'My problem is less so with the fact that PB writes toxic LIs like in SR, WB, TCH, etc. It's generally not my cup of tea, but my issue is more with the fact that there is no warning at the start for these type of LIs. Some people fantasize about that type of stuff in fiction and that doesn't mean they think it's ok IRL, but there are also players who A) may be impressionable and B) may be triggered by these sort of behaviors. It's the reason AO3 has tags, and PB should be doing the same.'

Trying to mine Wolf Bride for diamonds and it's so bad it hurts 😩 I knew it wasn't my 'thing' going in, but using romcom logic and suspension of disbelief I'm willing to buy into a lot of pretty wild pretenses, and can get thru them as long as they're entertaining enough, but WHAT IS THIS BEGINNING??

Like, accepting as a given the elements that make a Wolf Bride type story appealing to ppl who's thing this IS, the way this whole thing shook out because the LI was just ~too eager~ to have her was WHACK. There was no romantic or mystical reason for it, he was just an asshole, and no matter how hard they try to sell this as a cute misunderstanding this was all really violent and invasive. And again, it wasn't written in a way to tantalize ppl that might be into this set up, it was just a lazy hand wave.

The main thing to ask yourself in romance is why they can't be together NOW, or why this complication can't be resolved NOW, and if the answer is as easy as having a quick chat before a violent kidnapping and soul magic without your consent, you might need to beef up ur plot!!

Also I know PB hates women for some reason but the way the whole story is like IT'S YOUR MOM'S FAULT YOU DIDN'T EXPECT US TO DISREGARD YOUR PERSONHOOD BC SHE DIDN'T RAISE YOU TO MAKE BABIES WITH UR SOULMATE is nasty!!!

The day Pixelberry released Choices was the day I downloaded it. So that’s to say I was there at the very beginning. And they almost drove me away about nine months ago. I got sick of the sex books and the toxic LIs and I missed Choices community being a community. I still think VIP screwed that up, but… I never got up the nerve to delete the app. Up until The Nanny Affair 2 (actually now that I’m thinking about it Wolf Bride 🤮 was probably the nail in the coffin, I got board with TNA2 but WB was utterly disgusting) I had read every single book they had. Now I’m back. The Princess Swap brought me back.

Does it have a lot of issues like many of the other new books? Yes. But it’s cheesy and fun and cute! It reminds me of The Royal Romance and Foreign Affairs and A Very Scandalous Engagement, some of my favorite books on the app! It’s a cheesy royalty and I love it. I’m going to try to get back into Choices because I really did enjoy this fandom and I miss it.

However, as an asexual the sexy books are SO HARD because I do not understand the MCs motivations at all and I get so bored. So we’ll see if I actually catch up on the books or not.

Like what the hell are they even talking about anymore. Hopefully Sansa antis wake up one day and realise that nobody but them, will think that a 13 year old willingly married into the family that killed hers. If northern lords believed that women should totally attach themselves to their captors they wouldn't be marching against the Bolton's and trying to save "Arya". None of them are talking how "Arya" probably willingly married Ramsey. They wouldn't hold any judgment for Ramsey forcefully marrying lady Hornwood.

-And do you imagine the Hornwood men have forgotten the Bastard's last marriage, and how his lady wife was left to starve, chewing her own fingers? What do you think passes through their heads when they hear the new bride weeping?

Remember how they think that 15 year old Lyanna willingly ran away with 23 year old Rhegar. Oh wait they don't. But no they definitely will think that 13 year old Sansa willingly married to 26 year old Tyrion+ all the bad things they believe about him.

One thing that I always saw from Dany antis, but never really wrote a proper post to refute, is the claim that Quentyn is not the Sun's son, it's Young Griff, and that Young Griff is not the mummer's dragon, it's Jon. So I want to make a post about this.

The argument usually goes: "Quentyn can't be the Sun's son because he is the Sun, not the Sun's son. The Sun's son must be Young Griff". But by this logic, Dany can't be called "the dragon's daughter" because she's the dragon, not the dragon's daughter. And yet, she is called the dragon's daughter and daughter of dragons. At some point people have to recognize that GRRM was just trying to be poetic. Quentyn is pretty much confirmed to be the Sun's son: he tried to steal Dany's dragon, and if that wasn't enough, his death creates a political problem for Dany in her negotiations with Dorne. So he was one of the people that Quaithe warned her she shouldn't trust.

Another argument is that "Aegon is not the mummer's dragon, he really is Elia's son, so Jon is the mummer's dragon, because Jon was hidden and playing a false role just like a mummer". And like… no. First of all, because there's a lot of evidence that Aegon is not the real Aegon, and that he could actually be Illyrio's son:

First, why wouldn’t Illyrio tell Dany and Viserys about him, or at least tell Doran and his family?

If Elia made a deal to save Aegon, why didn’t she try to save Rhaenys as well?

Why didn’t Elia tell anyone about this supposed plan? She could have written a letter to her family and Varys could have delivered it to them so that they would know Aegon survived.

Why would the Golden Company (that was always loyal to the Blackfyres) help a Targaryen prince? Especially when we consider that Viserys asked for the Golden Company’s help and was rejected, so it makes no sense for them to suddenly want to help some other Targaryen;

Illyrio even says something that hints very heavily at Aegon being a Blackfyre, when Tyrion asks him why would the Golden Company help a Targaryen: "Black or red, a dragon is still a dragon."

Illyrio’s wife had golden and silver hair;

Illyrio’s house has children’s clothes but there seems to be no sign of children in his house;

Young Griff is traveling with a septa that has stretch marks from a pregnancy;

Illyrio even says: “I told you, my little friend, not all that a man does is done for gain. Believe as you wish, but even fat old fools like me have friends, and debts of affection to repay.”

Illyrio also sends Young Griff gifts and sounds "oddly sad" when talking about him.

Of course, nothing is set in stone until GRRM writes the next books and reveals the truth, but people have to stop acting like there's no basis for the Aegon Blackfyre theory, because there is basis.

And Jon as the mummer's dragon makes no sense. If Jon was going to be referred to as playing a false role (and therefore being a "mummer's something"), he would be a mummer's wolf, not a mummer's dragon, because no one knows Jon is a "dragon", everybody thinks he is a wolf. He is posing as a wolf, as a Stark bastard. Quaithe and the Undying didn't warn Dany against a mummer's wolf, but against a mummer's dragon. They didn't warn her against someone being paraded as a wolf but who is not a real wolf, they warned her against someone being paraded as a dragon but who is not a real dragon (which can only be Young Griff, because there's no other character being paraded as a dragon in the story).

Finally, all of Dany's other prophecies seem to refer to different people. Daughter of Death refers to Viserys, Rhaego (the tall lord with copper skin and silver hair) and Rhaegar (the dying prince with rubies flowing from his chest); Bride of Fire refers to Drogo, probably Hizdahr (the corpse on the ship), and Jon (blue flower in a wall of ice); Slayer of lies seem to refer to Stannis (blue-eyed king with no shadow), Aegon (mummer's dragon) and probably Euron (stone beast breathing shadow fire from a smoking tower). Jon is already in another prophecy, the bride of fire prophecy. It would break the pattern GRRM wrote if he also was the cloth dragon (I'm not saying that it's impossible for GRRM to decide to break the pattern in these prophecies, just that this pattern is another clue that Jon likely won't appear twice and Aegon is the mummer's dragon).

Once again thinking about how Jon and Daenerys are meant to be, in every sense of the word.

At their core, they are both characters who desire home — a place where they belong, where they are loved and love back. A place where they can have a family and do not feel lonely anymore.

Their journeys, extensively paralleled on the books, speak of heroism. They try to make their world better. It is interesting, because making the world better requires facing directly the legacy of their forebears. Daenerys starts an anti-slavery campaign with ripples throughout the whole continent of Essos; her dragons mean hope and freedom, while the Valyrians of old used their power to build an empire based on slavery. Jon spends time among the Free Folk and learns a lot with them; he sees them as people that also deserved to be protected against the threat of the Others, while his Stark ancestors have fought the Free Folk for thousands of years and were only to happy to have they beyond the Wall.

A queen belongs to her people; you will take no pleasure in your command. They face the hardships of ruling, and in their storylines, George R. R. Martin is exploring what takes to be a good leader. He is exploring his famous question about Aragorn's tax policy: you are a ruler? Good. What do you do for your people, especially in times of need? When they meet, they will realize they are not alone; that someone finally understands the burden and how lonely and hard it is to rule. They will bond over sharing their experiences and over making plans for the future.

No one in-universe ever expected a girl and a bastard boy to have the destiny of their world upon their shoulders. Yet, here they are. Both of they are linked to propechies and visions about fighting the Others. Jon has since the first book, AGoT, known about the threat and faced it directly: his power as a talented warg, inputs, know-how and command will be essential to defeat the Others. Daenerys has three dragons with her, perhaps the biggest asset the living will have in the War for the Dawn.

In this sense, we can not only their political union makes sense, but their magical one too. They will both be heads of the dragon, the fire against the ice of the Others. They will need each other to win this fight.

For that, their meeting will be one of equals. A queen and a king. Two young, but very mature and experienced people. They have loved, fought, risen to power, been betrayed before... all kinds of things, a whole lifetime on the table, despite of their young ages. As Melisandre [Jon VI, ADwD] says: "The Lord of Light in his wisdom made us male and female, two parts of a greater whole. In our joining there is power. Power to make life. Power to make light. Power to cast shadows."

The last scions of House Targaryen meeting to work together. A kind of irony of the destiny, for in the Dance, it was argued a woman (Rhaenyra) could not rule,“bastards” “soiled” the royal lineage and should not be included in the line to inherit (Rhaenyra's sons). Yet that's all that remains of the Targaryens now: a girl and a boy with a bastard's name. And they will unite to face the threat said to have been foreseen by Aegon in a prophecy.

I dare say their bond and love already exist, even if they are yet to meet. That's why Dany dreams about a shadow lover, sees a blue flower in a wall in her bride of fire prophecy. That's why Dany hears a wolf howl after Jon dies, and feels sad and lonely. For Jon, a dragon or three might warm things up. In his first ADwD chapter, the moon is running with him, whispering to him, accompanying him. The moon kisses him.

Last but not least, Alan Taylor's words:

[Martin] just sort of mentioned in passing, 'Oh well it's all about Dany and Jon Snow,'" Taylor said. "And at the time I thought, 'Really? I thought it was about Sean Bean and Robb Stark?'"

"But [Martin] knew from the very beginning where he was driving and now we're starting to see that come to fruition," Taylor said. "We know that it's circling tighter and tighter on Dany and Jon and their partnership is starting to form, you know, 'fire and ice.'"

What GRRM mentioned to Alan Taylor still rings true for the books, for in ADWD, we can see many characters moving either Dany's or Jon's way. Their meeting will wrap up that and symbolise the beginning of their story together.

'For real though, how is Wolf Bride a top 10 book?? I get that "steamy" books have a large reader base, but leaving aside the poor writing quality of the book, the plot is downright awful. The Little Sea Fae: A classic children’s play from Mercen about a young sea fae girl who makes a deal with the Moon to be allowed to pass as human during the night. She is eventually ostracized by fellow fae but is mercifully given shelter by the humans, living with them happily ever after. Blatant anti-fae propaganda.

The Midnight Bride: A Capribourgan play about the mythos of the Midnight Mother, a once-popular southern religious figure. It follows the eponymous bride from across one night as she is offered as a sacrifice in marriage to an ancient being beyond the stars, comes to love them, and claims their power when they are slain by the Sun.

The Dynasty of Beasts: A Virstraean tale about a young wolf learning about the world from other animals and trying to reclaim her family’s territory after her pack is nearly wiped out by bears. Some say it’s derivative of non-animal-based versions of the same story, but honestly, the wolf costumes play better.

The Doppeler Effect: A Duosoudan play about a man who just keeps running into different iterations of himself no matter how far he goes to attempt to escape them. It’s considered very modern, very surreal, and very up for interpretation on what its meaning is, or if, in fact, there is any at all.

The Road and the Not Taken: An adaptation of the Krinosi folktale about two brothers on diverging paths - the twists and turns of fortune of one who stayed to tend the family farm and of the other who left home.
