Iwaizumi Hajime x Reader

Prompt 14 under fluff

You’d been best friends with Iwaizumi Hajime for years. When you were in high school, you met through a mutual friend who had been trying to play matchmaker. You could never forget the way he smacked Oikawa upside the head and you, shocked, laughed until you cried while Tooru pathetically whined “Owww, that hurt Iwa-chan!” The three of you were a trio from then on out, with you and Iwaizumi getting closer after graduation. Now, in college, the two of you spend most breaks between classes together, plan your schedules so they’d be coordinated, and even moved into an apartment as roommates.

Oikawa, who continued volleyball professionally, was incredibly jealous when you video called him to show him your new apartment. Entirely unexpectedly, he was showing his whole team in an attempt to gain some form of sympathy for this pour soul whose two best friends just moved in together while you end the call.

You jog outside to help Hajime with more moving boxes. He’d nearly emptied the truck while you were on the phone with Oikawa, having popped into the call to briefly say hello while carrying your armchair. You had to admit, one awesome perk about moving in with Iwaizumi was that he was ridiculously strong. Biceps reminiscent of hams kind of strong. He insisted on grabbing all the heavy items, leaving you with throw pillows and bedspreads to bring in, a task that you finished quickly. Now you were lugging in a box while your best friend effortlessly carried three at a time. While you hauled in your box, Iwaizumi finished unloading the truck and locked it up. Standing side by side, you look in on your new place.

“Thanks for eliminating the need for a moving company. I knew your rippling muscles could handle it.” You smile, squeezing his bicep playfully. It’s hard to miss the red on his cheeks and the tips of his ears, but you simply chalk it up to carrying an apartment’s worth of boxes in at light speed.

“No problem. Should we get to unpacking?” He asks, blushing further as you hold onto his arm, leaning into him.

“Actually, I picked something up on the way here as a surprise. I thought that there’s no better way to break in a new apartment than with something that reminds us of home so..” You say as you walk to the fridge, “I got us sushi from our favorite grocery store back home! Yay..” You smile, opening the fridge door and pulling out the plastic grocery bag.

“Wow, this quality is on par with the sushi from the place I took you for your birthday last year.” He teases sarcastically, peering into the bag at the plastic containers.

“Hey, I can’t do much on a college budget. Give me a break.” You smile up at him, proud of yourself for the little lunch you got. “And I brought a blanket and some pillows, so we don’t have to sit on the floor.”

“I can easily move a couch and table-”

“This is my surprise, let me have this.”

He laughs, taking the bag from you so you can set it up how you’d like. He watches as you set the blanket on the ground, smoothing it out before covering it with pillows. You take your seat and smile up at him invitingly. His heart squeezes in his chest, and he returns your smile while taking a spot as his own. You two unpack the bag, prying open the plastic containers before digging in. He watches you as you shovel the sushi into your mouth, clear that you were hungry.

“You should eat more.”

“Whuh?” You ask, looking up at him with your cheeks full.

He laughs at the sight, brightly smiling as he elaborates. “You should eat more. You’re obviously hungry. Did you eat breakfast before you left?”

“And what if I didn’t?”

“Then thank your lucky stars that you have me. I know I do. I care about you, Y/N. And that’s why we’re going to have to start eating all our meals together so I can make sure you’re eating.”

“You mean you’re finally on board with Bestie Brekkie? I’ve been begging you to do that with me for months, Iwa.”

“We’re not calling it that.”

“Yes we are.”

“No.”

“Butthead.”

“Butthead? What are you, twelve?” He chuckles.

“You still laughed, that makes us both twelve.”

“You’re unbelievable.”

“Yet you still love me.”

He blushes. “Yeah, I do.”

a/n: this didn't necessarily how I wanted it to turn out but I didn't want it to be 5k words, I hope you like it either way. sorry it took so long to get to though.

You met Kyotani Kentaro when you were both five. You and your family had just moved in next door and the Kyotani family stopped by to welcome you guys to the neighborhood, in tow was a grumpy looking kid about your age. You were staring intently at the kid who was scowling back with his arms crossed as your families introduced themselves. “...and this is our son Kentaro.” You took a mental note of his name as your mom introduced your family. “...and this is our daughter Y/n.” Your mom said finishing her introductions. You didn’t know it but Kyotani Kentaro took a mental note of your name as well.

After that your families grew closer together, often going to one another's houses for weekly get-togethers on the weekends. While your parents caught up and talked about their work week you and Kentaro were often in another room doing something else. The first few times you spent at each other's houses Kentaro was stubborn. Often trying to get away and hide from you, but you could be stubborn too. You found him every week and made him hang out with you. He gave up trying to hide after the first few times and actually grew to think of you as his best friend.

Five years later you were watching a movie that your parents had rented for you and Kentaro during your weekly hang out sessions. You were half way through the movie and you and Kentaro were making fun of the characters on screen laughing together when both families came into the living room. “You two would be so cute together.” Kentaro’s mom teased as she smirked at the both of you. You guys looked at each other before looking away and pretending to throw up. As much as you both loved each other and felt connected, it was a platonic connection. You felt more like siblings than anything.

You two brought out the best in each other, always growing and improving with each other. Kentaro was still rough and harsh with other people around but you brought out the best in each other. Encouraged each other, you convinced him to join the volleyball team and he supported you in all the decisions you made, helping you when you needed it and vice versa. Being in different classes you didn’t get to hang out in school as much as you would’ve liked, occasionally you’d eat lunch together but not often. Usually you’d just walk home together after both of your after school activities got done and hang out at someone's house.

You were in your second year at Aoba Johsai and your club got done a little earlier than usual so you decided to go check on Kentaro’s volleyball practice. As you neared the entrance to the gym you could hear a small argument happening. As you opened the doors and took a few steps in you were greeted by Oikawa Toru. “Hey there cutie, how can I help you?” You ignored his greeting instead walking up to Kentaro who looked like he was about to start a fist fight with a first year student who looked scared out of his mind.

You walked up behind Kentaro and not so nicely tapped his shoulder, as he whipped around he not so quietly said “What do you want?” You raised your eyebrow at him as you scoffed, “I know you are not talking to ME like that Kyotani Kentaro.” You said as you crossed your arms and waited for a response. Kentaro stumbled over his words as he looked for a response, it’s not that he was afraid of you, Kentaro wasn’t really afraid of anything. However, you could be frightening when upset and angry, and he didn’t see you upset or angry often nor did he want to.

“Sorry.” He said sheepishly and quietly as he rubbed the back of his neck. The whole gym watched in confusion and awe as you two interacted with each other. You listening while he explains what was going on and you scolding him about being too harsh with people younger than him as he nodded along to what you were saying.

“I’m sorry but who are you, why haven’t we met or seen you yet and how did you tame mad dog?” Oikawa said, interrupting your conversation. You furrowed your brows as you looked at Kentaro confused and mouthed ‘mad dog?’ as he shrugged in response. “I’m Y/n, and I’m his friend. We don’t have the same class and are in different after school activities, and by “mad dog” did you mean ‘Taro?” You answered Oikawa’s questions, and as you turned to face him you saw the rest of the third years minus Iwaizumi also looking confused at the situation at hand. “What?” You asked.

“We’ve just never heard of you. Mad dog doesn’t really talk to anyone at practice and the only time we can get him to calm down is when Iwaizumi steps in.” Matsukawa explained. “Yeah Iwaizumi is the only one he respects enough to listen to, so it’s kind of a shock that some random girl just came in here and did it in a second considering we’ve never seen you two interact before.” Hanamakki continued from Matsukawa’s sentence.

“Have you guys tried not being afraid of him? I mean I’ve known him since we were kids, and while he may be short tempered he’s not an animal. You don’t need to “tame” him. That’s probably why he doesn’t respect you.” You explained like it was obvious, and to you it was. You didn’t understand why everyone was so scared of Kentaro.

You stayed for the rest of practice so you and Kentaro could walk home together after he was done. Occasionally throughout the practice a few people would stop and ask you a few questions about Kentaro and your friendship, asking what it’s like being friends with him, what he’s like outside of school. For some reason people were very interested in Kentaro and you figure out why.

“Your teammates are very interested in your life outside of volleyball. They kept asking me personal questions about both you and me.” You said as you walked home. He asked what you had all said to them. “I said you were the nicest person and that we trust each other with our lives and how you would quite literally sacrifice yourself for me.” You noticed Kentaro stopped walking and you turned around as he just stared you down. “I’m kidding, ’Taro calm down. I told them to buzz off and that it wasn’t their business.” You stated like it was obvious and honestly kind of offended that he even thought you’d do that.

He gave a small smile as he ran forward and tackled you putting you in a headlock and aggressively but gently messing up your hair. “That’s my girl.” He said as he released you and you smoothed out your hair, “Let’s go get takeout and rent a movie on me, I’m fucking tired after dealing with Oikawa all day at practice.”
