As a Hellenist, I've recently noticed a trend among various PJO fanfictions which in the big scheme of things isn't a huge deal but something I wanted to set right. And it's to do with Poseidon.
(EDIT: By Hellenist, I am referring to my degree in Classical Studies and Ancient History. I am not referring to Hellenic Polytheism.)
Tumblr media
@percabeth4life - ATLOP: Trial By Fire, c. May 2020
Tumblr media
@izzymrdb - And I Will Swallow My Pride (In the hopes of a final goodbye), c. August 2020
Tumblr media
visiblyuncomfortabl - My Soul Opposes Fate, c. December 2021
Tumblr media
@mrthology - Long Ago, That Current Caught Us, c. April 2022
Tumblr media
@ditesfavorite - Child Surprise, c. 2022
I couldn’t find any earlier examples, but starting with IzzyMRDB’s fic, several fics make reference to Poseidon possessing a gift of prophecy or, in the case of percabeth4life’s fic, suggest that there was some sort of abundant connection between oracles and the sea. And it’s simply not true.
Poseidon has variously been associated with or considered a god of: the sea (Hom. Il. xv. 184), earthquakes (Hom. Il. xv. 190), and horses (Hom. Il. xxiii. 307), along with being referred to by various epithets connecting him to springs (Κρηνούχος), seaweed (Φύκιος) and bulls (Tαύρειος). He has never, in any primary text, been referred to as having any connection to prophecy himself.
He has, however, been attributed as the father of beings with various connections to prophecy. In some traditions the Greek sea-god Proteus, described as tending Poseidon’s seal flock by Homer (Od. iv. 365), is instead described as a son of Poseidon and king of Egypt (Apollod. ii. 5). Further, the Delphic Sybil Herophile (a prophetess) ordinarily considered the daughter of Zeus and Lamia (Pausanias 10.12.2; which also describes Lamia as a daughter of Poseidon) has been conflated with a sea-nymph daughter of Poseidon and Aphrodite bearing the same name by Scholiast (on Pindar’s Pythian Ode 8.24) which was carried over by Riordan who subsequently conflated Herophile with the Erythraean Sibyl in the Trials of Apollo series.
So, yeah. Obviously, fanfic writers don’t have to stick to historical/mythological accuracy in their works, but something I found equally strange and hilarious while reading these fics was how this particular connection between Poseidon and prophecy kept popping up. I have no idea how it’s happened, but if any of the authors (or others in the fandom) do have an interest in accuracy, keep in mind in the future that there is no direct evidence of Poseidon himself having any connection to prophecy. Even taking Proteus (and arguably Herophile) into account, that’s only one or two children of well over 30 attributed offspring who have been described with any connection to prophecy at all, which statistically doesn’t point to their existence being evidence of their prophetic gift having anything to do with their father.

‹ 30 Days of Aphrodite 𝟹
Day One : What First Interested You About Aphrodite ??
I have always felt connected to love , beauty , and the ocean. I grew up right next to the ocean , it's like a second home to me. In particular , though , I was drawn to her in February of 2021. I didn't start worshipping her until April of that year , though. In my opinion , I feel as if I've been worshipping her my whole life , albeit not consciously. She has just always been such an important of my person.

generational wealth isnt just about the money, property and stocks. it's also about ur family passing down their experience and network of whatever industry/business they were in, so it's obviously easier for u to make it big in it, quicker. it's about the kind of atmosphere u grow up in, in and outside of home, which can largely alter ur chances of success in life. it's about the expectations and the many paths set for u by ppl who know their way around them, and the support they give u throughout ur journey through it. it's about maintaining class inequality.

ur telling me,, Elizabeth Swann manages to have the jack sparrow fall in love with her, becomes captain of a crew, loses everybody she has ever cared about, gets voted in as pirate king, escapes the confines of her life as the governor’s daughter which literally choked her in the first film, rescues and then marries the love of her life, delivers the single greatest speech on piracy and freedom and is then subjected to a LIFE ON LAND????

Bucket list for 2022 completed!
In the beginning of 2022, I've reflected on all the things I couldn't do in 2021 due to the pandemic and other reasons. Instead of making New Year's resolution, I wrote down the following bucket list (in no particular order). I have no idea how I achieved so much in one year, but I've completed my bucket list for 2022! This is deeply personal, so only read furthermore if you are interested in my personal life.
publish my poetry anthology: published on 22.01.22 via BooksonDemand. Buy it here!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
write 15k words for my wip during NaNoWriMo: I only wrote 7k, mostly because I moved apartments but I’m still proud of my slow progress (follow me on NaNoWriMo)
read 22 books in 2022: if you’ve followed my reading challenge on GoodReads, you know I barely made it, but I did!
open an Etsy shop to sell handmade goods: I did, but then Etsay raised all fees and I had to close it shortly after opening it
start studying: in April I started studying media design
take a social media detox for 2 weeks: I voluntarily didn’t use social media at all during my 2 weeks long summer vacation, and then I accidentally destroyed my phone and had to wait 3 weeks to get a new one
craft and create art: not as much as I wanted to, but I've crocheted a lot and participated in some dtiys art challenges
watch more movies: I’ve watched 10 movies in cinema and many more on Netflix, HBO and Disney+
commission an artist to draw my ocs: I've commissioned three talented artists to draw my ocs! On the left you see my main character, the dragon girl Enya Arati, drawn as a gift by @loopyhoopywrites and on the right is my mage oc Saoirse Dearbháil, drawn by Dasha Bune
Tumblr media Tumblr media
swim in a lake: I've spent a lovely summer day at a lake with my friend @silversynthesis
make more plant babies: just have a look! I love my collection of cacti und succulents
Tumblr media Tumblr media
go on a vacation (with my boyfriend): we went to Cyprus 🇨🇾 to visit my grandparents and enjoy the summer in autumn
swim in the sea/ go to the beach: I swam in the sea every day of my summer holiday
Tumblr media Tumblr media
get engaged: I got engaged with my boyfriend/ now fiancée at the beach of Aphrodite’s rock, the goddess of love 🥰 ah I love him so much and can't wait to marry him <3
go to a concert: I had a blast watching two of my favourite bands in concert 🤩
Tumblr media Tumblr media
meet my friends more often: I’ve finally met all my friends which I couldn’t meet the years prior due to the pandemic, but I can’t show you photos because I only and rarely post photos of me here
move together with my boyfriend in our first flat: We moved in together in November and I couldn't be happier!
save money/ don’t spend money on unnecessary things (exception: if they make me really happy): thanks to that exception, I didn't save money, but I've mostly spent it on things that make me very happy (art supplies and art by fellow artists)
monthly therapy session: I continued my therapy and I'm in such a good mental health state that I won't need therapy in the new year.
slow fashion/ don’t buy more than 22 new clothes: I bought 18 new clothes, 8 were fair fashion and 5 secondhand

Parker Solar Probe offers stunning view of Venus NASA's Parker Solar Probe captured stunning views of Venus during its close flyby of the planet in July 2020. Though Parker Solar Probe's focus is the Sun, Venus plays a critical role in the mission: The spacecraft whips by Venus a total of seven times over the course of its seven-year mission, using the planet's gravity to bend the spacecraft's orbit. These Venus gravity assists allow Parker Solar Probe to fly closer and closer to the Sun on its mission to study the dynamics of the solar wind close to its source. But -- along with the orbital dynamics -- these passes can also yield some unique and even unexpected views of the inner solar system. During the mission's third Venus gravity assist on July 11, 2020, the onboard Wide-field Imager for Parker Solar Probe, or WISPR, captured a striking image of the planet's nightside from 7,693 miles away. WISPR is designed to take images of the solar corona and inner heliosphere in visible light, as well as images of the solar wind and its structures as they approach and fly by the spacecraft. At Venus, the camera detected a bright rim around the edge of the planet that may be nightglow -- light emitted by oxygen atoms high in the atmosphere that recombine into molecules in the nightside. The prominent dark feature in the center of the image is Aphrodite Terra, the largest highland region on the Venusian surface. The feature appears dark because of its lower temperature, about 85 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) cooler than its surroundings. That aspect of the image took the team by surprise, said Angelos Vourlidas, the WISPR project scientist from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, who coordinated a WISPR imaging campaign with Japan's Venus-orbiting Akatsuki mission. "WISPR is tailored and tested for visible light observations. We expected to see clouds, but the camera peered right through to the surface." "WISPR effectively captured the thermal emission of the Venusian surface," said Brian Wood, an astrophysicist and WISPR team member from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. "It's very similar to images acquired by the Akatsuki spacecraft at near-infrared wavelengths." This surprising observation sent the WISPR team back to the lab to measure the instrument's sensitivity to infrared light. If WISPR can indeed pick up near-infrared wavelengths of light, the unforeseen capability would provide new opportunities to study dust around the Sun and in the inner solar system. If it can't pick up extra infrared wavelengths, then these images -- showing signatures of features on Venus' surface -- may have revealed a previously unknown "window" through the Venusian atmosphere. "Either way," Vourlidas said, "some exciting science opportunities await us." For more insight into the July 2020 images, the WISPR team planned a set of similar observations of the Venusian nightside during Parker Solar Probe's latest Venus flyby on Feb. 20, 2021. Mission team scientists expect to receive and process that data for analysis by the end of April. "We are really looking forward to these new images," said Javier Peralta, a planetary scientist from the Akatsuki team, who first suggested a Parker Solar Probe campaign with Akatsuki, which has been in orbiting Venus since 2015. "If WISPR can sense the thermal emission from the surface of Venus and nightglow -- most likely from oxygen -- at the limb of the planet, it can make valuable contributions to studies of the Venusian surface." IMAGE....When flying past Venus in July 2020, Parker Solar Probe's WISPR instrument, short for Wide-field Imager for Parker Solar Probe, detected a bright rim around the edge of the planet that may be nightglow -- light emitted by oxygen atoms high in the atmosphere that recombine into molecules in the nightside. The prominent dark feature in the center of the image is Aphrodite Terra, the largest highland region on the Venusian surface. Bright streaks in WISPR, such as the ones seen here, are typically caused by a combination of charged particles -- called cosmic rays -- sunlight reflected by grains of space dust, and particles of material expelled from the spacecraft's structures after impact with those dust grains. The number of streaks varies along the orbit or when the spacecraft is traveling at different speeds, and scientists are still in discussion about the specific origins of the streaks here. The dark spot appearing on the lower portion of Venus is an artifact from the WISPR instrument. CREDIT NASA/Johns Hopkins APL/Naval Research Laboratory/Guillermo Stenborg and Brendan Gallagher

BRF Reading - 28th of April, 2021
This is speculation only
Cards drawn 27th of April, 2021
Question: Is Her Majesty planning a regency?
Tumblr media
Interpretation: At the moment she is only thinking about it
Card One: The Lovers. This is a major arcana card, so what it signifies will be played out on the world stage.
The card shows the youth Paris, who was given the task of awarding the golden apple inscribed 'to the fairest' to one of three goddesses. The goddesses all promised him a reward - Hera offers him the globe of worldly authority and power, Athena offers the sword of the cutting power of the mind, and Aphrodite offers the cup of love. (note that this is how the gifts of the goddesses are described in this deck, in the myth they are a bit different). Here we see Paris in the moment of decision. He chose Aphrodite and the cup of love, as the Lovers card is about love and relationships.
The Lovers is the card of the sun-sign Gemini, and Gemini was the sun sign of Prince Philip. The Lovers card is also the card of soulmates and/or of romantic love, and Prince Philip and the Queen were in love for all of their married life (and before, i.e. during the engagement and before they became engaged). So one meaning of this card is Prince Philip and what he meant to the Queen.
The Lovers card can also indicate a business relationship, one where both parties work together in harmony and the relationship is beneficial to them both. In this sense it would represent the Queen working with someone else in a regency.
Card Two: The Four of Swords. The card shows Orestes meditating in a place of retreat. This is a card of rest, of quiet, of meditation. It can also be a card of death. In this spread it has a couple of meanings. The first is that Prince Philip, as represented by the previous card, is now dead. This is the four of Swords as a card of death. The second meaning is that HM the Queen, in the weeks following Prince Philip's death, is having a time of rest and reflection. She may come to realise that she is tired, the person she always leant on (her rock) is gone, and it may be time for her to hand over some or all of her duties so she, too, can have a period of rest.
Card Three: The Ace of Pentacles. This is a card of a new beginning in the area of material achievement - money, rank, power, status. It says that the resources for this new beginning are now available. The time is right to pursue this idea if you so wish. At this stage, the new beginning is only a thought. It will take planning and hard work to make it a reality.
Here we see the Queen thinking about a new beginning in terms of rank, status etc, which most likely means a regency. She has the resources to create a regency, and this is a good time to create one if she so wishes. However, at the moment this is only a thought. Nothing concrete has been done to turn it into a reality.
Underlying Energies: The Emperor. This is the card of the ultimate ruler, the one with all the power. It is a card of stability, of wisdom and experience, the ultimate father figure who guides his children. The card shows the God Zeus, the chief god of the Olympians.
In this reading, the Emperor card represents the power of the crown. At the moment, this is held by HM the Queen. If she decides on a regency, it will be held by another. This power, and the possible division of this power, is the underlying energy of this reading.
The Emperor can also represent Prince Charles, as the next male person to hold the authority of the crown. HM the Queen is deciding whether to pass this power on to him now, in the form of a regency of some sort, or if it would be better to hold it all herself.
The Emperor is a major arcana card, so whatever the result of HM the Queen's decision about who holds the power of the crown, we will see it displayed the public.
Major Arcana: We have two major arcana cards in this spread, the Lovers and the Emperor. The two major energies in the spread are the Queen's love for Prince Philip, the effect upon her of his passing, and whether she wants to enter into a partnership with respect to the power of the crown or not.
Conclusion: HM the Queen is thinking about a regency and whether she wishes to retire for a period of rest or she wishes to continue with all of her work. She has not yet decided if she wants to continue carrying the burden of the crown without the constant support of her spouse, or whether it would be better to pass some of the power onto her son, Prince Charles. She is in the stage of thinking it over and has made no firm decision either way as yet.

Well. If I can still receive cat calls from simply standing out on my apartment balcony and he goddess Aphrodite had fat rolls too, I really shouldn’t be too concerned about my appearance.

Aphrodite April 2021 Day 17
(The list of prompts is still right here if any of them catch your fancy!)
17) Where do you find or feel Aphrodite?
At the beach- even when I was an atheist I always felt like the beach was as close as I could get to the divine. More so now.
In the bath- I love bubble baths! I feel so at peace and allowed to spoil myself a bit.
Late at night- I'm a chronic insomniac and I used to have freakouts late at night over feeling alone. That doesn't happen anymore because now I just feel loved.
