My Collection: Ampharos
Tumblr media
Meet Vaporwave, my shiny Ampharos! He’s one of the first Aprimon that I hatched in Ultra Moon. He hatched in Poké Pelago which is a great way to passively hatch a minimum of 18 eggs a day. It took 221 eggs without the shiny charm which is considered “above odds”.
Tumblr media
I like shiny Mareep because not only are the colors striking but they’re very easy to identify at a glance. Some shinies, like Alolan Vulpix, require a bit more attention when hatching or you might miss them. In order to breed Vaporwave, I carefully went into the wild and caught a wild Mareep in a love ball. Then I started the process of breeding better IVs. I do this generally while shiny hunting because I don’t do too much with competitive but I want Vaporwave to be able to put up a fight in the Battle Tree so I can eventually get him to the glory that is shiny Mega Ampharos.
Tumblr media
Personally I think Flaaffy is the most boring point in the shiny evolution phase. Shiny Flaaffy looks very much like normal Flaaffy to me so I didn’t take many pictures.
Tumblr media
I’ve been in love with Ampharos since Pokémon Gold. Something about lighthouses and a Pokémon that helps lost people find their way with a beacon of light seems peaceful. Or maybe I relate because I live by a lot of lighthouses. Either way, Ampharos is always a part of my team when one is available. Not only are they cute but they can be power houses in game.
The shiny for Ampharos is great in my opinion. I love the pink, I think it looks great alongside the traditional yellow (while I showcase my shiny Pokémon here I also have many regular Pokémon who I adore equally). The deep purple of the forehead and tail gems reminds me of a sunrise when combined with Ampharos’s other colors.
Tumblr media
If you would like a shiny Ampharos and don’t care about the ball, the easiest way to obtain one would be to SOS chain one around Paniola ranch. If you do care about the ball and would like one in a Love ball, I’m offering a few of Vaporwave’s siblings that are all in love balls who would produce offspring with the potential to be shiny in a love ball when bred with a foreign ditto. These are free to a good home so just drop me a comment or DM if you want one.
Until then, happy hunting!✨

My Collection: Espeon
Tumblr media
Meet Serren, a very special shiny coming from Pokémon Y. I was on Twitter talking to some of my friends about my struggles to breed a shiny (I had not yet been successful) and one of my friends told me that she had caught a shiny Eevee a while back and offered her to me.
I know not everyone is a fan of Eevee but I’ve always loved Eevee and all of its evolutions. Isn’t the concept of a Pokémon that perfectly adapts to its surroundings interesting?
Tumblr media
I was really taken aback by my friend’s generosity. I asked her if she was sure that she didn’t mind trading Eevee but she was insistent. Now every time I adventure with Serren I think of her, and isn’t that a wonderful thing?
Upon receiving her I knew I wanted to evolve her. Admittedly my favorite Eeveelution is Vaporeon but I already had an event Vaporeon from another game. Eventually I decided on Espeon because I found the green a really striking difference from the normal purple and it reminded me of my friend who is a big fan of Saria, from the Legend of Zelda series (she has green hair).
Tumblr media
I knew when I found my old games that she would be one of the first that I’d want to move over. Here she is in a cave because she’s so green that she blended in with the grass in the moonlight! You can still see the shine of the moon around her neck for whatever reason.
Seeing her in 3D like this was pretty amazing. I used to love playing with her in Pokémon Amie so it brought back tons of memories having her in the camp.
Eevee and it’s eeveelutions are reliably in all of the Pokémon games now so I’m confident that Serren will accompany me on many more of my Pokémon travels in the future. I’m so delighted to have her as a part of my team again!
Tumblr media
If you would like your own shiny Espeon there are a few places that you can encounter them in the wild but they don’t really spawn often enough to do Overworld Hunting in my opinion. You will probably be better off breeding for one with the Masuda Method.
Eevee is a very popular shiny choice so it is incredibly easy to find them from foreign games, as Aprimon or both! If you have a specific evolution in mind you can get really creative with the type of ball you want them to be in.
Breeding for a female Eevee is very difficult. About 88% of Eevees born are male so you are incredibly likely to breed a male shiny. If your heart is set on a female for whatever reason, be prepared to hatch a LOT of eggs.
Tumblr media
Do you have a Pokémon that reminds you of a friend? Tell me your stories in the comments. Remember, if you have art or a story you want to share about shiny Pokémon I will happily reblog you here (PG only please so everyone can enjoy)! Until next time, happy hunting! ✨

Aprimon - What Are They?
Tumblr media
Aprimon are Pokémon who have been caught in a special, hard to obtain pokeball. When a shiny is caught in one of these, it significantly increases the value of the Pokémon in trades because you essentially have a rare mon inside of a rare ball.
What are Apriballs?
Apriballs are hard to find, rare balls within the Pokémon series. They are generally made from Apricorns in the game, thus the name. However, a few other rare balls get lumped in with them too. Each Apriball has its own special attribute but these were normally used in the older games where they were more numerous. Now Apriballs are mostly used for aesthetic. Here’s a comprehensive list of Apriballs for your reference.
Fast Ball
Heavy Ball
Moon Ball
Lure Ball
Friend Ball
Love Ball
Level Ball
Dream Ball
Beast Ball
What are Bank Balls?
Bank balls are Pokeballs that were only used in older Gens, thus the only way you can get them into more recent games is through Pokémon Bank. That makes them extremely rare. Here is a list of bank balls:
Safari Ball
Sport Ball
Other Rare Balls
The last two remaining rare balls are the Cherish ball (animation pictured above), which you can only get through Pokémon distributed online and the Master Ball, which you generally get one of per game although Sword/Shield offers you more. These balls cannot be passed down by their parents and instead their offspring will be hatched into a regular Pokeball.
Cherish Ball
Master Ball
Why Is This Important?
Aprimon are considered “high value trades” even when they are not shiny because of the rare balls they are in. Most non shiny Aprimon are used to breed higher value, shiny Pokémon because parents have a 50% chance of passing down their pokeball when bred with a Pokémon in the same egg type and 100% when bred with a ditto. Getting an Aprimon for breeding is a lot easier than taking the risk of trying to catch your preferred Pokémon in a ball.
This is a big deal for Masuda Method users who often use foreign dittos because this will guarantee a 100% chance of passing it down to their potentially shiny offspring.
My Growlithe, Amaterasu, in a Fast Ball (seen in my trainer’s hand). These balls are also coveted for their unique animations upon the Pokémon’s release.
How do I breed a shiny Aprimon?
If you have some Apriballs or Bank balls (all resulting Pokémon are pretty much dubbed Aprimon regardless of the ball) the safest thing to do is go out into the wild and catch a random Pokémon in the ball of your choice. Be sure to save your game before you use the ball, in case the Pokémon breaks free. If it does, soft reset your game my closing out of it without saving. Your game should then resume back to the point where you had the ball and you can try again until you catch the right Pokémon in the ball.
Then, you’ll want to Masuda method with a foreign language ditto, if you’re breeding for battle optimally this ditto will have 5IV or better stats and be equipped with a destiny knot. All of your resulting Pokémon will be in the right ball!
Tumblr media
Ditto never has a hard time looking for love.
Alternatively...
If you have some of the older games you can just catch a Pokémon in one of the balls and then import it up through Pokémon Bank and then Pokémon Home. The only problem with this is you’re going to be very limited in which Pokémon you can choose because they’ll need to exist in both the older game and Pokémon Sword/Shield.
I used my Apriballs, does that mean I can’t breed for them anymore?
Nope! All you need is a Pokémon who is already in the ball you want. Breeders give these away frequently through wonder/surprise trade and on Pokémon forums like r/Pokemontrades all the time. I’m even going to be giving away some here from time to time!
That’s all for Aprimon! I know the concept can be a bit confusing, especially since it’s essentially a community term, but if you have any questions feel free to drop a comment or DM! Remember, the most important thing is that your shiny ends up in the ball you want! Happy hunting! ✨

Shining Victories: Alolan Vulpix
It happened! After a staggering 1011 eggs finally Vulpix shines!
Tumblr media
That was a super long hunt and I feel pretty relieved that it’s over! As she was hatched in a Moon Ball that makes her my fourth shiny Aprimon. This is traditionally how you get shiny Aprimon, by carefully breeding regular Aprimon. She had a 50% chance of being in a Moon Ball and a 50% chance of being in a Love Ball so that element was a complete surprise!
Tumblr media
Here’s a tiny snapshot for now! More pictures are incoming. I’m going to take a few in Ultra Moon and then send her to Pokémon Shield to be with my other shiny Vulpix! She is proof that even though Masuda Method egg hatching can be long and tedious that eventually your efforts are always rewarded!

Pokémon Home: Your Easy Source for Aprimon
Tumblr media
Now that you know what Aprimon are let’s talk more about how to get them and manage them using Pokémon Home!
Wow, this Beldum is in a Sport Ball! And it’s Japanese! It would be so easy to breed for shiny Beldum in a Sport ball with this guy.
Tumblr media
And look at this! A Milcery in a dream ball! Shiny Alcremie would look awesome with a dream ball. There are so many Alcremie varieties that would look awesome paired with this ball.
Why are all of these Aprimon popping up in Pokémon Home? Because these are people’s Breedjects while they breed for stats, shinies and various other things. All of the leftovers get sent out through Surprise Trade. These leftovers are awesome opportunities for prospective shiny hunters though! Most of the work on these guys are done stats wise, they’re already in an apriball and a lot of them are from foreign language games. They’re basically ready to go.
Tumblr media
I typically pick up between two or three Aprimon per surprise trade (note that if you don’t pay for Pokémon Home you only get three slots but it’s still worth doing). I trade all of my Breedjects here and in return I get new opportunities! It’s actually pretty cool.
Again, shinies in an Apriball are considered very high value trades! Having all of the starting work done for you is a big deal. Pokémon Home has been an amazing resource in that regard.
That’s all for this post! I hope this helps some of you shiny breeders working in Sword or Shield. Happy hunting! ✨

Shining Victories: Slowpoke
Tumblr media
I was feeling a little bummed out about my well above odds shiny Vulpix hunt and decided to take a small break to snag another shiny for motivation. Honestly, I have so many Vulpix in my boxes I knew it was time to transfer them to Pokémon Bank but it felt bad without the promise of a shiny!
I always have good luck with SOS chaining and today was no exception. After only 88 Slowpoke I came across shiny Slowpoke in all of his glory. Why Slowpoke you may ask? I don’t know, I just think they’re cute! Does anyone else find them super endearing?
Tumblr media
Because I am completely insane (I know this is the second time I’ve done this but I really can’t recommend it because you only get one ball in the game) I decided to take a BIG risk and try to make him an Aprimon by throwing my only level ball at him. Luckily for me, he cooperated and with great risk came great reward! He is officially my third shiny Aprimon!
I took a quick shot of my 3DS to show you all what the stats of a SOS Pokémon look like. This is pretty typical for a Pokémon caught reasonably early in the chaining process. In SOS chaining the stats of your Pokémon are more likely to improve the longer your chain goes, so a chain of 200, while tedious, might pay off whereas a chain of 20, while lucky, will probably have stats comparable to any random Pokémon.
Tumblr media
More pictures to come soon! I’m going to send him to my Ultra Moon game, evolve him and then send him to Galar! Hmm... I think I’m going to need a few more Slowpoke... after all we’re going to need a Slowking now... and the Galarian variants...
