I know it’s been a while since I ranted about Reylo but I find so funny is how the Reylos killed their own fandom and now they have nothing.

And to be honest, I don’t think I would have hated Reylo so much had the fans had been decent people. Like if you’re going to ship something problematic, just admit that it is and don’t be surprised if some people don’t like it.

But Reylos had to be extra. They had to be racist as hell as well as annoying. They were so annoying that various people who work for Lucasfilm went private. They spammed Tumblr tags constantly! Also, on Twitter they went around, commenting on any and all Star Wars tweets with #SaveBenSolo.

And now they don’t have anything. There is no way in hell Disney is going to make another movie related to the new trilogy and I doubt they’ll make any other media related to it either. All that work at being the worst part of the Star Wars fandom and they nothing.

This is genuinely one of the reasons I HATED Reylo. Finn was set up to be Rey’s romance. And then fucking Rian Johnson changed it. I am still so bitter about that.

This is not directed towards Reylo fanfic writers who are lovely and getting well-deserved publishing deals this is simply a frustration I felt towards the trilogy as a whole.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Finn and Rey were the original enemies to lovers plot in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Both of them were from opposing sides of a major conflict. One an oppressed scavenger, the other a skilled and well trained stormtrooper. And they were brought together by an unforseen set of circumstances where they had to learn to work together and overcome their differences.

Of course reylo came along and messed it all up unfortunately.

Just saying Finn and Rey were very cearly supposed to be the endgame ship in the first movie before TLJ came along and I will be forever upset about it.

Because I like to suffer apparently, I did spend this morning looking through fun tweets and posts like this:

It’s hilarious that folks who made jokes like the ones below, were so comfortable calling this man a predator, because apparently talking about two characters banging is only misogynistic when it doesn’t involve your ship.

For whatever it’s worth calling someone you like or admire a king or queen is pretty typical in AAVE, but sure bust out that armchair psychology. The Black man would only respond positively to praise out of sociopathy or narcissism. Because no celeb on social media ever likes a compliment.

But the most depressing part was this was the attitude I’ve seen over and over again that boils down to the idea that Black actors just needing to shut up, smile, never defend themselves, and know their place:

he's abusive. you could discount literally every other thing on this list, and this point alone would be an immediate no. he physically, mentally and emotionally tortures her. he ties her to a chair and invades her mind. he spends the movies taunting her viciously, picking at her weak points, laughing at her about the death of her father figure HE MURDERED. WHO WAS ALSO HIS FATHER. he's a remorseless sociopath who has genuinely no understanding of why using his power to abuse people is wrong. this is as evident with rey as it is with his fucking fascist galaxy-wide army he uses to try and kill his own mother. jfc

literally at no point do they display any sexual/romantic attraction to her. kylo is creepily obsessed with her. rey is repulsed by him

they have no chemistry. i have literally seen hallmark movie couples with more chemistry

they don't know each other, they don't understand each other, they never at any point develop any affection or trust. enemies to lovers doesn't have to mean healthy relationships, but it does have to mean dislike based on something specific, which then disappears or is overcome by a dramatic change in understanding/circumstances. all that happens is they get tortured by snoke together. rey never changes her opinion of him, they never have ANY kind of relationship, in whatever form

rey goes from a ~25 years of compounding trauma and is living in a constant state of fight or flight. she then gets chucked head first into a literal war. and then she finds out she has some supernatural power, which is even more powerful than other people with that supernatural power, and she's so dangerous that the all-knowledgeable teacher of these mysterious people shuns her. thats fucking beyond terrifying. her entire world has been blown up and shes trapped in what must feel like a horror film, with absolutely no one to ground her. the closest she gets is leia, for a few months on ajan kloss, until she's ripped from her too. REY IS A TRAUMATISED MESS. there is absolutely no way she can make any rational decisions, have any genuine understanding of her feelings. i actually wrote a reasonably light-hearted fic about rey's bond with kylo as a trauma response which you can read here

Reasons why I don’t really ship Reylo anymore.

I know that is how I got followers a few years ago but here are my reasons in a randomized bulleted list: 

The hate from other star wars fans.

Most of the Reylo’s from tumblr left during the porn ban and went to twitter where they really showed off their toxicity. 

I stayed on Reylo twitter for too long and the toxicity ruined it for me. 

I lost interest in Star Wars.

Everyone was into dark fics and I was not. 

Some shippers hate Rey -- Why are you hating the other half of your ship wtf?

Some members of the fandom are ultra mega conservative and brought up their politics all the time. Then they complained about losing followers. Like bro look at yourself for a sec. 

It’s an overglorified Adam Driver fandom.

Got very annoying after TROS. Yeah that movie is bad but not unwatachable. 

Refused to admit characters are dead. 

Didn’t want Rey to move on. Like have you ever met a widow or something? Let her move on. 

The fandom got way too big too fast.

Got too mad about antis. I am unfortunately guilty of this. Sorry to those who saw it. 

Said the torture scene in TFA didn’t have rapey undertones. Yes, it does. I joined the fandom after TLJ and refused to read anything involving that scene and interpreting it as romantic. 

The throne room scene being a metaphor for sex. What? It’s just a cool fight scene calm down. 

I found the Ben Swolo scene funny and I got hate for it.

The same “hot takes” were repeated over and over again. 

Getting outraged over the clearly fake Reylo bathroom story. 

I may think of more later but yeah. I’m going to stay in my own Reylo bubble and ignore everything else. If you followed me after I left the fandom I’m sorry to put this on your dash.
