Hello! This is an ask blog I’ve made for Canada from Hetalia! I’m here to just kind of have a fun time and hopefully other people’ll have some fun too!

So me, the mod! You can call me Rose and I use he/they pronouns.

I don’t have a whole lot of artistic talent when it comes to drawing people, so this will be fun for everyone and some practice for me.

Not all asks will be replied to with drawings, but I will try to hand write them in the handwriting I’ve created for Canada.

Tags will be fairly straightforward honestly. I’ll tag most things with “aph Canada” “Hetalia” and stuff like that, asks will be tagged with “asks.” I’ll try to tag any posts with actual art in them with an art tag (“woah it’s art”)

I also can’t speak French. So any French that Canada may or may not speak will be taken from Google translate, feel free to correct me if I get stuff wrong!

[Arthur] I see Jack and Robin less often, but the two of them are always more than happy to tag along when they are around. Matthieu usually convinces us all to go hiking or camping on those occasions. Of course, I’m a little less accustomed to the mountains…but it’s a good escape for all of us.

Mathieu: "Okay, so alpha-nerd back here has definitely taught me a thing or two about archaeology. In fact, I usually can't get him to shut up about it. But it's fine, I get him back with hours-long lectures on conservation and sustainability sciences."

Alfred: "As if I don't like that stuff too, dangit!"

Mathieu: "Can't lie, we both enjoy plenty of similar things. Anthropology isn't really my thing, but it's still neat to learn about. Also, since bandana boy didn't call me over for the dinosaur question, which I'm offended by, I'm answering! My favorite is the Lambeosaurus. I like its crest. Boom, baby."

Alfred: "Told you guys we both love dinos! But yeah, Matt isn't hella big on anthro, but I do give him earfuls all the time. He gets me back for damn sure though!"

Blog Shout-out!

@hetalia-themagicalmanac has a cute AU with their OC named Mary, who found a magical almanac in a library, which acts as a portal of sorts, allowing her to play with the nations.

The AU has been going strong for several years, and there are links on the blog that make it easy to start from the beginning and see how the almanac came to he and how it ended up in Mary's possession, plus the shenanigans that happened afterwards.

The art reminds me of picture books that I learned to read from as a child, and the blog is full of wholesome fun with a child collecting many dads who love her 💞

Hey Cal! Question for you. What do you think about the Shaw family's recent donation to the Glenbow museum?

sometimes I try to answer current event asks in a timely manner and sometimes I wait 8-12 months because i got distracted I am Following the Story and Waiting for Developments cough cough cough

this announcement about the $35 mil donation was made in January 2022 and followed up in the spring with government funding committed for renovation. The Glenbow’s main building is in the process of transforming into the JR Centre for Arts and Culture.

I graduated a couple years ago from a museum studies program so I know a little bit about admission and funding models in Canada - they’re quite different from Europe and the US because about a third of the funding comes from government, which is usually much less than in Europe and much more than in the States. It is very typical to have free admission to major museums in NYC or in the UK, but basically unheard of in Canada until now. Of course, Calgary would be the city to do it due to having the most billionaires per capita in the country and a history of generous private arts funding.

(This also probably means that the Glenbow is actually being talked about in Museum Studies in a context other than the infamous Spirit Sings exhibition scandal in 1988, but I’m no longer a student nor am I currently working in museums so I don’t know exactly how that discussion is going)
