Thank you for the tags @inlocusmads and @alleykatart !! Here are three random facts (...and some bonus ones too) about me!
This fact is very embarrassing and bisexual. In my junior year of high school, I had a very huge stupid crush on a girl in my English class. It was so bad. I cringe every time I think about it. Oh my god. I can’t stop cringing. It was so intense my top two songs on Spotify wrapped for that year (2022) were Brand New City AND Once More to See You by Mitski. I would bake for her – with her knowledge of course – at least every other week because I didn’t know how else to express my first-time sapphic yearning LOL. (Also fun fact, I came out as bi in 2018)! She drew me as a ‘thank you’ gift and I still have it hung up on my wall :’) Anyways. You do really cringy stupid shit as a high schooler. Also, I found out she did not like me back after I just spent three hours baking her a heart-shaped cake the week before Valentine’s Day. I was crushed haha.
I’ve always loved writing and literature. In elementary school, my two best friends and I would spend every single recess and lunch break writing little stories together. One of said friends and I wrote this horrible cliche story about two twin sisters – who were essentially gothic copies of us – called Raven and Evelin Moonblood. GOD. We were super obsessed with Supernatural at the time and it was…so bad lol. I stopped writing after middle school, and I got back into it years later – in my senior year of high school, I took a creative writing course and loved it. I wrote a short story called It’ll Pass that was very obviously inspired by Fleabag and I was so proud of it. (I still am). I also wrote a short 10-minute play called Made with Love about a Filipino woman cooking her late Mom’s sinigang recipe and obviously, it inspired me to write my very first Crimes fic of the same name!
Horror has always been my favorite genre ever. I love Asian horror films and analog horror, and even as a kid, I was super into cryptids and creepy shit like the Bermuda Triangle. It’ll always be my favorite genre to write, too, and I will GLADLY write like a thousand AUs of Emily and Trystan going through the bleakest horrific shit ever.
And some bonus mini-facts about me because I just will never shut up about myself lol…
4. The dog Emily and Trystan have, Twilight, is named after my real-life dog who looks a lot like her :) Though, mine is a pittie and not a boxer like in-game. I love her so much. She turns six in June, and every year on her birthday I cook her a little meal – usually with pumpkin puree and plain chicken.
5. My writing routine is very annoying. I must always write at night – at least in the dark – and I have to either listen to jazz compilations on YouTube or listen to nothing at all. I usually write in my bed – which is a shit habit I’m trying to break – and I also have a horrible posture because of it lol.
Anyways, that’s all the facts I can think of. Below is a list of tags from the top 6??? people that come up – no pressure whatsoever :)

Note
ugh I hated those "universal female experience = fleabag and mitski" posts. I'm a sort-of cis woman and those takes nearly ruined fleabag for me like I just can't view it the same... and god forbid you point out that mitski's relationship to gender is going to be informed by her experiences as a woc... anyway THANK YOU for saying it king you are braver than I
honestly i stopped watching fleabag on that episode of was just too :// and YEAH gender essentialism really erases any other experiences that inform the way people experience the world, the takes are often very white and very often come from a middle class point of view.

reflecting on the decade!!!!!
not sure how this happened but tomorrow it’s literally going to be 2020 and i’m not at all going down a mental spiral over how time is just a social construct or the fact that i’ll have lived a quarter of a century in a few months nope
anyway i thought it would be fun exercise in self-reflection to compile a list seeing how my tastes/beliefs have changed throughout the 2010s from start to finish. for reference: start = high school (i graduated in 2012); middle = college/gap year (i graduated in 2016); and end = med school (i’m in my 3rd year now). here we go...
music (as told by favorite albums):
start: riot by paramore; lungs by f&tm; tourist history by two door cinema club; wincing the night away by the shins
middle: the idler wheel... by fiona apple; electra heart by m&td; a is for alpine by alpine; hozier by hozier; art angels by grimes
end: sufjan’s discography; sugar by brockhampton; high highs to low lows by lolo zouai; be the cowboy by mitski; el mal querer by rosalia; wasteland, baby! by hozier
television faves:
start: gossip girl, the vampire diaries, house md, arrested development
middle: bbc sherlock (we all liked it!!!!!! don’t lie), community, hannibal, 30 rock, orphan black
end: killing eve, crazy ex gf, broad city, bojack horseman, fleabag, iasip (it deserves a mention....)
film faves:
start: i was that (500) days of summer bitch
middle: i was that pulp fiction film bro bitch
end: i am that a24 bitch
books!
start: i read so much in high school but i don’t think i had a favorite standalone back then. i remember really being into the inheritance cycle and john green lmao
middle: during college i’d read what i needed to read for my english minor classes but that was honestly mainly it. i read quite a lot during my gap year and i think my favorites were the goldfinch and the emperor of all maladies
end: i still don’t read as much as i should. i did read the namesake earlier this year and it resonated with me in a way that no book really has before
other side interests:
start: writing fiction! i had so many stories i wrote and one that really sticks out in my mind is about heaven and hell being at odds and there being royal families in both realms but the two princes got switched at birth and also there was a girl on earth who had weird visions and she’d save the day while also falling in love with the heaven prince who was actually from hell (can y’all tell i read a lot of paranormal fiction in high school)
middle: playing ukulele, bullet journaling (for like 3 months before i gave up), food network shows, idk i was pretty boring in college
end: i’m still boring now... one of my goals for next year is to curate more hobbies for myself
mbti:
start: INTJ (!!!!!! lmao)
middle: ISFJ
end: so i just took an mbti test for fun and i got INFP. what does it all mean.gif
best and worst quality (according to myself):
start: best - my creativity; worst - how arrogant and close-minded i was
middle: best - being hardworking; worst - how i neglected taking care of myself
end: best - letting myself have a big heart; worst - chronically procrastinating
my goals:
start: did i have any real substantial goals back then? unsure
middle: get into med school (back in college i wanted to go into neurosurgery of all things.... wow)
end: become a doctor of course, but also to work on letting myself be vulnerable towards others, put work into my relationships, and cultivate a healthier mindset of myself and the world around me
how i see myself:
start: tbh all i had going on for myself in high school was doing well in school, so i put in all my worth in my grades. i was a bit arrogant about it too. something that haunts me every day is an assignment we had in AP lit on ‘the awakening’ by kate chopin where i wrote these words verbatim: “i am, by no means, a feminist.” genuinely thought i was straight and would make a point to mention how i was only into white guys..... i really would not have been friends with myself.
middle: college was confusing. i still put in a lot of my self-worth into my grades but i went to a competitive university and got hit with a fat reality check pretty early on into my time there. i also think it took me going far away from home to embrace my cultural heritage and get closer to my mom and sister. i was also starting to realize i wasn’t really into guys. i think i liked who i was a little more... i could be friends with her.
end: the other day i met someone completely new and the way i introduced myself was “hi i’m upasana” and the next thing i’d immediately followed up with was “i’m a med student.” it didn’t come from a place of wanting to brag or anything like that - i think it’s genuinely how i mainly identify myself right now because of how much of my time school takes up. my other identifiers (all of which i’ve grown to be proud of) - indian, lesbian, sister, daughter, friend. i still have a lot of growing to do, and i’m scared, but i’m also a little thrilled to see where i go.

alrightt here we go: 1, 2, 8, 15, 29? 💖🌷✨
aw hi lovely thank you !
1. if someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to?
oh! ok i probably have a lot of answers so i’m going to go ahead and steal your way of answering and go with um
read: oh where to begin,,, well not very deeply but first of all - tea dragon society by kay o’neill because that’s where my current profile picture comes from so that would probably help one ~understand~ my profile hfndjsj; otherwise, i feel like sherlock holmes is an obligatory answer because i was so obsessed with it and it’s still a big part of my life,, aand i’m going to go ahead and say heartstopper & radio silence by alice oseman (or any of her other books tbh) because i relate to a lot of the characters so :’)
watch: i mean, i myself haven’t watched it since it came out but the farewell (2019) made me cry because i related to it so much, and minari (2020) on a similar note, oH also submarine (2010) i feel like is me in my all my teenage essence so ,, that one . also maybe rocky horror/howl’s moving castle/scott pilgrim/ etc etc - ah and for shows: definitely at least an episode of doctor who and some killing eve (and/or fleabag) for good measure
listen to: the rise and fall of ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars by david bowie ! i don’t think any other album (or artist) means as much to me, short of maybe blue by joni mitchell,, oh also i have to say all things must pass by george harrison, and anything by the smiths because no matter how much i hate them,,they lowkey epitomise my sad little life — as for songs, oh i actually made a whole playlist like this once upon a time but i should redo it,, Anyways: dreams by cranberries, teen idle by marina, hunger by florence+the machine, your best american girl by mitski (ding ding ding guess the ever-present and ever-troubling facet of my identity hfhndndjsjs)
2. have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?
oh i love this question but ..... i may have to say no? honestly i feel like i get a lot of my thinking from what i read or i change/question/challenge my thoughts based on other writer’s perspectives so i’m not sure i’ve really read something and went: oh hey this is like how i think; then again i still need to read more however i’m still going to answer this with: ocean vuong, elizabeth miki brina, natsume sōseki, and a bit of yeats and sappho ?? on second thoughts this is hard to answer, moving on-
8. what musical artists have you most felt connected to over your lifetime?
david bowie!!!! and florence + the machine and mitski<3 like all the other questions i could go on for eons but those are my semi-definitive answers<3
15. five most influential books over your lifetime.
love all the book related questions hdjsj thaaank you, anyways i don’t think this should be too hard?
the phantom tollbooth by norton juster - the question does say ‘over my lifetime’ and my life isn’t particularly long atm so ... it might not actually be super influential but it was one of my favourite books in primary school and i didn’t read allll that much so i think it’s all the more special :)
emma by jane austen - im bypassing sherlock holmes ahh sorry that too has been super significant and influential in my life but i haven’t talked about emma yet! i read it in 2017/when i was 12 and starting high school and- i guess it was one of introductions to literature, yknow? or classic literature more specifically i suppose ,, twas also my introduction to the school library aka my one and only saviour throughout high school— besides in general i had a good time reading it and i would discuss it with my english teacher and that was nice
catcher in the rye by j.d. salinger - i’m more tentative to include this and a lot more uncertain because i don’t really talk about it plus the book is so often considered a Red Flag buuut, i read it sometime in 2019(?) and my reasoning for including it is similar to emma but also because i had such a shit time in high school and angsty teen holden was pretty comforting to read hmdnfjsj (also essentially any book i read during school [not for school, that is] is very dear to me and is worthy of a spot on this list<33)
six of crows by leigh bardugo - ! so i read this in august of last year, and,, it basically kickstarted my reading obsession - which is still very much ongoing (for reference, prior to last year i would read maybe maximum 8 books a year? and before august and soc i had only read like 4 (half of which were for school) whereas in the months following that august up to now i have read uhhhh hundreds) so i feel like every book i have read since then i owe to six of crows !
sir gawain and the green knight - alright last one because i’m not sure what else to include but it’s one of my most read books/poems and one of the first arthurian things i read so<3
29. three songs that you connect with right now.
my death by david bowie, june by florence + the machine, aand is this what you wanted by leonard cohen !
