Yamato: I haven't slept in seventy-three hours. Gai: Eighty. Democratically elected leader of insomnia. Kakashi: Bitch, it's been ninety for me. I'm going for an even one hundred. Aoba: You guys are fucking terrifying.

Which of the minor jōnin characters who aren't senseis would be the best sensei? Genma, Hayate, Izumo, Kotetsu, Raidou, etc. I think the background jōnin are underappreciated sometimes
Well, not all of them are jonin (some are chunin), so I'm gonna add under the pretense that they either got a lucky promotion or got in trouble, so now they have to deal with the genus sjdjdjdjbd.
I've read so many fanfics starting the background Konoha nins that I sometimes forget they don't play major roles oops 🫡🫡 anyway, here it goes!!!

Since I’m back posting about Naruto again, here are some of my takes…
• Yamashiro Aoba is actually fkin hot?!? Hotter than Captain Yamato asw??? Also, Raidō is sexy as hell too.
• Sasuke still ain’t shit.
• Every single female character in the series is wasted potential. Fanfic shall remedy that.
• I’m not an Itachi hater, but not an Itachi fangirl either. I mean, he killed all those people despite knowing it was the wrong thing to do - and he didn’t even spare even a single member who may not have been involved.
Itachi loved Sasuke and his family, but what he did was fucking WRONG.
• Even now, I hate SasuSaku. So sue me.
Sakura deserves better and their relationship has no layers or decent development whatsoever in canon. Upon finding out how things were between them in Boruto, I was left wondering if she even likes herself bc she’s still with him.
• Kakashi deserved more content. I wish we’d seen more about his backstory and internal struggles so we could better understand him.

Fake Fic Title: Seven, For a Secret--Never to be Told.
— Oh shoot I forgot fake fic titles included character and themes. I was going to say Shisui for our favorite Crow adjacent character but honestly any Crow adjacent character for the counting corvids title, and theme chromatic aberration; itsv style.
SHISUI!!!! <3<3<3<3 Also, hello damnsmartblueboxes! Also, also, sorry for the late response, work truly broke me these past few days
Okay, so if we’re doing Into The Spider-verse, but Crow Edition, possible Crows either canon or fanon or AU: Shisui, Amano, Sai, Shikako (because of course there’s an AU out there for this) … oof, who are the other three?
Uzume in an AU in which neither Shisui nor Amano are around to be ANBU Crow T_T
Aoba, maybe?
Which then could do a similar Anko version in an AU in which Aoba isn’t around to be ANBU Crow—although maybe that’s too repetitive of the Uzume one. Maybe it’s just that, in a world where Konoha trusts her (maybe because she sleuths around and is integral in ripping Danzo out of his hole in the ground, thereby saving the Uchiha clan who now have way more political clout, or at the very least, are back to the clout that they had before?) Anko becomes an ANBU and she gets Crow and Aoba—because I will give up ANBU training buddies only when I’m dead—chooses to be ANBU Snake even though everyone is leery of that mask (like everyone is leery of the Fox mask)
… Or is that, maybe, too much of an offshoot/spinoff?
I mean, I always headcanon Mikoto has having been ANBU, though not usually Crow.
… BUT ALSO, in the Spider-verse there are multiples of the same person—with, obviously, Peter Parker being the most common Spiderman—so maybe just different versions of Shisui, Amano, and/or Sai and then the lone Shikako is the outlier? OR it could be that these are distinct Crows, but for the most part, each of them know who the other are—at least by reputation if nothing else—and the fact that no one has any idea who Shikako Nara is (or, bleakly, the ROOT brainwashed non-Shikako version of herself) is the Miles Morales-esque outlier part. SHE’S THE ANOMALY IN THE CROW-VERSE! (But instead of angry, its angsty O_O… or existential?)
Okay, okay, let’s get these Crows in their respective numbers according to the poem, I’m gonna do some logic puzzle nonsense:
Sorrow, Joy, Girl, Boy, Silver, Gold, Secret Never To Be Told
Obviously Shikako is a Secret Never Told. I feel like Uzume would be either Sorrow or Girl, meaning Amano would be the matching Joy or Boy because I want them to be complementary. Then Aoba, Mikoto, Shisui, Sai… let’s see… if Uzume is not Girl, then we could do Mikoto as Girl in a “young Mikoto becomes ANBU Crow because it’s the only way she can see any action because the Uchiha clan is being weirdly gross and misogynistic and are blocking her from taking any risky missions because they want her to marry Fugaku and have extremely powerful heirs with him” kind of way
And while not EXACTLY matching as nicely as Uzume and Amano, I feel like I could then explore my Aoba headcanon as a partial!Uchiha with Boy. And, boy, do I have a weirdly specific headcanon about partial!Uchiha Aoba stumbling into both the Crow summons (he reverse summoned himself!) and the Crow mask—both very Uchiha flavored inheritances—only after the Uchiha Massacre when he is an adult and 1) wouldn’t use the name, but also 2) wouldn’t be able to rub it in the face of the clan that rejected him and his non-Uchiha parent, especially if he was like… a bastard Uchiha child who was never claimed. ( @loveelemental and I had a discord brainstorming session about an Aoba centric fic in which his partial Uchiha heritage makes for a fascinating post-Jashin Sharingan activation, which is where we came up with a lot of details for this partial!Uchiha theory)
Which then leaves Silver and Gold for Shisui and Sai… which feels pretty good? I’d probably—because I’m biased—make Shisui Gold and Sai Silver because even if they are both (maybe) Uchiha, Shisui just FEELS more sun coded even though his Sharingan is “unbreakable genjutsu”, while Sai is moon coded (and also you can get into his brother Shin, the silver of his hair, the shine of moon on blades, and similes of second place and how even as Hikaku no one really wants him first and foremost the way that his brother Shin did T_T sad boy)
So I guess the fic would be these different ANBU Crows somehow interacting with each other, and honestly the easiest way to do this would be Crow!Shikako does a sort of seal space/pocket dimension/temporary mission team using the ANBU Crow mask as a cornerstone. An “I’ve gathered you all here because we all need to murder our respective Danzos, and together we can all help each other do that. Also, imagine the satisfaction of killing Danzo seven times… or more, if he already has Izanagi”
Another way is a more contemplative/abstract “echoes/ghosts of possible timelines” thing in which, again, the ANBU Crow mask is, like, a liminal space. But wearable. Haunted or cursed? And to make it even more angsty the echoes/ghosts only appear when you’re about to die… which, to be fair, ANBU, probably pretty often?
I guess what my brain is trying to do is more of a multi-versal Sense8 than an Into The Spider-verse thing… hm… I don’t hate it at all… it could be fun to puzzle out some more…
... I also realized, for all that I was very excited about your Shisui mention, I literally mentioned him the least, lolol
Anyway, I hope this makes sense and is interesting to you, damnsmartblueboxes :D

Yamato: That was so horrible, Aoba is never gonna talk to me again
Gai: It's not a big deal, Yamato. I've seen Kakashi’s dick, like, a million times
Yamato: You have? I mean...how?
Gai: We grew up together. Changing rooms, missions, penis fights...it just happens, and now we’re together.
Yamato: Why haven't I seen it?
Gai: Why do you want to see it?
Yamato: He's my best friend!
Gai: Again, why do you want to see it?
Yamato: What if senpai gets into an accident? What if he's horribly disfigured, and I have to identify him, and all that remains are his private parts? And I'm standing there and I'm saying, “Sorry, officer, I can't help you, because no, I haven't seen his penis.” And then boom, he's buried in an unmarked grave!
Gai: …
Gai: Again, why do you want to see it?
Yamato: We’re best friends!

Day 2: Family, Friends, Loved Ones
Genma swirled around in a swift motion, almost slashing Raidou with the knife he was holding. Raidou barely dodged him and threw his hands in the air. “I surrender!”, he said, laughing at Genma’s horrified expression. Before he could even blink, Genma had already dropped the knife and nearly tackled him.
“I’m so sorry,” he gasped while checking Raidou’s chest for cuts.
Raidou grabbed his hands and smiled at him. “No worries, you missed me. How’s the preparation going?”
With a relieved sigh, Genma let go of him and turned to face the kitchen isle on their left. When his gaze fell on the cutting board, his expression soured. “Who would have thought that potatoes are so hard to peel?”
This seemed to remind him of something and he started searching the floor for the potato that had flown through the air only a second before Genma nearly stabbed Raidou while trying to catch it. Raidou smiled to himself and knelt down where the fugitive potato was hiding under the kitchen isle. When he presented the culprit to Genma on his open palm, Genma gave him a kiss on the cheek.
“Thanks,” he sighed, took the potato and rinsed it in the sink to get rid of any potential contamination. “I wish I hadn’t volunteered for making potato salad.”
Raidou grinned and stepped next to him. Softly, he pushed Genma aside. “I’ll do it,” he said indulgently. Genma resisted for only one second, before he smiled in relief.
“You’re my hero,” he said and gave Raidou another peck on the cheek. “While you tackle the potato salad, I’ll start the yakitori.”
But before he could even move a muscle, a piercing sound made them both jump. Genma stared at Raidou wide-eyed before he slowly said, “Really, Raidou? That’s the new bell you chose?”
Raidou’s ears still rang and he flashed Genma a sheepish smile. “Guilty. I’ll get it.”
Genma’s quiet laugh followed him while he scurried to the door, intensely hoping that the person outside wouldn’t ring the bell again. He tore open the door so suddenly that the person behind it stumbled backwards in surprise, almost knocking over the other two people behind them.
“Whoa, slow there,” Gai hollered while trying to regain balance of the giant bowl in his hands. Only Aoba’s quick reaction kept the bowl from falling. Ebisu fixed his glasses with an unfazed gesture, but his shaky hand betrayed him.
Raidou apologized and invited them in with a welcoming smile. All three of them removed their shoes and followed him inside.
While Ebisu and Aoba stopped to admire the two gigantic baskets and the three colorful blankets laying on a living room table, Gai marched straight into the kitchen where Genma still bustled about.
“So, who’s ready to celebrate the start of autumn?” Gai roared. “Looks like you haven’t even started, champ!” While Raidou couldn’t make out Genma’s answer, he still heard the laugh in his voice when he gave Gai a sassy reply. He turned to Ebisu and Aoba, eyeing the bowls and bags in their hands curiously.
“Do you want to put those into the basket?” he asked. “You might need a free hand.”
And while Ebisu followed suit, Aoba grinned at him. “Let me guess … you need our help carrying all this stuff?”
“Guilty,” Raidou replied for the second time this day.
Raidou and Aoba were the last to arrive at the park. They had almost been halfway there when Genma realized that they had forgotten the drinks at home – and because Raidou had never been able to say no to Genma’s puppy eyes, he and Aoba had returned home to get the drinks. Now, they each carried more bottles than one could reasonably carry but somehow, the prospect of seeing Genma’s face lighting up made it possible.
When they finally reached the spot where their friends had settled down, Raidou was surprised to see that two guests were still missing. Genma, Gai and Ebisu had done a good job in the meantime though. They had shoved aside the red and brown leaves and piled them up around the small clearing. Between the piles they had spread the three blankets, the two giant picnic baskets set up on each side. While Ebisu and Gai were piling up more leaves, Genma knelt on the blanket and worked on setting up the picnic itself, a concentrated look on his face.
“We’re back,” Aoba called out to him and Genma looked up at them. He broke into a big smile and Raidou’s belly started tingling when Genma’s gaze fell on him.
“This is the second time you’re saving the day, Raidou,” Genma said softly. “Thank you, guys!”
He motioned for them to put down the bottles next to the feast and Raidou and Aoba did as he asked. “Weren’t Shizune and your sister supposed to come as well?” Aoba asked while they carefully positioned the bottles so they wouldn’t fall over.
Raidou nodded. A sudden gust of wind made his hair stand on end and he gave the sky a suspicious look. Grey clouds formed on the horizon, threatening to veil the sun. “They’ll show up at some point,” he replied to Aoba. “It’s not rare for Yukiko to arrive a bit late.”
Aoba grinned at him. “Little sisters, huh? Always putting on a show. But Shizune is not the type to be late, is she?”
Raidou paused and thought about it before slowly shaking his head. “You’re right,” he said pensively. But then his gaze fell on Genma who was now carefully arranging several bowls with salads and other dishes and he shrugged.
As if he felt Raidou’s glance, Genma looked up and smiled. “Picnic’s ready,” he called out.
Behind him, Raidou heard an excited squeal and Gai stormed past them just to flop down on the picnic blanket next to Genma. Ebisu followed gracefully behind and Raidou had to hurry to snatch the spot on Genma’s other side. While the others sat down, he secretly took Genma’s hand and squeezed it lovingly. “This looks wonderful. You’ve outdone yourself, Genma,” he whispered to him and his face turned warm when Genma gave him a tender smile.
And just in that moment, the first droplet of rain hit the back of his neck. Raidou flinched when the ice-cold water touched his skin. “Oh no,” he muttered and when he turned his face to the sky, the gray clouds were almost directly above him.
“What’s the matter?” Gai asked and followed his gaze. He gave the sky a defiant stare. “Oh, come on, Raidou. A little bit of rain won’t hurt us!”
At this point, all of them had paused and gave the gray clouds critical looks. Genma scrunched up his nose. “It won’t hurt us but I don’t think rainwater works as an ingredient for most of these dishes.”
Gai made a dismissive gesture. “It surely won’t rain,” he said confidently.
As if to prove him wrong in the most dramatic way possible, the gray clouds turned even darker – and with another gust of wind, it started pouring. In a small chaos, all of them struggled to their feet.
“Save the food,” Genma called out and Raidou and he started covering the dishes with whatever they could grab.
“You shouldn’t have said that, Gai,” Ebisu scolded him.
Aoba’s call was almost drowned out by the sound of the rain but after a second, Raidou’s brain registered what he had yelled. His head shot up and he stared into the direction Aoba pointed at. And Aoba was right, at the entrance of the park, two figures had appeared.
“Yukiko?” Raidou asked incredulously when he spotted the familiar grin of his little sister from behind a big, long object. “And … Shizune?”
Genma paused and the others also froze while the rain kept on getting worse. It took Raidou longer than he cared to admit to recognize the bulky objects the two women were carrying.
Yukiko’s grin was bigger than the sun when they finally arrived at their spot. “Care for some rain protection?” she said with a smirk, handing him the enormous umbrella that she had carried. Shizune carried an even bigger specimen and started setting it up without wasting time to greet anyone. And while Raidou, Genma and their friends still sat there baffled, Shizune and Yukiko singlehandedly set up the big umbrellas.
It was Genma who broke the silence. He looked down at the now saved picnic and then back up at Raidou. And with an ever-brightening smile he said, “I’m sorry, Raidou, but … I think, Shizune and Yukiko are the real heroes of the day!”

(Just a fic excerpt I wanted to share -)
Shizune stood beside her, back turned towards him. He shifted slightly, Reiko’s profile coming into view.
Her choppy, shoulder-length copper hair blew behind her in the wind as she stood motionless, squinting into the sun. The freckles on her nose scrunched with the motion as her amber eyes narrowed. Small, golden daisy-shaped studs sparkled in her ears - the pair he’d gifted her last summer.
Those eyes remained trained upon the horizon, her mouth set in a grim line. Her hands were now fisted in the skirts of her white cotton dress. The hem stopped mid-thigh, rendering the pale, jagged scar till the top of her knee visible.
She’d become thinner. Her cheeks were hollower, the bones of her wrists more prominent. In the afternoon light, she appeared wan, almost sallow. However, her pallor belied the strength she still possessed - it was evident in her ramrod-straight spine, evident in how her shoulders were squared.
