Thinking about how Diavolo’s feelings transcend time and how in the Nightbringer UR+ card Demon Lord’s Castle Tour this conversation happens.
When asked, “Do you wish to see your father?”
Diavolo responds:
“I suppose I do . . .” isn’t the typical reaction to how a child would feel about wanting to see their parent. Especially when said parent has essentially been in a coma for a year.
Along with how Diavolo describe his father.
It makes more sense why when you learn in Lesson 56 how Diavolo was treated by him growing up.
Diavolo can tell when others are lying but is unable to understand his father’s intentions.
Diavolo mentions that he lived a very sheltered life growing up. That from a young age his father never allowed him a chance to talk to anyone outside the castle.
His childhood friend was Mephistopheles. A demon literally RAISED to be his friend. Putting a barrier between the two because Mephistopheles would put Diavolo on a pedestal.
The isolating childhood he experienced riddled with his strict father constantly scolding him.
Despite everything MC is so important to him he wants to see his father again so we can meet.

Kinktober day 2: Praise
“Look at you” she smiles “so soft and pretty” I blush and look away, suddenly hyperaware of all my flaws. “Ah ah, look here” her elegant fingers grip my chin and pull me back to meet her eyes. My friend glances for an instant at my roommate behind me and they must have some sort of understanding because his hand moves from my hips where he was keeping my balanced on his lap, lightly teasing over my cunt. I shift, seeking more pressure, but the hand not on my jaw pushes me back by the stomach.
“It seems like you need some help with your self esteem honey. So tonight you don’t come until we think you understand how good you are for us. What a pretty man you are” my roommate stops his hand altogether and I can’t help but shift and whine. He laughs then teases “how lovely those little noises you make are” he grinds his hips up
“See how hard you already made me. If you do a good enough job for us you can have it. We’ll fuck you until you forget your own name, until you only answer when we call you a good boy”
I squirm and groan but they have me pinned and for all the burning humiliation I want to hear it. I want them to tell me how good I am, I want them to mean it. So I nod.
“Good”, she strokes up my stomach “now tell me what you like about your body”
Oh they are mean, cruel, making me say it. But the heat of his hand is burning over my cunt so I force myself to think.
“I. I like my chest, the surgery worked, it’s just how I want it now” I start “I like the scars” her hand drifts up to squeeze my chest at the same time that he begins to stroke again and I gasp.
“You’re so right” she murmurs, kneading the muscle there “you made yourself just right. What else?”
“My, um, my thighs are nice and soft I guess” it’s safe, I know they like them, even though the dimples of skin aren’t my favorite. “Very” he laughs, and pinches hard at the inside of my thigh. Suddenly I’m much wetter than before, and it doesn’t go unnoticed. She grins and bites down on the other side.
Soon they have me gasping and squirming forcing me to praise myself to earn my pleasure. Every time they agree, rewarding me with kisses and bruises, strokes on my cock and fingers in my holes. Until I’m so delirious with it that I don’t notice I’m the only one talking.
“I’m so good for you, I’m so pretty!” I whine, like I’m begging for something “I’m strong and soft in all the right places! I make you so hard and wet and I take you so well! I’m so good, please, I deserve to feel good I deserve it. Please please please!!!”
They’ve kept me on edge, stuck between them, for so long. It’s a shock when she yanks my legs forward, tilting my hips higher, and thrusts into my hole without pause. It takes barely anything for my to come, wet and whimpering, and she keeps going until she finishes too, sweet words from them both dizzying my head. The instant she pulls out my knees are pulled back and my shoulders forward and he is pressed against my clenching hole. Her fingers grab my chin again and she whispers against my lips.
“Say it honey, what are you?”
“I’m a good boy” I gasp “I’m so hot, I should always feel this good” I’m rewarded with a sweet kiss and a cock slamming into my hole
“That’s it” she coos over his grunts and my groans
“and don’t worry honey, if you forget, we’ll just keep reminding you”

I don't like DDLC'S MC very much on a very petty level but I still wish there was more fic or meta speculation about him. I'm not interested in him as a character, though, because he's barely a character. Literally by the game's standards, he has no inherent "character file." He is the SCRIPT, if anything. All of his thoughts and actions occur within the little text bubble at the bottom of the screen, and so do the characters'. He barely appears in CGs, has no body sprite, and it is through his observations and his thoughts and his call to make choices that the game progresses.
I think that specific trait of MC is fascinating, especially given how deep reaching Monika's manipulation is. During Act 1 he is active, he is talkative, he has a definitive (and yet inconsistent, based on which girl(s) you're speaking to) personality. He has thoughts about just about everything going on. And yet in Act 2 he is reduced to dust. He stops having any kind of commentary and he almost never remarks upon the horrible occurrences around him unless prompted or unless it is something that could plausibly happen in the realm of reality, like Yuri abandoning him for 10 minutes and Natsuki collapsing on him. But even then he's still significantly muted. Yuri and Natsuki have a horrible fight and the only kind of response he tries to throw out is co-opted by Monika. He witness Yuri declare her love for him and talk about how she would love to pull his skin open and crawl inside of him and the only thing he has to say is "yes" or "no" when she asks if he likes her back. And then he physically cannot move or speak or react because the world is so far gone that Yuri's death has damaged him, the script, so much that all he hears is gibberish coming from her lifeless mouth.
And like... that's neat to me. I like that by the end of Act 2 the script is so off the rails and so far gone from reality that MC can no longer really function as a person, because the script is barely functioning. He stops reacting to anything happening around him and most of the conversations he has are just the girls talking at him. Monika has to literally rewrite the script and force Yuri and Natsuki to say things to further her agenda or keep the scene rolling. MC had a clear and very human response to Sayori's death because it was a plausible but horrible (and not forced) event that could happen naturally. Yuri's death was so jarring and away from the scope of the natural order of his world that MC (and Yuri, by extension) can only sit frozen and broken until Natsuki and Monika show up to force new progress.
Like Monika's effect on the girls has been talked to death and it is an interesting topic but I also think what she unintentionally did to the POV character of the game is also something neat. It really adds to the feeling of the world in DDLC being hollow. The MC is a half-character who can only react in incredibly predictable ways, and when the world stops being predictable, he stops being anything more than a walking camera for Monika to speak into.

I gotta say, as much as I normally sympathize more with Reo, reading chapter 13 of epinagi and rereading the main manga at the same time makes me feel for Nagi, too.
Seeing just how often Nagi's thoughts go to Reo, his reasons for snapping at him after the 3v3 makes so much more sense. In Nagi's narration, it's obvious that he holds a lot of respect to Reo as a player, other than a friend. Every time he faces a challenging opponent or sees a great play, his mind always goes to him. When he's not wishing to show Reo all these amazing things, he's reminding himself and others that they must keep challenging strong opponents to justify having left Reo behind. One way or another, their promise is always very present in his mind, and he's giving it his all to make it come true.
But then they run into each other in the baths and Reo is acting suddenly cold. He doesn't want to hear about Nagi's efforts, and he calls him a rival. It would be so easy to take offense to that, to assume—like Reo did—that the other has forgotten about their promise. But it's not here that Nagi's temper snaps. Instead, he takes it in stride, and actually looks kind of fired up for the chance of facing a Reo who will go all out. After all, Nagi understand wanting to take on strong guys, and through this and other subtle details, it's shown that in his mind Reo is still very much one of them. I'd say that he perceives Reo as an equal, if not strictly a teammate at present. This is especially clear when Nagi's first impulse is to still pick him as his first choice when they win. We've established that Nagi doesn't let sentimentality get in the way of having the best shot at achieving his dream (think of the pep talk he gives to Bachira about leaving him behind if he doesn't step up even if he and Isagi are close). So, all of this to say: Nagi speaks with his actions, and he chooses Reo for Reo's skills, not for his attachment to him as a friend. He respects him.
But he respects their dream more, in the end. Just like how he left with Isagi not by any fault of Reo's own, but to examine his own drive for football, Nagi once again makes the choice that would best result in bettering his plays. Not because he doesn't care, but because he's that serious about it, actually.
Again, Reo doesn't make the cut not because he lacks skills, but because his playstyle isn't compatible with the way Nagi's team is evolving. Reo would bring them balance because he's skilled and charismatic enough to singlehandedly whip up their mismatched chaos into a proper team. But being a team would make them worse players individually, and Nagi has enough maturity to know that's a step back for his own skills, not one forward. Not a single moment has passed by so far where he hasn't been putting his all towards fulfilling his end of the promise, or one where he hasn't had full faith in Reo in turn.
And then Reo, who has acted cold and standoffish all this time for seemingly no reason... Reo, who is so skilled but wants to be picked even if it means losing and possibly flunking out of the program, their best chance to get closer to the world cup... The same guy who swore they'd be best in the world, but whose efforts only stopped at winning in the first selection...
that Reo goes and accuses him of not giving a shit about their promise to each other.
I think I would've snapped back too
