Another J?
Summery: A trip to the zoo doesn't go as planned...
Warnings: Natasha x reader, Jeff causing trouble, fluff
A/N: A sequel to The Three Js! Please enjoy the family mayhem.
“Mrr? Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!” Jeff stared up at you with big puppy dog eyes, mrr-ing and nudging your leg.
You glanced up from your laptop, where you were working on mission reports. “Hey bud, I’m a little busy right now, what’s up?”
“Mrrrr!” Jeff kept telling you, as he gently grabbed your pant leg in his teeth and tugged lightly. Of course he wanted you to follow him.
“Listen Jeff, I need to finish up these reports by next week. Can you go bother your mom? Or maybe one of your brothers?”
Jeff sighed and sat down defeatedly, continuing to stare at you sadly. You went back to work, doing your best to ignore his silent pleading. Which turned out to be almost impossible. You could feel Jeff’s big sad eyes watching you, leaving you completely unable to focus on your work. Eventually you sat back in your chair and rubbed your eyes, groaning softly. Jeff took this as his cue to jump into your lap. He nuzzled your face with his nose and looked at you hopefully.
“Alright Jeff. You win. I could use a break anyway. What do you want to show me?”
Jeff leapt off your lap with a happy, “mrrr!” and ran out of the room making a beeline for the kitchen. Despite his short legs, Jeff moved surprisingly fast and you had to hustle to catch up with him.
You caught up to Jeff in the kitchen, where you also found your wife making herself a cup of tea.
“What’s up with Jeff?” asked Natasha when she saw you come in. “He’s been at you all day. Does he need something?”
“No idea, but he’s supposed to be showing me now.”
You both turned to look at Jeff. He was sitting at the fridge, staring up at it intently.
“Are you hungry bud? Is that what this was all about?” You asked him.
“Mrrrr.” Jeff shook his head quickly and continued to stare intently up at the fridge.
“Its typically food he’s after.” Natasha remarked. “Interesting.”
You and Natasha stared at the fridge with him. It was cluttered with scraps of paper, artwork, take-out menus, receipts, grocery lists, and an assortment of magnets. Jeff huffed, obviously frustrated you didn't catch on to what he wanted.
You looked over the decorations on your fridge, most of which you were familiar with. And then something new caught your eye. You grabbed the flier for the zoo and Jeff immediately mrrrrr-ed happily and danced around your feet.
You laughed. “Guess we found what he wanted. Where did this come from?”
“It came in the mail yesterday.” Natasha shrugged. “Figured it could be fun to go at some point, so I just put it up here”
Jeff was now gleefully running circles around the kitchen. You watched him for a moment as she turned back to you. “It seems like someone really wants to visit today. Think we could take a trip?”
You smiled. “Yeah, I don't see why not. Gather up the boys, and let's go.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the zoo, you quickly learned many things. Jonathan, a wolverine, seemed to think he was better than any of the animals in the exhibits, especially the wolves. Poor Jroki almost passed out when you walked by the alligator enclosure and you had to quickly usher him away. Jeff loved the penguins. Natasha swore he could have spent hours watching them through the glass.
After a few hours of walking around, and a quick snack at the cafe, your little family was checking out the last of the exhibits before going home. You came upon one of the last enclosures and Jroki and Jonathan both stopped to peer in. After realizing it was empty, Jonathan growled in disappointment.
“Sorry Johnny,” Natasha said, patting his head. “Looks like no one is home.”
You leaned in to read the sign on the fence. “It’s supposed to house a wombat. That’s too bad, I wonder what happened to her.”
“Maybe she hasn't moved in yet.” Natasha turned to the boys, “Alright you three, shall we head home?”
Two pairs of eyes looked back at you.
“Um…Y/N?”
“Yes Nat?”
“Where’s Jeff?”
“You know, that's a great question.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jeff, of course, was off finding his own adventure. Some point after the stop at the cafe, Jeff decided he wanted to go back to see the penguins again. So he did, assuming the rest of you would see him leave and follow along. After watching the penguins for a bit, he turned around and realized he didn't see you. Or Natasha. Or either of his brothers. The realization he was alone struck him and he started to run, desperately trying to find any of you.
After about 10 minutes of no luck, Jeff climbed on top of a park bench to rest and get a better view of his surroundings. As he sat, he heard a rustle from the bushes behind him. Jeff immediately whipped around to find the source of the noise. From the bush came a soft grunting and some more signs of movement. Being the ever curious landshark, Jeff decided to investigate and immediately dove right  into the bushes.
Upon landing, Jeff came face to face with……well he wasn't sure what she was. She was around the same size as him. She was covered in soft brown fur and had small ears with a big nose. Whatever she was, she looked scared and lonely. Jeff knew just how he could help her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and Natasha quickly realized Jeff must have decided to look at the penguins again, so you started off in that direction. You were quickly making your way towards the penguins when Jonathan and Jroki suddenly took off running. You and Natasha immediately took off after them, shouting their names. This of course, earned you many weird looks from the other zoo goers.
You caught up to the boys sitting on a bench outside of the cafe, along with Jeff and another small creature. Jeff let out a proud, “Mrrr!” when you walked up, excitedly looking between you and the animal sitting next to him.
You groaned softly. “Oh boy, here we go again. What is it this time? A capybara?”
Natasha frowned and shook her head. “No, not a capybara. I’m pretty sure she’s a wombat. She’s probably the one from that empty enclosure.”
“She must have escaped.” You said, “should we grab a zookeeper so they can put her back?”
Jeff mrrr-ed sadly and frowned at you, while leaning closer to the wombat. The wombat leaned into Jeff and closed her eyes, grunting happily.
“Y/N…we can’t make her go back.”
You turned to Natasha incredulously, “I’m sorry what?”
“I mean think about it. It’s got to be really lonely spending your whole life in a cage. We could give her a home. Like we did for the boys.”
“Natasha, I get it. But we can’t just steal her from the zoo.”
She raised an eyebrow at you. “Why not?”
You chuckled softly and shook your head. “Okay, okay, you’re right. Why not? We’ll take her home.”
“MMRRRRR!!!” Jeff jumped up and down and celebrated with his brothers and the wombat. Natasha hugged you tight and kissed your cheek. “Thank you Y/N. Let’s get her out of here.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back at the compound, you and Natasha sat on the couch watching your boys and the wombat play together.
“Well, we got her home. Now what?” You said. “We already have the three boys. Are we able to keep the wombat too? We are both pretty busy people, and already have our hands full with the others.”
Natasha sighed. “I know what you mean. It would really be a lot. But we couldn't have left her there.”
“No, of course not.” You thought for a moment. “Even if it's not with us, we could still give her a nice home. Maybe give her to Wanda? I’m sure her twins would love a friend.”
Natasha nodded. “That's a really good idea. Wanda has talked about wanting to get the boys a pet. And that way Jeff and the rest could still visit her regularly.”
“Okay then, we’ll offer her to Wanda. But we also can't just keep referring to her as ‘the wombat’. She needs a name too.”
“You’re right. We’ll need to stick to the J theme.” agreed Natasha. “Any ideas?”
“Jessica?”
“Hmm no. Jennifer?”
“I’m not feeling it. How about Jill?”
Natasha smiled. “Jill. I like it.”
You leaned against Natasha’s shoulder. “You know, we're turning into quite the animal rescuers.”
She shook her head. “Not us, it's all Jeff. We might have found him, but he found Jonathan, Jroki, and now Jill.
You smiled. “We’re raising quite the landshark, huh?”
Natasha laughed.  “I wonder what adventure he’ll get himself into next?”

...Another J?
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Reader, featuring Jeff the Landshark, Jonathan the Wolverine, and Jroki the Crocodile
Words: 1.4k  Warnings: none
Summery: A trip to the zoo doesn't go exactly as planned.
A/N here is an unofficial sequel to The Three Js! They can be read in any order, but I do suggest you read it first. I think I might be getting the hang of this whole ‘writing’ thing....
“Mrr? Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!” Jeff stared up at you with big puppy dog eyes, mrr-ing and nudging your leg.

the great adventures of y/n and ranboo
this is an extra part to the great adventures series
summary: part two to the angst imagine (the not so great adventures of y/n tommy tubbo jack and ranboo) it’s a happier ‘ending’ please read what is written in bold
this is an “alternative ending” around 15 years into the future this doesn’t mean this is actually how the series is going to end im writing it now and including it as part of series as their friendship is already established i can confirm y/n and the group are going to have a happy ending when the series eventually comes to an end this also does not mean the series is anywhere near the end i plan on continuing the series as vlogs come out, i feel the need to confirm this now love between y/n and ranboo in this imagine is completely platonic
it had been about a month since you last streamed whereas ranboo continued to stream a few days after the fallout as he wanted to make sure you were going to be okay. even though ranboo knew this huge fallout would eventually happen, it still hurt him, especially since he knew there was no way to prevent it, the four of you in the same house mixed with the stress of being some of the most-watched content creators made living rather difficult. it was like walking on eggshells as you didn’t want to interrupt someone's stream, then there was the additional stress of obsessive fans finding out where the four of you lived, you still remember that day very vividly. you were sat in between tubbo and ranboo watching the office whilst Tommy was in an interview when you received a message from your mod.
Chris: hey y/n I received this message earlier I don’t want to scare you, but maybe get the locks changed. someone sent a message claiming this is your address *image of message from ‘fan’*
it didn’t take long for tubbo and ranboo to receive a message from their mods saying the same thing
“holy shit...”
“chances are Tommy has the message too. we shall go check around the house when Tommy is done with the interview.”
luckily no one ever showed up to the house, but the fact some people were so obsessed to the point they found your address was enough to put everyone in the house on edge. and now it was just you and ranboo in the house. you didn’t feel safe as even though ranboo promised to not let anything happen, you didn’t wanna risk it.
“we should move. there’s no point in having such a big house for two people, what are we going to use the extra space for heh? hide and seek with people who have our address. no thank you. I say we move leave this mess behind and start completely over, hell I’d feel safer in the us and that’s saying something”
ranboo agreed the house didn’t have the happiest memories attached to it anymore, it hurt walking past the hallway as it would bring back the memory of him crying into the crook of y/ns neck whilst tubbo left the house.
“let’s do it, I’ll do an early stream then we can look for houses. go take a shower. I’ll stay close to the door so you’re safe, then you can stay in my room whilst I stream, you can join me if you would like.”
“you’re being very protective all of a sudden...let me guess you got the message from our mods announcing the obsessive fans are at it again?”
“go take a shower.”
“no.”
ranboo ended up picking you up, carried you to the bathroom and turned the shower on before putting you on your feet.
“quick shower I’ll see you later.”
and with that he left the room shutting the door behind him, 30 minutes later you got changed and followed ranboo to his room ready to join him whilst he streams
“hey boo, can I join you? I kinda wanna get into streaming again.”
“I'm so glad you asked, I was going to do a face cam stream, if that’s okay?”
“of course.”
you grabbed his mask and glasses whilst he locked the door so you were both safe. “here you go.”
“thank you.”
the pair of you started the stream and it was honestly going well, you were having so much fun you forgot about all the negative things currently going on, you began to understand why ranboo continued streaming as for those 2-4 hours of streaming it felt as though everything was back to normal. 3 hours later the two of you ended stream and Twitter went crazy. tweets ranged from fans talking about how ranboo was streaming with you, how Tommy was in chat, and how tubbo was modding as people who mentioned anything about their address being leaked were banned by tubbo. the one thing that caught ranboos eye was fan art and a picture of you both from the stream captioned ‘they’re platonic soulmates your honour’ ranboo went as far to like, retweet and comment on it.
ranaltboo: glad you liked the stream it was great having y/n back, think I might make them play tattletail next stream
definitelynoty/n: isn’t that the Furby game that terrified you in 2021? bring it on boo!
Twitter went crazy over this interaction, you had finally come back to social media after months of being inactive, and it looked like you were here to stay. a month later you and ranboo moved out of the house and sold it to your aunt and her wife and their three adopted children, you explained the situation and even changed the locks for them all before they moved in.
“Please do tell us if anyone shows up who shouldn’t be. we changed the locks as you were aware- oh hello little one.”
you noticed one of their children decided to cling onto your leg
“I like your hair it’s colourful!”
“Indeed it is.”
“WOAH A GIANT!”
the little girl let go of your leg and ran to ranboo asking to be picked up, unsure of what to do he looked towards you. however, you were too busy laughing about the fact he was compared to a giant.
“I'm so sorry uh if you want to pick her up you can, you don’t have to.”
“pick me up, tall man... I want to be taller!”
ranboo ended up standing next to you with an arm around your waist whilst the child sat on his shoulders happily playing with his hair.
“ranboo do not drop that child.”
“I didn't- I didn't plan on it y/n.”
eventually, it was time to leave and the child reluctantly let go of ranboo.
“bye-bye!! hope to see you soon!”
soon enough you were at a smaller house, far away from the old house, leaving behind the negative feelings. it could only get better, a week later the pair of you had settled into the new house, it finally felt like home. you and ranboo were now streaming full time again, safe to say the two of you were thriving and closer than ever.
“so I’m thinking if I hit the sub-goal today I’ll let chat pick what colour I dye my hair.”
“make it higher, and I’ll let you cut my hair.”
“Are you being serious? oh my god!”
a few minutes later you took to Twitter to announce you were going live.
y/n: kidnapping children in the sims with ranboo psst check the subgoal.
within 20 minutes you had hit the sub-goal, chat ended up picking another random neon colour for your hair.
“right hair dye and the cutting stream will be this weekend, now let’s go back to kidnapping.”
tubbo, tommy, and jack felt awful for what happened and went back to the house where you used to live, hoping to see you there so they could apologise, tubbo knocked on the door only to be met by a young child.
“my sister watches you on twitch!”
“oh that’s lovely.. are y/n and ranboo here?”
an older woman came to the door.
“oh no, I’m sorry dear they both moved out, but they left this box and said to give it to you if you returned.”
“do you know where they moved to?”
“I'm sorry dear, I'm not allowed to tell you that information for safety reasons.”
“I understand, thanks anyway.”
they ended up going back to jacks where the three of them had been staying.
“We should open the box.”
tubbo opened the box and emptied the items onto the floor, inside was the rocks y/n handed tubbo from every trip, photos of the group, a necklace y/n had gifted to Tommy a day before the argument, and a hat y/n had taken from jack during a trip to a zoo.
“what the fuck!”
“holy shit!”
“they really kept all these in hopes we would come back?”
“and now we’re too late.”
it was now the weekend you and ranboo were ready to stream, you stood leaning on ranboo who was significantly smaller than you as you lowered the chair he sat on.
“starting stream...now.”
after the starting soon intro played, you explained what was happening to any new viewers or people who didn’t watch the stream.
“so I’m about to become Edward Scissorhands...I love that film can we watch it later?”
“yeah mhm sure!”
you didn’t know this but your ex best friends were watching and ever so often would show up in the chat.
“so boo, what are we doing with your hair today?”
“just a trim please darling?”
“This is y/ns hairdressers you get what I’m capable of!”
you ended up doing a pretty good job of cutting ranboos hair, even he was impressed.
“I didn’t doubt you for a minute!”
“mhm sure thing please don’t mess up my hair tall one!”
soon enough you had the dye on. 45 minutes later you left to wash it off, leaving ranboo to entertain stream,
“chat I think I missed some of their hair it’s okay, I own scissors, I’ll just cut it.. speaking of they did a great job, didn't they? I honestly expected them to mess up.”
a few minutes later you joined ranboo again and spent the next few hours talking with chat. tubbo, tommy, and jack stayed the entire time. they loved the fact you and ranboo were able to stay close after what happened, Tommy noticed you were still wearing the necklace he got you many years ago and spammed them chat with him tubbo and jack
Tommy: THEYRE WEARING THE NECKLACE!!
jack: so what? they clearly don’t wanna talk to us.
tubbo: shut up listen to them.
“chat why are we spamming platonic soulmates?”
“they’ve been saying it all over Twitter, look on trending y/n.”
you started to blush slightly at all the amazing artwork soon enough the stream came to an end, after saying goodbye the pair of you sat together going through fan art. unfortunately the one that caught your eye was this one twitter post where the artist had created a drawing of a piece of paper with you, ranboo, tommy, tubbo, and jack, however the paper was ripped separating you and ranboo from the others, captioned ‘it was never meant to be’ this clearly upset ranboo as he took off his mask and glasses placing them on the desk before going straight to his bed.
“boo…are you okay?”
“Are you tired of me? are you going to leave next?”
“what? no of course not! I could never get tired of you, why do you ask?”
“everyone else has left..i thought they cared about us, i knew it would happen eventually and i couldn’t stop it, i’m sorry, y/n, please don’t hate me.”
you sat on the edge of the bed looking down at the floor,
“come here.”
you watched him roll over to face you.
“you know there’s no one else who I'd rather spend the rest of my life with, right…if i hated you i wouldn’t have moved house with you. it’s not your job to fix everything and make everything better, you’re a streamer for christ sake not a therapist.”
“i guess so.. can we watch that thing you were on about for ages.”
“edward scissorhands? “
“mhm!”
you could tell he wanted to be distracted, so you agreed and put the film on, towards the end you began to get upset due to how overwhelming everything was.
“Why are you crying?”
“poor Edward.”
“come here.”
ranboo pulled you into a hug you laid there crying into his chest, he knew that wasn’t the reason you were crying, but he wasn’t about to make you tell him, luckily it didn’t take long for you to stop crying as ranboo quickly distracted you.
“ranboo..”
“yeah y/n?”
“I feel bad i didnt realise how much pressure was on you whilst everyone was arguing.”
“Hey, it’s okay, is that what’s upsetting you?”
“mhm.”
“don’t blame yourself, i’d do it all over again to keep you safe and happy..then again i didn’t do a good job on keeping you happy.”
“you did..you were always there for me even when i gave up on social media, you shared your room with me after i started receiving creepy messages from that obsessed fan, hell you even went on adventures with me even though it was clear you hadn’t been sleeping, just so we could spend time together and forget about what was happening. you mean a lot to me boo.”
“i love you.”
“i love you too bud, I’m tired.”
“go to sleep, it’s been a long day.”
“okay.”
“you just staying there?”
“yes.”
“oh, oh okay, goodnight.”
about a year later the two of you were still thriving, ranboo got you a promise ring a few months earlier.
“heh what’s this for?”
“as your best friend i promise to stay by your side and keep you safe and make sure that you’re happy, in other words you're stuck with me till the end of time.”
“boo…i really don’t know what to say.. thank you so much!”
“you don’t have to say anything!”
you ended up going out to buy him a promise ring when he started the stream and decided to take your cousins with you now that they were a little older. ranboo was doing a facecam stream when the door slammed open revealing you covering your three younger cousins ranboo not realising you were hiding them from the camera, instinctively stood up covering the camera
“ranboooooo!”
“yes you three and y/n ,what do you need?”
“we would like to watch a film!”
“Okay, i’ll go put one on, y/n will you entertain chat?”
“sure thing boo boy!”
once they left you sat fixing your hair forgetting you were wearing the ring chat noticed this and went crazy, so did Tommys group with tubbo and jack.
tubbo: that’s a ring, right??
jack: yeah looks like it.
Tommy: holy shit I always thought if anyone was gonna get married it would be tubbo and y/n, they were inseparable.
tubbo: hilarious.
jack: it could just be a ring, no one mentioned marriage tommy!
Tommy: we should congratulate them.
jack: at least let them explain fucking hell.
soon enough ranboo came back into the room,
“sorry one of them found it hilarious to steal my glasses...”
“they’re little shits i swear to god but i love them.”
you both noticed chat going crazy and both looked at each other before laughing.
“i'm sorry, i can’t take you serious in the mask and glasses!”
“i can’t take you serious with neon hair, but here we are!”
“rude!”
you and ranboo quickly put an end to the rumours,
“no we’re not engaged or married, it is a promise ring. no they’re not our children, they’re y/ns cousins they just spend a lot of time here..chat stop calling me and y/n parents and comparing us to phil that’s not..that’s not how it works okay!”
“parent arc!”
“y/n, don’t encourage them!”
“it’s a little bit funny!”
soon enough the bit came to an end and eventually ranboo ended the stream.
“hey boo look what i got you”
you handed him a little black box, inside was a ring similar to yours
“i promise to always stick around and be here for you”
“oh my god”
ranboo tackled you into a hug thanking you several times for his rings. you and ranboo were living your best life meanwhile jack, tommy, and tubbo were stuck dealing with the guilt of what happened, but they’re weren’t giving up that easy. they wanted you both back, that’s when you received a notification, tommyinnit has sent you a message request: hey y/n can we talk..please?

Warning: Really detailed snuggling
Match: Natasha Romanoff x reader
Genre: Fluff
A/N: this was supposed to be about Natasha stealing peoples clothes. and then it wasn’t. oopsie. I’ve never written this detailed snuggling soooo. Hopefully it’s good. I’m lowkey having writing burnout rn. anyway have a nice day lovelies.
Tumblr media
Natasha never really had a family until joining the avengers. Sure she had Yelena, melina, and Alexei back in the red room. You had met them though, they were all so similar to nat and intense all the time that it would be impossible for her to feel what an actually family is like. She was amazed how odd and beautiful her avengers family was. And with her new found family she had newfound habits. She loved to snuggle and plan movie nights with the crew. She always made coffee for everyone and had their personal schedules by memory. The most embarrassing for her was how she loved to steal other people clothes. It was a several year long process with many people involved to get Nat realise and accept her feelings for you. You asked her out multiple times and she rejected you mercilessly despite Clint assuring you her cold demeanour was a facade. Eventually she broke down and admitted her feelings. The whole event was emotional, heartbreaking, and beautiful. You love Nat with every fiber of your being. And she loves you.
Nat started stealing people’s hoodies and sweatpants once she got comfortable. Fortunately due to her determination to ignore you she left your closet alone. You walked into the kitchen. It was late morning. You didn’t have any meetings today and we’re going to take full advantage of it. Nat was already in the kitchen making what probably was her third cup of coffee. You walked up behind her and wrapped your arms around her placing a kiss on her temple and when she relaxed into your touch you placed a few more kisses along her jaw and neck. She reached a hand down to lace her fingers through yours. “ good morning baby. You sleep well?” She nodded. “ yeah, I wish you would come snuggle with me.” You blushed slightly she had never talked about the two of you spending time alone in each other’s rooms.sure you had done the whole lay you head on the others shoulder while watching a movie. “Y-yeah I would Love too..” you turned your head away embarrassedly. She moved her body around and placed her own kisses along your mouth before pulling for a deep kiss.when the two of you pulled away for breath and you looked her up and down. Your eyes landed on a familiar hoodie. “ Is that my hoodie?” You asked her with a smirk. She acted embarrassed as tried to hide her face with the overly long sleeves. A muffled “maybe” came from behind the yellow fabric. You giggled. “Baby you look so adorable right now. Hey it’s my day off why don’t we watch a movie or something?” Natasha just nodded. “ I would really like that.” This was so absurd. Seeing her act like this. And because of what you said. She grabbed her coffee cup and pulled you with her towards the living room. The living room was surprisingly empty. Meaning it would be really easy to pick out a movie. You sat down and Natasha wrapped her arm through yours pulling her legs close to your body and burying her head deep into your chest. “Ah-uh Natasha,” she looked up innocently at you. “ so what we gonna watch.” You tried to swallow the blush at her suddenly being all over you. “ idk I’m thinking a bond?” She pondered this for a moment” those movies are so unrealistic.” You laughed “ all action movies are unrealistic. Ok what about a Julia Roberts movie?” She raised her eyebrow at you. “ you are sorely mistaken if you think me a romcom girl. Let’s watch everybody loves Raymond it’s silly and we don’t have to think.” You groaned,” that show Is so offensive in many ways.” You picked up the remote. “ I didn’t think it would be this difficult to decide today. How about a good zoo show.” She pursed her lips and nodded. “ that sounds good to me.” The show came on and Natasha started to slowly rub your arm. You yelped in surprise from the skin to skin touch. She yanks her hand away suddenly worried she did something wrong. “ I’m sorry I just- sorry” she began to slide away but you held her tighter. “ it’s fine I just wasn’t expecting it.” She looks sceptically at you. “ really it’s fine. It kinda feels- nice. I’m just not used to that kind of stuff.” She pulls herself close to you again and you lay your head on hers taking in her sweet scent. You set your eyes on the tv and she begins to mess with your fingers. She bends them this and that way, gently careful not to over extend the muscles. Then she taps the knuckles with her pointer finger. You giggle slightly turn to look at her” whatcha doing sweetheart?” She seems embarrassed “ I don’t really know. You told me the other day that physical touch scares you but you really like it from someone you trust and I just- it’s kinda stupid.” You bit your lip and then kissed her forehead. “ that isn’t stupid but are you sure? I mean I don’t want you to do something just for me. I want you to enjoy snuggling as well.” It sounded really stupid once you said it but you just felt so bad. “ no it’s kinda childish but it entertains me. Plus I like making you happy.” She planted a firm kiss on your lips letting you know she was telling the truth. The two of you spent the rest of the day snuggling in the others arms. The animal shows passed. You talked about
anything and everything, admitting some things deep inside your thoughts and counselling one another. By the time night came and you made dinner for everyone in the compound you were blissful and soaring. The two of you turned in for the night fairly early returning to snuggling, this time you tracing circles along Natasha skin. And when morning came you watched Natasha sneak out of your room really early her arms full of your sweatshirts.

Dinos and Tigers and Donuts, Oh My!
Summary: Spencer wanted one thing this year: for your kids to plan his perfect Father’s Day Pairing: Spencer Reid x fem!Reader Includes: dad!Spencer, heavy mentions of Father’s Day, mentions and consumption of food Category: Fluff Word Count: 2.6k A/N: This isn’t my favorite, but it’s been sitting in my drafts for awhile all the same! Happy Sunday ♥️
 When Spencer was called away on cases your house seemed to lose a bit of its charm.  Mornings felt more tiring than ever before, the afternoon slumps dragged on for what seemed like years, and dinners, even with babbling five and seven-year-olds at your side, were a little too quiet.
This time around though, things were different.  You woke up to your five-year-old daughter sitting by your feet, her mind preoccupied by one of the search and find books Spencer had bought her the week prior.
The space next to you was empty, a piece of paper lying where your husband previously was, and you knew exactly what it was going to say before you even picked it up.
Good morning, love,
I got called on a case this morning, but it’s local and the team thinks we can wrap it up by tonight.  The kids both ate breakfast- and PSA that they were a little too excited I was going to be gone for the day.  I don’t know what they’re planning, but good luck.  I love you, and I’ll see you soon.
-Spencer
Unlike Spencer, you knew exactly what the kids were excited for, and it had everything to do with Father’s Day being tomorrow- you just hoped he would be home in time to celebrate like he predicted.
You folded the letter and placed it in your nightstand along with the others you’ve found gracing his pillow in years past when your bedroom door opened just the slightest amount.
In walked your seven-year-old son, comically exaggerating his tip toe motions as he stage whispered to his sister.
“Is Mommy still sleeping?” He shifted his gaze in your direction, all effort to keep quiet out the window when he saw your eyes meet his.
“Mom! Guess what?” you opened your mouth to respond, but your daughter beat you to the punch.
“Daddy left for a work trip this morning!  So, we can make our plan today while he isn’t here!”
There was no denying that your kids loved their daddy, that was for sure.
“That’s so great!” you matched their enthusiasm with ease, getting ready for the day while they kept brainstorming in the background.
Just last week, you had asked Spencer what he wanted to do for Father’s Day over dinner, and the children were as attentive as ever, eyes wide and lips pursed as they waited to hear the plans for the big day.
But, to their amusement, Spencer’s only plan was that they plan the entire day.  His reasoning was that they were the reason he was a dad so they should be the ones to decide what to do, but really you knew the truth was that he overheard their whispers about having the perfect plan for his day.
A plan you were finally going to be let in on, so it seemed.
The three of you made your way down to the kitchen where you settled down with your breakfast, eyebrows raised in enjoyment at your children.  They were sat across from you with a stash of markers and fresh index cards, and they had a few stacks of previously filled out index cards resting along the center of the table.
Ah- so that’s where they’re going with this.
It had become a bit of a family tradition to have a family scavenger hunt whenever you had a full weekend together.  You and Spencer were all too familiar with the concept of cherishing the time you have with your loved ones, and there were many a weekend where Spencer was called away, or you were busy with a million other plans ranging from extended family gatherings to birthday parties or weddings.
It was all the more reason to make the moments where it was just the four of you count even more- and thus, family scavenger hunts were born.
When they were toddlers, the scavenger hunts centered around finding certain shapes or colors, be it in the house or at the park.  Once every item was checked off you would have a family outing of their choice: the go to choice used to be another trip to the park (the one with the ‘fancier’ slides this time), but with the upgrade to slightly harder scavenger hunts centered on science and math they’ve upped their prize to ice cream.
What could you say? They were Spencer’s kids through and through.
“Wow!” you exclaimed, relishing in the beaming smiles on their faces, “do you guys want to make a scavenger hunt for daddy?”
Two enthusiastic faces nodded eagerly in your direction as your son grabbed one of the red markers.
“Yes! And we can have dino pancakes in the morning and get donuts after our scavenger hunt at the zoo- all of daddy’s favorite things!”
Dino pancakes were a Sunday morning staple in your home- you would use a cookie cutter to cut out a dinosaur shaped pancake, and the kids would eat those while you and Spencer would eat the ones with the dinosaur outline in them (and a few regular ones for good measure).  But donuts instead of ice cream?  That was new.
“That’s a great idea, I’m so proud of you guys for working together to plan this,” you praised, “but why donuts?”
Your daughter peered up from the index card she was drawing flowers on to answer your question, “because they’re daddy’s favorite and it’s daddy’s day!”
“And for our scavenger hunt we want all the animals to spell out ‘best dad ever’,” your son tacked on at the end, already beginning the task of writing numbers and circling them on the front of the card.
That was another newfound tradition for your family.  Now that the kids were learning to read, the two of you would try to have the first letter of each answer spell out a certain word or phrase.  Sometimes, it would be something like ‘I love you’ or ‘hello’, other times it would be the name of a special someone that would be joining you for ice cream afterwards (so far ‘Aunt Penny’ and ‘Uncle D’ were their favorite ones to come across).
You grinned once more, moving to grab your laptop and pulling the Smithsonian’s National Zoo site up to look at their list of animals.
“Alright, my loves- let’s do this”.
***
Three hours, eleven index cards, one snack break, and two very patient children later, your scavenger hunt was finished, index cards clipped and ready to go for the following morning.
Each index card had blank slots, the number of which corresponded to the name of the animal, on the front of the card with three fun facts written on the back.  In retrospect, Spencer wouldn’t even need the slots (or more than one fun fact, to be fair), but you knew he’d make a show of trying to think of each and every animal tomorrow afternoon.
Yet another reason you loved him.
The rest of the day passed by in a blur, all of your energy going into spending time with your kids. But once they went to bed, that energy was refocused into prepping for tomorrow to take your mind off the fact that it was nearing 10 PM and your husband wasn’t there.
You couldn’t bear to think of your kids disappointment if he didn’t make it home that night.
Outfits out and pancakes ready to be made, you made your way to the couch when the clock struck 11:30 PM, ready to settle in for a movie while you awaited his return but there was no need- as you walked into the room your husband made his way through the front door.  He looked as exhausted as ever, but the glimmer in his eyes proclaimed what you knew to be true.
He was happy to be home.
***
7 AM the next morning found you face to face with two wide eyed children gently shaking you awake, joy radiating from them as they saw that their father was fast asleep next to you.
With much persuasion in the form of puppy dog eyes, you made your way out of bed and into the kitchen to start the first task of the day: dino pancakes.
Your little helpers set the table and brought Spencer’s gifts from the coat closet and into the dining room in the meantime, and as you placed the last pancake on a plate two arms wrapped around you and pulled you back tightly.
“Good morning, darling,” his raspy morning voice brought a soft smile to your face, and you leaned your head back to kiss his lips in greeting.
“Happy Father’s Day, Spence,” you laid another kiss against his lips, pulling back as the patter of little feet made their way into the kitchen.
“Daddy!  Happy Father’s Day!”
“Daddy!  Come see your gifts and eat pancakes!”
Two little voices fought for the spotlight, and Spencer kneeled to the ground to wrap the both of them in a hug.  You laughed at the scene, watching as they squeezed him just as hard before grabbing onto his arm and leading him to the dining room table.
“C’mon, Dad,” your son pulled his chair out and pushed his gifts closer to his seat, “let’s eat and open gifts!”
“Gifts?  You guys know I don’t want anything,” his brows furrowed as he looked at you, but you shrugged your eyes and took a bite of your pancakes in response.
“You always say that,” you rightly claimed, “and we always buy you gifts anyway- it’s practically tradition”.
You had a point, there.
Breakfast passed by in a blur of conversation, dad jokes, and present unwrapping.  And just like that, Spencer was the owner of new books to pass his time on the jet, a 5k puzzle you were sure he’d solve in an hour flat, and a homemade Father’s Day shirt with your children’s handprints decorating a globe, the words ’Best Dad in the WORLD!!!’ gracing the blank space.
His eyes sparkled when he saw the shirt, and you swore you’ve never been happier to call that man your husband and the father of your children.
Granted, that thought passed your mind no less than fifteen times a day, but still.
Within the hour, the four of you were out the door and on the way to the zoo, Spencer’s Father’s Day shirt proudly on display.
You drove with a grin, the radio turned off in favor of listening to your children explain today’s scavenger hunt to Spencer.  They were practically giving a word for word verbatim of what the two of you usually told them pre-scavenger hunt, all the more proof that your kids were sponges.
An equally exciting yet terrifying thought.
You were at the zoo within half an hour, your hand intertwined with your son’s while your daughter latched onto her father, everyone eager to start the scavenger hunt.
“Alright, guys,” Spencer began, “what’s our first clue?”
“Mommy can read it!” your daughter piped up and you nodded, grabbing the small pile from her hands before reading the first card of the day.
“Okay, so!  This animal has six letters in its name, and your three fun facts are: whiskers help this animal detect objects around them which helps them navigate the dark, they’re the largest rodents in North America, and when they’re in danger they slap their tail on the surface of the water” you finished your explanation and watched as Spencer’s eyes lit up in recognition, but just as you predicted he dragged the process out instead of guessing right away.
“Hm, it sounds like we should go to the rodent exhibit first!” He proclaimed, and your kids nodded, walking in a row like little ducklings to the exhibit.
The four of you took your time looking at each of the animals, until you came face to face with the animal in question.  “Aha! I think the animal we’re looking for is a beaver,” his answer was met with cheers from both of your children, and you wrote the answer in the blank slots before continuing with the hunt.
At the end of the hour you added an electric eel, sloth bear, tiger, dama gazelle, alpaca, and degu to the list.  Eight animals down, four to go.
Which was fantastic, considering that your kids were starting to get antsy for donuts.
“Okay, guys!  Are we ready for our next animal?” You were walking hand in hand with Spencer, your kids skipping directly in front of you and eagerly shouting in affirmation at your question.
The four of you stepped to the side, and you grabbed hold of the fourth to last index card before reciting the hints.
“Alright so!  This animal is two words, seven letters in the first word and seven in the second.  They have whiskers that look like mustaches, they’re native to the southwest Amazon Basin, and they have claws on each of their toes but the big one”.
“Hmm.. I don’t know guys, what do you think?” Spencer turned to your children, smiling wide when your son giggled in response.
“We can’t tell you, Dad! It’s a secret”.
Spencer laughed, sighing in defeat as your daughter gestured for him to come closer.  He did as asked, leaning down until she able to reach his ear, “I think we should go to the monkey exhibit!”
Her not so quiet whisper brought a smile to both yours and Spencer’s faces, and a grimace to your son’s but to the monkeys you went, where you came face to face with an Emperor Tamarin.
From there you crossed a Von der Decken’s Hornbill and an Eld’s Deer off your list until you had one animal left.
“Alright, my love- last one! This animal is two words, three letters in the first one and five in the second.  They mainly eat bamboo, their fur acts like a camouflage when they climb in trees, and they live in temperate forests in the Himalayas,” you finished your spiel with a quick eyebrow raise towards your children, both of which were not so discreetly pointing at the red panda exhibit just a few feet away.
“Is it a red panda?” Spencer asked, giving both your kids high fives when they jumped up and down in excitement.
“Yay Daddy, you got it! And guess what all of the first letters spell? Best dad ever!” your daughter jumped into his arms and Spencer chuckled, spinning her around and laying a gentle kiss on her head.
“Is that so?” he asked, “you three are too nice to me”.
Truthfully, you didn’t think it was possible to be too nice to Spencer.
“How about our last surprise for Daddy now, my loves?” your question was met with enthusiasm from your little family, and you were back in your car and on your way to Spencer’s favorite bakery in ten minutes flat.
As you pulled up to the bakery, two eager children and one extremely happy father made plans as to what donuts they were going to eat.
It was decided that Spencer would get a chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles, your son would get a glazed donut, and your daughter would get jelly.
And you? You had every intention to get your favorite too, but above all you were just happy that another amazing Father’s Day was in the books for Spencer.
The seventh of many.

Mini Valentine | Stepdad!Tom fic
Tumblr media
Summary: Your valentine’s plans with your fiancé get slightly set back when you get called in to work, leaving Tom to spend the day with your daughter.
Word count - 4,017
Warnings - One brief mention of throwing up, i think that’s it?
Unfortunately for you and Tom, you’d been called into work on the morning of the 14th, based on ‘emergency’. It was all very last minute and caused a lot of stress for your fiancé, even if he tried to promise you that it wasn’t a big deal and he could sort something, but anyone would be stressed while finding out their plans for the day had been spontaneously ruined that same morning without warning.
You originally had plans to go on a family trip to the zoo during the day, wanting to show Scarlett all the adorable animals that she’s never had the pleasure of seeing in person. Then you were meant to be heading to a romantic dinner with Tom at the same fancy restaurant he took you to, to propose. All while his mum watched Scarlett for you so you both got some well deserved time together.
“I’ll just shift the reservation, it’s okay,” he promised you, kissing your shoulder as you tied back your hair to keep it out of your face.
“You’re an angel,” you whispered, making sure to press a lasting kiss to his lips. You could tell he was exhausted, and you didn’t blame him, it was barely even four in the morning and you were already up and ready to leave the house.
You couldn’t leave without making a hundred percent sure he was okay with you heading in, moving over to where he’d tucked himself under the covers again, trying to shield his bare upper half from the cold morning air.
He’d planned on getting some more sleep before your munchkin woke up and decided she needed her stepdad to feed her instantly, something she did often.
“I still feel bad, ‘m sorry.” He shook his head, cupping your cheek with his large hand.
“You have nothing to worry about,” he chuckled, finding some amusement in the idea of you feeling so guilty about something you couldn’t control, especially when the issue was so easily resolved.
You rested your head on his bare chest for a few seconds, just until you really had to leave so you wouldn’t be late.
“I’ll take Scarlett out somewhere, still got to win her over.” You rolled your eyes at his words, pecking his lips one more time before standing up.
“You know she loves you already,” you mumbled, referring to all the moments the two had shared over the few years you and Tom had been together.
“No, she loves my cooking.”
You scrunched up your nose, feigning disgust. “I don’t know why.” Tom scoffed, his heart fluttering when you let out that silly giggle that he adored.
“Y/N?” he called. You hummed. “Happy valentine’s day.”
You placed one more kiss on his lips, taking your time to study his face as you pulled away. “Happy valentine’s day Tom.” You waved goodbye without letting him say anything else, not wanting anymore distractions that could risk making you late, closing your bedroom door behind you.
“Mummy?” You turned your head at the sound of your angel’s sleepy voice, seeing her standing in her bedroom door. She looked like the cutest little thing, hair all messed up from the way she’d slept, in her Disney pyjamas, rubbing her tired eyes with her first while her teddy bear was squeezed as close as possible to her chest.
“What’s wrong bub? You should be asleep.” She waddled over to you, wrapping her arms tightly around your legs. Your fingers threaded in her hair, trying to tame the flyaway strands, tucking them back into her scrunchie loosely.
“I heard you awake,” she mumbled, almost falling asleep in the position she was in. You pouted, leaning down to kiss her head.
“Mummy has to go to work,” you said, seeing the frown forming on her face. “I’ll be back later, but that means we can’t go to the zoo.”
If she had the energy she probably would’ve thrown a tantrum right then and there, but taking into account the utter exhaustion consuming her tiny body, meant she didn’t have the effort to argue. All she could do was flash you her typical pout and puppy dog eyes, but even those weren’t enough to win you over this time.
“Why don’t you go get in with Tom for a bit, get some cuddles?” You were always trying to encourage her to do more with Tom, praying that she would get along with him well enough to accept him. She did at least like his cooking, so that was a start.
She hummed, placing a sloppy toddler kiss on your cheek before shuffling down the hall to your room. You chuckled to yourself, grabbing your keys, jacket and any other necessity, leaving your daughter and fiancé to spend the day together.
Tom couldn’t fall asleep until he knew you were on your way, his subconscious telling him that he couldn’t let you be late by getting distracted with something in the house.
That meant that Tom felt the tiny body that was crawling onto the large bed, climbing under the covers on your empty side.
“Hi,” she whispered, laying her head on your pillow. The man laughed silently, noting how much she was like you with her mannerisms. He asked if she was okay, checking she wasn’t in here because of a nightmare.
“Mummy said I could come get cuddles.” The girl often liked Tom more when she didn’t have the energy to be mean, so at times like this she was often very affectionate towards him.
“Of course, c’mere.” She shuffled closer to him, curling her body into his chest while her head rested on his shoulder. Tom pressed a light kiss to her temple, soothingly rubbing her back until her breathing evened out and he was sure she was asleep.
He wasn’t too far behind her, letting his own wave of exhaustion crash over him until he was back into the deep slumber he’d been in before it was interrupted by your phone ringing.
»»——⍟——««
Tom and Scarlett ended up getting out of bed around 10. He’d sent the girl to the bathroom to do her business and brush her teeth while he made her breakfast, going over some ideas of what they could do for the day in his head.
“How do you feel about going to the aquarium today?” he asked, slipping a pancake onto her plate, letting her decorate it however she wanted. Her eyes widened and she rapidly nodded her head. Tom chuckled, preparing some breakfast for himself, taking a seat next to the girl at the kitchen island.
“Can we see the penguins?” she asked, filling the silence with the innocent question. She let out a squeal when Tom nodded, thanking him with the same amount of energy.
She finished her breakfast quickly, bouncing in her seat as she waited for Tom to tell her she could leave. “Go get dressed, we’ll go in a little while.” She didn’t have to be told twice, jumping down from the seat to run to her room.
Tom left to get dressed a few minutes after her, changing into some jeans, a plain white hoodie and a coat on top.
He waited by the front door for more than a few minutes, confused about what was taking the little girl so long.
Tom didn’t want to impose, he knew she was capable of getting ready herself, but he also didn’t know if something else had possibly gone wrong.
He headed to her room, knocking on the door before pushing it open. “Hey bug, what’s taking so long, you okay?” He could see the tears on her cheeks as she sat in front of the mirror, a hairbrush and a hair tie to her right. “What are the tears for?” He asked softly, bending down beside her to wipe them away.
“I can’t do my hair.” She sniffled, looking up at the man with those big eyes that looked exactly like yours. He was such a sucker for those eyes. “Do you want me to try?”
She nodded, handing him the stuff he needed. He brushed through the strands of her hair as carefully as he could, making sure to avoid brushing any tangles harshly, and apologising if he caught any anyway.
“Ponytail?” he asked. She nodded in confirmation. Tom wasn’t exactly a pro when it came to hair, he’d grown up with 3 brothers, so he didn’t really have anything to do with long hair until he spent those nights when you were drunk. He would always carelessly throw your hair into a bun or ponytail to keep it out of your face when you threw up, receiving a mumbled thank you from yourself.
You’d helped him learn the basics a while ago, teaching him how to do a simple braid and how to do a quick ponytail, but that was all he knew. He was never sure if his versions of the hairstyles would be up to Scarlett’s standards.
He pulled all the strands in, making sure there were no loose ones before wrapping the hair tie around them all, keeping them in place at the back of her head.
“Is that okay?” he asked. She nodded, standing up from her spot. Tom raked his eyes over her outfit, making sure socks were matching and everything was on right before guiding her to the entrance of the house.
She took a seat next to him on the stairs, swinging her legs while she waited for him to pass her, her shoes. She easily slipped them onto her feet, right then left, just like you always did when you were here.
“You think you can tie them yourself?” he asked. She nodded her head, grabbing a hold of the two pieces of white string on her left shoe.
“I’m a big girl,” she argued. Tom raised his hands in defense, muttering an okay.
Her big girl mindset didn’t last for long when she realised she in fact didn’t know how to tie her shoes. Tom tried to hide his smile, knowing this was going to happen.
“Tom?” She asked. He hummed, looking up from where he’d been putting on his shoes. She pointed down to the little converse that were on her feet, the laces messy and undone. “Can you do them, please?”
He tried his best to show her how to do it, but the girl got easily distracted, rambling on about all the different fishies she was going to see. He couldn’t be annoyed, finding it completely adorable how she babbled on.
“Alright, up?” He didn’t want to pick her up if she’d rather walk, not wanting to risk the girl throwing a tantrum so early on in the day. However, to Tom’s surprise, she agreed. She stood on her tiptoes, reaching her hands up to the sky, a signal that she wanted to be lifted up.
Tom scooped her up into his arms, resting her on his hip while he collected everything he needed to head out for the day.
Scarlett busied herself in playing with the chain around Tom’s neck, finding it intriguing for some unexplained reason.
He carried her out to his car, having to follow her instructions on how to get her into the car seat, it seemed to be a struggle for Tom everytime.
Once he was sure she was safely in her seat, Tom climbed into the driver’s seat, sending you a quick text to tell you they were heading out.
At one point during the short drive, Tom glanced through his mirror to see Scarlett quietly singing along to the radio, which he turned up so she could hear better, kicking her legs in her carseat happily.
The aquarium wasn’t too far away, and before Tom knew it they were inside and ready to look around. Scarlett complained about how it felt like it’d taken forever, clutching Tom’s hand with her tiny one as she dragged him towards what she thought looked most interesting.
“Look at that one!” she gasped, pointing to the vibrant coloured fish. Tom nodded, grinning down at the pure happiness on the little girl's face. The sudden vibration in his pocket made Tom jump. He pulled out his phone to see your contact lighting up his screen. He took a few steps back from her, so she was still in his eyeline but her loud squeals weren’t heard in his ear everytime she spotted a pretty fish.
“Hello?”
A smile creeped onto your face just at the sound of his voice, it was all you needed to hear to convince you you could make it till the end of your shift.
“Hi.”
“How are things?” You let out a sigh, glancing around the ward with a bored look.
“It’s okay, I guess, nothing much happened after this morning,” you explained. “How’s it going with Scarlett?” Tom smiled to himself, watching as the girl stared in awe at all the vibrantly coloured fish swimming in the tank.
“I didn’t take her to the zoo because I know you wanted to go, so I brought her to the aquarium you’ve been to before.” Your heart soared. The fact that Tom both listened to your stories about your daughter and respected the things you wanted to do with her were just more things to add to your ‘why Tom is the perfect man’ list.
“Are you having fun?” There was an underlying hint of sadness in your voice that Tom quickly picked up on.
“Yeah, but it’d be even more fun if you were here.” You could hear him quietly talking to Scarlett in the background, something about spotting a certain coloured fish. The girl responded with a squeal of excitement when she found out, gushing about how pretty it looked.
“She sounds happy,” you commented, pulling Tom’s attention away from the girl again.
“I think she is, this is the warmest she’s been with me.”
You bit your lip to try and hold back your smile. You’d both been waiting for the moment she’d decide she was ready to accept Tom as her dad, and it’s been a long journey to get to that point.
“Well, I should go, but i’m glad you’re having fun.”
Scarlett ran over to Tom, clutching his legs and asking who was on the phone. When he responded with a simple ‘mummy’ she decided she needed to talk to you right that second.
She ended up occupying you on the phone for much longer than you’d intended, finding it impossible to get away from the girl while she was ranting about all the different animals and fish they’d seen.
“I don’t want to keep you then, tell Tom to have fun too okay?” She mumbled a quiet okay. Tom was watching her with an amused grin, finding it adorable how large his phone looked pressed against her head. You said your I love you’s before hanging up to continue wallowing in your own self pity.

The picture Tom sent you around 1 was the thing that kept you going, but was simultaneously the thing that almost made you cry in the middle of the hospital.
The two were sitting in the restaurant at the aquarium, the girl cuddling some kind of fluffy penguin teddy that you were sure Tom insisted he buy for her, while grinning at the camera.
He followed it up with a little message afterwards that basically confirmed your suspicions.
‘She loved the penguins and I couldn’t resist, this is Oswald x’
You giggled at the name, an obvious reference to the time Harrison came over and let her watch Batman. You ended up setting the picture as your lock screen, clicking your lock button to see your baby’s face light up your phone screen.
Your eyes drifted up to the clock on your phone, seeing you had at least another 2 hours left of work.
You wish you could say those last couple hours flew by, but it felt like they were never going to end. You spent most of the time being handed more and more tasks to do that you were scared you wouldn’t finish before the time you could go home.
Thankfully you did, wanting to practically scream with relief once you climbed into your car. You felt like you had more energy now that at any point during your day, which was very confusing considering the long almost 10 hour shift you had.
You heard the excited yells of your daughter the second you walked through the door of your home. She’d quite clearly seen your car pull up outside and just couldn’t wait to greet you.
“There she is.” You were almost tackled into a hug by the four year old, the girl beaming at you. Tom helped you slip your jacket off once Scarlett decided to let go of you.
“So, how was it?” She was more than happy to tell you again every single thing her and Tom did, going as far as describing almost each and every one of the fishies in detail.
Tom joined in at random parts with bits of information that seemed to slip past her excited mind. He watched you both with a smile, silently laughing at you when you realised you’d probably be here for days if you didn’t stop her.
“That sounds like so much fun, but you need to go and get ready for when Nikki comes.”
She still hadn’t taken up calling Tom’s mother Grandma yet, but you reassured her that it’d come with time, exactly the same as your reassurances to Tom.
She ran away to her room to do as you said, leaving you and Tom a moment alone before you got ready for your date.
Tom’s hands made a beeline for your waist once she was out of sight, bringing you in close to him until you were pressed up against his chest.
“Hello handsome.” A faint blush creeped onto Tom’s cheeks, the man trying to hide it by burying his face in your neck. He placed soft kisses all over the skin there, earning him a pleased sigh from you.
Your hands trailed up the expanse of his muscly back, eventually residing in his mess of hair. Gentle tugs on the short curls were what brought his attention away from your neck.
He smiled at you, resting his forehead on yours. Your noses occasionally clashed from the close proximity, but neither of you cared enough to pull away. He was the one to close the gap between you, slotting your lips together in a slow kiss. It wasn’t hungry or needy in any way, more so screaming that you’d missed each other.
“We should get ready,” you mumbled onto his lips, unwilling to pull away just yet.
He hummed. “We really should.”
Neither of you made an attempt to move. This time it was you who couldn’t stand not kissing him, placing such a soft peck on his lips that he was sure it almost didn’t happen.
“I love you.” You grinned, rubbing your thumb over his unruly eyebrow, eyes flickered over the tiny features of his face. He took the time to study your eyes while you did so, noticing the little flecks of different colours that didn’t match your overall eye colour.
You finally looked into his eyes, those golden, honey orbs that just made you melt inside everytime they stared at you with just so much adoration.
“I love you too.”
He let you go and get ready after that, pouting adorably as he watched you strut your way to your bedroom. You picked out your outfit before hand, pulling the hanger with the gorgeous silver dress out of your wardrobe, laying it on the bed.
You knew Tom would probably sneak a look at it, but seeing it on a hanger wouldn’t even compare to seeing it on your body.
You took a lot longer getting ready than you expected to, purely due to the long, hot shower you took that felt like a necessity after your work day, and also the fact you hadn’t truly gotten yourself dolled up for something in a while, something that you greatly missed.
Tom was there as soon as you were finished to make you feel even better about yourself, throwing compliments at you left and right that left you a flustered mess of butterflies.
At some point Scarlett had creeped into your room, looking at your pretty dress in awe.
“Doesn’t your mummy look pretty?” She nodded her head rapidly, complimenting you profusely. Your fiancé knew you were getting flustered, trying to cover your face to hide from your own embarrassment. He placed a quick kiss on your head, his hand slipping down to the small of your back to guide you to the front door.
You gave Scarlett a tight hug, telling her to behave, while Tom placed a kiss on her head.
“Thank you again,” you gushed, making sure to give Tom’s mum an extra tight hug before you left. She always told you that she loved taking care of Scarlett, even if she wasn’t her biological granddaughter.
Tom led you out of the house with a lovesick grin plastered on his face, making you rather suspicious about what he was up to.
“What are you so smiley about?” you asked. He simply shrugged, placing a kiss on your knuckles as he told you absolutely nothing.
“Just happy to finally have to myself.”
»»——⍟——««
The small body of the girl barreled towards you as soon as you stepped through the front door. She surprisingly almost knocked your balance, forcing a giggle out of your slightly tipsy self.
You were able to scoop her up, holding her on your hip.
“I know, we’re home,” you whispered, cradling her to your chest. She tucked her head into your neck, trying to not let sleep consume her so she had more time to spend with her favourite person.
While you were snuggling your baby, Tom was once again thanking his mother, telling her a little about the lovely night you had at the restaurant.
Nikki could see in his eyes as he watched you, just how much adoration he felt for both of you. She wasn’t sure she’d ever seen her son look like that.
“Missed you,” she mumbled, muffled by the way her mouth was resting on you. You responded with a simple kiss, noting how her eyes were so desperately trying to flutter shut.
You couldn’t blame her, you had accidentally woken her up at a ridiculous time in the morning and she was still only a toddler who often took multiple naps throughout the day.
“Let’s get you to bed.” She whined in your ear out of protest, shaking her head in your neck. Her head raised, looking around the room until her eyes landed on Tom.
She twisted in your arms so you were only holding her by her stomach. Scarlett made grabby hands at Tom, a sleepy pout on her lips when he didn’t instantly come over.
“Can daddy put me to bed?” she asked, so innocently.
Tom froze, his heart growing in size as he stared at her. You and Nikki shared a look, one that told the other you were happy you could experience this moment.
He didn’t exactly know what to do, becoming a bit of a stuttering mess. He’d been waiting at least over a year since you’d gotten engaged for her to say that one word, a sort of confirmation that she was happy he was there.
You could see the tears lining his waterline as his mind replayed the 6 words she just uttered. It seemed to take him a few seconds to come back down to earth, nodding his head. You helped transfer Scarlett from your arms to his much stronger ones, the male making it look like lifting a feather. Scarlett shifted slightly, sighing as she got comfortable in his hold.
“Yeah, of course, daddy can put you to bed.”

“Hello chat! How are we doing today!?” Tommy yelled into his mic, talking to chat as he started his stream.
I sat on the side watching him talk to the chat, I couldn’t see chat but I could tell they were questioning why the lights were off, since Tommy kept smiling and trying not to giggle.
“Why are the lights off?” Tommy asked squinting at chat, I then rolled into the camera’s view.
“Well, typically cryptids like dark places where they can’t be seen” I said rolling in and leaning so I could see chat.
Chat then went 1 million miles per second they were all spamming cryptid and being amazed that I was real. I started to laugh really hard because some of the chats messages.
“Well, chat this is the Dream SMP discord cryptid; also known as- Can I say your name?” Tommy asked looking over at me. I smiled,
“Uh, I prefer Bas or bastard here on the innerwebs, but if you want sure you can say my name. Just don’t give like my home address or whatever” I said looking at chat smiling.
“what? Why would I- never mind. Okay chat this is Bastard.” Tommy said smiling looking over chats messages “Hey, can we turn on the lights?”
“UGGGHHHH, I guess” I said getting up and walking over to the light switch. I turned it on and saw Tommy walk over to see and stand next to me. I gave him a confused facial expression.
“Chat wants to see the height difference, you goblin” He said smiling looking down at me. I quickly stood my tippy toes, easy with the boots
“Okay, fit check, as you can see I have the superiors fashion sense chat. Tommy here has none, write that down” I said walking back to my chair.
“I do not! I have a great fashion sense!” Tommy said looking at me offended I started to cackle like a hyena
“Yeah, to be fair though, you are a teenager who live that streamer life style so I understand” I said after catching my breathe from laughing, Tommy rolled his eyes.
“Yeah yeah” He said crossing his arms, I looked over at chat
‘Gamer Bf and Alt s/o goals’
‘Are you a boy or a girl? I really can’t tell’
“Ew, I will punt you straight into the sun you heathens” I said with a face
“HEY! Don’t threaten my chat!” Tommy yelled at me
“They were shipping us. Ew, he is like my little brother. This isn’t sweet home Alabama people” I replied
“Okay fair enough, also chat they use they/them pronouns, respect that please” Tommy said looking at the monitor
“Thank you, so what are we gonna do?” I asked leaning back on my chair and grabbing the container of brownies.
“We could go on the SMP and mess with people” Tommy said grabbing a brownie and popping it into his mouth.
“Cool, give me the grand tour” I said popping a brownie into my mouth
Tommy then booted up Minecraft and got onto the SMP server, he made sure to show on stream
“Okay, lets show the cryptid how to be cool” Tommy said moving his character around
I looked over at the camera unamused, I looked at the stream and saw my face. I started to get uncomfortable and looked down.
“I am being perceived and I don’t think I like it...” I said picking at my nails
“You okay?” Tommy said looking over at me, I smiled and shook my head yes
“It’s okay, I’m just use to being blurry not in 4k resolution” I said chuckling
“Oh hey Dream is on” Tommy said looking on the list,
“He’s the sever owner right?” I asked looking on scream
“yes” Tommy said
“So, he’s like a goverment?” I asked smirking
“what are you thinkin?” Tommy asked looking over at me
I smiled before shrugging and setting down the container
“Well, as an anarchist, I don’t really like the government. So, maybe I could attack him while screaming ‘ACAB’ or ‘Down with the government bitches’ idk. Wait- will that get you in trouble. My bad” I said cutting myself off worried I said something that will get Tommy in trouble. He started laughing, more wheezing
“Omg, yes! Let’s do it!!” He yelled moving towards Dream and others of the server. I smiled,
‘Cryptid says ACAB?’
‘Anarchist? Technoblade might like this!’
Some of the chat said amazed I said something like that,
“Yes, chat ACAB all the way, demolish the government! Consume the rich people!!” I yelled excitedly
“Okay, how do you wanna do this?” Tommy asked
“Okay, I’ll attack while you get us into VC and you scream then I yell ‘ACAB bitches’“ I said scooting him over so I can take control of his character
“Okay good” Tommy said getting into the VC “Here we go!”
“By the way, I’m bad at Minecraft” I yelled before we joined and attacked Dream.
“AHHHHH” Tommy yelled
“ACAB BITCHES” I yelled after him attacking Dream
“Huh? Tommy! What the Fuck?” Dream yelled before he pulled out his own sword and started swinging
“Oh fuck!!” I yelled trying to get away
“Move!!” Tommy yelled before he died
“Uhhh, my bad” I said smiling at him, Tommy rolled his eyes
“Tommy what the hell man? Why did you attack me?” Dream asked
We both looked at each other before I smirked and leaned into the mic
“Tommy is no longer with us” I said deepening my voice
“What!? Tommy did you get hacked? I’ll open your stream” Sapnap said with Dream and George agreeing.
Tommy muted himself, turned off the music, then got up and moved the camera zooming in my face and then ran and turned off the lights. My face was only illuminated my the screen light, Tommy then hid, I was confused before he looked at me and winked. I turned and stared into the camera with a dead look.
“AHHHHHH!? WHAT THE FUCK!???” Was all we heard from the others, as we both started laughing
“The cryptid is real!?” George yelled
“Y’all have Discord Admin energy bitches” I said before we quit the VC and started wheezing. I started coughing and grabbed out my drink from my bag. I opened my Monster and chugged. Tommy kept wheezing so hard,
“Omg, did you guys hear them!? Omg that was so funny!” Tommy yelled, I chuckled
‘Dream: What the fuck!?’
‘Sapnap: GOT EM!’
“Dream is actually our Discord admin” Tommy said between laughing
“Ah, cool. He doesn’t have it actually, but now knowing. HMMMM” I said looking at the camera smirking
“Yeah, and Gogy is his discord kitten” Tommy said putting everything back to normal
“An I oop- Wait, that’s georgenotfound right?” I asked
Tommy leaned back into his chair giggling “yup, he’s the bestest man ever” he said smiling
“I thought that was Philza Minecraft?” I asked having a confused face
“Wait! Phil is on! Do you wanna meet the biggest man? Philza Minecraft” Tommy asked
“I thought you were the biggest man?” I asked smirking
“I am, well- we share the title anyways” Tommy said as he joined the VC
“Tommy, we just had your stream open!” we were met with,
Tommy started wheezing again, I smiled ‘Brothers’ I thought
“You’re going to get banned” A voice said; ‘Technoblade’ I thought remembering his voice from some of Tommy’s streams.
“Chaotic little shit” Philza said laughing
“The cryptid is real! Oh my god I have to tell Quackity, he thought you were using photoshop or whatever!” Wilbur yelled laughing
“God has let me live another day, so, I’m gonna make it everyone's problem” I said snickering, while I felt my face heat up. ‘God I feel like a zoo animal’ I thought smiling awkwardly
I don’t know any of Tommy’s friends really, and they don’t know much about me. Only that I’m Tommy’s scary friend and what they’ve seen from pictures and probably dumb stories he told them.
Tommy took control of the game, making sure the stream was entertained. He answered with giggles.
“Did you really bite a kid in school for picking on Tommy?”
‘FUCK’ I thought, making a surprised face
“Well you see there! Uhh-” I tried to say
“They also threatened a dude with a Selenite knife once!” Tommy chimed in
“Yeah, that’s true, but both fuckers deserved it okay!” I said as I felt my face get hotter from embarrassment
“God your both equally feral” Phil said laughing, Wilbur giggled and Techno stayed mostly silent besides a small laugh. Tommy explained he was ‘awkward around new people’. ‘Social anxiety. MOOD’ I thought smiling.
“I personally prefer ‘unhinged’ but pop off I guess” I said shrugging
“Feral cryptid! Feral Cryptid” Wilbur chanted, soon the chat also spammed it
“So, this is THE Philza Minecraft” Tommy said as if he didn’t just say I bit a person and threatened another with a knife. “An honor right?”
“Hello, pleasure to meet you” I said smiling awkwardly
Phil laughed, Tommy looked offended “This is Philza Minecraft! Creator of Minecraft! Show some respect!” Tommy yelled
“Didn’t that other dude make the game?” I asked confused
“Yeah, but he was a wrongen. So, we joke that Philza made it instead” Wilbur explained
“Oh, yeah he was a fucking bigot right?” I asked, everyone went quiet “Should I have not said that? My ba-”
“no, no” Wilbur said giggling “No, that was perfect. I wouldn’t have said it but you hit the nail on the head”
“Ah okay” I said with a small smile
“They are very radical” Tommy said smiling, I laughed awkwardly
“We heard” Techno said when amusement
I ended up taking off my jacket, revealing all my tattoos on my arms
‘WOAH!’
‘Are those real?’
“Yes, chat they are real, some are done professionally, others are stick and pokes. Don’t do it unless you know what your doing” I said raising my arms to show off my art
“Yeah, they piercing their own nose though!” Tommy yelled
“Oh, my god, that is dangerous.” Phil said worried
“Yeah, most I did myself or my sister did. She wanted to be a tattoo artist at one point so I just let her do whatever on me. Don’t worry they were done safely, mostly” I said laughing
“what does the skull say?” Techno piped up, I smiled, showing the camera my tattoo on my right fore arm. It was a leopard skull with grapes running out of the left eye socket dripping liquid. Under was a chalice, the piece was surrounded by a diamond.
“It’s a piece dedicated to the god Dionysus. One of the first I ever got done professionally. And yes chat it hurt like a bitch” I said showing the tattoo
“Hello!” two voices popped into the call
“TUBBO!” Tommy yelled, I snapped my head towards the screen
“Tubbo? Isn’t that the guy you were calling when you broke your wrist?” I asked, Tommy wheezed
“Oh is that (y/n)?” Tubbo asked, I smiled
“Hey bubbs, how are you?” I asked
“Wait you both know each other?” Ranboo piped in
“Yes, you see some time ago, we were at the skate park. I was skate boarding and Tommy was on the phone with Tubbo. Tommy then wanted to do a trick. So, I take the phone and Tommy then fails miserly and breaks his fucking wrist! We were on call the whole time to and at the hospital” I said laughing
“Ah, sounds about right” Ranboo said
“What does that mean!?” Tommy yelled, Tubbo was laughing
“I’m good (y/n), thank you for reminding me of that” Tubbo said between laughs
“wait your name is (y/n)?” Wilbur pipes in, Tommy looked scared for a second
“Yeah, that is my name. I go by Bas or Bastard on social media though” I said shrugging.
“Bastard?” Phil asked confused
“Can I promote myself?” I asked looking over at Tommy, he nodded smiling
“Yeah, I go by Cryptid_Bastard. I post art or whatever” I said relaxed
“That fits you” Tubbo said, I smiled
“Thanks bubbs” I said smiling
After a few hours we ended the stream and said goodbye to everyone. Me and Tommy leaned back in our chairs and sighed.
“Well, that was fun. I like your friends” I said smiling,
“Yeah, you can come on another stream another time if you want” Tommy said smiling, I nodded my head
“Yeah, well I need a break. I’m gonna go on a walk if you don’t mind. You wanna come?” I asked as I stood up and stretched
“Nah, I’m gonna chat with Tubbo for a bit” He said, I nodded before grabbing my bag and leaving the room. I walked out and said hi to his parents and informed them I was going on a walk. I walked out the door and towards the street. After getting to the sidewalk I grabbed out a cigarette and my lighter. I lit up, and took a deep draw. I ended walking towards the park while smoking,
*VRR VRR* I heard as my phone started vibrating in my bag. I dug around a pulled it out, it was notifications from twitter. I unlocked my phone and opened twitter, I had a whole wave of people following me and commenting on my art. I smiled before getting ready to tweet. I opened the camera and angled it to show me, I had my cigarette in my other hand making sure not to show it. I smiled taking the picture before typing and posting.

I keep thinking of alexei and Melina interacting with Romanogers babies!!!! 😭😭😭 and yelena as the fun aunt that makes fun of their parents, and I definitely see alexei joining 😭😭 I think Melina would be so gentle with them, teaching them science, showing them animals and I just 😭😭😭
hi anon -YES OMGGG -but was that a prompt because it sure sounded like a prompt!
anyways, here ya go!
Title: turns out i got two
Relationship: Steve Rogers/Natasha Romanoff
Summary:
My whole life I didn't think I have any family. Turns out I got two.
Adventures with both sides of Natasha's family!
ft. romanogers babies, cool Aunt Yelena, Grandpa Alexei and Grandma Melina, and more!
Also on AO3!
“Shhh, don’t wake up your mama!”
Natasha crinkled her nose at the noise around her, still partly muted from the nap she was just waking up from. She wasn’t sure what time it was - just that she closed her eyes in the middle of an old movie and she Steve were watching, knowing damn well it was just background noise while they cuddled in silence. One thing she knew for sure was that she was alone on the couch now but a blanket was draped over her. Giggles erupted next to her ear and she fought against a smile tugging at her lips.
“I think mama’s awake anyway,” a voice answered, an obviously failed attempt at a whisper.
“I think she’s still sleeping,” Natasha joked, peeking an eye open and seeing James right in front of her. He was grinning ear to ear, but there were specks of mud on his face. “James? Did you not listen to Nana and played with the pigs again ?” Fully awake now, Natasha sat up and took James’ face in her hands, leaning in to kiss his forehead. He giggled, throwing his arms around Natasha’s neck for a hug. “Honey,” Natasha pulled away fractionally, “you smell stinky.”
James nervously laughed and tried to explain. “I might have fallen in the pen.” Natasha narrowed her eyes, seeing right through her son’s lie. She didn’t have to be a spy to know that he’s lying - and, judging by the sheepish smile on his face, James knew he can’t fool his mother either.
“Whatever happened to watching him?” Natasha asked Alexei, her voice stern but teasing. No matter how many rules for the kids she tried to establish, it seems that they go out the window once the grandparents are in charge. She knows it should annoy her, yet she can’t help but find it cute. Melina and Alexei are only lenient on the little things anyway, respecting major rules that Steve and Natasha has laid out for their kids.
Looking up from the newspaper he was reading at the kitchen counter, Alexei’s eyes widened. “What do you want me to do! He said he fell! Right, James?” Alexei argued, throwing his hands up and winking - obviously wanting James to make his mom believe that he didn’t deliberately play with his grandma’s experiment - er, pet - pigs. James giggled and nodded, loving his little game with his grandfather. Natasha’s convinced the two of them spending so much time together will drive her to an early grave.
“Yeah, I don’t think even your dad could be convinced of that, bud. Go, take a shower please.” He nodded and ran up the stairs to the bathroom. Yawning and stretching her arms, Natasha turned to Alexei. “What time did you guys get back? And where’s everyone else?” She eyed the clock and saw that it was nearing 7pm. Melina and Alexei took James and Sarah to the Cleveland Zoo earlier in the day, insisting that the kids stop by there before they go back to New York the next day.
Melina and Alexei’s farm in the suburbs of Cleveland became a frequent vacation spot for Steve, Natasha, and the kids. Ever since the Red Room was taken down, Melina and Alexei decided to go back to Ohio and settle down - if that’s what they want to call it. The two have been working with Yelena in tracking down more Widows and other victims of the Red Room - as well as running covert ops in taking down child-trafficking rings - from their farm. Yelena is more of a nomad - being more active in the field by traveling all over the world, although she usually stops by the farm or Natasha and Steve’s house in New York.
“We only have been here for an hour. Steve’s helping Melina with some stuff in the back. Sarah does not want to leave her grandmother’s side,” Alexei smiled fondly. Sarah has thoroughly stolen her grandfather’s heart and it shows.
Natasha nodded, checking her phone for messages. “Is Yelena stopping by? The kids haven’t seen her in a while.”
“Eh, you know her. She might, she might not.” Natasha looked up at that, narrowing her eyes at him. Alexei put his hands up again. “I don’t know. She said she will try. I did not want to put the kids’ hopes up so I did not tell them.”
Natasha smirked. “That sounds like her.” She stood up and headed to the back door to see if she could spot Sarah and Steve. The little girl is sitting on the back of a pony, with Melina standing next to her with a hand perched on her back - although Natasha has a rising suspicion that the pony is a little bit too behaved for a regular farm animal. And Steve is - oh - now breaking logs in half. For what, Natasha isn’t sure, but all she knows is that he makes a damn good sight to see.
“I used to look like that, you know. Maybe even bigger.” Alexei, who Natasha didn’t notice have moved next to her, suddenly piped up, seemingly following her line of sight. “Your mom - you know, those years we lived here - she liked it, I could tell.” Natasha wrinkled her nose, frowning as she looked up at Alexei. “What, what? I’m just saying. He’s not the only super soldier in the house. I’m just saying. I put on some weight but I still look good, no? Melina still thinks so.”
“Okay, calm down. I don’t really need all the gory details.” Natasha shook her head, looking back at Steve. He’s almost through his pile of whole logs, his shirt now almost completely drenched in sweat.
“But that’s my point - there are still gory details,” Alexei winked at Natasha’s overly-dramatic shudder. “You know. If you two need more weekends alone, Melina and I don’t mind having the kids over. You just have to tell us.”
Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, Natasha turned to meet Alexei’s eyes. “Ha ha, I get it. As weird as what you’re trying to say - thank you. I appreciate it, really.” He grinned, his right arm reaching around Natasha to envelop her in a one-arm hug. It took a while for Natasha to let Alexei start hugging her again, and once she did, he never let a moment to do so pass.
Natasha caught Sarah’s eyes when the latter looked up, waving with her free hand. She heard Sarah squeal and say something to Melina, who nodded at the little girl. Sarah brought her arms out and was lifted off the pony by her grandmother before making a mad dash to the back door where Natasha was standing. Alexei slid the door open just in time to hear the “Mommy!!!” screech coming from Sarah, with said little girl running into her mom’s open arms.
“Hi honey! How was your time at the zoo today?” Natasha asked while hugging Sarah tightly. The little girl hugged her back with all her might before letting go, excited to answer her mom’s question.
“I had so much fun! Grandma taught me about animals!”
“Go on, tell your mama which one is your favorite,” Alexei prodded, reaching down to help straighten Sarah’s hair.
“I liked the monkeys! They remind me of Rocky,” the girl replied, making Natasha sputter. Ah, yes. Sarah and her ever-fascination with Rocket Raccoon will never not amuse any of the other Avengers.
“Make sure to tell him that, honey,” Steve suddenly piped up, having walked back with Melina. He stood next to Natasha and planted to swift kiss to her lips.
Natasha wrinkled her nose, flicking his arm. “You stink, go shower after your son,” she waved him off, sending him laughing up to their room to get changed.
“And do you remember what animal group monkeys are a part of?” Melina asked, kneeling on one knee next to Sarah.
Sarah paused for a minute, scrunching up her brows in the same way as Steve often would when thinking - something Natasha would often tease him about - before answering. “Primates!”
This made Melina beam and kiss her forehead before standing up. “Very good, baby! You’re the smartest little girl I know!” she praised, making Sarah giggle. Turning to Natasha and Alexei, she inclined her head to the kitchen. “Come on, dinner should be ready soon.”
Once Steve and James got back and helped set the table, they all gathered around the table to eat. Melina made Borscht and Stroganoff - both of which are favorites of James and Sarah. They were laughing about how Sarah tried to ride one of the ponies at the zoo thinking it would be as tame as Melina’s pony, only to have it get spooked and run away when the doorbell rang. The adults all exchanged a look as Alexei stood up to answer the door.
“Who’s that grandma?” James asked, glancing up before taking a bite of his food.
“Your favorite aunt, it’s who!” A voice bellowed, followed by a tapping of feet.
“Auntie Yelena!” Both children chorused, rushing out of their seats to greet their aunt before she even reached the kitchen. “Fanny!” they squealed once the dog found them and started circling their feet.
Yelena walked into the kitchen with Sarah and James latched on both of her sides, Fanny following right on their heels. “Hello, everybody. Thanks for not waiting for me before eating,” she deadpanned.
“We didn’t even know you were coming.” Melina answered, scooping more soup into Steve’s bowl.
Yelena’s mouth dropped. “Natasha knew! I texted her. This is so unfair,” she huffed and sat down on the available seat next to Steve once the kids let go of her.
“What? I wanted it to be a surprise!” Natasha argued, smirking at her sister. “Isn’t that what you would’ve wanted?” she asked before eating a spoonful of Stroganoff. Yelena pouted, taking a piece of bread and biting into it.
Conversation flowed nicely throughout dinner, and it wasn’t until everyone moved into the living room while eating dessert did Yelena start braiding Sarah’s hair. “Are you ever going to color your hair, honey?” She asked, her fingers swiftly yet delicately weaving through the little girl’s hair.
“Oh please, Yelena, she’s six. Don’t give her any ideas,” Natasha waved her off, passing the bowl of ice cream to Steve.
Melina laughed, getting everyone’s attention. “It’s funny you say that, you know. Considering you would put temporary dyes in Yelena’s hair when you were younger. Not to mention your blue hair,” she nudged Alexei’s side, making him snort. “Remember?”
Steve looked at Natasha, his mouth dropping fractionally. “You had blue hair?” That got James’ attention too, as he turned to them from the TV.
Natasha narrowed her eyes at Melina before looking at Steve. “You’ve seen me with how many different hair colors already?”
“Yes, but that’s different because those are for missions, so it doesn’t mean the same. You had honest-to-god blue hair?” he tried asking again.
“Didn’t you bring the photo album with you, mama?” Yelena asked, looking up at Melina.
Melina nodded and stood up from the couch, plucking the album from one of her bookshelves. “Here, see?” She brought it over to where Steve and Natasha were sitting, setting it on the coffee table in front of them.
The photo album looked worn but the pictures were still clear, surprisingly. It contained the tale of their undercover family in Ohio, yet it all felt very real. Steve smiled softly at a young Natasha - he’s seen some of this pictures before, but the photobooth shots of a young her and Yelena have been new additions to the album. He figured they might have had it restored because it looked crisp and blown up.
“Wow, she wasn’t kidding. You did have blue hair,” he remarked, making Natasha glare at him. “What? It looks good! You looked so… punk.”
“She does have a flair for the dramatic,” Yelena agreed, tying Sarah’s braid in place. “There, all done! Show your mama.”
Sarah skipped to Natasha’s side, showing off her new braid and getting praises from her parents. She looked down to where everyone was looking at, noting the pictures for the first time. “Is that you, Aunt Yelena?” she pointed to a picture of a little girl holding a box in front of a tree.
Yelena knelt down next to the table to look at which photo she was pointing at and stifled a laugh. The ends of her hair in that picture have tints of pink in them, probably from one of Natasha’s so-called “experiments” back then - where she would usually test out a color on Yelena’s hair too before committing all of it on hers. She nodded at Sarah, “Yes, honey, that’s me. That’s your mom next to me.” she pointed at where a young Natasha was smiling brightly at the camera.
“Your hair looked like candy!”
Looking smug, Yelena leaned back to look at her sister in the eye, who was already shaking her head. “Well, honey, it’s a good thing your mom knows a lot about hair colors.”
Steve snorted at the inside joke between them just as Sarah started rattling off a list of colors she wants to try. It sounds like she might just be listing every color she can recall, but Yelena knows Natasha has at least found her new muse to experiment hair colors with.

Chapter 17: Blood is Thicker than Water
Words: 4.4K
Four years had passed and Rosie was the only one to stick around. Everything had changed. You and Tom were currently on your trip around the world. Traveling everywhere from Cuba to Greece. Taking in sights of the world.
Embarking on journey covering 3 continents and 10 countries so far. You had already visited the Taj Mahal in India, the Amalfi Coast for some sun, and Iceland just for the blue lagoon hot springs. You and Tom were having the time of your lives, it being the perfect distraction from everything back home.
Rosie was running the mob along with her new right hand and consigliere, Linus. Rosie had been taking on the mantle as the new leader of the Holland mob. Picking up where Parker left off. Trying to do him justice. Tom had helped her learn the ropes but she always had that fiery personality desired for a mob persona.
After four years, Rosie learned to embrace her grief instead of shoving it away, she began to visit Parker’s grave more and more. Tried to every week, but life got in the way. She would bring a new set of flowers to freshen up the old ones.
She knew today would be especially hard, every year it was impossible. Rosie could barely get through the day. Today was her 20th birthday, marking 4 years of celebrating without Parker.
Rosie and Henry’s relationship had grown into one full of misery. Trapped in a loveless relationship, but he was still her best friend. With just one look he would know what she was thinking.
Over the past couple years, Henry has been so obsessed with keeping her safe that it was driving her mad. Rosie understood that Henry didn’t want to lose her like he lost Parker, but Rosie ran a mob and danger followed her everywhere. They started drifting apart when everything happened with the Holland family, creating unfixable cracks in their foundation.
Lately, Rosie had been feeling someone watching her every move. Following her whenever she would be downtown. Feeling a presence she hasn’t felt in a while. Constantly shivering in fear, feeling as though she was observed. From then on, every move she made was calculated and thought out.
When Rosie first took on the mantle, she cleaned house. Eliminating those whose loyalty would always lie with Tom. Trying to affirm the fact that she was so much more than just Tom’s daughter. She had let William go and few others because she brought in Linus.
Even after starting her new regime, things have been a bit off, lately. She hasn’t been sleeping through the night. She’d jolt out of sleep, drenched in a cold sweat. Henry would be startled awake as well by her movement as move to comfort her.
“Roo, you okay?” Henry asked groggily, yawning a bit. Rosie gasping to catch her breath. Her dreams were supposed to be an escape but now they were doing more harm than good. “I don’t know. I keep having these dreams about Parker. Like he was trying to tell me something,” Rosie said, gathering her bearings. It wasn’t everyday she was visited by her deceased twin brother. “From beyond the grave?…Rosie, he’s gone,” Henry pondered. “I know, I just can’t shake this feeling. That he is… he’s.”
“What? Still alive? Honey, we buried him. You cried over him. If he was still alive don’t you think we would’ve shown his face by now. Wilson and Carter are gone, they have been for awhile now,” Henry explained, hoping it would bring her some solace. Henry wasn’t blind to the change in her demeanor, she did open up to him about being followed everywhere she went. “I guess you’re right. But my dreams feel so real,” Rosie whispered, lying back down. Ready to drift off into a deep sleep. One not tainted by the memory of Parker. “Go, back to sleep baby.” Henry said, he knew they would be getting up in a few hours anyway. Tomorrow was a very big day. Henry knew he and Rosie had been drifting but he was all set to give her the best birthday ever.
Henry had bought tickets for you and Tom to fly in for her birthday and stay for awhile. This time of year was hard for all of you but it wasn’t fair to Rosie. The day that is supposed to be about her has always been shared but now no one dared acknowledge it. It was just a reminder of what had been lost.
“Good morning, beautiful. Happy birthday,” Henry whispered, peppering her face in kisses as the morning sun shone through the curtains.
“Thank you,” Rosie sighed. Every year was a challenge. It got a little better every year but she knew she would never fully accept his absence.
“What do you have planned today?” Henry inquired, he was always one for big gestures. He absolutely hated that she no longer enjoyed her birthday.
As a kid she loved the idea of turning a year older, getting to grow up and getting loads of presents of course. You always made the priority of throwing the most perfect themed parties for Rosie and Parker. One year they had a pirate themed pool party with a treasure hunt and another a circus/carnival theme with fair games and a petting zoo. You loved going all out for their birthday. Just spoiling them in general.
Rosie and Parker, also Tom, can’t forget about him, made life worth living. You and Tom did everything for your kids, never wanting them to feel an ounce of sadness.
But the times had changed, you were no longer the mother to a son. It was just Rosie and you thanked God everyday that she was still there but your heart will forever be scarred.
Scars take forever to heal, sometimes never. There will never be a day when you don’t miss Parker or he doesn’t cross your mind. Everything you did from the moment he died was for him, in one way or another. You knew the grief would never stop but you hoped Rosie would one day be able to move on with life.
“You know…” Rosie murmured. “Oh yeah, say hi for me,” Henry nodded along remembering Rosie was going to spend the day next to her better half, Parker.
Rosie proceeded to get dressed and ready for the day. She wore a tight grey dress showing off the perfect curves of her body. And a pair of black high heels to complete her power woman ensemble. “Henry, you aren’t throwing me a party right? I really don’t want one,” Rosie inquired. Rosie would prefer to have all birthdays pass and wash away but she knew Henry wouldn’t allow that. At the most she would have a nice dinner with him and watch a movie.
“You’ll just wait to find out,” Henry grinned cheekily. In reality he was throwing her surprise party to help her find the joy in her birthday again.
“Henry seriously, not this year,” Rosie announced. “It’s never any year. You haven’t celebrated in 3 years. You need to get over this.”
“Get over what? The death of my twin brother?” Rosie asked, astounded at Henry’s previous statement. The nerve he had, wow.
“Roo, I’m sorry,” Henry tried to apologize but Rosie left in a huff.
“Talk later, Linus is waiting for me,” Rosie yelled, already walking out of the room. “Linus, you ready to go?” Rosie said, as she found him drinking coffee in her kitchen. He sat at the bar, legs dangling off the chair as she came down. “Yes, Roo,” he said, a little out of breath from taking the awe of her beauty.
“Please don’t call me that around Henry… What’s on the agenda?” Rosie asked Linus as she poured herself her own cup of coffee.
“Well, Shaw owes you 3 million and the deadline you gave him expired,” Linus explained, he knew Rosie hated having things held over her head. She would prefer to get them out of the way as soon as possible.
“Well then, let’s go pay him a visit. I could use a drink. Afterwards, can you drop me off at the cemetery?” “Of course, Roo,” Linus said. Rosie huffed in response, rolling her eyes at the name. Linus loved to get a rise out of Rosie. Her remarks to his comments were just a sign of their playful banter.Rosie’s relationship with Linus was complicated. They were partners, most of the time.
Rosie had gone really dark over the past years. There were days where she refused to get out of bed. Sitting in bed wasting the entire day away. Henry would come home from work and try his best to comfort her but after Parker he was just as lost as her. They lived in the same house but not truly together. Not as lovers, maybe as roommates.
All Rosie could feel were thoughts of hopelessness, desolation, and misery. Never being able to find that light at the end of the tunnel. She didn’t deserve to find it, thinking she was the one who pushed you and Tom away. Blaming herself for Parker. All these feelings and Henry wasn’t there, too busy with his own life.
One day, Rosie had gotten real low. Couldn’t find a way out so she went to the gun room grabbed the closest pistol, a bottle of scotch, a glass and sat in Tom’s office. She rested on Tom’s chair trying to find the will to end it all. To point the pistol and pull the trigger.
It would be so easy, the flick of a finger. No more pain. She tried not to think about everything she was giving up. Never seeing you or Tom again, or Henry. Never loving him again, if they ever did manage to find their way back to each others arms. Never experiencing the things that made life worth living.
All her thoughts were halted as Linus barged in. He stopped dead in his tracks as he saw the broken girl hold a gun unto her temple, its safety clicked off. The room was cold as an icy chill ran down his spine.
“Rosie, what are you doing!?!” Linus thundered, trying to stop her before she pulled the trigger. “I don’t know. I think I’m trying to end it all,” Rosie whispered as tears streamed down her face. Deep down she didn’t want to pull the trigger, she wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
“End what all? Your life?” Linus asked, trying to talk her off the metaphorical ledge. Something had to happen that pushed her to this point. Rosie had to be drowning and calling out for help but no one came. “No, it was never about killing myself. It was just about ending the pain and suffering,” she cried.
“Rosie, listen to me. There is so much more you have to live for. This will pass. Think about everything you are giving up.” Linus tried to appeal to the people she loved, you, Tom, and Henry. Losing Rosie would no longer make you a mother. How could Rosie take that away from you?
“I already have and it hasn’t, for 2 years. How do you know it will get any better?” Rosie begged for a true answer. She had been slumping around, letting the days pass her by as she stood silent, screaming non-vocally for help. Trapped in an asylum of misery. “I don’t. But I’ll be there to help you,” Linus exclaimed, giving her the truthful response she wanted. Rosie just needed to hear that she wasn’t alone in this world anymore. “No, you won’t. You’ll just leave like everyone else. Henry doesn’t love me anymore. My parents left. I’m all alone.” “Roo, you aren’t alone. Just hand me the gun and we can work this out. I’m not going anywhere. I’ll always be here,” Linus pleaded. That was the first time he had used that nickname. The name had been reserved for only Henry, Parker and you. In that moment Rosie saw someone she missed so dearly in Linus, Parker. Parker was the only person who was 100% there for her. He was there to talk her off the ledge. He was there at her weakest and in a split second he was standing in front of her.
Rosie gave in, removing the gun from her temple, clicking the safety one and handing it over. She slowly stood up, coming over to Linus and collapsed in his arms. Rosie whispered a small “I missed you” as he held the broken girl. He was the only one who could pull her out. Not Henry, god she wished it was Henry. Linus understood her pain and didn’t try to fix everything.
Henry was the opposite. Constantly worrying about Rosie and trying to find a solution for everything. Things from the slightest backache to feelings of hopelessness. Rosie didn’t need fixing she just needed to be heard and Linus made sure she was. At Harmon’s, the bar was quite empty. Just Shaw and a few of his men. Shaw has borrowed money from Rosie to clear of a few charges. The Holland name had some pull in the legal community. Dating back to Dom’s days but Tom mostly laid down roots.
Linus entered first, firing two shots to take out Shaw’s capos. “Jesus Christ,” yelled Shaw as his protection thudded against the floor.
Rosie followed Linus in, making her presence known, “Shaw, you know I’m not a fan of people not staying true to their word. Do you have my money?”
“Rosie, doll. I paid you in full already. If this just your sad attempt to stir something up we can work this out another time. Shoo, let me finish my drink,” Shaw snickered. “Shaw, I know your games. You have 3 minutes to transfer my money right now. One for each million. I have Linus checking for a deposit of 3 million, make this simple and do it,” Rosie stated with an unchanging expression. “I need more time, that’s not enough. It’s all in separate accounts,” Shaw asserted, his voice starting to waver as he stared down the barrel of her pistol. “Well then, I’d hurry if I were you. Here’s your phone. Just wire the money… Starting now,” Rosie exclaimed as Linus devoted his stare to watch. Glancing at the seconds tick away.
“Fine, I’m going,” Shaw screamed, about to crack under the pressure.
“2 minutes left,” Linus chimed in. “Okay, I’m just inputing the dollar amount, it’s a lot of zeros.” Shaw tried to explain. He was about to lose his life because he was slow.
“50 secs.”
“I’m going, I’m going.”
“10, 9, 8, 7, 6—“
“I’m done,” Shaw said, letting out the breath he was holding.
“That was fast but not fast enough,” Rosie whispered raising her gun square to the back of his head. Her finger slipped to the trigger and fired a shot.
BANG
“Wow, I didn’t think you actually kill him,” Linus said, impressed by her ruthlessness.
“He was getting on my nerves, besides he will never borrow money from me again if he is dead,” Rosie chuckled. “You know I found that really hot,” Linus whispered in her ear. “You always do.” Rosie grinned at his advances, trying to pull her close to his chest. “Hey, this can’t keep happening.”
“Oh, come on. You say that every time. I can’t hide my feelings for you anymore.”
“Well, you are going to have to. I was clear about what this was. So I’m going to ask you this once more time, what do you want?” “I want you.” “Well you can have me in the bathroom in 2 minutes.” “Roo, you’re too good to me,” Linus smirked, following her as she glided to the restroom.
Everything lasted about 30 mins. They were in and out in a flash. The bar now smelled of sex and a dead bodies. Linus was the first to finish, coming out of the bathroom looking disheveled as hell. Sporting the same juts had a quickie look. Linus went to pull the car around after fixing his hair in the mirror.
Linus would never be Henry and that was a good thing, Linus was different. By no circumstances was Rosie in love with Linus or will ever be in love with him, he was merely a distraction. Rosie knew her relationship with him was wrong but he made her feel alive once more.
Rosie emerged from bathroom breathing heavy, almost gasping for air, with sweat glistening on her chest. She straightened out her dress as combed down her hair. Stepping out of the doorway, the smell of a fresh rotting body hit her.
Rosie immediately turned around and lunged for the toilet. She had been in the business for 3 years and never before had her body reacted this way. She hurled into the toilet for a good ten minutes. Eventually bringing her head out of the toilet bowl to wipe off her mouth. The air was now coupled with sex, dead bodies and vomit. She was clueless to what forced her to keep her head in a toilet bowl.
After her nausea spell passed her, she had Linus drop her off near the cemetery. “Oh, you can drop me off here. I need something from the pharmacy anyways,”Rosie informed Linus. She was planning on picking up something for her stomach, it was very unlikely for her to throw up suddenly.
“Ok, Roo. Do you need a ride home?” Linus questioned.
“No, Jared is supposed to pick me up. Thank you,” Rosie exclaimed, getting out of the car. “Alright. Happy birthday by the way. Can I have a kiss goodbye?” “Thank you and no. I’ll see you later.”
“Yeah for the party,” Linus called out slowly driving away. “Wait! What did you say?” Rosie remarked but he was already long gone.
Rosie was mentally kicking herself, she didn’t have the willpower to deal with a party tonight. She specifically told Henry, not to throw one but since when did he listen to her.
Their road to ultimately heartbreak was a two way street. Both of them had done something to warrant the loveless relationship. Rosie admitted to herself, that she eventually did stop trying. She stopped constantly asking if Henry wanted to go out for dinner and what time he would be home. Rosie prefers to blame Henry but in reality, she was then one who let go first.
Rosie stopped showing him love, too distraught by his every move because it was a constant reminder her brother wasn’t there anymore. Henry would try to work him into every little conversation, remembering Parker in everything. It grew too much for Rosie. Rosie had never been one for confronting her feelings, preferring to shove them down but how could she, when Henry would never shut up about Parker.
Parker was the main reason a wedge had been driven between them, but she wouldn’t dream of blaming her dead brother. Who couldn’t even defend himself. Rosie needed a reset after Parker but Henry was stuck living in the past.
Rosie was ready to start her life with Henry after graduation but he couldn’t let go. After a while, Rosie became just like him. Stuck drifting into a void of pure sadness. Rosie couldn’t let go, along with Henry. Their lives went in different directions, Rosie was blossoming into a ruthless leader who would only act soft around Parker, vowing to visit his grave everyday. And Henry got left behind at some point, not seeing how he fit in her life anymore.
In the pharmacy she scanned the aisles for some sort of quick remedy. If Henry was throwing her a surprise party, one she specifically asked not for. Rosie didn’t have days to recuperate, maybe a few hours.
She found the largest bottle of Pepto-Bismol and stopped by the card aisle. Carefully grasping a birthday card for her favorite person. One that was funny yet endearing. Parker was addicted to all the corned jokes she would crack. She made her way to the register. In front of her stood a little old woman, she wore a purple floral dress and her white stained hair was pulled into a clip.
“Just this for you sweetie? Oh, who’s birthday is it?” Asked the little lady, referring to the birthday card Rosie grabbed for Parker.
“My brother’s and um, could I also get this,” Rosie responded as her eyes glanced below her. Skimming over the candy bars, gum packets and eventually landing on a pregnancy test. Come to think of it, Rosie was late about a week and a half.
“Of course, honey. Would you like to use the restroom?” Queried the lady. Rosie nodded in response. She finished paying and quickly made her way to the restroom. Following the directions on the box carefully, she needed to be a hundred percent sure, before she told anyone.
Right around the corner was the cemetery. She glided through iron gates, walking across the cobble stone path before she came upon the place she loved most in the world. The place where she would hold nothing back, spilling everything to him.
Life of a mob boss was dangerous but things started to seem eerie for Rosie. She would feel weird presences or someone watching her at eerie times. The same feeling plagued her at the cemetery, today. She knelt down to the headstone, engraved in it read “Here Lies Parker Jackson Holland, Taken from us too soon, a son, a brother, and a friend.”
“Hey, P. You probably get tired of me visiting you. Everyday I’m here and sometimes I think I do it for my benefit more than yours. I hope that wherever you are, you are happy and most likely you are with Charlotte. I’m happy for you, Parker. No matter how much I wish you were here with me, I know that you are happy that you escaped this life. Happy 20th birthday.” Rosie whispered, fixing the flowers that began to wilt from yesterday.
“I have some really amazing news to share with you, but it will have to wait till next time. You can’t be the first person I tell, I’m sorry. He deserves to know before you…. Oh my god, you’ll never believe what happened at work…”
This is the one thing that brought Rosie solace. She persistently blames herself for that fateful night 3 years ago. Rosie would spend hours kneeling next to his headstone. She would tell him about her life and read off the postcards you and Tom sent from your travels. Talking to him as if he was still there.
Rosie glanced at her watch, it was half past five and she hadn’t even called Jared yet to pick her up. “I’m sorry P, I gotta go. Henry, god love him but, that bastard is throwing me a birthday party. I guess I should at least make an appearance. I’ll see you tomorrow, I love you.” Rosie said, walking towards the parking lot.
She stood under the gate for ten minutes waiting for Jared to arrive and escort her home. The weather completely shifted as the sun set around her. The once blue sky changed to one painted with vibrant yellows and pinks. The sky was a sight not to be missed but she could do without the freezing winds that accompanied.
A chill ran down her spine as she waited in the darkness. Feeling a sensation that only warranted panic. Rosie felt someone watching her once again. Maybe from a far or up close, but she definitely wasn’t alone. It was silly that she let feelings like those get to her. She was a mob boss for god sakes, scaring even the most menacing of men into submission.
Rosie eyes started darting everywhere a noise left. In the corner of her eye she caught a figure drenched in shadows approaching. She tried to scramble for her gun, but soon realized she left it in Linus’s car.
The stranger kept making advances and managed to get to her. He wrapped his arms around her and pressed a cloth to her mouth. Causing her to be consumed in darkness as her body grew limp.
Back at the manor, Henry was setting everything up perfectly. His mission was to make Rosie love her birthday once more. While Henry was working hard at hanging the birthday banner and decorating every corner with balloons, Linus was no help at all. Lounging on the couch and finishing a beer.
“So are you going to pick up Rosie and get off your ass?” Henry barked, pulling the coffee out from under Linus, causing him to spill his beer.
“Seriously, dude. What’s your problem?” Linus snapped.
“My problem is my girlfriend isn’t here. Aren’t you supposed to pick her up?” “No, Jared is.” “Linus, Jared is here. He has been for a few hours. Where is she?” Henry questioned, starting to worry. “I don’t know. Last, I left her at the cemetery.” “Henry! It’s so good to see you,” you cheered as Tom and you walked in. Hugging Henry after not seeing him for awhile. It still pained you to visit, traveling was the perfect distraction.
“Hope you have been taking care of yourself, son. Where’s Rosie?” Tom questioned. “Yeah, I’ve been good. At the moment, I don’t know where she is. She’s missing,” Henry concluded. You and Tom stood completely still as you processed the news. It wasn’t everyday that your daughter would disappear into thin air, but her job did keep her life in danger.Rosie missing was uncommon. It had happened once or twice in the past but that was 3 years ago. So much had changed, for the better. Yet, you were once again in the same place, in the house you left because everything was too familiar. Rosie missing was all too familiar.
Rosie came to. Opening her eyes to a place she chose to forget. For all she knew it was an exact replica. Warehouses riddled all of London’s ports, she could be anywhere.
“Text your driver and tell him Henry picked you up for a special birthday dinner,” Rosie’s kidnapper barked, thrusting a phone in front of her.
“Really? You kidnapped me? After 3 years of being leader of London’s most feared mob, it’s like been there done that. Do you want money or something? I have a party to get to.” Rosie quipped, annoyed with they man’s pursuits.
“Oh, I know. I believe happy birthday is granted. 20 years is a milestone.”
“Whatever, I don’t really like my birthday anyway.”
“Wanna talk about it?” The stranger pestered on. Rosie had learned lesson from the last time she was restrained to chair, rope around her wrists and ankles, ceasing blood flow. This time it was zip ties, a little basic for any mobster she has had a run with.
“No. I want you to let me go. Seriously, what do you want? I don’t think you know who I am. Or who my father is,” Rosie asserted.
“A moment alone together is all I ask and I know exactly who you are and who your dad is. Correction, who our dad is.”
“Parker.”
A/n: Finally the end. Alright, I'm going to bed. There is no set schedule for the sequel series, I'm just going to post a chapter when I finish writing it. Let me know if you like to be tagged in the sequel chapters.

12.30 pm
If it wasn’t for your phone ringing you wouldn’t even have woken up. You turned off the phone, not wanting to deal with anybody’s bullshit because today was not it. Or mostly like, this week was not it.
You cried yourself to sleep last night, your head full of thoughts about your life and future, all your fears and insecurities eating up your mind. Usually you would put these thoughts aside, act optimistic with a smile on your face but sometimes it’s hard to do so, especially when the night comes and all the “demons” in your head start waking up.
You’ve tried distracting yourself. Watching movies, drawing, reading, cleaning up the house, but nothing. You felt sad all the time, even though your life was going good. You felt so alone, worthless, like everyone hates you. Not even your friends would find some time to talk to you. You couldn’t fully open yourself to any of them because you didn’t want to be an annoying crybaby and make them run away. You didn’t even notice you were crying again. Jesus, the hell was wrong with you, you thought.
The phone rang again and you groaned in annoyance, but that feeling washed off quickly when you saw the name on the screen.
“Dabi💙”
Your heart started pumping out of your chest. Despite of him being a villain, you had developed a little crush for Dabi. Of course, he never knew. Or did he? Anywyay. But you remained as “friends”, even though Dabi’s flirtings would be thrown in the air and you, like those shy middle school girls, would giggle and blush. He would usually come and visit you but today you didn’t want him to. You didn’t want him to get affected by your negative energy today, nor did you want him to see how you looked. Your hair was a mess, your eyes puffy and tired from crying too much. No thank you
“Hey Dabi” you said with a weak voice, almost shaking but you coughed a bit and tried to sound more stable. “What’s up?”
“Hey doll. Up? The sky” you could hear him smirk like the jerk he is and you just rolled your eyes at this lame joke and giggled. His voice was low but soothing. “Just wanted to say I’m on my way to you”
Oh shit.
Find an excuse.
“Oh I didn’t know. I... I’m sorry though because, maybe I’ll go to sleep. I’m feeling a bit sick, maybe it’s the flu. So... yeah, we won’t be doing fun stuff at all” You felt bad for lying but you didn’t want him to see you like this. Not today at least. You felt ugly today, inside and out.
“I’m sorry princess. You can sleep next to me alright? You like how warm I am so that will make you feel better” he said with full confidence. Damn, he is so cute.
“Yeah but, I... don’t want you to catch the flu either” you bit your lips, hating yourself for lying to him. But he was stubborn, it’s not like he was going to listen. Before you could say anything , you heard a knock at your door.
“Oh sorry Dabi, I gotta go. Someone’s at the door”
“Yeah yeah okay. Talk later” he chuckled. You shut your phone and opened the door, only to be faced with Dabi himself. You jumped in surprise and hid behind the door, feeling embarrassed as he laughed.
“Dabi jeez! I didn’t expect you to be here so soon” you said, trying to look anywhere but him, hiding yourself behind the door.
“Well I did say I’m on my way didn’t I? And stop hiding, I won’t bite” he got inside. “At least not until you want me to” he winked. You gave him a weak smile, his flirtings usually would give you a whole zoo in your stomach but during your hard days, it wasn’t that easy. Dabi noticed the strange aura surrounding you today.
“Hey, are you okay?” He came closer. You looked down, not trying to face him. He grabbed your face to turn it to him. “Look at me... what is it?”
“N-nothing. It’s just... one of these shitty days that’s all. You shouldn’t have come though..” you said, your voice almost shaking. He raised his eyebrow, meaning to give him a reason why. “I knew you came here to stay and have fun together as always and I’m so sorry. I just don’t want to affect you with my shitty mood, and especially with my.... shitty face toda- “ You couldn’t finish your sentence as he put his index finger on your lips to shush you.
“If anything here is shitty, is whatever you are saying right now.” He said, his finger touching your soft bottom lip doing small circles. “If anyone is to worry about shitty mood affecting other people, it should be me” he said, his finger tracing your jawline. “And if anyone is to worry about shitty face scaring other people, again that should be me”
You shook your head, placing your hands on his warm chest and finally looked him in the eyes. “N-no, don’t say that. You never affect me in a bad way, you’re the only person who I enjoy being with. And you face is beautiful”
He softly smiled, leaning closer to you and whispering in your ear. “Well, you said the exact response I was about to give you a minute ago”. You blushed as he sat down in the couch, patting the seat next to him. “Come here”. You sat next to him as his arm wrapped around your waist, pulling you closer to his warmth, as his chin rested on your shoulder. You both remained like that for a moment, no words shared as you stared blankly at the TV, and then he spoke.
“You know...despite having shitty days I’ll still be here for you right dolly?” he softly whispered. “I know how it feels like to be... sad and alone, feeling worthless and disgusting” he grabbed your hand and softly kissed it. “Nobody was there for me back then, but at least I can be here for you now”
You just froze, a million emotions filling your chest as you listened to him.
“I know it’s hard but I can assure you babygirl, you are the most worthy person I’ve ever met in my life” he cupped your blushing face with his warm hands. “And the hottest one too”
Your face went tomato as you tried to look down, a chuckle escaping from Dabi as he buried his head on your neck, hands now in your waist.
“You are so beautiful princess, if anyone says otherwise I’ll turn them to crisp, you know it”. You remembered the day your shitty neighbor went missing just the day after you fought. You complained at him for his loud music every night. He had told you to shut the fuck up and called you an ugly bitch. Strangely, the next day he went missing. You knew it was Dabi’s doing even though he would play dumb.
Your thoughts were interrupted as you noticed his turquoise eyes staring at yours , a smug smile plastered on his face.
“What?!” You yelped, feeling embarrassed.
“Nothing. Just processing on my mind all the blessings I have in my life.” He started grabbing your face, examining it you as you giggled. “Oh wait, it seems to be only you” he smiled.
“You’re an idiot” you laughed as you finally wrapped your arms around his neck.
“And you are gorgeous”
“Stop!”
“What? Too much for telling the truth huh” he sighed as he held you close to him. You started feeling good now, after all these days of feeling down. You felt...happy. Happy being with him. You could forget all your worries whenever you were with Dabi. He had that kind of effect on you, whether he did it on purpose or not. It was hard to crack him open when you first met, but now you got to see the side of him he never showed to anyone, his soft charming self. He would kill you if you told anyone about it though. It ruins his villain reputation, he would say.
You both spent the rest of the day close to each other, cuddling and him giving you soft kisses all over, praising you so much you felt like some goddess. Your mood already got better. Then you started watching some dumb movies, where you would laugh at Dabi for mocking the characters in it, with tears in your eyes. Also the dumbass almost burned your apartment while trying to boil an egg. You both shrugged it off by laughing like idiots. Then you played a game, trying to find which pro hero is on your mind. You would draw or imitate the pro hero and the other would find it. It was fun though cause you got to see Dabi slandering the pros. He drew a deformed chicken with a man face, trying to take out an egg from its butthole. You were rolling in the floor from laughing when you found out that is the number 2 hero Hawks.
As the night came in, you were resting on him, his hands running through your dark hair as you would hear his soft heartbeats.
“Thank you” you whispered.
“For what?”
“For staying with me today. You made me feel better”
He smiled as he kissed your head. “Of course, dollface. If you are sad again and you don’t call me to come over, I’ll be upset... anyway it’s not like I’ll be leaving you alone too much from now on. You’re stuck with me”
You smiled as you kissed his neck softly. “You are so charming and soft when you want to be, almost as soft as a baby when-“
“I’ll turn you bald”
“Okayy, jeez!” You laughed at his blushing face, and rested your head on his chest. Your eyes felt heavy and it didn’t take much for you to fall asleep. He kissed your head again and rubbed your back.
“Goodnight precious”

You're Not Alone Ch. 2
Ao3 Where it began Ch.1 Ch.3 Ch.4
Some Tim, Marinette and Damien interactions. With a bit of Alfred being all-knowing in the background.
Chapter 2

Tikki woke them up around 6am in order to deal with a noon akuma over in Paris.

“I'm awake, you’re awake.” Marinette declared sleepily as she tossed something at his head.

Tim blinked tiredly at the fox necklace in his hand before he remembered what it was an put it on.

He watched Marinette merge Tikki and Kaalki and had just called on his own transformation when Alfred showed up with two small shots of espresso. Everything was moving a little like molasses through his brain and he may have proclaimed Alfred a God. Maybe it was Marinette that called him a God. Both? He would figure it out later after the caffeine took effect.

They arrived to a city covered in rats. So unless it was some new incompetent akuma, Hawkmoth had gotten Mr. Ramier again.

He watched Ladybug use her lucky charm to set up a life size mouse trap game that he hid with illusions. Then Chat and her lured Mr. Rat over. Ten minutes later they were stepping through a portal back into his bedroom.

There was a small plate on his dresser with treats for the kwami and he smiled to see them happily snacking. He stretched and turned to Marinette to see if she wanted a proper cup of coffee but she was asleep against the wall. He went over and shook her shoulder. “Come on Bug, Alfred will come get us for breakfast soon.”

“Don wanna.” She mumbled as she latched onto him instead of the wall.

He smiled and pried himself free. “Sleep then, but don’t blame me when the Gremlin storms in demanding to know where you are.”

He watched her eyes open wide, “He would.” She stumbled quickly towards the hall “I'll see you at breakfast. I am going to shower quickly.”

Tim followed since his quest for coffee would lead him past her room anyway. “Do you even remember where your room is?”

She paused briefly, “I thought I did but now I am doubting.”

He spotted a splash of colour where her room should be. “I have a feeling that the Gremlin decided to make it easier for you.”

She looked back at him, “What is that supposed to mean?”

Tim gestured towards her door. Last night it had been just a normal door, not the canvas it was now.

He watched her face as she took in the bright cherry blossoms that had bloomed in paint. Her hand reached out only to hover over them. “This is amazing. They look so real.”

“The Gremlin may be a brat, but I will never deny his talent.”

“Will Bruce be upset?” her hand traced the air above the flowers.

He shrugged, “If it mattered then Alfred would have stopped him from painting it.”

She continued to stare in awe so Tim reached around and opened the door for her.

“I am extremely comfortable with you but even that comfort does not extend to helping you shower when you aren’t injured.” He deadpanned.

She blinked, “What?” then her eyes slowly widened as she snapped out of it. “No no no. I'm good. See you at breakfast.”

He laughed as the door closed quickly then continued his search for coffee.

Everyone was just finishing their breakfast when Bruce glanced up over his paper. “What are your plans today Miss Dupen-Cheng?”

“Tim is going to take me out and spend too much money on me.” She answered with a bright smile.

Tim almost snorted his coffee as Bruce just nodded before saying, “That's nice.” As he stood up and left for work.

Marinette turned to look at him and Damian, “He didn’t hear a word I said did he?”

“Nope.” Tim laughed.

Damian glared at him and huffed, “It is not fair that you get out of your responsibilities in order to spend time with DC while I must continue to attend school.”

“I don’t mind you coming along if Tim doesn’t.” Marinette smiled, “As long as I don’t take the blame for you skipping.”

“You can come.” Tim took a sip of coffee as he waited for Damien to show signs of happiness. “But we are going to get manicures, pedicures, and get our nails painted.”
Damiean frowned as he thought about it. After a few long moments he reached for his bag, “I think I shall have to decline.”

“Too embarrassed to get your nails painted?” he teased.

“No. I am just not willing to deal with the ignorant comments from my supposed peers if I do.” He stood gracefully, “Perhaps I shall be allowed to join your other activities.”

Tim blinked a couple of times to hide his shock. Every time he thought he had the Gremlin all figured out the kid had to go and surprise him.

A few moments later Marinette jumped up and raced towards the main doors. “I forgot to compliment him on the painting!”

The spa day had been fantastic and now they were relaxing in the study together. Tim was working on some cold cases while Marinette embroidered one of his dress shirts. The quiet was nice.

Tim winced as the study door swung open loudly and the Gremlin sat next to Marinette. Of course his own thoughts jinxed him.

“I regret not accepting your offer this morning.”

Marinette set aside the shirt carefully so as not to ruin her work, “Long day?”

“Some females came up with the asinine idea that I am shy.”

Tim looked up at that, Damian was painfully blunt. How the hell did they come to that conclusion?

“These females then conspired with the rest of my imbecile classmates to break me out of my hypothetical shell.” He paused to take a calming breath. “It did not matter what barbs or words I used since they had convinced themselves that I was just being prickly as a defense mechanism.”

Marinette looked passed Damian to give him a pleading look. He nodded and pulled up the spa's website with only a small internal sigh.

She smiled wide at the Gremlin, “Let’s go now then.”

“Excuse me?”

“I am thinking black with gold detailing.” Tim smiled as Marinette grabbed Damian's hand and started pulling him out of the room. “Or you could go with a bold cheetah print, maybe in green to match your eyes.”

“I demand to know where you are taking me DC?”

She stopped long enough for Damian to almost free his wrist without hurting her before she was dragging him again. “To get you nails done of course.”

Tim chuckled as she continued to spout off different ideas.

“Drake.” To his amusement the Gremlin almost sounded pleading.

“Don’t worry Little D, I booked us an appointment for manicures. You are the only one who is getting his nails done though.” He smirked and showed off his pink and grey nails with little coffee cups painted on his thumbs.

Damian’s eyes trailed to the hands gripping his wrist and Tim watched surprise as he registered the pattern. Marinette had gotten hers green and pink with cherry blossoms to match the scene painted on her door. He knew the Gremlin would never admit it, but the slight blush showed that he was flattered.

“Were going to the zoo on Wednesday.” Tim said to stop Damian from escaping. “I already told the school that you won’t be going in.”

The Gremlin stopped resisting and looked back at him in surprise even as Marinette started to pull him into the vehicle Alfred somehow had waiting.

“Thursday is a day trip to the park for inspiration and sketching or photography and Friday is a surprise for Marinette but you are still invited. The school believes you are needed as a translator for a visiting guest.”

Damien glared as he climbed into the car, “Why? What are you planning?”

Marinette finally let go of his wrist now that they were secure in the vehicle. “Because I asked. I wanted to thank you for flying the helicopter to come and get me. Also for the beautiful painting on my door.”

“Oh.” Tim had never seen his younger brother’s glare disappear so quickly before. “I shall accept your invites.”

Tim wondered if Damian may even smile when they told him that the kwami wanted to go on patrol with them tonight.
No beta and written on mobile. I hope you enjoyed it even half as much as I enjoyed writing it.

The sun wasn’t even up yet, that was your biggest concern. Not that there could be some kind of emergency but that someone had the audacity to knock on your door before the sun was even up. You swung the door open to see Wilford standing there, looking much more casual than usual and grinning the moment he saw you. “Good morning, sunshine! Ready to go?”
You sighed and let your defenses down. “To go?”
“Yes, to go! To go to the big thing in Chicago!”
“Yeah I remember that, I thought we were leaving at six thirty.”
“It is six thirty.” He said, glancing down at his watch to check.
You stared at him for a moment in sleepy confusion before it finally hit you. “You meant six in the morning??”
“Well of course I meant the morning, can you imagine the traffic that time of day?” He chuckled at the thought and let himself inside. “Besides, the network made it very clear I can’t miss this. Best not to take chances.”
“...You’re lucky you’re cute.” You grumbled, fighting back a yawn as you left to get dressed and grab the bag you packed the night before.
You’d been dating Wil for somewhere close to two years at this point, and you’d been friends for longer than that, and you still never had any idea what to expect from him. There was always a new adventure or shenanigans for him to pull you into, just waiting around the corner. This was one of those times.
When you came back downstairs he took your bag, and your hands in his once it was securely over his shoulder. “Come on, cheer up! I know you took the week off so I made sure this would be worthwhile, planned some stops, made sure we had plenty of time.”
You stopped to lock up your apartment before you two started walking downstairs. “What kind of stops?”
“Sweetheart, you are just gonna have to wait and see.” He told you with a wink.
MONDAY
If Wil hadn’t stopped at a gas station, you probably wouldn’t have been able to keep yourself awake at the start of the drive, but thankfully you took the opportunity to get yourself some caffeine and something for you both to eat. After that it was pretty fun, with music blasting and the windows cracked. Every half hour or so one of you would turn the music down and get into another conversation. You had both been so busy the past few months that you had plenty to talk about. Though, the entire time he made a point to keep a folded up piece of paper out of your reach.
The first detour was through the Las Vegas strip, the only stop being a cozy barbecue place off of an exit. But it was fun to see the grand casinos and attractions nonetheless.
“Okay, this is amazing,” You said, pointing to what was left of your sandwich. “What’s the story behind this place?”
“I’ve actually never been here before, just saw it had four and a half stars.” In the middle of his explanation, he swiped a fry off your plate. “I actually haven’t stayed in Vegas since before all the smart...google...haberdashery.”
You stopped halfway to taking a drink, biting back a smile. “Haberdashery?”
He smiled back, shaking his head at you. “Don’t start.”
“So you really planned this out then, huh?”
“Yeah! I have a whole list of places we’re stopping. Did you expect anything less from me?”
“I probably shouldn’t answer that.” You teased. He gasped in mock offense before both of you burst out laughing.
“Fair enough.”
Once you got back on the road it was an extremely long eight hours, at least in the second half after another gas station stop. Your legs were cramped up and the music was getting a bit tedious and had to be turned down. Wilford assured you it was the longest stretch in the whole trip, but even he was tired by the time you guys got to stop in a small Chinese restaurant on the border of Colorado.  “I should’ve picked a closer hotel.” He mumbled through a yawn, waiting somewhat impatiently on the ‘meal for two’ special. “I really didn’t think it’d be this late.”
“How far is it?” You asked, spinning your straw in your glass.
“‘Nother two hours, I think.”
You nodded, deciding to step in. “You could barely keep your eyes open when we pulled in, you should let me drive.”
“You’re probably right...” He seemed hesitant, but neither one of you wanted this to end in a car crash. “But don’t look at the list.”
“I won’t, I won’t. Jeez”
The next two hours were nice, as it was dark now and there were hardly any cars. It didn’t take more than a few minutes for Wilford to doze off in the passenger seat after he put in the next address and you played an audiobook at a low volume to keep yourself focused. Finally the GPS buzzed; “Your destination is on the left.”
You pulled into the lot of Riverwalk inn and nudged your partner’s shoulder until he finally started to stir. “Hey, c’mon we’re here.”
TUESDAY
You heard an alarm start going off on the other side of the bed and let out a groan, pulling a pillow over your head. “What time is it?”
“It’s eight, get up and get dressed and I’ll find someplace to eat.” And with that Wilford was up and out of bed, no problems.
You on the other hand... “We can’t even sleep in a little bit?”
“Not unless you want to start crossing places off the list, my dear.” He started going through his things to look for something new to wear. “We still have to make it there by Friday...for the thing.”
You grumbled some more, finally dragging yourself out of bed after hearing a couple promises of fresh coffee. “Wilford Warfstache, this ‘thing’ better be the best thing that’ll ever happen to you.”
“I already know it will be!” He said in a sing-song voice as you grabbed your bag and vanished into the bathroom.
“What’s the plan for today anyway?” You called out.
“Nothing much, a couple breaks here and there but it’ll take most of the day to get to-” You heard him cut himself off, “to...the next place. But things’ll get good tomorrow, I promise.”
And when you drove into Oklahoma city that night, you pondered all the possibilities.
WEDNESDAY
It was much easier to get up early, mostly out of excitement. After you two stopped at a random chain restaurant to get something for breakfast, you pushed for answers again. “Come on, you have to tell me now that we’re here.”
“Well, actually I couldn’t decide.”He tore his napkin in two and pull a pen out of what seemed to be thin air. You were about to ask if he even realized he did that, as he usually didn’t, but he held both his now-paper-filled hands out. “So, you pick. Left or right, whatever the paper says is what we’ll do.”
“Okay...left.”
He tossed the other paper over his shoulder and read what yours said. “Ooh good choice.” You tried to lean over the table to see it but he closed his hand quickly, leaning closer to you. “Now, Y/n, if I didn’t know any better I’d think you want to kiss me.”
“I’ll kiss you if you tell me where we’re going.”
He laughed at you and slipped out of the booth without hesitation. “Nope! Not ruining the surprise.”
He was very insistent that it didn’t happen, even convincing you to close your eyes once you were close. He guided you out of the car, and finally let you open your eyes. You looked up at the big green sign.
“OKC Zoo and Botanical Garden.”
“Oh my- are you serious?” You had to stop yourself from jumping up in excitement, and grabbed his hand to pull him inside.
You were still beaming hours after you two left, showing him how all the photos turned out over dinner in Kansas City.
THURSDAY
The audiobook had hit a lull, and you were too sick of pop music to switch it. Wilford was much more quiet than usual, so you kept to yourself for a while after lunch, eventually nodding off for a good half-hour.
“We made it!” Your boyfriend cheered, shutting off the car as you sat up straight. “Oh, sorry, I didn’t even realize.”
“Nah it’s fine. We’re here?”
“Yep! We are officially, finally in Chicago. Ready to stretch your legs?”
You bought some ice cream from a Dessert Dealer before driving down to the architecture center to walk around, even deciding to catch a movie before you checked into the hotel.
“This was the best. week. ever!” You exclaimed, flopping onto the bed.
Wil chuckled and laid down beside you. “It’s not over yet.”
“Well you said no detours planned on the way back, and you’ll be busy with the thing tomorrow, so...safe to say we can call it.” You shrugged, flipping onto your stomach and laying your head on your arms. “What is it anyway? A speech? Big grand opening?”
He didn’t answer you at first, contemplating the answer. “Truth be told...” He started. “The network has no idea I’m here. I just wanted to surprise you with all of this. Because...”
“Because?”
He put up a finger, staring down at his watch until-
FRIDAY
“Because, happy anniversary.” He said with a grin,
You had to pause, doing the math in your head, before sitting up straight. “That is...the sweetest thing anybody’s ever done for me. God, I love you.”
He pulled you into a hug before you started tearing up. “I love you too...In fact I didn’t think it was possible to love someone so much.”
“Me either,” You admitted, pulling back to wipe your face with your sleeve. “Happy anniversary, Wil.”
Little did you know that despite the list being complete, there was still one more surprise in store.
You know, considering the ‘top secret list’ you couldn’t look at was just to keep your attention away from the tiny black box in his suitcase?

She had cheated on him. Cheated on him and he hadn’t even noticed. Of all the emotions coursing through Pat’s ghostly form, frustration was the primary motivator for his tears. How had he never noticed? In life, he had been so caught up in creating wonderful experiences for his scouts, so caught up he hadn’t spotted what was happening right under his nose. Now that he looked back he could see the glances Carol and his best friend shared, how they took care of Daley while Pat was at scout camp, the way he always seemed to be the third wheel, despite being the connecting factor between the two.
Pat rested his forehead against the piercing cold window pane, he couldn’t feel the soothing cool he so desperately desired but the attempt was there. Any death day at Button House led to a quiet and subdued atmosphere as the ghosts were all reminded of the very real, very human lives they once lived. But today had been different, marred not only by the mourning of Pat’s passing but also the shock that Pat’s sweet family life hadn’t been the perfect picture of domestic bliss he had always portrayed.
The others had tried to comfort him - they’d tried to reach out and break the tense atmosphere of the house - but no one had managed to get through to him. As soon as the other ghosts had discovered the truth as to why Pat was in a melancholy trance at the library window, individual plans were made to reach him.
Kitty had come running. She’d been the first to find him crying, curled up with his knees pulled to his chest sobbing quietly into the stormy night. She’d barrelled into the room and engulfed Pat into the biggest hug.
“She didn’t deserve you, Pat,” Kitty had cried. Tears were rolling down her face before she even made it to Pat, she just loved love and couldn’t cope with the break down of her friends marriage - even after death. “You are so wonderful, Pat. You deserved better.”
“I appreciate it, Kitty, I do. But we’re dead, my life was spent on someone who didn’t love me.” Pat yanked his glasses off violently and scrubbed at his eyes, blurring his vision of Kitty sat beside him. She’d stayed for ages with her arms around him, whispering reassurances quietly into his ear but the Kitty’s suffocating grip and even more smothering emotion couldn’t snap Pat from his miserable daze, if anything floundering in his own misery was making the situation worse.
Kitty had disappeared once she’d finally cottoned on to Pat’s yearning to be alone and Pat had been able to return his head to his knees and resume his sorrowful tears. A quiet cough broke the silence. The Captain had towered over him trying to catch his attention.
“Stand to, Patrick,” the Captain had said. “Can’t have you moping for the evening when there are troops to wrangle!”
“I’ve had a rough day, mate. Let me have a few hours,” Pat had told him, sniffling softly.
“It’ll do you no good - wallowing.” The Captain coughed and straightened up. “Your life was the way it was, nothing can be changed now so bury it deep and let’s go to Food Club.”
“With all the love in the world, Cap, the repression tactic isn’t exactly working out for you, so forgive me for not participating.”
Humphrey had also thrown his hat into the ring: “This doesn’t negate the life you lived, Pat. You gave her the most amount of love you could and that’s what matters the most.” But Pat hadn’t wanted a therapy session.
Thomas hadn’t opted for discussion but had instead perched beside Pat composing harrowing poetry around his doomed relationship, which certainly wasn’t helping the mood of the house.
But once they’d run out of ideas, the ghosts had left him alone in the cold library surrounded by nothing but shelves upon shelves of classic love stories and romance novels, mocking him with their happy endings. He curled close into the window and watched the droplets of pelting rain race their way down the glass, tracing them slowly with his ghostly fingers wishing his heart were still beating so he could leave tracks in the steamed window.
“I cheated on my wife,” a voice said from the darkness. Pat startled and jerked up to see Julian had faded through the heavy wooden door and was stood awkwardly in the shadows.
“Cheers, mate,” Pat said. “That makes me feel so much better.”
Julian threw himself down on the sofa opposite Pat, rearranging his shirt tails before lounging back to face the still crying Pat.
“I cheated. A lot. You know, I got up to all kinds of shenanigans: Norwegian noodle parties, lot of them. And raucous nights with-,” Julian gazed off in to the distance as he reminisced.
“Can I stop you there, Julian? Because if I had any lunch, I’d be worried about keeping it down,” Pat said. “Your forgetting I was here, I saw what you got up to.”
“Oh I did worse than you ever saw, don’t doubt that.” Pat shrugged: he didn’t doubt that at all. “I got up to all this fun and Margot was just sat at home. She took care of Rachel; she was a great mother, I imagine. Sure, she wasn’t quite as clueless as you but she suffered what you did.”
“This really isn’t making me any better, Julian,” Pat said, adjusting his glasses carefully. “I don’t want to hear your life story.”
“Well, what do you want? You’re dead! What does it matter? What does it matter if your life wasn’t the perfect artery-clogging Christmas film you always thought it was, you’re stuck here now. What do you want us all to say?” Julian shrugged.
“Lie to me. I don’t care what you say, just lie to me. Make me feel okay again!” Pat’s voice got higher and higher, squeaking at Julian who simply rolled his eyes. The two men sat in the dark. Rain hammered hard against the windows but Button House remained quiet in a melancholy trance.
“What I’m trying to say is my wife did nothing wrong. I wasn’t unhappy with her, per say, she didn’t do anything to harm me, nothing to stop me loving her. Just life, it got in the way, you know? Some people are just like that and others get left hurt in their wake,” Julian admitted. “You’re the same as my wife, Pat. You did nothing wrong to Carol. You didn’t do anything.”
“I didn’t make her happy either,” Pat said.
“Who cares?” Julian huffed. “Who cares about some woman who clearly didn’t value you the way you did her? You made your son happy, and those boys - the scouts. You make that lot downstairs happy, sometimes. They don’t know how to show it particularly well but you do.”
Pat sighed. “I thought seeing them, learning about my family’s lives, I thought it would make me feel better. I really believed I was moving on because I found out about what Carol did. Silly idea really!”
“Seems logical enough, but probably a good thing you weren’t sucked off.” Pat turned away from the window and shot a quizzical look at Julian. “If I don’t have someone to delegate my leadership to, I’d be forced to herd that bunch of berks - they’re worse than the electorate. I’d have better luck organising monkeys at the zoo to do the quickstep than getting any order out of them.”
“Your leadership?” Pat chuckled.
“I’m the only elected official in this house,” Julian straightened his tie and stood to leave. “But I don’t like to force my authority; delegation is an important tool for a powerful political player.”
“Of course,” Pat smirked to himself.
Julian marched across the room towards the closed door, only turning back at the last second.
“Anyway, buck up your ideas, Pat. You’re needed.” Pat furrowed his eyebrows and shot a confused look at Julian. “The Captain’s trying to keep Robin from throwing Humphrey onto the fire - you know how he gets around a flame. They’re making a bloody scene and could do with some of your childcare expertise.” Pat grinned and followed Julian out of the library - leaving his despondent stupor for the first time in hours.
He couldn’t go back and change what had happened during his life, he wasn’t even sure he knew what he would change if he could. He’d tried his absolute best t everything he did during his short life. He tried to be the best husband to Carol, the best father to Daley, the best mentor for his scouts - even if something had gone wrong, there was nothing more he could give. And if he couldn’t be the best in life anymore, Pat was certain he’d be the best in death - the best friend, the best father-figure, the best mentor for a gang of needy ghosts.

Excerpt from a story I’ll never write: A day at the Muggle-zoo.
“We’re going to have him for a whole day!”
Sirius was bouncing up and down next to Remus, who was styling his hair in the mirror. Remus snickered. “Would you knock it off already— you might poke my eye out.” Sirius laughed widely at him, exposing his freshly-brushed set of perfect teeth. “I can’t help it!” he said. “I’m just so excited. I can’t believe it!” He threw his hands up in the air so that Remus really had to duck this time to avoid having his eye poked out. “A whole day spend with the love of my life!”
“Oh, well, that’s sweet of you,” Remus said, grabbing his toothbrush. “But don’t you think Harry—”
“Oh no, I meant Harry!”
Remus opened his mouth, surprised. “Well, shit,” he said, grinning. “I’ve got competition.”
Sirius threw his arms around his husband, kissing him in the neck. “Oh, don’t you worry, tiger. My love’s up in the universe for you. Harry’s just a tiny star.” Remus smiled. “Makes me feel a little bit better,” he said, shrugging Sirius off of him so he could move his arm to brush his teeth.
“Alright, lover! Meet me in the kitchen when you’re done,” Sirius said, happily. Remus hadn’t seen him glow like that in a while. “I’ve got breakfast ready.”
Breakfast was done in a nick of time for Sirius was too excited to eat his burned toast in peace. He gulped it down and then just sat at the dining table, looking so restlessly at Remus that Remus put his half-eaten piece of bread in a sandwich bag to take with him on the road. He rolled his eyes as Sirius cleaned up the table in a rush so Remus could put on his shoes. He didn’t know what Sirius was more excited about: the fact that they were going to spend a whole day with Harry or that they were going to a real Muggle-zoo.
Sirius had been so impressed when Remus had suggested the idea to him and James and Lily, only knowing of it for having studied Muggle Studies at school. Lily had immediately backed him up of course, remembering her own good times visiting the zoo with her parents and sister. Remus wasn’t really that much of a fan, to be very honest. He didn’t like the idea of animals being kept in cages, because of the fact that the Ministry of Magic did the exact same thing with werewolves at the night of the full moon. Registered werewolves, at least.
But for a toddler, he’d thought that it’d be fun. And by toddler, he meant Sirius as much as Harry.
“Ready?” Sirius said, handing him the sack of Floo Powder.
“Come on, get moving,” Remus said, smiling and pushing him in the back. Sirius grabbed him by the hand and together they stepped into the fireplace that had been magically enchanted to fit the both of them. “Count to three,” Sirius said. “One, two, three— The Potters!” The words hadn’t even completely left their tongues yet, but their home vanished away and instead of their living room, they saw multiple other blurry wizarding homes. The simmering sparks of fire didn’t hurt one bit and in less than ten seconds Remus and Sirius stepped out of the fireplace onto a nice and clean red carpet.
“Oi, Moony! Padfoot!” James came walking into the living room of his home as Sirius and Remus brushed the rest of some ashes off of their shoulders. “What’s poppin’, Prongs?” Sirius said, nodding his head. James looked at him in horror. “What’s what now?” he asked, looking at Remus as if he would have some kind of cure to fix whatever just came out of Sirius’s mouth. Remus shrugged his shoulders in a way that said: “I’m as lost as you are”, but he opened his mouth to say: “Something he picked up in the record store in town. Apparently, it’s the slang kids use these days.”
Sirius shot him a look. “Apparently,” he said, mocking Remus. “It makes me sound dope, so shut your face.”
James’s eyes were now really wide with disturbance. “Pads, if you talk like that in front of my child, I swear to god—”
“No, no! I’m sorry, I’ll act normal,” Sirius said, quickly. “Well—” He very attractively flipped his hair over his shoulder. “—As normal as I can be, of course.” He winked at Remus, who felt his stomach flutter at this. Handsome devil, he thought.
“Where’s Harry, anyway?” Sirius went on, looking around the room as if Harry was hiding behind some cushions. “Is he—” But suddenly the door flew open and Lily came in, carrying Harry, an adorable miracle of a small child, on her arm.
“I thought I heard some annoyingly familiar voices,” she said, nodding to Sirius. The long-haired boy scoffed, but his eyes were far too distracted to pay any attention to her. They were on Harry, who had his tiny arms stretched out to his godfather ever since he’d first laid eyes on him. “Hello, my darling!” Sirius said, enthusiastically. “If your dear mother would let me— that’s a good girl. Hi, Harry!” Sirius had gracefully taken over Harry from Lily’s arms and held him high up in the air. “How are you doing today?”
“Paddie!” Harry cooed. “Mummy said zoo?”
“Oh, you just keep on getting better at talking! Remus, do you hear that?” Sirius was delighted, looking so full of pride, Remus couldn’t help but wonder why his chest was not bursting yet. But Remus was very proud as well— Harry spoke much more articulately since the last time they'd seen him.
“Mummy was right,” Sirius said. “Do you even know what a zoo is? James, how can you teach him words and not—”
“Remus?” As Sirius kept on talking to James and Harry, Lily turned to Remus. “You’ll take good care of them, right?” she asked him. He nodded. “Of course, Lils, there’s no need to worry.”
She smiled gracefully, her freckles sparkling on her nose and a laugh filling her eyes. “I’ve packed him some lunch and he’s got his own cup to drink from, but you can buy him something at the zoo as well, if you want. He does like chocolate ice cream a lot. I think he’s got that from you—” Remus smiled apologetically at this. “—I’ve packed him some cookies, you know, those cute star-like ones? I chipped in a few for Sirius as well, just so you know.” Remus smiled at her and then leaned into her and gave her a soft kiss on the cheek. She blushed.
“We’ll be fine,” Remus assured her. “I’ll have us all safely back at the end of the day.” He then turned to the boys. “Pads, you ready? Our bus leaves in ten minutes.” Sirius nodded. “Moowy!” the boy in his arms said, happily. “Oh, I’m being noticed,” Remus chuckled, walking over to the both of them and taking Harry over from Sirius. “Hi, lad,” he said, softly. Sirius watched him in loving awe. “C’mon, give your mummy a kiss goodbye.”
They bid everyone goodbye and then, finally, they were on their way to the zoo. It wasn’t really a long ride, but it was a tad awkward for the two boys for they had never in their lives used a buggy before. Harry was still too small to walk around on his feet for a whole day.
Once they arrived at the zoo, Sirius was glad Remus knew how to work with Muggle-money, because the little coins and shiny money notes made him dizzy and there were simply too many other distractions around him that he had to contain already. They followed the signs that were on either sides of the paths and those lead them to a small area with cages full of owls and very extraordinary looking birds.
“Bird!” Harry exclaimed, happily pointing at a great white owl who looked proudly around its cage. Its feathers were unnaturally clean, but gorgeous. “No, Harry. Owl. A snow-owl, actually,” Sirius read off of one of the signs. “Makes sense,” he nodded agreeably, looking back at the owl.
“Swow owl,” Harry said, and Remus chuckled. “Good job, lad,” he praised the little boy. For some reason, Harry couldn’t quite pronounce the letter ‘n’ yet. It suited his adorable, young face and in a silent moment, Remus wished Harry wouldn’t have to grow up and that he’d stay young forever. But, on the other hand, it filled Remus with intense happiness to know that he’d grow up to be there with him, and Sirius, too, and that one day, they’d be called uncle Padfoot and uncle Moony.
With that thought forming a smile on his lips, Remus let his hand slip into Sirius’s. Sirius seemed quite surprised by this for a second, but kept holding onto it. They never really showed off their relationship in public places, because they never really felt like they had to— it was enough that they knew one another’s love. The rest of the world had no business in it.
But, today it felt right. It’s like having a family of my own, Remus thought, delighted.
They had ice cream for lunch, chocolate flavour for Harry, and Sirius was overjoyed with the cookies that Lily had packed for him. “I must buy her a souvenir!” he said. “Maybe that stuffed animal-penguin we saw earlier? Oh, she’d love that!” Remus snickered at his enthusiasm and wiped Harry’s lips clean.
Suddenly, a shadow covered the sunlight from their view: “Excuse me.”
An older-looking man stood in front of them. “What a lovely son you have there. Here, I noticed he let his rattle fall onto the floor.” The man held out his hand and Remus took over the toy. “Th— Thanks,” he said surprised. “But it’s not our son, really. We’re just babysitting.”
“Oh, so you’re not—” The man seemed to be looking for words, but he didn’t need to. Proudly, as he always was, Sirius wrapped an arm around Remus’s shoulders. Remus started blushing immensely as Sirius held him close and said: “Oh, we are, yes.”
The man chuckled. “How endearing,” he said. “Oh, to be young and in love. Well, I wish you all a happy day.” He gave them a small wave and stroked Harry’s little bush of black curls. Sirius let his head rest on Remus’s shoulder. “I love those kind of people,” he sighed. “Can you believe he thought that we were… you know. Parents?” He chuckled at this.
“Well, what if we were?” Remus suddenly asked, carefully. Sirius looked up to look him in the eye. “Are you s—?”
“Padfoot, I will not make the joke.”
Sirius smirked. “Oh, you’re no fun,” he said, eyes twinkling. His face got a bit more serious again, before asking: “Do you mean it, though?”
Remus shrugged. “Would it freak you out that much?”
Sirius started shaking his head wildly. “No! No, not at all!” he said, squeezing Remus’s hands. “Moony, that’d be so lovely! Me, a dad! Harry, do you hear that?” But as they turned their heads, they saw that Harry’s chin was softly balancing on his chest, his eyes closed and snoring a bit. “Oh, what a weakling,” Sirius said, pursing his lips together.
“Sirius! He’s a kid!”
Sirius shrugged. “You’re calling me a kid all the time, but you don’t see me beauty sleeping here.” Remus disapprovingly shook his head at him. “Okay, sorry!” Sirius laughed. “Harry, I love you.”
“He can’t hear you.”
“Okay, then Remus, I love you.”
Remus started laughing. “You big goof,” he said, shaking his head. “Shall we talk about it later? Bit of big subject to talk about in a zoo, no?”
“What do you mean? They keep like 50 animals here, I think it can handle one big conversation.” Sirius laughed at Remus, looking happier than ever as he leaned in and stole a quick kiss from Remus’s lips.
“Can we go see the lions now?” he pouted.
Remus pulled him closer, not giving a damn in the world about people seeing them, and he kissed him gently back. “We can go see the lions now.”

Love Is Blind: Chapter Twenty-Three
Chris turned over in the bed and frowned as he felt an empty space next to him. Robyn had to have been gone for a minute because the sheet was cold. He ran his hand over his head before he climbed out of the bed. Slipping his feet into a pair of slippers and pulling a t-shirt over his head, Chris made his way out of the bedroom. The smell of bacon hit his nose as he reached the top of the stairs. He quickly made his way to the kitchen and walked in just as Robyn pulled a pan of muffins out of the oven. He cleared his throat and Robyn smiled over at him, “a little early for you, ain’t it?”
Robyn chuckled, “Good morning Babe. I figured I’d make breakfast since I was up anyway. Did I wake you?”
“No. I rolled over to cuddle you and the bed was empty. I got nervous.”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to make you worry. I’m good. Just wanted to do something nice, that’s all.”
“It smells good.”
“Thank you. I was gonna bring some upstairs to you so we could eat together before the kids woke up.”
“We can still make that happen. What do you still need to do?”
“Just make the plates and put the rest in the oven to keep warm for the kids.”
“I can help.”
“You don't have to do that, Babe.”
“I want to.”
Chris walked over to her and kissed her lips, “thank you for this.”
“You haven’t even eaten yet.”
“Doesn’t matter. The intent is enough for me.”
Robyn smiled as she leaned in to kiss him, “you are trouble.”
Chris chuckled as he moved over to the sink and washed his hands, “point me to where I need to be.”
Within a few minutes, they were sitting on the enclosed back porch, eating breakfast. Robyn cut a piece of pancake and dipped into the small puddle of syrup on the side of her plate then held it out to Chris. He ate the piece then kissed her cheek.
“Eww...now I got syrup on my face.”
“I can always lick it off.”
“Nope. You just trying to be fresh now.”
Chris laughed as he sat his own plate on the nearby coffee table. He took Robyn’s plate from her and set it next to his on the table before grabbing her around the waist to pull her into his lap. Robyn giggled as she settled back against his chest, “what are you doing now?”
“I just want to hold you, that’s all.”
“Well then let me turn around.”
Robyn got up then turned around to saddle Chris’s lap. He wrapped his arms around her and rested his hands on the top of her butt. Robyn put her arms around his neck and pecked his lips, “much better.”
“Now who’s being the troublemaker?”
Robyn giggled as she pressed her forehead against his, “what’s our plans for today?”
“You keep moving in my lap like this, I’ma turn on some cartoons for the kids and lock you up in our bedroom for a few hours.”
“You are silly. I’m serious.”
“Depends on if you wanna stay on the grounds or go exploring.”
“We can go out for the day.”
“Ok, there’s a zoo I think the kids will love, then we can just wing it from there.”
“Works for me.”
“Mommy! Daddy! Look at the baby goat,” Anesa exclaimed as the park attendant led her into the animal gate. The attendant handed Chris a  plastic sandwich bag full of food pellets. Chris poured a small amount in Anesa’s palm and instructed her to hold out her hand, “just wait a second and the goat will come to you. Just remain calm, Nesa.”
Anesa steadied her hand just as the goat came to sniff at her palm. The animal moved tentatively closer before he began nibbling at the pellets. Anesa held her other hand to her mouth as she giggled. Robyn smiled as she snapped a few pictures of the moment, “Nesa Boo, watch your hand near his mouth.”
“Yes Mommy.”
Chris glanced over at Robyn before leaning over to kiss her temple. “You seem to be enjoying this as much as the kids are.”
“Anesa is loving it. Christian has been asleep this entire time.”
Chris chuckled as he peeked under the blanket covering the carrier affixed to the front of Robyn’s body. Christian was fast asleep with his thumb in his mouth.
“I hope that doesn’t become a habit,” Chris murmured as he kissed the baby’s forehead then placed the blanket back over his head.
“He’ll be alright. You think of where we’re going to eat lunch?”
Chris shrugged as he poured more food pellets into Anesa’s hand, “depends on what you would like to eat. There’s a couple steak places we can try.”
“Sounds good.”
“You know what you want to do tomorrow?”
“Depends on what we do tonight.”
Chris raised his brow in shock and Robyn laughed, “are you starting with me because it’s too early for you to be starting with me?”
“It is never too early, Christopher.”
“If that’s the case, steak restaurant has been scratched from the plans.”
“What? We still have to eat.”
“Oh we’re gonna eat, just not in a restaurant.”
“So what are you saying?”
“You know exactly what I’m saying especially since I can’t say it out loud.”
Robyn laughed as she leaned into his shoulder, “and you call me a troublemaker.”
“You started that first.”
“Whatever.”
“Daddy, I need more food,” Anesa said as she made her way back to the fence. Chris poured the last bit of pellets into her hand, “alright Love Bug, after this we’re gonna see a few more animals then go eat dinner.”
“Can we have pizza, Daddy?”
“Sure. We’ll pick up some pizza on the way. Anything else?”
“And ice cream?”
“We’ll get some ice cream to go too.”
“Yay! Thank you!”
Anesa kissed his cheek before running back over to the attendant to feed the baby goat she was standing with.
                                        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robyn hummed as she stepped out of the shower and wrapped a plush towel around her waist then another around her head. Just as she opened the closet door, her phone rang. She grabbed it and slid over the answer button, “hello?”
“Hey Sis.”
“Le, what’s going on?”
“Nothing much. Just bored and pregnant,” Leandra replied, “you?”
“About to get dressed. Just got out the shower.”
“Oh ok.”
“Something wrong?”
“No. Max is at work and Maxwell is asleep so it’s just me up right now.”
“Well it’s still early, there’s nothing on TV?”
“I’ve watched all the shows, I swear and Netflix is no damn help.”
Robyn chuckled, “I’m sorry. I wish I could help.”
“But you can’t. Where’s my brother?”
“He’s making us a late dinner. We’ve been out at the zoo with the kids all day.”
“That’s so cute. How are they?”
“They’re good. They both went down pretty easy so I hopefully they stay sleep.”
“Hope so too. Their parents need to work on getting their groove back.”
“It is not like that.”
“Well it should be. Y’all got almost a year of fucking to make up for.”
“Leandra!”
“What? You know I’m right.”
“I cannot with you.”
“But you can with your husband.”
“He is not my-”
“Girl, whatever. Tell somebody who doesn't know any better. He proposed yet?”
“No. We both know we aren’t ready to go there yet.”
“You mean you aren’t ready to go there.”
“Same thing.”
“Not exactly.”
“Le.”
“What? I need something to do and planning your wedding would be perfect so hurry the hell up.”
“If we do get married again, I’m not having a wedding.”
“What? Why?”
“We’ve already did that part. It wouldn’t be about that anyway.”
“At least let me plan a reception.”
“There’s nothing to plan, Le.”
“Well hurry up so there can be. This pregnancy is driving me insane.”
“How is my niece or nephew?”
“They are fine.”
“They as in you aren’t telling us the gender yet or they as in there’s more than one?”
“There’s more than one.”
“You’re having twins? Yes!”
“I am petrified.”
“Why?”
“What the hell am I going to do with two babies? That’s too much.”
“It’s just perfect. Le, you’re gonna do fine.”
“All I know is my uterus is closed for business. I am getting my tubes tied after this.”
“Whatever works for you.”
“And what about you?”
“What about me?”
“Any more babies?”
“No. I don’t want to go through anymore surgeries right now but I’m definitely not having anymore kids. That last pregnancy took me out.”
“I understand. Well you and Christopher better be careful.”
“We are very careful.”
“So what’s the plan for tonight?”
“Far as I know, just dinner but he always has something up his sleeve.”
“Well I’ma let you get to it. When you coming back?”
“Probably Monday. He has a class on Tuesday.”
“Cool.”
“I’ll take Tuesday off and bring the kids by to check on you. I need to see that belly.”
“Oh God, don’t mention the belly. I am so fucking fat.”
Robyn laughed, “I love you Le.”
“Love you too, Sis. Enjoy your night.”
“I will. And you get some sleep, please.”
“Will do. Bye Sis.”
“Bye Le.”
Robyn hung up and tossed her phone back on the bed. She squeezed the towel that was wrapped around her hair before pulling it off and tossing it into the hamper. She moved to ruffle through the outfits she had hanging in the closet and decided on a short spaghetti strap dress. It was fitted without being tight, giving her a modicum of comfort. Tossing the hanger with the dress on it on the bed, she grabbed her body cream and sat down on the bed to put it on.
“Underwear or no underwear?” she murmured to herself.
After a few moments, she held the dress up to her body in the mirror then slipped it over her head. She turned to see her backside and smirked, “definitely no underwear.”
“There you are. I was getting ready to come upstairs and get you,” Chris remarked as Robyn walked into the kitchen.
“I had to take a shower. I felt all sticky from being outside all day.”
“Not a problem. I like that dress. It’s cute.”
“Thank you. I didn’t want to get too fancy since we weren’t leaving the house.”
“You’re beautiful in absolutely anything.”
“I could put on a garbage bag and you’d probably say that.”
“Probably be the sexiest garbage bag I’ve ever seen.”
Robyn laughed as she leaned into his side. Chris wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her temple, “you ready to eat?”
“What are we having, Master Chef?”
“We are having honey glazed salmon, roasted asparagus with crispy garlic smashed potatoes and sparkling grape juice since you can’t drink alcohol yet.”
“That’s the dinner we had on the day you proposed to me. You really cooked or did you order?”
“I cooked. It was one of the first dishes I wanted to learn how to make when I took cooking classes as one of my therapy assignments.”
“Now I feel like I should’ve dressed up a bit more.”
“You look perfect. I really do like that dress.”
“You sure?”
“Positive. I’m not dressed up either.”
Robyn gave him a long look then smiled up at him, “definitely a bit more dressed up than me. Is that another shirt that I bought?”
“The one when we went on vacation to Italy.”
“We went on a lot of trips that first year.”
“We did. We never made it to the Maldives though.”
“We could always go when we get the chance. Probably once the babies are older”
“We don’t have to wait. Winter break is always a good time to go.”
“I don’t know if I’ll want to be that far from them just yet.”
“Such a Mommy.”
Robyn chuckled as she nudged his shoulder, “you made me one.”
“I did. You ready to eat?”
“Yes Sir.”
Chris pulled out a chair from the dining table and Robyn sat down. He moved to the oven and started to put the serving platters of food on the table. He poured juice into their wine classes before taking his seat perpendicular to Robyn’s seat. She carefully smoothed the wrinkles from the table cloth, “Chris?”
“Yes?”
“Are you gonna propose to me again?”
“Not tonight.”
“Ok.”
“You really don’t have to worry about me springing a proposal on you every time I do something fancy. I just wanted to remember how much fun we had the first time. Just some nostalgia. That’s all.”
“Ok.”
 “I’m starting to think that you’re warming up to this marriage thing.”
Robyn shrugged, “it’s not as scary as it was to me.”
“That’s good. As long as you’re thinking about it.”
“I don’t want to but-”
“You so nervous I’m gonna propose all the time, you can’t not think about it.”
“I guess you could say that.”
Chris laughed as he rubbed the back of her hand, “you know you could definitely start calling me your husband, It could ease your anxiety.”
“Or make it worse.”
“Really? Why?”
“That makes it sound real.”
“It is real, Ms. Fenty-Brown.”
Robyn rolled her eyes as Chris emphasized the “Brown” on the end of her last name, “I carry your name still, I remember.”
“Exactly so I don’t know why you acting like this is so brand new to you”
“I haven’t had a husband in eight years, Christopher.”
“Physically. Emotionally is a totally different thing.”
Robyn rolled her eyes, “you love your semantics, don’t you?”
“When they highlight truth, yes.”
Robyn laughed, “can you just fix my plate so we can eat?”
“Are you claiming defeat, Robyn?”
“I am officially waving the white flag. For now.”
Chris smiled as he leaned over and kissed her lips, “you are so stubborn.”
“You don’t have on underwear,” Chris remarked in slight disbelief as he ran his hands down Robyn’s backside. She was straddling his lap as they sat on the enclosed back porch. It had become their pseudo spot while they were at the cabin.
Robyn laughed as she shifted her weight in his lap, “I’m surprised it took you so long to notice.”
“That ass been jiggling all night, I just assumed you had on a thong or something. You don’t usually go commando.”
She shrugged as she rubbed the back of her neck, “Just in the mood, I guess.”
“You’ve been rubbing your neck all night. You ok?”
“It just feels a little stiff,” she noticed Chris’s body language change, “not like that. I’m not having another seizure, promise. I think I slept on it wrong.”
“Let me see,” Chris replied as he carefully cupped the sides of her neck. He gently massaged each side using just his fingertips. Robyn groaned in satisfaction as she let her neck relax back into his hands. Chris chuckled lightly, “lean forward for me, Baby.”
Robyn leaned forward and pressed her forehead against Chris’s. He smiled, “Hi.”
“Hi Boyfriend.”
“Stubborn ass.”
Robyn laughed then kissed his lips.
“Just close your eyes and relax. You’re really tense around your shoulders.”
Robyn moved to press her cheek to his as Chris continued to gently massage around her neck and shoulders. He carefully tapped his fingertips along her spine and she sighed shakily. Chris continued for a few more minutes, “feel better?”
“I see why massages always end in sex.”
Chris laughed, “why you say that?”
“It’s sexual as hell.”
“Or you’re just kinky as hell and like me wrapping my hand around your neck.”
“That could be it too.”
Chris laughed again as he shifted Robyn in his lap, “how about we take advantage of the jacuzzi and I give you a real massage afterwards?”
“That sounds good.”
“Good.”
“Oh my god,” Robyn moaned as she leaned back against the jacuzzi wall, “Babe, we need one of these at the house.”
“You really want one because I’ll get it for you.”
“You don’t have to be so sweet all the time, Christopher.”
“I’m just saying that I have no problem getting one installed for you.”
“Thank you but I’m just being extra.”
Chris shrugged, “Sit up so I can sit behind you.”
Robyn scooted forward as Chris climbed into the tub behind her. She rested her back against his chest and Chris settled his arms over her shoulders, “what did you put in it here? It smells good.”
“It’s bath oil. Helps soften the skin and it smells good.”
“I’m starting to think you’ve done this before.”
“Google is man’s best friend.”
“What else has Google gave you an idea about?”
“Now if I told you that, I wouldn’t be able to surprise you anymore.”
“Now that, I doubt.”
Robyn shifted against his midsection and Chris groaned before he could catch himself, “I’m sorry, Baby. Did I hurt you?”
“The opposite.”
“Oh well then,” She pressed closer and could his erection resting against her back, “it would be very easy to do something about that.”
“I didn’t do this for that.”
“Never said you did but I’m definitely doing this for that.”
She carefully moved his arms to settle on the edge of the jacuzzi as she carefully turned around to straddle his waist. She stroked his erection for a few moments before she sat on it in one quick drop.”
“Shiii-” Chris hissed through clenched teeth. Robyn giggled as she wrapped her arms around his neck, “feel better?”
“You are dangerous, Woman.”
“And you feel so good right now.”
“I haven’t moved yet.”
“You really don’t have to. You are settled in the perfect spot.”
“Sometimes I think you like him more than me.”
“I wouldn’t want him without you. My heart and body don't work that way.”
“Glad to hear it. May I move now?”
“Yes.”
Chris grabbed her hips and started to push upward as she pressed down. The pace soon quickened and water started to slosh over the side of the tub. Robyn tucked her face into his neck and bit down on his skin.
“Damn it, you feel so good,” Robyn murmured as she gripped the edge of the tub and Chris slid into her from behind. This guttural moan slipped from between his lips as their skin smacked against each other and more water sloshed around them.
“Oh God, Chris, I’m cumming.”
“I’m right there. Come with me, Baby.”
“Mmmm….I can feel it.”
“I’m right here. Just let it go. I got you.”
“Oh MY GOD!”
Robyn bit down on her lip as she felt her body start to convulse. Chris gripped her body tightly around her waist and leaned into her as he felt her walls tighten and her lose grip. He lifted her up and held her back against his chest as the tremors continued through her body. He murmured soft words against her ear as he waited for her body to calm itself, “Just breathe for me, Sweetie. Just deep breaths.”
Her breathing started to slow. Her body started to relax. Chris pressed a palm to her stomach and to her chest, carefully measuring her heartbeat.
“There you go, Sweetie. Nice and easy.”
A few moments passed and Chris kissed her cheek, “you ok?”
“I’m ok.” Robyn replied softly, “I didn’t expect it to hit me like that.”
“I’m just glad I know the difference between your orgasms and your seizures.”
Robyn giggled as she took a few breaths, “Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. That’s exactly what we both needed.”
“I don’t want to make you nervous about stuff like this.”
“I’m not nervous. I know I have to be prepared for the unexpected. You’re worrying too much.”
Chris kissed her cheek then turned her face to look at him, “I’m not nervous. I’m not scared. I’d never intend to fuck you into a seizure but I won’t be embarrassed if I do.”
Robyn pinched his side and Chris yelped, “OUCH! What was that for?”
“For being conceited.”
“I am not conceited. I am confident in my abilities as I should be.”
“There you go with your semantics again.”
Chris laughed as he kissed her lips, “I love you, Wife.”
“Whatever, Boyfriend.”
“Stubborn ass.”
Robyn laughed as she pulled his arms around her to hold her tight, “we might need to get out, the water is getting cold.”
“In a minute. I like holding you like this.”
Robyn smiled as she rested her head on his chest.
