okay so ive been scrolling tumblr for fics since ao3s down and I have a guilty love for Irondad fics despite not really interacting with the marvel fandom at all. (Or any marvel media outside of the spiderman movies, and spiderman comics, cuz im a sucker for peter parker. Blame into the spiderverse.) Guys, what the FUCK is “anti-tony stark” and “pro-tony stark” ???? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE???? HELpppp me/ . Help. Dear god. The stupidest fucking discourse ive ever seen. Jesus.  Like marvel is literally built on being pro-military pro-police pro-big coperation propaganda. That’s just what it is and always will be founded upon. The comics themselves were straight up propaganda. The movies are more subtle but they cannot free themselves of that fact because the Comics Were, Literally, As I cannot stress enough, MADE AS AMERICAN PROPAGANDA!!!! Thats all to say: Tony Stark as a character is propaganda. No he would not reasonably ever fucking be a good person outside of fiction. However it is a movie and it’s meant for you to view him as a good person. It’s not wrong to fucking enjoy him, as long as you realize it’s propaganda. It’s ALSO not wrong to dislike him, as long as you realize it’s still fiction. Am I making sense here? Honestly, I’ve been taken aback at how WEIRD and toxic some of the posts i’ve seen are. “Shut up if your pro-tony I dont want to see irondad fics anymore” and “If I see another fic saying its pro-tony but then the fic criticizes him I’m gonna kill someone” . PLEASE Have some nuance to your thinking PLEASE Im begging you. Dear god.

Guess who’s coming up with a whole other “Bucky wasn’t at fault for what his abusers did to him” and “Tony Stark was in the wrong in Siberia” thesis

Can we talk about how cute it is that Peter thought Tony was that tall for the bunny ears?
And also... does that mean they didn't plan at all to do bunny ears to each other? I mean, if they had planned it, Peter would have checked to see if he was doing them right.
So that means that originally the photo was going to be with Tony's arm around Peter's back, and Peter's arm around Tony's shoulders.
These two will never stop making me cry.

tony's been on both sides of the ultra-specific situation of confronting mortality on the ground, towered over by a friend, and wondering if this is it. if that's the last face they'll ever see.
tony and steve.
peter and tony.
but in the face of possible death, tony and peter were nothing alike.
the discomfort of facing a death caused by someone you're supposed to trust versus the comfort of departing in the presence of someone you love.
the shame of allowing someone you admire to witness your weakness versus the regret of showing them your pain.
the last defiant act of accepting your faith, maintaining eye contact, and daring them to do it versus trying to fight your destiny, looking away, and apologising for not being able to stay.
the millisecond of disappointment when you realise you'll survive versus the millisecond of utter misery when you realise you won't.
tony got up both times, and life went on.

honestly steve deserved to be a little meaner in civil war
“steve you have to sign the accords”
“oh right i totally should sign my rights away to a government who i exposed to have been infiltrated by nazis for DECADES. i’m sure nothing bad will happen if i do that”
“i should let the government dictate my life when all i’ve ever done is save the world by going AGAINST the government. sounds like a great plan”
like t0ny stans love to say he was being horribly selfish and mean in civil war, which he… wasn’t, but i think he should have been

I say this as someone who has no love for mcu tony but endgame was so anti found family that they had tony talk to his emotionally distant absent sperm donor instead of the man (jarvis) that raised him, and who tony missed SO much when he died that he created an entire artificial intelligence based on him so that he could talk to him again

Howard saying that Tony is his “greatest invention” has always rubbed me the wrong way and i think it’s because it implies that everything Tony does is the result of Howard’s actions. Howard managed to keep Tony in the company for long enough that Tony would have the resources to make Howard’s element. Howard controlled who Tony would be in contact with enough that he KNEW Tony would see that video, and get it from SHEILD personnel. Howard knew that Tony would still be running the EXPO, and thus have access to the old board where Howard outlined the element.
By Howard saying Tony is his “Greatest invention”, he so means it litterally. Tony was handcrafted, customized to be the person Howard wanted and needed. Howard uses Tony as nothing more than a time machine, a dependable future entity which will do Howard’s bidding.

May Parker absolutely despises Tony Stark and you can’t convince me otherwise.
If I found out that some womanizing billionaire lied *to my face* and coerced my 14 year old kid into going to GERMANY to fight *actual trained soldiers* because he has superpowers, I would be in jail for murder

So I made the mistake of stumbling onto the NOT STEVE ROGERS FRIENDLY tag today and..
Tumblr media
You have to be a special type of delusional to be this obsessed with a character you don't like!??
Over 2k fics have the tag and are almost entirely Tony Stark-centered fics. I'm assuming these are the "fans" who totally buy into the MCU canon and don't know any other Captain America lore outside of what Feige and Whedon have done. Or, they're the "fans" who refuse to understand the politics behind Steve's character and how he was inherently undermined throughout the entire ten years of the MCU by the directors and writers for most of the films.
Because the arguments in most of these fics for being "not Steve rogers friendly" are really surface level shit like:
1) "Steve refused to sign the Accords and broke up the Avengers" (he was right & he didn't break them up, an overemotional Tony did when he refused to listen to Bucky's side of the story).
2) Steve fought Tony and almost killed him (yeah, like Tony didn't blast Bucky's arm off and shoot his repulsor rays directly at Steve).
3)Steve is homophobic (y'all are just making up reasons to hate this man atp)
4)Steve is racist (Steve hated racists & you'd know that if you read the comics, or you guys are just that deluded that you're making Steve racist & trying to project it as canon and therefore a "reasonable" explanation as to why you hate him)
5)Blaming Steve for Rhodey's accident (WHICH WAS TEAM TONY'S FAULT!)
6)YALL, THEY MADE STEVE THE BAD GUY IN A BROCK RUMLOW/BUCKY FIC! I stg I cannot make this shit up💀 Steve's bad for wanting Bucky to be Bucky again, but somehow Brock's the good guy for wanting Bucky to be the Soldier...
Steve left Bucky for Peggy (we'll get to this soon)
There's a hundred more irrational reasons for the Steve Rogers hate, but let me get to the WORST part.
THERE ARE BUCKY STANS WHO ARE ANTI-STEVE ROGERS.
And I'm sorry, no. I don't accept that you love Bucky Barnes but hate the one person he loves the most in the world.
They argued in a couple fics that "Bucky also went rogue after Siberia but he didn't want to associate with Steve, Nat & the rest of the team- WHO HELPED RESCUE BUCKY & EVENTUALLY EXONERATE HIM- but rather, he went off on his own & eventually Tony finds him, they hash it out and become friends to lovers."
Helppp???? Wdym Bucky isn't gonna stick with the one man he's been keeping diaries about to try and get back his memories? But he'll go to the one guy that re-traumatized him by blowing out his arm again?
Not only that, but Bucky absolutely hates Steve in some of these fics and the reason will be, "he left Bucky to go back to Peggy." Like, you cannot be a serious fan if you're still going with the Endgame canon. For a majority of us, we recognize Endgame as being nothing but terrible writing and mischaracterizations. Why are yall not analyzing and interpreting media critically? The MCU has never been on Steve's side and have always diminished his character in an attempt to make Tony the ultimate hero of the OG 6. Don't yall know the discourse? It's embarrassing atp.
And this is my stance on the entire thing: there's nothing wrong with writing fics about characters you don't necessarily like or aren't interested in. It's OKAY if you don't like Steve Rogers- but you've gotta be rational about him, instead of hateful. Most, if not all of these "anti-steve" fics are written in bad faith. Bad understanding of the character and pure, shameless mischaracterizations which just makes these types of fics fickle and weak- hilarious to read though cos that Brock one had me deadddd😭💀.

YouTube keeps recommending me these videos about Tony Stark being a “father” to Peter and all the scenes of them are just Tony being awful to Peter. Like, him being dismissive of Peter and yelling at him. I’m really am convinced that these people don’t actually watch these clips and just go by their hand canons.

I saw on the original post of these gifts the reblogs and...wow. Not the people saying "Tony reacts like that because that's what Steve tried to tell him before!! #antitonystark"
What actually Steve said: This job... We try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes that doesn't mean everybody, but, if we can't find a way to live with that, Next time... maybe nobody can be saved.
Peter is basically saying he can't live with the knowledge of not helping everyone, Steve is saying that they have to learn to live with it because it's better saving someone than not saving everyone.
While I think Steve is not an asshole and doesn't like when someone dies, I also think that Peter and Steve are not guided by the same morality. Steve accept the fact a lot of people die with his job, Peter and Tony don't. They can't accept the fact they cannot save everyone, they feel responsible for every damage they cause. That's why Tony had that look, because he related to Peter's words. That's literally the point of why he wanted the accords.
Tony blames him self and not just for Ultron. He blamed himself since IM1. When he said "I just finally know what I have to do, and i know in my heart that's it's right" and right before that he mentioned the soldiers who were killed by his weapons, even if it wasn't directly his fault. You can se the parallels between the two of them, they both blames themselves for everything.
Were the accords bad? Yes. Were they needed? Also, Yes. The idea of the accords was good because if I was one of the civilians like Zemo I would want them, and you cannot say otherwise if you were in their place.
So yes, I still think Peter would have been on Team Iron Man anyway because Peter would never turn his back on the civilians (He sacrifices his identity for them, he sacrificed his whole life for them). Even if he didn't like the accords, he would have accepted them and willed to change them. Peter and Tony have the same guilt, the same morale. Tony choose Peter because he saw himself in him, and Peter found comfort in Tony because he was the only one who understood him (Like confirmed in IW novelization).
Tony was the best person to mentor him.
