So I realise that the real reason was probably "let introduce more animals so we can show of our cool realistic animation" but why did it just hit me that atleast part of the reason why Disney introduced in Lion King remake a small community of animals that lived in the paradise was so people would stop making the "Simba was adopted by a gay couple" jokes?
Those fuckers straightwash Lion King!

The fact that Dave Filoni called Anakin “the greatest Jedi ever” is proof that he’s bias AF. His anti-Jedi rhetoric is bupkis.
I wonder if he means "the greatest" in terms of in-universe fame...?
Dunno if this is the case in Canon (then again Dave Filoni blatantly ignores any *non-motion* transmedia elements in Canon so meh), but in Legends he's:
"Anakin Skywalker, the Hero with no Fear™, handsome, dashing, the face of the Republic's army during the Clone War, the only Jedi who tried to resist the nefarious Order's coup and was treacherously murdered for it".
And I seem to remember that, in Canon, he's like the Jedi Temple's superstar anyway, every Jedi recognizes him on sight. I mean, that line from Baylon about "Anakin speaking highly of Ahsoka" must have some meaning beyond artificial personal stakes.
So from a fame and a "power level" standpoint... sure.
He's the greatest.
I'm giving Filoni the benefit of the doubt.
While I've talked about why Filoni's entire headcanon about the Jedi doesn't track with what George Lucas' intended narrative, I think it's worth acknowledging that Filoni's bias comes from part of his duties while directing The Clone Wars was.
One of the goals of TCW was humanizing Anakin, expanding upon his character make him go from "a character whose only purposes is to embody the themes presented in three movies based on the matinee serial format" to a relatable person, a good man, the hero Ben mentions to Luke in A New Hope.
I think it's normal that he'll see Anakin in a more positive light.
Also (and full disclosure this is just me theorizing I am no authority on any of this so if turns out I'm wrong just come right out and say so)...
I'm pretty sure that Filoni, Lesley Headland and most of the recent Star Wars authors are all Gen X, raised by baby boomers forced to conform to society, obey authority and have proper decorum (boys don't cry!) all of which they strove to rebel against. Add to that the corruption they witnessed growing up and coming out of high school, and you see a kind of jadedness emerge. "The rules aren't as black and white, the world is grey."
So while most of them and the boomers despised the Prequels upon release, a few of them projected a more individualistic headcanon onto those movies that fit with where their head was, at the time.
As such: Anakin isn't interpreted by them as a cautionary tale about what happens when you're greedy. He's a misunderstood rebel, a non-conformist who has his flaws but is ultimately good at heart. Which isn't entirely inaccurate, but it is very clearly an embellishment of a character who will one day become a space nazi.
The fact is... the Prequels were made by a boomer. One with very liberal values and who was himself a rebel, but a boomer all the same. The whole point of his story is...
"we all must come together and fight as one, if push comes to shove; we must all be compassionate and selfless if we are to survive; don't be greedy, let people go when it's their time to leave".
And then he makes the Jedi say that, making them beacons of truth and good and compassion in his fairy tale, now aimed at Gen Z kids.
Gen X-ers hear/read that and project all the boomer BS they had been told onto the Jedi...
"oh, so the Jedi are saying you shouldn't love yourself, you shouldn't be yourself, you should give up on what makes you an individual to fit in, you shouldn't feel any emotions"
Because nobody is that good, realistically, right?
This happened in other mediums. The one that comes to mind on the spot is the relationship between Mufasa and Scar.
In The Lion King, Mufasa is strong and noble, Scar is weak and conniving. Simple enough. Around that same time, in A Tale of Two Brothers, young Mufasa is shown to be pretty nice with Taka (Scar), who is framed as a spoiled brat to begin with.
Skip to the 2019 remake, and it's hinted Mufasa gave Scar his wound, and in The Lion Guard they explain that Scar got his nickname from Mufasa mocking him for a misadventure.
He went from being a noble king to a bully who had it coming, Scar is an underdog who got picked on. Because again: nobody is that pure, right? Fairytales be-damned.
Nothing is black and white, it's all grey.
So yeah, long story short I do think that Filoni being part of the generation that wasn't the target demographic but was old enough to retcon the crap out of the Prequels also plays a role into his view of Anakin.

— WHO IS ROULETTE?
ROULETTE is a fictional five-member girl group under BE:Ond Media. Their label was originally created for the purpose of music, but has had more success in the areas of television and film, producing some of the most critically acclaimed films of the past fifteen years. As for their music department, the lineup was extremely lackluster. There have been two groups that debuted since BE:Ond's launch in 2008; VYBE, a boy group that lasted from 2009-2013 and LUMIN8, a girl group that lasted from 2012-2019. VYBE was lauded as a flop group and LUMIN8 had a few popular songs, but it was never enough to gain them real traction.
It wasn't until ROULETTE debuted with their digital single "UNFORGIVEN" that BE:Ond's music branch would be put on the map. The song was a moderate success. It didn't get them any wins, but it attracted a lot of eyes to the group. Netizens were particularly interested in how this group from a company with such bad luck and mismanagement of their previous groups managed to not only produce extremely talented trainees but also trainees who were somewhat popular on their own in the case of members like CHERRY and JIHYE. Their major break would come after their third release and first mini album, "BEAT OF MY DRUM". The song went viral for its strange sound and its complete deviation from their debut release. The song earned them their first two wins.
They're now known as 4th generation trendsetters and are one of the most recognizable groups of the time. Their success has shown no signs of slowing down, but fans and antis alike wonder how long the group can hold up before it comes crumbling like their sister and brother groups.

YASMIN BROOKS was born in London to two musical theatre actors. The couple met on the West End production of The Lion King, with her mother playing Nala and her father a dance captain and ensemble member. Music and dance was always a part of her life. From a young age, she was heavily involved in musical theatre classes and projects. At age 10, her family relocated back to New York, where her father was originally from. In New York, she attended performing arts schools through high school. After school, she joined a dance crew and performed as a background dancer. BE:Ond held an international audition in New York and Yasmin auditioned and signed with the company.
Yasmin only trained for a year and a half since she already had a lifetime of vocal and dance training. Although she had over 15 years of experience, she states that this year of her life was the hardest she'd ever had to endure. Being placed in a new country with basic knowledge of the language, thousands of miles from family, and being judged every day by superiors and peers was an extreme shock for Yasmin. Fans noticed that during the group's first year, Yasmin was notably the quietest and most reserved. It wasn't until the group started to get their footing that Yasmin began to show her personality more. Now, she's one of the most popular members internationally and is known for her stage presence.

NAM CHAE-RI was born in Sokcho, South Korea to a schoolteacher mother and a chef father. Her father owned a restaurant near the beach that was fairly popular with locals. One day, a BE:Ond scout came to her family's restaurant and Chae-ri happened to sing a song for one of the regulars. The scout gave her parents his card afterward and she was soon signed as a trainee at the company.
Though she had no prior training, her secret weapon was her ability to memorize. She could learn a full choreography and execute it with ease in a few hours. Her dance ability and hard-working mentality quickly made her a favorite trainee around the BE:Ond building. Her hard work started to pay off when she went on PRODUCE48. She made it up to rank 18 before being eliminated. Her time as a Produce 48 contestant brought a lot of initial eyes to the group's debut, as Chae-ri was a fan favorite who seemingly disappeared after the show. Cherry is known most in the group for her dance skills and visuals.

WU MEI-HUA was born in Shanghai, China to a mother who was a former model and entertainer and a father who works in finance. The details of her father's occupation are vague, even to Mei herself, but the one thing that can't be contested is that her family is loaded. Beautiful beach getaways and trips to Milan were commonplace for her family.
With their stacks of money, Mei had access to amazing vocal coaches who trained her already sweet tone into one that sounded like honey. She auditioned for BE:Ond when she was sixteen and quickly joined the company. From the group's debut, there have been rumors that Mei's father bought her way into the company and/or into ROULETTE's lineup. Both Mei and BE:Ond have vehemently denied any sort of foul play in the selection process.

MALI SUPARAT was born in Hat Yai, Thailand as the second youngest of seven children. Her childhood wasn't the best; she was raised more by her older brother than her parents because they were busy trying to provide for their family. When Mali turned six, her aunt who lived in L.A. offered to take in Mali and her younger sister to help alleviate some of her parent's stress. A few months later, she was in the States.
While living in L.A., she got extremely interested in dance and K-pop. One of her favorite groups in middle school was LUMIN8. Mali decided to send an online audition to BE:Ond, performing one of LUMIN8's most popular songs, Catch Me If You Can. This audition tape went viral after ROULETTE's debut and Mali was asked to perform it at nearly every variety show during their debut run. Out of all the girls, Mali has had the most scandals regarding her attitude and comments towards antis, obsessed fans, and even other idols. She's explained that things are taken out of context because of her blunt nature and sarcastic jokes, but it has made Mali somewhat of a polarizing ember in the lineup.

KWON JIHYE was born in Ulsan, South Korea as the only child of a former model and a talent agent. Her father wasn't in the picture a lot outside of birthdays or Christmas. Maybe a visit once else throughout the year, but nothing substantial. Jihye's time was consumed most by beauty pageants, dance classes, and private lessons. Her mother pushed for her to be the best in all areas. If she couldn't achieve all the milestones she wanted in her modeling career, she would make sure that her child had the opportunity to.
At the young age of 14, her mom applied for her to audition for SM Entertainment. She was rejected on her first try but was accepted as a trainee on her second try a few months later. Jihye became a part of SM Rookies and was a well-known trainee around the company. In 2020, she left SM to join BE:Ond for better chances at a debut. Jihye has always been one of the more popular members due to her experience and calm, alluring personality that draws fans in.
A year after their debut, Jihye went on hiatus. Fans were shocked and upset, especially since it was extremely sudden; the night before Jihye was on live, seemingly in good spirits and there was no mention of a hiatus at all. The next morning, BE:Ond announced that the group's following comeback would only be as four. The exact reason why she was leaving was never revealed. The most the company or Jihye gave was an "unexpected health emergency". When Jihye returned, some select fans turned into OT4 supporters and believed that the group was better without her in it.

I see a lot of people not liking the new little mermaid live action casting because Ariel is black and I think that’s stupid people should care that they casted a person who couldn’t sing as Ursula and also the movie is going to be bad not because of the main actress but because Disney is going to fuck up the plot like they have with every single live action remake
Yeah, honestly. A black version of The Little Mermaid had potential imo, but the more I think about it, and as I look at the cast, I just see issues.
They didn't even make Ariel's family a black family, and, not to sound like a hotep or anti-divestor or whatever it is, but I don't love the subliminal of a black girl forfeiting her culture, family, her magical mermaid-ness and her voice for a white prince. I just feel like that's a little bit odd...
Tumblr media
I don't get why they couldn't have set it in the West Indies and had a mostly black/Caribbean cast? I feel like that setting would feel right. I guess my hopes were too high though.
+Awkwafina as Scuttle and Daveed Diggs as Sebastian... I mean first of all, I don't love the casting, but second of all I AM AFRAID TO SEE THESE CGI FISH TALKING after the Lion King 2019 bro 💀 And this time, they'll be the minority so I feel like it'll be weirder to see their unemotional eyes.
Tumblr media
AYY AYY AYY THAT RIGHT THERE'S A DINGLEHOPPER
Tumblr media
This ting ominously speaking shaky Patois imagine 💀
Tumblr media
AYO IT'S LIVE ACTION FLOUNDER 💀💀💀💀
And that's not even discussing the actual movie itself, that's just the surface level stuff. I'm with you in thinking that the actual content of the movie will be watered down, unless they plan to change the story a lot but I don't see them doing that too much. They have said that Ariel will have a little more power in this version, so whatever they do with that, and the additional run-time, we can only hope will actually be impactful and inspiring.
Sidebar: I love the original, but Eric always reminds me of that guy from the episode of Bojack where Diane goes to Vietnam and pretends to not speak English... Like, bro, you're literally happy to basically talk to yourself the whole time and never even pass her a piece of paper or something 😬? But yeah, in a live-action version, I feel like it will be harder to suspend the disbelief that Eric never thought to get a piece of paper. Or maybe he will? But then I don't see how Ursula could intervene in that case.
I personally feel like there's a certain wonder and magic to stylised animation that 'live-action' (cause Lion King 2019 was 'live' animals right...? It was an animated remake, just realistic) versions don't really capture. I kind of remember enjoying Jungle Book (2016) when it came out, but I think they attempted to make it less magical and a bit more intimidating/gritty in the remake, which kind of worked (though, it's not something I'd go out of my way to rewatch).
Coral reefs, mermaids and romance though? I don't really see them executing that in a live-action well. Like, maybe it's just me, but the OG was a lot of jokes/light-heartedness (aside from the ending, which I think has potential to be really cool & terrifying in the live-action version), I don't really feel like that charm will translate when you try and bring it into the real world.
ALSO SORRY I rewatched parts of the movie I don't remember as well to make this post, not Ursula calling Ariel "THE LITTLE TRAMP" cause she was about to get kissed 💀💀. That's sort of another area where I feel like it'll be harder to suspend disbelief when they're trying to set it in reality with this medium (?)... if Ariel, looking like Halle Bailey, was trying to kiss Eric, irl that mf wouldn't hesitate, what are we even talking about 🤣🤣?!
But anyways, I'll be going to watch it, both to show some love for black female lead and because I love going to the cinema. The racists can keep their "go woke, go broke" shit, we not going broke, baby.
To finish, I know people find it annoying but I hope they at least put hints of a environmental conservation spin on it, since coral reefs like the one Ariel lives in are dying out :(

Disney's upcoming movie releases
Disney is releasing many movies in cinemas and on the Disney+ streaming service. Family-friendly prequels and live-action remakes of cherished cartoon masterpieces are also included. The business adjusted its release calendar for future movies from its different studios this week. To view every title coming out in 2019, scroll down!
The Little Mermaid will be remade in live-action by Disney and released in theaters the following year. The movie, which stars Halle Bailey (The Color Purple, Grown-ish), tells the tale of Ariel, a mermaid princess who strikes a bargain with a sea witch to transform into a human so she may experience life on land and fall in love.
Jonah Hauer-King plays Prince Eric in the movie, while Melissa McCarthy, who starred in Bridesmaids, plays Ursula. Oscar winner Javier Bardem plays King Triton, Daveed Diggs plays Sebastian in Hamilton, Jacob Tremblay plays Flounder in Room, and Awkwafina, the breakthrough star of Crazy Rich Asians, plays Scuttle.
Based on the adored animation classic, Aladdin will soon be a live-action film. Guy Ritchie is the director, Mena Massoud plays Aladdin, and Naomi Scott plays Jasmine. In this rough retelling of the Arabian Nights, Aladdin encounters Princess Jasmine and discovers a magic lamp (Naomi Scott). He only fully sees his value once she unintentionally releases a giant genie.
Both fresh recordings of the songs and a fantastic score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken are featured in the movie. It also has many DVD extras, such as an entertaining interactive 3D tour inside the Genie's lamp and a virtual trip on a magic carpet.
Disney transports you deep into the African wilderness with The Lion King, their 32nd animated film. It relates to the tale of Simba, a brave little cub who will grow up to rule the jungle. One of the all-time top-grossing animated movies is this one. It has music by Elton John and Hans Zimmer and a cast of believable animal characters.
The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones, and Beyonce Knowles-Carter as the voice actors. The successful animated feature Finding Nemo was followed up with Finding Dory. In a quest to find her family, she reunites everyone's favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres).
Andrew Stanton, who co-wrote and directed the first, is in charge of this. Thomas Newman, a composer for movies including Skyfall, The Help, and WALL-E, also contributed music to the movie. This tale of a fish in and out of water is full of emotional weight and recognizable characters, even though the plot doesn't attempt to rival Finding Nemo in terms of brains. Disney Pixar is a resounding winner.
Captain Jack, a down-on-his-luck character, senses the winds of misfortune blowing his way in Disney's newest swashbuckling adventure forcefully. He must now travel a dangerous sea in search of the fabled Trident of Poseidon, assisted by a clever and attractive astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy. As the swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp makes a comeback. His new castmates include Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, and the villainous Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem.
The first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX, the ninth and final movie in the Skywalker saga, has been made available by Disney. The movie recounts the Resistance's struggle against the Galactic Empire and the malevolent First Order under the command of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, Billy Dee Williams, and Naomi Ackie, a debutant, appear in the movie. J.J. Abrams, who also authored the script, is directing it.
One of the most well-liked attractions in Disney history is The Haunted Mansion. It is a classic and has been around for over 50 years. In 2023, a movie adaptation of the attraction is scheduled to debut, starring LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jared Leto, and Jamie Lee Curtis, among others.
The narrative centers on Gabbie (Dawson), a single mother who moves into a mansion in New Orleans and learns about the building's extensive history of hauntings. She asks a priest, a historian, and tour guides to help exorcise her house.

2022 YouTube and Video SERP Result Changes
When you think of video results on Google in 2022 (and video optimization), you might think of something that looks like this (from a search for “flag football”):
In mid-October, we noticed a drop in this type of video result, and that drop became dramatic by late-October. Did Google remove these video results or was our system broken? As it turns out, neither — video results have split into at least three distinct types (depending on how you count).
Tumblr media
(1) Video packs (simple & complex)
The example above is pretty simple, with the exception of “Key Moments” (which debuted in 2019), but even the familiar video packs can get pretty complex. Here’s one from a search for the artist Gustav Klimt:
Tumblr media
All three of the videos here have Key Moments, including a pre-expanded section for the top video with thumbnails for each of the moments. Some specific SERPs also have minor variations, such as the “Trailers & clips” feature on this search for “Lion King”:
Tumblr media
Video packs are still often 3-packs, but can range from two to four results. While only the header really changes here, it’s likely that Google is using a modified algorithm to surface these trailer results.
(2) Branded video carousels
Some videos are displayed in a carousel format, which seems to be common for branded results within YouTube. Here’s an example for the search “Dave and Busters”:
Tumblr media
While the majority of these “brand” (loosely defined) carousels are from YouTube, there are exceptions, such as this carousel from Disney Video for “Lightning McQueen”:
Tumblr media
Like all carousel-based results, you can scroll horizontally to view more videos. Google’s mobile-first design philosophy has driven more of this format over time, as the combination of vertical and horizontal scrolling is more natural on mobile devices.
(3) Single/thumbnail video results
Prior to breaking out video into separate features, Google typically displayed video results as standard results with a screenshot thumbnail. In the past month, Google seems to have revived this format. Here’s an example for the search “longboarding”:
Tumblr media
If you hover over the thumbnail, you’ll see a preview, like this (edited for size):
Tumblr media
In some cases, we see multiple video results on a single page, and each of them seems to be counted as one of the “10 blue links” that we normally associate with standard organic results from the web.
There’s also a variant on the single-video format that seem specific to YouTube:
Tumblr media
This variant also shows a preview when you hover over it, but it launches a simplified YouTube viewing experience that appears to be new (and will likely evolve over time).
(4) Bonus: Mega-videos
This format has been around for a while and is relatively rare, but certain niches, including hit songs, may return a large-scale video format, such as this one for Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero”:
Tumblr media
A similar format sometimes appears for “how to” queries (and similar questions), such as the one below for “how to roundhouse kick.” Note the text excerpt below the video that Google has extracted from the audio …
Tumblr media
While neither of these formats are new, and they don’t seem to have changed significantly in the past month, they are important variants of Google video results.
(5) Bonus: TikTok results
Finally, Google has started to display a special format for TikTok videos, that typically includes a selection of five videos that preview when you hover over them. Here’s an example from one of my favorite TikTok personalities:
Tumblr media
Typically, these are triggered by searches that include “TikTok” in the query. While it’s not a standard video format and isn’t available outside of TikTok, it’s interesting to note how Google is experimenting with rich video results from other platforms.
Does YouTube still dominate?
Back in 2020, we did a study across 10,000 competitive Google searches that showed YouTube holding a whopping 94% of page-one video results. Has this changed with the recent format shuffling? In a word: no. Across the main three video formats discussed in this post, YouTube still accounts for 94% of results in this data set, with Facebook coming in at a distant second place with 0.8%. This does not count specialized results, such as the TikTo results above.
What does this mean for you?
If you’re tracking video results, and have seen major changes, be aware that they may not have disappeared – they more likely morphed into another format. This is a good time to go look at your SERPs in the wild (on desktop and mobile) and see what kind of video formats your target queries are showing. Google is not only experimenting with new formats, but with new video-specific markup and capabilities (such as extracting text directly from the soundtracks of videos and podcasts). You can expect all of this to continue to evolve into 2023.

Alright, since my Lion King post somehow got to 17k notes overnight?? Yikes?? Just gonna address the most common replies right here, cause I feel like responding but I don’t feel like reblogging a dozen times and dragging this out on the dash endlessly.
“The realism isn’t the problem, Disney not even trying on their animation is.” - Yeah, I’ll agree to that. They probably could have made an okay 3D animated Lion King if they were really putting their best effort into it. I still think the choice limits them and doesn’t look as good as they think it does. But even within that style, the animation could definitely be pushed a hell of a lot more. The characters don’t act like lions or like people, and that’s bad.
“What about Aslan from Narnia?” - He looks good! He’s proof that it can be done. Still don’t think it’s the ideal style for this film. But it can be done.
“The new Jungle Book did it really well!” / “The new Jungle Book sucked too!” - Haven’t seen it. Thought it looked bad. And evidently people can’t agree on this either.
“Detective Pikachu is doing it really well!” - Hell no! That shit is so far in the uncanny valley, it’s terrifying. At least Lion King doesn’t make me shudder every time I see a single frame of it. (Yeah, I’m evidently in the minority there.)
“Guardians of Ga’Hoole did it really well!” - That’s a gorgeous film, and it is more on the realistic side of things. But I don’t think it was attempting realism in the same way the new Lion King is. Lion King is almost trying to fool you into thinking it’s live action, while Ga’Hoole is still clearly an animated kids’ film. Elements of it have been allowed to remain cartoony for the sake of clearer expression. I think this film got the balance between real and cartoony just about perfect.
“Into the Spider-Verse was so good!” - Not relevant! But hell yeah it was!
“Well if you’re familiar with feline body language...” - Dude. The casual observer is not familiar with that. The casual observer just sees a bored lion.
“Disney’s just making the movie to renew the copyrights.” - Lion King isn’t that old, and that’s not how copyright works.
“This is why Disney needs to stop churning out live action reboots.” - Couldn’t agree more.
“I’m still gonna see it in theaters and cry.” - Awesome! I hope you like it!
“Stop shitting on other people’s fun, just let people enjoy the movie.” - I never said you couldn’t enjoy the movie. No one made you reblog this post.
“Just wait for the movie to come out before making a judgment call.” - No.
“We should just film the Broadway production and call it a day!” -

I’m so done with Disney right now and I’m so disappointed. I’ve always loved Disney, but man, I just think they’re getting lazy. All the Disney movies this year and I believe next year too are sequels or reboots. They’re just money hungry, and I’m not into it. I get the vibe that they care more about money than they do creativity and stories, and that’s so disappointing.
