New year, new sketchbook, designed myself some Lavellans.

Can't decide whether I love or hate this sketchbook paper but oh well, here you are!

Some writing and headcanons after the cut.

Deshanna: The Keeper. A very skilled Healer and Herbalist, very patient and motherly. Strongly believes that the 90% of life's issues can be solved by just talking about it. Believes in fantasy therapy, her approach to prevent demonic possession is basically "Talk with me about things that bothers you, I don't care how gritty they are, if they're out they can't poison you, I won't tell and you'll learn to deal with them".

Pavyn: Keeper's Second l. He is actually 8 years older than Aisling, but he lazed out convinced that he was the First just because he was older and born in the clan, Aisling put some hard work into her magic and became First in his place right after she had her Vallaslin. He was so shocked he never really forgave her, the situation is bearable but a little tense (he doesn't really hate her, but took it rather personally). Will tease Aisling and act offended, will also defend her to death because he's the only one who can speak badly of her. A people's person, very extrovert, will put you at ease no matter what. Skilled with Arcane magic, a pretty decend Healer. Will retain all the smallest anecdotes and unconsequential facts that will make you laugh, actually has to struggle with dates.

Radha: Pavyn's younger sister, three years younger. Quiet, laid back kind of person who prefers action over work. According to plans, she should have been a mage and the Keeper's Second, but she never developed magic and so Aisling was brought in. She doesn't care much about it, considers Aisling the third sibling. Likes to know stuff, will stay silent and learn, read all kind of books and treaties. Rogue, dual-wielder, skilled with blades as much as she's a skilled historian. Very, very caring and protecting, she'll go South looking for Aisling when she'll stop replying to letters (partly because she doesn't want Leliana to read her personal correspondence, in Haven, partly because she's scared of giving the clan's position away).

Ydun: Ambitious AF, very Dalish, one of those people who at 8 just KNEW what they would have been and never strayed from path. In line to become the next Hunt Master, a very talented fighter with knives, and very decent with a bow. The clan is the first priority, she knows what she wants and won't shy back from getting it, in good or bad. Been with Aisling for 10 years, but in the end she was more into the narrative of the power couple they would have made and the whole "oh yeah you have Ghilan'nain's tattoos, I have Andruil's, this was meant to be". It was meant to be just because Aisling was too much crushing over her to say no or question, but Ydun basically took every decision. They talked of getting bonded a lot of times, the Keeper -who knew better- always convinced Aisling to wait some more. Until it was too much and Aisling dumped her, some months before she left for the Conclave. She's not bad, she's just too self-assured and not much of a listener.

Vyrina: She started talking of bonding ceremonies in late springs, with the whole forest in bloom, and of having ten children when she was a child, and she delivered. Bonded to another clan member -Fionn- very very soon, they struggled quite a bit to conceive. She's a healer, a very gentle and bubbly person, will fangirl about Elfroot with Aisling for the whole afternoon. Had a successful pregnancy after years of trying and two miscarriages, the birth was difficult but they managed. Child's named Aranehn ("my joy") and is an actual ray of sunshine, calls Aisling "auntie" because she was the one to grant a successful birth.

BTV Artober: ‘Elfroot’

Musetta: I'll write a cute, fluffy entry for 'elfroot,' where Solas and Lavellan pick elfroot together. It'll be so adorable. Let's go to the Hinterlands in-game for inspiration! Two hours later... after falling down cliffs, being eaten by bears, and getting lost looking for elfroot and rams: this story happens

This story features my poor Inquisitor, Aranehn, who had to put up with my terrible map skills while researching for the story. Sorry, Ara! I still love youuu :) Written for the BTV server's Artober event, for the prompt 'elfroot.' 500 word maximum.

“Where’s the Inquisitor?” Solas kept his voice as casual as possible, so as to not alert the others as to how worried he was. Aranehn wasn’t anywhere to be seen, and it would soon be dark.

Blackwall scoffed from his seat by the fire, buffing polish onto his breastplate. “Where else? Picking elfroot for the gardens. Again.” He grumbled under his breath. “Told her not to go near those woods, what with all the bears—”

“Bears?” Solas’s voice pitched at that, so much so that even the uncouth Blackwall stopped and stared at him. “You let her leave camp alone? In the Hinterlands? With bears? Are you mad?”

Blackwall protested. “She’s a hunter, insisted she’d fine alone. I—”

Solas threw his usual cautiousness to the wind and ran after her, heart in his throat.

‘You should be taking precautions,’ the voice in his head reminded him. ‘Have health potions with you. At least tell someone at camp where you’re going—’

His beloved Aranehn was in danger, there wasn’t time for that.

Solas crashed through the underbrush. “Aranehn?” he shouted, eyes wildly searching for her. “Aranehn.” Cold dread settled in his chest when there was no response. “Ara—”

A blood-curdling scream cut him off, and Solas broke into a run. The sun sank below the trees; it was so dark, he could barely see. Briars snatched his clothes, roots tripped him. Bloodied, breathless. His heart hammered in his ears. Something broke inside him as he sped through the trees, plummeting him into a realization. Aranehn wasn’t just a companion; despite everything, he cared for her. The only thing worse than seeing her harmed would be facing a future without her—

“She’s gone,” a voice hissed. Solas whipped his head around. There was no one.

“You’re too late, Wolf. You always are.”

He gripped his staff. “Show yourself,” he cried. A shadow darker than the rest of the shadows darted between the trees.

“You’ll endure, you always will. Alone forever.” A horrible shriek sounded behind him. Solas exclaimed in surprise; a hooded figure in tattered black slashed at him. It had no face, only row upon row of yellowing teeth.

Solas parried the despair demon’s attack, weaving a fire spell. A gout of flames engulfed it; he pinned the demon to a nearby pine with his staff-blade; the demon disintegrated with a howl.

He staggered towards a clearing; frost clung to branches and trunks. Spikes of ice bristled from the ground, bloody.

“Solas?”

He’d never heard a more beautiful sound. He rushed to her side. “Aranehn,” he choked on the lump in his throat. An ice spike had impaled her, but removing it here could be fatal. He gathered her things and carried her to camp.

“You came for me,” she whispered, leaning against his chest.

He pushed the hair from her face, blinking hard. “I’ll always come for you, love.”

Her smile was simultaneously tired and joyous. “‘Love?’”

“‘Love.’” He held her tightly as he walked. “Forever.”
