i think sometimes decisions are just about making your life a little more convenient or enjoyable and that's also part of surviving somehow. when you already live with a lot of deprivation, certain luxuries like ordering food or having access to media can mean a lot. sometimes these decisions aren't political; while acute boycott in support of strikes are very meaningful political actions, i think the idea of voting with your wallet is essentially neoliberal. if that's the only political action you do, then yes, harm reduction through boycott is better than nothing. but i think there are much more meaningful ways of activism and organizing you can do, that have a much greater impact.

the private is political, but it's also still private. you still have to make certain decisions by prioritizing yourself. like not being vegan bc of dietary restrictions, ordering food bc of lack of energy, ordering things you need through amazon bc of time restraints or it being the cheapest and you being poor, relying on a lot of single use plastic bc of disabilities, and paying streaming services or game subscriptions or audible or kindle or comixology to access media bc we need enrichments and sometimes those are the most viable options to us given what is available where we live and what is accessible to our disabilities.

i don't like these conversations where ppl say stuff like "it's ok bc there's no ethical consumption under capitalism anyways" or "it's ableist to tell me not to use amazon". no, both of these things are incorrect and betray an inability to understand these concepts and delineate between individualist and systemic analysis. by using these terminologies to excuse your behavior and attack those who criticize it, both you and them are focusing on an individualist perspective, but these are systemic issues. systemically, you should be outraged that you cannot escape the clutches of big brand conglomerates and that you have to rely on ordering from amazon. the system is set up in a way that keeps you tied to all these horrible corporate practices. living completely independently from the system is a utopia bc even if you somehow had, say, your own farmstead and lived entirely off the land, without anything you buy from the outside, land ownership still relies on capitalism. that's what capitalism does.

so the individualist approach to a solution is to try and boycott, and eventually fail at some point bc there will be stuff you need and that also relies on exploitation and destruction, be that your phone, be that food. again, yes, short-term boycott can be important, and also yes, long-term boycott can be successful in taking down one specific enemy. but the system stays the same. you still partake in the exploitation of workers and resources and the destruction of the planet, by virtue of being alive. that's what "no ethical consumption" means. that's why the target should be the system, and why we can't meaningfully do politics via personal responsibility. nobody wants to live in deprivation, and it's not feasible to do for a long time without losing significant amounts of health, both mental and physical, and thereby energy to organize. cause that's what we should do instead.

if you want working conditions to change, the best thing you can do is join or support a union. if you want political direction to change, the best thing you can do is join or form or support an activist group. and to be able to do that, it's important you prioritize your own well-being over perceived political purity. it's not helpful to justify that through the individualist lens, instead discard the framework altogether. do politics through action, not consumption.

I have some thoughts about US elections...

Every US election is the most important election. Yes, Project 2025 is terrifying. However, I'm not posting to tell people they should or should not vote. What I do want to do is encourage people to do more because we have been stuck in this cycle for US elections.

Every election Americans are told to "vote blue no matter who" and to "vote like your life depends on it." We are told to "vote for the lesser of two evils" and "it's not that you're voting for Person X, so much as you're voting against Person Y." "We just have to make sure Person Y doesn't win and then we can address the other stuff and push Person X to the left and we'll hold them accountable." Then if Person X loses it's "because of the nonvoters and the third party voters." But it's not the system or even the candidates put forth by the democratic party? "That's also the problem but..." Then a new election cycle comes and it's the same thing all over again.

During our current president who was "the lesser of two evils", Roe v Wade has been overturned, student loan debt repayments have restarted with not even a little forgiveness, the US has sent billions of dollars to other countries for war, migrants are still being held in cages at the border (remember the Haitian migrants being whipped by border patrol on horses? I know. I know. "But that wasn't B*den's fault!"), and more terrible things. The only difference is people who were vocal about these issues under Tr*mp are now silent or explaining things away. "Congress is stopping him! The Supreme Court is blocking him! What do you expect him to do?"

This strategy isn't working, y'all. Because it's not intended to. The American electoral system isn't meant for change. Change has never happened through voting. Meaningful gains that have been achieved in the US were through activism, real activism. Not posting on social media and not voting. Activists have created change, not politicians. Politicians take part in the system and help preserve it. On paper they represent the people, but one need only listen to what they say and look at their actions to see that the elected officials make decisions based on their own interests and the interests of whoever is giving them bribes. That along with the electoral college, voter suppression, etc. guarantee that real change doesn't happen through voting.

I'm not telling anyone they should or should not vote. What I am saying is we are told the same thing every election cycle. I see the same hostility towards individuals for their voting choice rather than the system itself. The stakes are always the highest they've ever been. The real way to fight fascism is through activism. And there's a lot of forms of activism. Protesting is effective but it's not the only way to be an activist. Form connections through community. Create mutual aid groups. Educate yourself and others, not just about what's happening currently but also the past. Understanding history is essential to understanding the present. Read political theory. Don't rely on social media or blogs. Those can be a good starting place, but don't let that be the only way you learn. Besides, it's important you form your own opinions about this stuff. Get informed and find out what is needed in your community. You can even use your art for activism.

Everyone can do their part. It seems like more effort is put into getting people to vote blue than getting people active in the community. Voting for "the lesser of two evils" is still voting for evil. Harm reduction does not occur through the political system. Also, that's about public health anyway. We need real material change. And that happens in our every day lives, not the voting booth. So if you are going to vote that's your choice. I just hope that's not where your action ends.

I'm so frustrated with news media culture

This CBS article showed up in my newsfeed. I normally don't click on articles like these, but I read the headlines. My instinctive response to this headline was "what a tepid, noncommittal response from an uncaring administration." Mainly because that's the mental framework that media & social media has taught me to use.

Then I clicked the article:

What Biden actually said was that these laws are an atrocity (they are). He literally called them "Jim Crow in the 21st Century" (completely true). He made a sweeping condemnation, taking a far stronger stance than the headline implied--stronger than the media has taught me to expect. A much more accurate headline would have been "Biden condemns Georgia election laws" or "Biden calls Georgia election laws an "atrocity"".

As a progressive, I have enough complaints about the Biden administration without media companies purposely trying to mislead me with this shit. Keep in mind the vast majority of people who read the headline will not click on the article. That is just how headlines work. And this is just one of dozens of small but incredibly harmful journalistic practices. Too many U.S. media companies consistently twist words & highlight the wrong information in order to drive wedges between liberal voting blocs while unifying the far right and I am sick of it.

Always read critically, and hold your news sources accountable.

The Glass Scientists Sunday Predictions

So uh, let me just...slide in here and pretend that it doesn’t feel like a decade has passed since I last did one of these yeah?

A lots happening nowadays, and I can’t say that I’m entirely alright now. But for this moment, let’s all just think about predictions for a webcomic character who’s not really a character but a figment of another character’s mindset but looks like that other character? Maybe this would make more sense if you read the webcomic, give yourself a couple of hours away from the news.

P.S. As of writing this the American Presidential Election is two days away, so if you can and you haven’t yet you might wanna set up a plan to go out and exercise your right and vote. Remember, you’re not just voting for yourself and your ideals, you’re voting for you and your neighbors’ lives. If you don’t believe in voting and harm reduction when lives are on the line, you might want to re-evaluate what really matters to you, because its certainly not your neighbors. Non-involvement is not some form of rebellion, it serves nobody and changes nothing.

Also don’t forget the other parts of the ballot! Look at your state elections and research candidates for your representatives, sheriffs, yes/no answers, etc. The answer as to who best serves you (or at the very least does less harm than the other ones would) when it comes to state and local elections may not be immediately obvious, especially if the candidates’ party affiliation isn’t present on the ballot itself. If you’ve already voted absentee check your voter portal to make sure its been received and check again on Election Day, especially if you’re state is one of the ones who’s being wrangled by people deeply concerned with voter fraud at the moment. Anyway tl:dr VOTE.

Okay enough nagging let’s get to the topic.

What Would Fake!Jasper Represent in Jekyll’s Head?

So in one of the chapter descriptions Sabrina Cotugno talked about Fake!Jasper being a thing in Jekyll’s mind just like Fake!Lanyon and Fake!Frankenstein. They weren’t sure if he’d show up in the noggin’, but they mentioned that Fake!Jasper might not as nice and we’d think he’d be. Which got my own noggin’ rolling? What do you mean Cotugno???

So lets explore this space a little shall we?

Fake!Lanyon and Fake!Frankenstein both represent aspirations of Jekyll’s. One is “The Perfect Gentlemen” and the other is “The Perfect Scientist.” Both of them, while not resentful of Jekyll, are more preoccupied with their own (or Jekyll’s?) roles. They’re not “good” pre se, and this might be bold to say but no one inside Jekyll’s mind is going to give him the right answer. They just serve to confirm what Jekyll believes he should aspire to be...and fails. He needs to get out of his head and talk about his darn problems with someone real! Soon as Hyde stops being a little UwU bi-

So if our Fakes serve as representatives of Jekyll’s aspirations, what would Fake!Jasper represent? Don’t forget, Jekyll’s probably only known him for about a week, so is this a new aspiration? Or is it an old one where Fake!Jasper is a new coat of paint to it? Or what if not all Fakes are aspirations and instead could be fears or doubts, what then?

Let’s dole out our options here.

Option 1 - Fake!Jasper represents Jekyll’s aspiration to be admired. This makes sense in the context that Jasper gives Jekyll attention that allows him to ignore the nightmares and troubles and so Fake!Jasper is wrapped around that new feeling, but this also makes it difficult to imagine Fake!Jasper being not-so-nice. My guess is if Fake!Jasper is based on the feeling of wanting to be admired that Fake!Jasper ignores everything unless he’s given the right kind of attention. Or he might feed others false praise, but doesn’t mean it. His advice to Jekyll would be “Well obviously you just need someone who heaps praise on you to make you feel better! That’s why I look like him, right? To just give you compliments. You don’t have to tell him anything since he’s not your real friend, just treat him nicely and everything’ll be fine :) :) :)” In other words, Fake!Jasper might not necessarily be mean, but he’s entirely focused on self-serving solutions.

Option 2 - Fake!Jasper represents a wild fervor that Jekyll used to feel when he discovered his passion for mad science long ago in a dark forest. Jasper acts pretty tame compared to the other mad scientists, but his writing and his presentation is literally overflowing with what he discovers and is fervently exploring in his studies. Fake!Frankenstein represents the perfect mad scientist, but Fake!Jasper represents somebody who loves mad science. Except why is he not nice? Because Jekyll wants to tame this part of Jasper, hide all that passion behind gold trimmings and clear glass where no one else can see it. Doesn’t Jekyll dislike this part of his own self, hiding and putting away all the passion he had to make himself presentable? So obviously Jekyll doesn’t want to acknowledge what Fake!Jasper represents, so Fake!Jasper will do Jekyll a favor and avoid being in his line of sight.

A fun idea I thought in my head back when we first met the nightmares was the idea of Fake!Jasper treating the nightmares the same way Jasper treated his creatures. Not as monsters to fear or specimens purely to study, but as living beings to be respected and cared for like anything else. I think its fitting since we met both the nightmares and the creatures in the same chapters, its just that Jekyll sees the two groups as separate, whereas Fake!Jasper might have a different perspective. By that I mean Jekyll himself could find a different means of seeing the nightmares, but that’ll probably be awhile.

Option 3 - Fake!Jasper represents Jekyll’s doubts, because unlike Jekyll, Jasper can never truly hide his “monstrous self.” He’s the werewolf we met on the streets, snarling and afraid. If Jekyll approaches, he might get bitten. Fake!Jasper doesn’t trust Jekyll, like how Jasper may not trust Jekyll, or how Jekyll might not trust himself. It could also be that Jekyll in fact can’t trust anyone with his problems and not just that he doesn’t see himself as trustworthy. Fake!Frankenstein might try to study Fake!Jasper the same way she studies the nightmares, like a new phenomenon.

That’s all I have to think of for now! I might have more ideas of what Fake!Jasper may be next week, or I might just going into next-page prediction instead...if there’s a Sunday Predictions next week at all. Its a bit of a toss-up whether I’ll be back into this weekly or not. We’ll just have to see!

STOP TRYING TO GET ME TO VOTE FOR BIDEN.

Okay. Look. If you plan to vote for Biden, I won’t stop you. And I understand.

But I would like to make a few points as to why I personally will NOT be voting for Biden.

We do actually have other options. Biden is evil, not just “less than perfect,” but actually evil. Donald Trump is not the cause of our problems, and this becomes especially clear when you look at the behavior of past Democratic presidents and when you apply a little Marxist theory regarding the State. Also A Biden victory is in itself a form of harm, not harm reduction.

1) WE DO ACTUALLY HAVE OTHER OPTIONS BESIDES VOTING FOR BIDEN.

First of all, the fact that you can even mention 3rd and sometimes even 4th and 5th party candidates indicates that: Yes, we LITERALLY DO have other options. Are they LIKELY to win?

No. But only because people don’t vote for them. We are not trapped in a two party system, though we may be trapped psychologically. It IS actually possible to create new political parties, and for existing small parties to grow into large parties. This is a long-term goal, and probably not something that will happen by November. But the first step is to realize that the democratic party are not our friends.

Second, and most important, voting is a tiny plastic water gun in the vast nuclear arsenal we have at our disposal when it comes to political activity. Historically speaking, even the most nasty and reactionary asshole presidents suddenly start acting REAAAAAL progressive when they are faced with mass populist movements causing civil unrest. This also applies to senators, congresspersons, and members of the court. Remember Richard Nixon passing landmark Women’s Rights legislation? In fact, the level of political activity of the masses is 8 millions times more important than who is in the Whitehouse.

Where we should really be focusing our efforts is in organizing and movement building. Protest. Go on strike. Propagandize. Obstruct. Disrupt. And most importantly:

JOIN AN ORG! Join an org. Join an org. Join an ORG! Join labor unions. Join political parties. Join non-profits. Becoming a dues-paying member of a Socialist organization is worth a thousand votes. You will meet experienced comrades who know the ins and outs of political activism, who will show you the ropes, and will put you to work doing something productive.

Join the Democratic Socialists of America. Join the Industrial Workers of the World. I’m a member of a political party called the Socialist Alternative.

2) BIDEN ISN’T “LESS THAN PERFECT.” HE IS A MUSTACHE TWIRLING SUPERVILLAIN.

Biden is not a Liberal. He’s a center-right conservative. He embraces Neoliberal policies that leave working class people to die in poverty and debt. He has made no serious attempts to cater toward Bernie’s base. He is unspeakably Racist, and actually wrote the bill that created Mass Incarceration as we currently know it.

As part of the Obama Administration he was complicit in all of Obama’s abominable atrocities. From the drone strike program which killed countless civilians, to the escalation of a draconian surveillance state, to the mass deportation of 3 million immigrants. Obama created the structures that Trump is currently using to terrorize immigrants, minorities, and protestors. And he created them for the very purpose Trump is using them for. Biden was there every step along the way. Biden has espoused violent rhetoric about doing violence against protesters, arresting people with certain political beliefs, and condoning police brutality.

Biden is better MAAAAYYBE better only on 2 issues. Abortion rights and LBGT rights. And while those issues are important. I highly doubt he will make any progress on those issues.

Biden has said over and over again that he would pander to the republicans and compromise with them every chance he gets. He certainly has stated callous disregard for the lives of working class people. And we can only assume that he will betray women’s rights and LBGT rights the moment he finds it politically convenient.

And don’t give me crap about RBG. Biden will not replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg with another liberal. He will replace her with a centrist, or do what Obama did and let the Republicans pick the replacement for him. And also the supreme court is a tyrannical, undemocratic institution anyway and should probably just be abolished full-stop.

Joe Biden’s rhetoric isn’t even less fascistic than Trump's either. He says his racist, sexist, anti-working-class sentiment out loud.

And with his billionaire and corporate backers, he certainly can’t be trusted to act on climate change.

He will not respond positively to the pandemic either. He has expressed out loud no plan of how HE would handle the pandemic, and if his democratic colleagues in congress give us a clue… well, the Dems have been incredibly stingy with their money, refusing funds for relief for the working class. They have not put up a serious fight for any measures to actually stop the Virus’s spread.

If he’s the “Lesser of Two Evils.” He is just evil.

3) IT DOESN’T ACTUALLY MATTER WHO THE PRESIDENT IS.

Trump is not actually the cause of our problems. He isn’t. Donald Trump is a fat asshole with a desk job. Donald Trump did not invent racism. He did not invent sexism or xenophobia or hatred against the LBGT+ community. If Donald Trump died tomorrow, the forces of reaction would carry on their merry way. Donald Trump is in office because he is willing to carry out policies that are favorable to the ruling class. And the moment he stopped doing that, he would be quickly disposed of, either by impeachment or by a military coup.

And in fact, the violence we are seeing from the Trump administration comes from the way the government itself is constructed. Not from some diseased ideology unique to the American Right Wing.

So let’s think about this a little more carefully. Why do we have a government in the first place? You know, a government, the “state,” the law itself? It’s not to negotiate peace between different conflicting segments of society, because they are obviously very bad at that. It’s not to ensure the public good and protect the rights of the citizens. Because the government doesn’t really do that either.

And this isn’t just a problem when Republicans are in power. See my previous examples of Obama’s unspeakable atrocities.

The reason we have a government is to enforce and maintain class based society. The State is nothing more than Armed bodies of men who exist for the purpose of allowing one class to suppress another class. The government’s job is to suppress uprisings, control the working class, assume risk on behalf of the capitalist class, and to fight wars on behalf of the capitalist class. That’s why the Feds are kidnapping protestors. That’s why immigrants are being put in cages. That’s why the police harass and intimidate Black people. To maintain and enforce the power structure.

All of these bad things happened when Obama was president. And All of these bad things will continue to happen if Biden is elected. This violence we’re seeing isn’t the result of Trump. You can’t even call this violence Fascism, because this is NORMAL. Fascism is a specific political phenomena that occurs under very specific circumstances . This violence is literally just the government doing its job. It’s worse now because the economy is going through a rough patch, which isn’t the government’s fault, it’s just because Capitalism is unstable.

The Right and Left Parties represent different segments of the ruling class, and the election process is about the ruling class negotiating differences among itself. The democratic party does not represent the interest of regular people like You and me, and you DO NOT OWE THEM YOUR VOTE.

2) VOTING FOR BIDEN ISN’T HARM REDUCTION. IT IS ITSELF A HARM.

A Biden Victory could have several negative consequences.

The democratic party will continue its decades-long drift toward the right. The democratic leadership will see once and for all that they can get away with running any evil sleazy candidate they want who will serve the interest of their corporate benefactors, and that the public will remain loyal as long as they coat their sleeziness with “Woke” rhetoric. If the Democrats learn that you will vote for them no matter what they do, then your vote loses all of its power.

It could trigger violent backlash from Trump’s far-right base.

It gives legitimacy to an ultimately UNdemocratic system which is breaking at the seams.

It could pacify a lot of the militant, but less educated segments of the working class who have swallowed the rhetoric that Biden is their ally. They will disperse from the streets, meanwhile Biden is free to continue the violent, racist, war-hawkish, neoliberal agenda that Trump, Obama, and Bush did before him.

CONCLUSION

Joe Biden is not our friend. The Democratic Party are not our friends. Trump is awful, and he sucks. If we DON’T vote for Biden, Trump may very well win the Presidential Race. But considering that Biden himself is very evil, and that Trump is not the true cause of the violence and hatred we see coming from our government, the stakes in this race are a lot lower than you have been led to believe.

A protest vote could send a strong message to the Ruling Class that we are not satisfied with racist, violent, neoliberal leadership, and that we want real change.

Also, we actually are NOT stuck in a two party system. There is a growing movement within the United States to create and grow a worker’s party that represents truly progressive ideas, one where regular people hold party leadership directly accountable, and the party is forced to serve our interests instead of those of the ruling class. The first step in building such a party is to let the Democrats go, and stop placing our hopes in people who do not care about us.

But the most important thing to remember:

The ballot box is not the end-all and be-all of political activity. The ruling class has created this little ceremony of “voting,” inviting us working class folks to come and play their little game of “pick the dictator,” and giving us the illusion that this makes a real difference. But we have no way of holding politicians in office accountable when they break their campaign promises, and we are only allowed to vote for options the ruling class allows us to see on the ballots.

We DO have power to change the system, but we have to do it outside the ruling-class’s terms. We have to be organized and active and militant enough that the ruling class believes we pose an actual threat to their authority.

We have to do the type of things we currently see American’s doing in the streets right now. Causing a major disruption, threatening the capitalists’ profits, and threatening the politicians’ sense of authority and control.

But we have to remain organized and militant even after the current wave of protests dies down. And we do that by building left wing institutional power -- by JOINING ORGS.

JOIN A GOD DAMN ORG YOU COWARDS.

Loyalty Chapter 30: Introduction to the league

Kayn Pov

Time passed and Kayn became involved in the league. He went to training to get to know the system and the different champions. Together with Xayah and Rakan he sat in a training room and was hit by PowerPoint slides. Sometimes he hates modern technology. Just using his cell phone proved to be exhausting. Feeling every minute he had to annoy Zed because of odds and ends. The biggest difficulty was to gently touch the screen. Kayn did not trust the technology. Nevertheless, he learned to deal with it.

After the training series, the two birds were introduced and Kayn was still hanging around with Zed. After all, he could tell the staff how he would like his room. Actually, he wanted to have it just like Zed did. The bed was only allowed to have the structure of a boxspring bed. However, he needed the black curtains for his master, so he feels comfortable with him. By now they were a real couple only without sex. More than oral and mutual pressure reduction was not in it. Kayn did not feel ready and Zed became nervous about sex. Besides, they would never do it in front of Rhaast. He was often with his brothers. Kayn actually made friends with Varus. As stated by Zed, he often showed himself with him in public.

They ate together and often talked about this and that. He had not learned more about Darkins. Somehow, only Aatrox was a real chatterbox and a nuisance. He loved to graduate the beings around him. Kayn hated such disrespect. But that was nothing compared to what Yasuo always pulled off. He always pushed it to the extreme with his stupid flute. Kayn often argued with him about the place under the tree. The young acolyte wanted to meditate and the drunken samurai only plays the flute. Two things that harmonized with each other. Every time Yasuo bothered him, he showed him part of his darkened form. It went so far that Kayn was able to corrupt himself. Sounds bad, but that only showed him how much power he had over Rhaast. He did not need him to strengthen his arm. He could do it alone now.

Kayn stayed away from the other factions as far as possible. The confrontation with Darius was a lesson to him. He focused mostly on Zed, his training and his neighbors. As good as he went, he slipped into the other and played the sympathetic young man. Even between him and Ahri, everything was as if nothing had ever happened. Only Akali did not buy the charade from him. She remained skeptical until the end. Only good that she had no vote in the council, but her master Shen. He understood himself better and better with Zed. Had something to do with the fact that Zed behaved halfway.

An anti-human, human rights abusing, bigoted, reactionary, anti-democratic and anti-intellectual force is now in control of all branches of government. It needs to be completely removed from power everywhere and replaced with a humanistic, feminist, progressive, socialist, environmental and human rights politics. improve science literacy (knowledge but more importantly scientific thinking); we need much better compensated teachers, new incentives for teaching science, and better ways of teaching it

laws or a constitutional amendment to require public policy to adhere to the best available evidence
