And I swear to God if your only reasoning for this is that they're alters in the same body and/or in the same system I need you to sit down right in front of me, better yet lay down and listen to me very carefully.

Being in the same body/system does not equate to being related in any way. I've seen people say that "Doppio and Diavolo are brothers!" No they're not. They're two alters in a system. Similarly, I've seen other people say that - and this is even stranger because where they got this from I have no clue- Diavolo is also Doppio's dad like he's Trish's. No, he's not. They're alters in a system. Even if we go based on canon and throw fanon and headcannons out the window, their relationship outside of being the Boss and his right-hand man is never specified. Literally all we have to go on is that Doppio is comforted by Diavolo's presence and that Diavolo refers to him almost exclusively with words of endearment. This could be platonic, sure. Familial? Possible, but highly unlikely.

I'm not saying that alters in a system can't be related. The alters that our brains cook up can be anything, and familial relationships between alters is a thing. But specifically in the case of Diavolo and Doppio, this is never stated. Therefore, while you are allowed to headcanon them as such, do not force that headcanon onto others when it's not true in the source media.

And if you think that DiaDop is proship because it's an in-system relationship, buddy do I have news for you. Alters have in-system relationships all the time. I, myself, am in an in-system relationship with the Sheila E in our system. Another friend of ours has an in-system relationship in their system. System friends that I knew before that we don't talk to anymore had in-system relationships, and I've seen other systems online talk about their own in-system relationships.

If your only problem with DiaDop is that they're in the same body/system, I can only assume you're a singlet and to that I say:

Fuck off. If you don't know enough about how systems work, you don't get to make that decision. Especially if the decision in question is accusing a harmless ship of being incestuous or pedophilic. “And now I pronounce you, husband and husband.” A smile spreads across both of y’all’s faces, both of you wrapping your arms around each other giving a loving kiss as flowers had been thrown around, the music had set off and cheering filled both of your ears. This moment had completed both of y’all it felt so amazing, like your hearts have been filled.

The celebration and wedding continued everyone who was invited, everyone enjoying themselves congratulating the two of you. “I can’t believe your getting married alreadyyyyy, Diaaa your gonna leave me all alone !” Doppio had been a mixture of happy and sad on your wedding day, he’ll miss Diavolo he was like a brother to him and now they might not be in touch much.

“Do worry Doppio, I will still keep in touch with you once me and (m/n) settle in I still love you..though I love (m/n) more.” Diavolo laughs while Doppio gives an offended face the so called tears welling up in his eyes as he turns away from Diavolo dramatically and runs over to cling onto telling you how much he got his fingers hurt.

“Dia ! Don’t say such things to Doppio it’s so rude of you !” You were never one to be rude to others on special days, especially ones like these, being one of the best days of your life. You couldn’t wait to settle in with the love of your life. That’s all the both of you ever wanted.

But that didn’t go so well. You had recently gotten more tired, and weak soon enough finding out you’ve caught an illness. You both thought the illness would pass soon enough, but it didn’t. It gameplays getting worse and worse until finally you two agreed you needed to see a doctor. The news that had gotten delivered to the both of you broke your hearts that were once filled.

Though you could say Diavolo was hurt the most even though you were the one with the illness. “Your husband seems to have and advanced liver disease.” Diavolo gave him a look. “Which means ?” The doctor sighs, taking off his glasses hesitating to get the sentence to come out his mouth. “Your husband…doesn’t have much longer..his life has been cut short due to it.” A slight gasp could be heard coming out your mouth as your eyes widened in fear.

“B-but doctor ! Isn’t there anyway to cure it ? Please tell me there’s a way ! I can’t just die like this please ?” Tears were rolling down your cheeks and quick the doctor had shaken his head denying that your life could be saved. “Your illness is terminal, we might be able to do a surgery to lengthen your life a little bit more..but that’s the best we can do for you sirs.”

The whole time you and the doctor had gone back and forth Diavolo had stayed silent. The words of the doctor repeating in his head saying you wouldn’t be able to live for much longer. He had been looking down the entire time his pink dotted hair covering his face of pain. A shiny object had caught his eye, it was the wedding ring. A real diamond as well. Fuck. No, no, no, no, no. You had just gotten married to this man you can’t die now. You can’t leave him now. He loved you. He loved you so dear.

Time had passed of you and the doctor arguing about your own damn life you and Diavolo were already in the car. “Dia…I know you might not have been listening..but I said no to the surgery..” He instantly turned to you with and upset and worried look in his face gripping the wheel to the car. “What ?!? Why ?? What the hell is wrong with you ! Why didn’t you take that chance ! I could’ve been with you longer-“ “Listen to me Dia !” The whole car went silent you calming down and taking deep breaths. “I’m not getting the surgery because I I’m not going to waist my time waiting for something that won’t even heal itself. By the time my surgery will heal up, Diavolo you won’t understand I’ll be gone !”

You were right. And he knew you were right but if he could just hang onto for a little longer. Just for a little longer..he wanted to keep you with him. Hold you tight in his arms and never let you go.

The next few days were horrible for you and him. Spending most of your days in bed as he watched you whither away, all of the medicines he’s given you being useless to you not even fixing the pain deep within you. He wished that you’d magically get better someday, just one day you’d pop up back to normal and be able to get up and spend time with him. But deep down. Deep down he knew that wouldn’t happen. Deep down he knew your death would come someday. He wasn’t ready. And he knew damn well he wasn’t ready for that.

“Dia !” You yell out to him jumping up and giving him the biggest hug you could ever give in your entire life. He looks at you sunrise then making you get off of him. “Jesus (m/n) ! What..what the hell are you doing out of bed !” You smile up at him brightly. “That’s the thing ! I don’t need to be in bed anymore I feel alllll better now ! And now I can stay with you forever !” He couldn’t get a word out. He was so happy and so glad that you were there with him again. That you wouldn’t leave him anymore.

The few days with you were amazing, for some reason to his confusion you never wanted to go outside with anyone, your excuse was you wanted to stay with him and not go out and see other people because you missed being with him so much. Out of happiness of course he let you do as you please making him not leave the house much, other than go out for his job and to go and get food for y’all to enjoy.

“Y’know Dia..I really love you.” “Hm ? Of course I know that. Why are you saying all of this.” You take his hand specifically his ring finger in your hand and start twisting and turning it a bit. “Sometimes I wish we could go back to our wedding day. I really loved that moment.” He wanted to as well. He loved spending all that time with you and his friends. “But dear I’m right here with you so there’s no need to worry.” You give him a loving smile giving him a peck in the lips.

“Your right. I should be great fun of what I currently have. You.” Before he could speak the phone had rung. “One sec dear.” You nod letting go of his hand letting him answer the house phone. “Hello Vinegar residence.” “Hey Dia..how’ve you been ! What have you been up to.” “Oh nothing much really just spending more time with my husband is all.” The line went quiet. It was quiet for quite a long time. “I’m coming over. Stay were you are alright.” “Wait but-“ the telephone line cut as Diavolo sighs setting the phone down and heading back to we’re you both we’re sitting.

“Who was that love ?” “Oh no one it was just Doppio coming to check in, he said he was coming over yet he didn’t tell me why. He just hung up right after he said it.” Your smile dropped but quickly going back into a smile right after. “Well, I can’t wait to speak to him again it’s been a while !” After some moments there was a knock at the door, Diavolo getting up to answer it seeing Doppio at the front door giving him a worried look.

“Hey, can I come in ?” “Oh yes of course no need to ask your always welcome.” He nods stepping past Diavolo and entering his house sitting down at the bar like kitchen. “So what brings you here-“ “Dia we need to talk.” Doppio said sternly Diavolos face turns into a serious one as all his attention was focused on his brother. “What is it ?” Doppio takes a deep breath in and out. “Dia..you said you were hanging out with (m/n) correct ?” He nods. “Dia…Diavolo (m/n) is dead.” “Ha..what ?” Diavolo looks over at your hurt face as you look back at him giving him the saddest smile he’s ever seen. “Seems I’ve been found out..it was nice spending these moments with you.” And in the blink of an eye you were gone. The space in the couch were you used to be was gone. Nothing there but the wrinkled covers spread out.

“Dia…Dia look at me !” His eyes snap to Doppios. God did his heart break right then and there after seeing his brothers hurt face. His face of realizing the reality. “B-but Doppio..Doppio he was right there this whole time I coulda sworn-“ his vice choked back die to tears welling up. He broke down instantly at the realization. You were gone. And that was it. You were really gone. He couldn’t get I’ve that fact so he made you up again. His mind made you think you were there but in reality he couldn’t except it. So one could.

Doppio grabs his brother pulling him close trying to comfort him in his arms. “Hey, hey I know..I know let it all out..it’s okay.” About and hour or two of tears Doppio finally spoke up. “Come live with me for a while alright ? You can’t live in this house by yourself anymore. You need someone with you now.

All he did was nod, heading to the car that belonged to Doppio as the silent drive went kon.

thoughts/feelings on slightly-better-dads au where the diadops adopt trish into a life of supernatural crime instead of a life of attempted murder? failing that: who r the best and most fun/disastrous ot3 candidates?

GOSH THESE ARE BOTH THINGS I'VE DEVOTED A LOT OF THOUGHT TO SO PARDON ME FOR BIG BIG INFODUMP

okay, so the first scenario is... legit a scenario my partner and i are playing with in roleplay right now... so this is a pretty well-built series of thoughts that i'll try to boil down into something comprehensible

but first and foremost, I think that it's interesting if the early part of Diavolo/Doppio and Trish's history is identical up to a certain point- ie, Donatella gets knocked up during a fling, raises Trish alone, and passes when Trish is 15. I think there's something really compelling about Trish still having to build a relationship with this utter stranger that is her father? Especially with Diavolo taking her under his wing as a pupil for crime, because I think like.... If he raised her from birth, I think Diavolo would be a very different person than he is now, and I don't think he'd have nearly the same philosophy on running Passione, since I feel like a lot of his insistence on power and utmost secrecy was at the heart of his position, and if he had people who knew him and spent time with him he'd be a drastically different person than a person who essentially spent every moment of his life alone. But if he's still Diavolo- if he's still been alone until now, and he still has Passione wound tight under his control, and he hadn't tried to kill Trish to wipe clean his identity, I could see him interested in the idea of legacy. Like... Diavolo has only ever trusted one person with the full breadth of viewing all of Passione as a whole- he only has one underling that is allowed in the position of underboss- and he knows for a fact that when he dies, that person will die with him. There would be a massive power void if Passione were to dissolve, but there would also be a whole bloodthirsty mess of infighting for the position and a possible schism if it were to be proven that Passione was without a leader. So I find it really interesting thinking about Diavolo seeing in Trish an opportunity, because I think that kind of pragmatic view would be the only way he would ever give Trish a chance? Because the thing I love most about the idea of him raising her as his heir is the idea of Trish as his heir, as she is now- ruthless, motivated, confident, guarded Trish. The same Trish that was raised by a single mother, the same Trish that demands givenchy blush and sparkling water from a crew of criminals who holds her life in their hands, the same Trish that held Bruno's hand in the elevator because she was terrified. I think she would have already somewhat built a determination about this and a tolerance for violence during her time being with the Bucci gang as they escorted her, and if she had any connection to or positive relationship to them I think she'd be willing to go- okay, so i become a criminal. so what? some of the only people i've ever been able to stand are criminals. SO I REALLY LIKE THE IDEA that she gets to San Giorgio Maggiore, and instead of what goes down in the elevator, it reaches its destination and she sees Doppio. Who is apologetic that the Boss wasn't able to come pick her up in person, but he'll be looking after her in the meantime! And for a while Trish is just like, floating around with Doppio waiting for the other shoe to drop, wondering if she's just in a further limbo and when her father is going to hurry up and kill her (because she's decided, at this point, that he is undoubtedly going to kill her, and he's just prolonging it.) And Doppio says he's never seen the Boss's face before, even though he's the underboss, and so she's CONVINCED she's going to be erased, if even his underboss can't know his face. Until one night, when Doppio is asleep in his room, and Diavolo makes his introduction to her. In person. Shows her his face, and Trish is convinced this is it.

Except he makes her a deal. Because he's been observing her while she was traveling with Doppio, assessing her from afar. And he has determined that she would be a worthy successor to all that he has built. She is not capable of taking it from him- not yet- because if he viewed her a threat, she would not survive. He makes this clear. But he sees in her the potential to step into his shoes, given time, training and guidance. And he has been thinking of legacy, and the fate of Passione. Trish doesn't understand why he isn't leaving it to Doppio, but he won't give her a reason aside from a solid and resolute "he will not be able to run it without me, no matter what." And Trish and Diavolo both like... Diavolo tells her, flat out, that he does not know how to be a father to her. He does not know how to be family, he does not know how to try and step into a role as her parent. And Trish is like, that's fine, i don't really have room for another parent in my life. my mom raised me pretty damn well on her own, and I don't think anyone can ever step into the shoes she filled. so like....if they're not going to come into this trying to force some familial bond neither of them wants, he gets a chance to bond with her as a mentor. Which I think is something Diavolo is far, far more equipped to be. Because he's spent so much time in that role for Doppio, and he is very comfortable conceptually with guiding someone into their own strength and slowly immersing someone in the world of crime. AND THEN YOU GET THIS KIND OF FUN DOUBLE LIFE, LIKE.... Trish is still living with Doppio, and as far as she knows, Doppio is just the Underboss, just some guy who has never met her father in his life. She's also partially convinced he's actually a blood relative of hers, because the resemblance is uncanny (which makes her feel very Odd about Doppio's fervent, romantic devotion to the Boss, because he can't find a way to be normal about Diavolo, not when he's actually Never had anyone else around who knows that the Boss even exists or who Doppio is. He's literally never been able to talk about his work with anyone else, with the level of secrecy he needs to operate properly as the Underboss, so when he can tell Trish even a little of anything the floodgates come open and he can't hold back the clear strong, absolute devotion with which he approaches his work, and Trish figures out pretty quick that his feelings about the Boss are not purely professional. But she also can't seem to convince him that he has anything to do with the Boss bloodwise- trust me, he has absolutely no link to a nobody like me, my father died before I was born- so she figures well, it's none of HER business.)

So she's kind of nurturing this weird almost-sibling bond with Doppio, because she's convinced they're two castoffs in the same boat together, and she's kind of in this wibbly spot where the two of them could almost bond if they weren't both so hardheaded. Because Doppio is really hardheaded and kind of sees her as a threat to his relationship with the Boss, because he doesn't understand why he's being tasked with looking after her when there is so much more important work he could be doing. And she wants to connect to him, and he keeps almost letting down his walls to her, but they're both so stubborn and get into very bullheaded arguments.

And like, at the same time, by night, she's training to be the Boss's heir. And Trish is harboring this secret- that she knows who the Boss is, that she's being trained as an heir, that he revealed his face to her- because she agrees when Diavolo asks her to keep this secret, is willing to pretend to Doppio like she's never met him- while Diavolo and Doppio's secret looms just outside of either Trish or Doppio's purview- so it's a really fun double life. Doppio wakes up every morning exhausted without knowing why, finds Trish just as exhausted in the morning, and neither of them knows the other was, essentially, out all night getting no sleep and training in combat and stand power. IT'S JUST A VERY VERY FUN KIND OF TENSION AND PLAY ON THE SECRET DOUBLE LIFE TROPE? WHICH MAKES IT VERY FUN TO PUT BOTH TRISH AND DOPPIO THROUGH IT..... Trish is trying to earn favor with Diavolo as her mentor by proving herself a worthy successor, eager to learn the ropes of what it will take to run Passione, and Diavolo is telling Doppio that Doppio's most important mission right now is to act as Trish's guardian and keep her safe and cared for, and Doppio thinks Trish is just a normal civilian he has to babysit, so they're never fully honest with each other.

But at the same time, Trish and Doppio are really actually connecting as a found family in a way Diavolo and Trish are not, as Trish actually like- finds a lot of solidarity with him and wants to bond with him in a familial sense, she just- views him as a brother, to some degree. She fully thinks they may be in the same position. And Doppio really is genuinely like for the first time in his life open to actually bond to someone else, and share any aspect of his life, because he has been so, so isolated for so long. And it makes him very weak to her to some degree, like- oh no, he's making a friend? oh no? he enjoys her company? there is someone he can experience equality and solidarity with? there is someone who actually gets to know him longer than a day? so the two of them really do wind up a weird little family even as Trish has a really professional, purely business and mentee relationship with Diavolo, focused as she is on becoming an heir and growing to be a capable enough leader to run passione.

oh my god this got so long, i was going to answer the second question about most fun/chaotic ot3 partners but I don't know if I have enough words left in me after accidentally that whole spiel. I JUST THINK A SLIGHTLY-LESS-BAD-DADS-CRIME-LIFE IS SO COOL AND INTERESTING CONCEPTUALLY AND HAVE GENUINELY BEEN EXPLORING IT FOR A WHILE IN AN AU WITH MY PARTNER.... Dear Prince,

Before I begin I just wanted to say I absolutely adore your writings as it hits the nail on the head for the characters personality every time and brings joy to my heart.

I’m usually rather shy but since it’s my birthday I decided to take a chance so if I may be so bold to ask what would it be like to have both Diavolo and Doppio share their darling? I can only imagine it to be both isolating and suffocating all at once.

Anyways thank you for all the wonderful writings I promise not to swallow them whole….at least today.

Aha. Why did you bring sizable utensils, anon? What are those for, anon? 

Asking for a protective and an obsessive together is like begging for no social life. You’re not extroverted, are you? Well, you’ll have plenty of social interaction with plural people! Two is the absolute minimum for plural, but it still counts. 

I dislike the common mischaracterization that Doppio wouldn’t stand up to Diavolo, partially because it’s also mischaracterizing Dia. Boss lightly suggests and guides poor, sweet Doppi, and Doppio does all the dirty work so Boss doesn't have to. Doppio has no problem telling him to just sit down, shut the fuck up, and let him handle it, though. Diavolo is the boss, duh, but sometimes Doppi just knows better. Who courted Donatella, huh? (Doppio says, as if he didn’t hate that entire thing and did it since Boss had zero chance of getting her himself.)

Still. Doppio relies heavily on Diavolo for long-term endeavors. He only knows how to take care of Diavolo, and… Dia isn’t the most normal individual. At least he blindly accepts your oddities. Doppio’s sweet, but he doesn’t understand that you cannot force someone who’s shy into a new environment, with a stranger, and have everything be alright. Why not? That’s practically how he met the boss! (Don’t ask him how he met ‘the boss.’)

Diavolo may know your needs better, and he's quite romantic, but he isn't really equipped to do it himself. That, and you cannot be casual with him, he’s just not the type of person you’d address informally. He’s also a terrible cook. And terrible at comforting you. Thankfully Doppio steps in where he’s lacking, but it’s not as if Diavolo is awful and Doppio is the easier option. 

There’s pros and cons to both of your options for what to do with your free time. Doppio has the advantage of, you know, not being a major creep, so you probably like him a bit more at the start, even though he’s clearly the one that took you. He doesn’t hide it, it’s not like he’s ashamed. Doppio’s pretty strong! If he can pick up Risotto then he can surely pick you up, for a little less violent (hopefully) ride back home. 

Doppio isn't very verbally affectionate, whereas Diavolo will smother you with every adjective and pet name he can think of. Sometimes he gets so overwhelmed (cuteness aggression, probably) that he can only make noses instead of proper words. Ohhh, you’re so cute, let him kiss youuu….. No kiss kiss? Just one kissy?

If you do not like change, it isn’t an easy adjustment. Diavolo demands that you all move from hotel to motel and back again, it’s safer that way. Now that he has you to worry about, which he really didn’t want to give in and take you just yet, he’s even more paranoid. There’s absolutely no wiggle room with him. You are allowed to have some sense of familiarity, but nothing too distinct or uncommon. Something that housekeeping wouldn’t think much of should you both need to momentarily step out. (Although he’d prefer to not do that.) 

A blanket or stuffed animal isn’t enough to help you adjust to an entirely new environment every two weeks or so, or every  month if he’s stable and Doppio is soothing him. It’s hard to feel like you aren’t intruding on their relationship, too, sometimes. They have their own dynamic and have loved one another for a long time, they’re both 33 by the time vento aureo takes place, so it’s… hard to socialize, even if they take the time to focus on you, and you obviously don’t see the two of them at the same time.

You'll learn, though. They can be bearable if you adjust to their lifestyle. Diavolo would never let his darling live a non-spoiled life, and Doppio is well intentioned despite how creepy he can be. You'll be taken care of.

Actually i had no idea it was a disorder in real life i just thought it was a superpower that makes you have other peoples personalities. Help. anyways i was SO obsessed with them both that it got to the point where i related to them and later on finding out Oh uhm so i had dissociative identity disorder this whole time . Oops (beware the pipeline) it just wasnt me severely forgetting stuff due to ADHD or changing my "personality" because of bipolar or always feeling dissociated because of stress. it was . Terrible these representations are considering theyre both painted as villains (god systems have no good representation at all) and that theyre psychopaths that kill people and stuff. i still love them. i think its because i dont view their character as "Psychopathic plural killers" or "torturers that have some sort of personality disorder and thats bad" but i view them as just a really fucked up guy that just happens to have said disorder. Also their abilities are cool i wont even lie. i still dont agree with them or Uhm the fact that they Kill people but moreso an admiration of their traits if that makes sense. finding people to relate to is hard enough man. fictional characters arent a hit on the nail but they resonate with me. i think thats what i wanted to say (no discourse pls)
