a/n: surprise muthafuckas, im BAAAACK! did you all miss me? (probably not, its okay though 🥰 no hard feelings) it has been a hot minute since i have been writing smth, a lot was going on (acads wise) for me to sneak this in my sched but fortunately enough i now have the energy to write again! woohoo! just a little backstory with this fic; originally i wanted to post more of a horror, mysterious, thriller type fic w/ hongjoong in it but then after listening to So Tender on loop thanks to Nevertheless, my sleep deprived brain had come up with a plot that was based on the vibes of this song and so came my brain child which is this 😉... so um yeah, enjoy reading a slightly angsty joong with his baby film camera ❤️ and hi again
"You're a dickhead" "What's with that camera, weirdo?" "This guy probably got some demon inside of him to latch onto that old thing." "Asshole."
Hongjoong aggressively gets out of bed after the overlapping voices that constantly bombarded his mind. Old movie posters, off-white sheets, magazine cut-outs scattered on the wooden floor; yup he is definitely not dreaming he assured himself. He leans near his bedside to check the time on his phone; 7:30 A.M, still enough time to sleep. He plops back onto his position and stares dully at the blank space before drifting off into the abyss.
Alarm goes off, its 11:30. Hongjoong groans as the high-pitched shrieking of the ringtone resonates throughout the entire room. He grabs the phone to turn-off the alarm and after a few lazy attempts, he finally jumps out of bed. As he dragged his feet along the hall, the welcoming aroma of sausages and noodles wafting through the air instantly woke up Hongjoong's spirit as he neared the starting point of the savory smell. "There goes our number one champ, how did dreamland do for you today?" A chirpy voice welcomes the disgruntled Hongjoong in the kitchen while his back was turned and focused on the pan. "Same shit, different day." He replied with distaste. Wooyoung then swiftly flips the sausages and serves them up in the counter with a smile, signaling Hongjoong to eat up.
"Are you sure you don't wanna join with me and San? Hiking can do a lot to ease your mind." "Thanks, but I don't think hiking's enough to really fix something so complex as to what I am experiencing; besides, I'll just be a third-wheel to you both anyways so why bother joining in?" A sarcastic grin and two middle fingers standing strongly were enough for Hongjoong to shut up and keep his distance away from Wooyoung exploding. Hongjoong grabs out of his pocket a mini film camera; or as something he would call an "invaluable value". He props his elbows on the counter to get an eye-level shot of Wooyoung eating across the table and with a swift press of a button, the shutter goes off.
"Still got nothing?" Wooyoung asks concerningly, Hongjoong shakes his head in disappointment. Wooyoung clicks his tongue as he saw his friend fiddle around the camera while leaving the deepest sigh in the room. "It doesn't make sense to me, I'm literally the only person in this room who you trust more than yourself. And yet not even a single, simple moment can be captured?" "I've been asking that same question for more than a year Wooyoung, you think that I would have the fucking answer by now?" Hongjoong grits his teeth in annoyance. "If I did then I wouldn't rely on this stupid device to help me remember my family members, let alone what relationship I have with them." Wooyoung softens his posture as he watches Hongjoong slowly submerge in his emotions. As he tries to calm him down, Hongjoong gets up firmly and storms towards his room.
A few hours after the breakfast incident, Hongjoong gets out of the shower and ready himself for today's errands. "Already gone out with San, coming home around 9ish. Food's there in the fridge, just heat em up in the oven. Sorry for what happened in the kitchen, will make it up to you when you get back :)" Hongjoong scoffs at his roommate's note pasted on his door. "I'm sorry too for lashing out, I'll make it up to you." Hongjoong said in his mind as he proceeded to get dressed and head on out. Camera slung over his neck and a plastered smile, he heads on out to the busy city to begin his daily hustle.
Blaring sounds of car honks and rampant voices with colorful tones greeted Hongjoong as he walked towards the main building of his office; the hell-hole as he would like to refer to it. As Hongjoong takes a gander in the freezing lobby waiting for the elevator to come, he takes a look-see outside the window to lessen his boredom. From then he saw an old-time couple on the sidewalk, sharing an ice-cream cone and giggling like they were in their glory days. Hongjoong took out his film camera to try and attempt if he could capture such a sweet moment but before he could even take the perfect shot, he was greeted by a body slam of a young woman who just got out of the elevator who was seemingly rushing. “Oh my God, I am so sorry sir.” The lady helped Hongjoong get up and dusted off his camera. Hongjoong was enraged by this woman’s carelessness, but before he could even open his mouth to give her a good lecture she had already vanished. As Hongjoong cursed her out in his brain, he frantically viewed his camera to check its condition and if the lady stole any of his SD’s cards--- like there’s even something in them.
But there was.
It wasn’t the merry old couple he wanted to take a shot of, no not at all. But it was the blurry, candid shot of his encounter with the woman. With streaks of blurred colors and motions that only the lens could make sense of the situation. Hongjoong was appalled, never in the course of his time would his camera pick up a distinct memory to help him remember; not even his own birthday. He zooms in even more to try and take a good look into this woman but no visible figure could be found.
“Who the fuck are you?”

IRL Benchtrio Tickle Fic (creative, I know)
Welp, here you go! This is my first ever fic, and I’m actually kinda happy with how it turned out.
Summary: Ranboo’s staying with Tubbo in the UK, and Tommy goes over to visit them. However, Ranboo ends up finding himself in a,, mood, of sorts. He overthinks the situation too much and ends up freaking out, but luckily, he’s got two awesome friends who are there for him! (hurt/comfort)
~This is a tickle fic! If that’s not your thing, then move on please~
TW - Panic attack, self deprecating thoughts, let me know if I need to add anything else
Ranboo had been in the UK with Tubbo for a couple days now, and the two of them have been having a blast, the pure joy and excitement of finally getting to see each other in person had given them the energy to keep going constantly over the past two days, with them doing multiple streams and other activities. They had decided to meet up with Tommy that day, planning to record a vlog for Tommy’s vlog channel, but the past nights of practically no rest had caught up to the two, and when Tommy arrived at Tubbo’s house and saw how exhausted they appeared, he insisted they take the day to rest. They could record the vlog later, it wasn’t a big deal.
Of course, Tubbo and Ranboo immediately protested, but once Tommy made up his mind he was a force to be reckoned with. Eventually they settled to spend the day relaxing at Tubbo’s house, no cameras, and Ranboo had to admit, it was pretty nice. The three of them hadn’t had the chance to just talk without the stress of cameras being in their faces for quite a while, and they all needed the chance to just mess around and act like kids. No need to worry about carefully choosing their words to avoid any discourse.
Tommy was currently sitting in the chair at Tubbo’s desk, aimlessly spinning in circles as he recalled the events of the previous day, waving his hands around with an animated expression. Tubbo and Ranboo were seated on opposite ends of Tubbo’s bed, Tubbo laughing at Tommy’s over dramatic retelling of,,, something. Despite his best efforts, Ranboo couldn’t seem to pay attention to Tommy’s words. He told himself that he didn’t know what was causing his fidgety mood, but he knew he was lying to himself.
Earlier that day when Tommy first arrived, he shoved the door open with his usual flair, and loudly announced his arrival. Obviously excited to see him, Tubbo and Ranboo rushed over to greet him. Ranboo had instantly gathered Tommy up into a hug and held him close. And despite the show Tommy put up of not liking Ranboo, he latched onto the other as well, though of course not without poking fun at the other for being so eager to greet him, and a few playfully exchanged insults. That had been great, the thought brought a smile to his face. The part that had Ranboo squirming in his seat right now, was the way Tommy scribbled his nails into his sides after not being able to come up with a witty comeback to one of Ranboo’s playful jabs. It was brief, and after laughing at the squawk Ranboo let out good-naturedly, he dropped it. But, it was more than enough to send Ranboo’s brain spiralling into a lee mood, which only intensified as the playful atmosphere in the room continued.
Ranboo had told Tubbo before about this,,, liking of his before, and he had responded with only positivity, and he knew deep down that Tommy wouldn’t judge him either, but he still tried to forcefully shove the mood down, still telling himself that it was weird, and that Tommy and Tubbo would surely mock him if he admitted to them how he was feeling.
The only problem was, while Ranboo was lost in thought, the other two had noticed how unusually quiet he had been, and Tommy paused his storytelling, asking if he was alright. At the attention being turned to him, Ranboo froze up, and his nerves kicked in, but he still tried to play it off.
“I-I uhm, y-yeah, I’m fine.” Ranboo cursed himself for his lousy attempt to reassure them, and the other two clearly didn’t buy it.
“You sure, ‘Boo? If we’re doing something to make you uncomfortable, you can tell us.” Curse Tubbo for being so damn sweet, and those big, worried eyes that were carefully observing him. Ranboo fidgeted in place, refusing to make eye contact with either in the room. He was silent, getting increasingly frustrated with himself. Why couldn’t he come up with a response? Why did he have to be so bad at social interaction? This is so stupid for me to get worked up about, just say something!
As Ranboo remained silent, Tommy and Tubbo’s concern for him only grew, and Tommy pushed himself up from the chair he was sitting in. making his way over to sit on the bed next to him. Seeing how uncomfortable Ranboo seemed, they didn’t push him to talk anymore, and both shuffled around to sit on either side of him. Ranboo risked a glance to his side, and, catching his gaze, Tommy offered him a kind smile, slowly reaching out to softly grasp his hand. And, oh shit, Ranboo could feel that familiar burning behind his eyes, and he quickly pulled his knees up to his chest, burying his face into them. God, why were they always so sweet to him? He was getting so worked up and upset over a stupid mood, and couldn’t even manage to say anything to them! In his frustration with himself, the tears in his eyes began to overflow, and his breath hitched.
Tubbo pressed up closer to him, bringing his arms up to wrap around Ranboo, before he paused.
“Hey, ‘Boo, it's alright. Can I touch you?” Ranboo managed a nod at that, and Tubbo wrapped his arms around him, pulling him close. It was a little awkward with Ranboo being so much taller than him, but the embrace still served its purpose and Ranboo melted into his touch. Tommy brought his free hand up to Ranboo’s back, rubbing circles into it.
“Hey, Ranboo, it's okay. We’re here. Breathe with me, yeah?” He hadn’t even noticed how his breathing had sped up, but he allowed Tommy to guide him through the panic attack, as he counted their breaths, in and out, moving the hand on his back up and down along with the rhythm.
After a few minutes of counting and failed attempts, Ranboo had managed to considerably calm down. In that time, the three of them had managed to maneuver into a laying down position, both Ranboo and Tubbo practically laying on top of Tommy, nearly crushing him, but somehow, they were comfortable. After a couple more moments of them all breathing together, Tubbo broke the silence.
“Hey, ‘Boo, you think you could manage to tell us what happened? You don’t have to, but it would help Tommy and I be able to help you.” Ranboo took a deep, stuttering breath, before he opened his mouth to speak. His voice was rough and scratchy, but he pushed on anyway.
“I-Its stupid, really. I was just in a certain, u-uh,, m-mood, and got frustrated with myself. I-I’m fine, really, I was just upset that I couldn’t say what I was thinking.” Tubbo caught on to what Ranboo meant by “mood” pretty quickly, Ranboo having told him about it before. Tommy still didn’t know what he meant by that, but pushed on anyways, and spoke up.
“That's not stupid at all, not being able to say what you’re thinking can be really frustrating and scary. You did a great job just now, though, with telling us what happened, I’m proud of you for that.” Ranboo whined at the slight praise, though he couldn’t deny how Tommy’s words and reassurances made him feel better.
Tubbo forced himself to sit up, stretching his arms and rubbing his eyes.
“Why don’t we put on a movie? And, uh,, if you wanted to um,, do something about that mood, ‘Boo, we could. Or not! Whatever you’re comfortable with, I don’t wanna push you! We could just watch the movie!” Tubbo was hesitant to offer; not because he didn’t want to help Ranboo with his mood, oh no, he just didn’t wanna make him uncomfortable, or make him feel like he had to.
At the offer, Ranboo felt his face heat up. Wow, and to think that he could have just gotten that so easily. Ranboo pushed the mildly self-deprecating thought away, and shyly nodded in response, hiding his face in his hands. Tommy, still confused as ever, just watched their interaction, not saying anything.
Tubbo gently pulled one of Ranboo’s hands away from his face, offering him a reassuring smile.
“Is it alright if I explain to Tommy, ‘Boo? You know he would never judge you.” Ranboo looked away and nervously bit his lip, but nodded after a few moment’s hesitation, pulling his hand back. Tommy looked between the two, his confused expression growing concerned, both because he was worried this “mood” Ranboo was in was something bad, and because Ranboo had thought that he would judge him for it. Tubbo noticed Tommy’s concern, however, and was quick to set him straight as he guided Ranboo to lay down on the bed of his back.
“Don’t worry, Toms, it's nothing bad. Ranboo explained it to me over Discord one night. I’m pretty sure he called it a ‘lee mood,’ which basically just means that he's in the mood to be tickled!” Tubbo didn’t miss the flustered squeak that Ranboo let out when he said the word, and smiled fondly at him, even though Ranboo couldn’t see it, since he was covering his face.
Tommy, upon hearing that indeed nothing was wrong and this “mood” was something as sweet and innocent as that, instantly lit up.
“Awe, Ranboo, that's so sweet! There's nothing wrong with that at all! You want us to tickle you, big man? Is that alright?” Ranboo squeaked again, and thought this just may be the most flustered he's ever been, but it’s not a bad feeling. Definitely not.
He couldn’t even attempt to hide how happy Tommy’s positive response made him, and at the light, teasing tone in Tommy’s voice towards the end sent tingles down his spine. Unable to find his words, Ranboo just nodded in response, curling up slightly. He let out yet another squeak as he felt someone’s hands on his sides, unable to hold in his anticipatory giggles even though the hands weren’t even moving yet. He shyly peaked out from behind his hands to see who had placed their hands on him, only to immediately hide again as the other two cooed at his reaction.
“Giggling already, ‘Boo? I haven’t even done anything!” Ranboo shook his head in response, his giggles heightening in pitch.
“Dohohon’t tehehease!” Tubbo pouted playfully at Ranboo, not that he could see him.
“Awe, why not? It's fun teasing you, because I get to see your adorable little flush and hear your sweet giggles!” Ranboo only whined louder, causing both lers to laugh.
Tubbo began to lightly massage little circles into Ranboo’s sides where his hands were laying, occasionally scratching his nails into the sensitive skin. Ranboo, his sides being a fairly bad spot and already being wound up from the teasing and anticipation, let out an embarrassingly loud squeal, arching his back.
“Whoa, did you see that Toms? His sides must be sooo ticklish!” Tubbo snickered.
As much as he was enjoying watching Tubbo tickle Ranboo to bits, Tommy decided he was bored of just watching, and would find a spot as well. After a couple moments of consideration, Tommy fluttered his fingers over Ranboo’s neck, gasping excitedly at the squeaky giggles the spot produced. Ranboo shook his head back and forth and scrunched up his shoulders, still keeping his hands over his face.
“C’mon, ‘Boo, stay still for me, yeah? It’s hard for me to tickle you when you’re moving around all over the place.”
Ranboo still couldn’t believe this was actually happening, it had been such a long time since he’d been tickled, he honestly wasn’t sure where he was ticklish, or even if he was ticklish at all anymore.
So when Tommy’s fingers glided over his ears by accident, even he was surprised by the shrill shriek that he let out. The sound startled the other two into stopping for a moment, and Ranboo felt himself flush darker. He was about to start apologising when suddenly Tommy’s fingers were back to his ears, tracing his nails around the shells of them.
“Holy shit ‘Boo, I didn’t even know someone’s ears could be so ticklish,” Tommy giggled.
“SHUHut uhuhuhup!” Ranboo’s plea fell on deaf ears, as Tubbo picked up his tickling at Ranboo’s sides.
“No fair! How come Tommy gets the good spot?” Tubbo playfully complained, a childish pout on his face. Tommy let out his signature barking laugh, and stuck his tongue out at the other.
“Sucks to suck, bitch boy!” Tubbo just huffed in response, deciding to try out a different spot; maybe he could find a spot worse than his ears.
Ranboo would normally laugh at them and play along with their childish antics, but something about how they were talking about tickling him so casually was extremely flustering to him.
“Guhuhuys! NohoHOHO!” Tubbo’s fingers had pressed into the divots between Ranboo’s ribs, vibrating them in place. Ranboo threw his head back in laughter, his hands finally leaving his face to instead latch onto Tubbo’s wrists, though he didn’t push them away.
Tubbo grinned victoriously, flashing Tommy a cocky smirk as Ranboo began kicking his legs out underneath him. Tommy just growled in response, immediately searching for a new spot. He experimentally squeezed at Ranboo’s thigh, being rewarded with another hiccup, but not much else. Tommy pouted as Tubbo cackled at him, narrowing his eyes at the shorter.
“‘Sucks to suck,’ huh Toms?” Tubbo mocked, eyes lighting up as he reached Ranboo’s upper ribs, causing Ranboo to let out a louder hiccup than the others and a squeak.
Ranboo couldn’t even attempt to form proper words now, between how hard he was laughing and how flustered he was, and he was enjoying every second of it. After a bit longer, Tubbo began to slow down his fingers, allowing Ranboo to take a breather.
As Ranboo began to recover, Tommy smirked as he got an idea. He gracelessly shoved Tubbo off of Ranboo, earning him an undignified squawk from the shorter, before he sat himself on Ranboo’s hips and unleashed all ten of his fingers along his belly.
Ranboo jolted like he was electrocuted, not expecting the sudden attack, before snorting and falling into loud belly laughter. As Tommy crowed victoriously, Tubbo couldn’t even bring himself to be upset that he lost their little ‘competition,’ instantly cooing at Ranboo.
“Awwe, does someone have a ticklish belly?” After a moment of violent thrashing, Ranboo went limp, and just accepted his fate. Even though he was laughing so hard his belly was starting to hurt, and he could feel tears prickling in the corners of his eyes, he couldn’t deny how good this felt. To be so carefree around his friends, not even trying to muffle or contain his reactions as he snorted and laughed to his heart's content.
“NAHAHAHA- *snort* T-TOHOHOMS!” Tommy laughed as his name was called out, pulling his hands away from Ranboo’s belly, flopping on the bed next to him. Tubbo climbed back up on the bed as well, laying himself across the other two. Tommy grunted from Tubbo’s weight being added onto him, and pulled Ranboo into his arms, rubbing his back soothingly. Ranboo buried his face into Tubbo’s hair, trying to regulate his breathing. After a minute of comfortable (almost) silence and Ranboo’s giggling still hadn’t let up, Tubbo laughed, rubbing his shoulder.
“You alright, Boo?” Ranboo nodded, his head falling back against the bed, taking deep breaths.
“Y-yeahahaha, I’m goohohod.” Tommy fondly rolled his eyes as the giggling still didn’t completely stop, pulling the two closer to him. Tubbo shifted around, wrapping himself around Ranboo, before relaxing and closing his eyes. The only two followed shortly after him.
“Softyinnit.”
“Shut the fuck up Tubbo.”

Simon x Fem. Reader
Warnings: Language.
A/N: A lot of pet names in this...haha SHOCKER. Here’s a little early Halloween addition fic! I’ll have more holiday fics coming soon.

“Why would you make up something like that? You really scared me.”
__
The legs of the chair you were sitting in squeaked as you leaned forward, tuned in to what Negan was saying. It was late October (or at least, you had estimated that it was October) meaning Halloween was soon approaching. Halloween was one of your favorite holidays as a kid. The candy, the trick or treating, the costumes were all part of the spooky experience. As you got older, you cared less about the costumes and more about the scary movies. Almost every Halloween (pre-apocalypse of course) consisted of you curling up on the sofa with a bowl of wrapped chocolate with some sort of scary movie on.
The only downside to this was that you were a bit jumpy. It didn’t take much to get you feeling paranoid and have you checking under your bed for monsters. Which was ironic considering you literally lived in a world where there were horror movie like creatures roaming at every turn.
So you weren’t really sure how you ended up here. Sitting with Negan and Simon outside of The Sanctuary after hours on a particularly cold night, listening to the two of them tell scary stories. Negan was recalling the time he almost became walker food when he was out on a run alone once. His voice was low and deep, his eyes fixed on yours as he spoke;
“Its hand barely had any skin left on it...it was basically all bone at that point,” He described; “For a half rotted roamer, it had a nasty grip on me though.”
Your heart was beating crazy fast in your chest. You couldn’t even imagine how scared you’d be if that had happened to you. The fact that he was able to laugh about it now was astonishing.
“I was able to reach my knife and just as it went to sink its teeth into my calf, I drilled the blade into its head,” He told; “I stabbed it an extra time for good measure. It took me at least a good five minutes to get it completely off of me because I was shaking so bad.”
You were wide eyed now as you processed everything he was saying. Simon sucked in a breath before sighing it out;
“Shit. I don’t even think I’ve ever come that close to being roamer chow,” He admitted. He noticed the chill that went up your spine, prompting him to one up Negan’s story by telling his own; “You think that’s bad? Let me tell you about the time I was chased by my neighbor who was an escaped convict for murder.”
Your head snapped in his direction;
“You’re not serious.” You gaped.
Simon put his hands up in defense;
“It’s true. I swear.” He said with a hint of smirk appearing.
It wasn’t true. As excitedly terrifying as it may sound, Simon had never known any murderers or real criminals in his day. He was just making this up off the top of his head.
“You’re fucking with us. No damn way that happened.” Negan bantered.
Simon chuckled;
“You wanna hear the story or not?” He asked sassily.
You and Negan shot each other glances, before turning your attention back to Simon.
“I was about 18. Just about to go off to college,” He began; “This guy lived about three doors down and had always been a little odd. He very rarely came out of his house, but it was always dark. He had weird vibes all around. All the parents in the neighborhood wouldn’t dare let their kids go play around his house.”
You were nervously chewing on your thumb nail as you listened intently. You didn’t like the fuzzy feeling that was bubbling in your belly.
“It wasn’t a surprise that none of us knew that he had been arrested and thrown in prison. His house was exactly the same when he wasn’t around. I felt bad for the guy. For all I knew, he was just a lonely guy with no one to talk to,” He continued; “So one day I thought it would be nice to hand deliver his morning newspaper to him. I went to the front door, knocked, but didn’t get an answer.”
You didn’t like where this was going. You were quite literally on the edge of your seat as you took it all in. Negan himself even refrained from interrupting, curious to see how this would end.
“I heard some sort of racket in his backyard, so I walked around and through the fence. And what I saw about made me damn near sick,” He explained; “He was in his prison jumpsuit and all. And he was burying a body in his backyard.”
Your heart hit your shoes and bounced back up to your throat. Negan’s jaw dropped and his face went pale. This was the most insane story you had ever heard.
“I was going to just make a run for it and pray to God I could forget about it. But then he saw me standing there like a deer in headlights,” He said rubbing his slightly chilled hands together; “I shit you not, the fucker dropped the shovel and started running at me.”
You were speechless. How had he never told you this story before? More importantly, how did this not traumatize him? Now Negan was just as wide eyed as you, stunned at what he was hearing.
“I swear my feet left the ground before I could even think. I sprinted in the other direction and started screaming bloody murder...no pun intended,” He snorted; “Anyways, to make a long story short, I managed to run out of my neighborhood and found a policeman down the street. Turns out he had escaped his cell that morning and they had been on the hunt for him all day because they were afraid of what he might do. That body was some random guy that he encountered after his escape.”
You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. The hairs on your arms and legs were sticking straight up. You suddenly had the eery feeling that someone was looking at you.
“My mom had to come pick me up from the police station. I was convinced she wasn’t going to let me go off to school after that,” He joked; “But once it was all cleared up, things turned back to normal...but I still would get a sense of fight or flight every time I visited home. But, hey, shit happens.”
Simon finished his story nonchalantly. As if he hadn’t just confessed that he had almost been chopped to bits by a psycho killer. You felt like your heart was going to make a leap of faith out of your chest. You had never heard anything like that in your entire life. Negan shook his head to shake the thought;
“You were had a life or death encounter with a serial killer and all you can say is ‘shit happens’? Simon, I may have pegged you wrong,” Negan stated; “You are one badass motherfucker.”
Simon grinned and shrugged. He had been lying, of course, but if it earned him brownie points with the boss, then he didn’t mind dragging it out. You were shocked silent. What do you even say to that? Negan smiled, shaking his story off effortlessly;
“I don’t know if I can top that, but have I ever told you two about the time I fought off a rabid raccoon?” Negan asked with a raised brow.
Simon caught your ghostly and tired look and stood from his chair;
“No and I’d love to hear it, but I think she’s had enough storytelling for one night.” Simon said guiding you up from your chair.
Negan shrugged with a scoff;
“Suit yourself. It’s one hell of a story though.” He said standing from his own seat.
Simon assured him of another time to tell it and finally walked you back inside from the courtyard. Simon had already completely discarded the story he had just burned into your head. He didn’t even catch the slight shiver in your limbs. You were rattled and even a little terrified. You felt like a little kid who swears they had heard a monster under their bed. Simon slipped his hand into yours as you walked back to your floor;
“So, I’ll see you in the morning, yeah?” He asked softly in your ear, careful not to wake anybody else up.
He wasn’t going to leave you alone tonight, was he? Surely not after all that. You stopped his trek and looked at him with pleading eyes;
“Can I stay with you tonight? Please?” You asked gently; “I don’t want to be alone tonight.” You confessed.
Now, he realized something was up. He instantly agreed, leading you to his room. He watched as you quietly got ready for bed and crawled under the sheets and covers. He followed suit, pulling you to him. You latched onto him like he’d float away if you didn’t. Simon looked down at you with worried eyes;
“What’s the matter, baby?” He asked sweetly.
You buried your face into his soft shirt and shook your head. You didn’t want to admit you were scared, but you also couldn’t get the thought of being chased by a crazed killer out of your head either. He rubbed your back comfortingly and encouraged you;
“Darlin’, you can talk to me. Always.” He cooed.
You mumbled against him. He rested his chin on your head, taking in the scent of your favorite soap. His brain racked up any ideas of what was making you so fidgety. He finally thought back to the story that he had just told about a half hour prior. He suddenly felt guilty. He didn’t think it would’ve scared you this bad...especially since it wasn’t even true.
“Is it the story I told just a little while ago?” He asked.
When you nodded, he whimpered out an airy sympathetic sound. He held you tighter and admitted his lie;
“Oh, sweetheart, that didn’t actually happen. I just made it up.”
You paused and looked up at him. The way your glossy eyes shimmered and lower lip quivered broke his heart;
“Really? You’re not just saying that?” You asked desperately.
“I promise. The whole thing was just a story.”
Your brows furrowed, suddenly a little annoyed;
“Why would you make up something like that? You really scared me.” You said truthfully.
He kissed your forehead and hummed deeply;
“I didn’t think you’d actually believe it. You always see through my bullshit.” He grinned brightly.
You growled faintly;
“Not always. I literally thought you were serious.”
“I’m sorry, [Y/N], I didn’t mean to.” He apologized.
You nuzzled back into his frame, accepting his apology. You were mostly relieved that didn’t actually happen to him though. You would’ve been scarred for life.
“That’s okay. You really could’ve been an actor, might I add.” You joked.
He scoffed, kissing your skin;
“I’ll stick to storytelling in the courtyard.”

He didn’t want to see her. He wanted to see anybody but her.
Trust was never in her vocabulary, and especially not in his, but Malcolm found himself on a mission to get Dani Powell to trust him from almost the day they met in the elevator with Gil. She was a case he wanted to solve, a mystery he wanted to know every single detail about. Something about her intrigued him and every day he felt as though he needed to know more. She was annoyed with him at first, and probably always is, but slowly, he caught her starting to open up, bit by bit. Once he saw that, he caught on to it and never wanted to let go.
Which is why as he sits handcuffed in the interrogation room, the same handcuffs she put on him an hour ago, he prays to whoever will listen that Gil or JT walk in the door because he physically can’t look at her right now. Not when he ruined everything he had worked so hard for. The silence in the room feels as though it is crushing him alive, and he doesn’t have the strength to fight back. His survival instincts aren’t kicking in anymore, and he realizes he’s not even a little upset about it.
He winces when the door opens because of course the universe is never done with him, and Dani walks in with a file in her arms. Her leather jacket is missing, presumably at her desk, and her long-sleeve gray shirt covers her fingers like mittens. She doesn’t even bother to look at him.
A defense mechanism, Malcolm notices. He feels his heart start to break even more. He had always considered Dani a friend, nothing more than that because he never let himself go to that point. He didn’t want to push her too far away by encouraging the idea of them ever being anything more in the distant future, but it looks like he did it anyway. How did he screw up without even trying?
She sits across from him, still avoiding his gaze, and Malcolm gives up to stare at the metal table he is handcuffed to. Dani had not said a single word to him since she muttered, “I’m sorry,” as she handcuffed him in his apartment. What on earth could she be sorry for? She’s not the one who ruined the best thing that had ever happened to him simply by existing.
The two of them sit in silence for a moment before Dani softly slides the file across towards him. He’s seen enough interrogations to know how it works, knows he should get a lawyer, and stay quiet. He couldn’t convince her, let alone the team that he was being framed, and it seemed like everything he did would incriminate him more. His eyes widen to see Dani open the file, and it’s completely empty. He whips his head up to look at her. For the first time in his life, he has no idea what is going on. She stares back at him.
Her voice is soft, as though she is afraid to speak out loud. “We had to get you out of your apartment.”
He wants to joke with her to make her feel better, but he decides not to. “By arresting me?”
She nods. He notices the dark circles under her eyes, circles he hadn’t seen since the time she came to visit him in the hospital after Watkins. When was the last time she had slept, and how did he not notice? He answers his own question, the gut-wrenching memory of Eve’s body flooding his memories. He was so preoccupied with her murder, he didn’t pay attention to what was going on in his surroundings. It wasn’t like him to do that.
“Dani,” he starts, not missing how she doesn’t look him in the eye. “Please, you know I didn’t do this.”
She doesn’t answer him. If he thought losing Eve was painful, why does this hurt so much more? Why does Dani avoiding his gaze make him feel as though Watkins stabbed him all over again?
“Dani,” he pleads, “come on, you know I didn’t kill him!” It takes everything in him to not get mad at her. Dani is a detective and a damn good one at that. She looks at the evidence and makes her conclusions, just as he does. Her mind is already made up. For someone who spent his entire life avoiding emotional confrontations, he just wants to see her feel something. “Dani!”
“Stop,” she mutters, barely loud enough for him to hear, but he does. His posture changes, he goes into red alert because just as he did when they first met, he latched onto whatever she gave him, regardless of how small it was. “Not now.”
The way she says it implies there’s something more going on, but Malcolm can’t figure it out. Dani had always been good at putting up walls, but this was an entirely new side of her Malcolm had never seen before. A side he wanted to hold and keep safe from whatever demons hurt her in the past, but now? He was one of those demons, and he hated himself for it.
“You’re not telling me something,” he says after a moment of silence. He feels himself getting agitated.
“What, you’re going to profile me?” She scoffs. Her eyes narrow directly at him and she puts her elbows on the table. “This is already decided, Bright. We know what you did, I know what you did.”
“No you don’t!” He knows better than to argue with her, let alone the NYPD, but he was frustrated. For a profiler, for someone who knew every interrogation tactic back to front, he thought he was going to lose his own mind.
“Really?” Her demeanor changes suddenly, and Malcolm finds himself leaning back in his chair when she stands suddenly, kicking the chair back behind her as she leans towards him. “You didn’t kill him? Just like you didn’t shove Watkins in a box? Just like your Father didn’t kill those 23 young girls? You didn’t end up just like him?”
He wants to stand up and fight her, and he almost does. If it was anyone else, he would have. He feels the rage in his blood, for Dani to turn around and to use this against him, knowing how he spent his entire life fighting everyone’s opinions of him before they even met him. How he let himself believe Dani was the one thing in his life he hadn’t screwed up.
Wait a minute.
He holds her gaze for a moment as his brain does the rapid calculations. He remembers her demeanor when she came into the room, the sudden rage she had when she looked at him. He remembers sitting in the car with her, talking about the terrible movie that played in his head. He remembers the wedding, of working together nearly perfectly. He remembers her opening up about her undercover years, about her past. He remembers her soft smile when he admitted that she was the one he liked talking to. He remembers Dani, the woman who never judged him for his family, and the woman in front of him is not her.
He glances up at the camera in the corner of the room, at the window behind her where he knows Gil and JT are watching and listening to his every move. He glances down at Dani’s hands, one still covered by her sleeve. He looks at her face, noticing how her eyes keep blinking back what look very closely to be tears, tears she refuses to let fall.
“Okay,” he speaks slowly, cautiously. His brain remembers how Eve died, how she got too close to Endicott. How Endicott easily wove his way into the lives of his mother and his sister. “I didn’t do this.”
The door opens, JT and Gil enter the room swiftly. JT reaches to the camera on the wall before unplugging the power. Gil starts to undo Malcolm’s handcuffs.
“We’re good,” he says, and Dani collapses into the chair she stood from. She buries her head in her arms.
“Thank God,” she shivers, and Malcolm stands when his hands are free, shaking his wrists out.
“What the hell is going on?” He looks between the three of them.
“Your apartment was bugged, Endicott set you up for murder to get you off of his case. Your mom and Ainsley are on their way here,” JT speaks fast. “We didn’t know if the precinct was bugged, and we didn’t want to hold off on the interrogation while we checked because that could take a long time—”
“and Endicott would catch on if there were delays,” Malcolm nodded, his eyes never leaving Dani. “So you had to make it believable.”
Dani looks up at him then, and Malcolm realizes how drained she is from the past ten minutes. “You know I…we know you didn’t kill anyone.”
“Dani,” he wants to pull her into his arms to reassure her that he knows her, and knows she didn’t mean the words that came out of her mouth.
She shakes her head. “I need some air,” she leaves the interrogation room suddenly, and Malcolm immediately follows her into Gil’s office. She’s shaking, and her hand is running over her face repeatedly. She’s anxious, borderline terrified, and Malcolm recognizes it instantly.
“Can we talk here?” He looks around the room.
“The entire precinct is on lockdown, this place has been swept from top to bottom, we’re fine. I’m fine,” she goes to brush him off, but he’s faster and catches her wrist.
“Hey,” he tilts his head to the side, studying her with the amused look on his face that always earned an eye roll from her. “It’s okay.”
“It’s not,” she pulls her hand away from him. “Even if it wasn’t real, I should never have used your father against you—”
“Endicott would expect you too,” he cuts her off.
“Well, Endicott isn’t here—”
“You didn’t know that,” he cuts her off again. “Dani, I’m not hurt or mad at you. Please don’t think I am.”
When she meets his gaze, he visibly relaxes because he recognizes the eyes staring at him. Dani is back, his Dani, and for a moment he feels okay again.
“I just don’t want anything to happen,” she admits. Malcolm knows her walls are still up, but these are walls he’s worked through many times, and he’d do it a million more if it kept her in his life.
“You know we can’t promise that,” Malcolm says, and part of him still wonders if he’s technically under arrest, because if he’s been framed, what exactly does that mean for him? He shakes it off. “We’ll get through this Dani, just as we got through everything else thrown at us.”
“I’m not worried about that,” she chuckles softly, and Malcolm forces himself to not think about how much he loves her laugh. Now is not the time to reconsider the idea of being something more with her, someday. Not when he’s been arrested for murder.
“I just don’t like change,” she admits. “If we can’t prove you were set up…and Endicott somehow wins and you go to prison…” she trails off, which Malcolm had previously noticed she did when she did not want to finish a sentence that seemed personal.
“That’s fair, prison isn’t as glamourous as my father makes it look,” he shrugs, and Dani laughs for real at that. “I wouldn’t have my partner to keep me from being reckless either,” he laughs when Dani glares at him.
“I take it back, maybe prison would be good for you. It’d give me time to get my sanity back.”
“Haha,” he counters. “You’d miss me, you just won’t admit it.”
She walks past him to the door. “While you keep telling yourself that, I’m going to save your ass, again.” He laughs and watches her walk out the door before his face falls. “Wait, what do you mean again?!”

Tumblr media
“It’s raining tonight kitty,” you looked up at Jimin, who had been feeding you the last few weeks and you had thought he had realised that you weren’t an idiot, as droplets of water hit your fur. But he was a nice boy, who seemed to enjoy the company of a stray cat which just happened to be you, his smile widened as you rubbed against his legs, waiting and begging for him to place down the tin of tuna he was holding. “You want to come stay at mine tonight?” he mused to himself, as he seemed unaware that when you had enough strength you’d be able to revert back to your normal form.
Usually, you would have responded with an angry swish of your tail, but the feeling of a full stomach was too alluring as you ate the food. Jimin often talked about taking you back to his home, he’d be so close to reaching that special spot just under your chin when he would stop and ask if you wanted to become his pet. Pet, the word sounded like cheating when you knew he had no idea what you actually were.
“The apartment gets quite loud, but my room is very warm,” you finally paused your eating of the expensive tuna he had bought you, looking up at him when you realised this wasn’t just a brief thought. Licking your lips, you wondered how you were meant to say no, resorting to stretching up and lightly sink your claws into his calf as a warning. Jimin simply laughed to himself, reaching down to ruffle your head.
“So you are listening,” he crouched down and moved his hand near you, watching with a smile as you pushed your head into his hand, as a way of thanking him for the food. Usually, that would be the end of your interaction, but rain makes people and cats behave strangely, making you tired and Jimin impulsive as he moved his weight from one foot to the other, as if having an internal argument, “I can’t just leave you here kitty. Come on.”
You meowed, trying to tell him to leave you alone now, the umbrella he was holding was being tugged at by the wind that had just picked up, but Jimin misunderstood as he moved towards you to pick you up. When you flinched and ducked out of his reach, Jimin let out a long sigh and moved forward again, this time his hand latched onto the back of your neck as he scooped you up with ease.
There was something so gentle about Jimin as he continually murmured apologies, placing you inside the front of his slightly unzipped coat and quickly standing up, before laughing slightly at your complaining, “stop yowling like that kitty, I’ll give you more tuna if you calm down.”
Jimin’s chest was so warm, and without thinking you let yourself purr and his chest rumbled with laughter, slowly you felt your eyes drifting shut, “the boys are going to love you.” Jimin said with a smile, looking down at the now sleeping ginger kitten in his arms.
He knew they weren’t meant to have pets in the apartment but he wouldn’t forgive himself if he had left such a cute cat on the streets, the rain got heavier and Jimin glanced up at his umbrella hoping it would hold for the quick walk to the dorms.
“Park Jimin, that better not be a cat!” Hoseok laughed when he saw the younger boy walk through the door, soaked to the bone with a little ginger cat asleep under his coat. Jimin grinned at the elder and pulled the cat out of his coat, handing it to Hoseok who couldn’t stop himself from sighing at how cute it was, whispering, “this is my baby now.”
There was a large hustle as Taehyung tried to snatch you away from Hoseok, Namjoon looking over their shoulders with a wide dimpled smile at the sight of your smiling face of pure content.
Yoongi and Seokjin came home later, and instantly Yoongi knew from the prickling sensation on the back of his neck that something magical was in their house. Tentatively he called out to the boys, heading towards the movie room and poking his head around the door to warn them he came face to face with the problem.
You were fast asleep in Jimin’s lap, having been passed from boy to boy and slowly Yoongi moved towards you, a wide smile on his lips of amusement, “This isn’t a regular cat.” Jimin looked confused, eyes flicking down to inspect your ordinary feline shape and Yoongi’s knowing look until something in his head clicked causing him to turn bright red.
“What’s going on?” Jeongguk asked, shuffling closer to you and Jimin to run his hands through your ginger hair, smiling as he played with the white stripes of your long tail that kept swaying slightly in your sleep.
Deciding it would be more amusing for the younger boy to wake up next to a human, Yoongi just smiled and when Jimin relaxed back into the chair he sent a wink to Jeongguk, mouthing that he would explain all later.
The suspense was too much for Jeongguk who leapt to his feet, ushering Jimin to bed, “look how tired that poor kitten is! Go take it to a quiet place and leave it there.” Jimin was unwilling to part with it, as Jeongguk had assumed when he made the statement and the youngest boy watched Jimin walk off to his room, cradling the small ginger cat.
Finally, when he had left, Jeongguk looked at Yoongi nodding as he waited for an explanation which the elder provided with a wide smile, “you really didn’t notice it was a shifter. They seem weak and unable to shift back, but it still means there is a person sleeping on Jimin’s bed.”
“YOU’RE NOT A CAT?” Jimin’s voice was low from having just woken up, but it still roused you from the clutches of warmth and happiness that sleep provided. His voice had woken you and it took you some time, which you filled with stretching out your tight muscles and rolling around to finally comprehend what he had said.
Slowly you turned to him, aware that he had no idea what he had got himself into and your brain’s tired response was to smile, and whisper, “meow,” Jimin burst into laughter, slowly shuffling further away from you and your mind finally understood as you bounced up to kneel on his bed, head touching the impossibly soft bed sheets.
“I’ll go straight away. I’m so sorry that I imposed and was so shameless,” you were rambling and when Jimin merely laughed again, you risked a peek up at him, his chest bare and radiating in the morning sun. You recognised him from the interviews when he had first found you and trusted him, but being face-to-face with him made your face heat up in a hot blush, as you scratched behind your ear in embarrassment.
The door was shoved open, Jeongguk and Taehyung in fits of laughter when they saw Jimin lunge for you to hide your figure from the younger boys in fear of a punishment, “We heard your girlish scream Jiminnie and look at this beautiful creature in your bed,” Taehyung teased, winking at you.
Namjoon strolled in behind the younger and leant against the door frame, “We’ll have to report that you’re sexually active to the staff Jiminnie,” Jimin’s face turned bright red, his ears adorably hot and you turned around to defend him but Namjoon just watched your reactions before cracking into a dimpled wide smile. “I’m joking, I am aware of the situation,” Namjoon high fived with Taehyung before they all ran out of the room when Jimin began to frown shouting their apologies over their shoulders.
Finally, in the following silence, Jimin turned to smile at you, “I told you the boys would love you,” he couldn’t help himself as he reached forward with his hand, to smooth your unruly bedhead and his eyes widened as you pushed your head into his palm.
A low purr began in your throat and he felt a pair of ears pop up under his hand, looking down at you in interest as your eyes stared down at your intertwined hands. “You also told me it was warm but loud,” you looked up and grinned at him, leaving Jimin’s heart to skip a beat and wonder what he was meant to do now.

Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure
I’m actually approaching these next two reviews with a sense of trepidation.  While I remember loving the Ewok movies as a kid, it’s been years since I last saw them.  I think the last time I watched them prior to this moment was in the early 90s when they’d air on television.  So I have absolutely no idea how they’re going to hold up now, or how they’ll come across to my adult brain.  Before I begin, I am aware that the Wiki page states this movie is supposed to take place before Return of the Jedi.  But something happens in the movie that makes me feel as if it makes more sense for the events in this film to have occurred after Return of the Jedi rather than before.  I’ll explain what I mean when we get to the scene in question.
The movie begins with a prologue of sorts, with a mother and father searching for their missing children.  Throughout the movie, it becomes apparent that this family of four, the Towani family, were traveling somewhere in their star cruiser, but something went wrong and they crash landed on the moon of Endor. Because they didn’t know where they were, they could hardly send a transmission for help, so they were pretty much stuck there until they could get the ship repaired.  But on the night the movie opens, the two children, 14-year-old Mace and 5-year-old Cindel, have apparently wandered off, despite their parents’ instructions to stay near the star cruiser.  While the parents, Catarine and Jeremitt, are out looking for them, they are ambushed by a giant troll-like being called the Gorax.  The Gorax ends up capturing Catarine and Jeremitt for reasons that are not made clear.  Did the Gorax plan on eating them?  Did he just want to keep them as human pets?  It’s never really addressed.
But anyway, the movie then cuts to the star players of the movie- the Ewoks.  Specifically Wicket and his family, which consists of his father, Deej, his mother, Shoudu, his two older brothers, Weechee and Widdle, and his baby sister, Winda.   (Incidentally, you might recognize Widdle as one of the two Ewoks who hijacked the Walker with Chewbacca during the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi.)  On this day, Weechee and Widdle have also gone missing.  So Deej decides to go off looking for them, utilizing a hang glider to search the forest.
So, remember how one of the biggest issues with The Star Wars Holiday Special (not the only issue, but one of the biggest) was the fact that they were mostly focusing on a family of Wookiees and didn’t give us any subtitles, expecting us to just figure out what was happening on our own?  Well, in this TV movie, they did learn their lesson.  Sort of.  While they don’t give us subtitles in this one, either, we did get a narrator. Yeah, they got Burl Ives, who you might remember from the Rankin Bass version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (among other things), to narrate this movie. Unfortunately, this really doesn’t work to the movie’s advantage.  There are times when it feels as if the Narrator is talking down to the audience. And at first, the use of a narrator makes the movie seem more like a nature documentary on Ewoks rather than a plot-driven movie.
Deej eventually locates his wayward sons. They were apparently climbing a rocky cliff but got stuck halfway up.  After Deej helps them get out of their predicament, the three Ewoks start making their way back to their village.  But first, they have to make a detour.  While he was gliding over the forest on his hang glider, Deej saw something glittering in the sunlight through the forest canopy, so he decides to take his sons with him to investigate what it was.  And that’s how they discover the crashed star cruiser.  They step inside to investigate their discovery, and thus end up finding Cindel hiding behind a panel.  Not sure if we’re supposed to conclude she made it back to the star cruiser after her parents ran into the Gorax or if she’d been there all along and the parents just didn’t look hard enough.  Either way, Cindel, being 5-years-old, instantly decides the Ewoks are friends based on how cute they were.  Her brother, Mace, on the other hand, is less trusting of the little teddy bear Aliens.  Instead, he charges in and aims his blaster at them, stating that they might be the beings who took their parents.  I’m guessing it’s been a few days since the events of the movie prologue. Eventually, the Ewoks take the two kids back with them to their village.  Though they take Mace back by tying him up and carrying him.  Rather similar to how they initially treated Han, Luke, Chewbacca and R2 in Return of the Jedi.  The Ewoks must really not like human males.  That, or they just don’t like the hostile ones.
Now, I gotta pause to talk about the two kids. There’s no sense in denying that neither of these two give a good performance, even by child actor standards. In fact, with the kid who plays Cindel, Aubree Miller, this was her first acting role.  And believe me, it shows.  But I can forgive her for that because, again, she’s only 5-years-old. Mace, on the other hand?  I don’t think he’s even trying sometimes.  There are some points in his performance when he seems to think all you need to do to convey emotion is to shout your lines. Also, I sometimes get the feeling that the movie was trying to make Mace a discount Luke Skywalker.  Sure, he shows no indication of being Force Sensitive, but his costume throughout the movie bears a strong resemblance to Luke’s X-Wing pilot outfit.  Even his haircut seems similar to Luke’s.
When they get back to the Ewok Village, it soon becomes apparent that Cindel is sick with a fever.  Fortunately, Deej and his wife, Shoudu, are able to give Cindel some medicine that helps her, but when Cindel is still ill in the morning, they have to go out and gather more medicine for her.  To get the key ingredient for the medicine, they have to travel to this tree in the middle of the forest.  Because this specific tree emits a special kind of fluid that the Ewoks have used to treat their ailments for eons.  (I wonder if this is the Tree of Life they mentioned in The Star Wars Holiday Special.)
It’s at this point where we first start to see how much of a dingbat Mace is.  While the Ewoks are harvesting the tree’s curative sap for Cindel’s medicine, Mace spots a large hole in a nearby hollow tree.  And there appears to be some kind of cute little fuzzy critter inside this hole. For some reason, Mace decides to go over and stick his hand into the hole in order to get this critter.  Yes, I know Mace is supposed to be 14 in this movie, but at the same time, he’s presumably grown up in the Star Wars universe. You’d think he’d know better than to go about touching random fauna like this.  The moment he reaches inside, a larger creature ends up biting down, latching onto his hand.  Apparently this creature is a predatory animal called a Temptor.  The fuzzy creature Mace saw was part of the creature’s tongue.  I guess this creature is a bit like an alligator snapping turtle, in the sense that it lures prey to come closer with their tongue.   So the Ewoks have to drop what they’re doing to come to his rescue.
Despite Mace’s stupidity, the Ewoks are able to gather up enough tree fluid to manufacture more medicine for Cindel. The following morning, the medicine seems to have done the trick, as Cindel is feeling all better.  And right away, she develops an instant friendship with Wicket, possibly because they’re supposedly around the same age.
Also, it’s here that I noticed something a bit off-putting about the movie.  This is supposed to take place in the Star Wars universe, in a galaxy far, far away.   So can someone please explain to me how the Ewoks share their home with animals commonly seen on Earth?  I’m not kidding, here.  By this point in the movie, we’ve seen the Ewoks have ponies, goats, rabbits and ferrets.  Is this movie is suggesting that those particular species are actually native to the moon of Endor and somehow ended up on Earth as an invasive species?  I mean, the events of the Star Wars films are supposed to have happened a long, long time ago.  So maybe, by the time then became now, the native people of the Star Wars universe somehow found their way here to the Milky Way and ended up colonizing Earth, bringing with them an assortment of critters that we now associate with our planet.  I guess that’s as good of an explanation as any.
Anyway, Cindel starts trying to communicate with Wicket about how they ended up on the moon of Endor, explaining how their star cruiser crashed.  Out of nowhere, Wicket starts repeating Cindel’s statements in comprehensible English. Or Basic, to use the Star Wars terminology.  Yep, this movie shows Wicket starting to develop the ability to speak Basic.  By the time the sequel, The Battle for Endor, comes along, he is able to speak Basic fluently.  And that is why I take issue with this movie supposedly taking place before Return of the Jedi and therefore think it makes more sense to set this movie after the Original Trilogy ends.  Because if this did take place before Episode 6, then there is no reason why Wicket wouldn’t have been able to actually engage in a conversation with Leia.  Or why the other Ewoks seemed to be so hostile to Luke and Han upon seeing them.  If they’d already met Mace and Cindel by that point, then they must have noticed the fact that Han, Luke and Leia were from the same species.
Because of her newfound friendship with Wicket, Cindel suggests to Mace that the Ewoks could help them find their parents. Mace, however, isn’t convinced, dismissing the Ewoks as animals.  Which is weird, because he must have realized by this point that the Ewoks are sentient beings.  And, being from the Star Wars universe, he should be at least somewhat familiar with non-humanoid Aliens.  Regardless, Mace decides to take Cindel and sneak away in the middle of the night so they could continue the search for their parents.  Which was really stupid on his part.  Once again, they’re on a planetary moon they’re not familiar with and therefore don’t know what nocturnal fauna there might be.  But that’s what Mace decides to do.
After traveling for a bit, Cindel insists that they’re lost and she can’t walk any further, so Mace sets up camp, building a campfire to keep warm.  As they’re sitting around, they start to discuss their parents, and whether or not they’re dead.  Mace then starts to confide in Cindel how he wishes he’d been a better son.  I guess the implication is that Mace sometimes misbehaved.  And it’s possible that this is basically him saying that he shouldn’t have wandered off the night Jeremitt and Catarine went missing.
At that moment, this wolf-boar creature suddenly appears and starts to chase the two kids, forcing them to take refuge inside a hollow tree for the night.   When morning comes, we see the Ewok family had managed to track them down, as they are trying to fight off the wolf-boar.   And there’s no denying the stop-motion effect they used with the wolf-boar did not stand up against the test of time, as it looks really dated.  Nowhere near as good as the Rancor.  Yes, I know this movie was made on a considerably smaller budget, but even so.  Eventually, the wolf-boar is brought down by a well-aimed poison dart from Wicket. And, when they get a close look at the dead wolf-boar, they see he’s wearing a collar. Meaning he belonged to someone.  But what really catches Mace and Cindel’s attention is the fact that their father’s Life Monitor is stuck to the collar.  Life Monitors, from what I gather, are a type of bracelet that you can wear, which is used by groups of people to keep track on the life status of everyone else wearing the bracelet.  Since Jeremitt’s Life Monitor states he’s alive, the children have a renewed hope that they’ll find their mother and father.
But before they can hope to reunite with their parents, Mace and Cindel have to figure out where the wolf-boar came from. Because knowing that would most likely help determine where the parents are.  To help Mace and Cindel, the Ewok family take them to Logray, the village shaman, in the hopes that he could help determine the parents’ location. Thankfully, Logray can help them. Because he has some kind of magical spinning top thing that can enable you to observe things in other locations. That’s right, magic now exists in the Star Wars universe.  Even though it’s never mentioned at any other point in the Star Wars media.  Though I guess it’s possible what the Ewoks call magic is actually the Force.  Does this mean Ewoks can be Force Sensitive, too?  Anyway, Logrey’s magic top helps them learn that the missing parents are prisoners of the Gorax.  Upon seeing the danger her parents are in, Cindel begs Deej to help them rescue them. After some hesitation, on account of the fact that the Gorax lives in a Forbidden Fortress that no Ewok has ever returned from, Deej ultimately decides to accompany Mace and Cindel on their quest to rescue their parents.  And his three sons, Weechee, Widdle and Wicket also volunteer to go along.
Here, we do get a rather nicely acted scene, considering the actors are wearing Ewok costumes.  During the night, we see Shodu mournfully looking around at her family while everyone is sleeping.  It is clear that she is fearful about the safety of her family and is terrified that she might not see her husband or sons again.  After all, the Gorax is suppoed to be very dangerous.  Eventually, Deej wakes up to comfort her, even though he is probably equally as scared.  I don’t know why, but there’s just something about this scene that I really appreciated.
When morning comes, we finally get to the whole caravan thing this movie’s title promised us, as Deej, Weechee, Widdle, Wicket, Mace and Cindel prepare to leave on their journey to the Gorax’s lair in order to rescue Mace and Cindel’s parents.  And it only took four days in the show’s timeline for the actual plot to begin.  Before they leave, Logrey performs some sacred Ewok ritual, in which each of the travelers are given a special totem.  According to the Narrator, these totems were all once owned by the Legendary Ewok Warriors.  (Shame we couldn’t get more clarification on who these Legendary Warriors were.)  The first three totems are all basically feathered headdresses, with each one supposedly representing a different attribute. Deej gets the White Wings of Hope, Weechee, the oldest son, gets the Red Wings of Courage and Widdle gets the Blue Wings of Strength.  The other totems have a bit more variety, however.  For instance, Wicket is presented with a magical walking stick and Cindel receives a candle that’s called the Candle of Pure Light.  As for Mace, his totem is a rock.  But because Mace is a twat, he dismisses the rock as useless and purposely drops it as they leave Logrey’s hut.  While I understand why he might not see the significance of a rock on this journey, it’s not as if Cindel’s candle or Wicket’s walking stick had an obvious significance at this point.  And at least a rock is somewhat useful.  What did Deej and the two oldest Ewok sons get?  Feathered headdresses.  While I’m sure they are ceremonially significant to the Ewok culture, they’re not going to be of much use in a fight with the Gorax.  Anyway, the last two totems in the ceremony that Logrey performs are an ivory tooth and a crystal.  Deej brings these last two totems with them in order to present them to two other Ewoks, in the hopes that they will join them on their quest.  With the totems all gathered up, they all set off. Though, since Cindel and Wicket are the youngest ones there, they are allowed to ride in a special tent-like compartment strapped to a horse’s back.
The first Ewok the group end up seeking out is Chukha-Trok, who I gather is a renowned Ewok warrior who works as a woodcutter, considering how the movie introduces him.  He ends up felling a tree that just narrowly misses Cindel.  Which immediately puts Chukha-Trok on Mace’s bad side.  So Mace isn’t pleased when Deej offers Chujha-Trok the Ivory Tooth, offering the Ewok woodcutter a place in their company.  At first, however, Chukha-Trok doesn’t seem willing to go, until Mace starts insinuating that he’s not a real warrior.  Which obviously is a huge insult to Chukha-Trok’s pride.  This leads to Mace challenging Chukha-Trok to an ax-throwing contest.  A contest that Chukha-Trok quickly wins.  As a result, Mace begins to respect Chukha-Trok, and he asks him to help them find their parents. This time, Chukha-Trok decides to join the caravan. I do have to give Mace a bit of credit here, to be honest.  While his transition from being dismissive of Chukha-Trok to respecting him as a brave warrior might have occurred a bit too quickly, this was obviously the movie’s attempt at giving him some character development.
Next, they visit Kaink, an Ewok Priestess and the only female apart from Cindel.  Her totem is, of course, the Crystal.  Kaink agrees to join, on one condition- the children have to pass some kind of magical test.  But this test is not exactly clear.  Kaink places the Crystal totem in Mace’s hands and it transforms into a lizard, which he drops in shock.  Then, when Cindel picks the lizard up, it transforms into a mouse.  Apparently, this is enough to convince Kaink to join the rescue mission.  But it’s not clear what this magic test was.  The crystal becomes a lizard and then the lizard turns into a mouse?  So what?  What was this supposed to convey?  The all-knowing Narrator is completely silent on the matter, offering no explanation.  So if anyone from the die-hard Star Wars fan base can offer any insight on what this was, I would love to hear it.
Of course, that’s not the only time the Narrator fails to explain things.  At some point, the group stops to rest and Mace notices a nearby lake.  For some reason, the sight of his reflection in the water makes him curious and he tries to touch the lake.  The moment his finger makes contact with the surface of the lake, he’s instantly trapped beneath the water.  When Cindel sees her brother is in trouble, she calls the other Ewoks to help. They try to extend a rope or a tree branch for Mace to grab so they could pull him out, but the rope and branch are also zapped into the lake the instant they touch the water.  But Wicket has the magic Walking Stick he got from Logrey. Only that is able to successfully penetrate the surface of the water, enabling them to successfully pull Mace out. Like with the magic test Kaink performed, we’re not given any clarification on what this lake was, or why it trapped anyone and anything that came in contact with the surface of the lake beneath the water.  It’s just something the movie included to add some tension.  And to give Wicket’s Walking Stick some significance.
Speaking of scenes that only exist to provide tension, we then get a scene when the Ewoks are getting ready to continue on. Wicket is swinging around on a tree branch, but when he’s told the others are about to leave, he abruptly lets go, which ends up scaring the horse carrying Cindel, prompting the horse to bolt.   So Chukha-Trok has to chase after the runaway horse and keep Cindel from getting hurt.  Once that crisis is averted, they can continue on their way.
When night falls, the Ewoks end up setting up camp. Out of nowhere, there are a bunch of fairy like creatures flitting around.  These creatures are apparently called Wisties, and I guess they were featured in the animated TV show, Ewoks, at some point, but since I only remember watching one episode of that show, I couldn’t say for certain.   The Wisties end up catching the attention of Mace and the other Ewoks.  Well, all except for Widdle, who steps outside his tent, looks around for a second and then decides to go back to bed.  Needless to say, it’s at this point that I found myself really liking Widdle.  Anyway, when Cindel comes out of her tent to see what’s going on, the Wisties start to flit around the Candle of Pure Light, which she just happened to be carrying at the time.  Noticing their interest in the candle, Cindel places it on the ground, and the Wisties, I guess, get absorbed into the candle and merge into Izrina, the Queen of the Wisties.  Once again, we get no explanation as to what just happened, but Queen Izrina ends up joining Mace, Cindel and the Ewoks on their quest.
At long last, after crossing the Desert of Salma (because there’s now a desert on this forest moon), they reach the mountains where the Gorax is supposed to live.  But the entrance is hidden from view.  That’s when Kaink gestures to Mace, pantomiming him to use the rock he got from Logray.  Mace sheepishly admits he threw the rock away, much to Chukha-Trok’s exasperation. Fortunately, Wicket then reveals he’d picked up the rock after Mace dropped it.  When Mace thankfully takes his rock back, he finds out that it’s actually hollow and that something is inside the rock.  He throws it to the ground, revealing this arrowhead.  The arrowhead, as if pulled by a magnet, slides across the ground and slips under a particular stone on the base of the mountain. Which indicates that this is where the entrance is.  Mace ends up using his blaster to blow up the stone blocking the entrance.  Okay, who gave this 14-year-old kid a blaster so powerful, it can blow up a stone?  And if they had blasters with this much capability, why didn’t they ever utilize it during the Original Trilogy?
So they enter the cave, and it’s decided that Widdle, Wicket and Cindel should hang back, on account of them being the youngest members of the caravan.  Widdle in particular isn’t happy about being left behind, but he still abides by the group’s decision.  As such, Deej, Weechee, Chukha-Trok, Kaink and Mace continue on while Widdle and Wicket keep Cindel company.
Deej’s group soon come to this seemingly bottomless chasm. Taking note of what is so obviously a spider web stretching across the crevasse, Mace decides to use the web as a bridge, and they start to cross. But as they neglected to observe, where there’s a spider web, there’s most likely a spider.  Sure enough, a spider attacks them.  Mace strikes back at the spider with a knife, and the spider falls into the abyss.  But as Mace and the Ewoks are crossing the divide on the spider web, another spider appears and stars to attack  Deej.  This time, it’s Kaink who comes to the rescue, as she uses her Crystal totem to hypnotize the spider, resulting in that one to fall into the pit as well.  Meanwhile, we see a third spider has found his way to where Cindel, Wicket and Widdle were waiting.  This third spider is quickly dealt with thanks to Wicket and Widdle, though.
Eventually, Mace and the Ewoks find the lair of the Gorax, where they see the parents trapped in a cage suspended from the ceiling. But the Gorax is also there, currently eating something.  Weechee, partially inadvertently, ends up luring the Gorax out of his lair, allowing the others the chance to free Catarine and Jeremitt.   The rescue attempt involves using the Gorax’s ax as a catapult and providing the parents a rope to climb down on.  But while the rescue is still being carried out, the Gorax, having lost interest in Weechee, returns.  So everyone has to make a run for it.  But Chukha-Trok stays behind to face the Gorax, repeatedly striking at the Gorax’s leg with his ax, despite Mace’s attempts at urging him away.
At that moment, Queen Izrina remembers she’s involved in the movie.  She’s been hanging out in Mace’s pocket this whole time.  At Mace’s request, she flies at the Gorax and disorients the giant by darting around his head.  As the Gorax is flaying around, he ends up hitting the sides of his lair, causing a bunch of rocks to fall.  Chukha-Trok ends up getting hit by the falling rocks, much to Mace’s shock and horror. Mace runs out to try and help the fallen Ewok, but Chukha-Trok was too gravely injured by the falling rocks and ends up dying in Mace’s arms.  Before he dies, Chukha-Trok ends up giving his ax to Mace, which was probably meant to indicate that the two have come full-circle in their relationship and now consider each other as friends.   Mace momentarily grieves his friend’s death, but, due in part to the sub-par acting, he gets over it relatively quickly, and he hurries off to rejoin the others.
Meanwhile, the Gorax is trying to go after the other Ewoks, but Catarine and Jeremitt and the Ewoks team up to create a makeshift trip-wire that they use against the Gorax.  This almost results in the Gorax to fall into the bottomless pit, but he lands just short of the edge, so he doesn’t fall.  It takes the combined efforts of Kaink, who uses her Crystal totem to drop a stalactite onto the Gorax’s head, and Catarine, wielding Mace’s blaster, before the Gorax falls into the crevice to his apparent death.
At this point, the movie seems to be wrapping up. Mace, rejoining the others at this moment, embraces his parents before showing Deej Chukha-Trok’s ax, explaining the warrior’s sacrifice.  And then, Cindel appears on the other side of the chasm with Wicket and Widdle.  And she’s overjoyed to see her parents safe, and vice versa.  However, it turns out the Gorax still has a few hit points left, as he reappears at this point, trying to climb back out of the pit, right in front of Cindel.  When the Gorax tries to grab Cindel, Mace jumps into action and throws Chukha-Trok’s ax at the Gorax.  The ax lands home in the Gorax’s back, forcing him to fall into the abyss once again.  This time, the Gorax is defeated for real.  So Cindel is safe, and the Towani family can be properly reunited at last.
The Towani family then travels back the Ewok village with the Ewoks.  After Mace bids goodbye to Queen Izrina, thanking her for her help, he rejoins the celebration going on.  Because it’s not just the Towani family that’s been safely reunited, but the Ewok family as well.  And because of the friendship between the two families, I guess, Deej gives the White Wings of Hope to Cindel.  The movie ends with the Narrator delivering one of the cheesiest closing lines ever. About how the movie’s protagonists all learned what they already knew- that courage, loyalty and love were the strongest forces in the universe.
So that was the first Ewok movie.  While I can see why I liked it as a kid, now that I’m an adult, I realize that a lot of this movie didn’t make a lot of sense. Obviously, Kid Me was a lot more accepting of stuff.  Not only that, it dawned on me how this movie might actually be seen as boring.  For the most part, it’s just these two kids interacting and walking around with some Ewoks.  In fact, I think it’s safe to say that if you threw Lord of the Rings and Care Bears into a blender and mixed them together, this is pretty much what you’d end up with.  But at the same time, this movie is clearly meant for kids.  And it must have kept enough kids entertained back in the 80s, because a sequel was released the following year.  Check back next week for my review on that one.

This blog gives me life, your awesome! How bout a todomomo headcanon with Momo being hospitalized from the latest villain, but when Todo goes into the room she flat lines. The doctors rush to use an AED to jump start her heart, as Todo id being pulled back by the docs he calls to her. Lo and behold she wakes up confused and tired (up for 36 hrs strait, she needs sleep) turns out the heart monitor was attached loosly/out of batteries. Just imagine the shock before and after. Todo's poor heart...
Tyty for the ask :D ! omfg….poor todo indeed….
-Todo was sitting alone, anxiously waiting outside the movie theatre; yaoyo told him she had some work to do around the wharf right before their date so just buy the tickets and she’d be right there. They already missed the first screening of Spiderman so he kept his phone in his hand….anticipating ANY sort of calls or texts but he didn’t get any.
-This was definitely not like her. She always scolded others about being punctual…and even if she were to be late, she would let him know. Something’s not right.
-He didn’t want to call her yet though, he had first hand experience in getting distracted by the vibration of his phone when he’s in the middle of a brawl, so he sat semi-patiently and waited. The tickets in his grip was useless anyway, might as well throw it out.
-By the time the second screening started, Todo decided to call the agency she was working for. Ring, ring…ringginggg….no answer. Fuck. His hands were shaking at this point. Stumbling to search where the nearest hospital was to the wharf, he pushed off his seat and ran outside.
-”Oh my god!!! Is that Shouto?! The pro hero?!” “Yeah, he’s so hot AHHH lets get his signature!!!” “Who’s he waiting for?” “Who cares, lets go!!”
-Ugh, fangirls. Todoroki was already used to it but he can’t spare any brain cells for them right now…the exit was jussssstttttt within his reach….
-”Shouto!!” one of the girls latched onto his arm. Todoroki didn’t even turn to look at her and thrashed his arm, pushing her off. “MOVE OUT OF THE WAY”, he yelled out. People were shocked by his outburst. Screw that hero popularity shit, he didn’t care for that anyway.
-When he got to the hospital, he saw Yaoyorozu’s sidekick outside one of the rooms.
-”What happened to Momo?!” “Ah…*sniff* Todoroki-san, she got…sl-slashed by a villain….and…”
-Todoroki could hear tools clanging from outside the door. Momo better be alright…or that villain won’t ever see the light of day.
-He waited outside the whole night; even when the nurses told him to leave, he argued back. Todoroki wasn’t going anywhere until he knew she was okay…that’d she’d come back to him.
-”You’re stronger than this…” he heard himself mumble, hands held together, fingers intertwining as if he was praying to a higher being out there, “let her be okay…please…”
-He almost tripped over his own foot when he was finally allowed to go inside. Sweat dripping down his neck, his hands tired from clenching them so hard…she looked almost too peaceful when he saw her, lying there with stitches and gauze all over her limbs.
-”Momo….” he leaned forward to kiss her head, “I’m so sorry….” One heartbeat later, a loud blaring sound came from the monitor next to him….his eyes widened from the horror on the screen….was…was her heart failing?
-The indication flat lines right before him, and he felt the thumping in his heart stop along with it.
-The doctors are pulling him away now. “Sir, please…” “NO, MOMO…MOMO, DON’T…..” He could see one of the doctors powering up the defibrillator until…
-”Wait, Steve, the monitor just got loose” “Oh, what the shit”
-The people holding onto Todo lets go and the fire and ice hero plops straight down onto the hard floor.
-”Uggh…” Yaoyo began to lift her arm, her head turning in agitation.
-”MOMO,” Todoroki ran, “you’re awake, oh my god…..” “Shouto? Where…where am I?” Her voice was hoarse, and he kisses her gently again and again. She looked even more confused at this point.
-“You’re at the hospital….shh…don’t talk, do you need water? SOMEONE GET HER WATER….” The nurse nods, instantly succumbing to Todo’s commanding tone.
-”You gave me five heart attacks at once, I swear to god….” “Sh–shouto…weren’t we supposed to watch…spiderman…”
-Todoroki had tears in his eyes and lets out a laugh; how could his girlfriend be so adorable even in such a predicament?
