Witch Hazel- Pt.3
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jungkook x Reader
Genre: FanficWriter!Jungkook, Idol!Reader, College!AU, Angst, Fluff
Summary: There are two students in your art class with a secret: you and the quiet Jeon Jungkook. You’re a problematic idol singer, infamous for your ice cold reputation and perpetual resting bitch face; he’s the artist and author behind the viral comic series based on a certain ice queen idol. After a blowup of destructive rumors, lost motivation and inevitable solitude, you stumble upon Jungkook’s comic and find a new and unexpected light.
Word Count: 2.7k
Parts: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // ?
A/N: i made an unintentional dragon ball z reference at the end of the previous chapter, and now this chapter is loaded with anime references LMAO dont worry if you arent familiar with dbz or sailor moon though!💖
As you approach the entrance to the mall, you have but one wish: Taehyung better show up before Jungkook. Not because you prefer Taehyung, but because you’re terrible at handling small talk and conversation—especially with a timid introvert like Jungkook. You’d rather leave it up to talkative Taehyung to prevent any awkward silences.
Unfortunately for you, however, your wish is not granted. Instead, you spot a bespectacled boy in a bucket hat and white shirt (not a hoodie for once!) sitting on a bench and taking pictures on his phone right outside of the mall. He doesn’t seem to notice you until he looks up from his phone and you’re standing right there with a tiny wave hello. Flustered, he adjusts his glasses and waves back, but that’s the extent of your greetings to one another.
So for the longest thirteen minutes of your life, a huge gap of nothingness sits between you and Jungkook on a wooden bench outside of the mall, waiting for Taehyung to show up. The boy resumes taking photos of the blue sky and the mall itself. You don’t get what’s so photo-worthy about an ordinary sky and the generic architecture of the mall. But then again, this is a boy who also probably has 256GB of storage space dedicated to pictures of his favorite idol (one of which is his lockscreen)—and you certainly don’t understand the appeal of Snow. Therefore, you do not bother asking the boy about his reasons for wasting storage space on certain photos. You wouldn’t understand anyway.
And since Jungkook is too busy using his phone for photos at one end of the bench, you decide to use your phone to text the missing boy from the opposite end of the bench.
10:13AM Y/N “Taehyung, it’s past 10. Where are you??”
10:14AM Taehyung “On my way baby. And don’t worry, I promise I’ll make it worth the wait 😉”
As both a desired and disliked idol, you’ve been called a lot of things: beauty, bitch, babe, ice queen, slut, witch. And you’ve put up with it because you feel like, to some degree, you brought it upon yourself. But you’re wondering what you did to deserve a “baby” from Taehyung. Because the last thing you want is for someone who’s kind-of-not-really your friend to make any sort of romantic advances on you when they know nothing about you.
10:15AM Y/N “Who are you calling baby.”
10:16AM Taehyung “?”
10:17AM Taehyung “But you were fine with it the other night 🍆💦”
10:18AM Jungkook “monkaS”
10:19AM Taehyung “Wait”
10:19AM Y/N “What’s a monkas”
10:20AM Taehyung “Oops wrong chat LOL”
10:21AM Taehyung “Anyway I already told you guys yesterday that I wasn’t coming to the group project thing. I’m busy.”
He sends a screenshot of the group chat where he very clearly had said he wasn’t free. You must’ve missed that text somehow—a fatal mistake on your end because now you’re alone at the mall with Jungkook and it’s damn near impossible to talk to that kid when you can’t even relate to him. At least Taehyung could’ve broken the ice, but of course he’s too busy getting laid.
10:22AM Y/N “Can’t you fuck around later?”
10:23AM Jungkook “poggers”
10:24AM Y/N “What’s a poggers”
10:24AM Taehyung “Sorry I need at least 2 business days to cancel or change an appointment. I’m a man of my word, not a monster ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”
10:25AM Taehyung “But have fun on your date without me~”
10:26AM Jungkook “it’s not a date”
10:26AM Y/N “It’s not a date.”
At least you and Jungkook can both agree that it isn’t a date. But that doesn’t change the fact that you’re stuck hanging out with him for a few hours to “get to know each other” for your stupid art project. How are you even supposed to get to know the boy when there’s nothing to talk about?
“What’s a monkas and poggers?” you ask, because your antisocial mind can’t think of anything else to say once the spam of text messages ends.
“Oh that…” Jungkook looks back down at his phone, scrolling through the text conversation to track down his cryptic messages. “It just means like oh my god and stuff.”
“In what language?” you attempt to keep the small talk going. But from the look of Jungkook’s shifty eyes, it seems you’ve probed too far.
“Gaming... language…”
“Oh.” As far as you can tell by his brief responses, the boy would rather not elaborate further. So you let the conversation die.
Instead, the two of you begin wandering around the mall, hoping it’ll spark any sort of conversation. Of course it doesn’t.
At least not initially.
For exactly 16 minutes (you would know because you’d been checking your phone every other minute as if time would pass any faster that way), you and Jungkook aimlessly walk around the mall without saying a word. And it isn’t until a new shop fills Jungkook’s eyes with sparkles that you spot an opportunity to make something happen.
The shop window is decorated with the cutest recognizable characters: Pikachu, Totoro, Naruto, Sailor Moon, and all their friends. The boy appears to have his eye on the green dragon summoned from seven Dragon Balls. He doesn’t say anything, but it’s obvious he’s interested.
Knowing him, he’d say no if you asked him if he wanted to go inside, in fear of being a burden and wasting your time. So you find a loop hole.
“Let’s go in here,” you say. He nods, obediently following you in but keeping a safe distance. While he’d say no to his own desires, he has a hard time saying no to what everyone else wants. Sounds familiar.
The first thing you see when you walk in is the magic girl section. As someone who grew up admiring Sailor Moon, you would’ve liked to have scouted out that section for nostalgic purposes. The only thing stopping you is the hoard of weebs in that corner. Jungkook, on the other hand, goes right in.
As he joins the frenzy over waifus and body pillows, you shake your head and make a U-turn towards the section with ninjas, pirates, dragon slayers, and Saiyans. The seven plastic Dragon Balls call out to you, just as they had to Jungkook before he got distracted by pink-haired heroines. If you could have one wish granted with the magic of the Dragon Balls, what would you even wish for? There’s not much that you want, except for maybe a life you don’t feel ashamed of. But not even magic would be able to help you with that.
Sighing, you pick up a display model of one of the Dragon Ball fighters and replace his natural black hair with spiky blonde hair to transform him into a Super Saiyan, an almighty hero to protect the world.
“What exactly is the science behind turning blonde when they unleash their Super Saiyan strength?” you mumble to yourself… and the quiet boy next to you. He has a tiny shopping bag with him, so at least you know he didn’t splurge on a body pillow.
“From an artist’s perspective, it makes it easier for people to distinguish between different power levels. Especially in the comics where it’s black and white, so…” Jungkook’s rambling fades out when he realizes you might not be interested in his weeby-artist mind.
“That makes sense,” you say, still fumbling around with the Super Saiyan’s spiky blonde hair. You’d thought maybe it meant something more significant. As if changing one’s appearance could make them stronger by hiding who they really are. “But I suppose not all plot details need to be that deep.”
He nods and picks up another Dragon Ball character, the bald kid with six dots on his head, and wiggles it in your direction. “Is this the kind of anime you’re into?”
You can’t help but sneer at the random but mysterious six dots on the bald head. “This and Sailor Moon.”
Jungkook’s magic girl radar goes off when you mention Sailor Moon. “Oh, so like heroes and stuff?”
“I guess,” you answer, though you’ve never really thought about it that way. It’s not like you intentionally sought out for anything involving superheroes, but it’s something you’d always been naturally drawn to. “Though it seems a bit childish to say it out loud, doesn’t it?”
“I’m sure everyone has wished to be a hero at some point in their life,” the boy says, glancing back at the seven Dragon Balls. “After all, heroes give us something to admire and believe in.”
“Exactly.” You set the Super Saiyan back down on the shelf and stare at the glammed-up Sailor Moon beauties from afar. For just a split second, you’re reminded of your fateful decision to become Snow. “Kind of like idols, right?”
Jungkook flinches, clutching onto his shopping bag as if you’re lowkey judging him for being obsessed with not only pretty idols, but also pretty magic girls. You weren’t planning on bringing up the topic of idols because it can be quite toxic for yourself, but it somehow slipped out of your mouth in the presence of the biggest Snow fanboy. Oops.
“Yeah, kinda…” He lets out a half-laugh, but it sounds forced, only to fill another round of awkward silence as you both exit the anime shop. Great, you’ve brought up another touchy subject and now the boy’s back on lockdown. And just when the two of you were starting to get on the same page.
“I mean… I used to look up to the Sailor Moon characters… because they were my idols… my heroes…” you stumble over your words in an attempt to salvage any momentum you had built up with Jungkook. Surely this is something the weeb can relate to and not feel bad about now that you’ve exposed a bit of your dark past.
“Really?” He tilts his head and eases his grip on the shopping bag. “Who’s your bias—I mean favorite—of the Sailor Scouts?”
You assume he’s asking because your favorite can say a lot about you. Do you prefer crybabies like Sailor Moon, smarties like Mercury, hotheads like Mars, muscles like Jupiter, or perhaps the one who fantasizes over becoming an idol? “Sailor Venus.”
Before responding, Jungkook shuffles through his shopping bag and pulls out a tiny keychain of Sailor Venus with her pretty long hair and orange sailor suit. “Me too.”
You wonder what that says about Jeon Jungkook.
-
By the time lunch comes around, long silences still follow into the food court but somehow you feel less pressure to fill in the gaps. You’re simply okay with being in the boy’s company. Something about it is almost as refreshing as the iced tea you’re sipping on.
As you down your drink, you stare intently at the tall stack of pancakes across from you. The boy’s plate of fluffy delicacies has to be quadruple the size of your tiny salad bowl that you ordered out of habit.
“Um… do you want some?” Jungkook points to his pancakes, but his eyes are glued to your lips—probably because of the drool and not because you share the same pout as Snow.
“No thanks, I’m trying to eat healthier, and I already splurged on pancakes the other day,” you sigh. Even though you've taken a step back from idol life, you feel the need to maintain your image and health for the sake of fans who may worry about you. It’s in your blood, and sometimes you hate yourself for it. “But honestly, you’re really tempting me, you know.”
“Here.” Before you can refuse, Jungkook plops one of his pancakes onto the rim of your salad bowl. “It kinda defeats the purpose of dieting if it makes you unhappy, right? But that’s why cheat days exist~”
“That’s true.” You take a single bite of your pancake, savoring its subtle sweetness. You can’t remember the last time you found pure bliss in something as simple as pancakes without worry. “Thanks, Jung-”
You’re cut off by the fact that the boy’s stack of pancakes vanished, only leaving traces of syrup on the plate and a cute little crumb on the corner of his lips.
“Did you just inhale all your food while I took one (1) bite?”
He swallows the food in his mouth and takes a sip of his milk. “Maybe.”
You don’t know whether to be shocked or impressed, but it made you giggle either way. “You’re a funny guy, you know that?”
Flustered, the boy scurries off to dispose of his food tray. You rarely hand out compliments, and maybe this is why. It probably seems too out of character for someone like yourself, and Jungkook’s fragile little heart can’t handle it.
You punch yourself in the face until Jungkook walks back to the table. Seeing as you’ve only started making a dent in your lunch, he captures a few more photos on this phone, this time of the mall interior and food court. Then he pulls out his sketchbook.
He begins by mapping out a blank page with light lines and dots. Little by little, he adds in the tables, the people, the food. And before you know it, he has the whole food court sketched out and you haven’t even touched your salad yet.
“Are you into architecture? Or like exterior & interior design?” You don’t exactly know the proper art terms for whatever Jungkook’s drawing, but it would explain why he always seems to be taking photos of wherever he goes.
“Yeah, architecture and design are cool.” He shrugs and doesn’t sound all that convincing. So he diverts the spotlight back onto you. “By the way, I mean this in the least offensive way possible, but you’re not an art major, right?”
“Are you saying that because I’m shitty at art?” you pretend to be offended, but you know he’s not the malicious type. “Or because I’m always carrying a guitar to class?”
“The latter.” You see a tiny smirk on the boy’s face as he continues to add in details to his sketch. He’d never say it, but you can tell he’s also thinking your art is complete trash. “Is it music theory? Or just guitar? Or songwrit-”
Bing! Your phone notification saves you from a potentially loaded question about an uncertain future in music, and you couldn’t be more grateful. It’s a new Witch Hazel update from jk.seagull.
You glance over to Jungkook, expecting him to have the same notification on his phone. But he doesn’t. “I would’ve expected you of all people to have notifications turned on for Witch Hazel.”
“Really? Is it because you think I’m that in love with Snow?” It’s Jungkook’s turn to pretend to be offended. You’re glad to see him lightening up and not taking things to heart.
“Are you not in love with Snow?” you tease. Jungkook freezes and so do you. Why the fuck would you ever ask him if he’s in love with an extension of yourself? You don’t want to hear the answer because it’ll hurt you either way. “Nevermind, don’t answer that.”
You quickly skim jk.seagull’s beautiful comic-style artwork and stop at a panel of Snow and the new bunny boy character squaring up.
“But doesn’t this look like something right up your alley?” You flip your phone around to let the boy see the cute art.
“Does it?” Jungkook looks up from his sketchbook and puts down his pencil.
“Yeah, it feels like it would be more your style than realistic architecture would,” you say, although his sketch of the food court is somehow more gorgeous than the actual food court itself. “But I don’t know… You’d be fine with anything in the art field, to be honest.”
To your surprise, the boy shakes his head at your phone screen. “I’m not cut out for something like that.”
“Coming from the best artist in our class,” you say unconvinced. He has to be joking. Or maybe just overly modest. “Obviously I don’t know how you are with storytelling and stuff, but your art is undeniably incredible. And you have a lot of passion and knowledge for comics and anime…”
“Thanks, Y/N, but I don’t think that’s the problem.”

Chapter 8 - Breakdown
Redfield lifted his hand and patted his own chest:
“...Jane is here...”
“What... What are you talking about?” – Noah yelled, taken aback. – “What do you mean ‘Jane is here’? Here where?!”
But before the creature could answer, the sun broke through the clouds. Mr. Red winced, retreating back into the trees, safe in the shadows.
“Hey, no! Stop! What does that mean? Where is Jane?!”
But the creature vanished, leaving him shaking and alone on the empty road.
“What the hell? What the hell?!”
Noah reached for his phone to text his friends... and spotted a message from
Ava, telling him about Cody’s death.
“...Fuck.” – he mumbled.
If Jane was here...
On Monday morning, the gang gathered outside the school building, just before the classes started. They were all anxious and worried about MC. Noah chose to not tell them about his encounter with Mr. Red. He himself still didn’t believe that he actually had found the monster. He didn’t want to alarm no one else. Everybody was pretty messed up already.
Surprisingly, the police didn’t consider MC a suspect. They said that based on Cody’s wounds, he simply fell down into the tree.
What the hell?!
“How do you fall into a tree?”
“What, was he up on your roof or something?” – Andy asked.
“The cops think he was trying to break in...” – but then Lucas asked her what she thought. – “I... I think Redfield killed him.”
Everyone exchanged a nervous glance. Noah’s heart even stopped for a second.
“And... how do you feel about that?” – Lucas still had that cautious tone in his calming voice.
“I think this is messed up. Cody was a jerk, but he didn’t deserve to die for it. And definitely not like that.”
“You guys see what this means, right?” – Lily’s hands were shaking a little:
“It means things are getting even worse. If Redfield’s willing to kill for us... there’s no telling what else he’ll do.”
“So we put a stop to it, once and for all. We march into those woods, find Mr. Red’s house, and—“
“That’s what started this mess!” – Lily interrupted him. – “The closer we get to him, the stronger he becomes! And clearly he’s too strong already!”
“Seriously. What are we even supposed to do against a freaking shadow monster that impales people on trees?!” – Stacy exploded by his side. Andy said:
“There’s gotta be something we can do. I’m not just gonna sit around while people die!” – he was right.
“B-but if he’s doing all this for us... maybe he’d go away if we just ignored him!”
“Sure, and maybe if we all wish real hard, the clouds will turn into cotton candy.” – Ava snapped at Lily. – “We can’t just ignore Mr. Red, we need to understand him. It’s the only way to get some control over the situation.”
Understand?! Control?! That was totally bullshit. It was madness. That monster was uncontrollable.
“You want to control Mr. Red?! After what he did?!”
“You got a better idea?”
“Hold on a second...” – MC showed both of her hands in a peace sign. – “I think... Ava’s right, we need to know more. Maybe there is a way to control Mr. Red, or lock him away. We don’t know until we look for it.”
“And while we’re looking, more people could die.” – Noah reminded her.
Everyone was out of their minds.
“Look, we’re the ones who are closest to this, so we should do everything we can to find a way to stop Redfield...” – Lucas started saying: - “But... the ugly truth is that there may be nothing we can do. Redfield may simply be too powerful.”
“Great, thanks for the pep talk.”
“What, did you want me to sugar-coat it? I’m just trying to be honest about our situation!” – the Class President assumed a defensive position.
“Funny, it sounds a lot like you’re trying to talk yourself out at doing this.”
Typical. Just typical. Lucas trying to free his ass. Stacy thinking that the adults would resolve a damn thing and Lily just wanting for things to stop if they ignored it even with all that madness happening right in front of their faces.
Cowards. They were all just a bunch of cowards.
“Hey, nobody’s giving up yet. We’ve just gotta figure out—“ – he yanked out of MC’s hand on his shoulder.
“Save it.” – he took a step back from the group, shaking his head as the five-minute bell rang. – “You know, for a second back there... I thought you were all with me. I thought maybe we were finally going to make things right. Guess I was wrong.”
And then, he turned and slouched off towards the school building.
He shouldn’t be feeling so disappointed. So lonely. They had already abandoned him once. No one truly cared about Jane. They all just cared about their own lives.
He should have known that this would happen, sooner or later.
If Jane was here...
He didn’t pay attention to the classes as usual. He just couldn’t stop thinking about his meeting with Mr. Red. What the hell did he meant with “Jane is here”? Here where? In the woods? Was she alone there? And how could she be there? They had buried her body a long time ago.
Ugh. That thing was probably just wanting to mess with his head.
Then, with his nerves much calmer, he thought about the fight earlier. Why did they all always ended up fighting when they talked about Redfield? With all that time they wasted arguing with each other, that monster was getting stronger and more dangerous.
After school, as the classes were over, he saw MC leaving the building alone. He decided to follow her. She walked over to the coffee shop on Main Street. He pondered for a moment if he should enter or not, before deciding to go for it. He was already there anyway. He hadn’t talked to none of the gang after their fight... and he wanted to see how she was doing.
MC was sitting alone, armed with fresh coffee and a papers scattered around her.
“Hey.” – he greeted her with a small tilt of his head as he approached the table.
“Noah! What are you doing here?”
“Looking for you.” – he said as he slid into a chair opposite of her. He leaned forward to look at her notes. – “’Hates sunlight, incorporeal form, can control animals’... Are these notes on Mr. Red, or Dracula?”
She didn’t seem to enjoy his joke, since she snatched the notes away from him and shoved them into her bag, with a scowl.
“You got that the whole coming-here-alone thing was on purpose, right?”
“Yeah, I figured that was the case when I saw you sneak out the back door after school and book it down the road. So why didn’t you tell anyone where you were going?”
“Because someone has to figure out how to stop Mr. Red... And I’m tired of fighting about it. Everytime we even start talking about him, it turns into a big stupid argument that doesn’t go anywhere.”
“So you’ve noticed that too?”
“And after everything that happened this morning... I think maybe we all need a little time apart anyway.”
Noah stared out the front window, tapping his foot on the ground. He didn’t know if he agreed with MC. He knew that the gang always ended up fighting with each other... but there was strength in numbers, right?
“I’m sorry, MC. I know I can be a real jerk about Mr. Red stuff. It’s just... Every time I think about him, I get mad about Jane all over again. Then I get pissed at everyone else for not being as mad as I am.”
“About Jane... I’m sorry I pulled away.”
That caught him off-guard. He wasn’t expecting it.
“Whatever. We don’t have to rehash all that.” – he saw her shaking her head before she kept talking:
“No, I... I’m as guilty as anyone else. I pushed you away. And I let it stay that way for too long. And I’m sorry.”
“Jeez... uh...” – he still felt speechless. No one had ever apologised for abandoning him before. But maybe he shouldn’t be so surprised. It was MC after all. – “I mean, thanks... I appreciate that.” – he grinned at her.
He saw a small smile on MC’s lips and they fell into a long but not completely uncomfortable silence. In fact, it was nice being there with her. Watching people coming and exiting the café, living their lives, oblivious about that thing that lived in the woods.
Noah couldn’t help but let his mind drift away... to a time free of drama, sorrow and angst. When Jane was here. One memory specifically popped up on his mind. He was so silly back then, so innocent... Things were so simpler...
“Heh.” – he chuckled to himself.
“What?”
“Nothing, just... I remembered something funny. I was thinking about this time I ran away and Jane came to ‘rescue’ me. She always knew how to...” – he trailed off when he saw MC’s eyes on him. He was rambling. Being a burden again. Noah rubbed his forehead tiredly. – “Eh. You probably don’t want to hear about that...”
“No, come on. I want to hear it.” – she smiled at him, squeezing his hand on his lap, in a encourageous way.
“Okay, so, like I said, I had just run away...” His backpack hung heavy as he hiked deep into the woods, leaving his old life behind. After probably ten minutes walking, he decided that it was time for a snack break. He sat his backpack down on a stump and rummaged around for the Cheesyfish crackers he brought along.
“Aww, they got squished! I can’t eat these now... This sucks.” - suddenly he heard a twig snap in the underbrush nearby. – “Wh-who’s there?!” – he shout to the woods.
Leaves crunched. Ferns rustled. The little boy pulled his trusty slingshot from his bag.
“S-stay back!” – he shouted again. He picked up a pebble and took aim as his target stepped into the clearing.
“Noah, is that y—“ – his rock clattered past Jane’s foot. – “...wow, were you aiming at me? That was really bad.”
“What are you doing out here?!” – he snapped back at his sister.
“I came to find you. – she looked confused.
“But my note said specifically not to!”
“If you didn’t want anyone to come look, why’d you leave a note?”
“I—“ – he didn’t know what to say. – “I don’t know.”
He sighed and sat down on the stump. Jane came and sat with him.
“Noah, why are you running away? Did I do something?”
“No, it’s not you. I heard Mom and Dad fighting... and Mom said the D-word.”
“What’s the D-word?”
“Um...” – should he tell her? – “Divorce. It’s when parents stop being married. And then I think  one of them goes to jail.”
“Oh...” – Jane hugged her knees to her chest, eyes watering for a single second, before her brow furrowed. – “But... how does running away help?”
“Well, it’s not supposed to help...”
“Then why do it?”
“I dunno...” - to be honest, he didn’t think much about it and the consequences. He just thought that running away was a good plan.
Then Jane stood and planted her hands on her hips.
“Well, I think you’re being selfish! If you run away, who’s gonna walk me home from school? And help me find Gizmo when he gets out of his cage? And eat the crusts off my sandwiches?”
“I don’t know... MC, probably...”
“Huh? MC hates crusts!”
“Well, she does everything else for you...”
“What’s that s’posed to mean?”
“You guys have been doing everything together! You took MC to Mr. Red’s house before you even told me about it!” – he yelled at her. Jane blinked a few times.
“Wait... Noah, are you jealous?”
“...Maybe.” – he heard himself confessing.
“Noah, listen to me.” – she took him by the shoulder and shook him. She grinned at him. – “MC is my BFF. You’re my twin. Okay?”
“...okay...”
Jane shook him again. A lot.
“Stop. Being. SAD.”
“Okay, quit it!” – he poked his sister in the armpit and she jerked away, giggling. – “Race you home!”
“Not if I do this!” – she shoved the boy backwards over the stump and took off running.
He quickly stood up and followed her home.
“Anyway, uh. That’s it.” – Noah finished his story, still hearing his and Jane's giggles in his mind. He had a smile on his lips.
“That was a cute story.” – MC grinned back at him, her hand still over his.
“Heh. Yeah. It’s kinda nice to think about something besides all this.”
“But I never knew you were jealous of me.”
“Wait, seriously? I thought it was super obvious!”
“No, not at all!” – she seemed as surprised as him.
“I mean, yeah. Jane and I were a team. After you came along, it was like...” – he struggled to find the words, then rolled his eyes. – “Whatever. Anyway, that was...” – feeling MC’s eyes still on him, he went back to staring outside. – “...that was a long time ago.”
His smile vanished as soon as it appeared. Noah wondered if he should tell her about his encounter with Mr. Red, when MC whispered:
“You want to hear something kinda messed up?”
“What?” – he looked back at her. She wasn’t smiling anymore either.
“For all the awful things he’s done, I have to admit... my life has gotten better since Mr. Red returned. If it wasn’t for him, none of you guys would have started talking to me again. He brought us back together.”
“Look, I get what you mean, but... Redfield’s a monster. He’s hurt people, and he’ll do worse the longer this goes. No matter how he tries to trick us, we can’t forget that what he wants is to drag us into that house and do the same thing he did to Jane. All he wants is power, so he can escape. We can’t let that happen. And we can’t make the same mistakes we made as kids.”
“Yeah... you’re right. So what do we do?”
Noah looked down to her notebook on the table.
“Uh, we can try to do some brainstorm? Ways of maybe stopping him?” - he saw a small smirk tugging on MC’s lips.
“We can try.”
But easier said than done. After a couple of hour of fruitless brainstorming, he and MC parted ways.
“Hey. Don’t sweat it this. We’ll find a way to fix it.” – his lips quickly turned up before going back down. – “....somehow.”
“Thanks, but... I don’t know how I’m gonna fix anything when I don’t even know what Mr. Red really is, or why he’s doing this to us.”
“I guess all we can do is judge him by his actions. Try to find a pattern.”
“Yeah... guess so.”
“So, uh... See you tomorrow?”
“Yeah.”
And, before he could go away, MC pulled him in for a hug. Noah felt a heat rising into his cheeks as he felt her arms around him. He awkwardly patted her head. She was so short.
“You know, I’m glad that you followed me today, Noah.”
“I wasn’t following you.” – she chuckled.
“Yeah, yeah. Then how did you know that I was here?” – he rolled his eyes, still blushing. She chuckled again seeing that he didn’t know what to say. – “Anyway, see you tomorrow.”
“Yeah. Text me if you think of anything, okay?”
“Okay. You do the same.”
They said goodbye and started going home. Thoughts spiraled inside his head.
That night at home wasn’t so bad. Mom still wasn’t talking to him, too hurt about what he said that weekend. He didn’t apologize to her too. So they were just trying to stay out of each other’s ways.
Not that was too different from their routine. But at least she wasn’t yelling at him.
Although he struggled a little to go back to sleep as usual, that day it didn’t take too much time to come and he fell into a dreamless sleep...
...To be awaken by his phone a few hours later. It was just before pre-dawn and he had just received a text from MC.
MC: “Noah, I think I just figured something out”
Noah: “??”
MC: “remember when we went into the woods to look for dan”
MC: “and I found Jane’s whistle?”
Noah: “yeah??” – he still was trying to woke up.
MC: “I don’t think that was just a coincidence. I think redfield left it there for me...”
Noah: “makes sense. just one more trick to lure us in”
MC: “right, except he HASN’T tried to lure us into the woods for days”
MC: “he just keeps trying to solve our problems”
MC: “attack Ben for Andy”
MC: “dealing with britney for stacy”
MC: “killing cody for me”
Noah: “what r u saying?”
MC: “what if the things he’s doing aren’t tricks?”
MC: “what if they’re just... GIFTS?”
What the fuck?! Gifts?!
Noah: “wtf”
Noah: “why would he give us gifts??”
MC: “I think maybe in the beginning, he DID need us to come back, to increase his power...”
MC: “but I think he brought us all back together because he MISSES us”
MC: “he wants us all to be friends again”
Noah: “no way! after he killed jane? and now cody!! what he’s doing is so messed up”
MC: “yeah, but think about it! he was the same way back then!”
MC: “always going just a little too far”
MC: “always playing just a little too rough”
MC: “I don’t think he understands that he’s doing anything wrong”
MC: “what if he doesn’t even understand that he killed jane???”
MC: “what if all he knows is that we had a big fight and then all pulled away from him???”
MC: “like we did from you???”
MC: “and he doesn’t understand why???”
MC: “and he thinks that if he just makes us happy, we’ll all come back and see him again???”
He was feeling seriously nauseous with that chat. What? What?!
Noah: “jfc... I think I’m gonna barf”
MC: “tell me about it”
Noah: “so what do we do about it??”
MC: “what if we just tried to talking to him?”
That was the most stupid plan he had ever heard. Or read, in that case.
Noah: “oh sure just invite him out for some coffee and have a chat”
MC: “do you have a better idea? you said it yourself, this isn’t just going to stop happening. and if anything it’s just getting worse.”
MC: “if I can fix this... then I have to try.”
Noah: “what, by yourself?”
Oh no no no no no no no no no no no no no...
MC: “if I’m wrong, I can’t risk any of you getting hurt anymore”
Noah: “wait, when are you thinking about going?”
MC: “no time like the present”
WHAT THE FUCK?!
Noah: “wait you’re going TONIGHT? like RIGHT NOW???”
MC: “If Mr. Red killed someone once, he could do it again at any time”
MC: “what if Jocelyn shows up dead tomorrow?”
MC: “Or Principal Flores?”
MC: “Or your mom?”
MC: “Or ONE OF US?”
Holy crap, MC was going nuts. She had lost her mind completely.
Noah: “ok ok, but just hold on a sec, this is crazy!”
Noah: “like what are you actually gonna DO??”
MC: “what we should have done back then”
MC: “instead of just running away”
MC: “Im gonna walk into the woods and tell Mr. Red to stop hurting people and leave us alone.”
WHAT?!

I held out as long as I could on watching the last moments. Which turned out to be 2 hours from the series finale lol. Life though, made it a little hard to find the time to put together my post about the show.
Before the finale, I was looking for a few issues to resolved. Each one was wrapped up nicely, if briefly. That being said, there is a lot to love about SWDBS and a lot that makes it worth watching. It features:
Two positive romantic prospects for the leading lady. At the beginning it’s not clear, as usual, who will be the main lead because everything I read about the show was touting both Hyung Shik and Ji Soo as the main. But once the show starts it became pretty obvious who she was going to end up with, but how was the show going to create a clear worthy partner for our leading lady without turning Gook Du into a villian, was my question. I’m happy that everything was resolved for this triangle without making Gook Du pathetic, petty or underhanded. This is the first time, since I learned to either like the lead or leave, that a drama has convinced me that there are two prospects that are worthy of female leads time. I actually teared up a little when Gook Du realized that he had missed out on confessing. Also, the fact that Min Hyuk wasn’t some sort of money hording ass bucket was refreshing.
A healthy female friendship. Bong Soon and Kyung Shim were great together. They partied together, shared secrets with each other, slept  in the same bed and encouraged each other. Not to mention that Bong Soon ends up saving Kyung Shim more than once from harm. I wish there would have been more time for them to do things together throughout the series, but Kyung Shim was always travelling from her town to Bong Soon’s so that they could hang out. It’s sad that it can be hard to list dramas that feature solid relationships between women, but at least this is one of them.
A sweet and patient male lead. Bong Soon had her heart set on Gook Du since high school, but Min Hyuk didn’t let that stop him. He didn’t try to wine and dine Bong Soon in the traditional sense by taking her shopping or to fancy restaurants. Nope, not our guy. He found out her aspirations and did everything he could to help her reach her goals. She wants to fight bad guys? He takes her through different exercises that teach her how to manage her immense strength. She want to create a video game that’s semi autobiographical? He’s the president of a company that makes video games. Even when he lets her into the company he didn’t just hand over the opportunity. He used their closer proximity to get to know Bong Soon better to teach her the skills she would need to create the game she had been dreaming about.
He may have been at times scared or awed by Bong Soon’s strength, but Min Hyuk was never upset or jealous of it. He never needed to put her down in order to make himself feel like a man. Also, their first kiss was late, by current kdrama standards. If this were any other show, I probably would have been upset, but in this case it just made sense for them to wait because Bong Soon wasn’t ready. There are just so many good things about Min Hyuk and it all stems from his patience. We’ve all seen surprise kisses or the terrible forced kiss, both of which are used as a mechanism to shake up the one leads heart and get the other to consider the one that did the kissing. These tricks have been used by both males and females, but I was so happy that it wasn’t used this time. As I’ve said before Min Hyuk wanted Bong Soon, not her capitulation, as if loving him was just the only option left. He waited for her heart and mind to change before he tried engaging her intimately on physical level.
If there is a major flaw with Min Hyuk as a character, it’s that he needs emotional reassurance because of his family background, and it caused some hurt feelings along the way. But I was willing to hop through the computer and take him if Bong Soon said ‘no thanks’ lol
An unexpected criminal to catch. I watched the first original trailer for this drama and I could have sworn it didn’t mention anything about a super creepy creeper that would terrorize the neighborhood. When I looked back at it just a few moments ago, there were little clues there would have a scary masked man doing bad things. *shrug* That just shows you how much I was paying attention when I watched that trailer 2 months ago. But seriously, I was surprised at how crazy the villain was, especially for a lighthearted comedy, but it definitely provided Bong Soon with a reason to go kick ass.
Parents that don’t actively try to break up the main couple. No matter what you thought of the dynamic between Bong Soon’s parents,  there’s no denying that they gave Bong Soon the right to choose which man she would be with, and once she chose, they didn’t give her or Min Hyuk a hard time. The opposite, in Bong Soon’s mother’s case, actually. I do wish we had seen more of Min Hyuk’s family, but I suppose the point was that they really didn’t care about him, and were, therefore, unimportant. However, Min Hyuk’s father did find Bong Soon funny. I was just glad he didn’t give the ‘but we’re rich, you can’t date a middle class girl’ speech.
And of course our strong woman. I skipped out of watching ‘Oh My Ghostess’, so I haven’t seen Bo Young since I watched ‘Werewolf Boy’ with Joong Ki, so I was blown away by how much she’s grown as an actress since then. Our girl had her own theme song, and it seriously get stuck in my head sometimes. I couldn’t help but think of some similarities between Bong Soon and Kim Bok Joo since they are both young and strong, but I liked that that is basically where the similarities ended.
But I digress. Bong Soon is really is like a video game hero. She went through the phase where she tried denying her destiny, but when she couldn’t hold back anymore, she found her sensei (Min Hyuk) and went through extensive training, if extensive is defined by trying to not to make holes in punching bags with your fist lol
I was honestly scared that this drama wouldn’t let Bong Soon face off with the bad guys she encountered, but we never see Bong Soon back down from a confrontation that needs to be resolved. And in the end, she saves the day, gets the guy and turns into a roof hoping hero!
Overall, I loved watching this show. There isn’t one episode that I would drop in order to save time telling the story. I haven’t watched a drama that made me actually literally roll with laughter throughout the entire run of the show since ‘Never Give Up Dodo’. I read that some people didn’t like the side story with the gangsters, but those scenes were just as funny to me as everything else, and kept the promise of comedy alive when things were just too serious for Bong Soon and Min Hyuk. There are so few shows that live up to their comedy genre because at some point life tries to take away your laughter, but I love that this drama didn’t give the laughs away, because no matter how bad things are, there’s ALWAYS another joke to enjoy. I really started watching this series thinking it was going to be cute but nothing special, that I might even only watch a few episodes before finding something else to get into. I’m so happy I was wrong. SWDBS is now on my list of favorites. It’s sad to say goodbye, I don’t know what I’ll watch in order to fill the comedic void. *le sigh* drama addict problems....
Anyway if you made it down to the bottom of this post, through all my rambling, thanks hehe :)
