the way teenage bounty hunters DESERVED a second season. like what a tightly written, quippy, funny little show with so much heart. there’s so much good going on in it but things I particularly love:

Twin themes!! There’s so much good foreshadowing surrounding the big reveal (iykyk) and there’s also so much DOUBLING. Double lives especially is a big theme. Like, Debbie hiding Dana; sterling and Blair hiding their bounty hunting; the (functional) froyo shop being bowser’s bounty hunting lair; Terrance the lone wolf bounty hunter and bowser with his little “teen white savior” teammates; Yolanda’s sister who is a perfect foil for her; miles hiding Blair from his family; sterling hiding april from Blair…and then april hiding sterling period.

And I guess the doubling is kind of showing like, here are all the possibilities and here’s what happens when we let love in and here’s what happens when we shut it out

so much good stuff about being from the American south. As someone who grew up in the south and who grew up visiting close family in Atlanta…it is cool as fuck the way the south is portrayed in all of its complexity. The show does not shy away from issues of race, religion, SES, etc SPECFICALLY in Atlanta and manages to do it in a way that doesn’t come across as heavy handed. This show could ONLY be set in the south—it would be a fundamentally different show in any other setting

Also, like I said with the doubling points above, this show is full of secrets and secret keeping!!! But yet a fundamental point of the show is that being silenced is one of the worst things that can happen to a human being. There’s a scene where Blair is telling sterling that her dad yelled at her and that the worst part of all is that he told her to Be Quiet! And like in some ways that scene highlights what a loving household Blair has grown up in that the one of the worst things her Dad has ever said to her is be quiet (not even shut up)…but it really made me be like wow being told to stop questioning and be quiet IS something terrible. It’s a denial and a violation of our right to use our voices

and like it’s not a coincidence that in the final ep Dana gags sterling. Because the way sterling is talking to her is powerful and you can tell it is making her hesitate and question her whole life

so yeah anyway watch teenage bounty hunters! Or if you haven’t in a while, it’s definitely worth a rewatch

Coming out to herself as bi was a big step for Sterling. But I think her deep and desperate concern and love for April shines through esp in the debate episode when April blows up at her about walking away and leaving her on the swingset. She would change it all if she could. Take back all five years of how things played out, if she could just have April back and not so mad at her. Even if it meant no Luke, even if it meant Blair would hate her, nobody gets Sterling like April does. Nobody gets April like Sterling does. It seems to be a throw away line in episode 3 but it's also the episode title. "This must be how dumb kids feel." Sterling and April are both overachievers surrounded by underachievers. They both take pride in good spelling and correct pronunciation. They thrive on points and well-done projects. And once everything else falls away, they are honest with each other. Like intensely earnestly deeply honest. April about her dad, Sterling about her feelings. They are the person each of them needs to feel most completely themselves in a world that refuses to understand them.

Changes to the Popular Pairing List

Over nearly 9 years of Femslash Revolution, we have watched the popularity of many, many pairings rise and fall again. In order to better reflect this, we have decided to switch how we define our popular pairing list, which determines which pairings are too popular to be posted on Rarepair Thursdays.

Previously, posts were added to the list when they had appeared on the blog over 20 times across its whole duration. Under the new system, we will look at the number of appearances in the 10,000 most recent posts, which reflects approximately the last 18 months of content. Any pairing with more than 10 posts in that time span will be added to the list, while older pairings which no longer receive so many posts will be removed.

April is shook and so am I

um hi?

can we just talk about this scene for a minute?? so i went into this show with absolutely no idea that these two would get together at some point, so when April locked the door and turned around and that bass music started bumpin, i was understandably SHOOK.

bc wow, not only did they give a romantic storyline to one character who started the season losing her virginity to her long time boyfriend and another character who’s in a straight-straight alliance...

but i was also shook bc of APRIL’S FACE.

do you see the desperate longing and yearning on this child’s face, in her EYES?? someone sedate me i’m

this look.

this look doesn’t just come out of nowhere.

April’s been quite possibly waiting for this moment (believing full well it would never come) since the 5th fucking grade, when Sterling not so subtly gave her away. skip ahead 5 or 6 years, and Sterling finally wants her back. and not just back, but BACK.

Sterling is one of April’s Adeles who come back from Arizona!

but instead of feeling threatened by April’s intensity—like the actual Adele—Sterling always returned that same intensity head on (and is now returning it to the point where it matches April’s), so not only am i shook, April’s shook.

and by April’s own words, she is intense, and so she buried that shit so deep (not her sexuality but her feelings for Sterling) that the moment her feelings are reciprocated, like that VERY moment, April’s like “it’s on,” proceeds to lock the world out, and jumps Sterling’s bones, quite literally crashing their faces together without a moment’s hesitation.

i mean, she barely put any thought to it, leading me to believe she’s definitely imagined kissing Sterling countless times before.

Sterling—the girl who was supposed to be her, quote, mortal enemy, like, less than a week ago. Sterling—the girl who ditched her in elementary school when she got her first bf. Sterling—the girl she always seemed to compare her wins (and losses) to, even when Sterling had no idea.

Sterling, Sterling, Sterling.

always Sterling.

April had been competing against Sterling for years to be the best, when in actuality, all she really wanted was to be seen by Sterling as the best.

but the poor baby gay had been suppressing those feelings for Sterling for so long that she confused a complicated crush with “i must crush her,” only for a kiss from said crush to wake her the hell up.*
