tips for gcses
revision-wise do what works best for YOU. teachers might be asking you to do practice questions, and your friends may be making 100s of flashcards, but if doing a simple mindmap helps you more than anything else, do that. i always felt like i wasnt revising enough but still did well
look at the structure for prev exams to know what to expect. this will help your revision and what to expect long answers on so you can revise it more
youtube videos are a massive help!! i recommend waking up 30 mins early to watch some youtube videos about some topics youre still unsure on the morning of the exam
dont be discouraged if you think you've done bad!! i told my teacher at the end of every paper we did that ive done awful, found it insanely difficult and for her to lower her expectations and i ended up getting an 8!!

i don't think there are words to express the feeling you get when a key topic in an exam that you spent hours learning is only one multiple choice mark.
YES I AM TALKING ABOUT THE FUCKING FOOD TESTS.

Its the way I put my heart and soul into my A-Levels as a straight A and A* student and came out with ABCC, when I've never even seen a C result on an exam I've done in my life. This is ridiculous.

Reminder that explaining concepts to someone else remains an awesome revision strategy.
Write out explanations for how you solve questions (with help from the mark scheme if you really struggle). It’ll help commit it to memory!
The memorising aspect of revision is something I really struggle with, so I think from now on that’s going to be one of my go-to methods to get stuff to stick.
If you don’t have someone you can send your explanations to, do it by yourself! I personally use a whiteboard :)
Anyway, have a good half term! Make sure to do your best to prepare for your exams, but also bear in mind that you need adequate rest to allow your brain time to process all the stuff you’re working on. Take care of yourself! I know you can do this! <3

english lit gcse tips!!
for poetry anthology use genius lyrics!! then remember 2/3 quotes and analysis from each poem
(also for poetry harder poems like tissue wont be used as its an open tier paper)
physics and maths tutor is your new best friend!! theres so much info which can be super overwhelming but theres loads of things on there that your teachers haven't thought of
i created paragraph plans (8-10 per book) using physics and maths tutor which, when in an exam, you just pick out the paragraphs that fit the question. remember its super easy to link things to eachother!!! if a question is on macbeths ambition you can link it to other (possibly more revised) themes like witchcraft etc

2.2 : DNA REPLICATION
Stages of cell division:
Nuclear division (nucleus divides)
Cytokinesis (cell divides)
Q: Why does the DNA have to be replicated?
A: To ensure that after division, the daughter cells have the genetic code needed to produce all required proteins needed to sustain them (eg. enzymes).
DNA replication is precise: Daughter cells are roughly genetically identical to parent cell.
4 requirements for DNA replication:
Presence of all 4 types of nucleotide
Presence of DNA polymerase
Source of chemical energy
Each DNA strand must act as a template
Process of DNA replication:
DNA gyrase untwists double helix
DNA helicase breaks hydrogen bonds between the genetic bases
Free nucleotides bind to exposed bases by complementary base pairing
DNA polymerase catalyses the bonding of the new phosphate-sugar backbone by phosphodiester bonds
Q: Why is DNA semi-conservative?
A: DNA is made up of 1 conserved polynucleotide strand from the DNA it was replicated from, and 1 new strand.
Evidence for semi-conservative replication:
Experiment was done where bacteria was grown in medium containing ¹⁵N.
The DNA in the bacteria was dense as the nitrogen in this DNA was the ¹⁵N isotope.
This bacteria was then moved to a medium with ¹⁴N.
In the next generation, the DNA became lighter because while the old strand of each DNA molecule was conserved and made with ¹⁵N, the new strand was made with ¹⁴N.
In the next generation after that, all strands were now made using ¹⁴N, and were thus lighter.
The density of the DNA at each stage was obtained by taking a sample of the bacteria at each interval, and homogenising and centrifuging it to separate the DNA.
