Historically, the fact that zombies originated in Haiti, as an expression of the terror felt by enslaved people towards the idea that they would remain enslaved even after death, makes the fact that nowadays, zombie narratives have become synonymous with "white dude (usually cop or adyancent) fantasy where you get to unleash your violent desires on a mass of homogenous dangerous people who are coming for your kid and wife next" makes it sooooooooooo much worse. Zombies have always been political
ok I looked this up bc I don’t know very much about it and this NPR article has a good excerpt:
Suicide was the slave's only way to take control over his or her own body ... And yet, the fear of becoming a zombie might stop them from doing so ... This final rest — in green, leafy, heavenly Africa, with no sugarcane to cut and no master to appease or serve — is unavailable to the zombie. To become a zombie was the slave's worst nightmare: to be dead and still a slave, an eternal field hand.
which I think reinforces the reading of zombies in american pop culture as these racialised non-persons, although the perspective on them has shifted drastically

A guide on how to be a radfem AND an actual leftist!
So say you see this comic shared by a radfem online:
Tumblr media
OK, so straight off the bat we have a kind of... suspicious portrayal of a trans person. In my experience, if a comic has this kind of overly polished art style, well, it's probably not made by a radfem, and it's probably made by a man. In fact, the comic style this reminds me of the most is stonetoss, a barely covert neo-nazi, whose comics I have seen, once again, shared on radblr!!
Tumblr media
(fyi this isn't the exact comic bc I couldn't find the one i saw on radblr a while ago, but you get the idea)
If you're an actual committed leftist, you probably don't want to be platforming outright neo-nazis.
And unfortunately for us feminists, a lot of neo-nazis are also anti-trans. So if you're about to share something from outside the radfem bubble, you just might wanna check first to see if it's thinly veiled hate speech that this guy MrPumpkinFace (whose name is in the comic, just to make searching easy for you!!) supports and -
oh - oh god -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, doesn't take much of a search to find out exactly what kind of politics this guy supports. I repeat:
It doesn't take much of a search to find out exactly what kind of politics this guy supports.
Also, here's a bonus stonetoss comic for ya:
Tumblr media
So that's your definitive guide for not being a
complete fucking moron
In the name of 'owning the transes'!!
All you have to do is use that famous radfem pattern recognition and the equally famous radfem common sense and the equally famous radfem ability to check sources - all of which goes out the window when it comes to this subject apparently!!!
(Sorry, did I say this was a guide on how to be a 'leftist'? Sorry, I mean this was a guide on how to do the BARE. FUCKING. MINIMUM.)
Please, please, please don't leave it to random idiots like me to have to keep doing basic google searches for you all, and good fucking luck getting your average mainstream leftist to have any sympathy for you when you're uncritically sharing literal nazi comics on your supposedly feminist platform!!!

The idea that Black people are predisposed to hating queer people is Anti-Black rascism. The people most hurt by these assertions are not only Black people but queer Black people as well. You are not saving queer people by throwing Black people under the bus, and you'll never save queers by doing that, so just stop.

CW: Anti-blackness, Racism.
I usually don't make posts of this nature, but something had to be addressed since it involves my racial identity as a black women. This involves my experience in the server with one individual.
This is a post to share my experience concerning an individual who displayed direct and indirect racial prejudice towards me in the @bebopcrew server. First and foremost, I must say that the Bebop crew is an amazing server and, although I am particularly shy as it can take me awhile to feel comfortable enough to socialize in groups, the members there made me feel welcomed and supported me, as well as many writers/artists alike.
But one member in particular, @/Drasino, stood out to me that treated me differently than the rest. I thought I could put the situation behind me and let it rest, but due to seeing them on my dash often continuously calls back to mind what occurred.
This happened when I had begun to try to come out of my shell, attempting to socialize and engage in conversations in certain channels. I left a compliment on some insight they shared in a channel, but I never got a response that showed he acknowledged me. I also tried to engage in them again, but he didn't acknowledge me and proceeded to ignore me. Interestingly, he would engage with other people in the server and their stuff, but nope, not me.
Ironically, a day or so later right after, Drasino posted an image where he outwardly mocked the Afrikaan language. That was the first red flag for me. I asked one of the admins about what they posted, what his intention and motives could be about the crude image. The admin got right on it and confronted Drasino about it, to which he acted oblivious and played innocent. But after that incident, the admin updated the rules to emphasize how racist and other toxic content, comments, or memes are not allowed.
Afterward, there wasn't no more images of that sort again. However, he proceeded to deliberately ignore me and my stuff while engaging and initiating conversations with other people. I also tried to involve a few people in a channel where he and other people were talking, which he easily could've engaged with me as well, but instead, he proceeded to switch over to another channel to try initiate a totally other conversation, again, deliberately and willingly trying to exclude me from his presence. There was also a comment a admin told me where Drasino made a joke about monkeys as well.
All of these things began to pile up. Even though he acted oblivious about the picture he posted, you have to remember, Drasino, ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. THE WAY YOU TREAT OTHERS IS ENOUGH TO KNOW THE TYPE OF PERSON YOU ARE. I am not stupid; I knew exactly what you were doing, and your actions towards me further proved my case. I do my utmost best to extend kindness towards others, try to make others feel welcomed, and I don't like it when others feel left out. I extended kindness towards and courtesy towards him in the same manner as I try for anyone else. But he didn't for me; the fact I'm the only black person ( plus with the only black oc) in the server who he outwardly and deliberately chose to not give me the same courtesy and respect as he gave other people stuck out like a sore thumb. Plus, that image was all I needed to know because he knew exactly what he was doing and proceeded to downright ignore me.
This type of behavior something I wouldn't expect to experience in this type of community, but here we are. Shinichro Watanabe created a show with a diverse cast of characters; Cowboy Bebop is abundant with diversity of different languages, cultures, ethnicities, and nationalities-it is an element I love about the show. Anyone who is a fan should understand and appreciate the message and vision that Watanabe delivered for us. If Watanabe appreciates and respect others, no matter their race, culture, or language, a fan of his work should share that same openness. With that being said, showing racial prejudice, anti-blackness, xenophobia, or any other type of prejudice towards another person is completely unacceptable here.
I decided to make this post to make others aware of my experience with this individual, and for others who look like me to be wary of their company, so they don't also have to go through the same thing I experienced.

Ok some of y’all need to fucking cool it right now. Calling the tma blogs getting deactivated martyrs?? Yeah it fucking sucks they got deleted, amd it’s absolutely a proud and clear display of transmisogyny. But during the Palestine occupation and genocide?? Calling a blog getting deleted a martyr?? And not to fucking mention the black blogs this has REPEATEDLY happened to before already. None of y’all did this for them.
Amd now I even saw someone fucking comparing tma ppl getting banned bc of gross transmisogyny in this sites staff to George Floyd.
HUH????
And while y’all still think that the BLM and all related tags being suppressed wasn’t real or that black ppl were overreacting. While y’all still think that the fucking “russian psyop bots” were a real thing. Shut the ever loving fuck up.
Y’all just can’t care about anything unless you can use it to be antiblack can you. Predgestrogen and all the other transfem blogs that got banned were wrongfully terminated, bc of clear amd gross transmisogyny. But this has absolutely happened before, to black blogs, and when they talked abt it, y’all flew to the defense of staff. And the transmisogyny was present then too! MANY of the black blogs getting terminated were tma. But y’all have just now found it in you to care? The ceo even made a post back then. Thousands of you kissed his ass.
Fucking DO BETTER.

this is such a frustrating post because words do actually have power. It’s not some “metaphysical” or magical harm that people are fabricating, the language you use to describe reality (or, in this example, utter the word being used to describe reality) has an impact, even if you’re not yelling that word at a random person on the street. Like I feel insane having to say that. These words aren’t “labelled” slurs after the fact of their usage, they aren’t granted “cursed status” by some sjw council, that’s the origin of those words and that is their historical trajectory. acting otherwise quickly gets you into conspiratorial territory. faggot or tranny has no cultural meaning outside of being violent to queer people, and if you were able to stop everyone from using them as slurs they would functionally stop existing as words.
also hilarious to see a back-peddle of “oh well I won’t say the N word” why not? Because you understand that using it in any context as a non-black (especially if you’re white) person, regardless of context or circumstance, is inherently violent? Because you understand that words have the weight of history behind them and sometimes those histories are incredibly vile? You understand that words can be violent in and of themselves? Do you think people are inventing harm when they avoid saying that particular slur? I understand that the N word has an especially violent history that isn’t on the same level of faggot or tranny, but if you take the stance that saying slurs in “a critical context” is actually okay, you are still drawing a line where you believe it’s never okay to say specific words (a position I agree with), which means we’re now just debating the level of violence a word has to accrue before it’s determined to be unusable in any context - ie, the position this post is critiquing.
It’s just absolutely fucking insane to see people say that there’s a taboo around saying slurs and that it’s some counter-cultural act to insist that you won’t censor yourself. what planet do you live on

One of Hello Future Me's videos on revolution brought up an event from the Philippines back in the 80s: the dictator sent a battalion to crush a supposed revolt, only for the soldiers to be met with nuns and children offering food and water. The majority of the army defected as a result
I'm going to use rwby to try hammering this abstract concept into a coherent thought, but this incident got me thinking about how nonviolent protest is theater
If a similar event were to occur in rwby, for it to be successful, the protestors would have to be the cutesy faunus types: rabbits, cats, dogs, and the like because they're non-threatening. Attacking a sweet cat faunus would be akin to attacking a child or nun, paragons of innocence and virtue respectively. Only a monster could cut them down, and no one wants to be seen as a monster
A scorpion faunus, though? Their mere existence is a threat. That tail is dangerous, a weapon available at all times. Bull faunus have horns they can use to gouge out eyes and organs. Claim they attacked and most people would agree that killing them in self-defense is justified
Because nonviolent resistance relies on public perception, people who could possibly taint the image of the movement will get left in the dark no matter how important they are. Bayard Rustin was the one who taught Dr King about civil disobedience and was an organizer for many major events, but he opted to ride to events in the trunk of people's cars so his status as an openly gay man wouldn't harm the movement's image
There would be little wonder why the White Fang would be more popular with the "scarier" faunus. Public perception is already against them, so it's not going to change much for them if they join a violent organization, but this in turn will be seen as justification for discrimination against these types of faunus. A hellish self-perpetuating cycle
These faunus would also be far more likely to experience violence at a much younger age, akin to how black children are treated as adults even if they're literally six years old
The strategy behind nonviolent protest like the ones Dr King did is to show the world the mistreatment of the innocent, but when your existence is deemed a threat, there's little hope that you'll ever get enough support to change the system. This is why bigots constantly spew the "queer groomer" and black crime "statistics": by portraying someone's freedom as a danger to the innocent, any level of violence is justifiable defense. The police aren't attacking queers, black, and brown folk discriminately, they're attacking dangerous criminals, so it's okay!!1!
Theater can't save those already condemned and to try is wasted effort
#rwde#antiblackness tw#<- in the link#Claudette Colvin refused to give up her seat a whole 9 months before Rosa Parks yet wasnt the face of the movement#good choice considering she was only 15 and shoving a teen into the racist public eye is Not Good but her pregnancy was also a major factor#idk hopefully i got the point across#somewhat related is the trend of the privileged being the biggest advocates for peaceful protest#while the ones who've endured violence - both economically and physically - are the ones who call upon violence#which almost always means violent *self defense*#the few occasions ive read where there were actual attacks its been targeted like the BLA ambushing cops#cant say i blame them considering the mcfucking everything the cops had going on#the bpp was basically destroyed by the police and fbi at this point and that was probs a major factor in their decision#and targeted violence was exactly what the white fang was doing before cinder showed up and ruined everything#literally nothing the wf does in the show is actually for faunus liberation bc its all cinder/salems orders!!#and no one is allowed to have a brain or personality or anything so no one questions why theyre suddenly switching targets#gr8 discussion abt activism here shawluna. love that you reduced the anti racism movement to mercenaries to avoid saying anything at all#ffs they even fucked up weiss's side of the convo! obvs the fumbling of blakes ball is much worse but come the fuck on#'the wf may have assassinated company board members and family friends but were teammates now so who cares!! team rwby go!!'#fucking barf

I hate that anti-intellectualism has just been watered down into "people that like fanfic and Marvel" because there are grown adults who will word for word compare you to Mussolini if you tell them not to misgender trans people or say that white people can't say the n slur because "fascism is controlling language and telling people they can't say certain words".

honestly weirdos on tumblr just cannot have a disagreement even absolutely minute and inconsequential w a black girl without going nuts w this bizarre disproportional anger and perverse desire to humiliate or degrade her and thats pretty fucked up!! its pretty fucked up how any degree of disagreement a black woman on here expresses on any topic immediately merits sexually charged or dehumanizing insults or just a completely unjustifiable desire for.. retaliation?? no real harm has been done to these people in these interactions but its like if a black woman dares to talk back or speak up when they dont like it she deserves to be put in her place. and yet its black women being painted as aggressive and hysterical..

I’m not sure how to deal with my own anti-Blackness, the people who have been most interpersonally ableist and transphobic to me have been Black cishet people, and they’ve used their Blackness to diminish the importance of ableism and transphobia as not “real problems”. I think I’ve internalized some of that
I'll be honest, I think I have truly grown from intentionally seeking out Black activists and listening to their perspectives when they talk about it - and not to make any comments or try to correct, you know? Just to listen, to see exactly where they are coming from. I've found that there are so many Black people who will talk about Blackness and how it intersects with things like disability, queerness and transness, and all of that - hell, one of my favourite Black content creators is Kat Blaque who has made a lot of content about being a Black trans woman.
I've also come to realize... like, even if I meet a transphobic Black person, it doesn't negate the need for them to not be persecuted or targeted in any way for their Blackness. I don't think bigotry is right coming from anybody, sure, but I also don't think we should be subjugating Black people for bigotries (or assumed bigotries) through Anti-Blackness.
Black people never have been and never will be a monolith, and the idea they are looks like "all Black people mistreat [group]," so I encourage people to always watch out for statements worded like that or statements that defend Anti-Blackness because "well, that's just how it is".
I ultimately don't think I am the sole person to go to for this sort of thing, but also, I don't want the attitude of "Black people are all the same and they'll always be the same" to gain traction, because it doesn't solve the perceived issue.
