"…The delivery guy was supposed to be here by now. I really don't wanna go outside and check… the outside world is dangerous… but I guess I'll have to give it my pico-best. So, one glance! Then we return to our hiding place, and never leave again. Zero social interaction, zero eye contact, zero conversation-- alright, let's go!"

She stepped outside, climbing up the basement steps and emerging in an alleyway. She looked around, before catching sight of someone. She pointed.

"Ohh, look… a handsome guy. He'd totally fit into an otome game… Forget it, I'm way outta his league, and you guys are too if you're hanging with a NEET. He probably wouldn't even notice--"

A moment passed, as the 'handsome man' in the alleyway caught sight of the MoonCancer… and smiled.

"Eh? Eh, eh, eeeeh? Wait a second-- look! He's approaching? He's smiling at me? Is it finally happening? My 'meet cute' romance flag?"

He was approaching. Slowly and carefully, as they locked eyes. They could both feel the mana in the air, dense and terrifying. Divinity clashing against something far darker.

"…An enemy Servant." The Avenger said, carefully. "And one of great magical power, I can feel it. As expected of an Extra-Class!"

"Geh-- Great magical power? M-M-Me?! Wait--!" You could see the color drain from the MoonCancer's face, as she slowly began to back up. "L-L-Listen, I'm really just hanging out-- I'm practically a civilian! I'm barely even a S-Servant! Can't you cut me some slack?"

"…No."

He drew a blade. A sword, roiling with bitter flames, as he pointed it towards her.

"Servant of the Holy Grail War. My Masters have given me the order to kill you, mademoiselle… and therefore, you will witness hell."

"See?! This is why going outside is dangerous! Every flag is a red flaaaaag!"

Additionally, when engaged in a Free-for-All, they gain a +3% boost, and if they score last place and there's at least a 3% difference in their score and 2nd place, they may avoid damage.

The Count of Monte Cristo (Avenger)

Determination of Steel (EX Rank): If Avenger is about to take a fatal wound, if there's at least a 3% difference in their score and the victor above him, he may avoid damage. When facing a single-target (1-on-1), he will gain a +3% boost.

Monte Cristo Mythologie: The King of the Cavern (C Rank): When battling enemies, his flames are like a poison. He reduces demerits against him by 3%, and when he is victorious against another, he inflicts a -2% demerit for their next round. This demerit increases by 2% by every 10% difference in scores.

AVENGER-CLASS Servants are vengeful by nature. The first time they are defeated by a Servant, they gain an automatic +2% bonus against that specific Servant, without needing to study them (but can in order to increase the bonus). They gain a permanent +3% bonus per wound they attain that will remain if the wound remains, but will disappear if the wound is healed.

🔥 Hottest and ugliest/most bland MC and LI. Also favorite and least favorite otome game artwork.

Hottest MC

This is difficult cos the majority of MCs in Otome games who are adult women are so infantilised and spineless that it feels ewwy to find them attractive. One thing I hate is women being infantilised, cos it’s an actual trigger for me.

Either Seraphina from Peachleaf Valley or Teuta from Bustafellow since they are and act like actual adults, despite the weird artistic elements anime usually gives them. They’re funny, witty, sweet but know when to put their foot down and have a lot more agency than your usual garbage dating sim protagonist.

I would also say Kotone cos she is both a successful cafe owner and landlord but the way the story treats her and how the men are towards her, she honestly deserves a better game (with LIs who aren’t pedos or old enough to be her dad). She’s a wonderful character but I find her more cute than attractive.

I love Lynette though. Her design is so pretty and I love the more flashy 80s glam businesswoman look to her. She would fit right in with Jem and the Holograms. But again, she deserves a better game and a personality upgrade cos FOR FUCKS SAKE WHY IS THE MATCHMAKING GODDESS OF LOVE A CLUELESS INGENUE. SHE’S CUPID SHE SHOULD BE ABLE TO READ MEN LIKE A 4 PAGE PICTURE BOOK

Blandest MC

This is like counting every grain of sand on a beach, cos of the genre we’re in. THERE’S SO FUCKING MANY.

My top 3 would be:

The MC from Amnesia Memories, who I’m gonna call Maria, is the biggest offender. While Cardia and Ichika have some quirks, Maria has FUCKING NOTHING. Half of her thought processes and inner dialogue are taken up by a flying pixie in her head so we never get any idea of what Maria’s personality is like. And because this game uses her amnesia as an excuse to not give her any personality or agency from that matter

And Ichika from Collar x Malice.

Basically any Otomate protagonist can apply here, cos they’re all cut from the same bland UwU ingenue cloth and I’m SICK of Otome fans seeing every new protagonist and going “omg she’s such a sassy girlboss” when all she does is say no to a pervert’s advances. Like, that’s not sass, that’s basic self-defense.

Hottest LI

Mozu, hands down. Love how genuinely supportive and sweet he is. His design isn’t all that special but his personality really shines through. He’s delightfully morbid, which makes sense considering he’s a coroner. He spouts random scientific facts and statements about everything he sees like Sheldon Cooper and even in other routes, he considers Teuta his friend and always treats her with respect. He’s such a good man and I love how even his trauma regarding his sister’s death doesn’t affect his relationship with Teuta. Teuta does feel like a comforting angel in that game but after seeing the roles being reversed in Bustafellows 2, it’s great to see Mozu be the one comforting Teuta with her problems. Also the fact that Mozu is currently seeing a therapist to deal with his trauma so he can be a better boyfriend to Teuta is so 🥹

The only things I didn’t like about him was a moment where he awkwardly kabedons Teuta when he was depressed thinking about the investigation of his sister’s possible death and wanted to flirt with Teuta in the only way he knew how to take his mind of things. That was…weird. It felt like that scene was only there just so Kohaku can draw a kabedon scene. To be fair, Mozu is not well versed in romantic language at all and is very autism-coded so I give him some slack as the scene comes off as someone who clearly didn’t know how to process his emotions properly. Once Teuta explains that’s not cool, he immediately backs off, apologises and promises to ask next time.

Also he slapped Teuta when she was feeling out about a fire in the school and a little girl is trapped in there. I know it was meant to be a “pull yourself together” slap and I’ve seen this trope in a bunch of shows, not just anime. But it’s still weird.

Worst LI

Takeru Sasazuka. I used to love this guy when I first got this game and good Lord I regret it. He’s supposed to be this tsundere who slowly defrosts and becomes nicer to Ichika, but considering how much he insults her and calls her a dog as a “joke”, but it’s okay he hugs her when she’s about to fall into a mental breakdown or cries in a moment of distress, so he really does love her and I’m like fuck off.

He only softens up when the sequel came out where there was only slice of life stories and nothing serious was on the horizon, like a terrorist threat from the last game. He is interesting as a character: he has a hatred of guns since his mother was shot in front of him when he was a kid and only became a cop in order to gain enough power to reinstate a gun safety law since every individual in Shinjuku atm has enough guns that’ll make a Republican blush. Also he has very little family or friends and deep down truly wants to have people in his life, despite his prickly exterior. There is a lot of potential for a defrosting ice king character like him. But being deliberately unlikable is still unlikable.

This really goes to show how 80 of Otomate’s men work better as standard characters, rather than love interests to the MC.

I can’t believe I fancied him when I was younger, although that might be due to Daisuke Namikawa voicing him.

Also Shin and Toma from Amnesia Memories. These two are the childhood friends of Maria and they have a bit of a rivalry cos they both have feelings for her, but depending on either route, Maria’s relationship with them changes (like if you chose Shin, Maria would consider Toma like a friend and vice versa)

However, do they act normal to Maria? HELL FUCKING NAH! I remember choosing Shin when I first played this game cos I thought he was the most normal of the LIs, he had a tragic past with his father being in prison for murder and everyone considers him guilty by association, his only true friends were Maria and Toma and he tersely motivated Maria to become a better singer. But ALL THAT GOODWILL JUST PISSED AWAY cos Not only was he being needlessly secretive towards Maria after her amnesia (cos the game wants to be a mystery and the story constantly trying to red herring you with possibilities that it was him who caused Maria’s amnesia when it really wasn’t), and his design and personality just REEKS of good girls dating the emotionally abusive bad boy trope like it’s the fucking 50s. Also the amount of forceful kissing this guy did was just yuck. 🤮

But that is small potatoes compared to Toma. He is a yandere character taken to a disturbing degree. He starts off friendly and cheerful, then when Maria is stalked by someone, he offers her to stay at his home for a while. I think we all know where this is going. After using Maria’s amnesia to his advantage by lying to her and everyone about their relationship, he quickly stops Maria from seeing her friends, attending uni or her job, drugs her food, takes away her cellphone to cut her off from everyone. And perhaps the most infamously evil thing he’s done is lock the woman up in a “kawaii uguu cage of love” and only lets her out to use the toilet and threatens to rape her if she dared get out of her cage or leave without telling her. And the only punishment he ever gets is Shin punching him once or in Shin’s route, Toma brings himself in to be arrested cos he can’t handle Maria’s rejection. THERES EVEN AN ENDING WHERE MARIA STRAIGHT UP FORGIVES HER. WHAT THE PISS-SHITTING FUCK?!

Toma is a vile, pathetic piece of shit and the fact that he is the most popular character in the game and his serial killer behaviour is memed by Otomate as if it’s a cute quirk is fucking disgusting. I found out online that there is a CAFE based on this game and you can order a dessert that is a direct reference to that infamous cage scene. That is how much attention this character has. And yet most people in the Otome community think he’s crazy but in a lol so crazy kinda way XD but Toma’s behaviour is so callous so frequently and to such a triggering degree, its no laughing matter. I swear, the people who like Toma (even in an ironic sense) are probably Reylo/Catradora stans.

Definitely Kohaku Sumeragi’s work on Bustafellows. She makes the typical anime style look so expressive and lively. She’s not afraid to make her characters look silly, albeit to some restrictions cos we need our characters to still look pretty. Also the amount of detail in each character’s outfit without it looking too detailed is brilliant. Although she definitely needs to work on giving the women more prominent noses and stop giving characters like Teuta the baby doll eyes and bulk up Luka a bit. I want my muscular women

Worst Otome artwork

Suoh’s artwork is so fucking shit. Jesus Christ. does she draw all her characters so young, it’s fucking gross! For example, this is the MC, Shino in one of the games Suoh worked on, Dairoku: Agents of Sakuratani. Shino’s age isn’t listed but she’s supposed to be a young adult. Also her character designs in general are so

Worst off, there’s no lighting, barely any shading. Her expressions are extremely limited. Her colours are flat and lifeless. They look like literal cardboard cutouts. I already know I'm gonna get boo'd by some members of the team if I say I love them all equally-- they've seen first hand how quickly I buckle when it comes to Percy hahhh-- but it is true that I love every one of our characters. Each romance route gives me massive brainrot (I'm currently in my Jamie era) for their own reasons and each character is simultaneously easy and difficult to write for. But no matter what, I have fun in every instance. As for who I would get along with the best, that would be Deja, Cameron, and Reynah. Hah, they were written to be great friends after all.

1. Matcha flavours!!

Especially in Milk tea, sweets and desserts! (Mainly because it’s not overly sweet when done well, and as someone who famously does not like sweets, it can be a blessing when I’m pressured* into getting a little treat while out with friends)

2. Villainess Otome Genre!

Look, okay, just hear me out. I know it’s an overused cliche now, but when I’d just broke into it there were very few that had comprehensible English translations, so I feel like I got the golden scoop. And I’m not as much of an avid reader of manga/manwha/manhua as I was a couple years ago, so I’m not bombarded with rip offs and trend jumpers all the time. That being said, my number 1 fave villainness manga is Hamefura! (My Next Life As A Villainness) (also!! New VN Coming for it on the switch?!? I’m so excited!!)

My beloved Bakarina is the golden standard of idiot MC dialed up to 100% and she IS my daughter.

3. Isekai genre!

Yet another overused cliche, but I’m not defending myself this time lmao. As almost every isekai fan knows, the medium is over flowing with shitty-lack-lustre-power-fantasy-harem-building but every once in a while (read: every once in a million years lmao) you’ll come across a read that is generally really interesting, whether it be through a new twist on the concept or just really great characters and world-building. A particular favourite of mine is Campfire Cooking. A more recent entry (though it might be a little old now? I don’t watch often.) but it’s basically just ‘salary man makes food for magical dog who happens to have the personality of a cat’ with a bit of monsters and worldbuilding sprinkled in. 100/10 highly reccomend (AroAce bonus: there is no romance or love interest 🥰)

Edit: campfire cooking was originally a light novel I believe, but I found it through the manga - which has an amazing and really unique artstyle that the anime COMPLETELY BUTCHERED (also I love my silly dragon dork Elrand(yes it’s ripped straight from ‘Elrond’(yes I thought it was very funny and a cute lil nod)))

4. Retro/Vintage Aesthetic!

This mainly applies to furniture and decoration, I’ve grown up with a lot of retro things around myself since my parents are a fair bit older than the norm for my generation, and there’s just something so cosy about it. You’ve probably heard me ramble about it at some point in our servers together but I’m planning on getting a lot of retro furniture for myself in the coming months. I’d love to own vintage clothes but the masc leaning pieces tend to be too restricting for my tastes, I prefer looser, more casual outfits.

5. Food!!!

Self explanatory. But just in case: as someone with very little emotional or sentimental connection to physical objects and an overwhelming lack of object permanence, pretty much the only thing that is guaranteed to consistently make me happy is good food. In particular I’m partial to Japanese and Korean dishes, but Malaysian food is pretty high up there too :3

final performance thoughts (kisa's route) and I guess just overall thoughts on the game.

the thing is, I did expect the final arc to be a bit (thematically) underwhelming because it's hard to follow up oh rama havenna when both the play and the lead up to it was perfectly executed. and I mean, I was right, but I'm still a little bit disappointed lol. I see what ishida and towada wanted to do with the "jack jeanne" role, and I was really hoping it would land hard during kisa's route. it didn't hurt the game, but it also just. could've been more.

some thoughts on sissia of the central nation:

great music, probably has some of the best costumes for the cast. jj being a visual novel definitely removes some of the showmanship but I understand how sissia would be amazing to see live. it's like if you watch a mix of the greatest showman and les miserables. the border performance is like if a circus performed on the barricade from les mis.

I'm sure ishida and towada was itching to write a greater message with sissia but they're at least aware that they're writing an otome game lol

I think because all the actors have already gone through their character development in previous arcs, the rehearsals seemed a bit too easy? sissia rehearsals have to accommodate seven routes, so I imagine there are individual conflicts in each LI route. but when it comes to kisa's route, neji didn't really give anyone a challenging role. I realize that my favorite element of the story is when actors struggle to connect with their character, and there wasn't much of that in kisa's route. and because kisa's route focuses on sissia's relationship with the kielce troupe instead of individuals, there is a loss of intimate character moments that usually make neji's plays so good

the conflict was more around quartz vs amber. it's nice, but man I kinda wish the winter performance rehearsals was saved for the final performance because having neji give every single quartz member challenging roles to overcome for the finale with the help of kisa acting as the glue that keeps them together? and them winning because of it? feels like a better way to show that "gear" metaphor they love to use

but I also prefer that mitsuki was the one doing that during the winter performance, so idk. I get it

(watsonian) you know, I was gonna say that I can't believe that neji thinks sissia is one of his best plays when oh rama havenna exists, but actually, that's very in character lmao. neji himself didn't understand what made oh rama havenna entertaining. he's a writer whose inspiration can sometimes work on a deeply unconscious level sometimes.

I also just realized what else was lacking in kisa's route. I wish there was more improv!!! every quartz play has an improv scene that's designed to go straight to the actor's heart. sure, sou did improvise his monologue and kisa did tsuki's line at the beginning, but it's not the saaaame. it's not the same as figaro riling up charles riling up mary, or rukiora/mitsuki's "that applies to you too", or neji and kisa reworking mukai's characterization the day before the performance without telling anybody. I wish someone had thrown an improv scene at sissia. or even better, maybe kisa met eyes with chui in the audience and went off-script.

I like the exploration of gender expression in the game, so I was disappointed that they didn't really do more with the jack jeanne role. they SAY it's a revolutionary concept in univeil but like. there isn't anything in the script in kisa's route that really highlights how she's neither/both jack or/and jeanne. again, doesn't really hurt the game and its overarching themes, but it just could've been more. it could've landed harder. maybe it's highlighted more in the other routes though (I have high hopes for mitsuki to at least touch on this), so we'll see.

the closest we get is mitsuki and mare's commentary on it, as well as the audience's, but like. that's outside perspective. the actual play itself doesn't really do anything about it? neither does kisa's voice acting lend itself to being ambiguous about gender, which was supposedly the goal. if anything, it was closer to her voice acting as maiden. I thought her voice acting for chicchi and charles were closer to what the jack jeanne role intended, but that's just me

but!! for all the finale lacked, chui made up for all of it. which is ironic, but really, there's like so many things going on with the neji/kisa/chui dynamic on a relationship and theme level. love whatever's going on with them. I am petitioning for sui ishida to write a side story where they're all amber students

anyway, kisa is a great protagonist and I'm really glad all her lines are voice acted because I don't actually self-insert that much in these games. going through the other routes will be painful because this is 80% common route, but I am also so glad the common route is long but sprinkled with a lot of flavor text (I finished one route and I've only gone through 21% of the text). very slow burn. I'm also the kind of person who usually would just do 1-2 routes and move on, but because the common route is so long, all of the characters have endeared themselves to me, so now I do want to go through all the routes. amazing.

but I have to make the executive decision to do neji and mitsuki's route last because if I finish them first, I really will probably not do anyone else's routes. to me, neji is the deuteragonist of the game even if he's not intended to be.

My Thoughts On The “Discourse”

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of accusations of NuraMago having “problematic content” in regards to the ages of characters, and I just wanted to make one big post addressing all the arguments with one fell swoop.

Of course the real answer here is that it doesn’t matter that much morally because it’s fiction, but that’s the boring response. I want to engage these people on the same level and address their actual arguments, so as to not let one of my favorite series get slandered and misrepresented without proper analysis being done on it.

The first thing to bring up, is Nurarihyon marrying Youhime when she was 15, and Rihan marrying Wakana when she was around 17 (guess it runs in the family). These are, I will admit, kind of weird. With Wakana it’s not QUITE as bad, but Youhime’s case is pretty clear-cut. Considering the time period, I think it makes sense for the author to have written it that way (in that same arc, her own father was getting ready to sell her into prostitution, so this was just kind of a thing back then), but for Nurarihyon as a character it’s definitely not a great look.

Next, onto Setsura and Rihan. While there’s not any definitive proof that Setsura loves Rihan in the same way she loves Nurarihyon, there are certainly a lot of details that suggest it to be the case, and the rest of this post will be operating under that assumption (that’s a topic for another time). Essentially, Setsura helped raise Rihan when he was a child, he developed a crush on her, he grew up and she (presumably) started liking him back, but by this point it was already too late, his feelings had changed and he ended up marrying Otome instead. This is a deeply unfortunate situation, but what it definitely isn’t, is grooming. That’s not what that term means, and would imply Setsura was psychologically priming Rihan to be more susceptible to her or some insidious shit like that. No, she was just raising him normally, he thought he liked her for a while, and then he grew out of it, that’s all that happened.

And finally we arrive at the thing people actually care about, the real meat of this discourse, Rikuo x Tsurara. There are two main arguments used here to invalidate their relationship, that Tsurara groomed Rikuo, and that Tsurara is an adult while Rikuo is a child. For the first one, it’s basically the Setsura and Rihan example all over again, except Rikuo’s crush didn’t happen immediately, it seems to have taken a while to form and didn’t fade away like Rihan’s. Those specifics aside, the same logic as before applies here.

The second point, however, is more complicated. On the matter of Tsurara’s age, we know she was probably a few years old when she arrived at the Nura Clan, ten years went by, and then she wrote a letter back to her mother, at a point after Rikuo’s birth but before Rihan’s death. This could only have taken place from 1997 to 2002, meaning she arrived at the clan anywhere between 1987 and 1992, and was born even earlier than that. This would mean that by 2011 (the end of the series), she had been with the clan anywhere from 18 to 24 years, so unless Yuki-Onna have their own weird system of aging, she would most definitely be an adult, just a petite adult.

Rikuo, meanwhile, seems to exist in a paradox; on one hand, his human form looks like a kid and goes to middle school, while his youkai form looks and acts just like his father and grandfather in their primes, and is in every imaginable sense coded as an adult. Coupled with the fact that the youkai age of adulthood is said to be 13, it can be hard to make heads or tails of this. The most intuitive explanation I can think of is that his youkai form is an adult and his human form is a child, which is kind of supported by how his two states are portrayed as not merely transformations of the same person (like when his bodyguards take on human disguises at school), but separate personalities within himself who can interact with each other, as shown during the Tsurara sakazuki scene.

To add to this confusion, in extra chapter chapter 210.2 (best chapter ever, if you know you know) there’s a scene where Kana, Yura, Tsurara, and Kejourou are all suggested as possible brides for Rikuo in the near future. The fact that 13 year-old schoolgirls can be put next to centuries-old youkai women in this context without anyone batting an eye suggests to me that Rikuo is in fact considered both a kid and an adult, or rather, it switches depending on his form. (A 13 year-old human Rikuo marrying another 13 year-old would admittedly still be kind of strange, though…)

So, it would be fine for Kana or Yura to be with his human form, and then for Tsurara or Kejourou to be with his youkai form, I guess? That’s some ammunition for the people who support a harem ending, if nothing else.

Whether this makes the situation better or worse is up for you to decide, perhaps in the act of defending the series I actually made it look worse in some of your eyes, but eh, shit happens. My goal wasn’t to blindly defend it but rather to look at the evidence fairly and try to sort things out as best I could, so do with this information what you will. Shin and Toma are brothers/friends in every route (including Ikki’s where they didn’t grow up together but met later on and were just as close) and this applies to kent and Ikki too, mine and Sawa are always friends despite Mine not thinking so and in amnesia crowd there’s a little event where they all have a ‘family dinner’, Orion refusing to leave the heroine to be in pain alone like in the firework bit in Ukyo’s route or in Shin’s suspense route,

Yes the romance is idk there but it’s an otome game it has to be, but none of them are soulmates in every universe in any way but platonic (sorry Ukyo, you did try bud) and idk I think that’s weirdly nice? Like Shin, Kent, Toma and Ikki are never always romantically involved or crushing on the heroine in every route, they’re not always soulmates in a romantic sense with her. The romantic love doesn’t stand in every universe but the platonic does.

Tbh I think there’s something weirdly precious to me about the idea that in every universe Toma’s being doting and strict on Shin and Shin’s playing cards with Toma and Kent scolding Ikki and Ikki being a little shit in every universe,

Ukyo does kinda get left out of this a lil bit which is sad bc I do love him but still, my point stands,

i wish there was an option in dating sims/otome games to design the mc's personality.

often times the personality of MC is either "sweet bubbly girl" who lets the LI walk all over her which is not only misogynistic, it's also just boring from a narrative point?? the same applies to other common characterization which can be basest described as "girlboss" who takes no shit.

both of these personalities could apply to people, and i'm not hating on anyone who enjoys either of these character foundations, i just feel like there should be a customization!!

like maybe a circular spectrum so that it's easier from a coding perspective, while still honoring the various types of characters.

and of course, there should be more gender options available! even coming from a big business persona, these companies are missing out on an entire market. not only are they losing profit, they're also actively excluding many groups from their games :(

would love to hear others thoughts on this, so feel free to expand.

edit: i would also like to bring up the fact that in just about every one of these games, the MC is white. which for obvious reasons is fucked up.

so to summarize, there is no reason that these game companies shouldn't allow players to customize their MC to a degree. and by not allowing us this, they are actively harming not only their fan base, but also themselves.

Actually, you know what the funniest thing about shipping Leaf or any of the first four gen girls is? THEY'RE ALL WAY OLDER. You'd think the biggest complaint fandom would have is going nooOOO they're ELEVEN. Except for the part where Gen 1 and 3 happen at the same time. As do Gen 2 and 4. With a three year timeskip. And then a TWELVE year timeskip. Two more; BW2 and XY happen at the same time. Add another year for Alola. Red and Blue are stated to be like. I think it was 31 in the S/M/USUM games last I checked. Leaf would be almost 10 years older than Leon (his Charmander could've been a child of Red's Charizard for all we know! I actually like to write Kantrio visiting Galar and inspiring the next gen of trainers in game-verse.) Instead I'm mostly meddling around in the anime-verse which is mostly a found-family fic so all my ships are really just joked about. Doesn't mean I haven't recycled through a ship or two as I was playing around with the fic though lol, but alas the interest wore off and I need to stick with my themes. I'm curious though, is Leaf and Green endgame for you? Also LOVE whatever you're doing including Mizuki in your Au. I think the funniest thing about the core series timeline topic is the fact that technically, according to several developers, there actually IS no true canon timeline.

Masuda: It starts to get a little complicated if you pay too much attention to timelines. Like, there might be a professor that appears, and it wouldn’t make sense at all if we applied that kind of timeline logic. So we try not to apply it too rigorously.

I stated this in the last ask I answered, but Sisterhood operates under a different timeline than the "canon" one. For example, the events of SwSh take place after HGSS/DPP and before SM/USUM, which takes place before B2W2/SV. BW also takes place at the same time as XY, and between FRLG/ORAS and HGSS/DPP.

I do have a visual guide, for reference.

As for Leaf and Green being endgame, I've considered Sisterhood being somewhat similar to an otome game, in the sense that the protagonists have a selection of boys they could date in a series of alternate story paths. However, for most of them there is someone who I consider their "true" love interest in Sisterhood.

For Leaf, this is Green. For Touko, this is N. For Haruka, this is Steven. For Hikari/Akari, this is Volo. And so on.

Some of the male protagonists are the sibling of the female protagonists in Sisterhood: Leaf is Red's younger twin sister, Touko is Touya's older twin sister, Gloria is Victor's younger sister by two years, and Juliana is the older twin sister of Florian. As a sidenote, Gloria and Juliana are first cousins.

Even when they normally wouldn't appear in canon if not chosen as the protagonist, every character has a role in Sisterhood somewhere. Kris is Kotone's friendly (but still tough) rival!

And speaking of Leaf's Raichu, 'Kaminari' was sort of a beta name until I found something else I liked better.

This ended up being 'Lumine'.

Brothers Conflict (Brilliant Blue) Part 6 - Asahina Wataru Route

I still think it's super weird how Wataru has a route but oh well we'll see how it goes lol! It's so cute how he insisted on getting Ema to go "ah~" so he can feed her ice cream lolll. Awww, how cute of Wataru to cover Ema from the water splashing on her during the dolphin show. I love how Yusuke and them teach him gentlemanly stuff hahaha. LMAO when Ema was telling Subaru to take off his jacket so she can wash his with hers since they're both wet, and Wataru was like taking clothes off is something you do for fun at night isn't it😂😂 Lolll at the CG with Wataru hugging Ema in her swimsuit, he's just a kid!!😂

I know it should be expected since it's Wataru's route but it's just so weird when Ema thinks about Wataru as a potential love interest lolll. The kid's like a baby lol! Anyway, it was funny when Maho helped Ema out and dragged Masaomi away at the cultural festival so she could spend it with Wataru lolll, and when she said she wanted to chase after Masaomi since he's nice and is a doctor lol. So awkward when Ema thought about how Wataru would grow up after Miwa said Ema should marry one of her sons😅😅😅 Ema, nooo lol😂 It was really sweet how Wataru said that he was crying because Ema was crying, such a soft little kid😭 Even though it's not as emotional and sweet as the with the other brothers (when she finds out she's adopted), it's cute how Wataru tells her in his own way that they should all go home because she's not alone and that everyone is looking for her so she gets the gist of their feelings in the end. Wataru is such a boss though, he told Masaomi to wait over there so he could cheer Ema up himself hahaha, I was wondering why Masaomi didn't do anything even though he was there lol. It's super reassuring to hear from Wataru that Ema will never be alone again because he'll always be there for her every Christmas, that's really sweet. HAHAHA, I love Tsubaki, he really knows how to get Wataru to follow him and cause trouble😂😂😂 Legit died when I saw Yusuke's test paper on the Christmas tree and the 1 point score hahahaha, and Subaru's boxers with his name on it😂😂 It was obvious the condoms were from Kaname's room but lmao that they're like in purple packaging 😂 Masaomi is the oldest but most innocent, he just has the first version of usa-tan (the rabbit doll) hahahaha.

I ended up binging the rest because I wanted to finish it asap since it just feels too weird to play an otome game but keep hanging with a literal child hahaha. I think Wataru writing his wish on the ema hoping that he'll be Ema's boyfriend one day was cute. However it's kinda silly how completely oblivious Ema is even though she caught a glimpse of it lol. To be fair, I guess you wouldn't think a kid is interested in dating you haha. I think them making a promise to basically be together forever was cute but yeah, the CGs are nice because it feels like Ema really is taking care of Wataru nicely haha. It was kinda funny when Wataru said he wanted to get into the same school as Iori because he wanted to be "high spec" enough to not lose to his brothers loll! At least contrary to his cute and oblivious looks, Wataru is actually very smart and athletic haha. Okay, I didn't expect to see an older Wataru lol!! That felt so weird!? I'm so used to his cutesy voice lol! And then the kiss CG omggg, very unexpected and still quite uncomfortable because he's like a middle schooler? Yeah nah man loll.

Overall, considering it's a route for a little kid, it actually wasn't too bad. Wataru was pretty cute, innocent and very sweet. He learns a lot of random gentlemanly things from Kaname and Tsubaki, some good some bad (but hilarious) so it's always such a highlight to see what he's learnt from his brothers and how he applies it to his life hahaha. He gets shy and a little jealous sometimes but he's mostly a very kind boy who Ema watches over and you can see why she's attached to him because he's very cute and tries his best at whatever he does. Him mimicking his brothers is hilarious and I loved seeing them throughout the game haha. But yeah, I think it would have been okay as a more platonic route because Wataru kissing her at the end was just so awkward, he's still a baby to me!! Lol. Otherwise, the route is basically filled with events of how it feels to hang with a cute kid and it really delivers in that area, not that I needed it though because I want a man LOL.

Seriously the "daddy"/"master" tipe of archetype in otome never appealed to me, I just can't take them seriously, however if you pull the uno reverse card and make me belive the character is one archetype... turns out to be the other THEN I get interested

It's the duality of "i need everyone to rely on me or else i will explode" to "i have bee awake for 7 days straight please let me rest". And yes I think he is a Mary Sue bc powerfully demon but honestly that just makes when he breaks better. Also blood. If you may not know I like villains so that's a given.

Akiyasu Kurahashi! A rant!

Aki was one of the characters that grew on me. Around during the events of the dawn book I hated what he did. This applies to Kagemaru also (later on I fell for him as well, but that's for another rant)

Aki looked like an antagonist but I was still curious about what lay behind that exterior... what forced him to do things he did? the entire picture..

I was curious but I never thought I'd end up loving him. My love for him grew gradually... similar to the gradual way he changed... It almost felt natural and now I truly love him and he's one of my fav characters in ARR. I think its the character growth plus the time gap... made him loveable.

In an event, they show him regretting his actions, feeling insecure about his status... he also questions himself if he deserves Mc's love... and that truly broke my heart. Aki's character and his feelings are as real as they can be... from someone who's done sinister deeds to someone walking the road to restoration, his growth is something I loved to witness...

I'm so glad I gave his mainstory a chance. What am I saying! I loved ARR so much that I read all lovers books, even the books of the guys who are not my type. But to be honest they are all adorable, really. I have many favorites in ARR which is why I'm reluctant to accept the ending we got in the EN app.

Back to Akiyasu, I think a good amount of time had passed between the events of dawn before his book was released. He moved away from the MC and the others and underwent lots of emotional changes. (Yes, he still struck with Kagemaru, but even so that was to pay him back, wasn't it? Aki became withdrawn and lonely. He'd always bee that way, tho he was with Tatsu. His quest for revenge never really let him live a free life) I

In the mean time we as readers/MC kind of naturally became more forgiving. (I kind of liked Aki in the start, too, though he was bad. Not the docile Aki, nope. He was sugary sweet and it was actually very suspicious. )

I loved it when he showed his true colors. More like, loved the challenge he posed and how Futaba dealt with it. In the end, when he couldn't land the final blow was when I knew he had some good in him. (of course I knew he had to have it. this wouldn't be otome if he didn't.)

His book had a lot of self loathing on his part. His regret was evident and I totally enjoyed every bit of his and Futaba's journey to the end scene...

When he holds her and cries saying how he can't bear the burdens of his sins alone...

(now this is different from yura's where the MC jumps to being in love with him as soon as he "corrects" his mistake of attempting to sacrifice her! I just couldn't connect to them there... Nevertheless, I forgave Yura. I even like him. He's funny and dotes a lot on Gaku. Just my feelings for him have always been platonic and his book did nothing to make me fall in love.)

Aki and MC have come a long way and the mutual support they got, the way they watch out for each other, do little things, go on sweet little dates (while getting a little jealous and possessive at times), I loved all of that and I've come to love Aki a lot.... Ryohei's voice while he voices the "real" Aki is my favorite haha. I won't start about my favorite ARR seiyu's voices because that'd make another essay

This year's JP app Akiyasu's birthday story looks soon good... I'd buy it if I earn an SSR ticket! lol I'm spending a lot on COD this month so don't think I can spend more.
