Blog Update
The thing that bothers me about the number of followers I have isn’t the fact that I have a lot, but rather the fact that this recent surge, which accounts for more than a quarter of the total, is directly due to a post containing uncredited art that I did not create. I did a lot of things wrong making that post, I’ll be the first to admit that. I’ve done my best to fix those mistakes, though I can’t undo what I did. However, I am not comfortable with more than a quarter of my followers being people who see a post containing uncredited art and choose to follow the OP anyway.
I can’t make anyone unfollow me -- supposedly blocking someone will automatically do that but Tumblr is a massive piece of shit and didn’t update my follower count accordingly when I tried, so I don’t know if that actually did anything or not. I can’t delete because I have a lot of sideblogs I want to keep. So here’s what’s happening:
I’m divvying up the interests I post on this blog onto a number of sideblogs. This will keep everything more organized and manageable and ideally keep the follower counts down to a reasonable number. Mainly these will be divided by fandom. Not all of them are set up yet; that’s an ongoing project.
The LotR blog is currently confidential, due to the recent surge of followers being a LotR thing. I will message the URL to people I interact with regularly on LotR related stuff, but other than that I want it to stand on its own.
I have a Redwall blog at @readwall-abbey where I post theories, fanfic, fanart, and shitposts. I’m working on a Redwall fancomic that I will start posting soon at @the-dark-between-the-stars. I also run the Redwall Midwinter Gift Exchange at @redwall-midwinter-gift-exchange, a secret Santa type gift exchange for the Redwall fandom.
Tangled stuff will go to @office-of-strongbow-and-rider. I also run a 7k Roleplay Gang blog for King Edmund at @darkkingofthedarkkingdom (though it’s on hold at the moment due to work-related stress).
No general Star Wars blog, but I do run @sw-fixit-of-the-week, which is exactly what it sounds like (also currently on hold due to Covid, though I’ll probably pick it up again soon).
I also have a non-fandom-specific blog for recipes inspired by fiction at @uponthehearth-thefireisred. Aside from the recipes themselves, this includes commentary on them, adjustments, notes on what worked and what didn’t, etc.
@showmetheforbiddenknowledge is a general reference blog where I’ll reblog how-tos, drawing reference, book recs, etc.
I’m going to change the URL of this blog soon, and rohirric-recorder will become a sideblog dedicated to my fanfiction (not fandom-specific).
This blog will remain as a place to put reblogs and content from all my sideblogs that I’m especially proud of, but I’m going to try to refrain from making personal posts here anymore.
Anyway, if you got nothing else from all this get that reposting art without credit is bad.

get to know me tag
Thank you for tagging me in this @hazzabeeforlou, I am sitting on a train with surprisingly good wifi so this is a nice way to pass the time!! :)
Name:
Zodiac sign: Gemini and I never, ever identify with a single thing about what people say w.r.t. this sign unless it’s Madame Clairvoyant who writes things that are useful for all and I globally recommend her for a little bit of internet therapy. But seriously, all the stereotypical things people say about Geminis, I just feel no agreement with. Maybe I’m passionate, but Geminis are supposed to be buckwild no inhibition party machines or something and I don’t think I’m being self-deluding when I say that’s not and has never been me!
Height: 5′3.5″? I think? It’s been inconsistently measured and let me tell you inconsistent measurements is a big pet peeve of mine re: all of modern medicine. Fun fact I have long arms for my height, my arm to height ratio is like that of a pro swimmer (as with my siblings)
Hobbies: so many. too many. I write some music sometimes, obviously writing fiction but I also write poetry, I’m very into scifi and fantasy and comedy tv and movies, I have a number of active kind of hobbies like I do a lot of rock climbing and hiking and aerial silks, I am actually enough into makeup that I’d call it a hobby, I also do some artsy craftsy things sometimes like costume making--I used to sew for a job--and lately I’ve been learning more data visualization and some graphics code stuff sort of as half-hobby half work. I swim in the ocean but I’m kind of crap at it but I do make it part of my routine. Oh, and photography! I’m pretty into photography when I feel like schlepping my DSLR around. And I weight lift!
Favorite color: RED no contest
Favorite book: obviously this is an IMPOSSIBLE QUESTION for us all but some forever faves are The Once and Future King (TH White), The Wind in the Willows (K Grahame), How I Became Stupid (M Page), Angelmaker (N Harkaway), The Girl with All the Gifts (MR Carey), Cold Magic (K Elliott), the Lynburn Legacy (SR Brennan), all the Redwall books (B Jacques), Thief of Time (T Pratchett), all of the Psmith series (PG Wodehouse), The Worst Journey in the World (Cherry-Gerrard), everything by Lewis Thomas, Endurance (Lansing) and The Ghost Map (S Johnson) haha that was too many idc
Last song I listened to: Cross My Mind by ARIZONA  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Last movie I watched: hahah Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol and I watched it with my suuuuuuper hilarious, always-unfiltered very ASD aunt running commentary on it the WHOLE time and now I want to watch action flicks with her always
Inspiration/Muse: long periods of quiet and space. This is key for creative cognition!!! Knowing people who are different from me. My girl, who is brave and quiet and deep, like a miraculously folded piece of perfect origami. My two youngest brothers, who are goofy and wonderful and alive and who have never once, in their entire lives, not been supportive of me. Interaction effects, quirky strange nonfiction stories, people who are better than I am, music, going to the theater, having good food and good rest, staring into space.
Dream Job: Oh lord I have to admit it’s a fulltime writer probably. Like a crazy successful movie-selling writer, not a “fulltime churning out many books trying to pay bills” writer. :D Isn’t the dream job to not have to work that much?? But I like what I do now, and I am suspicious and want to interrogate the notion of a dream job anyway.
Reason behind my username: oh not a lot of reason lol. I had to make a new username on ao3 to post my Generally Secret and Classified Fanfic and I enjoy mundane three word phrases and it just sounded right somehow and now I even think of myself as Hello on here, so that worked out!!
if anyone feels like a tag?? @lululawrence @ham-palpert @jacaranda-bloom @allwaswell16 anyone who wants!!

Character Redesign: 2014 --> 2021
So I’m a little rusty art-wise, haven’t really drawn much in the past month or so. But I felt the distinct need to redesign Yuuki from my old digimon fanfic. His look was probably the simplest of the cast and well eventually you do grow out of putting all your characters in hoodies because they’re easier to draw than jackets.
Kept the hood though. Yuuki’s the kinda character that needs a hood.
Anyway, behold my meh art and despair!
I’ll get back into the swing of this eventually.

random thought of the day: if graphics was pronounced with a soft g it would sound like ‘giraffe-icks’ and I would love that.

Summary: "Ahem!" Jason clears his throat dramatically to announce his presence. Never a good sign.
Rating: Gen
Notes: Inspired by a comment I got on Should Have Known It All Along (which is why I went with a similar title). Could be read as a sequel to that, but it works nicely as a stand alone.
"Ahem!" Jason clears his throat dramatically to announce his presence. Never a good sign. “Whatcha up to, Red?”
“I’m working?” Tim says, slowly, suspiciously. “Why?”
Casually, Jason walks around the table, snagging a chair along the way and dragging it over so he can sit next to Tim. “Seems like you’ve been working an awful lot lately… The 3rd street heist? The arms deal a week ago? That whole deal with the venom?”
“It’s been busy,” Tim agrees with caution. “So?”
“Soooo,” Jason drags the word out for a minute. “How much sleep you been getting lately? You been eating right?”
The realization sinks in. “What did you do?”
Jason grins. Fuck. “Okay, so in the interests of your delicate health--
“Oh no.”
“I took it upon myself--”
“Jason.”
“To inform Alfred of the fact that you haven’t slept in forty-eight hours and your trashcan’s filled with nothing but energy bar wrappers,” Jason finishes triumphantly. “He’ll be over in twenty minutes.”
“I’m going to kill you.”
Jason laughs. “Love you too, Li’l Red.”

The Cringe Wave
I have been tagged by @rinthegreat, hoo boy. Okay, this has taken me a while because I wasn’t certain how far down The Rabbit Hole of my writing I wanted to go. I mean, I literally have a copy of what I know isn’t my FIRST fanfic but my first digital one I shared on twitter a while back. (Goosebumps fanfic. It was. Uh. Really bad. I was also like, 8.)
Rules:
Post a quote or short excerpt from your early days of writing/ARTING. (I’m talking old fanfics/ART, slash fics/ART, original fic/ART, etc., that are barely edited and have a ton of technical errors and misspelled words.) This is the cringe part. Don’t edit anything! Let it be horrendous. Don’t Panic.
Post a quote or short excerpt from one of your most recent works/WIPs. Something that you’re proud of. Something that you’ve written/ARTED that makes you smile when you read it.
Tag a writer/artist you admire, anyone who you think is amazing, new friends, followers, writeblrs, anyone who you’d like to know more about. If you think someone is a great writer/artist and you want to see how they’ve developed their skills, tag them! Everyone started somewhere.
The Cringe Section I went back as far as I could find save files on the external I had at hand. This lovely snippit travels from before the turn of the century, in the grand old year of 1999.
"Ech. You could think of a better place to die on, ferret brains. 'Ello, what 'ave we here? Quite the dagger, mister Rat. I don't think you'll need it anymore. Phew. Y'think after bein' dead for seasons that you'd smell better. But'cha smell worse, Pongo!"
"I say, do you always talk to yourself, or do the skulls make good conversationalists, wot?"
The skull Rogue had in his paws dropped into the wheelbarrow, shattering among the other bones. The squirrel turned. Perched on one of the ramparts a hare sat, cheekily waving his hat. Rogue relaxed a little, but not too much. You could never tell.
This is actually much better than a lot of the Redwall-inspired stuff I had lying around, but it was the only one I could find easily at hand. (Also, I didn’t want to LOOK. UGH. Ugh. That way lies suffering and pain and Edgy Pokemon Fics Named After Evanescence Songs.)  The Current Section  From a fic I’ve been dicking around with for months. God knows if it will ever actually get done though, feels like I’m fighting through molasses writing again.
Lance was kitted out in his Paladin armor still; he had, rather unexpectedly, been the one on bridge duty when Keith had sent his incoming message. Keith relaxed slightly at the sight of him, he was lingering in the door to Shiro’s room and clearly speaking with him still. There was no reason for Keith to feel like he had to hide, like he was intruding - besides, he would have to pass them to get to the head anyway, so just as he was about to push off and come around the corner casually Shiro leaned out of his room and kissed Lance.
Keith froze in place.
It was a steady but casual kiss, and Lance gave Shiro a smile - not that annoying smirk he liked to point at Keith specifically to irritate him - before giving him another quick kiss. Keith couldn’t stand to watch any further, ducking back around the corner and tilting his head back against the wall, hand curled over his chest as if to hold in his heart.
I’m turrible about tagging so anyone who writes who wants to do this consider yourself tagged and please tag me in yours so I can see yours too.

11 Questions Tag: Writer Edition!
Tagged by @mangaluva (aaaa my fave writer noticed me)
1) How many works in progress do you currently have?
Counting original works:
1. My Otherworld setting, which I am currently working on the first book of. Modern fantasy with fairies! And super involved metaphysics because I enjoy that sort of thing
2. A web video series I’m doing with a good friend based on Dungeons and Dragons, which is currently in the first draft phase.
Counting D&D stuff:
3. A running journal for my character in a friend’s medieval stasis campaign, which I really need to take some time to work on. Maybe I should just put a few lines for each session? But that would be reductive...
4. Nihularian, a D&D setting of my own, which I plan to run at the end of this month/start of next month. I made like 12 new races, and the world is the inside surface of a sphere, because I am Just That Extra.
5. Nibelung, a D&D setting that I pumped out intending to run for my sister and her friends. It’s a lot more conventional than Nihularian, but I enjoyed putting in politics and magic.
btw I plan to run Fate Core, not d20. d20 would be too complicated to build a totally original setting in.
Counting fanfiction that I’ve at least started:
6. My Pokemon self-insert series, AKA my first fanfic, which is so dead I can’t even describe how dead it is. I had planned all the regions, and then crammed The Legend of Zelda and Kingdom Hearts onto the end with the same characters, because I was small but ambitious.
7. The Multiple Personalities of Artemis Fowl, AKA my second fanfic, which is dead because I was so disappointed in The Last Guardian I couldn’t write in that universe anymore.
8. Pokestar Studio Productions, which I swear I’ll work on again someday. I thought it would be fun to write fanfic chapters based on the Pokestar Studios movies from Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. Mostly it turned out to be tedious, but rewarding.
9. Satisfaction and Skating, which is the only fic I’ve completed an arc for. Hi, Check Please fanfic! We start you now! A Hamilton/Check Please crossover fic that I wrote for the Check Please Big Bang last year. Planning to write more of it this summer.
10. A Kingdom Hearts self-insert series I was working on with a friend, but never posted. It was a fun experiment in writing with a full co-author, and I’m still slowly plugging away at it for writing practice.
And now, counting fanfiction that I have at least partially planned, 90% because @a-canker-in-a-hedge is an enabler:
11. A Check Please/Pokemon crossover I toyed with before the release of Sun and Moon last year.
12. A Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812/Jupiter Ascending crossover, 30% because it would bring a better plot and 70% so I can do lavish descriptions of SPACE BAROQUE.
2) Do you/would you write fanfiction?
See above. I mostly write fanfic, because I think it’s fun. I do try to do something original with it, though, because I wasn’t raised on the fanfic conventions by which character interactions constitute a plot. I need to have some sort of external driver to what’s happening to enjoy what I’m writing.
3) Do you prefer real books or e-books?
In theory, e-books. In practice, real books.
I like the idea of e-books because then I could get rid of so much clutter in my house, and they make so much more sense than using dead tree to store all our words. But in practice, I can’t survive without the feeling of an actual book under my hands. But I won’t write in either; that’s blasphemous.
4) When did you start writing?
My first piece I remember was in Grade 1, but that was a class assignment and it’s only notable for being the first time a teacher said that I’d been really exceptional at something. I believe that I can call that a catalyst?
I posted my first fanfiction when I was 14/15, but started working on it when I was 11/12. I started doing original work in earnest about a year ago, when I was 18, once I started seriously thinking about doing a university creative writing program.
5) Do you have someone you trust to share your work with?
That would be @a-canker-in-a-hedge for my fanfic. I’m remarkably cagey about original WIPs, but once the draft is done to my satisfaction I will throw it at literally anyone I think can give me feedback. The more perspectives I can get, the better.
6) Where is your favourite place to write?
I plan on the bus or in other public places when I don’t have other entertainments. I have great ideas in the shower (and then desperately hope I won’t forget them). When I write by hand, it’s mostly in bed or on the couch, and when I write on the computer, it’s in my university’s library that I get the most done. I try to write from my desk a lot, but it never works. Tumblr calls to me...
7) Favourite childhood book?
The Redwall series by Brian Jacques. I reread it continually from when I was in Grade 3 to Grade 6, without ceasing for almost anything else. There were just enough surprises mixed in with Jacques’ formulas that I could be interested but never shocked, which was perfect for a kid who loved everything to be just so.
You could probably qualify the border between my childhood and adolescence by the point at which I put Redwall aside for good and dove into my high school’s fiction section to finally read Percy Jackson and Septimus Heap.
8) Writing for fun or writing for publication?
I’d like to add a third option: I write online for validation. What other skill do I have that people will adulate like my writing? None, that’s the answer.
For real, though, I write because it’s my favourite thing to do, and because I hope to someday get published/self-publish. As one of the TAs in my Creative Writing class this term said, if I had to stop writing I’d probably lose my mind, so I may as well use it to its best advantage.
9) Pen and paper or computer?
I write so much better by hand, especially when I have a plan. It forces me to think through what I’m about to write before I get there, and it distills my thoughts to make them more easily transferable to other people. You better believe I do all my planning by hand: I think in flowcharts and diagrams, and putting those into a digital universe is too time-consuming and involved to be practical.
However, my writing is more spontaneous on the computer, and it ends up... passable, I suppose. Because University, I rarely have the time to do a draft by hand followed immediately by drafting on the computer, so I write directly onto the computer based on the planning I did in my notebooks. If I had the time to do it all by hand, though, I would.
10) Have you ever taken any writing classes?
I decided to become an author in a grade 6 class called Reading Writing Workshop, because I was the best at it. I do a lot of things because I like being exceptional with minimal effort.
In the term I just finished at uni, I took a class on writing for children (there was a bit of good info) and last summer I took an introductory class on fiction writing at the university level (it was useless, and the classroom smelled of cleaning products).
The purpose of taking a writing class, I think, should be to force the students to produce a large volume of good work for deadlines, because that’s what I need to improve. The craft of writing is something that I, personally, learned primarily from reading voraciously, and from large amounts of practice and getting things wrong.
11) What inspires you to write?
Screaming with @a-canker-in-a-hedge.
Seriously, though, it’s reading, and playing games, and going ‘huh. that’s not how I would do that’. And then the idea takes root and suddenly there’s a new writing project. Often, I won’t actually write it until there’s a deadline, and then it will get done and it will be wonderful but I won’t be pleased because I couldn’t do it until the last minute and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-
Anyways
I tag @a-canker-in-a-hedge, @sakura-deserved-better, @ohthewhomanity, and any other writers who happen to see this! Do the thing! Then write something!
