"Division of territories", day 16 of @propagandistisk's hetalia goretober 2023 ✨
This is of course a reference to the wars between Scandi bros in the 1600s; more specifically the outcome of the wars predating the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658. The Treaty of Roskilde saw the entirety of Trøndelag (central Norway) given up to Sweden, and the region would be Swedish for two years until Trøndelag became Norwegian again in 1660 after another treaty. The treatment of trøndere during these two years has been referred to as the genocide of Trøndelag by local historians due to the large prescription of trøndish men to the Swedish army. It almost emptied the region of men overall and the large farmland region suffered greatly as many of the men were already overseas and fighting in the Danish-Norwegian army. The trøndish men in the Swedish army were then sent abroad to fight wars as the Swedish King was afraid they would rebel if left close to home. Only one third of the men would return to their homes, which by then would be plagued by famine.
The Swedes wanted Trøndelag because then they would effectively divide Norway into two parts, separated at the middle, and easier to attack in the future.

I am not very keen on "sufin", though I sometimes need to romanticize their relationships and make a doodle.

Ooo what was that one hc you forgot to mention?👀
Ahah! It’s a funny one!! (And it’s inspired by something that actually happened to me)
I imagine both Denmark and Sweden to be really bad snorers. Like… really bad. I can totally see them in a scenario where all three are in a situation where theyre out somewhere on holiday and they’re staying in like a little pod thing which doesn’t have rooms. It’s all crammed together. Three beds, ones a bunk bed.
Sweden falls asleep, and Denmark starts moaning and wining bc he can’t sleep with Sweden snoring.
Denmark eventually does fall asleep, but his snoring wakes up sweden, who then starts muttering things under his breath about how he can’t sleep because of den snoring.
Sve falls asleep again eventually which wakes denmark up. And it’s a vicious cycle that keeps on repeating.
Poor Norway doesn’t even get a wink of sleep bc of them both. 🙃

haiii idk why im posting to here all of a sudden but like yeah i drew hetalia norway my (technically my hws philippines oc’s) pookie since middle school n i havent drawn him in a while so yass (i rarely draw europe in general)
Also i forgot to mention that i tagged this as “oc” because i lowkey consider my interpretation of norway to be ALMOST an oc 🥲 he retains a lot of canon but i feel like i just altered him so much to the point where he could exist as a separate character if i wanted it that way

Hello professor , I was wondering how to understand the ship of Kalmarunionen in a history kinda way. I really wanna know your interpretation and view about the relationship between Norway,Denmark and Sweden.
Don't think I've ever gotten a question about the Kalmar Union before! 🤩 I think a very big decider of their relationship is the very events of the Kalmar Union, so I kind of focused solely on this here. It is important to understand their beginnings; where they come from.
A short time line of events:
1319: Norway and Sweden get the same King (debatable)
1348: The Black Plague comes to Norway
1380: Norway and Denmark get the same King
1397: The Kalmar Union is formed
1412: The Queen dies
1430s: Swedish rebellions
1448-1457: Disagreements about an heir after the King dies without children
1523: Sweden leaves the Kalmar Union
1536: Denmark declares Norway a Danish province
The Kalmar Union was established as a way to strengthen Northern Europe against the influence of the German Hanseatic Leauge, and when these disappeared in the 1500s, so did the reason for keeping the union together. Sweden was always sceptical to the union and mainly joined so that the German states would not become too influencial, because even though parts of him were under Norwegian rule, he still wanted to be independant. In 1448 Sweden elected a Swedish ruler over the Union and Norway followed suit, but Denmark was already too influencial and when they picked a Danish ruler, Norway soon followed.
Denmark then begun to pick fights with the continent, something that was bad for Sweden as they exported a lot of iron to the continent and depended on that. At the same time, the power in the union became centralised to Copenhagen, with Denmark deciding everything. Sweden refused to go along with this.
After Sweden left, Denmark declared Norway a Danish province, stripped him of his national council without having a say. The only reason Denmark kept Norway's title as a Kingdom was because of Norway's inheritance system - something that was used to make Norwegian heirs Danish Kings. Norway got to keep its own legal system, but became integrated into the state Denmark-Norway with its capital in Copenhagen.
It is thought that the Black Plauge hit Norway a lot harder than Sweden and Denmark - something that crippled Norway's influence on the course the union took. This is also where all the disagreements between Denmark and Sweden begins; Denmark taking advantage of the other two, and then Sweden leaving Norway behind to become used by Denmark.

Poll ! Oldest Viking Trio Member
Also, to clarify:
Nor - Norway, Den - Denmark, Swe - Sweden. .
Keep in mind there's no real right/wrong. Godness know Hetalia timeline is a mess anyway, and fandom with "fanon" even more so. xD
Seriously though, just go with whatever option you vibe with/think/feel the most. ♥
.
[ Additionally: Please reblog to make sure we get a bigger sample size. I'm really curious what option you all will go for]. OwO

hey! Same person who asked for some norway hcs the other day! I was wondering if you have any viking trio hcs? :) we need more content of them😔
You are absolutely right! Unfortunately, this made me realise I myself don’t focus on them enough either 😅 at least, not as a trio I don’t. But I’ll see what I can do!!
I personally don’t see them as related (though that’s not really culturally accurate at all). But I think they have a brotherly bond. They might not be bothers, but they see each other and such.
Speaking of which, these boys bully one another 24/7. Sometimes over the silliest things. But they absolutely adore one another at the end of the day and will not hesitate to physically injure someone who dare say anything bad about one of their “brothers”
On the subject of brothers, I don’t know if I still like this headcanon, but I know at one point I liked the idea that they were “blood brothers”, they took a blood oath back in the viking age. They’ve all ended up betraying it at some point tho (Denmark and Sweden especially).
Denmark was the one who taught Norway how to read and write in the Latin script. Nor was just kinda a stubborn bitch once runes fell out of use and refused to learn the Latin script bc at the time he didn’t rlly need to read and write anyway? Then the 1600s rolled around and that changed so denmark had to teach him.
They are the very first people they will each go to if somethings wrong and they need help or support. Even if they don’t actively reach out, the other two can usually tell if something’s bothering them.
Norway and Sweden are just ever so slightly closer with one another than either of them are to Denmark. That’s not to say they’re not close to Denmark though. But I’ll never stop saying this, HIMA NEEDS TO SHOW SOME ACTUAL INTERACTION BETWEEN THEM!!!!
I’ve mentioned this before, Norway and Sweden have skiing competitions against one another. I can definitely see Denmark inviting himself sometimes but he always does pretty shit because he has no practice (Denmark being very flat and not very snowy) and also being afraid of heights (Nor and Sve usually do downhill skiing). This was years ago and nor and sve still bring it up. Den is never doing it again that’s for sure.
It’s not all sad for Denmark though bc I can also imagine him and Norway biking together sometimes for fun.
Hope this is satisfactory bc I don’t know how I feel abt some of these honestly <3

If I was to ever draw the Scandinavian countries as people, it'd really just be the 3 of them in a car with Denmark having their hand close to Sweden, while Sweden's angrily screaming 'Denmark's touching me!' and Denmark going 'Nuh uh my hands just close!', while Norway is done with their shit
