ShinDeku - Timer AU with Background IiYama?

Teenagers don't typically meet their soulmates. It's usually when you're an adult that the timers will go off. After all, the possibility you'd meet your one true love as a teenager was highly improbable.

There were outliers, such as Iida meeting his the day of the entrance exams. It actually caused enough of a fuss they postponed the exams for their group for the next day. Which was good for Izuku as he struggled to control his new Quirk. The extra day, plus a talk with his mom and All Might, got him able to use it without hurting himself to badly.

Izuku actually made friends with the two, and they were both really nice. More so Aoyama, Iida's soulmate, turned out to have been very happy to have met Iida so soon. Izuku didn't learn why, but apparently it helped them out a lot.

Izuku didn't expect to be another outlier for soulmates. At least not until the day of the sports festival where his timer went off along another student's. It delayed the start for a minute or two as Izuku got jostled over to his soulmate.

"Uh... hi!" Izuku squeaked upon looking at the purple-haired teen.

"...Hi," his soulmate said. "...You're the kid with the late blooming Quirk."

"Uh yeah," Izuku shrugged. He made some news thanks to his mom insisting he go to a doctor after using One for All and breaking his fingers.

"... Get a lot of shit for being thought Quirkless?" his soulmate asked.

"Yeah." Izuku agreed.

"...Wanna prove all your old bullies wrong?" his soulmate asked, teeth bared. Izuku grinned right back.

He had a feeling this would go very well.

MHA 400 leak reactions

Everyone was hyped for 400, so Hori gave us boob jokes to open the chapter (just like how he ended 100 with a boob joke). Love it.

But really, Hagakure becoming visible as she helps Aoyama be a true hero is SO fitting with Toshi’s emergence as a hero (and Stain’s!!). Hori is so damn literal sometimes and I cannot get enough.

Haha, Toshi learning from Star and her mistakes! Another “student” of his, in a way. Makes me wonder if he does have other quirks/ideas in his back pocket. Yes yes, I know everyone thinks explosion is “the one” he hasn’t used, but just like AFO, we don’t actually know what Toshi has stored up in that suit (or what’s in Stain’s glider).

I tend to think explosion will be an internal/external finishing move to “burst” the AFO quirk out of any and all physical bodies.

Love how we all knew the laser at the end of the last chapter wasn’t a suicide shot. Of course All Might had a shield.

I’m screaming at the idea that AFO, obsessed with quirks and DNA and legacy and lineage, either stole or manufactured the glowing baby quirk to better manipulate every quirk that sprang forth from it. AFO is still dangerous even as a child because he has all his quirks and memories, and he may have more ability to manipulate than we’re led to believe.

TOSHI SAYING YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE FOR THE HEAD LIKE MCU THANOS?!?!?? Wow, Hori is giving Toshi even MORE villain tropes.

AFO is reduced to a glowing child —an angelic cherub — while Toshi is this broken old man that looks like a villain hellbent on revenge. Then Stain (an actual serial killer) appears, paralyzes AFO, and tells Toshi to win. Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys???

The question is, will Toshi go for the kill? (Will Stain do it if Toshi won’t?) Toshi did go for the head in their first battle, after AFO pulled out his innards. But in Kamino, Toshi expressly rejected the notion that he would kill AFO (again). I don’t see Toshi doing it here either, especially since he referenced learning from Star, and trying to kill Shigaraki did nothing for Star. I think Toshi will try to keep AFO paralyzed/immobile and let AFO rewind himself out of existence, which AFO will see as a weakness to exploit.

There’s also still a vestige battle and Aizawa/Mic/Kurogiri out there, so Toshi and Stain might not be able keep AFO pinned.

That said, I’m very amused by the idea of Deku and Shigaraki slugging it out when a naked glowing toddler runs towards them.

He grew up quirkless, and with no great ambition other than to be kind. He gave his food to a skeletal man he met on the beach one day. They became friends, and eventually, the man revealed he was truly All Might, the number one hero. He was chosen as his successor, and now he had a motivation, to do as much good as possible by becoming the next symbol of peace. Through kindness, anything is possible.

Shoto Todoroki - Tape

The pro hero Endeavor was trying to create the perfect successor. And sometimes, a kid with a perfect split of white and red hair develops a totally unique quirk through a strange mutation. He can create tape. And shoot it from his elbows.

Toru Hakagure - Dupliarms

She's a totally normal girl! With six arms. That she can grow extra body parts on. She just wishes there was a cute guy out there with a thing for weird arms.

Katsuki Bakugou - Tail

He's determined to be the greatest. He may be pretty normal aside from a powerful prehensile tail, but that thing is a constant lashing force of destruction under the force of his rage.

Izuku Midoriya - Sugar Rush

When he was a kid, eating sugar would make him absolutely bonkers. His mother cut it out of his diet, but turns out his quirk transforms sugar into the motherlode of all rushes, granting him superhuman speed and strength. Only, afterwards, his body totally gives out.

Hitoshi Shinso - Engine

He's got engines in his legs. He's a speedster but never really figured out how to use his quirk for combat, so didn't manage to make it into the hero course. He wants to prove himself though, and worked hard for this transfer.

Momo Yaoyorozu - Electrification

She is a top-level student, her intellect is her pride. Unfortunately, if she uses her quirk too much, that prized intelligence is shocked away to nothing as her IQ drops tremendously until she recovers.

Tokyo mew mew mew really fix the issue from the original show of ichigo being obsess with romance and I’m glad they kept her wanting romance in TMMN because it show you can still have goals and want romance. It even help make her stronger. Now whenever I hear people talking about how they’re removing romance because it make the character weak, I look at ichigo cause she defy that odd

Her character arc in TMMNew was that she was unsure of what she wanted to do or be in the future, and despite her initial struggles with suddenly becoming a bio-weapon and having such a huge responsibility thrusted upon her, she still made it work and now has found a reason to keep on moving with life, not just with Aoyama, but also with her colleagues and friends.

Ichigo has matured quite a lot, and I'm proud of her. Ikumi-sensei's work and legacy clearly weren't wasted, and I am so relieved that things went alright.

You seein' that, Miss Rachel Zegler? Young women can be ambitious and brave AND still want romance.

Later in the day, the sun was still shining in Aoyama as Tomi had returned back to the Chōten estate to change clothes and hopefully catch a short respite from the number of birthday galas and soirées in his honor that he had to attend, it wasn’t even nightfall and the socialite was already exhausted. It was just the exact same thing over and over and if it didn’t cost him his reputation and family legacy, Tomi would have long since told the people who were clearly trying to mooch off him to fuck off. But of course, he couldn’t and so the cycle continues…

But enough of that, right now Tomi opened the door to his room with the intention to shower and switch into a new outfit before going back out and attending more parties dedicated to him. At least that was the plan before he stopped short when he noticed a medium sized black and gold colored present sitting prettily on his bed which made the socialite immediately raised an eyebrow, skeptical. Hino said nothing about any gifts when he came back and as sad as it was, he doubt his parents would make much an effort to get him something if it didn’t involve them bragging about it to their peers.

Stepping closer to the gift, he looked around it to see if there was any sort of card or letter from the sender but there was unfortunately nothing. Sighing, Tomi knew that he didn’t have time to play guess who with the present and decided to move it himself, he could always see who sent it later if he didn’t forget. That was his biggest mistake.

As soon as he held the box in his hand, it was as if a timer had gone off and poor Tomi didn’t have the chance to process anything before his world became a whirlwind of sparkles.

It had taken Tomi a minute to process what had just happened and become aware of how he was now on the floor, a loud ringing in his ears, a dull pain in the back of his head, and absolutely covered in glitter and some foul smelling slime that climbed to him. He slowly sat up, discombobulated and looked around before his eyes settled on the so called “gift” in front of him, as if adding insult to injury, it started playing a music box version of “pop goes the weasel” and much like a Jack-in-the-box, a giant, sparkly middle finger popped out of the box and a distorted voice sang the last chorus of the song.

As the 'bang' went off, Hino, who had just been outside the young master's room, betrayed proper decorum and hastily opened the door. In all his years as a butler, he had come across many things. He had been with the Chōten family for a large amount of time and had borne witness to a number of strange occurrences, both inside and outside of the family mansion.

...But even he was not prepared to see the Young Master Tomi, lying on his bedroom floor covered in what appeared to be glitter and slime. To make matters worse, it seemed to cover the majority of his room. From his carpet, to his bed, to his dressers, to the ceiling, to everything. The old butler looked at what might have caused this wild and strange thing to happen. His perceptive eyes caught hold of the small box and gold box, which now displayed a giant middle finger made out of glitter.

Tomi, meanwhile, was still staring at the ceiling, wondering what the heck just happened. As his senses slowly came back to him, he sat up and looked at the "present" that was bestowed upon him. He stared at it for a couple of seconds, his eyes wide as he was feeling a multitude of emotions right now. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Hino-san, staring at him in awe and shock. Neither said a word for a while until Hino opened his mouth to speak.

"...Young Master?"

"...Hino-san..." Tomi said, his voice dangerously low as he was no doubt having trouble controlling himself.

"Yes, Young Master?"

"...Have the servants prepare me a bath immediately. And then have them clean up this mess."

"Yes, Young Master," Hino said, bowing.

"And after you've done that, call the Tokyo Police Department and have them arrest that rotten miscreant from Shinagawa at once. And after they've done that, have them throw her in the deepest, darkest cell that they can possibly find so I can never see her or think of her again!"

"...I will see to it immediately, Young Master," Hino said, bowing once more before preparing to leave.

"One last thing, Hino-san," Tomi said, stopping the old butler.

"Yes, Young Master?"

The old butler then looked as the young socialite pointed to his "present".

"Get this horrid thing out of my sight at once!"

So this is a question that recently popped into my head.

If you could give OFA to any of the other 1-A kids, who would it be?

For me, I would go for Eijirou, Shoji, or Aoyama.

For Eijirou, I feel him gaining OFA would do wonders for him in terms of character and expanding his views on what makes something manly.

For Shoji, I always wondered what OFA would be like if it was in the hands of a user with a mutant quirk. Plus he has the necessary muscle capacity to use it and would probably be a close choice.

As for Aoyama, I feel if his parents never made the deal with AFO, I could see an AU where Aoyama proved himself to have hero potential and impress All Might to be given OFA. A glittery boy with the courage to make a difference.

Those are such interesting ideas! I agree that Eijiro, Shoji, and Aoyama would make interesting choices for OFA Successors.

If I were to give OFA to anyone other than Izuku in Class 1A, it would be either:

Aoyama (for reasons you already mentioned)

Todoroki Shoto - because this truly divorces him from his father's legacy while still being a hero. It also gives him a defacto good father figure in the form of All Might, which I feel like he needs.

Yaoyorozu Momo - because her character design is reminiscent of Nana Shimura, and it would be interesting to see how being an OFA user would help her confidence and how she would bond with AM. (Plus, canonically, the OFA users are full of guys bar Nana it would be nice to have another girl be an OFA user.)

For TBYS, Aizawa can be written in any number of ways, but one of things that he could be is that of a closeted Quirkest, where it is not that he discriminates against weak quirks, but that he discriminates those strong quicks but too weak in spirit or mind to be trained. This is why is approves of Bakugo but not of Izuku. Arguably, since he was forbidden to expel any of his students, Aoyama, Denki and Sato could've been expelled later. He's a drill sergeant who wants premade heroes, not newbs.

The thing is, this is completely plausible. Not admittedly how I intend to do it, but it's a way I could do it. I do think his very real issue is he doesn't want to have to deal with someone who has to start from the ground up, which is idiotic when you remember he's a First Year teacher. If he was a Second or Third I'd view it as excusable, but not as a First Year teacher.

Fun fact btw; I do think Aizawa was told he wasn't allowed to expel anyone this year due to who his students were. Like if nothing else, he's got two (openly) legacy students, one of whose father would definitely raise a stink over the expulsion 'logical ruse', a wealthy heiress (again, potential backlash from her parents), and All Might's successor (Nedzu doesn't need to risk pissing All Might off). We've no real sign that his prior years had any students with comparable issues (most of the Top Ten don't seem to have kids of age to attend UA excluding AM [in theory] and Endeavor).

Since let's be real; are you really going to tell me that the prior years were somehow taking shit much less seriously than 1-A that very first day?

MHA 399 - Things we need to talk about more

The whole chapter, All Might is biding time while Anima fetches a massive external power source to fuel the laser beam. Meanwhile, AFO monologues smugly about conserving his power. Unlike Kamino, where All Might was the one trying desperately to conserve (quirk) power, All Might now has MANY options for power sources and it’s AFO who is scrambling to hold on.

AFO. IS. CRACKING?!?!?!? Look at his face!!!

The Spanish version references All Might’s “light” less as a “guiding light” for citizens that will be “snuffed out,” and instead says, “his divine light will disappear.” AFO isn’t making a mere death threat, he’s talking about legacy and telling All Might that his will not be remembered as a Symbol of Peace, but a Symbol of Impotence. The accomplishments that made “All Might” god-like will disappear in light of (haha) his poor showing.

The Spanish version also has All Might being more direct, saying “So I will illuminate the darkness so I can twinkle again” vs the more passive “Let there be light in the darkness so that I might twinkle as well.”

The ending panel LOOKS like All Might intentionally shot AFO and himself with the high powered laser beam. It LOOKS like he used himself as bait and sacrificed himself to “burn” AFO (which is funny because AFO has already been burnt to a crisp by Endeavor in this arc. I mean, just when Enji gets to surpass All Might by nearly killing AFO, Toshi’s comin’ in hot with his own navel laser-powered prominence burn). IMO Hagakure’s refraction is the key here (also the way she says, “took you long enough, hero!” and she’s talking to Aoyama but also Toshi). I’m certain Toshi has some kind of shield to refract the blast away from himself, so his actions will reflect the dream he’s pursuing. (Or he could have a safety blanket like the one Momo made at USJ to protect the heroes from Kaminari’s blast.

Remember in the provisional exam, Aoyama was going to sacrifice himself to help Iida pass. But too many others from 1A showed up too quickly to help fend off attackers, and in the end Aoyama and Iida secured the last 2 passing spots.

Easter egg 1: I think this tiny image in the final panel I s Hercules (or what’s left of Hercules?) You can’t see this car at all in the English version but you can in others.

Easter egg 2: The building sign here sure looks like it says “gusoku hero,” which is hilarious because gusoku means “armor!”

So I had a random Batfam AU thought, but I don't recall if it has been established that there is or is not any other Trinity legacy counter parts other than Izuku as part of his generation of hero trainees in Japan. If it would work for that but hasn't been established, might I propose one of 2 options for someone being of Kryptonian ancestry:

Yuga Aoyama could have Karen Starr/Power Girl has his mother.

The Yaoyorozu family, after having issues producing an heir, take a page out of Cadmus and Lex Luthor's play book and produce Momo. She has no clue about this and just assumes she stockpiles solar energy to produce her creations rather than the lipids that other members of her family have needed.

I had not mentioned any potential trinity counterparts other than Midoriya

the AU entitled 'our hero academia'! it takes place 30 years after the events of MHA, where most of the main cast is in their mid 40s. it'll cover the next generation, including their children and themselves as the world shifts and changes around them. it's admittedly still a little here and there only because i haven't caught up on MHA yet and the series hasn't finished!

our MC, midoriya kimiko, the only daughter of pro heroes thermo + deku (midoriya shoto and izuku respectively). born with a weak quirk, she's primarily grown up in musutafu with her parents. with the media's eyes on her since day one, she's been scrutinized and criticized for her almost lack of quirk.

however she's never alone, with kirishima makoto by her side, who's three days older than she is, the younger sister to the quirkless kirishima takato, and the daughter of dynamight and red riot (kirishima katsuki and eijiro respectively). they're the best of friends since they were babies, and they apply to UA after a disastrous school trip that leads to kimiko manifesting brand new and all powerful parts of her quirk.

the pair make acquaintances with other legacy students, including two parts of the new big three, iida ryosei (with iida tenya and ochako as parents) and ojiro reiko (with ojiro mashirao and toru). class 1-a is made up of tokoyami rin (daughter to tokoyami fumikage and tsuyu), sero haruko (son to ashido mina and sero hanta), tetsutetsu daisuke (son to tetsutetsu tetsutetsu and itsuka), yaoyorozu seiji (son to yaoyorozu momo, jiro kyoka and kaminari denki), shinso yuto (son to shinso hitoshi and neito) and aoyama elle (daughter to aoyama yuga and monica). taught by yamada aiko, the daughter to yamada hizashi and aizawa shota -- the new generation of 1-a is facing everything from exams, new and old relationships, and the consequences of a quirk heavy society all coming down on their young shoulders.

with the clock ticking on an organization determined to make it known just how poorly society treats them, the commission coming down hard on the heroes it claims to help, and villains on the rise, it's a matter of time before we see the next generation rising to the occasion.

other fun facts!

kimiko and mako's arc concerns kimiko's lack of emotional boundaries with mako, who eventually steamrolls over them as they grow up together. chaos ensues with the development of the embers of OFA.

haruko's arc concerns his disdain for teamwork and how he only ever wants to work by himself because he thinks that's how a hero should be -- only able to rely on themselves.

rin's arc concerns her learning to be more confident in herself as a hero. she's good at many things, but worries about being a good enough heroine to save people

yuto and elle's arc are concerned with the latter discovering herself properly, as she is whether people pay attention to her or not -- while yuto learns its okay to need other people and want to be there for them.

seiji's arc is all about learning how to accept the pitfalls of himself and recognize his own strengths for what they are.

daisuke's arc is all about defining himself, instead of being what people need him to be at any given time.

moriko's arc is currently about learning to atone for past behaviors, regardless of her situation when she was younger (there's a notable line floating around where she says to kimiko, "no, midoriya, maybe the problem was that i wasn't yelled at enough.")

iwao's arc is all about him being less afraid of his quirk. rin and his overlap a little, but he has to learn to not be scared of the possibilities, and embrace them as they come.

aiko's covers her really facing what happened almost twenty years ago (the death of a classmate in her final year at UA, she blames herself) and the ramifications of running away when she was so young and scared.

eri's covers her own history with the shie hassaikai and unravelling her past the best she can. eri is very much a 'im 36 and have been to therapy' sort of character in oha, but it is acknowledged that she still has scars from all those years ago.

for now, chisaki gou (the son of chisaki kai and an unnamed woman) and takami hitomi (the daughter of takami keigo and todoroki touya [though he's gone by a different name since years before she was born]) share an arc as both spiral towards self-destruction. hitomi just wants to do what she can against a corrupt comission and gou knows this is basically his only purpose, as far as he knows.

other characters, such as the other children of 1-a and 1-b are largely unfleshed out for now. iida misato (the daughter of iida tensei and fuyumi) is the current english teacher to the heroics course, kirishima takato is the comic relief most of the time, and three unnamed miritama kids are pretty close to joining the cast.

[also idk if it has to be said because i am adapting this from a pretty old work of mine, i imagine so far into the future everyone has ways of having children biologically. none of the characters in oha are trans, but their kids are theirs and thats all that matters <3. just means i handwaved away some stuff.]
