I wonder how Rachel’s going to spin this. In the original myth, Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus and was beyond unfaithful to him.
Tumblr media
Given the grievances Ares listed for Aphrodite dumping him (and if Rachel sticks to the original material and has Aphrodite marry Hephaestus) it’s possible that that part of the myth will be excluded, hopefully. Personally I really like Lore Olympus’ version of Hephaestus, and he definitely deserves someone who doesn’t actively cheat on him or despises him. And given the reasons Ares gave for Aphrodite ending things with him, she knows she deserves someone who doesn’t isolate his love from her for years on end, doesn’t talk about the appealing beauty of another woman to the most vain Goddess in existence, and doesn’t lead her on with zero intention of commitment (like his father).

I wonder why christian misrepresentation are rarely talked about if compared to other religion misrepresentation. Like, I've seen people really vocal about Greek myths misrepresentation in LO and such (and it's valid because it's a culture and religion) but I rarely saw the same thing with christian even though there are many media who use christian religion innacurately, to the point where it comes off as using it as an aesthetic and not a proper religion.
Is it because of rampant religious trauma especially in western world? No ulterior motives on this question. I'm not a christian and yet I'm curious about this. I apologize if this sounds harsh.
I obviously don't have The Answer(tm) to this but personally speaking (and I'm about to get VERY personal here so take this with MOUNTAINS OF SALT), I think it's just the obvious - Christian mythology is one of the most well-documented and strongly protected out of virtually any other religion on the planet. Especially here in the West, it's commonplace for kids to go to Sunday school, for couples to have Christian weddings even if they're not practising Christians themselves, even the American anthem references the Christian God. It's simply not as easy to 'misrepresent' it because the representation is written into our very fabric of society. Even Greece itself is primarily made up of Orthodox Christians.
So anyone that does 'misrepresent' it are either completely mislead hardcore Christians, or people who are doing it intentionally, such as with the intent to make a parody of it or to deconstruct it through a different context or whatever have you. And of course, people will still get mad at those things, if you're implying that people aren't vocal about Christian misrepresentation then frankly IDK what to tell you there LOL If you want a contextual example in the realm of webtoons, Religiously Gay was dragged to hell and back during its launch for having a very crude and insulting depiction of St. Michael, and frankly, yeah I don't disagree because what the fuck is this-
Tumblr media
(like at best it's just terrible character design lmao that said, there's also plenty else to criticize Religiously Gay for, including its fetishy representation of gay relationships and the fact that it's still just the "naive person who looks and acts like a child hooks up with mean person in a position of power" trope, blech, but the character design is definitely the first thing you notice)
There are even plenty of hardcore Christians who will deadass claim "misrepresentation" over things that ARE factually correct but they just haven't read the actual Bible and simply cherry pick what works for their own agenda. And of course those people are routinely called out by people like myself who know for a fact that Jesus wouldn't have promoted the war crimes that many modern day Christians are committing and justifying today. So it really depends on the definition of "misrepresentation" here.
The issue specifically with LO and Rachel that I personally call her out for (and many others) is that she's called herself a "folklorist" and claimed she's so much more knowledgeable on Greek myth than anyone else, while making a complete mockery of the original mythologies while not being honest about her intent as to whether LO is actually supposed to be a legitimate retelling OR a parody (because it sure acts like the latter more than the former, but she still seems to expect us to take it seriously and consider her knowledge of Greek myth superior?) Which leads to a lot of her teenage audience claiming shit like "Persephone went down to the underworld willingly" and "Apollo did assault Persephone in the original myths actually" and the classic "why would Lore Olympus lie or make up fake myths?"
Tumblr media
You just can't pull off this extent of erasure with Christian mythology because we have a whole ass book of it that's been preserved, sold on shelves, and systematically integrated into society for thousands of years. Of course, there are people who will still try their damned best to twist the Bible to match their own bigotry with the whole "Jesus hates gays" bullshit (he would never), but it's met with equal amounts of 'misrepresentation' that are actually fully well-read and are intentionally subverting and changing things to either critique, parody, or restore the original intent of a lot of stories in the Bible without all the manufactured right-wing crap.
Greek myth, on the other hand, has some stories that are well preserved, and others, not so much. And in the modern day outside of the poems and hymns, you'll also rarely, if ever, see anyone use stories from Greek myth to ostracize, torture, and murder other people. "Misrepresenting Christianity" is more often done by actual Christians who are using the Bible to commit hate crimes than the people who have actually read the Bible and are just taking creative liberties with it for the sake of deconstructing / parodying / analyzing / subverting it. Veggie Tales "misrepresents" Christian stories because obviously Moses wasn't a fucking cucumber lmao but it still accomplishes its goal by retelling Christian stories in a way that's fun and educational for children.
By comparison (on the whole, I'm not comparing LO to Veggie Tales LMAO) LO just isn't clear in its intentions beyond Rachel's initial statements that she was trying to "deconstruct" the myths, while labelling herself as a folklorist. Therefore, I'm going to criticize how she does it because the way she's done it up until now has been very mishandled and has resulted in a lot of misinterpretations of the myths simply for the sake of fandom. And yes, these people exist in Christian media as well - they're called TV evangelists.
And that's my (very heavy) two cents.

My All Time Favorite Outfits in LO (Part One):
(In no particular order)
———————————///——————————
1. Episode 88: Persephone Dream Space Outfit:
Tumblr media
Since this outfit has lived rent-free in my head it’s going first. Like since I saw it in Episode 88 my life has known no peace.
Like I can’t begin to explain the chokehold this outfit has on me.
——————————————————————
2. Episode 100: Persephone Frilly White Outfit:
Tumblr media
I promise this list won’t be all Persephone filled, it’s just my bias for her sense of style 🥺✨. But I love the look here, it’s simple but cute, especially the heels and frilly socks.
——————————————————————
3. Episode 1: Minthe’s Lace Trimmed Bodysuit and Sheer Shawl:
Tumblr media
Now I know we’ve all got our feelings about Minthe…
But I can definitely say that I think about this get up every once in a while.
Like the lacy bodysuit, thigh highs, and sheer shawl???? I’ll take 20 💰
——————————————————————
4. Episode 64: Aphrodite Fluffy White Robe and Frilled Heels:
Tumblr media
Now you KNOW the goddess of love and beauty is going to be constantly put together and this outfit is a reminder of that. Even being home with her adorable kids isn’t going to stop the drip.
I’ll admit I’ve always wanted a robe like this
This is the official ‘Killed my husband and now I’m a wealthy widow’ get up and I can’t do anything but love it and envy ✨✨✨.
——————————————————————
5. Episode 119: Hera’s White Double Breasted Blazer (?) Thigh High Black Boot Combo:
Tumblr media
Now we already know Hera is always out her with the best royal fits imaginable. So of course she’s gonna be on this list. And while she has outfit after outfit I could list, this one is one I love and would probably wear.
——————————————————————
6. Episode 127: Thetis’ Blue Dress/Thigh High Boots combo:
Tumblr media
So yeah I’m not the biggest fan of Thetis but still the woman can dress! So this simple dress/boot combo is a favorite of mine.
——————————————————————
7. Episode 66: Hera’s Scorned Wife Dynasty Adjacent Look
Tumblr media
Even when she’s scorned and unhappy she’s slaying this rich angry wife look. The hat, the shoulder pads, the runny mascara 👏
——————————————————————
8. Episode 224: Brown Overcoat/ Tan Two Piece Set from Aphrodite:
Tumblr media
Im not sure why I’m so drawn to this one, maybe it’s the simplicity? the browns? Who knows! But to me it’s a good casual look.
——————————————————————
9. Episode 1: Artemis’ Black(purple?) Party Dress:
Tumblr media
Artemis seems to fluctuate between casual, sporty, and Greek god formal, so there’s not many outfits I personally vibe with. But this dress is an absolute exception. It’s cute, it’s sparkly, what’s not to love?
10. Episode 72: Hecate’s Full Length Black Nightgown:
Tumblr media
A lot of Hecates attire is a high class business suits that I can always appreciate but THIS. Look I’m not sure why this works so well but it absolutely does it. The sleeves, the length. It’s just so dramatic, dark, and elegant and suits a character like Hecate.
——————————————————————
Well that’s the list for now! Stay tuned for pt. 2!

Eros is quite possibly the worst friend, like. You know what Apollo did to Persephone and you're just straight up letting him push you around?? What happened to all that fight in season..1/2? When you came crashing in through a window to protect her?? Or when you got black out angry when your heart was broken?? Like. Man you are such a LOSER. Get it together.
Also annual Hera slay, telling Kronos she doesn't care about his sad little woes, like SLAY QUEEN WE LOVE THAT <3 (As oppose to Hades fucking forgiving him. That isn't a flex, you're just a loser still. Forgiving your abusive family isn't iconic, it's disgusting. 🤦‍♀️)
And oh good. We finally remembered Morpheus, hey girl! Missed you!
And let's address the Persephone and Apollo thing, one. He makes me so fucking angry. Like he's fucking disgusting, I like how he was colored though, the coloring in this panel was pretty nice. And just...Persephone should've done a LOT more than jab him with an arrow (still a slay move tho. Stab him a few more times me thinks.)
Like..what is stabbing Apollo with a love arrow actually gonna do?? It just...seems counter productive..like I don't think making him love you is gonna..do much? But maybe I'm wrong, maybe he'll..see the error of his ways with this 😶 which isn't..the best conclusion to a r*pists story ?? Like..I don't think making a r*pist love their victim is..the way to end that??

I uh…keep forgetting I drew this BUT, here’s an Aphrodite redesign/revamp!
I basically changed…a lot for her, and did whatever I wanted! I made her purples warmer/pink aligned, because I think they’re nicer than the millions of purples canon gives her. Made her curvy/plus sized because varied body types are good actually! And with her being the goddess of beauty, it’s a nice touch. She’s also a water nymph now!
I mentioned before she’s a sex and couples counselor in my AU, which is still accurate! The first two outfits are her therapy looks, the third and fourth are her “off the clock” looks, and the last one is her lounge wear! Made them reddish pink to make her warmer purples, and because most of these outfits are based off Margo Robbie Barbie (and Barbie runway collections in general).
Also gave her hearts as a reference to Eros! It is not because I forgot she was the goddess of beauty and about Eros entire existence! Oops!

Fertility goddesses were worshipped as early as the Minoan civilization just about birth... there's NO EVEN ONE MENTION of this being a crucial point in any mythology
Like why is Rachel so keen to use it in her plot as something other that the natural progress of life??
I'm pretty dead set on the belief that she literally took the fertility god status away from every single god and goddess who had it so she could turn her self-insert power fantasy into the Avatar (`ー´)

As much as I liked Ares x Aphrodite, I’m glad she finally dumbed his a$$ and got married (possibly to Hephaestus like in the myth).
I hope her new husband is treating her with the love and respect she deserves.

Another loaded episode of Lore Olympus, so let's dive in...
Tumblr media
Let's start with Aphrodite. Understandably, she's upset that Eros and Psyche are missing. Obviously, wannabe-king Apollo isn't going to broadcast that, but that doesn't mean folks aren't going to notice that three gods are now missing after Zeus went into a coma.
(Is that the Horrible Goose running amok in the background?)
Tumblr media
Why the fuck do you want Eros' arrows, SPECIFICALLY the ones for true love? They don't work the way that you think that they do!
Look at what happened with the truth arrow. Anyone looking at Apollo when that thing hit saw the truth... the horrible, nasty truth about what he did. (I believe it was Daphne? That was what led to her getting "treed.")
If Apollo thinks a true love arrow is going to make Persephone fall in love with him (and thus, give him access to her fertility goddess powers) then he's in for a rude surprise. If anything, she'll lend her powers to Hades so that they can kick Apollo's ass together like a power couple!
Or, maybe he has something worse in mind? Let's hope not.
Tumblr media
Shit is still going down in the Mortal Realm. Apollo doesn't waste a moment blaming Persephone for it on TV.
Hey fucknugget, unless I'm mistaken, sun gods/goddesses were banned from the Underworld LONG before Hades and Persephone were even a thing. And Persephone made the right decision escaping to the Underworld to get away from your r*pey ass. Choke on a long, splintery battering ram!
Tumblr media
Even in the physical safety of the Underworld, Apollo still has the power to harm with his words. It's bad enough that Persephone is guilt-wracked by her rearranged powers causing havoc, but hearing Apollo's gaslighting on the TV is only making it worse
The title of this chapter is "Wheat", and we sure are seeing a lot of it here with Persephone. That mural on the wall seems to be watching her.
We're pretty certain that Persephone was originally supposed to take over for Demeter at some point. Well, that's not happening. The wheat imagery here seems to represent what was planned to happen. As it closes in more and more around her, there's the sense of Persephone being smothered by the old plans for her.
On the other hand, I can't help but wonder if, in some way, the mural is trying to point her in a particular direction. Wheat can be grown, harvested, and stored; this is what the mortals need to know and learn to survive the (now) long winters.
Tumblr media
We've been watching Persephone progressively sweating more and more throughout this chapter. While she's talking to this nymph, her vision gets blurry until she passes out.
She's running a fever and is put on bed rest immediately. There could be so many things causing this that it's hard to nail it down to just one.
The situation with the Mortal Realm
Her wonky powers
Apollo gaslighting her on tv
Maybe it's Kronos
Whatever the case, she is not doing well at the moment.
Tumblr media
While she's in bed, Demeter comes to see her. Persephone voices her worries to her mother, and Demeter seems to actively listen.
"I barely know anything about myself..."
The cliffhanger is Demeter saying "Wait..."
Will this turn into an honest heart-to-heart conversation? Will important secrets get revealed? Will Apollo get shot in the ass with a truth arrow on live TV? (GAWD, I hope so!)
Anyway, thanks for coming to my LO post!
