I read and did a book report on this book for my senior year. I really enjoy the back story of this book. The timeline was easy to follow and I totally recommend this, especially if you're in AP classes looking for a good book to read maybe to help with your test.

The New and Improved AP Lang. First Assignment ;)

The very first assignment I had in AP Language and Composition was with a Kanye West photo. 

Yes. You read that write (hehehehe, pun intended). 

My English teacher passed it out and asked us to analyze it. Later, we learned about the rhetorical situation and SOAPS (subject, occasion, audience, purpose, and speaker). (A)

Now, let me do my own version of that first assignment. 

The average audience would dissect this: the subject? A mother and her son. The occasion? Some sort of graduation. The purpose? To record the happiness and pride felt by a mother towards her child. The speaker? Possibly a family member, or a random bystander who was asked, “Could you please take a photo of us?” But the candidness of the photo points toward a family member who was indefinitely taking pictures (hint: look at the profile picture of this blog). 

I have learned that the most interesting aspect of rhetorical analysis is that it is, in itself, slightly deceptive. “Analysis” implies finding answers to questions. In reality, rhetorical analysis requires working with an inherently limited text, which you can only yield so many certain answers from. With this photo, for example, you do not know what happened before or after it. You do not know what sounds were made, what words were spoken. 

You would not know from this image that hours later, that happy mother would be in the Emergency Room with her son, that son, wheeling her in, previously carrying a bag of her vomit. 

But that is what good rhetorical analysis is about. Doing research, asking questions, and trying to identify the context, to give the text its full impact (A).

ap lang = complete!

i actually felt okay taking it and weirdly confident in my abilities afterwards. there’s still a hint of disbelief in my skills, but i’m going to try not to focus on it until score come out in july. i didn’t cry, though, so this is already going supremely better than the sat.

i have a ton of homework to do for tomorrow and no desire to do it. and i wanna blame it on the end of the school year and the crave for summer (which is very real!), but we all know it’s because im dEpReSsEd.

they really weren’t kidding when they said that never really goes away. 

i had a few good months and i’m in the transition of changing therapists so i haven’t been since early april and life just seems to be going downhill. i just want school and tests and getting up early and long days to be over.

but i see ricky freakin montgomery in three days and it’s going to be one of the best evenings of my existence :)

when when you're in aplang and it'd only the second day of school but you cried on the way home on the bus because uhmmmmm you never learned anything the teacher is talking about. and you're for the first time in your life the complete and utter dumbest person in the room. since everyone else learned all this throughout the past two years because they started off in advanced but you decided to stay in regents past two years. this teacher begged me to take the class knowing damn well i wouldn't know wtf is going on because my she taught me last year and now i have to email her begging for resources that she may have so i can teach myself because she lacked to do so herself last year 😍😍😍😍 rhetoric? ethos? pathos? logos? i have a timed essay on that shit friday and idek what those are. litterally going to kms
