Agustín: If you had to separate your dog from 49 other identical dogs that were all equally excited to see you, how would you determine which dog was yours?

Encantober 2023 Day 24: Memory
One thing the Madrigals loved to do was look at old photo albums and reminisce on the old memories they had together. Sometimes, they would do so alone, other times, they would do it as a family. Most of the time, it would start with a family member looking at a picture on their fireplace and reminiscing on that memory, which would turn into looking back on even more pictures from their childhoods.
Mirabel, Camilo, and Antonio were running in Casita’s courtyard when Mirabel noticed a picture on the mantle of her and Camilo on their first day of kindergarten. Camilo and Antonio stopped running to see what Mirabel was looking at. Mirabel then held up Antonio so he could see the picture of his big brother and cousin.
“I know it’s kind of odd that I stopped to see this, but did Mama or Tia Pepa find that and put it on the mantle recently? Because I don’t remember it being there before.”
“Come to think of it, neither do I,” Camilo replied.
“I do remember seeing it in an album when Mama and Tia Pepa were showing us our old school pictures the day before we started high school.”
“So do I. They told us how excited they were for us to start kindergarten together because Mama had to send me to another school on the other side of the Encanto when I turned four because the teachers couldn’t handle me.”
“The teachers still can’t handle you, primo.”
“True, but at least now it’s just harmless pranks and not punching other kids in the face over a toy.”
The cousins laughed and Antonio tried to get on his tippy-toes to look at the picture. Mirabel noticed and carried him so he could see it. The picture had Camilo and Mirabel when they were five years old, in front of Casita with their arms around each other, smiling, and wearing their first day of school outfits.
“Do you have any other pictures from when you were my age?” Antonio asked.
“We have so many! We’ll show you right now!” Mirabel replied.
The three of them went into the living room to find a photo album that anyone in the family could access if they wanted to. They went to the couch when Mirabel found the album and opened it to try and find more pictures of Camilo and her from when they were Antonio’s age. They found one of the two of them in front of Casita on their Pre-K graduation weekend, wearing their caps and holding their diplomas.
“You’ll also get a homemade cap and diploma when you graduate from Pre-K,” Mirabel explained to her cousin.
“We made our hats already, but I can’t wait to get the diploma.”
“Hey, Mira, remember when we were that age when we were going to the park one weekend with our mamis, and we went to get ice cream together and mama almost beat up another parent over getting the last Tres Leches ice cream for me?” Camilo reminisced.
“I remember that! Tia Pepa would beat anyone up for an ice cream.”
The cousins laughed before they turned the page to find a picture of Mirabel when she was three years old, on her first day after getting her glasses. She was smiling big and bright, excited to finally see after spending several months not being able to read the letters in front of her in class.
“If only that little girl only knew what was going to come when she got to elementary school,” Mirabel pointed out.
“What do you mean?” Antonio asked.
“Once I got to elementary school, many kids called me ‘Four Eyes’ because of my glasses. While I was happy I was able to see the board and read what was in front of me, other kids still thought I looked funny and still made fun of me. That was when mi papi told me about when he was in school and how he was called ‘Four Eyes’ at that time. When he met mami, she was the one to let him feel more confident in wearing his glasses.”
“Did that help you too, Mirabel?”
“It did; when papi told me about what happened to him, mami also assured me that I look perfect with my glasses, and that I shouldn’t care what any of the other kids said about me. She did mention how much better I was doing in school since then.”
Antonio hugged Mirabel as Camilo turned the page of the photo album. “Antonio! I found a picture with you in it!” he exclaimed.
Antonio leaned over to his big brother to see a picture of him when he was a newborn baby, sleeping in his baby bouncer with Isabela, Dolores, Luisa, Camilo, and Mirabel circling around him. Camilo and Mirabel were sitting on the floor on each side of the bouncer, with Isabela and Dolores kneeling on each side, and Luisa on top with her hands and arms on the bouncer.
“We were so excited when you arrived, Tonito, since I was dying to become a big brother and Mirabel wanted either mama or tia Juli to have another baby, when you were born, we wanted to have a picture with all six of us. Let me tell you, Antonio, once you became a part of our family, everyone was giving you all the attention possible,” Camilo explained.
“You were still a little bit jealous since it was sinking in that you were demoted to middle child,” Mirabel replied.
“But once Dolores handed you to me for the first time, you opened your eyes and smiled at me. My heart melted at that moment and I realized that being a big brother was going to be the most rewarding thing ever.”
Antonio hugged Camilo and Mirabel joined the hug. “Milo, I’m always happy that you’re my big brother, and I’m happy that you’re my cousin, Mirabel. You’re both so sweet and funny and I tell you both everything that’s happened to me.”
Camilo and Mirabel hugged Antonio again and they continued looking through the photo album and laughing at all the fun memories they had together as a family in the pictures until it was time for dinner.

Love reading your opinions on the characters and movie, it's refreshing to not see that repetitive hate and you make some good points
The discussions and others adding to that is also interesting
aww thank u anon! I just think these characters are so 3 dimensional it’s impossible to boil them down to one thing! isabela is the prissy oldest sister until you realize actually she’s not! luisa is the strong confident one until you realize no she’s not! These characters are so complex I just want to appreciate all of them!
I also love partaking in discussions and find your guys perspective interesting! It’s fun to dissect these characters and this story!

Lazy Day
Mirabel scratches the back of her head as she walks along the garden behind Casita. The day has been pretty lack luster, no chores to do, no errands to run. She helped her mama clean the kitchen, but that only lasted ten minutes. Now she is simply wandering around, enjoying the fresh air and beautiful array of flowers that the garden holds. She stops suddenly when lumps of dark blue and bright orange laying in the grass catch her eye. Laying down on the ground, their limbs spread out, are Isabela and Antonio. They don’t seem to be talking, just staring up at the sky in silence. Mirabel quirks an eyebrow and hurries over to them. As she approaches, they do nothing to acknowledge her presence.
“What are you two doing?” Mirabel asks, crossing her arms slightly with an expression of curious amusement. Both Antonio and Isabela have blank and almost slack expressions. Their eyes are barely open as they stare at the sky, blinking slowly when necessary.
“Laying.” Isabela response in a monotone voice. Antonio gives a “mhm” of agreement. Mirabel realizes that Isabela’s pet milk snake, Lotus, is wrapped around Isabela’s arm. Lotus seems to be doing the same thing as Antonio and Isabela as he hugs onto his master’s arm, his eyes slowly blinking.
“Okay... why are you three laying?” Mirabel continues, getting slightly more intrigued. If there is something going on, she wants to be a part of it. Isabela raises her arm that Lotus is hugged to.
“It was his idea.” Antonio answers, pointing at the snake and talking in a similar monotone drawl that mimics Isabela’s. Having given an answer, Isabela lowers her arm and returns to her still state. Antonio continues. “We are basking in the sun.”
“Why?” Mirabel questions further.
“It is a lazy day, and thus we must capture the sun’s warmth for our cold-blooded bodies.” Isabela answers.
“Isa, you’re not a cold-blooded creature you don’t need to-”
“Shhhhhh... we don’t question things on a lazy day Mira.” Isabela holds up a finger and then slowly drops it. Her eyes slowly shut, and she gently pats the ground next to her. “Join us.” Mirabel stares at them, a small smile curling onto her lips.
“Why are you talking all monotone?”
“Lotus says on lazy days we don’t change volume, too much energy.” Antonio answers. Lotus sticks out his tongue slowly to confirm Antonio’s words. Mirabel hums to herself. She isn’t doing anything, and it is a lovely day. Why not? She’ll just lay here with them for a few minutes. She plops herself on the ground, taking off her glasses and spreading out her limbs like Isabela and Antonio. A few seconds go by and she realizes that it actually feels quite nice. Maybe the snake is on to something?
3 hours later
Alma walks into the living room, her eyes scan the room but finds no one. She has looked through the entire house and hasn’t found a single member of her family. Where are they? She heard Julieta and Agustin talking about where Isabela and Mirabel might’ve gone, but that was thirty-five minutes ago. Then Pepa was wondering where Antonio and Felix went. Alma hasn’t seen Camilo at all in the last hour. Even Luisa hasn’t been in the house. And where are Dolores and Bruno?
Huffing in defeat, she turns around and decides to check outside. As she walks through the garden, the sun in the sky is at its peak and its warm rays are kissing the earth. She blinks in confusion when she notices a large pile of bodies laying on the ground and staring up at the sky. She walks closer and sees her entire family lazily staring at the clouds with their limbs spread out.
“What is going on?” Alma asks, trying to hide her giggles. She is met with a chorus of shushing from her family.
“Abuela, it’s a lazy day.” Mirabel answers in a monotone voice.
“Join us mama, it is actually quite nice.” Pepa interjects in a similar tone to Mirabel. Alma raises an eyebrow but shrugs and giggles. Who would she be if she didn’t join in? She can’t be the only person not having a lazy day. She walks over to where Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno are laying and slowly lowers herself onto the ground. As she lays down and looks up at the sky, feeling the warm sun on her face, she questions why she never did this before. It’s actually very nice. Bruno, Camilo, and Luisa quickly fall asleep, their gentle snores fill the open air. Alma smiles to herself. What a lovely, lazy day.
-----------------------------------------------------
Take another short drabble from my drafts! Idk why I never posted this one lol I wrote it when I did the post about what animals I think the Madrigal’s would have. I love the idea of Isabela having a tight bond with her snake and therefore goes to Antonio to ask him what Lotus wants to do lol And thus the Madrigal sun bathing lazy day was created.

anyway. can’t sleep watched an animated movie for comfort as one does and. i have to wonder where the idea that pepa and felix are these parents who stand up to alma when she goes too far and julieta and agustin aren’t came from?
i mean. julieta and agustin are the only ones we actually saw defending mirabel to alma, even at the risk of her anger. julieta may not have yelled at her, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t defend her daughter. agustin especially, too. i don’t doubt pepa and felix are good parents but i do think it’s. especially exaggerated in comparison to how people write julieta and agustin as. lesser parents? when for all intents and purposes, they do have good relationships with their daughters. alma is the one who has strained relationships with the girls.

I sopravvissuti della città morta (The Ark of the Sun God, 1984)
"How do you do, Rick?"
"Not bad, it's a miracle I'm still alive. You could have warned me it was so risky. Roger Moore would have been better suited for such a mission."
"Oh, you're not too bad - but definitely not as strapping."
#I sopravvissuti della città morta#the ark of the sun god#italian cinema#1984#antonio margheriti#giovanni paolucci#giovanni simonelli#david warbeck#john steiner#susie sudlow#luciano pigozzi#ricardo palacios#achille brugnini#aytekin akkaya#süleyman turan#aldo tamborelli#alberto moriani#adventure film#had to use the above quote bc of the deliberate injoke (Warbeck famously spent the 70s on a retainer as a potential replacement for Moore#in the Bond series‚ should he drop out of the role or become in some way incapacitated). this is less Bond and more (much more) Indiana#Jones: yes it's another classic Italian ripoff of a wildly successful US commodity. director Margheriti secured regular Brits abroad#Warbeck and Steiner‚ flew out to Turkey and shot one of the handsomest films of his long career; the locations are stunning‚ the temple#sets ingeniously impressive‚ there's car and helicopter chases galore. ok so some of the car chases are shot using miniatures.. but if#anything that just adds to the unlikely charm. visually this may be a winner but scripting and plotting aren't quite so tight. tbh even#at just a little over 90 minutes this still somehow feels a bit strung out‚ taking an age to get to the temple business and with far too#much toing and froing before it. still‚ the Brits are on good form‚ and even better are Pigozzi and Palacios as supporting treasure hunters#who routinely steal their every scene (and quickly become the characters you actually care about once the bullets start flying in the#violent finále). a fun dumb adventure time but hardly an essential entry in the Italian genre canon

Who Are the Good and Who Are the Bad Bail Bondsmen in San Antonio, Texas?
When choosing a bail bond agent in the vibrant city of San Antonio, Texas, it can often feel like navigating a menu at a Tex-Mex restaurant. With so many options, separating the savory from the sour is essential.
Like ordering your favorite dish, selecting the right bail bondsman is finding that perfect blend of professionalism, trustworthiness, and reliability. So, let's dig into this flavorful topic and discover who the reasonable and not-so-good bail bond agents are in Alamo City!
The Good Bondsmen
Imagine you're at your favorite Tex-Mex joint, and the first thing you encounter is a delicious bowl of fresh guacamole – smooth, vibrant, and oh-so-inviting. This is how you should feel when dealing with a good bail bond agent.
Transparency: The good bail bonds companies, such as McRae Bail Bonds, are like the transparent glass through which you view your sizzling fajitas being prepared right before you. They should be clear about the entire process, fees, and terms. No hidden ingredients allowed!
Availability: Like your favorite taco spot always open for that midnight craving, reliable bondsmen, like McRae Bail Bonds, are available 24/7. Emergencies don't wait for office hours, after all.
Local Expertise: San Antonio is a unique city with legal quirks and procedures, much like the secret family recipe for a perfect salsa. A good bail bonds company, again like McRae Bail Bonds, knows the local courts, judges, and the system like the back of their hand.
Reviews and Recommendations: Just as you'd ask your amigos for restaurant recommendations, seek out reviews and recommendations about bail bondsmen. That is how good bail bonds companies like McRae Bail Bonds get many of their clients. This is the best way. Trust the word-of-mouth from those who have experienced their services firsthand.
National Association of Bail Agents: Most good bail agents are members of industry associations such as the National Association of Bail Agents.
The Not-So-Good Bondsmen
Now, picture ordering nachos at your favorite Tex-Mex spot, only to receive a sad plate of soggy chips with bland toppings. That's precisely how you don't want your experience with a bail bondsman to be. We won't mention any names for this bunch.
Hidden Fees: Like discovering unexpected extra charges on your bill, some bondsmen might spring hidden fees on you. Always read the fine print and ask questions about fees you need help understanding.
Lack of Communication: Just as you want to avoid chasing down your server for a refill on your drink, you want to avoid chasing your bondsman for updates on your case. A good bondsman should keep you informed at all times.
Unprofessional Behavior: If a bail bonds company acts unprofessionally or makes you uncomfortable, it's like finding a hair in your enchilada – a total deal-breaker. Respect and professionalism should be non-negotiable.
Limited Local Knowledge: A bondsman without in-depth knowledge of the San Antonio legal scene is bland and unsatisfying, like a taco without the correct seasoning. Avoid those who seem unfamiliar with the local court processes.
In the end, finding the right bail bondsman in San Antonio is akin to selecting the perfect Tex-Mex dish. Look for transparency, availability, local expertise, and positive reviews to ensure a guacamole-worthy experience. Avoid those who serve up soggy nachos of hidden fees, poor communication, unprofessional behavior, or limited local knowledge.
So, choose your bondsman wisely next time you find yourself in a legal pickle in San Antonio. After all, just as a good Tex-Mex meal can brighten your day, a good bondsman can make your legal journey much smoother.
