I was talking about that on my last post. This one is an old portrait I did in April 2020. I never posted it here before too and I think that I stopped doing that kind of portraits (portrait and landscape mash up) because they used to take me a lot of time (tha’ts kind of silly, you shouldn’t really think about the time it takes you to finish a piece). I also started to include backgrounds on my portraits and naturally stopped separating environments and character. Maybe I’ll do one like this one now, just for old time sake and because I kinda like that style. What do you think about it?

Combining painting and performance, the literally named “Dipped Paintings” of Brooklyn-based visual artist @oliverjeffers encapsulate the whimsical creativity and multidisciplinary range of his artistic practice, which also includes bookmaking, illustration, collage, and sculpture (not to mention, he’s also a bestselling children’s books author). Having painted the portraits in isolation, he dips them in enamel during a public performance with the spectators being the sole witnesses of the complete work. The series is also speaks of Oliver’s affinity for repurposing found objects; not only does he use reclaimed frames, and vintage photographs as paint testers, he also picks locations with stories to tell such as a disused post office and a factory turned artist space. “Much of life is a contradiction, and I’m fascinated by that”, as he told Yatzer a few years ago, a motto that informs both his art and his storytelling. .
