here we go again

It's day 2! Yesterday I got all the work i needed to do done + more - I remediated some trig hw that I did incorrectly. I also noticed it was completely unrealistic to finish all my bio work so I went and begged my teacher to let me reschedule it for after the break. (he said yes!! all is well)

to-do:

a) finish more bio missing work (i'm thinking 1 notes 1 lab report) b) answer APG critical thinking questions to prep for test tmrw c) go through my APG unit flashcards bc there's so much terminology this unit d) finish my APF transcription of the conversation we did e) I want to re-do one of my PIQs, but that's optional upcoming:

a) APG test TOMORROW b) trig test in 1 day c) thanksgiving break :) I also practiced cello today during our tutorial because I was already in the music hall to tutor a younger student. Today was actually really nice despite being a little sick (PRAYING it does not develop overnight)

It’s the 1500’s. The French monarchy is desperately trying to keep themselves and the Catholic Church superior to the Protestant faith, specifically the Huguenots. King Henry II of France (Orion) dies unexpectedly, leaving the throne to an eleven year old Henry III (Regulus), after the death of his brother. Too young to take the throne, Catherine de Medici (Walburga) takes over the throne and commits a LOT of violent crimes. The other brother, the Duke of Aleçnon (Sirius) abandons the whole monarchy and joins a group of Protestant Rebels called The Malcontents (tell me that isn’t the closest thing to Marauders you have EVER HEARD). Part of this group is Henry of Navarre (James) a protestant aristocrat attempting to take the throne and promote religious freedom. They call him the Good King Henry (something that SCREAMS James Potter).

language learning revelation i had

#me understanding 5 words in a 20 minute podcast episode: :D :D :D :D #me understanding enough of a podcast episode to be super aware of every word i dont know: :( :( :( :( :( #this is why the b1-b2 plateau is a thing #youre like in the 25-75% range there i think #which is THE MOST ANNOYING #with french i think ive just passed 75 so its fun again #im at like 80 i think #with arabic im at like 1 so its suuuper fun #it's avictory if i can figure out the TOPIC of ap odcast episode #bc like i cant read the titles fhkjghjgkhg #with french i could at least tell the topic from the title but i cant read the titles #so when i figure out what theyre talking about it's like holy shit #and i get like 20 minutes to try and do that #tunisian ones are fun bc they put in a lot of french words #so those are fairly easy to figure out #but also means i catch more and im doing 2 langauges at once so it doesnt take away from the fun #i explained to my dad yesterday my method of just listening to podcasts and trying to understand Anything. ANything At All #and he was like you have a lot of patience #but honestly i think it's the best way to learn #when you really want to know what something is saying and you have no other way to find out but to listen or read it #and like. figure it out #its my favourite way #and at the end the graph flattens out bc like it gets boring again right #this is why we start learning new languages when we plateau #bc we miss the fun

yeah why not seems kinda fun -> (optional step) the writing system is crazy bro -> damn theres no WAY im gonna remember any of this shit -> genuine interest and fascination with the differences between languages and needing to Know more

and its because of the stupidest reason for starting learning it in the first place

#me personally i only started french because i didnt want to do spanish or german #and we had to take a language #now look at me. ap student gonna take the exam in less than two months #did one course for asl because i needed to fill a credit and it seemed easy enough to do online #and i was so interested by deaf culture and i was having sm fun with learning signs #but i never continued it for?? some reason?? #i didnt take japanese any further than hiragana and some katakana but it was fun learning the writing system #not that i remember more than maybe 30% of it #and now im trying to learn ukrainian on duolingo and other outside sources #partially just bc i was curious #but now im like. very entranced by it #i have a google doc vocab list and everything #its very fun for me :) even if i dont use it in everyday life and if i drop it after a week #its also so fun to speak #I NEED TO. Things happening on qsmp and fans reminds me of that time dream had another brilliant idea of asking for speculative work for his icon and I said that it wasn't normal or okay and I had this discussion with an American person and at some point, they went "well when we want to enter a school we have to pay for the test to enter. are you saying this isn't normal" like a gotcha but like? yeah?? that's not ok?

In France, having to pay to pass a test to enter a school isn't illegal but your teachers will warn you: this is a sign of a scam. the scam being that the school actually sucks and is just trying to get as much money as fast as possible before eventually closing down due to being bad.

And I'm saying that because qsmp fans on twitter are doing their best to defend doing nothing to fix the situation. (The situation being free work by the way. And unsigned contracts. And abusive clauses.) And invoking things such as "oh the union that wants to take this to court are illegal" and things that appear to be normal in USA. And like, ok, listen I don't know a lot about how your country works but please question it!

You may not realize it but your worker's rights suck so much that you think a union fighting for worker's rights to be respected has to be illegal or nefarious??
