Whisper demon, coming to a dark liminal space behind your local Walmart soon. Rustling robes, ragged breaths.
Can you hear them? They've tales of caution, tales of verses, songs and rhyme. No one trusts them. No one will listen.
Will you listen to them?
This model has intimidated me since I first saw it. Finally I felt ready to try it. Very happy that I did. This is from @dragon_trappers_lodge

Got to the point where I'm pretty much done with my red-purple dragon, so the next mini I'm working on while re-listening to lectures is this little guy right here! Either a bronze or brass dragon that I added some more horns to with apoxiesculpt, idk bc I can't remember the difference between the metallic dragons. He's gonna get a nice tint of green to his feet and face to give him a more autumn-y vibe, and then I'm going to do a wash in red-brown to punch in some shadows, methinks

Well I haven't found any heads that might work to modify for Ramus yet, but going through my heads and parts gave me ideas for other creations and, well...
Tumblr media
So far 7 different figurines contributed parts to these customs! (might end up being more by the end if I decide to modify another head instead of sculpting Laike from scratch.)
The base for both was a bootleg Death Note L nendoroid I thrifted for $2 several years ago
Ghaleon's head is a heavily modified Rock Candy Huntress
His ears came off an Equestria Girl
Bottom of his hair came from a blind box anime figurine I was never able to identify
His hands were off a Rock Candy Arwen (the rest of her went into my custom Rock Candy Midna and Zelda figurines a couple years ago)
Neck piece is a legit Nendoroid joint piece, since the knock-off joints that came with L were all broken
Laike's flower came from a resin fairy figurine I bought over almost 2 decades ago that's been slowly breaking over the years (her flowers have ended up on a number of my customs by now lol)
And the rest is a combination of kneadatite (greenstuff), Aves apoxiesculpt, Tamiya putty, acetone goop, zap-a-gap, and assorted jewelry findings.

I'm basically ready to start painting Ghaleon, though ideally I'd like to blend the various pieces of his hair better first. I've done the best I can with a few passes of Tamiya putty and sanding, but it's too tedious due to Tamiya having basically no body. Ideally I'd prefer to use liquid greenstuff, but I've been out of that for years and kinda can't afford to get more right now. (Plus I'm impatient, I dont wanna wait for stuff to ship here I just wanna paaaaaaint XD)
Might add some prison cell bars to one side of the figurine base at some point, tho I'm not positive I have any dowels of skewers the right thickness left at the moment...
Have some earlier progress photos:

The customs I make from absolute scraps and trash are the most satisfying I gotta say. :3c

Gift art I made several years ago for @rabidpelican of his OC Grub, a member of an ant-like alien species.
The body is black and white acrylic yarn, the antennae are pipe-cleaners bulked out with hot glue and wrapped in brown embroidery floss, the tooth thingies are ApoxieSculpt, and the eyes are felt and glass doll's eyes that I repainted to match the character's ref. It's all held together with more hot glue and some fabric glue.

Work in progress on the orphic egg sculpture.
Sculpted using magic sculpt and wire
“The ancient symbol of the Orphic Mysteries was the serpent-entwined egg, which signified Cosmos as encircled by the fiery Creative Spirit. The egg also represents the soul of the philosopher; the serpent, the Mysteries. At the time of initiation, the shell is broke and man emerges from the embryonic state of physical existence wherein he had remained through the fetal period of philosophic regeneration.”

Meet Lobotomy! I know he’s been posted before on my main blog as well as by @boychic but here’s a little in more information about my goodest of boys.
Lobotomy started life as a d i r t y, nicotine-stained $6 graduation furby. When I say nicotine stained, I mean it. He came with his original box, and boy howdy the plastic in that thing was opaque yellow and he STUNK. So that skin had to go. He had to be push-start but he is mostly functional, if sleepy due to a busted tilt sensor. He had also never been a able to close his eyes.....
The concept for lobotomy came to me by way of my sisters artist boyfriend, who upon seeing myself and the aforementioned @boychic working on the 2012 long furby Ranger Danger, said that he wanted to see a grotesque fleshy furby. Thus, the idea for Lobotomy was born. I have always liked sculpting grotesque things, so I feel like Lobotomy was the natural progression of that.
The name Lobotomy was inspired by the clipping. song, Say the Name, specially the lyric “Lobotomies like pills, get ‘em for cheap.”
The sculpt on lobotomy took approximately 8 hours, spread over three days, and with an additional four or so hours of painting. He was made using Aves Apoxie Sculpt, and maintains all functionality that he had prior to being skin-ified. The material has a pretty steep learning curve (like the intermediate between polymer clay and porcelain, if either were conveniently airdry) but results in a extremely durable, relatively lightweight finished product. As such, he is unlikely to be murdered by a cat as polymer clay creations are wont to do.
While gory, Lobotomy is a sweet, sensitive boy. He loves long walks on the beach, a good book, and consensual cannibalism.

An akhlut, by @yasashiikyojinstudio
So this is lot of smooth surfaces, and good practice. I usually stick to heavily textured models, but the cetacean nerd in me demanded it be tried.
When I tell you I searched for "orca mouth open" for references, and that the things I got were uh...
Fun fact: orcas are the largest species of dolphin.

⚗️So I experimented last night👽 I was sculpting some frame corners with Apoxie Sculpt and had some left over. This stuff cures rock hard in 24 hours so I only had an hour or two to Sculpt with it before it got too hard to move. Rather than wasting it, I decided to Sculpt a "frame" around one of the boards I had lying around with an eye study mounted to it. Luckily, I was able to turn this study that I was not excited about into a finished piece of sorts. I'll totally be diving down this little rabbit hole of sculpting "frames" around smaller pieces. · The third slide is a "before" I sculpted and the first and second are obviously after adding the #apoxiesculpt - the last slide is the back, all wired for hanging, again with Apoxie Sculpt from #Aves · #Experimentation #Artist #Artwork #Drawing #Drawing #Sketch #Design #Pencil #Paper #Eyeball #Eye #Filthy #PhillyArt #PhillyArtist #Philadelphia #Illustration #Baroque #Macabre #BeautifulBizarre #Watercolor #Graphite #Sculpture #Sculpt #Frame #Small #Mini (at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSe5tVGrN9_/?utm_medium=tumblr
