I wish I had the physical ability to be able to code. I think it would be really cool to make a free to access, ad free game where you're exploring underwater and can explore a made up semi-realistic looking ocean like a SCUBA diver. You can collect achievements by discovering new sea life and finding cool shells and stuff. And once you get enough achievements, you unlock a new location with life from different water conditions. And it's just a cute little discovery game. No connecting to the Internet. No pushing you to rate it. No shoving your contacts in your face. No real money, no game money. No sidebar quests. Just relaxation. Just exploration. Maybe the occasional reminder to take a few deep breaths and get a sip of water every 15-45 minutes (you can disable it in the settings). Maybe some relaxing background sounds options in the settings. Low movement and descriptive audio options. Pre-disabled haptics and background audio. Audio from other apps won't automatically turn off. Brightness, colour, and contrast controls. Colourblind options. Idk, just something that would be fun and relaxing and you could wind down with it. Something everyone could use if they wanted.

I know this will only be around until halloween is over, but I really like the way it looks and kinda wish that it’s the way it’ll look going forward. (It’s not just cuz I like splatoon)

never actually thought they could make the youtube app worse but look at that.
Tumblr media
i literally have the tallest phone known to man yet i am physically unable to see any of the channel's most recent/featured videos in favor of an algorithmically picked pool of videos in this new For You column.
and before you had the entire bottom half of the screen vacant in terms of input - meaning you could very easily swipe right to get to the Videos tab. the part ive marked in yellow here is literally the only space on screen you can do that now.
theyve made accessing THE VIDEOS TAB on YOUTUBE an active nuisance.

Yeah but having a cute little rainbow caterpillar to drag around is better actually

the FAB is an Android material design element. it's not really used on iOS so it's unfamiliar to users. moreover it blocks part of the view. it only makes sense in apps that don't really use that part of the screen as much

I noticed while reporting/blocking a spam account in the tumblr app that it pops up a little green thing at the bottom of the screen saying you successfully blocked [whoever].
But what I discovered by accident is that you can touch the little green thing and fling it off the screen and it seems to have physics and it’s kind of delightful??
I love silly little details like this in things.

We had an idea for an app that we think would help a lot of people with DID/OSDD.
A combination of Finch self care and Simply Plural, it would track switches, who in the system did what task, what symptoms happened when and who experienced them, reflections on the system and members, and what the fronter and others are feeling.
However, we don't have experience coding or making apps, and wouldn't know where to start. If anyone has ideas or knows what coding language we would need to learn, please respond here or message us/send us an ask.

one thing i've come to really appreciate about tumblr since installing it is the fundamentals of its design.
on apps like twitter, you can become so obsessed with numbers: followers, likes, views - and that kind of engagement-centred environment can mess with your mental health.
compare that to the environment tumblr presents; notes are a cumulative value of interactions;
Tumblr media
and the individual numbers for reblogs and likes are hidden until you decide to see it.
Tumblr media
the same goes for comments; you're not forced to see any threads or replies.
follower counts aren't even present on profiles - somebody could have 50 followers or 50,000; their blogs hold the same value.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(love you 89cats!!)
another thing i really appreciate is the energy of wellbeing behind the entire platform.
from the moment you start the app, you're presented with such a diverse array of personalised topics to follow, and to search for, to really make a space you feel comfortable in.
Tumblr media
sometimes, people can get hooked into dms, but the first thing that arrives in your tumblr inbox is a bot designed for people to send positive messages and emotional support to each other.
Tumblr media
i just wanted to share and express my appreciation for how this app is designed, to its roots and its intents. it seems like a fun and lovely place to be! :3
