the other group in the apocalyptic au is the marauders + regulus and barty. it's important to remember that reg and barty do not want to be there. when The Event (actual cause of apocalypse pending) occurs the marauders end up going back to sirius' family home to find regulus & they basically drag regulus kicking and screaming from the wreckage (&his parents).

ofc barty ends up following them. he's mad he's there and rude to everyone but reg but he doesn't take reg and leave bc he knows this is regulus' best chance for survival. sirius cares about his little brother, and barty respects that.

barty and sirius are the fighters of the group. barty is trained, he spent his childhood fighting (sanctioned and unsanctioned). sirius is full of enough rage to make up for lack of experience, and his ability to read ppl gives him an upper hand.

james, as mentioned, is the group medic. he was pre-med, but had no medical experience. if only he'd been broke and needed to be a nurse to pay his way through school! but james is smart, and he got hurt a lot as a kid, so there's a bit of practical knowledge.

remus can fight if he must, but with his chronic illness flair ups (prob MS, if i write it i will decide) he's not as dependable. his skill is with de-escalating, which james would be able to do if regulus and barty didn't hate him. he also knows how to hunt and cure meat. trapping and tracking, not big game. his dad loved camping. real camping

peter had a desk job. peter is admin. he can't fight, he can't hunt, he can't cook. he keeps them organized, he reads maps and tries to plan ahead. barty says he's dead weight and a coward.

regulus... well regulus is the baby. regulus is sirius' little brother, barty's main focus. he's 19, he was great in school but has no life skills bc of how obedient he was to his parents. until they realize this creepy little right wing fuck is obsessed with guns and a skilled manipulator. he just needed to get out of his shell.

Long for the World, Chapter 2: In Our Time

This series tells the story of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, androids created by Mycroft Holmes, a genius in the field of artificial intelligence who has learned how to make his androids self-aware and capable of experiencing emotion.

This story (second in the series) is told by John Watson, an android, a lover of books, a writer of stories, beloved of Sherlock Holmes. (The voice may be a bit different from my usual.) It’s an important story to tell, he feels, because people need to understand that an android’s heart is not just a mechanism. No one knows exactly what a soul is; who’s to say an android doesn’t have one?

I believe most readers know what you're in for with this story, but I'll give chapter warnings for specific things in case this isn't the kind of story you can read. The story takes place over many years, so characters will die. In this chapter (covering about ten years) there are: prejudice directed against androids, an accident with injuries (and recovery), fear of incipient war, and the resurgence of a viral pandemic. Two characters die (Mycroft and Mrs Hudson).

i have an idea for a post-apocalyptic fanfic where lily and fabian are lovers marauding the decimated landscape together (maybe with gideon and marlene and dorcas as well) and it's just rly dark and hopeless and the smut is intense.

and then they run into The Marauders (along with regulus and barty, who do not want to be there) and manage to join forces. they have a shared goal: whisperings of an oasis.

lily is the medic of the group bc of her biochem background and gardening knowledge. james was the medic for his group, so they spend a lot of time together. they're attracted to each other immediately, and though it takes a while for them to let down their walls (arrogant james vs perfect lily) once they do the emotional connection is strong

society has crumbled, so if lily wants someone she's not going to wait. she tells fabian how she feels. lily has two boyfriends now. james and fabian end up getting together, too, after some time.

of course, over their journey the lose people. one by one they're picked off. first regulus, then barty snaps and they have to leave him for dead. marlene next, and soon dorcas backtracks to hunt down her killers. peter disappears in the night, but there was no sign of struggle. they keep going.

lily gets pregnant. it could be either man's, they're both happy and scared in varied measures. they keep going. they may be close now. remus thinks someone is tracking them. james thinks remus is paranoid. sirius doesn't say when he thinks.

one night they get into an argument on which way to go. fabian, gideon and sirius are the last truly skilled fighters left. sirius wants to go one way, remus wants to go the other. james trusts sirius the most, at the end of it all, so he sides with sirius. so lily sides with sirius, so fabian and gideon side with sirius.

remus stays, but they're bitter. they go off and skulk, coming back around morning. two days later the group is ambushed. lily is about 8 months along now. fabian and gideon take down the whole group, but they succumb to their wounds hours later. they die protecting lily.

sirius blames remus. james tries to de-escalate. lily has nothing to say.

remus leaves.

lily, james and sirius find the oasis.
