#anyways hylia is genderfluid
Text
zelda tangled au anyone?
genderfluid link. runaway princess zelda.
imagine ganon knows only link can defeat him so he kidnaps him as a six year old and takes him to an abandoned tower in hyrule forest with the intention of corrupting him and the master sword to get them on his side. zelda has been told all her life that the power of hylia is in her, but she hasn't unlocked it yet, and the pressure is getting too much so she sets off to find the "legendary future swordswoman" who went missing years ago because "if i can't unlock my powers, maybe she can help me."
one day, she finds the master sword (which ganondorf has been hiding near the tower because he's saving it for when he finally figures out a way to corrupt it, harness its power, and take over hyrule). she's like "oh my god what if the swordswoman is around here somewhere😱."
MEANWHILE link is in the tower with their gorgeous long hair (and maybe wolf link as a sidekick instead of pascal?), and every year on his birthday, the leaders of all the villages get together and hold a little mourning/prayer ceremony for her bc signs of the calamity are approaching fast, and they're hoping link shows up soon, especially with zelda's power not being awakened yet. link desperately wants to go see the ceremony (they don't know what it's for, just that there are a lot of beautiful lights and the dragons of hyrule all come together as well), but obviously ganondorf won't let him.
THEN zelda finds the tower and scales it. link is all "HYAH!!!!!!" and the scene where eugene is trapped in the chair with rapunzel's hair plays out between the two of them except it's just a lot of link being like 😡😡and zelda being like 🤭omg this guy's reallly good with a weapon...looks a lot like the descriptions of...WAIT OMG ITS THE LEGENDARY SWORDSWOMAN🤭 link is like "i mean 1/3 woman i guess."
eventually, zelda convinces link to leave the tower with a bargain like "if i take you to the swordswoman ceremony, will you tell me about ganondorf?" (she already suspects it's THE ganondorf ykyk), and link is hesitant because zelda is telling them that the person they've been raised by is evil, but he really wants to see the ceremony, so he goes. they cut their hair to its length in totk and it really validates her gender yk? and when zelda sees how happy link is in her newfound freedom and gender expression she's like "well i have to tell him the truth about who he is"
she doesn't want to because it'll shatter link's worldview and newfound peace, and she doesn't want to put a burden on their shoulders (bc hylia knows she knows what that's like), but she does it anyway. at this point, link is beginning to get flashes of memories from his childhood and realize what zelda is trying to tell her is true, so both of them go to kakariko village to talk to impa (and they plan to talk to the champions after), but once they get there, ganondorf is there waiting in front of the desecrated former village like HEY POOKIE. FOUND YOU. MISS ME?
he takes link captive again and accelerates his plans to take over hyrule. link is trying to find a way out, and zelda is trying to find a way to help him, but it's not working out very well lmao. meanwhile zelda goes to the champions and asks for their help, relaying everything she knows, and the champions make a plan to get link and stop ganondorf. they get to the area where the tower is, but ganondorf was expecting this and takes them captive
as this happens, link doesn't know what's going on and is alone in the tower. he finds the master sword and the secret tower staircase, but it's a trap laid by ganondorf to manipulate link into joining him because link escapes the tower only to find zelda and the champions all tied up and stuff. the bargain is like "join me and i won't kill your friends when i rule, but refuse and i'll kill them slowly and make you watch" (i came up with this on the spot i know it's a rough plot WORK WITH ME😭🙏)
link being link challenges ganondorf to a duel, and ganondorf accepts purely out of amusement bc at this point he thinks "link can't defeat me yet since he's been locked in the tower; he's only a danger if he's been trained." link whoops his ass, but ganondorf harnesses the power of the calamity at the last second (which he was planning to do just to teach link a lesson in obedience and whatever). he whoops LINK'S ass, but just as link is about to get killed, zelda's powers Come To Life, and she saves him. then they all work together to defeat ganondorf and they all live happily ever after

anyways here’s a list of all the (current) hcau links’ gender, pronouns, sexuality, and any partners they may have/have had. i’ve been queering these bitches since the very beginning
Hero - he/him, he’s too busy with.. well everything to think about his gender or sexuality, has a very complicated relationship with Hylia
Loft - he/they, in the midst of exploring their gender but for now is settled on trans man, bisexual, in a very committed relationship with his Zelda (and is planning to propose soon!!)
Minish - they/them, agender, demi + ace, just started dating their Zelda
Prism - he/him, cis man, bisexual, engaged to his Zelda
Mask - they/he, their gender is complicated but they don’t want to explain so they just say trans man, bisexual, not quite dating Malon yet but very very close (also has a minor crush on Sheik)
Oracle - he/him, trans man, pansexual, he is very far back in the closet so he’s not dating anyone but he was admittedly kind of into Ralph, and under different circumstances he could’ve loved Zelda, too (see this short wip) (also he’s so not over Marin)
Lorule - she/he/they, genderfluid, pan + ace, has the fattest fucking crush on Ravio
Rhythm - he/him, questioning gender, queer, hasn’t figured out if their feelings for his Zelda are platonic or not
Traveler - he/they/it, non-binary, aroace, he and one of its Zeldas jokingly flirt all the time bc they think it’s hilarious but they’re actually just super good friends
Wolf - he/him, cis man, bisexual, not in a relationship because he’s probably never going to get over Midna
Red - he/they, genderqueer, queer, still crushing on Erune
Green - he/him, cis man, bisexual, single
Blue - she/her, trans woman, lesbian, head over heals for her Zelda but refuses to admit it (everyone knows)
Vio - they/she, transfem non-binary, bi + demi + ace, has a…. complicated relationship with Shadow
Wind - he/him, trans man, bisexual, dating Tetra and is so proud of it
Spirit - she/her, trans girl, lesbian, has the biggest crush on her Zelda
Ages - he/him, cis man, pansexual, single but used to have a crush on Ravio during the war
Champion - he/they, was too busy studying the blade to consider their gender or sexuality or any romantic feelings (painfully oblivious to the fact that they have feelings for both Mipha and Zelda)
Wild - any/all pronouns, genderqueer, pansexual, dating her Zelda
here are also some side characters that are queer to some degree!!
Malon - she/her, trans woman, pansexual, very very close to dating Mask (and thinks Sheik is cute, too)
Mask’s Sheik (child timeline) - he/him, trans man, bisexual, not dating anyone but has a fat fucking crush on Mask and Malon
Pipit - he/him, trans man, straight, engaged to Karane
Marin - she/her, trans woman, pansexual, was dating Oracle
Champion’s Zelda - she/her, cis woman, bisexual, has a huge crush on both Champion and Mipha
Ravio - he/him, cis man, queer, has the fattest fucking crush on Lorule
of course there are other characters who aren’t mentioned here that have gotten hit by the queerification beam, but these are all i’ve decided on/can think of at the moment!!

Got bored and decided to reveal the Zeldas in the Zelda!Linked Universe AU (waiting at least a day or so before I decide on a name just in case). Basically their names, what games they're from, their personality etc. Btw this is all subject to change coz I'm still experimenting atm.
Sun - Skyward Sword:
Also known as Hylia's vessel, she is energetic, wise, and a team motivator. She prides herself on being sociable and friendly to others while also being able to pull them in line. She's basically the mother figure the girls never really got. She's also one of the best at swordfighting due to her academic training and she recently started working at the academy as staff coz she lives there with her father anyway.
Dot - Minish Cap, Four Swords:
Dot is a sly girl, and quite cunning too. She often slipped out of the castle in 'peasant clothing' to visit Four and played off being of a lower class than she really was surprisingly well (thanks to him). Dot is quite chatty, but a lot of it are jokes and quips because she likes to uplift others with laughter. She learned a few bits about blacksmithing and repairs from Four and so she's very useful when one of the Court's weapons are getting blunt or damaged. She also carries around a multitude of shields for the girls 'just in case'. Don't put her near anything hot, she sweats under all of those layers. Dot and Aurora are basically inseparable and often joke about things like their unnaturally opposite heights and how Dot could probably pass as an adult (shes 6'5).
Lullaby - Ocarina of Time:
Despite being the oldest at 31 years old, Lullaby desperately chases the childhood that was ripped away from her since she comes from the Adult Timeline, were she sent Link back but not herself. Because of this, she has the Ocarina of Time and uses an arsenal of songs to her advantage. She grew quite pessimistic over the years as she hid as Sheik - which to this day she sees as an extension of herself (yes she's genderfluid) and often causes confusion because of her and Athena. Lullaby has the best survival skills of the group, making her Athena's second-in-command to go to for battle plans, and has more stamina and increased agility compared to the others. She also fights with traditional Sheikah weaponry which sets her apart from everyone else. She looks quite short but she really isn't (she's about 5'8).
Tetra - Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass:
The 21 year old pirate captain gets along somewhat well with at least half of the group if she doesn't think about the technical side about her heritage. Although despising the idea that she is a princess and would rather be considered the girls' friend than a relative, she also craves to be accepted as one of them, because although Sun should've faced the same experience where she's left out from the group, her bubbly, sociable nature makes them feel that she's to be trusted. Meanwhile, Tetra feels left out due to her rep as a pirate not being a good one, not aided by the fact that she's incredibly mischievous, suspiciously charismatic, and high energy, or the fact that she clashes constantly about leadership roles and authority (especially with Fable and Athena). Despite conflicts, she's an absolute charmer and her confident, headstrong nature is able to get many out of their shells. Tetra's also the only member of the Court to not be of a similar age group to their Link - it doesn't stop her from being mistaken as a teenager for being the second shortest at 5'1.
Dusk - Twilight Princess:
Dusk is the second oldest of the group, shared with Athena. She keeps this stoic, calm, regal front to cover the crippling anxieties that comes from her possession, of which she's still affected by. When she opens up to people, Dusk is a very calm and caring presence which naturally leads her to become the Court's mediator. However she's incredibly loyal and self-sacrifical due to self-esteem issues from the possession (which will be talked more about in her proper reveal post). As the Court go through more of each other's eras, the more weapons are held inside Dusk's cloak. In fact, her paranoia and anxieties she's had since she was a child led her to get sword-fighting lessons, which is why she weilds her sword pre-Court.
Fable - ALTTP, ALBW, OOS/A:
Fable is Legend's older sister by a year at 18 years old, and contrary to Legend, Fable is a very strict, no-nonsense, commanding authority. She very often conflicts and sometimes demonizes certain members of the Court such as Tetra because of her authority as well as others' less traditional viewpoints - though exactly like Legend, it's because she both incredibly emotionally tired and pushes others to hate her so she doesn't get attached in case something happens to them. She acts like a lightning rod for the Court's frustrations and negativity because she knows that other relationships run smoother if she gets the brunt of everyone's problems. At some point you have to wonder if its emotional self-sacrifice. Fable is one of the few members of the Court who doesn't use any weapons until later into the story because she's so strongly tied to her magic, that she thoroughly believes that it can win all of her battles. She's eventually coaxed into using a traveler's sword and a vicious sickle from Flora's time though.
Aurora - Adventure of Link:
Being the smallest and youngest of the Court, Aurora is seemingly forever stuck at 14 years old and 4'11. She a very snarky, sarcastic girl that uses harmless pokes at others to express her affections for them. Her banter is much like Dot's in a way, though has that optimistic, self-assured charm a 14 year old usually has. Aurora has a very troubling relationship with sleeping, as one moment she was being interrogated by her twin brother and the next she wakes up in the arms of an unknown boy, generations ahead, with her beloved uncle and brother already passed. Thus comes a succession crisis for Aurora and Dawn, and the two have a rocky relationship during the start. It isn't until Dawn started to admit that Aurora was her great aunt that the two finally began to make up. She has that fiesty short person energy and she 'borrows' spare weaponry from others so she can fight herself. She is comically strong for her height and age and has won almost all arm wrestling matches she's been in. Aurora sometimes finds herself belittled or coddled by some of the Court for her age, but surprisingly enough, she was one of the first people Fable properly opened up to. She doesn't understand why she insists that Aurora reminds Fable of her younger brother, though she feels like she recognises something about Fable...
Dawn - The Legend of Zelda (1)
Dawn is a very stubborn 17 year old whom is easily distrusting of many. Once she knows she wants something done, she works hard to get it done, no matter the cost. At times her actions come off as morally questionable, as sometimes her relationships are affected by them. Dawn is consistently exhausted due to working hard to win the favour of her royal council of advisors back in hers and Aurora's era, to the point that her health is poor and she's quite frail under her clothing. She shares more of Fable's traditional values and looks to her almost like a role model when in the Court. Though the beginning of the story has her and Aurora on a very rocky relationship, she slowly tries harder and harder to please her great aunt and fix their friendship.
Athena - Hyrule Warriors:
Athena is the second oldest of the group at 25, a shared age with Dusk. She is very closed off and distant from the girls, but will work to collaborate on battle plans, mapping, and anything to do with strategy. She is the Court's medic due to her wartime medical training. She is the closest to Lullaby, though it was mostly through getting to know her so she could cover Lullaby's ass with her own Sheik disguise. Though reserved, Athena is usually the one to start bets as it was a good way to pass time and heighten morale among soldiers (especially with Warriors and the younger Links as they would have something to look forward to so they could keep going), though passes the time by doing weapon and armour maintenance, reading, and zoning out into her own world. Zoning out usually includes grooming the Court's appearance absentmindedly as she subconsciously cares deeply for public image. Athena is also the only Zelda to not use pockets, pouches, or bags to carry items or money, as she stores everything away with her magic.
Flora - Breath of the Wild:
Being the scientist of the group, she is able to easily identify and locate important herbs and plants, mix together medicines, and knows pretty well how to exploit certain parts of nature. She's very curious about the world around her, though had been conditioned over her childhood to repress her emotions in order to focus on the potential of any powers. She equates a lot of her self image and importance on her powers and how much she can do in regards to it. Over time in the wild, however, she was able to let loose and relax to do whatever experiments she wished. She is somewhat socially awkward and sticks out like a sore thumb when she talks due to her accent and vocabulary because of a very sheltered, overwatched life. Silent Princesses are Flora's favourite flower because it is able to obtain the one thing she couldn't; freedom from confinement. Still on a journey to explore herself, she finds a lot of similarities in Sun and takes refuge in her. They have an almost mentor-ish relationship going on and they both act as each others emotional anchors.

This’ll be a bunch of Corrupt Hylia au stuff I either changed since mentioning it or forgot to say. Under the cut because I think it got a little long.
1. Been forgetting to mention this, but Ebony is genderfluid, and you can tell what gender they are atm by looking in their eyes (they don’t like shapeshifting too much of their body just to make it obvious if they’re a boy, girl, or nb). Red eyes for boy, blue eyes for girl, green eyes for neither. In aus where Ebony can’t shapeshift (due to being normal human) it’s replaced with bracelets that have the same color system.
2. Vaz is agender and using they/them pronouns now. However I keep forgetting this so I might accidentally use the wrong pronouns for them. Telling me when I make that mistake if I talk about them would be greatly appreciated <3
3. I kept thinking about the Valora Town thing and decided men are let in even without crossdressing, though Gerudo will sometimes play pranks on men who’ve never been there before and tell them they have to (if they’re friends with the guy). It’s a relatively harmless prank, I think. This is cause after posting that fact something about it kept rubbing me the wrong way, so I decided to change it.
4. I... might be changing Lyn’s skin tone? Idk, I just feel like Lyn and Ebony should have more similar skin tones since they’re twins and all. Lyn won’t be pale, I’m just changing how tanned she is since I don’t think the skin tone marker I chose was correct for a tan. Basically, I want them to actually look like they’re related, and I’m now aggravated because I just realized this makes so much of my art incorrect I’m already debating taking back this decision because of that alone. anYWAYS I’ll be debating this decision a bit more so if her skin tone looks different in the future that’s why.
5. I’m not sure if I want Revali and Lyn to be (friendly) rivals, maybe a bit of a mentor in the archery section (when he’s around) and part time mentor with the wind magic stuff. Archery because he saw Lyn practicing and went, “That’s atrocious, who’s been teaching you?” “Uhh... nobody? I’ve been trying to figure it out from... memories.” “...Well that explains why you’re doing it all wrong.” *starts fixing everything about her grip and stance and stuff* Also debating part time wind magic teacher because he and Vaz are rivals and I was thinking he might help from time to time. However, the way he meets Lyn is staying in. I love it too much to remove.
6. Violet doesn’t actually mind the experiments the science duo puts Lyn through. It’s the other three who get annoyed by it. And only when they blow up unexpectedly. (Vaz and Zael have learned to not assure Lyn that it won’t blow up when it’s in the super-experimental phase. It usually ends in it blowing up and the pettiness being worse because Lyn was assured it wouldn’t explode.)
7. I’m debating making the Link from 5,000 years ago a girl (or maybe nb). I don’t really know why, maybe it’s because of how his(?) design came out? Idk but this Link’s gender is gonna be up in the air for a bit (btw, what do y’all think about the nickname “Rebel” for that Link? So I don’t need to specify every time)
8. The previously mentioned Link has two sisters - Linkle and Aryll - that I just realized have no roles in the semi-vague backstory plot. Whoops. I want to find a way to fix that somehow.
9. Last thing, Ghirahim uses he/they pronouns and Fi uses she/they pronouns. (Also only semi-related bc Fi but I think I figured out why a battle occurred at Korok Forest/Lost Woods and I think it would also be a reasonable excuse to possibly bring in Fi? I say possibly bc I don’t want her to be alone for 5,000 years in old Hyrule after it’s sealed away - but if anyone wants to hear the idea they can ask!)
That’s all I can think of for now, though there might be other stuff I might not be remembering at the moment or in the future.

The Language of Flowers
AHHHH I’M BACK
I’m so sorry I haven’t posted a fic in so long, but this is what happens when high school lets you (*cough* strongly encourages you to *cough*) take AP classes sophomore year. Word of advice: don’t take AP Economics unless you’re good at math ;-;
Anyway, I kinda hate how this turned out, but I love the idea too much to let it waste away in my docs, so here it is. I love flowers and their meanings, and after seeing some pictures of the gang with flower crowns, I was gone. Hope you enjoy!
Note: Wild is genderfluid in this fic! I am, however, not genderfluid, and as such, I don’t have an intimate understanding of how someone who is genderfluid feels. If there are people who are genderfluid and feel misrepresented, just leave a nice comment below and I’ll change it :) Additionally, there is a time where Wild is misgendered, so if that triggers you, just skip to the next section.
Wild’s collection of flowers was, quite frankly, astounding.
It was like he had a flower for every type of task. Hunting food, cooking dinner, doing chores. It puzzled everyone to no end, especially as they never saw him pick any of them. They did, however, notice the “patterns” of the flowers, and what they meant.
Sometimes, the flowers described happiness.
“Wild? Are you okay?”
The young male shot a grin toward Twilight. “Never better!” He chirped enthusiastically.
Twilight stared. In all of the time he had known Wild, he had never seen him like this before. “Are you sure? You’re acting… different than usual.”
Wild blinked and raised an eyebrow. “Am I not allowed to act like this?”
Twilight waved his arms rapidly, “No, you are! I’ve just never seen it before.”
Wild’s gaze turned into one of amusement. “I’m happy today, is all. See my flowers?” He pointed toward the daffodils and gladioluses behind his ear, “Usually they’re apple blossoms and violets, but today, they’re daffodils, which means I’m happy!”
“Is that so?” Twilight spied a single daffodil nearby and leaned over to pick it up. “Then how about one more to add to your collection?”
Wild’s face showed one of surprise before it melted into laughs. Twilight’s brows scrunched up in confusion, which Wild noticed. “Everything matters with flowers, from color to the number of them,” he explained as he calmed down, “For example, if I hadn’t known better, I would’ve thought you meant misfortune when you gave me this.” He plucked the daffodil out of Twilight’s hand, “Thank you!”
Twilight shook his head as Wild scampered off, “Hylia help us.”
Sometimes, the flowers described preference.
Today was going to be an odd day, Legend decided, and it was all because of a certain pyromaniac.
It had started with the missing flower. Well, not missing, exactly, since there was a calla lily in place of the regular gladiolus in his braid, but still. Strange.
For as long as any of them could remember, the gladiolus was a constant in any of Wild’s combinations, yet the flower always stood apart from them. It seemed to Wild’s eyes that it indicated a particular concept he knew about, but he never bothered to tell anyone else about it, so the meaning was unknown.
The second weird part of the day was the way Wild was acting. Usually, he was quiet and thoughtful as they walked, yet today, he seemed to walk taller and chatted with everyone. His usual violets were still in place, so what was causing this change in behavior? After thinking and frowning to himself to the point Twilight was concerned for his sanity, he decided to ask Wild.
“How are you today, Wild?” He smoothly walked up to his friend.
Wild giggled sweetly, “Never better, Legend!”
Legend stared. Okay, that was the last straw. “Are you good?”
Wild tilted his head curiously, “What do you mean?”
“The way you’re acting! Your flowers! It’s not normal!”
“My flowers…?”
“The gladiolus isn’t there!” He searched Wild’s eyes desperately, “I don’t what that means!”
“Oh, that.” Wild laughed again, “That just means I’m feeling female today.”
Legend’s mind screeched to a halt. “Feeling… female?”
“Yeah, did no one ever tell you? I’m genderfluid. The gladiolus means I’m feeling masculine.”
Legend stared again. He did this for so long Wild started to get worried, “Legend?”
Legend snapped back, “Yeah?”
Wild nervously played with her fingers, “Are you mad?”
Legend’s brows scrunched together, “Not particularly, no. Why?”
“It’s just that not everyone approves of me being genderfluid, so I didn’t know if you had a problem with it or not…”
Did he have a problem with it? Legend thought for a moment and decided, “Nah, I don’t have a problem with it.”
Wild looked at him hopefully, “You don’t?”
“Nope. I was more concerned with how much you were talking, to be honest.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. So, what do other flowers mean?”
“Other flowers?” Wild looked startled at the sudden topic change, “Well, peonies mean…”
Today was going to be an odd day, Legend decided as he looked at her, but that doesn’t mean it had to be a bad day.
Sometimes, the flowers described pain.
It was raining when Time found them, dead leaves and purple hyacinths scattered in their loose hair. Their somber mood gave Time everything he needed to guess the meaning behind them.
They spoke softly at the unasked question, their thumb delicately tracing the purple hyacinth. “I had a hard time expressing myself back then—still do, in fact.” They chuckled lightly, “Combined with my poker face, it was hard for anyone to tell what I was thinking, and after an incident with a visiting lord, Zelda suggested I put flowers in my hair to describe what I was feeling that day. Nobody beyond Zelda and the others knew what it meant, they thought it was just decoration, but they were enough for me.”
“I’m guessing you brought that to us, huh, cub?” Time said just as quietly. Wild nodded, bowing their head as tears came down their face and sobs wracked their body.
“I miss them,” they said through the cries, “I miss them so much!”
Time held their body tightly, eyes squeezed shut to prevent tears from escaping him. “I know, lovely,” he whispered, “I know.”
Their tears joined the ones from the heavens.
Sometimes, the flowers described love.
Sky tilted his head in confusion. “That’s a new combination,” he muttered to himself distantly. “Wonder what that means.”
“Wonder what what means?” Wind asked curiously as him and Hyrule came up behind the farmer. Twilight jerked his head toward Wild.
“Wild’s flowers. The grouping, it’s new.”
Wind and Hyrule both looked toward Wild’s new flower crown, made up of lilacs, hyacinths, and gardenias. Hyrule frowned thoughtfully, “Maybe he’s happy?”
“No, he uses daffodils for that,” Wind disagreed. “Maybe he’s content?”
“Nah, that’s violets and apple blossoms.”
“Then what’s it describing?”
“Uh, maybe if you asked him, he’d tell you,” Four piped up from where he was carrying wood for a fire. “You know he’s always welcome to tell us.”
“That’s true, but I want to figure it out, you know?” Sky smiled, “It’s kinda like a game!”
Four huffed and rolled his eyes, “If you say so.” He walked back towards Warriors.
“Think we should ask him?” Hyrule proposed a few minutes later. “I have a feeling we’re not gonna figure it out.”
Wind sighed in defeat, “I think you’re right. Hey, Wild!”
Wild looked up from where he was conversing with Time, “Yes?”
“What do your flowers mean?”
Wild looked at them in surprise and hesitantly touched the flower crown. “My flowers?” At their nods, he smiled widely, “They describe my love!”
“Your… love?” Sky asked in confusion.
“Yeah! My love for you guys!”
Silence.
“My heart.” Wind clutched his chest while Hyrule’s eyes welled up.
Wild blinked. “Are you guys okay?” He asked, concern lacing his voice.
“They’re fine, don’t worry.” Everyone looked up at Warriors’ voice, “They’re just feeling the love.”
Time side-eyed the captain, “And you’re not?”
“No, I am. It just isn’t as prominent.”
Time shook his head ruefully, “If you say so. Anyway, why’d you pick that combo today, cub?”
Wild shrunk a little in embarrassment, “W-well, we’ve been together for a little while now… and you guys have been really accepting of me and my flowers, so I guess I just wanted to say thank you?” He looked down, “This collection means family, which is the closest thing that could describe how I felt with you guys.”
Wild looked up when he felt Wind crash into his back. “Group hug!” He cheered.
That was a good day.
While yes, it is weird for Wild to have as many flowers as he does (and they never die too, which is even weirder), they all got used to it, so much so everyone eventually started doing it themself. All they had to do was ask Wild for a few flowers that described their feelings, and suddenly, they had a flower crown made up of their thoughts and emotions.
Goddesses, the language of flowers was helpful.

Wild
Summary: When he wakes up from the shrine of resurrection, Link notices that he doesn’t always feel like a he. Link learns to be okay with that.
Notes: I guess I should make it known that I identify as the gender I was born as, this was largely requested and I really wanted to write it. I tried to be as factually correct and respectful as I could, but if anything seems super super wrong and incorrect to anyone genderfluid reading this, please kindly let me know via ask or pm and I will make sure I correct it.
Warnings: slight dysphoria, angst, fluff. I tried to make this an overly positive story, focusing more on the self discovery than the angst. Please enjoy. :)
-o-o-o-o-
He'd been this way... for as long as he could remember. It wasn't like he knew the words for it or what to do about it the moment he first opened his eyes in the Shrine of Resurrection, but from day one he'd sometimes fell… off. Off like his very skin was wrong, and it would give him a sick feeling down to his gut for no reason at all, and he'd know nothing to do about it; but then a day or a few hours would pass and he'd feel normal again, comfortable in his own body.
The first month he was on the great plains and the entire time he switched between those feelings. Normal, and off. As he continued onward, he began to notice that the off days were sometimes not the same, sometimes he'd feel it in his chest other days in his stomach. It was an urgency, telling him he needed to do something, but he had no idea what to do.
He never told the old man, and he never thought too much into it until he left the plains, stepping into the vast land of Hyrule for the first time, never realized what the feelings were until he saw a woman for the first time.
A traveling brother and sister getting attacked by some Bokoblins. He rescued them with no hesitation and introduced himself after, excited to meet actual people—he was almost afraid there were no people and he would be completely alone in his journey. What happened next was while he spoke with the brother about directions to Kakariko, his eyes trailed over towards the sister. Right at that moment, something stirred in his chest and without any warning his mouth opened in an "O".
That's it. That's what the weird feeling is. Looking at her, in that moment, his features felt sharp, his hair too messy, his hips too skinny and even his butt and chest seemed too flat. He doesn't understand why, but that was it. It has to be. Something about his brain, his body, or his very soul just wanted to be like her for a few hours or a day. He wondered how he could do that.
The brother yelled at him, ripping him out from his epiphany, scolding him for making googly eyes at his sister, and the sister laughed and gently calmed him down, saying Link meant nothing of it. He couldn't help but watch as her wrists moved, she talked with her arms and it was graceful, joints bending gently and slowly instead of jerky and to the point like her brother as he threw his arms up angrily. She took a step forward and Link copied how she did it, smoothly, walking with a slight tilt to her hip, without even thinking as he stepped towards the brother to explain that it wasn't what it looked like. The moment he opened his mouth and said the first word, he realized that that's wrong too. He stopped, cleared his throat, and raised his voice a bit. Not perfect… but it felt better.
Thankfully, the brother deflated rather quickly and didn't try to start any arguments or fights. Turned out he's just very protective. The sister insisted that she'll be fine and that she can take care of herself, and Wild agreed.
"She's going to kill me someday," the brother said, and Wild stopped in his tracks because it's the first time he'd ever heard that word. Right now… she wanted it to apply to herself.
She thanked them and took a step back, about to head back to that pathway strewn with ruins and monsters, and as she walked back, she noticed the brother lift his entire arm to wave goodbye, while the sister lifted her arm up and simply tilted her hand back and forth. Link copied her, and it felt right.
The rest of the evening, she moved with a gracefulness she never thought about before. Something changed in her and it felt so very correct and okay that the pain in her chest was hardly recognizable, not even after she left the ruins and began her journey to the towering twin peaks before her.
She saw travelers along the way, and she'll walk with a slight tilt and she'll wave with her wrist and talk with a bit more gentleness and pitch than what she thought was normal back at the plains. She noticed that some of the female travelers all had a slight difference to their style of clothes while compared to the men, and she thought about that a lot, thinking of how that applied to her, all the way to the first stable.
She was exhausted by then, so she didn't think too much about it, in fact, she was thinking about close to nothing the moment her head hit the pillow.

When Link woke up, he felt different again. He thought that if he did what he did yesterday, he'd feel okay again. However, it didn't feel right. Raising his voice, swaying his hips, brushing his dirty hair out, none of it worked. The feeling remained as he finally gave up, choosing to just act how he normally would and not put on an effort to act like a woman. Though… he didn't want to be male either.
Whatever the case, he had limited sunlight, and he had to push this new predicament to the side as he finally caught a horse, named it Harold, and left his way towards Kakariko.
He found that this new feeling didn't last as long as the one from last night. The urge to act more like a woman lasted the entire day, while that one left by the time he was heading up the last stretch of hill towards Kakariko. He forgot all about it by the time he returned the maracas to Hestu. He was back to feeling comfortable in his skin, and it didn't even bother him when Hestu referred to him as "Mr Hero". It felt right in that moment.
It felt right the rest of the day, all the way until he found himself giving rupees to the village inn and once again, settling down for a good night's rest.
-o-o-o-o-
The next few weeks he spent traveling towards Hateno to fix his camera, and those weeks were filled with a mix of three feeling, two he knew what to do about, the third was a bit harder. Luckily, the third one didn't come around that often, and when it did it only lasted a few hours until it switched back to one of the others.
The first one was easy, it's what he was born as. Or… what he's pretty sure he was born as, with just a few months memory but with a body more than a dozen years old it's sort of hard to tell. Anyway, it's when he feels content as a male. It's the one that sticks around most, lasts the longest too, which is good. It's the easiest to be. The second one is a tad bit harder but he's getting used to it. It's when he refers to himself as "she/her" and just naturally feels better in his skin when he switches up his habits to be more woman-like. On days like that he—or in that time it would be she—would just copy what other women around her do. It lasts just shorter, if not the same amount, as the days when he's male.
The last one… he was still trying to figure out. He doesn't feel comfortable doing either woman things or male things. He's tried going by she, or he, tried brushing his hair, tried wearing less form fitting shirts (like what he did when he's a she… on those days it's extremely uncomfortable to show off a flat chest…), tried to be overly manly, and none of it worked. He hoped that someday he'd figure out. Thankfully that last feeling never lasts long.
When he—yes he was definitely a "he"—finally stepped into Hateno, he decided to explore a little bit first. He ran into a kid who found something neat just off the main road of the town, and one thing led to another and now he knew of the existence of some sort of anti-Hylia shrine that can take, morph, and return his strength and his energy for a suspiciously steal of a price. Whatever the case, he will not be going to that again unless he absolutely needed to. If fact, he should probably find a way to destroy it.
Anyway, after he got done with that, he turned around and stopped before he could even take a step. Atop the hill… was a very peculiar looking building. He didn't need any of his previous memories to know that a house with a flat, square design was very uncommon not only in Hateno, but for probably all of Hylia.
So he ran up to it.
Naturally.
There were multiple structures of the same kind around the first building he saw, built just out of the main section of the town to either stand out or because the style wasn't welcome in the middle of civilization. Maybe a bit of both.
He spent a few minutes gaping at these very strange buildings before he caught sight of a well trod yet overgrown path leading further out of the town. Without thinking much about it, he decided to follow after that trail even though there was a shrine literally just to his left and that should take priority, but with Link being, well, Link… he'd rather explore just a bit longer before he had to suffer the headache of another pointless puzzle.
Almost immediately he caught sight of a very old and very cozy looking cabin. It's style was exactly like the rest of the town, except for it's missing bricks, collapsed chimney, missing door, and shattered shingles. It looked… like it belonged to something old, something unwanted, something far away.
He wanted it.
He picked up his pace, a rush of excitement filling his chest and fueling his limbs. He ran over a beautiful bridge over an equally beautiful stream that appeared to lead to a pond he hadn't noticed before which seemed to settle right next to where that evil statue thing was. In all a few moments, he was standing there, looking at the full magnificence that is the ran down and withered building.
Already, visions of fixed up structures, a painted door, a sign with his name, and a fully furnished kitchen and living room filled his mind. He took a step forward, heard a crash, and whipped his neck over to where a rather large man with the biggest hair-do he'd ever seen was smashing a double headed hammer into the wall of that beautiful house, making an already big hole bigger.
"H-hey!" He squawked.
And, well, the next thing he knew his was sitting around the campfire with Bolson, Karson, and Hudson talking about buying a home. Turned out, Bolson liked him, and was willing to lower the whopping price of 50k rupees down to 3k and 30 bundles of wood. Doable. He'd just have to sell his hoard to opals, topaz, amber, and rubies to reach that goal money wise. Wood wise… he'll probably have to find an ax of some sort that he won't mind shattering to chop down that much wood. It probably wouldn't be acceptable to bomb the whole forest outside the peaceful town. He'd like to stay on the good side of the masses thank you very much.
After that was all sorted out, Link had a minute to truly look at the men in front of him. Hudson looked like a genuine gentle giant, he spoke with a soft voice and his features seemed to be in a permanent state of relaxed and non threatening. Karson definitely acted and looked the part of an energetic side kick towards Bolson, always ready and rearing to begin any task asked of him, a grin practically plastered onto his face. Now... Bolson confused Link. Everything about him was completely different to what Link had ever seen. He wore brightly colored clothes, raised his voice a few notes higher as he spoke, and walked with a sassy bounce to his step that Link definitely hadn't seen on another person, let alone another man.
Right then, the thought occurred to Link… that maybe Bolson is like him. Maybe… right now Bolson called himself… herself?
He'd have to work up the courage and ask Bolson about it later…. when they're alone.
"Thank you for letting me have a shot at buying the house," Link said, standing up and holding out his hand for a shake. It was easy to talk to them, proof of that was that that sentence had been the longest he'd spoken since he had woken up. "You are all very kind."
Bolson held out his hand, his wrist flicking smoothly and practiced, and grabbed hold of Link's hand, shaking with a gentle bounce. "Of course," he said, smiling.
-o-o-o-o-
"Are you a woman?" Link's blurted out. It'd been a week. She… he… it was that strange feeling again… he decided to stay over at Hateno for awhile before traveling back to Kakariko. He did all that he needed to, he fixed his camera, got some pretty cool looking pictures that ping a little bit of familiarity within him, and was even able to upgrade his bombs. He would have left earlier, but he used the excuses of gathering bundles of wood and crickets to stay longer. That would be what he told Impa anyway; that he stayed longer because he had to help some people out. Not because he was delaying asking a question that shouldn't be so scary to ask. He could have left ages ago, he probably should have, but he knew that if he didn't ask… he'd regret it.
Bolson looked up from where he's pounding nails into the wooden floor of Link's house with wide eyes. Hudson was out working on the roof while Karson was sent to paint the outside walls, and with Link leaving the next day… this may be the only opportunity he had to ask the question privately. It's not very often that Bolson was without Karson.
The surprised… almost shocked look on Bolson's face made Link instantly regret everything. He shouldn't have asked. He should have kept his big mouth shut.
He knew he was different. At first it felt normal, but he'd interacted with enough people for long enough to know that males are males and females are females. He hadn't seen one person, not in Kakariko, not in Hateno, not at the stables or on the trail, suddenly refer to themselves as anything different than what they were.
It was only a matter of time that the feeling of… difference and… brokenness sunk it's claws into his gut.
And it's clear now that whatever this was, it wasn't normal. Link was the only one feeling different with his genders.
He's about to apologise, about to ask Bolson to forget it before Bolson can think about how… unnatural Link really was. But then, something genuine flashed across Bolson's face as he pushed himself up. Link remained speechless, afraid, even as Bolson placed a hesitant yet gentle and un-threatening hand on Link's shoulder.
"Do you think I look like a woman?"
It wasn't sarcastic, or angry, like Link expected it to be. He knew what it's like for someone to get your gender wrong. He got it every time a found a korok while he was actually a she and they call her "Mr Hero". She got it every time when someone said "man" at the end of their sentence, referring to her. She wondered why they do that, why can't they just see that sometimes things that are male just don't apply to her.
It wasn't sarcastic or angry, it was curious… and worried.
"I- I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"
"Link, darling, please answer me."
Link looked Bolson in they eyes and he had to fight down a choking noise. He shouldn't have said anything. He should have left it alone. "I-no… I just thought…"
"You thought because of the way I dress and speak that I don't think myself male. Is that correct, darling?"
"I'm sorry…"
Bolson sighed and let go of Links shoulder before he slowly sank to the floor. "Sit with me," he said, patting the spot next to him. Link swallowed and lowered himself down with as much enthusiasm Purah would have when giving away something for free. He looked down. "Gender," Bolson started and Link forced himself to look up at him, Bolson was returning the gaze but was giving nothing away, "gender is expressed in many different ways, honey. I, for example, do identity with my birth gender, but the feminine things interest me greatly. I choose to express myself with traditionally womanly ways and manors, but I've never considered myself apart of that gender. Does that make sense?"
"Yes…"
"Good. Now, you can explain to me what's going on in your cute little head."
Link… wanted to tell him, Bolson had just shared something personal, but… he didn't understand it himself. How could he share his feelings with the other man when he didn't even know how to explain it? He hated how he had spent the last few months trying to explore his feelings and then when asked about them… he freezes up. Why… did he feel ashamed of it? Why did he feel like this was something to hide and to only practice when alone?
He wanted to wave his hand and say it was nothing, that he was just curious, but the way Bolson was looking at him… it made him feel like he already knew what was going on in Link's head and he just wanted him to admit it.
Link won't be able to back out of this. He had a week to get to know Bolson, and if there's one thing he knew for sure, it's that Bolson will not let Link leave the conversation with lies.
"Sometimes…" he… no she. It's she now. The weird feeling was gone, gone so fast, and now she knew that it's she for sure. Or it felt like it should be. Right now… she didn't feel that great. "Sometimes…" her voice was naturally higher, she folded her arms across her stomach, fighting off nausea, how can she say it? How can she tell something so personal and strange and uncommon. Goddesses, she feels more scared now than she had the first time she ran into a Yiga soldier.
Rip it off. Rip it off, take the consequences, just spit it out.
"Sometimes I don't feel like a man," she whispered, her eyes closed, her stomach doing somersaults, her heart pounding so hard in her ears. She can feel something building up behind the bridge of her nose, a warm pressure. "And- and I don't always know what to do about it, but it's been going on since… for as long as I can remember. I just… I'm just sometimes……"
Her chest shuttered and she curled up, clutching onto herself like she would fall apart. She can't look at Bolson. She can't see the shock, the surprise, the regret, the anger, she had never told anyone, but it's too strange to gain a good reaction to it.
Then, a hand placed into her own. "What are you now, sweetheart?" Link shook her head and curled up tighter, trying to close herself off in any way she could. "Are you a woman?"
A sob tore through her throat and the next thing she knew, she was wrapped up in a pair of strong, supportive, gentle arms. Her arms stayed wrapped around herself, she remained curled up, eyes closed, head bowed, even as Bolson pushed her into his chest and whispered words quietly. "It's okay," he said, and she wanted to push him away and scream at him that it wasn't okay, but all she could do was let another sob claw its way out.
It stayed that way… for a long time. In all honesty, when Link finally got ahold of herself, she was surprised that Karson and Hudson hadn't walked in to see what the fuss was all about get.
"I'm not angry with you, Link," Bolson said, "I just want to understand. Can you talk with me or do you want to wait and try again when you feel ready?"
He gave Link an option. An option to get away and forget about it and… and she didn't want to do that.
"I think…" she whispered, "I think I want to talk."
"There is nothing wrong with you," Bolson said, taking the answer as an invitation to continue. "People live in an illusion that gender is black and white, when in fact that is not so. There are grays, and there are all the colors of the rainbow. The world isn't black and white, so why should we be? Whatever you're feeling, whatever you are, you are normal, and you are not broken."
Link nodded, slowly reaching up to wipe at her eyes.
"Do you understand?"
"I…" she sucks in a breath. "I will."
Bolson nodded, looking like he knew he did a good job, but there was something far away in his eyes, something sad and… from experience.
"Just be yourself, no matter what. If you're male, female, a mix of both or neither of them, just be yourself. You'll be happier that way, and people who don't see that don't deserve to know you."
"Okay…"
-o-o-o-o-
Link decided to grow his hair after that. Something resonated with him with that conversation. Maybe the ending when Bolson mentioned that he can be a mixture of the two genders, or maybe neither at all. Whatever the case, he decided that during the short period of times where he would try to do both "feminine" and "masculine" things, he just didn't feel right. So maybe… maybe if he tried out being neither of them, it would be as good as feeling as when he first called himself "she".
The idea of being formless, unrecognizable to either genders… was exciting.
Growing his hair was the first step towards that.
The next day before he left back to Kakariko, Bolson took him to the Kochi Dye shop, not to dye any clothes but to buy some already colored scraps of fabrics. He said the best way for himself to express himself is to wear fun and exciting colors that represent who he is, and that maybe Link should try it out. They bought three scraps, a finger's width and about as long as his forearm, in three separate colors.
"This one is when you feel feminine," Bolson said when they were alone, it dyed a bright pink and it had a simple, little white diamond design on it. At the time, Link was still a woman, so Bolson immediately tied it around Link's wrist. "This one is when you feel masculine," a light blue one, same dimensions but designed with dark red swirls, he placed it in Link's hand. "And this last one is for that pesky third emotion."
It was the hardest for them to pick out. Link didn't like the idea of assigning colors to gender, but Bolson insisted he try it for just a little while, until he figured himself out further. They already knew that pink was traditionally womanly, and blue was traditionally manly, but for an unknown feeling, and unknown emotion, an unknown gender, that was harder to choose out. "What color do you feel during those times?" Bolson had asked.
The color he felt was white.
Not a boring white. The fabric in Bolson's hand was white but also designed with star designs of every color, it was an expensive piece of fabric, a complicated work so colorful and blank at the same time. Yeah, Link definitely felt like that.
The white one was placed in his hands.
Now, the moment he materialized outside Kakariko with the To'loh Naeg Shrine behind him, the pink fabric was untied from his wrist and he replaced it with the blue. It felt so simple, a proof that he had changed in that moment.
Physical. Not in his mind. Real. Valid.
-o-o-o-o-
The only acknowledgement to his new accessory was when Impa gave him a slightly confused look when she happened to look upon the blue scrap of fabric. She didn't say anything on it. Link didn't say anything on it. She just nodded herself, as if the fabric was nothing new. He wondered if she would react the same way to the pink or the white, but he didn't feel quite ready to address that with her.
Apparently, by all evidence, she knew Link from a hundred years ago. He could easily ask her a question that had been eating at him for so long, but at the same time he wasn't sure if he could take the answer. Was he always like this? Did the hero he had to live up to do this? Did he change his colors? Or was this… something new. Something… different.
He didn't know if he could take any answer. He didn't ask. She didn't pry.
After a nights rest and a lot of cooking and playing hide and go seek, she wrapped the pink fabric around her wrist and tightened the strap of her travel bag, making her way towards the uppermost right dot on his Sheikah Slate, showing the location of a Divine Beast. She's told it's past the Lanayru Mountain and Wetlands, at a place called the "Zora's Domain". It's closest, and apparently there's a stable along the way so she could grab Harold and get there even quicker. She's hoping she can stumble upon a few shrines and maybe find some koroks along the way.
Impa said that she should find memories with the fixed camera option, but in all honesty Link would rather not for now.
She waved goodbye to the woman always at the entrance of the village and went on her way, a bounce to her step.
-o-o-o-o-
Sidon was one of the most... interesting people she'd ever met. He seemed totally unaffected by the harsh realities of their world. Not unaffected in the sense that he's ignoring everything, but in the sense that he knew things sucked, he knew his domain was close to flooding and was surrounded by enemies, but he didn't let it put a hamper on him, he didn't let it make him a hard, angry person.
No, instead he chose to smile more, compliment more, encourage all the time. Link's only known him for a few hours, but she already knew that without the constant, constant, encouragement and shouts of praise and affection, she would probably have turned around on that monster infested road to find something easier to do.
But she made it.
Instead of heading up directly to the King's room, she instead explored a little bit, wanting to know the layout of the extremely interesting and unique city, wanting to talk to every Zora, even the elders who seemed to dislike her quite a bit, but instead of being hurt by that, she kept Sidon's words in her heart and continued onward, vowing to prove herself and show that she would never lead a person, especially someone who sounded so nice and beautiful like Mipha, to their death.
She stepped inside the Coral Reef general store pretty late in her exploration, but the encounter she had in there changed everything.
A Goron. That is what… he… she... Um… he… he called himself. Link had conversations with him, stuff about Death Mountain and eating rocks, total normal subjects, but the entire time it boggled her mind how she just couldn't figure out if Reagah was a boy or girl. It wasn't like she needed to know, she just was curious, she hadn't met anyone yet besides Bolson who she couldn't instantly recognize the gender of.
"This is probably going to sound offensive," she said slowly, keeping her expression open and careful, "but are you a girl or a boy?"
She didn't expect the laugh. She expected so many other things, but not a full on belly laugh.
"An understandable question!" Reagah said after he'd finished belting out. He wiped a tear from his eye, smiling widely. "I suppose I would be a boy. All Gorons have the same gender, you see. Long ago, our people adopted the pronouns for males because it seemed most other species recognized us as all males, so we went by that to keep confusion down."
"I- I see. So… what did you call yourselves before?"
Reagah hummed, putting on a thoughtful look as he reached up and scratched his chin. "It was long, long ago. We've always been calling ourselves by "he"… but I suppose it used to be just "them"."
Something stirred in Link's gut, but she couldn't dwell very long on it because she thought she heard Sidon calling her name. She thanked Reagah for being so kind and then walked out, ignoring the glare the elder Zora in the same room was giving her.
Before she traveled up towards where Sidon was waiting for her, she pulled out the white cloth with beautiful rainbow stars and ran it through her fingers.
"Them," she whispered, trying out the word. Something stirred in her gut again, something warm, nice, good.
It felt good.
And for the first time, she looked forward to that third feeling.
-o-o-o-o-
The memory came against her will. Caught her off guard. She went down to help Sidon calm Muzu down after the temper tantrum he threw, and when he looked upon her face, she blinked and she suddenly wasn't there anymore, but sitting upon the trunk of a massive mechanical beast, watching what seemed to be a memory ravel itself out in front of her.
She… he was there. Link, from a hundred years ago, his wound being mended by the Zora girl, Mipha, from that statue. She watched it play out before her, hearing Mipha's words meant only for Link. She could see love, affection in her eyes and she instantly knew where Sidon got it from.
When she returned to the present, she told Muzu and Sidon about her memory, her heart pounding in her chest. Sure, she was happy to remember such a lovely scene at the exact moment she needed it to get on slightly more even grounds with a Zora elder, but also… also because when she watched the memory, her eyes caught on something glinting in the sun. A beaded bracelet around Link's wrist.
The beads were blue.
-o-o-o-o-
She wanted nothing more than to find more memories, to see if that blue bracelet was just an accessory or something like she's doing now (and if they were actual color coded to her gender, where were they now?!). Unfortunately, the well being of the Zora's Domain, Vah Ruta, was more important.
She's told to find shock arrows, and to find shock arrows she went, excitement and hope swirling around her entire being.
-o-o-o-o-
The first time Link used "they" was when the third feeling came over Link, switching she to that new word, as they were running away from the Lynel that finally spotted them as they grabbed their twentieth arrow lodged in a tree.
They should have been terrified, should have been thinking nothing but swears and curses as the Lynel reached for it's bow, but the moment the feeling came over them, all they could think about was how good it felt.
They. They. Thay. They. They.
Over and over in their head that the sound of the bow being loaded with electricity, the impending doom that they could die right here, none of it was noticeable. They sprinted to the highest part of the mountain, to the point where they could practically see everything, even the giant reserve and the Divine Beast below, and without reading the sign, without thinking, they jumped, wind whipping at their hair as they whooped, the sound of an electrical explosion reaching just where they used to be a few moments before.
They hit the water with an amazing splash, and they probably should have been in awe of the Divine Beast in front of them, but nothing could compare to the complete joy and happiness they felt within themselves at that moment.
They.
They did it.
-o-o-o-o-
He forgot to ask her. Mipha was right in front of him. He was dripping, wet, and coming down from an adrenaline high from fighting the blight, and she was standing right in front of him.
He forgot to ask her.
He was in too much awe from seeing her spirit, he didn't think to ask if he was always like this, if he was always switching between three different settings.
He forgot to ask.
It wasn't important in that moment. Calamity Ganon was important.
He still wished he asked her.
-o-o-o-o-
With one Divine Beast on his side, and one corner of Hyrule safer than what it had been in a century, Link packed up his bags and waved goodbye to his new friends. He needed to continue, head to the next place, the next shrine, the next memory, the next adventure. He will return, but probably not for awhile.
From there, the adventure only got harder, but the happiness and contentment within himself never left, always stuck around, always felt so good. Link wore all three colors of fabric with pride and never again was one feared over the other.
Granted, he still didn't quite know what to do with his third gender besides "they" and growing out his hair, but he's working on it.
Excited, he went to Death Mountain next. A terribly hard journey, but the cool fire resistant iron suit he got was… just amazing and so worth it. The most comfortable they'd ever been wearing that white scrap of fabric had been while he was in that suit. It felt so… blank. Like, no assumptions can be based upon it.
It's one of his favorite pieces of armor, sadly he doesn't get to wear it often.
He found that he absolutely loved the Gorons. One called Link a brother while he was actually a… sibling... And they corrected that Goron on instinct. Instantly, the Goron apologized and said "sibling" instead, without any kind of scene made or questions asked.
Gorons are amazing.
Life seemed to be going good, all the way until he gained his second memory.
He hadn't been searching out the others. One looked like it was upon Death Mountain somewhere, but he was too hyped about getting out of the heat and into the village that he forgot about it. It was another statue that dragged him in, one made in the memory of Daruk.
He was so excited, but then he saw that his self from one hundred years ago was still wearing that blue bracelet, and his stomach dropped. He missed most of what was said after.
What if… what if that bracelet was something entirely different? What if it was a keepsake or a gift and it was just coincidentally blue?
After the memory, he pretended to smile, pretended to be ready and raring to go and help stop Vah Rudania, but in reality, the small sliver of hope that Link just happened to identify as a male in both memories got smaller and smaller with each step away from the monument.
-o-o-o-o-
He didn't ask.
Daruk was right in front of him, and he remembered, but he couldn't bring himself to. There wasn't much time, he told himself, he couldn't waste time with something like this.
When really… he was afraid.
So he didn't ask.
-o-o-o-o-
She left Goron City much more down in the dumps than when she went up. She sluggishly dragged her feet down the path of the mountain, not even feeling that comfortable in the fire resistant armor anymore. She kicked rocks in front of her, making a mental plan of what to do next, where to go, when something caught her attention.
She's been here before.
And not in the sense that she's taking the same way down that she took up, but… the cliff to her right looked very familiar.
On instinct, she pulled out her Sheikah Slate and flicked over to the photo album. Her finger tapped on one of pictures later in the album, but it was definitely why it felt so familiar here.
She spent hours looking at this picture, just… wondering where it could be. If she should seek it out. If she should take that risk after the last major disappointment.
It happened here. She took a step forward, hardly thinking about it, another and another until she was overlooking the entirety of Hyrule, the positioning of the castle, the land, the distant mountains, all of it had to be the same. She glanced down at the slate again, she could hardly feel her heartbeat, and she looked up and suddenly she wasn't here.
She was watching a scene from one hundred years ago.
"That cut doesn't look too bad, actually."
The voice came before she saw who was speaking, but she knew who it was. The first voice she'd ever heard.
Zelda.
 "You're fine for now."
Zelda's there, crouching next to Link, surrounded by slayed monsters, looking at something on his body. The cut, perhaps. Link from now purposely looked away from her past self, her breath was already taken by the wonder that is Zelda, she didn't need to completely stop breathing when that stupid blue bracelet reared its ugly head.
"But you know, there's a fine line between courage and recklessness."
She was beautiful. Link had always assumed she was, but seeing her in person just exceeded all expectations and imagination.
She talked some more, talked about how the monsters were getting stronger, attacking in greater numbers. Link's past self said nothing, just sat quietly by as Zelda talked, as if he were already used to just letting her ramble.
Then, Zelda stood up, patting the dust off her pants and looking down on Link. "-and, if that's the case. I'm ready to expect the worst. We'll need to make preparations as soon as possible."
Link nodded, and moved to stand up next to her. The familiarity between the two baffled the present Link. So much, in fact, that she forgot to not look at her past self.
The memory faded.
Her eyes opened.
Her heart was so still. She couldn't feel her fingers or her legs and she stumbled backwards like she had taken a blow. She landed on her rear, metal armor creaking and dust rising around her. She was lightheaded.
"Pink," she whispered. To herself. To the sky. To the volcano. To the Eldin Ostrich minding its own business a few meters behind her. "It… was PINK!"

By the time Link made it to the Rito village, they had gone through many more memories. It was exciting now, to see the bracelets on their past self's wrist, to see the adventure, to find out more about the past to help them with their present. They'd notice that Zelda and Link were not always friends, and during those memories, the ones where Link was forced to be a good soldier, he'd always wear the blue bracelet, or no bracelet at all. But they could see it now, they could almost remember exactly what Link thought way back in those memories. The one where Zelda yelled at Link after following her to the shrine, Link was a boy, he was wearing the blue bracelet to match it. The one where Zelda asked Link about the Master Sword (which still presently needed to be found…), Link was neither.
The memory that snuck up on Link back in the Zora's Domain, Link was a girl. The one with Daruk, Link was a boy.
They can tell now, without even having to search for the bracelet, but it still made them soar when they saw the white on Link's wrist as he rode with Zelda up to the horse statue. Still made them want to pump their first and scream with pure joy when they saw the pink one on Mount Lanayru. Sure, some of these memories were so sad, but it's proof. It's important proof that Link had always been like this.
White while they ran away, when Zelda cried in their arms. No bracelet during the coronation ceremony, but the memory of a pink one hastily stuffed in her back pocket beforehand came back to her too.
They only had a few memories left, and they couldn't wait to see them.
For now, their hair is longer. Reaching the middle of their back. On days when the pink fabric was worn, she liked to practice braiding it up and putting flowers in it when she had time. On blue days, a simple ponytail would do. On white… well, they liked to just let it out. Maybe braid a little bit down the side but that's the most they'll do.
They found they like to wear the Hylian cloak on days when the white fabric was needed. The mountain climbing armor as well, it helped hide the subtle curves or lack thereof on his body and gave a more neutral look.
They're more confident now on correcting at least the koroks on the pronouns. He even taught one about the colors on their wrists and word seemed to spread among them, and before they called him "Mr Hero" he noticed that they'd start to study his wrist first, sometimes going with "Miss Hero" and "Friend Hero" instead. Hero seemed to be a gender neutral term to them, and Link didn't mind.
People were harder. It came up less often. They've told Beedle, Karson, Bolson, and Sidon, but that was about it. They didn't know how confident they were on telling people that he didn't talk to often, or people like Impa who knew him from way before. Link got the feeling only Zelda knew back then, they don't know how or why she was the only one, but they feel like they need to actually talk with Zelda before they start telling the whole world.
Closest friends first.
Then everyone else.
At Revali's Landing, Link was a girl.
Before they left after defeating Vah Medoh, they told Tebo. Tebo didn't seem to care either way what Link was, he was just thankful for their friendship and for the safety of the Rito. Link can only hope the rest of the world felt that way once Calamity Ganon no longer plagued it.
-o-o-o-o-
It had been months since a mishap, so when she approached the Gerudo Fortress, she was sure that they would kick her out. This was it. This was the big test. The Gerudo only allow women into their town, Link had been in a few times out of necessity as a man, dressed as a vai, but that was for the sake of getting to Vah Naboris quickly, with no way of telling when the pink scrap would come out or if they would even let her in.
It didn't feel right to pretend, to force. But it was necessary, the stakes were more important than the discomfort of being a man in women's clothes.
But now… now that she was truly a woman, she had to test it.
She was dressed in her blue champion's tunic, Hylian pants, and her hair was pulled up into a bun with braids trailing up into it. It was evening, so it wasn't too hot or too cold, it was the perfect time to try and walk in… or get kicked out… without having to lie about her gender or dress dramatically like it.
The guards eyed her as she approached and she sucked in a breath.
Just so it.
What if they kick her out?
Just so it.
She doesn't want to be kicked out while she's an actual girl.
Just do it. Rip it off like a bandage and do it.
She let out her breath.
And walked past them.
"Welcome, little vai," one Gerudo said, smiling away towards the horizon, as if she'd known the whole time.
-o-o-o-o-
Link never realized that the final memory was right by the Kara Kara Bazaar until after Vah Naboris was released from Calamity Ganon's control. Link was a man at the time, though at the very end they were genderless. The first time Link had seen her past self change. She saw it in their stance, in the way their face shifted naturally into something different. It was liquid, not rushed or thought too much into. Nothing about them changed, nothing but the gender. No personality, no values, nothing but the gender.
As fluid and ever changing as a river.
-o-o-o-o-
Nothing was revealed with the "memory" of the Master Sword. The Deku tree told him nothing.
But there was a revelation at the real final memory, the one of his death.
As he watched it, he realized he could not remember what gender he was during it. At the moment, it didn't seem to matter. Link… was Link back then. Just a fighter, a knight, and what they identified as did nothing to help Link fight against all odds to make sure Zelda survived.
Link died with a bracelet on, but it didn't mean anything. It was singed black with the blast that dealt the final blow. Noticed by no one as Zelda quickly took it off as the Kakariko soldiers carried the body away.
-o-o-o-o-
It was time. After... months of traveling and helping and self discovering, it was finally time. He'd been in the castle before, to get one of the most dangerous memories he could possibly get, and then he left rather quickly after that, choosing to train more than risk going in further. Now, he was back.
He took his time. Something gave him the feeling that while Zelda had waited long enough, she also could wait a little while longer. There was something important he wanted to check. He knew where Zelda's laboratory was, he just had to find her bedroom. He got the feeling… he got the feeling Zelda left him something there.
It thankfully wasn't hard to find. It wasn't hard to get rid of the monster within it either, he'd grown strong over the months, both in mind and body, so it was of very little effort to get himself alone with the book placed on a desk.
The read was… emotional, but what really got him was the note hastily scribbled in on the back page.
"In the middle drawer," it said, "and thank you. I'm counting on you. Sorry I couldn't find the others. We can look for them together once Hyrule is safe."
He carefully opened the middle drawer of the dresser… and found nothing but a single, singed, black beaded bracelet.
Link slipped it on and put the blue scrap in his pack with the others. Right now, the hero stepping in to save the world was Link. There had been a whole lot of ups and downs, but Link believed it would only get better, once Ganon was no more, once Hyrule was safe, once Zelda was relieved of her one hundred year battle. But first, it's time for Link to be a hero.
And that would never change.

COURTNEY EATON,  GENDERFLUID,  THEY/THEM.  —  looks  like  LUKE ANDERSEN is  attending   AURORIA UNIVERSITY  in  auradon.  they're  the  TWENTY year  old  child  of  ARIEL & ERIC ( * adoptive ! ) ,  which  means  they're  from  ATLANTICA.  heard  they're  HONEST  &  CRAFTY,  but  can  also  be  EASILY DISTRACTED &  SELF-SERVING  ;  we all have our bad days.  people  normally  associate  them  with  LOOSE WHITE SHIRTS BLOWING IN THE BREEZE, WHISPY BRAIDS OF DARK HAIR, STANDING ON A BEACH IN THE MIDDLE OF A STORM, CRASHING WAVES ALONG THE DECK OF A SHIP.  —  hylia,  9teen,  est,  she & they.
when i’m sad , oh god i’m sad ,                                  but when i’m happy, i am happy                                  and there’s just no place in-between                                  for us to meet.                                  playlist. pinterest. to listen as you read.
howdy folks !! so my name is HYLIA , and I’m here to play the sailor datemate of my dreams , LUKE ANDERSEN. I’m still sort of getting the hang of them since they’re a very new character , so I’m sorry if this intro is all over the place !! No TWS for now save for mentions of death , the ocean , and drowning. Hopefully this isn’t too messy !
HISTORY
So Luke is adopted - the child of one of King triton’s servants who passed away from illness. Originally , Triton was going to take them in himself , but instead , Ariel volunteered to care for the little merbaby and raised them as her own. As a result , Triton gave Luke the ability to grow legs on dry land as well as a tail when touched by large amounts of saltwater.
But , they weren’t told of their true heritage as a child. So they believed they were a human for the longest time.
They grew up loving both of their parents to the max but it was DEFINITELY evident they took after Eric more so. They wanted to travel , wanted to explore - and their dad , with his ship and naval prowess , was their hero. So from a very young age , they would accompany their dad on his travels.
It went to the point in which they were taught to pilot a ship themselves - and they even asked for one for their sixteenth birthday. Nothing else , just a vessel of their own. And they got one , naming it The Queen Jocasta.
First voyage on The Queen Jocasta resulted in an attack by pirates - sixteen year-old Luke tossed off the side of the ship , thinking they were about to drown. But , that power they were unaware of for all this time shifted their legs into a tail , and at that point they realized , Wow , Mom and Dad really haven’t told me SHIT.
So that was when they were explained that yeah , they were originally born a mermaid , and yeah , they were royalty both on the surface and under the sea. And that prompted Luke to spend a year in the ocean to get to know their mother’s family - returning to the surface to finish their time in Auradon Prep afterwards. This meant they graduated a year later at nineteen.
And then when that was over , Luke decided ‘ hey, I’m gonna take a trip all around Auradon by BOAT ’ since... that’s their brand , and spent another year just sailing around the different parts of Auradon ( and on the outside of it ) for the fun of it. They’re only just now getting back to Auradon to attend Auroria.
PERSONALITY & FACTS
So one may describe Luke as an ‘old soul’ - they’re very laid back and relaxed , for the most part , keen on their interests and someone who really seems to know a lot beyond how old they are.
Extremely intelligent - there’s a rumor going around that Luke has an eidetic memory , but they won’t confirm or deny it. ( It’s true. )
OBVIOUSLY AGAIN, OCEAN CHILD. Luke loves the ocean and always hangs out on beaches or the docks if they’re not on their actual boat. Because Luke doesn’t have a dorm - no , Luke sleeps on The Queen Jocasta in their cabin. Captain’s quarters and all that.
They love traveling just for the sake of traveling , and they can read a map like it’s nobody’s business.
Big into the classics like art and music DESPITE the fact they can’t paint , draw - but they can carry a tune well and for that reason , they play guitar nicely.
Honestly they’re smart and into the classics and shit but also this can come off as slightly pretentious since they don’t hesitate to remind people how good of a thinker they are - they don’t say it , but they show it.
Also they know how to dance , taking ballet classes when they were younger !! It’s just not something they remind anyone of much.
One more class they took was swordfighting in attempts to learn how to defend themselves . . . and yes , they’re great at it. Scary great.
In terms of a more direct description of their PERSONALITY , Luke tends to approach situations with again , a very laid back attitude but also one that’s brutally honest. They will let you know if they’re pissed off with you and . . . do have a bit of a temper when their nerves are ticked. Luke’s also got a bit of a dangerous tendency to always think they’re on their own and look after number one ( themselves ) and forgets that they can lean on other people for help. This doesn’t mean they don’t care about their allies - no , they greatly care about them. But Luke’s sort of used to being a mysterious , aloof , brooding traveler that they often forget they now have people they can confide in.
They’ll do things that perk their interest - Luke really isn’t going to go out of their way for something unless there’s either something in it for them or they have a personal interest. Also , if they care for the person , but yeah.
There’s a slight cynical streak to them for no other reason than the fact they just always think they have to watch their back - and for the fact people have secrets , like their parents keeping the secret they were a mermaid for a good portion of their life.
I promise they’re not a conceited selfish prick Luke is just VERY . . . aloof. I know I said that before but they’re distant and sort of keep to themselves and what they want.
Their opinion on the villains and heroes coming together is that they really . . . couldn’t care less. They never were really one to focus too much on the Auradon vs. Isle debacle anyway , but also - they can understand why some VKs are pissed. BUT , since this is Luke we’re talking about - that doesn’t mean they’re going to be exceptionally nice to the villain kids , treating them the same as Auradonian kids - casually , trying to get a read on them , probably the same aloof & ‘I could care less’ demeanor they normally keep up.
Also I should mention !! Luke is genderfluid , preferring they/them pronouns like stated before - but when addressing them with their royal title , they prefer to be addressed by the title of Prince. But Captain is even more so preferred.
Captain Luke Andersen just sounds like BDE I’m ,
Listen I love them so much they’re the myserious captain datemate of my dREAAMS
WANTED PLOTS & CONNECTIONS
OKAY SO. When the main puts up their WC page I will be submitting this one but I’d love an ARRANGED MARRIAGE plot for Luke. Basically , arranged while Luke was away traveling - they could either already know this person or are just meeting them now , but they’re not too keen on the idea of arranged marriage but aren’t really doing anything to fight it since it is what it is. They can either get along or hate each other , be best buddies or the like , but I think it’d be so funny if Luke - a wayward soul - was supposed to be arranged to marry someone who always has to make sure they’re not getting into trouble or something since Luke . . . CANNOT stay in the same place. At all. Bonus if this person is super duper sweet and polite in contrast to Luke’s nature of being absolutely crass & unrefined.
Their fiance: I’m so sorry for them Luke: I’m not, peace sign + middle finger motherfucker
And if this evolves in2 an actual ship that’d b up to chemistry n shit but the main idea I had was just. An arranged marriage. Rly we can do whatever n I’d b cool w/ it.
I’d love a crew for them pls. Again - this can be with both Auradon and Isle kids , since Luke gives no shits , but I’d imagine there’s a few Auradon kids who’ve been with Luke for quite some time.
PIRATE RIVALS PLSSSSS bc I know some Isle kids are pirates and that’s B^) juicy shit 2 me.
In general I’d just rly like some friends who try to get past Luke’s aloof & distant & brooding(tm) nature and let them b... soft n stuff.
also friends in general?? great. gimme soft platonic shit bc mgod thats what gets me all the damn time
if there are some royal kids out there who wanna bfriend luke’s ass since childhood n will stick w/them... give it to me.
Flings that Luke’s had either traveling or also just in Auradon in general bc uh yeah they’re lowkey a huge flirt
not 2 be THAT guy but Luke is a dreamboat haha... hahaha...
please clap
first love !! maybe !! idk sb who definitely luke had a thing 4 but it got lost in luke being. well. luke.
“my only love is the sea” stfu
gimmE SOME ENEMIES
AURADON KID ENEMIES
ISLE KID ENEMIES
PPL WHO THINK LUKE IS A FUCKIN PRETENTIOUS DICK BC THEY ARE
PPL WHO ONLY WANNA SEE THEM CRASH N BURN
FRIENDSHIPS THAT TURNED HOSTILE BC AGAIN, LUKE IS... LUKE.
PPL WHO HAVEN’T LIKE LUKE SINCE CHILDHOOD N THEY’VE ALWAYS GOTTEN INTO FIGHTS AND STUFF
I’m so bad writing wcs so maybe one day I’ll sit down and write formal connections so yeah.
BUT YEAH THAT’S IT !! pls pls pls feel free to either like this or hmu for plotting - I highly suggest contacting me on Discord ( rocky lynch lovebot / hylia.#0329 ) bc I’m always on Discord but Tumblr works too !! I promise u guys I don’t bite. I love u all I’m so excited 4 this !!! :^)

— ( courtney eaton, genderfluid, she & they, the legend of zelda ) * &. i know it must be scary for you, princess zelda , after not surviving the takeover. to turn into someone like zelda king, a twenty-three year-old student at castle town university, right here in castle town. just remember that you are as intellectual as you are self-sacrificing, and to be wary, be safe, be true to who you are : heroic through and through. ( hylia / she & they / 19 / est )
hello hello folks m’name’s hylia n this is the love of my h*cking life
— BEFORE CASTLE TOWN.
s’okay we all... pm know who princess zelda is bt IM GONNA GIVE AN INTRO ANYWAY
for starters because of how castle town handles multiple incarnations of the same character, this zelda’s a blend of all but i’ll be basing her mainly on her appearances in breath of the wild and ocarina of time with inklings of wind waker & twilight princess.
also genderfluid n bisexual as hell bc oot zelda was genderfluid and no zelda is straight.
i’m not sURE where i’m pulling her yet bc i do have IDEAS but im not,,, certain so i’ll update this as I Go but
for starters, she’s a smart as hell princess who never was really close to her father - she wanted to pursue her own research & the like while he kept telling her to focus on channeling her divine power to combat ganon
divine power aka every zelda is a descendant of the goddess hylia so yeah this is a goddess bby in actuality gotta love it
also the triforce of wisdom too forgot abt that
coolass light powers to summon light arrows and swords,,,,
and,,, that pm leads to the events of botw and yeah it’s COMPLICATED
i always write my zelda as smart & sweet & intelligent but also with a rebellious streak bc of both breath of the wild zelda going against her father’s wishes to benefit her research ( which would benefit the greater good in the long run ) and also in wind waker she’s literally a fucking pirate and im kinda gay
she is absolutely NOT AFRAID to take matters into her own hands as u can see in
breath of the wild
ocarina of time
wind waker
hyrule warriors even tho it’s not considered canon
twilight princess even tho she was barely in it
i could go on
but yeah okay this is my absolute fAVORITE FICTIONAL CHARACTER OF ALL TIME and im gonna explain zelda king now
— IN CASTLE TOWN.
SOOO zelda grew up w/ a single father in castle town, a lower ranking politician who pm wanted his kid to do the same. probably was on the city council a few times.
zelda, while extremely intelligent and certainly capable of understanding politics from a young age, didn’t have too much of an interest and wanted to pursue her own path
but nevertheless she grew up pretty closed in and trying to live up to her father’s expectations - got the best grades in school, learned how to play the piano, violin, and harp, won a shit ton of young writers’ contests and also did mock trial & debate club in high school
but as she got older, she wasn’t... happy
way more stressed than happy.
so,,, she tried to figure out how to be a little happier - and that’s what led her to learn guitar.
she liked it way more than any of the other instruments she learned ( except the harp, but that was for the reason it always felt right against her hands ) - quickly catching on and teaching herself guitar tricks. politician’s daughter meant she always had a potent allowance , and she secretly purchased a guitar of her own to practice at a friend’s house since lord knows her father would throw a fit if he found her engaging in “rebel stuff”
...well, yeah. she was.
it kind of felt good to be a rebel.
came out as genderfluid at fifteen - i use she/they pronouns for zelda interchangeably and will always let u know which i’m using in that thread
also began to audition for local bands identifying under the name of sheik - often dressed in worn jeans, hoodies, and a scarf around the mouth as mr. king would have a cow if anyone knew what his child was doing
and she got,,, rly good. REAAALLY good. eventually joining a band once she moved out of her dad’s home called the troubadours, sticking with them in castle town.
she’s a college student now - living in the apartments and walking to class every day. majoring in gender studies with a minor in political science - half so her dad doesn’t get on her ass about it and half since she’s taking an interest in politics herself... for different reasons
her dad mainly wanted her to go into politics to keep the family tradition going but zelda actually wants to know more about the government and she ain’t too happy with some shit that goes on nowadays so she’s tryna learn more and get on her way to making a change
def goes to a lot of protests and shit and she does have an intern at city hall bt she’s that intern that might,,, get into a habit of snooping around and doing her own research to see if she can improve the state of castle town and also just. for her own reasons ahshsahshske
so we got a rebellious activist kiddo who takes an interest in politics to infiltrate the fucking system so she can Fight The Fucking System
and also plays in a rock band
imagine sb dressed in a business casual typical work outfit but also has like three piercings in each ear and wears a leather jacket and has a few tattoos
she’s lowkey an icon
my punk princess,,,
she’s my polite punk rebel who’ll nicely tell your ass off and then for you to go fuck yourself w/ teacup in hand
she DOES have her flaws tho like zelda does have a slight issue in the fact that she never feels like she’s doing enough n a lot of it stems from feeling like a disappointment in her past life bt she doesn’t,,, know it
zelda always wonders if there’s more that she COULD do but either a.) she’s not capable or b.) she’s not trying hard enough and it WRECKS HER and it does honestly render her a lil insecure
yes i have a lot of feelings abt botw zelda bye
also def has a triforce somewhere tattooed on her body maybe her wrist idk where yet but she got it once and doesn’t rly know why
one thing she does is that she unknowingly plays a lot of the ocarina songs from the zelda games on her guitar without even... knowing. like. she just does.
also sheik is a harpist in game so do u like what i did w/ making modern sheik a fuckin,,, rebel w/ a guitar who sings shit like green day and rage against the machine in a band i love modern aus
sheik is also never seen w/o a hoodie and a scarf tbh they’re not only comfy bt also like... nobody knows sheik is zelda. no-one. zelda wants 2 keep it that way.
god i love my princess ANYWAY IM SCHEDULING THIS TO POST A FEW MINS AFTER WE OPEN SO IM PROBABLY EITHER ON THE MAIN OR WRITING SYLVAIN’S INTRO AS WE SPEAK ( who is way less great than zelda tbh )

( genderfluid ) haven’t seen DAKOTA SAMPSON around in a while. the ALEX TURNER lookalike has been known to be (+) INDEPENDENT & (+) PROTECTIVE, but HE/THEY can also be (-) HOT-TEMPERED & (-) TURBULENT. The 24 year old is a SENIOR majoring in THEATRE. I believe they’re living OFF CAMPUS ( at home ) but I popped by earlier and no one answered the door.
yes I AM an Arctic Monkeys fan , what gave you that idea !! ‘sup guys I’m Hylia and we don’t know self-control so I’m already back at it again with hitting my muse limit and applying for Dakota here. A note : Dakota’s an old muse but the only thing I’ve changed about him is his name ( along with modifying stuff to fit the connection I took and Watershed biz ) , so if you ever hear me call him Spencer , sorry for the slip-up - that’s just what his name was beforehand. But ANYWAYS , more under the cut !!
v brief mention of homophobia + transphobia and also... frequent mentions of religion.
STARTING OUT
k so I also highly rec you read Jackie’s intro bc Katie made this family and I’m just hopping in on the sibling ride
so yeah their parents were fuckin,,, picture-perfect religious fam on the outside but that’s not good 4 the fuckin’ kids and from the start Kota was always the problem child. Never sat still in church, always tended to gravitate towards the “dark/satanic” stuff and over time he was so used to being accused of that shit he sort of... embraced it ??
Lemme explain.
so Dakota was often punished for even batting an eye at stuff his parents didn’t like so he grew angry he wasn’t allowed to like certain shit and that just upped him liking it and taking part in that stuff tenfold.
It started innocently when he was young - he’d take his allowance, march on over to the closest store that sold CDs and bought every heavy rock album he could find. Linkin Park, Metallica, Rise Against, Sixx AM,  that shit.
Then it escalated to taking an interest in SFX makeup, especially the gory part. Snuck out on Halloween to trick-or-treat and collect candy in the best costume he could make for himself.
Watched horror movies and played darker video games when he’d sneak out and would often take an interest in the decoration , the acting...
Then he started saving up and buying black clothes, ripped jeans, faux leather jackets, and even getting his ears and lip pierced. Threw temper tantrums when his parents told him to cut his hair. Got a tattoo of his sister’s name on his wrist with forged parental approval.
Started dating kids who had a reputation on being on the wrong side of the tracks !! Also came out as bi & genderfluid and lived in an extremely religious household so . . . ( tw : homophobia & transphobia ) they didn’t react well. But he flaunted it. He rubbed it in their fucking faces every chance he got since that was who he fucking was , and if you don’t like it ?? SHOVE IT.
But yeah. He always had a strained relationship with his parents for that reason. He was known as the black sheep of the family , the problem child. It was AMAZING he was so close with his younger sister , Jackie.
His sister was his everything. Perhaps the only person Dakota was certain cared about him and for that , swore to protect her. Especially against their parents and what Dakota considered their BACKWARDS methods of parenting.
So , he sorta took to parenting her himself - teaching her life skills and survival skills and how to deal with their parents.
TATIANA
okay - Tatiana’s relationship with Kota is kind of important so I wanna get this out of the way before I dive too deep into his character + personality
when they were younger, everyone thought he and Tatiana would get together. Everyone did. Whenever the Sampson and Samuels families would get together, he and Tatiana would immediately gravitate towards each other. They often spared each other glances in church, and he claims Tatiana fell in love with his “rebel” persona.
He even took her to senior prom.
But they never officially dated - they’d hang out regularly , yes , but they never considering themselves more than just friends . . . and then some. He often snuck into Tatiana’s bedroom by climbing through her window , often
Besides , he was the bad boy who renounced God in his family and Tatiana was the preacher’s daughter. How could they ??
Well . . . they still slept together. Quite often , actually. He often routinely visited her for such in her dorm at Lockwood , and it didn’t matter if she had a boyfriend or not. If she asked him to spend the night with her , he would.
He wrote Tatiana love letters he doesn’t know if she even opened. But it was very obvious Dakota harbored some feelings for her that went beyond friends with benefits. Tatiana may have felt the same - who knows ??
She led him on and played him like a fiddle. Maybe he knows about it , but refuses to accept it. He thinks she was genuinely in love with him , or he tells himself that to feel better and not so embarrassed.
Needless to say , he was struck with grief when she died. He wanted to be more than an ex-almost , but unfortunately , that was only how far they got.
PERSONALITY / CHARACTER
Dakota’s your stereotypical rebel without a cause - he’s loud , he’s unfiltered , and he doesn’t give a FUCK about your opinion so again , SHOVE IT.
But he’s not a bad dude at all - he’s actually pretty open-minded and a little wild , but fun to hang out with. He’ll be honest with you about his opinion on you - and he is NEVER one to shy away from his emotions or hide how he feels.
Believe it or not , the only vices he has are drinking every now and then ( normally nothing more than beer ) and smoking. Hasn’t touched drugs once in his life , not even weed.
He’s very outspoken and will fucking !! Tell you !! What he thinks !! Even - no , ESPECIALLY if you don’t want to hear it.
Half the time he says shit to piss people off and get a reaction. I’m sorry this is just how he is.
DEFINITELY someone into the horrific / creepy shit. He keeps the ID Channel on as background noise and can watch most horror movies and play horror video games without flinching.
Kinda sleeps around a lot and he knows not to attach sex to romance but also . . . it’s like. Horribly easy to lead him on. He can get attached to people and it’s so easy to tell when he’s got a crush so it’s sort of easy to manipulate him like that.
He’s VERY into acting !! He’s a showman , he likes attention. And portraying someone that isn’t him is one of the most fun things to do. And he’s wicked great at it - there’s something about having a hundred eyes on him that gives him confidence and validation where some may clam up.
... Also an attention whore but not a conceited jerk kind of attention whore.
Also into music , but it’s just a background thing. He knows how to play GUITAR and also the DRUMS , and can sing really well.
He’s short-fused as hell. It’s so easy to get him fired up as long as you say the right words , and it’s really easy to pick out what those words are. Mention or say anything negative about Tatiana or his sister and he’s on your ass.
Again , love makeup and does a lot of SFX makeup in his free time !! So yeah it’s a lot of creepy / gory shit and definitely not something his parents would approve of.
On the subject of his parents , he still lives with them but only to take care of Jackie. And whenever he’s with them , he does whatever he can to piss them off or to make them disapprove of him even MORE. So far , he’s been sliding inklings he worships the Devil and makes jokes about eloping or marrying people with careers the toxic religious people frown upon.
Yeah he really. Doesn’t like his parents. And he doesn’t want his parents to like him.
Jackie’s the best tho.
Also call him Kota or Kody or Koakoa Puffs or any puns with his name I’ll take it
WANTED PLOTS / CONNECTIONS
friends he has that know he was rly into Tatiana but were also aware of how she led him on
they either fuel his false hopes
or try to knock some sense into him by telling him the truth ( never listens tho )
PEOPLE ,,, who really disapprove of how he is for whatever reason. Could be someone who was close with the Samuels’ and know Tatiana was involved with him but they can’t stand the idea of her fucking someone like him.
Soft people he goes protective papa bear over !! Bc he would !! He totally fuckin would !!
People he regularly butts head with and just wants to get a fucking reaction out of bc again , that’s the name of the game
Theatre buddies !! Theatre buddies who he gets REALLY into it with
Or even theatre rivals , who don’t like his personality / need for attention
Fuckbuddies bc again Dakota sleeps around and sees no shame in it
Also ppl maybe who are attracted to him oNLY bc of the bad boy aesthetic / thing he’s got going on ??
Okay it’s late and I’m drawing more blanks but as always LIKE THIS FOR A PLOTTING IM !!

OH okay listen legend of zelda headcanon time. lots of spoilers from lots of different LoZ games below the cut.
the points i’ll be drawing from:
calamity ganon’s big pull on the world in Breath of the Wild is the “Blood Moon” right.
Demise is the source of Ganon’s power. And pay attention to the following from Zelda Wiki: “It is worth noting, however, that according to Fi, Demise appears differently to everyone who sees him.” and.... demise’s source of power is eating hylia’s power at the end of skyward sword, apparently.
Ganon is Ganondorf’s beast form only? i think?? happens when demise+triforce power comes into play.
regarding Link: “Miyamoto and Nintendo designers themselves pointed out several times that the focus of the series lies in the player's personal experiences and in the concept of "the player being the hero," with Link as his/her avatar.[31][32]In that way, he was made blank so the human player can fill him with his/her own characteristics, experiences, motivations, feelings, thoughts and emotions. While he is traditionally known as Link, even his name is chosen by the player.[33] This is in order to allow the player to enter this fantasy world and to have an intimate experience with it, and with those who live in it. So, the intention is for his role in dialog and plot to be filled by the words and thoughts of the player, to some extent. His speech is usually replaced with simple and concise answers that the player can pick.”
so i have... thoughts around these bits, but they have not coalesced into a coherent headcanon yet.
first, blood moon. that sounds. suspiciously. like menstruation to me.
the triforce comes from goddesses and is protected by a goddess and later by goddess-powered descendants & chosen ones
link is pretty androgyne. and i’m going with that rather than undifferentiated based on how pretty & handsome everyone canonly finds link
if ganondorf takes after link’s image of demise, then that paints a much more complicated picture of the triforce fated ones than i’ve previously thought
i have a half-formed headcanon about ganondorf being trans and that’s why it’s so rare that the gerudo have men but,,, then i looked at the implications,,,,,, and given that not everyone thinks of link as trans girl or genderfluid,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, well anyway that’s why it’s half-formed because that’s when i abandoned it
random thoughts inspired by this research:
i need to play Link to the Past and Minish Cap.
twilight princess’s zelda design is so forgettable compared to Midna and wolf link. like??? why????? and the only real brunette zelda too. shame.
i think i played phantom hourglass at one point, but have apparently forgotten most everything about it. why was it so forgettable???
what if fi had a more human-looking-form like ghirahim. i like to believe she’d be just as creepy but in a well-meaning way instead of intimidating haah
why is the imprisoned a muppet. one of the worst design choices ever i’m sorry it’s not even like that boss ‘challenge’ was ever fun either like??? whyyyyyyyyyy
i have now seen demise in a pin-up pose with bikini bottoms. thanks, internet.
apparently there’s an artist who does a lot of furry/anthro/feral? headcanons for LoZ characters. huh. of course that existed, but i never thought about it.
is hylia really a god or just like. a time-travelling phlebotnium scientist who was originally skyward sword’s zelda and then just fucked around with the timeline when she discovered/led herself to discover the time travel bit
