#any activist group or fandom is fine
Note
I definitely agree about the para social stuff and it sucks but tbh I feel like I learned my lesson a long time ago with Taylor that she’s either not or doesn’t know how to be fully committed to her “right side of history” spiel.
She’s never been particularly good about speaking up about sociopolitical issues and when she has, it’s very safe and minimal. So her dating someone like Matty doesn’t surprise me. It’s just another indicator that certain values only run skin deep.
Because in terms of letting her fail and make mistakes, as a person of color, it seems like this is one area where she’s CONSTANTLY failing and making mistakes and we (poc) are asked to give her grace to be human over and over again but at a certain point I think the fandom needs to just accept this is just who is she is.
She’s not like the worst person on earth or anything so extreme, but she’s not someone who knows how to use her position to be a good ally. I love her music. That’s as far as we should take it with her in terms of expectations imo.
well i think the right side of history speech to her father and robert was ONLY pertaining to marsha blackburn - I dont think it was intended to be about every or any future situation or anything else. I think it would be unfair to take that moment between her and her family / robert out of context and expect her to apply that same 'right side of history' philosophy to every situation following it. she was literally only talking about that woman running for the senate seat in her homestate and feeling compelled to speak about it bc the woman doesnt represent her values as a tennesean.
I def hear your points and can understand where you're coming from, and I appreciate you sharing them with me. I think poc and all other marginalized groups should have a safe space to share their reactions to things that happen whether it is finding out a person said something on a podcast that was offensive, or that a governor banned certain topics from being taught in universities (looking at you, florida), or that republicans claim that mental health not is the root of every mass shooting and then unanimously vote down bill after bill in the House to expand mental health access in public schools (yep). After all this is a blog website and the whole point of a blog is to share ones opinions.
I do think allyism, activism and philanthropy get a little mixed up around here sometimes, though. I dont think its realistic to expect taylor to be a big activist or even a prominent ally. That just isn't her. Like I said the other day, she is very philanthropic and that is mostly how she supports social causes, through philanthropy, rather than through demonstrative allyship or through activism, although she does do both of those at times. it just isn't her focus with her public existence - her focus is very much art, art, art, art, art, art. The lack of something doesn't mean (to me) for example that she isn't an ally to a community, like lgbtq people and rights, or that she does or does not hold certain beliefs about right and wrong, votes a certain way, and so on, But that she isnt likely to be vocal about it publicly. It can be disappointing to me at times, because I can see another path forward in my head that would probably be just fine! ANd you wanna be like UGH why!!

Wtf is happening over on ofmd Twitter??
I dont tag in much so last i was aware was the ‘stede bonnet is a racist and u are too’ fluff. And this is of course my take. I only peak in anymore someone more involved might be able to explain better.
Theres some lovely ppl over there, gorgeous art and nsfw art too. But starting lets say may-ish a group of mostly young fans (judging by their profiles most were under 22) started saying most fans were racist for liking Stede Bonnet or Izzy and basically white people and straight ppl shouldnt be allowed to watch or be fans. If u like Con or Izzy (yup both) you were basically a klan member cuz clearly he thinks Ed is his slave etc. it goes on.
Look im white and cishet so im basically 3% of most of the fandom. But i found this particularly interesting cuz a lot of these people crossed over with Wwdits and no one wanted to talk about Kayvan Novak doing repeated blackface starting in 2015. They also didnt want to acknowledge Taika said some real terfy shit when he was my age in 2014 (mustve been an asshole era). Neither man has apologized (or mark proksch) and Kayvan doubled down on it last year.
So look i absolutely can not say how poc are allowed to feel. I just find it very odd they want to lynch Rhys and Con but are fine with Kayvan especially. Blackface to me seems like an ultimate sin.
So moving along… by the C2e2 they wanted to cancel Con for playing Izzy and slammed anyone who fangirled over him. A few weeks later Con made an insensitive comment about a tory having a coke nose, comparing it to a latine country. For some reason that didnt blow up til August. He did apologize and deleted or paused his twitter (he claimed before it blew up he would for filming and this coincided with filming beginning so hard to say). Most of them felt apologizing was no good and this was proof he was truly a racist playing a racist character.
(Fyi my personal belief is ppl should take responsibility, sincerely apologize, and never do x again).
Rhys’ wife is a royalist and when the Queen died they went after her and Rhys for saying Elizabeth’s death was sad. Wife doubled down. Ppl said proof shes racist and he should divorce her (i mean…i didnt love it but they really went after them. Im no royalist and think the queen was a colonizer.)
So then a few weeks ago Rhys Darby briefly replied to a friend that he felt playing Stede Bonnet was like reliving a past life. It was like 2 sentences. Ppl first thought it was cute, then this mob came to feast. They attacked any fan who liked it and attacked rhys so much he declared this is why he doesnt tweet much.
I personally took the tweet to mean he felt like he was reliving a life, not necessarily Stede Bonnet the real dude. But i mean shit if ur playing (or claiming) a rich white man pre 1860 the dude was likely a slave owner. Not a justification but liking a fictional character doesnt mean u think the fictional character is the real dude. I didnt know Stede Bonnet existed before ofmd. Real dude was a cunty slave owner who was prbly mentally ill and an asshole to his crew. I dont conflate Rhys’ bird of paradise bitchy queen with that dude. In my world Stede Bonnet is a fictional character. Fuck the real guy.
Soooo ive ranted nice and long here (sorry i have feelings). But the summary is theres a young mob of ofmd fans on twitter who want to prove they are activists by being assholes to real ppl who arent doing anything worth calling out…while also not calling out actors who really have done shit. Basically baby bullies. And oddly many of them are white so its even weirder. But thats that. I dont recommend bothering with it.

i know i just reblogged a tumblr field guide and all but i need to tell you things that ive learned in my 11 years here:
popularity does exist in tumblr but its not guided by how many followers you have it is based on the amount of asks you probably get and the metric of it is that youll get some insane asks in here if you Just Wait, from invasive questions to people asking you what do you think of the death penalty in america when you have a blog about My Hero Academia , to bait questions or copypastas that been passed for half a decade about an user called Amegaotaku that youll have to research to even understand what the hell it means . "Popular" people of tumblr can remake their blogs constantly but what matters is that you have people who Wont Shut Up and engage conversation with you, especially through asks, when people want your attention, theyll probably send you an ask.
this doesnt happen as often as it did in the mid 2010s but embarassing yourselves in public is incredibly easy in this site if you Throw Yourself to the wolves, as in , you impulsively add onto a conversation with an addition thats often done emotionally, carelessly, or literally misinterpreting the intent of a post itself because you took it personally. this literally never goes well especially if you engaged with a post from an user who has Very reactive followers, because while i doubt youll get threats or such, youll still probably get hounded in the replies and this site´s social rules are extremely lax with the words you are allowed to say. While a whole "we need to be kind to eachother" approach IS the reasonable solution, it is much better to not engage with innocous posts that piss you off if you are aware that the average tumblr user doesnt have any tact whatsoever and is bloodthirsty for a punching bag, they are mostly teens after all, and adults that dont have positive social role models. Screenshot the post that pisses you off and talk about it in your own new post to discuss it with your actual fellow people.
if youre gonna be interested in interacting with posts relating to race, politics, gender or such, be expected to at least list your race and gender (or whether youre exempt from transmisogyny or not) , encroaching into intracommunity issues and trying to add or say anything when its none of your business or you literally dont know what it entails is not wise. also posts and listings about how to "listen to (insert marginalized group)! " from teenagers are really unneded here because theres already so many in depth resource posts in here made by qualified activists, historians, researchers and more, and they been shared for years, or twitter/instagram posts have been literally just regurgitating stuff from HERE. NOTE: i reccomend making sideblogs for this stuff, NOT DISCOURSE BLOGS but just sideblogs where youre not just mixing Supernatural posting and Protest Bills for 2023 , or better, keep all your political talk and engagement in your main blog and use a sideblog for fandom, if you get enough followers in any of these your reach for important posts can be bigger, thats why i reblog donation posts or commission posts in here at times.
A lot of posts abt Tumblr Etiquette or whatever will tell you that you need to engage constantly and all and make your own posts and tag everything or else youll be treated as a Bot, but you dont really, when i joined tumblr in 2012 i lurked for 3 years and just reblogged posts without much mind or even posting much, but there was no expectation of me to do anything than to just look around , and its fine, i think if i said anything thru my early teens it would have been a disaster considering how much my late teens were, it would have made it worse, you dont need to say anything if you dont wanna, you dont need to form any sort of persona here or talk to people if its not your thing and youre young or not , maybe you wanna learn the ropes first and learn "the culture" before diving in, maybe you just like to observe what happens without having to participate, whatever it is this site is just what you make of it.

genuine question and not at all a gotcha or anything, I'm wondering this for myself as well - if/when she splits from the rat, do we go back to normal? is the damage done? I love her and her music so much and don't want to lose that, but I'm hurt right now, so is it hypocritical to want to keep that? to keep posting her? not to sound insane but I don't know what the best choice is here.
there was a post in the sub that touched my heart about how rare it is to see huge groups of women happy and excited together, and i mention it not only because it's sweet, but because i think it's important, and also speaks to why the fandom is upset right now. we love sharing something together and having a community and an escape. we love having something connective and that resonates so deeply for us. and i think we don't want other fans, marginalized women especially, to feel shut out. it's just something to keep in mind about why her music is special to us.
you're asking valid questions for anyone who IS upset, and i don't know the answer. i don't think there is one singular answer, because we're all different and making our own decisions. some people are upset and distancing, some people are upset but still posting content (totally understandable imho because many fans love the community and supporting creators too, and that's a part of the experience. fans make the most beautiful edits/gifs here and it makes me happy to see them, so...do i take that away from myself and those people, and to what end if it doesn't really make a difference? which it doesn't. plus reblogging content isn't monetizing anything. it all comes down to personal choices and comfort levels here), and you know...we're human and nobody's perfect and most of us are trying to have fun in our cozy little online spaces. not posting doesn't necessarily affect anyone but you. is it making you sadder not to? or do you need some time away? any response there is okay.
for the record, i don't expect her to be perfect either! i personally have never demanded political stances from her, as she is a musician and celebrity, she is not an activist. i don't expect any artist (or any human) to be perfect, as i've said before, if i demanded unimpeachable behavior, i couldn't be a fan of anyone ever. no one could. i typically think we should be better at understanding flaws, forgiving mistakes when possible, and lending grace and empathy to people - to each other, to artists, and find the humanity and the good there. there are occasions where that becomes untenable. she is nowhere near that point herself. what fans are struggling with here is a specific disconnect, while the majority of criticism lands on him. it's impossible to say what we'll feel in the future. it's just raw right now.
and yeah, being concerned about this isn't activism. yeah, it's easier to be mad at a singular schmuck than it is to combat systemic oppression or social issues on a wide scale. i don't think anyone voicing an opinion here is confused about that. they're feeling an emotional response to gross actions/commentary, and that's okay to express. it's no substitute for any other action, and i don't want to say anyone is hypocritical in their approach. plenty of fans are voicing their concerns while still participating in the fandom and listening to songs and that's fine. like...at the end of the day, she's an extremely famous pop musician we enjoy who doesn't know we exist. your blog is your own. it's whatever you're comfortable with and makes you happy. whatever you want to do is the right thing, and if anyone judges you for it, that's their problem.
for my part, i'm doing my best and playing this day-by-day, the break i needed is because i'm overly sensitive, and seeing/hearing directly from other people who are hurting breaks my heart, and that took priority. i know what it's like to feel as though something dear to you has been damaged, and how you just yearn to get that comfort back, and it has stirred up some other assorted stuff for me. it doesn't mean i'm leaving. it doesn't change what she's meant to me for fifteen years or the many times she's given me joy and solace in the darkest moments. that's all still true. i know i keep saying this, but the music will always be there and its inherent meaning is unchanged. whatever is happening or might happen doesn't diminish that.
tl;dr you're not a hypocrite for loving something that has been so significant to you for so long and wanting to hold onto it.

BL is guy-on-guy Japanese media. Short for boy's love. I've watched a lot of "activists" who claim to be for LGBT people say that any guy-on-guy stuff will always fetishize gay/bi men, even if it's men who enjoy it too. BL tends to be more geared towards women, but that isn't to say men don't enjoy it either. The men who like bl/geicomi (gay comics) tend to get treated as "traitors" for their enjoyment. There's a very big cultural component with LGBT women enjoying that kind of stuff. Japanese context, I mean. There is the stereotype of women who have looked at gay/bi men as something to fulfill their shipping fodder, but I really do think that can be fixed with more socialization. And those girls thinking that's how real gay/bi men work. Unhealthy dynamics, yadda yadda. It's a matter of separating fiction from reality, I suppose? And the stereotype of those girls is them drooling over a gay couple irl, waiting for them to kiss. "Oh, this is just like one of my animes!" If I can paraphrase Hal from Metal Gear Solid. I'm summing things up and probably not doing a good job of it. Sometimes those girls are just starting to realize things about their own sexuality. Doesn't exactly excuse them, but I've seen guys get creepy about gals on that side too. Real gals, I mean. Does that make sense? While I personally wretch at the whole "male gaze theory" and stuff like that...at the end of the day, those characters are fictional. What truly matters, I think, is how you treat real people. Treat those as you wish to be treated, y'know? That's how I've gone about it. Dunno how it'll work for you, Nonny.~From an older bisexual weeb-ass woman who enjoys bl/geicomi/yuri/straight stuff and who has seen some shit since the early 2000's to the BL anon girl.
Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.
I mean, I don't think that women fetishising mlm relationships should just be swept under the rug like this. This sort of feels like you're just trying to say that it isn't really a problem, when it kind of is. Like I do think that some stories of people like that are exaggerated, but that doesn't mean that fetishising mlm or wlw relationships is like, an okay or good thing to do.
Basically, if you are very very invested in a group (especially a minority group) that you yourself are not a part of, why? Why are you so fascinated? What specifically is it about mlm relationships that non mlm are so invested in? Usually when it's wlw relationships being fetishised it winds up devaluing the relationship and putting it 'not on the same level' as hetero relationships. It's treated like it's just entertainment (generally for hetero men) who just think the idea of 2 women is hot even though they don't actually view that as a valid or 'real' relationship. I think that the fetishisation around mlm relationships in fandom spaces, which I usually see coming from hetero (although sometimes bi, apparently) women is kind of the same thing on a smaller scale. In a lot of fandom areas mlm relationships get treated like their only real value is as entertainment.
Frankly fetishisation of mlm and wlw relationships is just kind of another flavour of homophobia. That being said, it obviously isn't inherently fetishising for a woman to enjoy some mlm content or a man to enjoy some wlw content. It's just when it becomes like, very close to an obsession, or like the only sort of media that you're interested in that it becomes problematic.
The way the last anon described her feelings felt kind of off, and idk if I just misread or something, but it sounded like she said that even though she's a bi woman, she feels liberated by only mlm media which goes against gender norms and toxic masculinity. Well.. why not also wlw media? Why not women who go against gender norms also..?
Tldr, I'm not saying it's wrong or bad for someone to enjoy stories about people who are not the same as them, it's fine to do that. But when you become obsessed or very enamoured with a group of people that you are not a part of, you really need to ask yourself why.

What’s with people actively trying to erase the fact that Adam is an oppressed minority in the story? That’s like 80% of his character but for some reason we are getting takes like “Adam is a White Saviour”, “Adam is appropriating Blake’s culture”, “Adam represents people who take advantage of activist groups that fight for minorities” - and before you start thinking that this one statement kind of makes sense considering what he did with the WF, that same person also compared Adam to creepy straight men who pretend to be feminists so they can get closer to women and take advantage of them. It’s like they willfully forget the fact that not only is Adam part of the oppressed class, he has been the victim of disgusting anti-faunus racism. So he literally can’t play the role the meanie white privileged individual who takes advantage of poc. He can’t be the equivalent of a privileged white man who took advantage and appropriated woc Blake’s culture and organisation and spoke over her about oppression he hasn’t experienced - because that directly contradicts the core of his character . Sometimes I wish CRWBY had written Adam as a human who pretends to be faunus and exploits the movement for his own sake. At least then the fandom will be free to come up with those braindead takes and we’d avoid the racist implications. Unfortunately CRWBY is making things worse because they too are trying to erase any instances of Adam being victimised by and subjected to anti faunus racism (Like when they claimed that actually he wasn’t a child slave and actually he didn’t experience a horrific hate crime, nooo he got into an argument with a coworker because he is such a horrible horrible person and got branded in the process). What also bothers me is how part of the fandom pushes the idea that Adam hates other oppressed groups - I’ve seen plenty of people headcanon that he is homophobic, misogynistic, etc. Sometimes it’s said as a joke which is fine, other times it’s stated as a serious take. I’ve seen people getting bullied for even jokingly saying that Adam isn’t straight. At one point I was convinced that I missed something in canon - did he make a homophobic remark towards Blake and Yang during their fight? Was he ever misogynistic towards Blake or Ilia or another woman in the WF? So I rewatched the series and of course, found nothing in canon that indicates bigotry towards another group that isn’t the humans. Of course, he is an abusive piece of shit but this is Adam we are talking about, he is unstable and messed up and I’m certain he would have ended up being abusive towards his s/o regardless of gender. Now, that wouldn’t be so weird because anyone is free to have their headcanons, jokey jokes, hot takes etc. but when you also consider that this part of the fandom is also actively trying to erase that character’s status as part of the oppressed class? It gets kinda strange imo. You are not only trying to discard Adam’s oppression & the discrimination he has been subjected to but are also pushing the idea that he hates & is bigoted towards other OPPRESSED groups? Like, for what? Where is the logic? What is the reason?
Because they want him to be the ultimate perpetrator and for Blake to be the ultimate victim. They don’t want to acknowledge that Blake actually had it easier than Adam, that she has a lot more privilege in both their appearances and their backstories, because that would mean admitting that Adam had some merit to his character, that he isn’t always above Blake in the hierarchy and that Blake actually holds some power over Adam just in terms of status.
That changed when she gave it up and he was in control of their faction, but that could always change back because Blake had the opportunity to go home at any time. She always had that way out, whereas Adam didn’t. If they weren’t in the White Fang, Blake would be over Adam because she’s essentially a princess of an ethnostate that is entirely made of their people.
So, they change it. They try and paint Adam as the White Saviour to Blake’s Oppressed Minority, so that they can justify their version of the power imbalance. Even when canon shows us a very different version.

most people that don’t like kie don’t like her because she
1. gets mad at JJ when he calls her out for being rich
2. prioritizes john b constantly because whatever feelings she has towards him gave her tunnel vision
3. tried to guilt-trip pope into missing his scholarship interview despite the fact that, like he said, she wasn’t there for any of them when big john went missing
4. talks about the gold, pope’s scholarship, and things that happen to the boys because of them living in the cut as if it’s okay to just toss them aside when it’s only okay to do that for her- seeing as she doesn’t need the money, and she doesn’t need a scholarship. the only thing that makes her a pogue is that she decided to hang out with them, which is fine but she can’t act like she goes through what people on the cut do seeing as she doesn’t actually live there or go to their school. these things are only expendable for her.
5. she tried to fight pope on the boat because he rightfully called her out on her “moral high ground bullshit”
6. she gives off performative activist. she’ll talk about saving the turtles but when jj is clearly hysterical or something with his buying a hot tub using his share, she says he could have “literally given it to any charity” as if he isn’t quite literally the charity… even without seeing the bruises it’s clear that jj is in an unstable environment with someone who doesn’t care about him and can’t support him financially.
7.she doesn’t sympathize with jj until after the jj/pope/kie hot tub group hug when she sees his bruises. she just ignores whatever he says when he mentions her financial privilege and insults him in a non-friendly way. (he insults her too obviously, but since the show never goes in depth to discuss kie’s struggles as a biracial girl or pope’s struggles as a black boy, it’s not something that jj can randomly sympathize with, seeing as it’s never brought to light. if it was brought up and jj were to react like she’s being annoying for pointing it out or pointing it out to spite him, i would have major problems with jj because acknowledging whatever privilege you have is important, especially when you’re with people that don’t have that privilege/when you’re someone whose character is supposed to be the activist type. and i’m not equating racial privilege to financial privilege, i’m just mentioning it because classism is pretty much the basis of the entire show and its plot.)
anyway… this is the reason i’ve seen most jjpopes dislike kie. mentioning the “kiara sucks” anon as if that is a blanket statement of all jjpopes is strange. we aren’t some raging misogynists out to get her, but you saying that pope is a very flawed character with no examples to back it up but also getting irritated when someone says kiara sucks with no examples to back it up is ridiculous. these are examples. since this is in response to your response to that ask, i’ll also add that while your experiences as a queer person are valid, they aren’t universal (“Any queer person knows that you can’t be as forthcoming and open about our affections as straight people are.”)
i get where you’re coming from with saying a regular character might not be outward about his feelings, but jj is not a regular character. jj is a nothing-to-lose kind of character, so your reasoning for why those many displays of affection throughout the show weren’t intended to be romantic just doesn’t really add up? of course he values pope’s friendship and wouldn’t want to risk it, but it’s also evident that he’s a very good liar and could easily say he was joking or wasn’t trying to seem like any of his actions were romantic, something you can also probably understand/have experienced as a queer person. your very statement that jj is someone who flirts with anyone is counterproductive to the statement that that means he doesn’t have feelings for pope. he flirts with every girl, but he can only form a lasting bond while also doing things you’d normally do with a crush, with pope. a lot of jjpopes including myself think he’s gay, and comphet/trying to prove to yourself that you’re straight by engaging in meaningless hookups (like jj) is reason for that headcanon. i get what you’re saying for other characters, but there’s no indication of jj not having that same nothing-to-lose attitude when it comes to people he has romantic feelings for, so there would be no reason for the pull-back or hesitation that you mentioned. and since he knows pope and his connection (whether it be platonic or romantic to both of them) is so strong, he probably assumes nothing could break that bond/dynamic either way.
also no one called you anti-black or implied that you were for saying pope is a flawed character, but it would be surprising to see one that isn’t rooted in that because all of them in the past have been- this fandom is wildly colorist and homophobic (another reason representation like jjpope is so important) and it’s extremely hard to find someone that doesn’t like pope without an explanation for their dislike that isn’t rooted in racism. that’s just common sense, though.
You know, I've been looking at this ask for a long time just wondering if it's worth my time to address all of this - like I didn't realise one could send asks this big. But I'm bored and got a beer in me so fuck it let's go.
So first let's talk about the reasons you hate Kie. I'm gonna admit that I to think she is flawed, like every other obx character, she is also a victim to bad writing and under developed. But also I just do not understand how people can hate her or insists that she is a bad person, don't get me wrong sometimes you just don't vibe with a character and there is nothing wrong with that but hating them and tearing them down is a very different thing.
Now I've said this before but let me reiterate. Not liking a character or ship or preferring one over the other does not automatically make you racist, misogynistic or homophobic. But I do think it is important to take a step back and assess our motivation and perhaps internalised biases. Sometimes you will find that you reasoning is without much substance and realise that you have some things to work on, sometimes even though mentally you don't have the conscious block there is something internalised about that - I know I have been subject to that. This doesn't make you a bad person, and you don't have to force yourself to like it or anything, but just be aware and sometimes it's okay to just remove yourself for the conversation because the people who do like it aren't supporting something that is morally corrupt and it doesn't have to be the subject of discourse. People can like different stuff.
So:
1. Did you mean pulls faces when JJ calls her rich? Cause that's what she does, gets a little annoyed, pulls a face but doesn't say anything because she know he's got a point. I'm very confused about you definition of angry and perhaps be careful about perpetuating the 'angry black woman' stereotype.
Also, I think it's important to note that clearly the kooks vs pogues divide has pretty much abolished the middle class, and you are either lower class or 'rich'. The Carrera's very clearly still struggle with money and are not on the same level of kooks as the Cameron's. So yeah, I think she's justified to roll her eyes at JJ saying she's rich as fuck and doesn't need money.
2. Prioritizes John B because his dad's gone missing, he's been abandoned by his guardian, is being threatened with being taken away from his home and everything he knows and is in general spiralling? Yeah. What a fucking monster. Also, I find it hard to find a justification for Kie having canon romantic feelings from John B that isn't just born from heteronormativity - her caring about him and then getting kissed by him does not equal a love match.
3. It wasn't about missing the interview - which wasn't until the next fucking day - it was about not giving up looking for their friend who was in a really bad way. Like - you cannot say that getting a scholarship when you are 16 is more important that John B's actual life being at stake ?
The fact that she wasn't there when John B went missing wasn't relevant? Like I've talked about why I hate Pope in this scene. But like, Pope is saying 'um you can't call me out on being a bad friend now cause you were a bad friend then'. That's the point, Kie caring so much about John B is rooted in guilt cause she wasn't there, and now she's trying to be there and support him, to prove that she's a better friend now. That's she's different, because she is.
4. I would love some specific examples of her brushing this stuff off like it means nothing. Other than the boat scene which once again, justified. And once again, Kie isn't destitute at all and no she doesn't fully understand the struggles of the boys or the cut but her family is not rolling in it and spending weekends on Yachts. Like this point is such a bloody reach.
5. I don't love that she got physical with him either. But she didn't do that because she got called out. She got upset because Pope was the one person she confided in about that happened during her kook year, about how bad it was, about the fact that she was suicidal and Sarah saved her and that's why she was so drawn to that, not because she wanted to be a kook, and Pope just throws that back in her face because he's jealous that Kie cares more about John B's problems than his.
6. Well this is just a misrepresentation of what happened. She said give it to any charity because in that moment it seemed like without a reason JJ just blew that money on stupid shit. Pope thought the same thing that's why he yells at him for not using it for restitution. In that moment he just seems like he is being drunk and irresponsible, because they didn't think he would go back to Luke, Pope literally says that he wouldn't. And then note how when they see the bruises they know what happened and the tone instantly changes cause they realise what happened. And that he did try to do the right thing and got flogged because of it. And she is right in there to comfort him and reassure him. So like... yeah.
7. Please give me example for this. I don't see Kie insulting him that isn't a justified call out or playful banter that is returned and part of their push and shove dynamic. You know... just being friends.
The only times we see Kie react to JJ's home life she is concerned and sympathetic. She's the only one who's worried about JJ going home when he storms off and is instantly there to comfort him when she knows he's had interaction with Luke. I really don't know where you are getting this from.
I don't use it as a blanket statement, I know not to group shippers in as one, I know there are jiara shippers that I do not see eye to eye with for a second. The reason I bring up the 'kiara sucks' thing is because of the context it was used. We weren't talking about Kie, it wasn't relevant, it had no reason to be there or anything to back it up. It was random bitching and as you say fandom is a very racist place so yeah, it seemed like racism to me. Like you realise you are calling me ridiculous for being annoyed that someone just came to me and said Kie sucks without reason, and then this ask goes onto be annoyed that I have some issues with Pope and that more than likely racist for thinking it because you've elected to ignore my massive post outlining my stance on this.
My experiences as a queer person are not universal, no. But I do know they are very common. I'm so thankful that there are people out there who don't experience this and I hope that in the future it will be the norm. But realistically, with what we know about JJ, I think it is more than likely that would be his experience.
Look if you headcanon him as gay say the things with girls is comphet, then that's your view and I won't fight you on it. But remember that that is a headcanon. And what I have been talking about is were they intentionally setting up jjpope and are those actions indicative of romantic attraction, which if they we're they would have made a point to frame it as comp het, which they didn't, they might in the future but for now - they aren't. In terms of being a good liar, I just- like gay panic is a very strong thing. There young girls who tell everyone they don't like hugs because they actually really liked the hugs and feel like people will know that they are gay if they hug their friend, a hug. I can't see 'I'm a good liar' being enough to overcome those sorts of feelings.
The thing is while JJ has a nothing to lose attitude when it comes to his life and future the same doesn't apply to his relationships, because the Pogues are his thing to lose, his only family, the one good thing. I can't see him just saying fuck it I could risk losing Pope. So I can't agree with you there.
First of all, I was called anti-black for not liking Pope, despite the fact that I don't hate him, and just had valid reasons for thinking he is flawed, not the devil incarnate. Two, I am well aware that this fandom is racist, like all fucking fandoms, and have talked about it. And I think that fact that I don't hate Pope and laid out very clearly the reasons I don't think he's some perfect angel that does no wrong kinda shows that I'm not just random bitching because he's black. Also - I'm a fucking Kie stan. I have to deal with people hating on Kie for the same reasons they love Sarah - it's very obvious to see people motivations there.
And you are right. An interracial mlm ship would be great representation. So would an interracial ship between the hot guy that everyone loves with the black girl - because doesn't he always end up with the white self insert? But reminder that ships don't automatically have superiority because they have 'better' representation and certainly does not represent a shipper 'wokeness'. Personally I think a platonic relationship between two men that are as close and physically affectionate as JJ and Pope - especially when one is so traditionally masculine as JJ, especially if one or both of them could be queer - would be great representation for young boys struggling with toxic masculinity.
So yeah, I think your reasons for hating Kie don't have much basis in canon. I do not give if you like her or not but.. hating her and trying to prove that people shouldn't like her, that she's not good enough for JJ and coming into my ask and putting her down for no reason, still does not sit right with me.

Cockles HQ Weekly #2: The Prequel
Tumblr media

For this second edition of ‘The Weekly’ we asked our members the following:
What is you opinion on CMP's prequel 'The Winchesters'?
(Keep in mind, these answers were given shortly after the news dropped)
Read the answers below the break.
Anonymous 1:
I'm pretty much cautiously positive about it. I'm cautious about the possibility that they might pull a Disney villain and redeem John Winchester, but hoping that since John changed after Mary died, they will show his spiral down and his abusive behavior towards his sons. On the other hand, I'm excited for a story centered on Mary because she was this mysterious figure in the boys' lives. I dislike that they always use a dead mom or significant female other to forward the story but now we get to see her side of the story, and how badass she would be especially with Robbie on the ride. Then moving forward with it, the possibility of CMP getting the rights for SPN to make true to Wayward Sisters! Now that I'm excited as well. In addition, the possibilities are endless, both good and bad. This could expand the original world! More mysteries and such too! Take in other culture's myths and urban legends because America is an immigrant nation. That would be very cool. Oh! And since the production made a point that they have a LGBTQIA+ activist on the board, this could turn into a more diverse cast and crew and I am living for it!
Anonymous 2:
I'm optimistic. I'm here for anything that expands that universe. I can also understand the speculative reasons as to why this was chosen before anything else. I'm excited for what it'll be able to show us, more history regarding this family. We've never really gotten that. We've only ever had post-pilot John/memories and current-Mary. We had brief glimpses into the past, into the Campbells as well, but nothing truly substantial. I also trust the team behind it. Robbie Thompson was an excellent writer who gave us two very beloved characters who were also badasses and women. He's written very strong episodes, some of this fandom's favorites. He's written John critical lines. Not only that, but he had to watch them gut Charlie like a fish and leave her to die in the tub. He wasn't around when Eileen was killed but still. The thing that gets me is that there are clearly meetings we don't know about, will probably not know about, where Thompson, Dee, and Jensen were all talking about the vision and whatever it was, whatever the story premise is, it was enough for Robbie to come back on board into this universe that didn't treat his characters kindly. To me, that's one of the biggest flags of positivity. I'm also excited because a new show in the same universe provides more canon to use in other shows like Wayward Sisters or a continuation. What if there's a hidden spell for something, what if there's a lore book that hasn't been found yet? What if there's a demon we've never met yet or better, we HAVE met and looks like they also crossed paths with Mary and John? I know there's criticism regarding the fact that John and Mary were set up — there's nothing in the premise that suggests they won't be also exploring that as well. This show also has the potential for us to see other beloved characters like Rowena, Crowley, Balthazar, Gabriel, Anna and Cas by Time Travel, Uriel, Zachariah, a young Bobby maybe before hunting, a younger Rufus — Chuck???? So I think it's really just another world of possibilities. It also excites me that this small production company is given a SPN project right off the bat. It's testing time, it's time to explore and see what can be done and what can be brought to the table. Something to get to the holy grail of a reboot/continuation. Dean seemingly narrating it provides so many interesting questions as well. What's he narrating? Where did he hear these stories? Who is he telling them to? It's FASCINATING. Plus it'll just be nice to hear him again. I think this prequel has a lot of possibilities. And let it be known that CMP is seemingly taking a hard stance on including LGBTQAI stories since the same day as this announcement, their Head of Development - Renee Reiff - was announced to have joined a group in Hollywood whose sole aim is to help being LGBTQAI stories to light. It's not lost on me that telling queer stories is one of CMP's established pillars. Yes, I know there's doubts with the CW — but I'm also a big fan of "not judging something until I can watch the whole thing with my own two eyes and process what I'm given".
Anonymous 3:
I wasn't completely on board with the prequel until I saw Robbie Thompson was involved. I trust Robbie with SPN, and so I trust Dee and Jensen for having the wisdom to bring him back into the fold.
Anonymous 4:
I don't like the prequel pitch. And it's fine. There is a lot of reasons not to like it. Every one of us, less-than-enthusiastic fandom members, have theirs. Some of us may become more optimistic with time. Some may read other people points about why it's a good pitch and may change their minds. Still, some, like me, can remain unconvinced. CMP made a really risky move with deciding they want to make a prequel, about those characters, in this time period and about this story. I, for example, am terrified about wrecking or retconning already solidified canon. I don't like the idea of a teenage love story drama. I don't think narrators fit silver screen, for me, they should stay in the written form. I don't like experiments with form. I'm afraid it's going to be either extremely boring or just John's part boring. Or that they will go on with some cameos that make no sense story-wise, but appeal to the fans. Or that we will have another "amnesia trick" just to justify why John doesn't know about the supernatural later on. Also, I don't like either Mary or John, personality-wise. There is a lot of things that may go wrong. There is many things they can do wrong. But for now, it's all that... "a pitch", "can", "may". We know almost nothing about it. It doesn't sound good, but it's not there yet. Let's raise our concerns but at the same time, let's wait and see. Jensen, Danneel and Robbie decided to take on a big challenge, but they can surprise us and actually deliver something better than what we imagine now.(edited)
Anonymous 5:
I’m excited for the Prequel. I trust Jensen, Dee, and Robbie. I know that all of the people to blame for the trash fire finale are not involved (and that may include Jared) and I know that Jensen knows Dean more than anyone else and he cares so much for him and Supernatural as a whole. He has spoken on John in a way that demonstrates he knows he was a shitty abusive father as has lines written by Robbie expressed that. I don’t believe for a second that Renee Reiff or Danneel would be happy to just promote heteronormativity either. We don’t know what they have planned. We don’t know beyond the barest of bones for the concept. I really want to see where it goes.
Anonymous 6:
I agree with so many others that John Winchester is not a character I have any interest in learning more about. If you take everything we know about him from the entire canon of the show, he is a very unlikable person. If the show moves forward, I think that there is only one way to view this to go into it with a somewhat open mind. What I will do is to focus on Matt Cohen's version of John. That version of John was not abusive or neglectful of his children. So if the show gets a greenlight to be made, I will rewatch Matt's episodes, and think about the fact that I am going to be learning more about that guy, and that guy only.
Anonymous 7:
I’m personally excited for the prequel despite and maybe even a little because of the premise. I mean, I don’t support child abuse anymore than I support serial killers, but I still watched Psycho. I think there’s a lot of potential to develop complex and layered characters when they’re extremely flawed. John Winchester isn’t exactly Father of the year but he didn’t set out to be what he became, and I think seeing his descent makes for a compelling idea; consider Walter White in Breaking Bad for example. And honestly, I think if we as a fandom can forgive Rowena for literally attempting to kill her son on multiple occasions, admitting to never loving him, and basically neglecting him as a kid, we can at least give the prequel a chance. Also, I need to know what the hell happened to John’s mother, cause they really just glossed over that in the series.

I think the whole pureblood supremacy and redemption talk is actually so very important to have considering our real life social world right now. There’s still so much real life racism, classism, homophobia, misogyny, etc. Draco was in the same spot that many young people are in today. He was born and raised in a very bigoted home and grew up in an environment (Slytherin/Death Eaters) that continued to fuel these beliefs. He’s the perfect example of how badly young people need to detach from their family and form their own beliefs. So many in the fandom just want to see him as this a-hole kid who was fully aware of what he stood for and had no redemptive qualities whatsoever. While this interpretation is fine (people are allowed to think whatever) I think it would’ve left a much bigger impact if Draco was given the opportunity to be on his own—away from his family (and Voldemort)—and put in a position where his views are tested. That’s what a lot of us end up doing in fanfic! Too often antis focus solely on Draco’s bullying and use that as a reason for why Draco doesn’t deserve to grow and be a better person. They get mad because they see this kid who tormented the trio for years and just so happened to ALSO be raised in a bigoted household and they want to keep him in this box where he’s only ever seen as bad and any who say differently are automatically wrong. This happens irl. You hear stories of people who grew up in bigoted families, cults, hell even the KKK! And people have changed! You hear these miracle stories of former hate group members renouncing their old ways and becoming supportive and activists for the other side! And isn’t this the narrative that we should be striving to achieve?? Isn’t this the thing that we need to see more and spread more to help heal the world?? But yet you still have people that just want to see how someone once was and refuse to see anything beyond. I’m aware Draco didn’t get a full arc so it’s harder for fans to accept, but again, that’s what fanon is for!!! I just don’t understand why antis are so against fans wanting to see Draco redeem himself? Because where I’m standing, taking a character that was created with potential and then furthering that plotline to create a story filled with work, redemption, forgiveness, and healing is far more interesting and thought provoking than just reducing the character to “a playground bully” and nothing more.
But the thing is, technically in canon he did redeem himself. He changed his views, he married a woman who also didn’t believe in the whole pureblood nonsense, he specifically raised his child to not be like him.
But people refuse to accept it because it was spoken about after the series ended. I mean JKR herself said these things, she published it on Pottermore, it’s CANON.
So he did change, he did renounce his ways, he is a better person now.
But you are right, they want to put him into this little “evil” box and refuse to listen to actual canon, and condemn anyone who wants to read and write anything positive about him. These people need to grow up. They are doing way more harm than good with these views of the world.

@fall-on-demand
I feel like keeping those 2 scenes separate would be challenging bc the "girls who like slashfic" scene is a huge generator of trans mascs. a ton of dudes + nbs i know cracked their eggs by being "fujoshis" in those spaces / speaking of which, a hugely popular slash fanartist in my current fandom just came out as a "he/they" person after ID-ing as a woman for a while, we cracked another one lads
@werewolftrial
I understand why you'd want this but agree with f-o-d. I definitely spent time feeling guilty because I felt I had an inappropriate relationship to content about gay/bi men. So it's tricky. Though I know you're not advocating to do away with slash fic, just wishing you didn't have to interact with a culture centered around the desire of another group
This is a very fair criticism, and certainly me promoting a sort of shaming(?) isn't helpful to anybody.
However, it's on my mind because I feel like being around this sort of thing was detrimental to me. In terms of like:
it took me longer to figure out I was experiencing something different
it's made it harder not to see oneself through that lens, and want to try and fit yourself into those moulds
it made it harder to take my desires seriously as more than an imaginative space
it was extremely troubling to discover people I was close to in hobby spaces were having such a different experience of it, like when you’re using this as a closet outlet for something where the stakes are so high for you, and you realise everyone around you (even people you have trusted with things that are vulnerable) has a far more trivial engagement, or even a fetishising one
on the one hand, as people are very keen to state, fandom is or can be a very queer-friendly space, so we all end up in the slash fandom because it's a rare safe place in a world without any other outlet or representation
but because of that, it is ultimately quite important that this representation is predominantly by/for women, overwhelmingly by/for straight people, and frequently by/for teenagers
as opposed to something rooted in lived experience which might actually be helpful or relateable or reflective
But this isn’t wholly a counter-argument, because there’s not a way to do this which doesn’t ultimately make the very closeted people who are most sensitive to conversations about maleness/transness to feel ashamed. And like, I don’t want to make cishet creators/consumers of slash feel ashamed or like they’re doing something wrong either. I am very pro people having fantasies.
(And besides, the whole core problem here is a total lack of good mainstream representation - one can hardly blame fandom for failing to fill that gap. It shouldn’t be the job of hobbyists who want to play in their fave sandbox and squee and write for fun and especially not the job of teenagers, to fix that. Part of the problem is that the overlap of social justice and fandom spaces is kind of, overpromising? Like, “we write for fun and self expression, not politics” is a far more pure and honest and nourishing attitude IMO)
I suppose it’s, back to the activist basics of wanting to promote media “by us”,  because it is more nourishing to the soul than seeing oneself through the “oppressors” frameworks. Without denigrating fandom as a space, because there are a lot of queer people and good writers, I would like to be able to say a little louder “don’t mistake this for actually reading your history, don’t mistake these tropes as anything other than pleasurable tropes, mix this up with books by actual gay and bi men who are adults” and so on.
Because ultimately, if you’re on more of the man-definitely-a-man side of the transmasc experience, getting yourself (psychologically) out of women-centric frameworks of thinking about yourself is a huge struggle; what Lavery calls “achieving lesbian escape velocity”. You know, getting to that point where you feel entitled to claim space as a queer man - its a challenge, but it’s also a choice you have to keep making. & so like, part of me does genuinely want to say - if you think you’re some kind of trans and male, consciously take a step back from this media and a step towards things written by men like you.
But disclaimer, this is more the place I am with my process than like, a Rule for others, I know that other people are having more positive experiences & that’s fine.

fic/writing commissions for donations
edit: commissions have been closed!
hey all -- i’ve decided to do writing commissions in exchange for donations to antiracism and protest-related orgs.
donate to ...
george floyd’s memorial fund
reclaim the block
black visions collective edit: both reclaim the block and black visions collective have requested that, due to the outpouring of support, donations go toward other MN activist groups listed here!
BLM national or any local BLM branch
any of the antiracism ground groups listed in this tweet posted by the chicago bail bond fund
any of the bail funds in this doc, or this excellent split bail fund
the gofundme for SacDelux, a black-owned business affected by the protests, or any of the affected businesses listed in this post
... and i will write you something! specs:
i’ll write at least (and probably more than) 100 words for every $5 donated. no ceiling! if you donate $500 to one of these orgs then hell yes, i will absolutely write you 10,000 words.
i’ll write any fandom or pairing on my FFnet or AO3, and will try most anything else if i know the characters.
would prefer to steer clear of really explicit smut though
if it’s not on my ffnet/ao3, message me first to make sure i can do the fandom you want!
i can also write extra scenes or snippets from any of my books. or AU fics based on the books. anything goes.
open-prompt original fiction is also fine, you can definitely send me a vague concept or prompt and i’ll cook something up.
send me proof of donation by emailing me at rileyredgate@gmail and include what you want me to write! your fic will be on ao3 soon!
i have taken this idea directly from @yeats-infection - her post is here and her writing is wonderful, so if you’ve got the cash, why not donate twice and commission her as well?
feel free to boost/reblog, but if you’re a writer or an artist and you’ve got the bandwidth, i will also reiterate the challenge to start your own fundraiser! we can do more together!

Wait what was the mess with Ilia/queer representation? I don't usually look into these things so I probably didn't hear or see people talking about it
Happy to explain! First, the obligatory disclaimer: Ilia is a complicated case and, like anything else in RWBY, her place in the show is very much up to interpretation. I think her character arc, particularly in relation to her status as a queer character, is an absolute mess but I know others are of the opposite opinion. Many of the “flaws” I point out are perceived as her greatest strengths. So it’s subjective.
That being said, I wrote a little bit about this during Volume 5 when it was all going down. A simplified list of the primary issues includes:
Introducing your first, long-awaited queer character as a villain (even a sympathetic one)
“Redeeming” her in the span of one episode in a way that provides no punishment/responsibility/growth in the face of the horrific acts she committed
This character is left behind by the story at the end of the volume, presumably never to be seen again outside of, perhaps, a final battle that includes the whole cast
Tying her queerness directly to her villainy
It’s this last point that I take the most issue with. See, the fandom is right to point out that Ilia has motivations for her actions established throughout the volume, namely the death of her parents and the general racism that is still pervading Remnant. Ilia says multiple times throughout Volume 5 that this is why she’s going after Blake and her family. Because she honestly believes that they are a threat to the faunus’ progress. However, just because a character says something doesn’t make it true. Take Yang in the same season. She says she doesn’t want/care if Blake ever comes back to the group, which anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the show knows is BS. Rather, Yang’s emotions are functioning on multiple levels. A part of her really doesn’t want Blake to return because she’s still furious with her, whereas a larger part of her wants them to reconcile. Now, apply that logic to Ilia. It’s absolutely true to say that she’s motivated by activism and the death of her parents, however, her confrontation with Blake reveals that this isn’t the only reason for her attack. It is, arguably, not even the primary reason. Ilia gives a speech about how they need to be doing more for the faunus, how she doesn’t like to hurt people but she can’t deny that it has gotten them results. Yet when Blake challenges this part of her identity - you’re not a killer - the conversation unexpectedly takes a turn. When pushed to explain how she became this way Ilia does not reiterate her thoughts on racism or the trauma of her parents’ deaths. Instead, she starts talking about her unrequited feelings for Blake:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suddenly, Ilia’s motivations have changed. Or rather, they’ve become more complicated. Both sets of motivations exists, but this is the one she admits to under duress, framing it as more “true” than what she’s been saying prior to this conversation. Now, Ilia shows personal motivations rather than just the generically good rhetoric of I Want To End Racism Because It’s Bad. Having Blake down on her knees, shipping her off to Adam, and killing her parents is explicitly connected to the (perceived) problem of, “You didn’t love me.”  Blake is positioned as responsible for who Ilia became: You want to know why I’m like this? You were too busy looking at Adam. I wanted you to look at me that way but you didn’t. That’s how I learned that we can’t always get what we want. So now you don’t get to have what you want (your parents’ safety, distance from Adam). You get to feel what I felt when you didn’t love me back. When Blake poses the question of, “Why are you like this?” Ilia’s answer is “Because I’m queer, have unrequited feelings, and that taught me that life sucks. Now I’m returning the favor.”
Suddenly, Ilia’s actions are removed from the (already ethically dubious) logic of treating Blake this way because she believes it will help the faunus in the long run and instead are implied to stem from a desire to punish her for not reciprocating those feelings. In this moment Ilia moves from a misguided activist-turned-terrorist and instead becomes a misguided lesbian seeking revenge. She might not admit it - she never explicitly says that she’s punishing Blake for not loving her - but that’s the implication by taking the conversation in this direction; by having Ilia answer with her sexuality rather than her activist views. By drawing such an overt connection between these actions and Ilia’s admission, these things - the impending death of Blake’s parents, kidnapping her, sending her back to her abuser - are framed as things that she “deserves” according to Ilia. If you’d just looked at me with love from the start we never would have ended up here. This falls into a number of horrible tropes including, but not limited to, The Predatory Gay, The Psycho Lesbian, and The Queer Character Falling For Their (Presumably) Straight Friend.
Now, the takeaway here is not “You can never write villainous queer characters.” More often than not any statement beginning with “You can never write ____” is going to be a bad take. Indeed, there are tons of queer/queer coded villains who I adore. That doesn’t mean I want media to perpetuate that long, stereotyped history though. “But Clyde,” the world says. “That doesn’t make any sense. How can you both want and not want this setup?” To which I respond with the iconic words of Jane Lynch:
Tumblr media
People’s identities are made up of multiple parts and those parts can read the same writing choice in different ways. As a queer person who loves the ~drama~ of a flamboyant villain I want that entertainment (like Watts). As a queer person who is disgusted by the implications tied to that trend (you’re evil, you’re unnatural, you’re sick, you deserve to be punished, to be killed) I don’t want to see our only queer character be a villain. Which is what Ilia was at the time of her reveal. She was all we had and we didn’t know if RT would ever going to give us anyone else. That was just awful to watch and worry about. It didn’t make me happy. Which sounds like a shit thing to say - This isn’t your story! It doesn’t cater to you! - but after years of waiting for queer rep it felt like a kick in the teeth to get this character in this way and leave her behind when we had a cast of five main women right there, any of which could have been queer. Ilia’s reading was made worse by the lack of rep surrounding her, but to be frank things haven’t improved much. I adore Saphron and Terra, I think they were really well done as characters, but they’re still very minor characters and we can’t ignore that, like Ilia, they were left behind by the story. Blake and Yang are not canon yet, leaving all the hints at their relationship sitting in the limbo of, “Is this just queer baiting?” If you’re someone who pays attention to queer coding, a lot of queer-coded men have been killed off in this show (Roman, Ozpin, Clover). We supposedly have one trans character… whose identity thus far only exists in a tweet.
Tumblr media
Kudos to RT for hiring a trans voice actor - they absolutely deserve recognition for that - but it’s still not enough in this day and age. It’s 2020. Queer coding, queer minor characters quickly shuffled off screen, and queer “rep” in the form of paratextual info simply doesn’t fly. We decided that in the most vocal terms possible during the Harry Potter era, a fandom that took over most of the world and, thus, had one hell of an impact on media going forward. No, it’s not rep if you say Dumbledore is gay in an interview but never work that into the story. It’s not rep if you say May is trans on Twitter but don’t work that into the story. Not unless both characters are supplemental additions to a canon already filled with a variety of queer rep. “It’s so cool that this character is also queer! I get why you didn’t have time to work that in, so it’s a good thing we have those five other characters to identify with.” RT might do that in the future. Blake and Yang might become canon in Volume 8. May might be confirmed in the show. Saphron and Terra might unexpectedly arrive to become a part of the story again. We simply don’t know. But as of right now Ilia is one of only three in-canon queer characters out of a cast of ten bajillion (approximately lol) and out of those three she is the only one who was developed into a well-rounded character. That means nearly the entirely of RWBY’s rep rests on her shoulders. I think her queerness is fine for a cast already full of queer characters. There it functions as good diversity - “Some lesbians do join extremist groups and blame unrequited love for their murder plans!” - rather than representation for lesbians/queer people as a whole - “It’s a good thing we have these three other heroic lesbians in RWBY to balance out the message Ilia sends!” But since we don’t have that the takeaway is just what we’ve seen for decades: Queer characters are villains. Queer characters are violent and predatory. Queer characters are written out of the show.
Historically, Ilia’s characterization has problems on its own, but those problems were very much exacerbated by making her the first and, at that point, only queer rep. I - and no doubt others - would have been far more receptive to her as representation if we’d already gotten queer heroes prior to her introduction. And again, that’s a preference. Some fans want more queer villains as a way to say, “Anyone can be queer.” For me though, I’ve seen enough Ilias throughout my life. I’ve seen enough versions of my identity painted as unwanted and dangerous. I was expecting RWBY to do better and I hope that they will do better in the future.

these CA claims coming to the front suddenly surprises me... I didnt expect kpop fans to be ready to talk about seeing as how they're so biased... and anyone denying it is lying cuz hello stanning means you're inherently biased... multi fandoms are biased to all the ones they stan versus the ones they dont... so raising awareness within a fandom culture that depends on how much money you spend and literally places a worth on somebody's looks more than their skills... is very weird... I'm not saying kpop stans only stan based on looks but it's like 80% of the reason .. and it's fine it's literally a visual based form of entertainment so I dont see it as a problem what I'm trying to come to terms with is the contradictions... I dont know why people expect kpop to be aware about EVERY SINGLE ISSUE IN EVERY COUNTRY and be able to address every single one of them.. I also have not seen any good examples of borrowing inspiration from other cultures in a respectable way so I'm not sure it exists... and you know the people producing all these programs have been born and raised in one country so they're not exactly globally aware... like the idols interact with international fans all the time.. so if they do something wrong they should be held accountable but how are you going to hold all the production houses and editors responsible when they have no knowledge or obligation to come out and correct their mistakes. this post is very all over the place let me summarise.
1. Cultural appropriation - those who feel offended have a right to feel that way, but stop imposing those opinions on people who are not offended. again, if you're not offended just dont talk about it at all. everyone cannot have the same opinion on something. So those who are offended, go talk to the artist, do your thing, raise awareness, stop stanning whatever. It's your choice. Don't guilt trip others cuz you're borderline bullying.
2. Specifically about finding skz, some people dont want mnet to produce content for skz at all and want them to produce their own content. uhmm if big production houses (no matter how much you hate them) are producing content for your idols please appreciate the time and effort that goes into it. If you see them doing something wrong, please raise it and if you don't want to watch their content don't that's fine. But it's not easy to raise the brand awareness of a certain group and if you take a step back and look at the idnividuals who've all worked together to create variety shows or reality programs, you wouldn't be able to ask them to quit would you? Think things through before you say them. If mnet didnt produce who would? Idols would get no exposure. Is mnet fucked up. Yes. obviously. I suggest redirecting your anger to more productive things because if they stopped the kpop idols you love so much would make no livelihood.
3. for everyone's mental health please take time off social media to drink some water, go hiking, take a walk... anything... for those struggling with inner demons please don't emotionally depend on popular culture to fix everything... especially now when people have too much time to complain and criticize it can actually make you feel worse so it's okay to stop, it's okay to take a breather and it's okay to not respond to everything you see on social media. Dont feel obligated to do anything that doesn't come naturally to you. Even if its voting, streaming whatever. if you want to do it it's a choice, really. I'm not excusing laziness, but this constant bullying culture I'm seeing online made me realise the importance of someone saying--
It doesn't matter. All of it doesn't matter. be humble, be fair, be aware of the problems society is facing. remember to always question your biases and stereotypes. you dont have to be an activist if you dont want to.
It's okay for you to disagree with this post. but i think I want to be honest on this tumblr. these are my opinions. and if they disappoint you, I'm sorry you can unfollow.

Hi! I already had searched into the resources of the library and AO3, with multiple combination of tags, and I couldn't find this fic. Modern!Steve was a sex worker that worked from his apartment and most of the fic is them in apartment, i think they text as well, towards the middle/ ending of the story bucky(winter soldier/veteran) asked steve out, and asked help from steve's friends(maybe sam) to make the date more special. i think he ended up buying himself new clothes, and flowers for steve.

hi I'm looking for a misplaced fic about bucky relearning about sex. I remember him doing research and sending porn videos to pepper and then steve says they have to wait 3 months before they have sex. Would love it if anyone can help out!

(i tried sending this earlier but it glitched so i’ll try again) i’m tryna find a stucky fic (obvi) where the avengers catch bucky and have him locked in tony’s vacation house. they call steve to come calm bucky down because buck won’t let bruce check his bullet wound. (steve has been going through real bad mental stuff.) the only orher part i remember is that bucky cuts out a tracker in his rib because he doesn’t want anyone to touch him, and he also sews it up by himself. it’s a cute fic, help

I was wondering if you guys knew the endgame Stucky fix it fic where Steve decided to stay behind but realizes that he’s in love with Bucky while he’s with Peggy and watches as Bucky falls in love with someone else (who dies later on) and regrets not being with him. Thank you!

Hi! I am desperate to find a fic I originally found here and lost. I remember 2 scenes but can’t remember anything from the description. It was post TWS. Sam and Steve trying to find Bucky. At one point they caught up to him and they were surrounded by people trying to get Buck and he asked Steve to shoot him if they grabbed him and at a later scene Bucky pointed a gun at Sam so they wouldn’t take him to a hospital then turned it on himself to make Steve comply. Does that sound familiar at all?

Hi! It’s like 2am and I’ve read this fuc twice before so I know it’s exists. It’s super short and it’s Nat’s perspective and her wanting to throw a Christmas party so they do and there’s minimal Stucky and Clintasha and they mention Thor being Santa Claus. I’ve been looking everywhere but I don’t know why I can’t find it. Thank you so much in advance.

There's this story I've been looking for when Bucky was in a band with Nat, Nat's husband/boyfriend(?), and Clint. And Bucky lost his arm after dropping a speaker or something when Nat's husband has a heart attack or something and dies? I know it's a very vague description, sorry

Hi~ I've tried all the ways I can think of to look for this fic.. As far as I remember, Steve is an omega and Bucky is an alpha (but he can't remember it bc he's brainwashed) Steve suspects someone has been rummaging on his apartment bc of misplaced papers until one day he sees Bucky in his window. Steve's like.. How are you alive are you ok?? But when he makes sudden movements he leaves. They are like that until Bucky is sitting on his couch and then his heat hits. Thank you so much beforehand

Hello! Please help me find the fic where Steve wakes up one day looking for Bucky (Established Relationship) and all the other Avengers cant remember Bucky at all and its because someone who was wronged by the Winter Solider went back in time and killed him before Steve found him in the 21st century. Thanks so much for all you do!

I've been looking for a shrunkyclunks fic but can't seem to find it anywhere. Buckyhas some kind of respitory issue from his military days and works restoring books and things. Antiques? Steve is Captain America, and they meet during/soon after the events of the first Avengers movie. Bucky has to wear a special mask to filter dust, and Stark eventually makes him new ones that do the same thing, but better. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I'm looking for this one fic that I read a long time ago, it's one where the avengers think Steve is being abused by Bucky and start acting strange around them, but Steve and Bucky think they found out their kinks or something like that. The main thing I remember from it is that there was no actual abuse in the fic, just misunderstandings

Maybe you guys could help me-- I remember a fic where Bucky was a siren and Steve was a human (later he shows up as a mermaid with no memory of Bucky) and he told Bucky that he shouldn't be ashamed of himself because "Mother Nature cares about him enough to give him the tools he needs to survive" or something like that. Thanks in advance for the help! I appreciate all the things your team does for the fandom! :)

This is really vague but it's literally all I can remember, so if you can't find it it's totally fine. All that I can remember is that for some reason Bucky had to leave at Steve's house, (maybe he worked there? Idk) who is like super rich? Maybe he does something illegal? And like at the beginning Steve is kind of detached and cold towards Bucky so it takes a while for them to start a relationship. Natasha is there? This is the most vague shit ever, I'm sorry, but I can't get it out of my head

For every ✍ I get in my inbox, I will reveal a pet peeve I have about rp.
Tumblr media
I have a bit of a history with custom militaries in RP to the point where I very very rarely will RP with them anymore. Militias, small private orders, guilds, etc. are all fine, but if you have a full-scale organized military, I’m probably not going to interact with it. For those who want the long version, check the break.
Custom organizations in RP tow a line for me. On the one hand, there’s plenty of room to add things like companies, religions, non-profits, activist groups, and all manner of entities that can add some fun fleshing out to characters and stories.
That said, they can also be just as bad, if not worse than OCs with outrageous status or capabilities that push the limits of the lore. This is particularly true with things that are added in the large scale such high ranking officials in custom nations or organizations where the player is basically trying to put their character on a level of authority equal to some of the most influential movers and shakers of a setting. I really hate this because unless your organization can have a justifiable place inside the existing setting’s world framework it really shouldn’t be there; and for some reason it’s always custom military entities. In nearly two decades of RPing I have yet to encounter a custom military organization in any fandom I liked because they always did the same irritating things and always wound up with very few consistent writing partners as a result.
Tumblr media
I don’t know if this is just the fact that creating a custom military immediately gives players a sense of power and influence they have complete control over, or if I’ve just had utterly horrid luck with these but every single damn time I’ve ever encountered a custom military organization, no matter the fandom, seems to do the same irritating things. If it’s not a semi-autonomous “special elite” sub-organization that reaps all the benefits of a canon military while not listening to its rules and regulations, it’s an outside force either from a neighboring (commonly custom) nation. Either way, I always see characters from said organization:
Act as if they have full civil and legal authority no matter where they are though some treaty contrivance.
Utterly ignore, disrespect, order around, or otherwise bad mouth members of whatever canon army exists.
Act as if they both have the right to take full command of whatever they’re cooperating with other units with and/or treat any orders or attempts to actually foster any sense of communication be turned down in favor of more order shouting from someone who realistically should have no authority over someone else’s troops.
Any comments, questions, or criticisms being met with consistent threats that aren’t actually enforceable unless they insist on it OOC.
Now all of these are just shitty RP behaviors in general. Rampant disrespect of other people’s muses for little reason, insisting on having full authority over the situation to the point of ignoring the other player’s wishes for the scene, and
Sometimes the player will even bad mouth or criticize the implementation of whatever canon military is in place (whether or not said player was ever actually in the military tends to be a toss up) to the point of it being kind of obnoxious.
Tumblr media
I know this sounds really specific but for whatever reason this has been every custom military in RP I’ve ever encountered. I still wouldn’t say the problem is the concept but I’ve yet to see it done well.
