Technically, the anime version of Inuyasha was incomplete, but thankfully the Final Act came out to complete it (although a few arcs were skipped). But then they tried to add more but it resulted being a cheap badly written crap.

Anime Trending: Top 10 Favorite Anime Moms (2013 - 2023)

Kyoko Honda came in 2nd place. I think that she should have taken the #1 spot, personally, but the fact that she was only a few percentage points away from the #1 spot is still quite impressive, since shoujo series and characters are so heavily overlooked...especially in comparison to shonen (and specifically Shonen Jump and adjacent Jump based shonen series). 

Rin from Yashahime was nominated...ugh. But, thankfully, she didn’t make it into the Top 10, lol. 

Anime Trending is going to do a poll for Father’s Day as well, and I am EXTREMELY curious about how they are going to handle Kazuki and Rei from Buddy Daddies. Will they be viewed as a single father unit that you vote on together? Will they both be on the nomination list and be pitted against each other? Or will only one of them be on the list? 

Should be interesting to see! Of course, they could just not end up on the list at all, but I find that a bit hard to see happening, since the fatherhood aspect is so prevalent to their series.

Rin is the exact same height as 14 yr old Kohaku was next to Sesshomaru when she was supposedly 18 at the time she gave birth and was put in the tree. THIS is supposed to be 18 yr old Rin physically and she's the same size as a 14 yr old.

Miss me with that retconned bs, the initial timeline they set up anyone with common sense knew she couldn't have been any older than 13-14 tops. They only retconned it by saying she was 18 because of the backlash, but the truth is what you see with your eyes not what you hear. It's just damage control, but anyone with eyes can tell this girl ain't 18.

Yashahime is problematic. No, you can't argue otherwise without exposing toxic traits you need to deal with. Here's why:

There's a lot of issues with Yashahime, many of which have been the subject of much debate over the last two years. Typically, the focus is on Sesshoumaru and Rin's relationship. While this pairing/ ship is undoubtedly problematic for reasons that many have already thoroughly explored, I want to talk about one problem in Yashahime (YH) that is not being talked about loudly enough that is not a debatable issue: neglectful parenting.

I will keep this as short as possible because the matter really is simple, and regardless of any justifications YH fans and S*ssr*n shippers may throw at the matter, there is no excuse. Such actions would just be further confirming the blatant willingness to make excuses for issues that exist in morally black and white territory that this side of the fandom unfortunately already champions.

In YH, Sesshoumaru, under the claim of trying to make them stronger, chooses to abandon his daughters. Don't come spewing crap about other adults being there to watch over them as they grew; it doesn't change the fact that Sesshoumaru - who is arguably more capable than any other in seeing to their training and protection - bailed. And continuing in the theme of negligence and abandonment, he allows his daughters to both suffer unnecessarily and die when it is something that he could have prevented.

I don't even know where to start with Rin. As a parent, Sesshoumaru's choices and actions are unconscionable. But then we see Rin express humor/ joy/ or whatever inappropriately placed cheerful crazy was going through her head as she tells Towa and Setsuna that they'll be persecuted just for being their father's daughters. It's mind blowing. And as the linked Tweet below shows (thanks, @mythicamagic!), it is a wildly stark difference from how a parent valued her hanyou child in the OG series. (More written below the picture.)

I'm sure people will speculate on why Rin reacted as such and also try to justify why she did - which is ridiculous and indicative of much deeper personal issues if one cannot call problems out and instead clings biases to the point of advocating for the detriment and harm of others.

But Sesshoumaru and Rin in YH, no matter their reasoning, are shit parents.

It is never the job of a parent to risk their children being harmed, traumatized, hurt (all of which we do see the girls struggling with as the series ends), or killed. It is never justifiable for a parent to allow for an put a child in the position of suffering all of the above. And that's what bothers me most about YH. This is exactly what Sesshoumaru does and Rin does absolutely nothing about (we can talk about how much this parallels women who choose an abusive relationship over their children's well-being another time - note, this is not criticizing women who are truly stuck and need help getting out but cannot.)

Don't come in here trying to throw the "It was another time," "It's fiction," and all that other crap. Being another time period doesn't negate that the actions are still harmful, and being fiction doesn't give fans the excuse to justify toxic and harmful behaviors and choices.

Sesshoumaru and Rin are problematic. But Yashahime is problematic because it takes every toxic and harmful thing they did as parents and tries to spin it as justifiable or right for the circumstances when there truly is no excuse for it.

Inuyasha proved that. His mother was around as long as she could be and didn't abandon him, and whether or not Inuyasha's your favorite, there's zero debate about him being strong and someone people don't want to screw with.

Sesshoumaru had a choice. Rin had a choice too (pity the man who takes newborns out of their mother's arm's and drops them in a forest...if Jaken or anyone else was there to see to their safety, could've been good ol' Sessh). And when Rin is finally out of that tree? Rin 100% had the ability to get into it with Sesshoumaru for his stupid-ass decisions and tell him to get said arse into gear and stop putting their girls through shit. She bears blame for allowing it to continue as well.

No matter how you feel about the show, there is nothing salvageable or justifiable about Sesshoumaru and Rin's parenting choices. It is neglect, and it is abandonment, and child protective services would have a heyday with the both of them.

And if you're still trying to justify this crap? Time to do some soul searching. And I hope to God if you're a parent you don't take the same stance in justifying harm to your own children. Setsuna and Towa are victims of neglectful and poor parenting, and YH tries to tell this story in a way that is family-friendly and celebrated.

Stop making excuses for harm, even if it's fictional.

The only thing left to say is what the fuck is wrong with people that this is even a thing?

Sesshomaru being such a strong advocate for autonomy is so freaking good, it gets me every time. Like, sure, dude may ask a question because he’s curious, but, “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”

And fucking- don’t even get me started with him killing Mukotsu and the whole, “I can survive just fine on my own” scene in later seasons. Plus him stopping every time Rin and Jaken go to speak so he can look at them and actively listen to what they’re saying is so-

I love him so much. And like the only reason he has travel companions is because they decided to travel with him and he just kinda let them.

Oh, Jaken wanted to travel with him? Fine, here’s a staff, this is my name, do what you want. Okay, just revived a child. Do what you want, I guess. No question in those two because Katsuyuki Sumisawa was involved in the first anime version of Sailor Moon and in the same episodes in which the rainbow crystals assembled and Chibiusa took the Sailor Warriors to the doors of time (episodes 34 and 82).

I know there are some similar materials and characters designs in Rumiko Takahashi’s manga series, but that’s from one work to another that she does some reuse and she still comes up with original materials which makes her mangas differ a lot between each other. In the case of a continuation of one story, it’s really pathetic, which is one of the reasons why Trashahime was a cheap what if made by amateurs.

Ok, picture this:

You have never been a pet person. You don't really like animals in general, but dogs are specially unappealing. They are loud, have no sense of personal space, and they drool. Terrible beasts, you have no idea why anybody would choose to have one, let alone pay hundreds, if not thousands of dollars buying stuff for it.

You absolutely loathe when you are invited to a home with a dog, because they won't stop barking, might try to bite, or (even worse!) want to jump on you and lick your face. And they leave hair on your clothes. Terrible.

Anyway, one day you are walking on your neighborhood and a stray approaches you. It's a puppy. It looks so happy to see you, even though you've never seen it before. It wags its tail and runs around your legs, and now it's following you.

After a while trying to get away from the creature you realise it's hurt. Somebody has hurt the dog just because they enjoy hurting those who are weaker, and if though you usually kind of get the sentiment, you also think that hurting a baby is low, even if the baby is a dog. Sure it's a low beast, but come on, it's so innocent and fragile. So innocent, it still trusts you, even though it has been hurt by those like you before. It has no idea what it did to deserve it, and yet it believes fully hatred it won't happen again.

But you know it will. And it may not survive next encounter. Not unless somebody does something about it.

I don't know, maybe you are feeling extra generous that day, but you decide to take it with you. It's only for a little while, until you contact a shelter. It will probably be out of your house by the end of the day, and you will be free of it.

You get it home and realise you probably should give it a bath. Not because you care, but just because otherwise it's going to get your house dirty, and you don't want that. Also it looks skinny AF so you give it something to eat, because you don't want it crying of hunger, that is super annoying.

You end up not calling the shelter. Not because you like the dog, of course not. You just got busy and forgot about it. You will do it tomorrow.

Or the following week.

Or the following month.

Anyway you will totally get rid of it, ok? It's not like you are a dog lover now, it definitely needs to go.

But you know, this one is actually kind of cute. It's so stupid it's funny and endearing. You kind of enjoy watching it play with its toys (what? It's not like it's expensive or anything, you just didn't want it chewing on your stuff, and it's good enrichment anyway. Maybe it will get smarter.)

You find yourself enjoying it's company. It looks so happy and healhty now. It greets you when you get home, and having to walk it is good exercise for you too. You get it a nice leash, gets it microchiped, takes it periodically to the vet because it needs vaccines. You would never get to the point of giving it human clothes, or letting it sleep on your bed, or buying expensive fancy food, but you make sure it's always healthy and well taken care of.

You love that dog. Not like you would love another human, friend or family, but you love it even so. You know it's not going to live as long as you, and you want it to have a good life even if it's short.

Then you have to move because of work or something, and the dog can't come with you. And you feel sad, but you ask your elderly neighbour if she will take it, because she loves dogs, and you know she will take great care of it. She is delighted to take the dog, and even though you are away, she always sends you pics, and when you are in town you pay her a visit for some tea, so you can see the dog again.

...

Ok, so now replace "you" by "Sesshoumaru" and "puppy" by "Rin".

Rin is Sesshoumaru's pet.

I rest my case.

Zutara is not a relationship of a colonizer with a colonized person. Zuko himself is not a colonizer and the people of Katara were never colonized by the Fire Nation.

Sylki is not a true incestuous relationship, especially not with yourself. Sylki is not shown and characterized as truly the same person but as different people with the same role in the universe.

I'm not erasing the canonical sexuality of Charlastor / Radiobelle by shipping them into the context of fanon.

Kylo Ren / Ben Solo is not a Nazi, I also already explained why. Essentially he has no ideology of his own and has been manipulated since his fetus by hearing voices in his head 24/7 again today, and above all the defenders against grooming keep quiet this time ironically, since Kylo Ren / Ben Solo is actually a victim of grooming by Snoke / Palpatine.

The Darkling has not committed any genocide, he is not a pedophile or a groomer either and is even less a killer of childs specifically...

For Sareth basically... Everything that happens in the movie is essentially a representation of the desires / fantasies of teenage Sarah. Jareth is the reflection of her dreams, he literally acts according to her. He is the product of his fantasy. Please note, I'm not saying that what Sarah experiences in the film is literally a dream. No, I'm saying that the film, through its story and especially the character of Sarah, is in a way a representation of the adolescent's desire / dreams, and also a bit of hormones / sexual awakening. Without forgetting the fact of accepting to grow. That's why everything in the maze is in Sarah's room. That's why Jareth's universe is in this book, and also why the way to defeat Jareth there is. This is why Jareth is “in love” with Sarah. That's why he looks like a walking sexual fantasy with his tights on. Why there is a snake, a cane. Why does everyone at the ball wear masks with horns and long noses (= just falic / sexual symbols) Brief. There's nothing wrong with shipping Jareth with Sarah, since he's literally her personal fantasy and he's acting on that. (in the sense that he takes the role she gives him in the story)

Sessrin / Sesshrin is also not a relationship based on pedophilia. Sesshomaru clearly didn't feel anything romantic or sexual about Rin when she was a child. As for the accusations of grooming, they are unfounded because there is no proof. The fact that Rin gave birth to twins at 18 is not proof of this. Inuyasha takes place in the feudal era where a girl under 18 is seen as an adult. Essentially, Sesshomaru simply fell in love with Rin as she grew up. And he came to see her from time to time from the moment he left it with Kaede as a child. He was not responsible for her education. That was Kaede. He wasn't her father figure either, that was Jaken.

And Hades and Persephone must be read in the context of the time when the myth was written, otherwise you lose its true meaning. I have already reblogged excellent analyzes on the subject, I invite you to go and see them. Hades, essentially, is not the true villain in this myth.

Rin needed to talk about her life and her trauma with someone and she did it with Kohaku.

Then she asked him if it doesn't bother him that she talks too much and he replied that it's okay.

So Rin likes to talk to Kohaku and Kohaku likes to listen to Rin.

He's perhaps the only one with whom she opened up so much, there was definitely chemistry between them.

This dialogue made me ship them, I still don't understand how they could have preferred to ship Rin with an adult, who was her guardian, when Kohaku was right there.

Yashahime had writers that not only made Sesshomaru the Actual Worst, they went out of their way to defend, justify and worship him in every stupid thing he did, yet they still couldn’t write his kids into liking him and I think that’s beautiful.
