens to us. We didn’t choose to spend part of our lives in hospital, but we can choose the people we surround ourselves with. We have the power to rid them from our lives. 📚I got my B.A. in December 2016. I want to go to grad school in fiction, move to Boston, travel, be a published author. The scar down my back is a reminder of a side of my story I didn’t talk about for four years. Through a nonfiction workshop I took my last year of undergrad I have come to terms with it being a part of the fabric of my life. 📚I am a writer and a reader, a daughter, a cousin, a friend. I am a blogger and an Anglophile. If you wish to judge me, judge me on my politics, the fact I am a Spurs fan, that I’m anti-SeaWorld and pro-choice, that I believe climate change is a very real problem, and, above all, judge me by my writing @bostonchildrens @susquehannau @johngreenwritesbooks #susqu2016 #scoliosis #scoliosisawareness #scoliosisawarenessmonth #life #writer #fiction #nonfiction #poetry #reader #blogger #anglophile #travel #europe #canada #usa #politics #democrat #THFC #COYS #emptythetanks #captivitykills #prochoice #climatechange #climatechangeisreal #tfios #johngreen (at Quebec, Quebec)

So my friends are anti-john green so I can't tell them about this but I'm really excited so: my bookstore had a screening of tfios in honor of his new book & then a scavenger hunt afterwards and they were going to have a raffle for signed copies but since they had enough for everyone who did the scavenger hunt we all got to buy the signed ones so I got a signed copy of turtles!!im so excited, I wasn't even planning to go since my friends would think it's embarrassing but I'm so so glad I did
That sounds like so much fun! Bookstores around me don’t do fun stuff like that - I’m so envious ;) But I’m glad you enjoyed it. You shouldn’t have to miss out on fun things like that just because your friends don’t want to go. Love what you love - to paraphrase the wise words of John Green (or it might’ve been Hank), there’s nothing wrong with being unironically enthusiastic about something that you enjoy. DFTBA ^.^

was tagged by: @bellamymccalls (Ahh, thank you for the tag! It was a super pleasant surprise!) rules: complete the qualities with books you’ve read or want to read (novels, plays, stories, etc.) then tag some friends.
book i love: It’s honestly been so long since I’ve had to really think about books, but one that I frequently return to is a book called Hawksong by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. While the characters are a little flat, the story itself is enough to pull you through. It’s just a classic tale of two young future monarchs making peace between their warring peoples by marrying each other and ending up actually loving each other as a result. Something I especially love about the plot is that both young monarchs end up in trouble at one point or another, and it has enough angst and fluff combined that it’s all just kind of perfect. Also, shapeshifters? It’s a short but lively read about culture shock, romance, and bravery. It’s one of my favorites.
book i hate: Honestly, if I hate a book, I tend not to finish it. That being said, I’m not sure there’s a book I genuinely despise. There was books that I hate the idea of, such as 50 Shades of Grey, but since I’ve never read it, I couldn’t tell you. If I hear bad things about a book and what it represents, I stay away. So I don’t think I’ve ever finished a book that I didn’t enjoy. Not even for an English class! (Because if I didn’t like it, I didn’t finish it, haha.)
book i think is underestimated: Hum. It’s more of a series, but as STUPID as it sounds, Vampire Academy and Bloodlines by Richelle Mead. These books, while written and created during the vampire hype that Twilight created (don’t watch the movie and then judge the books for it, please, I have my opinions about the movie and how it was handled), and somewhat “immature,” I honestly think they’re among my favorites. I read and reread them during college and haven’t had the time to since, but... honestly, the first series is at its heart the story of two best friends and their journey. It touches on a lot of dark subjects, and I don’t think that Richelle Mead does a bad job of handling them. Also, the ships are A++, and the characters are funny as hell, and the vampire mythology is kind of interesting. While I do think that the stories get twisted in the end to make happy endings, I personally am a huge fan of happy endings. Bloodlines I think is an even better series, because it’s the journey of a girl who realizes the life she leads isn’t the right one, and how she ends up navigating this and changing for the better. Good stuff all around. They’re definitely teen books but I think they’re great.
book i think is overvalued: The Fault in Our Stars. Without a doubt. Most of John Greene’s writing actually. I have nothing against the man, and I do think he’s brilliant, and yay for authors from Indiana! Especially since TFIOS takes place in Indianapolus, which was really cool. But the most I get out of that book and John Greene in general are good quotes. I think the way he writes teenage girls is a little... outdated? That’s probably not the right word, but, I don’t think his stuff is all its cracked up to be. And I’ve read two/three of his novels.
book i want to see in a movie version: Words cannot express how much I would give to see an ethnically accurate and well-done version of Tamora Pierce’s The Immortals series done with good special effects. Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors of all time, and the world of Tortall is honestly a lot more diverse than I originally gave it credit for? The angst and feels are real in her series. I’d also love to see Alanna’s series too. Just anything by Tamora Pierce? Magic, diversity, sexuality, all the good stuff done in relatively PG/PG-13 books. It’s good stuff!
last book i read: I’m just about finished with it, so I’d like to think I can count it. The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima, which is a promising start to a series by this author! Looking at all the events that transpired, it seems a little slow, but it’s still pretty interesting and I’m interested to see where these characters’ journeys go. It was an example of two characters who shouldn’t ordinarily meet, and whose storylines are completely divided and yet intertwined and they collided for a brief time in this novel. It was a good read!
book or saga i want to finish: The Lightbringer series, by Brent Weeks! I’m easily distracted and I’m in the middle of the second one right now. I love the characters and the story’s super cool with a lot of twists and turns.
book or saga i don’t want to finish: Any of Cassanda Clare’s stuff, honestly. I read through the first three of her Shadowhunters series and enjoyed them, but when I read the fourth, it just seemed awful and like a lot of audience pandering. She just feels... slimy, to me? Especially knowing about all the fanfiction and plagiarism beforehand. Call me petty and grudgeholding, but I just... do not enjoy that someone made money and became famous off something she originally stole from others, no matter how much she twisted it.
next book: Either the next Seven Realms novel (The Exiled Queen) or the next Lightbringer novel.
the worst end: As much as I love, love, love Richelle Mead’s work, the ending to the Bloodlines series felt so anti-climactic and silly to me? I expected a lot more given how great the middle of the series was. It was kind of a letdown.
