In case you’re wondering about that baby seal video you reblogged, it shows a newborn ringed seal pup getting his first swimming lesson. His name is Mizore, and he was born in Osaka aquarium on the first of April last year. Other adorable seals they have include Arare (Mizore’s mom), Yuki (the fattest seal they have), Agu (the oldest seal they have), Hiyori (Agu’s kennelmate), Kyoro (Agu and Hiyori’s neighbor), and Ponsuke (he likes to stick his tongue out). R/seals loves them all, as do I.
I love everything about what you’ve just told me.
I also had no idea there was an r/seals dedicated to these adorable water puppies but now I need to go there more often.

Parsha Noach Continues. The Flood Subsides.
Tumblr media
8 But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided. 2 The fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained, 3 and the waters receded from the earth continually. At the end of 150 days the waters had abated,
Winds are remove locusts and flies and gnats, sinful thoughts from the mind and make it clear blue again. The Fountains in the Deep are the darkness of life but not life itself. When the valves of these are turned down and off during Respite, Shabbat, rebirth is achieved.
Wine and challah "the tops of the mountain" are served to remind us of all the good things that civilization can do when it is not adrift on the surface of the Deep, hiding out of fear from itself:
4 and in the seventh month (Tishrei, "the beginning"), on the seventeenth day of the month (7 days Pe and Yud, the tenth= the Mouth of the Jew=), the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. 5 And the waters continued to abate until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.
The number 150 refers to Psalm 150 which praises God in the firmament which makes sense within the context of Parsha Noach.
1. Praise the Lord! Praise God in His holiness; praise Him in the firmament of His strength.
2. Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His abundant greatness.
3. Praise Him with the call of the shofar; praise Him with harp and lyre.
4. Praise Him with timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flute.
5. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with clanging cymbals.
Forty Days is the number it took for Moses to transcribe the Torah on Sinai, to memorize it and become a Kedosh. The Talmud says this is the amount of time it takes for a zygote to begin to resemble a human being, so we carry this number forward when discussing the journey from a knish, a kind of fried meat pie, into a Kedosh, a sacred being.
Whether you are in the womb or acting like it, the Torah says it takes forty days to reinstate Respite after an incident like the ones that caused the Flood and the Ark to come to rest upon Ararat.
Ararat is not a Hebrew word but if we were to cobble any definition at all together, it would be arar= the curse, retet= panic, trembling, rata= to wring out.
If we blur it all together with Noah (respite) the Ark, (testimony) came rest on the place “the curse was wrung out”=
“Through the Testimony, the Torah, the mind comes to rest, it is wrung free of curses.”
6 At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark that he had made 7 and sent forth a raven. It went to and fro until the waters were dried up from the earth.
Tumblr media
8 Then he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters had subsided from the face of the ground.
9 But the dove found no place to set her foot, and she returned to him to the ark, for the waters were still on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her and brought her into the ark with him.
10 He waited another seven days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark.
11 And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the earth.
12 Then he waited another seven days and sent forth the dove, and she did not return to him anymore.
Ravens in Judaism are the skeezers. They fuck their mates, make babies and fly the coop! The fact the Raven returned to the Ark after given a chance to skeez out is a sign the Forty Days inside the Vault were having their effect.
Still, foolhardy contact with the outside world was curtailed until the more loyal and fully trainable dove returned with signs it was ready to be at peace with the world.
Even though we love our lovey doveys, even they must be released and a full on male boy human is what must emerge from the study of the Torah, ready to face a world that is probably going to be contingent...willing to take its chances.
13 In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried from off the earth. And Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry. 14 In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth had dried out.
15 Then God said to Noah, 16 “Go out from the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons' wives with you. 17 Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh—birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth—that they may swarm on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.” 18 So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives with him. 19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, everything that moves on the earth, went out by families from the ark.
The departure from the Ark in families does not refer to the animal kingdom or the literal offspring of the unions on board. We will find out in a few stanzas what is born when Civilization Without Boundaries is vaulted all the way around by the Fire of Knowledge.
God's Covenant with Noah
20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse[i] the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
9 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. 2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. 4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. 5 And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man.
6 “Whoever sheds the blood of man,    by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.
7 And you,[j] be fruitful and multiply, increase greatly on the earth and multiply in it.”
The Altar is where we make a promise to God and the world not war upon either. The offering of the clean animals to God is to the service of this, the founding principal of the Torah and also of civilization.
The mention of clean animals coming off the Ark when it hits dry land is a huge clue God wants the entire Torah consumed  AND PRACTICED AS IF SECOND NATURE before the miracle of manhood can be realized.
The Torah says over and over Realization takes place over “generations”, a cumulative approach to understanding the importance of life on earth, a a process that must absolutely be the product of non-interference by God.
We are seeing active and flagrant intercession by God in this era, a sign as in ancient times, we are proving incapable of understanding the Torah without God’s direct supervision, and this is and always has been a last resort:
8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, 9 “Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth.
11 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
14 When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
The Bow is the strength to stand up for what is right.
"Strengthen(Bow) and release(arrow) from the heart within the strength of Hashem in order to fight for the right things in our lives."
God commits to using His Bow and Arrow instead of the Flood to discipline us going forward. In spite of this, God does not keep this promise. He has more than a few tantrums after this. Why would God make a vow not to vent His wrath on us and then break it?
The answer is we aren't following the Instructions, and as is seen in the Sojourn, this means God can resort to any kind of punishment necessary to prune the human race of any violent and oppressive persons, regimes, and ideals that are holding it back.
As the Torah says, "In the Beginning, out of the Mouth of the Jew comes this idea that mankind can attain to a lifetime free of violence and its causes."
This vision of mankind, concocted between God and the Jew during the earliest of times is the most important thing that has ever happened.

Tour Mom Chapter 3
A/N: I haven’t updated this series in literally forever. Pairing: Gerard x F!Reader Word count: 1,919 Warnings: Swearing
You loved Gerard, a lot. But some days it was a lot harder to show it than others.
Especially when he was away. Even if it was just for a day in the studio. And you definitely rooted that cause to your daughter. Your little bundle of joy was growing, and fast.
She had began crawling, and that presented an issue within itself. So that meant proofing everything in the house from baby gates which were installed, to plus for electrical outlets. But not having two sets of eyes on your daughter at all times became problematic.
She would be in the kitchen one minute, playing with some stuffed animal that was probably too large for her, and you would turn around to grab something. The next moment she was in another room, causing a moment of anxiety to absolutely spike within you.
“Gee?” You asked as you put leftovers in the fridge after dinner.
“Yeah?” He replied from where he sat at the kitchen island, reviewing some writing for his new comics.
“Can you take Arar upstairs? I’ll bathe her but I have to finish this up.” “Yup,” He got up from his seat, picking her up and placing her safety in her arms, “It’s almost your bed time, isn’t it?” He asked and began lightly tickling her. She became squealing and very lightly squirming in his arms as you both smiled. “Well let’s go upstairs so mama can give you a bath, okay love?” She let a small smile appear as he kissed her cheek, running up the stairs.
You finished up the dinner clean up, following in the footsteps of your lover and daughter, up to her room where Gee was singing to her. He came up with songs for her just randomly, out of the blue. Random melodies, and random topics. Today it was something to do with dogs.
“Ya know at that rate,” You walked in when he concluded the song, “We’re gonna have to get her one of her own.” You smiled up at him then back to your daughter.
“Wouldn’t be such a bad thing,” He sighed, looking to where she sat in her arms, “It would give her a friend.” You nodded. You then smiled immensely at Arden, who immediately reached to grab out for you. “Alright, I see where the loyalty is.” Gerard said, handing her off. You gladly accepted her.
“Hi babes,” You said as she now comfortably found her way to snuggle into your arm. “You’re so pretty! Yes, you are.” You cooed as she began lightly giggling.
“She gets that from her mother,” Gerard kissed the top of your head as he walked out the door, causing you to smile. “I have to finish a few things up, alright? I’ll be up to say goodnight to her, and to go to bed, alright?” You nodded as he began walking back down the stairs.
You gave your daughter a thorough bath, which she enjoyed due to the unprecedented amount of bubbles around her. You dried her off, placing her in a new diaper and one of her dozens of onesies. “Alright, lovely,” You sighed, placing her into her crib, “Time for bed babes, I’ll get daddy up here to say night night.”
You quickly made your way to Gerard’s office, knocking before walking in. “Gee?” You asked. He looked up from his work, his hair sporadically placed around his head.
“Hm?” He asked.
“Ar is up to bed, waiting for you.” “Oh, alright.” He got up, grabbing his stuff and going up the stairs, you right behind him. You headed into your room, waiting for him to say goodnight to your daughter and go to sleep with you.
You could hear him lightly talking to her, you weren’t sure what about, but you could hear some soft “yeahs” and “okays” from Gerard to your daughter. He loved talking to her despite the fact that she couldn’t talk back, nor could she understand.
He walked into your room a few minutes later, shutting the door as you continued your novel. “How is she?” You asked him, as he changed into sweats and a t-shirt.
“Great,” He lightly smiled, “I think. I mean, she can’t tell me-” “I know that Gee,” You rolled your eyes. He climbed in next to you, pulling some of the duvet and sheets over him.
“What if I dye my hair again?” He inquired, flipping through his own book.
“I mean,” You began, “You’ve done it before. Many times.” “Yeah but like, kind of a big change.” He said, “Red I’m thinking, to go with the Killjoys idea.” “Do it.” You said, continuing to invest in your book, “You do you, ya know?”
“And maybe I’ll take you on a date after,” He was flipped over on his stomach at this point, grabbing one of your hands to play with it.
“A date?” You asked.
“We haven’t been on one in a while, and I think you deserve it.”
“Maybe.” You said, placing your book on the nightstand. “Where would we go?” “Anywhere you want, babe.” He smiled. You sunk down into the bed, moving on your side so you could face him, and pulling the covers over you. “Then what if I just want to stay here, with you and Ar?” You asked. He placed his hand on your hip, slowly moving it up and down your side. “Then we can do that, if that’s what you want.” You lightly smiled, placing your hand on his.
“You’re the best, Gee.” He smiled back at you, giving you a long kiss.
Tumblr media
Later that week, Gerard had made an appointment to get his hair cut and dyed, the whole nine yards. He was gone for a few hours, since it took quite a while with all that was going on, and the current length of his hair.
You had put Arden down for her nap, and decided to write a little bit while you waited for Gee to get home. You were not really sure how you felt about him changing his look again. I mean, he tended to, but this was a whole new change, something that was not even in the realm of styles he had had before.
After a while, you heard the front door open and footsteps walking in. “Gee? Is that you?” You called from the living room. “Yeah.” You could hear him respond. You closed your laptop, getting up from where you sat on the couch and made your way down the hall to the front room, where you were met with a completely different looking man. You were taken aback, and the way you just stopped in your tracks, eyes going made, made Gerard lightly laugh. “Wow.” You said, getting closer.
“What do you think?” He asked, doing a little swirl.
“I like it,” You lightly smiled, looking at it, “More than I thought I would.”
“You do?” He asked again, a little more excited.
“Yeah,” You smiled even more, “You look about five years younger. You look really handsome.” “Thanks.” He lightly smiled, giving you a kiss.
“I wonder what Ar will think.” You pondered as the two of you walked to the kitchen.
“Is she down for her nap?” You nodded. “We’ll just have to wait.” After another half hour or so, while prepping for dinner, you ran upstairs to grab your daughter and awake her from her nap. You calmly woke her up, her small limbs stretching away from her body, as you grabbed her and placed her securely on your hip.
You took her to the first floor, then to the kitchen. She seemed to not notice any difference until Gerard turned around, smiling at her. “Look, it’s daddy.” You pointed to him with your other hand. Her eyes went wide, stopping any moment as she tried to contemplate what to do. “Say hi to dada.” You picked up her small arm and had her wave it.
“Hi, sugar.” He smiled, going to pick her up. She let him, but continued to stare at his hair. “What’s wrong?” He asked her. At that moment, her face went sour as tears began erupting from her.
“Oh, babe.” You told her, taking her back and letting her cry into your chest, trying to hide her. “Do you not like daddy’s new hair?” You began soothing her by lightly bouncing up and down.
Gerard just stood there lightly smiling, obviously attempting not to laugh. You gave him a warning look and he immediately stopped. “Why don’t you go play?” You asked her, taking her to her small play pen in the living room.
You went back to the kitchen to see Gerard looking amused and disappointed. “So I don’t think she likes it very much.” He stated. You nodded, agreeing with the obvious. “She’ll get used to it. Give her a day.”
“I love it, still.” You smiled, playing with it in your fingers, “It’s growing on me every minute.” He smiled back, watching you. “You look...” Pondering for a minute, you continued playing with it, “Sexy.” “Sexy?” One of his eyebrows raised. “Is that so?” He grabbed your hips, pulling you forward and giving a kiss to your neck, placing multiple more around.
“Gee-” You slightly moaned.
“Yes, my love?” He looked up, halting his assault and smirking.
“I- I think we should take this upstairs.” He nodded, continuing to kiss you but pushing you slightly, urging you to walk backwards, which you followed.
You made your way to the stairs, Gerard nudging you against the wall to apply more leverage for him. Just as you two were about to make the ascent up, you heard a ring of cried from the living room. Both of you stopped immediately, catching your breaths. “Looks like we won’t be doing that.” You said, moving briefly away from him.
“Fuck.” Gee sighed. “I can’t even get a moment with you.” “I know Gee,” You lightly smirked, “But she’s our daughter.” “I know.” He followed behind you into the living room where you found the baby in distress, within her little play pen.
“Babe,” You leaned down, picking her up, “Why’re you such in a mood today, sweetie?” You rocked her back and forth trying to calm her down.
“Here,” He reached his hands out, “Let me try.” You handed her over to Gee, who immediately started rocking her as well, and began humming a random melody.
She almost instantly began calming down, and stopped crying, just clinging onto his body. “Yeah, you’re good now baby.” He cooed, “You alright now?” She looked up at him again with big eyes, focusing on his hair. They just stared at each other for a few moments, before she collapsed her head back onto his shoulder, finding a comfortable spot to lay.
“I wonder why she’s so stressed,” You wondered out loud, “She’s usually not that cranky.”
“Has she been sleeping alright?” “Yeah, the baby monitor doesn’t show anything off.” You sighed.
“She’s probably just growing, hon.” Gerard whispered, still rocking her on his hip. “She’s more tired, more cranky.” “Maybe she’s hitting the terrible twos.” “Oh God,” Gerard responded rolling his eyes, “Don’t remind me that those days are coming.” You smirked.
“Why don’t you try to put her down, she probably does need another nap if she’s so cranky.” He nodded in agreement.
“And if that doesn’t work?” He rose an eyebrow.
“Then it’s official.” You sighed, “The terrible twos are here.”

Genesis 24:52-26:16, Matthew 8:18-34, Psalms 10:1-15, Proverbs 3:7-8
Today is the 11th day of January welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I'm Brian it is great to be here with you today as we continue our journey and sail out of the harbor and into the deep. And right now we’re kind of sailing through the territory of the book of Genesis and the book of Matthew. So, we’re just getting going but we are definitely on our way. So, let's get to it. We’re reading from the New Living translation this week and by way of reminder we’re in the book of Genesis, obviously but we are hearing of the story of Abraham's family. And this family although we…we get to know a lot of people and maybe at times it seems tedious or whatever, this shapes the Bible. This family is an important piece of the story, irreplaceable piece of the story for that matter. So, we have Abraham and his wife Sarah, and they were old, too old to have children anyway, as we recall. And a miracle baby was born. His name was Isaac. Now Isaac has grown up. Abraham is very elderly and it's time for Isaac to have a wife and that's where we are. A servant has been sent back to Abraham's people to find a wife for Isaac. And the servant has found someone that meets the criteria completely and her name is Rebekah and the family has agreed to let Rebecca go back and become Isaac's wife and that's kind of where we find ourselves. Genesis chapter 24 verse 52 through 26 verse 16 today.
Commentary:
Okay. As I have said already many times this year, but as we say many times during our journey the book of Proverbs really can say in awful lot in a sentence or two. It just…all of the trimmings, all of the trappings, all of the nuances are largely not there. The direct, unfiltered truth of wisdom's voice is usually what cuts through. And, so, today, “don't be impressed with your own wisdom”, right? Like, don't think you know more than you think you know. Don't think you've experienced more than you think you have. That's not really wisdom. Wisdom actually knows when it doesn't know. So, wisdom says instead of that, “fear the Lord and turn away from evil.” Now, we know that. Like we all know that. So, we can be like, “that's just common knowledge. That’s common wisdom.” But what wisdom is saying here is that that leads somewhere. “Fear the Lord and turn away from evil”, that is a path, that's a trajectory and where that road leads is “healing for your body and strength for your bones”. So, we probably hadn’t put that all together before. But when we walk the path that reveres and holds in awe and esteem the fear of the Lord and we turn away from what we know is evil then we’re bringing healing to ourselves, healing to our bones, strength for our bones, healing for our bodies. And you could go, “I don't know how those things all work, how does that even…how do they have anything to do with each other?” What harm is there in testing this? What harm is there in fearing the Lord and turning away from evil and seeing if the byproduct is healing for our body and strength for our bones?
And then let’s go back to Genesis. This is the point now where we have met a number of people obviously in the book of Genesis, but we have begun to focus our attention on the family and the family line, the descendants of Abraham. And I’ve said many times, like this guy Abraham and his wife Sarah and their son of promise Isaac, like they…they are a part of the rest of the story. And, so, it's very important that we not forget that and as these descendants, as the coming generations are introduced to us, at this point it's really vital that we remember and pay attention to who they are. So, Abraham had children. We’ve read about his children, but the firstborn, like the one with the rights, the one that was inheriting everything, the one through whom the promise would continue, his name was Isaac. He's the one that was on Mount Moriah with Abraham, right, where God said, “bring your son and give him…give him as a sacrifice. Like, we’ve gone through that story. That's Isaac. As Abraham was getting old Isaac needed a spouse and a servant was sent back to the people, the family of Abraham. And Rebekah became Isaac's wife. So, this is second-generation now. The children of Abraham, the child of Abraham. Today Rebekah had twins and there was an early prophecy, prophetic word basically, they'll be at odds with one another throughout their lifetimes. Their names were Jacob and Esau, right? And Esau saw…sold his birthright. So, now we are at the grand children of Abraham. There’s also some things that we are beginning to start to observe about some of these people. With Abraham, we saw him twice claim that his wife Sarah was his sister to protect himself from harm. And certainly, this is part of the culture, this is part of what was necessary to do to survive the kinds of things that these men feared. However, we see trickery here. We saw that Abraham went to King Abimelech at Arar and tricked him that his wife Sarah was his sister and that brought about a big scandal. So, today Isaac and Rebekah, the next generation, go to the same town with the same King making the same claim, “she's my sister.” And, so, there's like a little bit of trickery going on here. And then when Rebekah has the twins, and they get old enough we see that Jacob practices some trickery of his own with his brother Esau. That trickery isn't going to turn out to be a good thing. And in the end that trickery will be revisited upon Jacob. And I want to kinda give a spoiler, not because…because this isn’t like a novel that we’re reading, this is the Scriptures, and so understanding who these people are and how they play into the grand scheme of things does become important because so many of these stories, we will revisit them as they are revisited in the future in the Bible. So, we may jump a thousand years forward in the Bible referring back to the times that we are reading right now. So, I’m trying to keep us on track. So, Jacob and his trickery and the trickery that eventually is visited upon him actually creates a people that we will recognize. Here's why. Someday Jacobs can grow up…and we’re gonna watch this all happen in the Scriptures…this will all play out in detail, but it's nice to know where this is going. Jacob will eventually be married and will eventually have children, 12 of them to be specific. Jacob's name will eventually be changed. His name will become Israel and his kids are the children of Israel and they indeed permeate every page of the rest of the Bible. That's where we are and that's where this is going. And, so, it's important for us to hold on to the story, hold onto the context because it brings out so much meaning, it clicks so much of these disjointed feeling stories together. We begin understand we’re talking about the same family here. We’re going through many, many, many generations of this family. But it is this family, the family of Abraham that touches the rest of the Bible and touches the rest of the world up until today.
Prayer:
Father we thank You for Your word and we thank You for context. Context in life brings clarity, understanding, meaning, and purpose. And Your word has plenty of context it's just that we’ve never really taken the time to really dive into it and understand it. It's a big book full of all kinds of confusing things but that's not the case this year. As we sail across this year, we look to Your Holy Spirit to give us context as well as teaching and correction and rebuke and truth and comfort and healing. You have always loved us, and we will see that as this story continues to play out. So, come Holy Spirit we pray and plant the words that we read today deep inside of our hearts that they might one day yield a crop, that they might bring fruit into our lives we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:
Hi this is Leanne calling from northern Michigan. Hey, I am calling in response to the woman who called from London who was Muslim and converted to Christianity and is doing chronological and the daily readings for…with Brian and I am doing the same thing. And sister, I just want to say welcome to the family. O…you just got me in the heart and you’re asking for prayer for support. And, so, Father God I lift this woman up to You. I don’t remember her name but Father You know her, and I thank You that You have freed her that You are growing her. I just pray for Your hand of protection upon her Father, that You would help her to eagerly seek You, that Your word would come alive and speak truth into her life. Just bless her, bless her may she feel supported and feel Your love. And we just ask this in Jesus name. Amen.
Father God thank you so much for this day that you have given us. Thank you for the place you have placed us. Thank you for our homes and our villages, cities, towns, wherever it is Lord that…that we are, our workplaces. Father God we…we ask you to bless and to protect our homes and our workplaces and our cities and towns and villages. We ask you to protect our countries Lord and we pray for wisdom for our leaders be they our workplace leaders our city leaders our area leaders or…or country leaders those…those who have to make decisions. I pray Lord that you’d be giving them wisdom on how best to combat whatever situation they’re facing. I pray especially in this time of coronavirus that you’d give them the wisdom on when to put measures in place and when to ease those measures. And we pray that you’d be giving them the strength to make those hard decisions and that you’d be guiding them Lord. Father thank you so much for our health services. Thank you for all those healthcare professionals. Daily Audio Bible family this is David from Tyrone and this is my first time calling in but it’s actually my third year of going through the Bible with you. This community means a lot to me and I wanted to know that I pray for you every day and especially those that are hurting and have nowhere else to go. And I really want to thank Brian and his family for this ministry. It’s…it’s meant a lot to me over the years. A week ago, I was so looking forward to the new year and putting 2020 behind us but on January 1 my mother of 78 years suddenly died of a massive heart attack. I bring this to the camp for two reasons, one I would really appreciate your prayers for my family and second, I just wanted to share something. My mom and I always ended our calls and goodbyes with I love you. So, the last thing I said to her the morning she died was I love you and the last thing she said to me was I love you. And what I’ve learned from this is just never wait until tomorrow to reconcile with people that you’re separated from or…or have disagreements from because you just truly never know if there’s going to be a tomorrow. And I just don’t want any of my DAB family to die or lose a loved one with regrets or bitterness. I know my mom’s in heaven just because of her walk and faith with the Lord and I also know that I will see her one day in heaven and my hope is that someday I will see all of you in heaven as well. And goodbye.
Hello friends and fellow children of the kingdom of God this is Sean here from Australia just checking in. This is my first prayer on the DAB. I want to give a shout out to Natalie for introducing me to this wonderful community and helping…helping put me toward the light of Jesus Christ and our Lord. Thank you. It’s been a long journey for me. I…I’ve managed to escape the clutches of the enemy and I give thanks to God every day for that. And the Lord has saved me…and very recently in fact. And I want to give thanks to all of you who for your ongoing support and all of you who struggle with drugs, alcohol, pornography, as I did. I want you to know that you’re not alone and God has a plan for you and just be patient and put your trust and your faith in Him because He will deliver you like He did for me. Thank you everyone. See ya.
Hello Daily Audio Bible family my name is Aretha and I’m in Taylor South Carolina and on September the 8th my mom died from Covid and I have had such a rough time just bouncing back. I feel stuck, I get angry. I’m just…I just feel hopeless at times. And I know God is with me but sometimes it seems like I can feel His presence but sometimes I can’t. Family, I need your prayers because I have my family that I need to take care of, and I can’t take care of them in this state. I can’t take care of myself in the state. And it’s like my mind is…just…I can’t get together. And I know that God has a purpose for me if I’m still here but I was very, very close to my mom and it just seems so hard, sometimes even unbearable to even go on. And I just think to myself, Lord how long will I be here suffering like this for my mom? So, I need prayers family. I need prayers. Pray for my nephew that my mom had since he was two weeks old. He’s living with me and he needs your prayers as well. His name is Denzil. Please pray for us family because we need you. And I just thank you for this…this opportunity to be able to share this with you guys and just please keep me in your prayers. Thank you.
Good morning Daily Audio Bible family my name is Victoria Overcomer and I live in __ Ohio. I found Daily Audio Bible online the beginning of last year and have been listening every day and it…it’s just awesome the way Brian reads and brings the word of God to life. But I have never called. But the reason why am calling today is because Zinab __ called from London and Zinab when I heard your name, I knew that you and I we come from the same country __ West Africa. Zinab I just want to let you know that you are not alone in…in this journey. I was also born and raised as a Muslim. My father built a mosque in our compound. I used to pray five daily prayers, but the Lord saved me, and I will never go back. I love the Lord Jesus and His grace and mercy upon my life. And all of my siblings, my brothers and sisters they’ve also come to know Jesus Christ. And I just…just keep want to encourage you. Keep the faith. I mean, it’s amazing what Jesus can do in your life when you walk with Him, when you just trust Him. It’s amazing at how He can transform your life and I’m just grateful in time for how He…

Welcome to May which is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month!
As you can imagine, Asian Pacific American as a topic covers vast oceans of identity and information. In fact, an Asian Pacific American is an American (whether born, naturalized, or other) who was born on or has heritage from anywhere on the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia and Easter Island). These areas cover a wide array of languages, cultures, religions, and ethnicities that have brought countless skills, hopes and dreams to the United States.
UCF Libraries faculty and staff have suggested these books and movies within the library’s collection by or about Asian Pacific Americans. Click the link below to see the full list, descriptions, and catalog links. With the Libraries still on remote access, we do not have our usual extended physical display, but have created a reading list full of additional ebooks and streaming videos for you to enjoy: Asian Pacific American Heritage ereading.
Aloha Rodeo: three Hawaiian cowboys, the world's greatest rodeo, and a hidden history of the American West by David Wolman and Julian Smith In August 1908, three unknown riders arrived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, their hats adorned with wildflowers, to compete in the world’s greatest rodeo. Steer-roping virtuoso Ikua Purdy and his cousins Jack Low and Archie Ka’au’a had travelled 4,200 miles from Hawaii to test themselves against the toughest riders in the West. Dismissed by whites, who considered themselves the only true cowboys, the native Hawaiians would astonish the country, returning home champions—and American legends.  America for Americans: a history of xenophobia in the United States by Erika Lee The United States is known as a nation of immigrants. But it is also a nation of xenophobia. Acclaimed historian Erika Lee shows that an irrational fear, hatred, and hostility toward immigrants has been a defining feature of our nation from the colonial era to the Trump era. Americans have been wary of almost every group of foreigners that has come to the United States. Xenophobia has not been an exception to America's immigration tradition, an episodic aberration on an inevitable march toward inclusion. It is, in fact, Lee argues, an American tradition in its own right, deeply embedded in our society, economy, and politics, Forcing us to confront this history, Lee explains how xenophobia works, why it has endured, and how it threatens us all. It is a necessary corrective and spur to action for any concerned citizen. Suggested by Peter Spyers-Duran, Cataloging
Anatomy of a Springroll written and directed by Paul Kwan and Arnold Iger This dazzling film is a gigantic stirfry of savory images - Paul and his mother cooking in his San Francisco kitchen, street vendors simmering their soups, bustling markets piled with peppers, cilantro, and chilis. In America, cooking is often a solitary experience, but in Vietnam it is a family affair, with everyone cutting, chopping, and stirring while chattering. Suggested by Missy Murphey, Research & Information Services
Asian American X: an intersection of twenty-first-century Asian American voices edited by Arar Han and John Hsu This refreshing and timely collection of coming-of-age essays, edited and written by young Asian Americans, powerfully captures the joys and struggles of their evolving identities as one of the fastest-growing groups in the nation and poignantly depicts the many oft-conflicting ties they feel to both American and Asian cultures. The essays also highlight the vast cultural diversity within the category of Asian American, yet ultimately reveal how these young people are truly American in their ideals and dreams. Suggested by Sandy Avila, Research & Information Services
Asian American Youth: culture, identity and ethnicity edited by Jennifer Lee and Min Zhou Lee and Zhou cover topics such as Asian immigration, acculturation, assimilation, intermarriage, socialization, sexuality, and ethnic identification. The distinguished contributors show how Asian American youth have created an identity and space for themselves historically and in contemporary multicultural America. Suggested by Missy Murphey, Research & Information Services
Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in Congress, 1900-2017 edited by Albin J. Kowalewski The most comprehensive history available on the Asian and Pacific Islander Americans who have served in Congress. Suggested by Megan Haught, Student Learning & Engagement/Research & Information Services
At America's Gates: Chinese immigration during the exclusion era, 1882-1943 by Erika Lee Drawing on a rich trove of historical sources--including recently released immigration records, oral histories, interviews, and letters--Lee brings alive the forgotten journeys, secrets, hardships, and triumphs of Chinese immigrants. Her timely book exposes the legacy of Chinese exclusion in current American immigration control and race relations. Suggested by Peter Spyers-Duran, Cataloging
City Girls: the Nisei social world in Los Angeles, 1920-1950 by Valerie J. Matsumoto Matsumoto recovers and explores the forgotten world of urban Nisei girls' ethnocultural networks in California. By the 1920s Nisei girls' clubs had taken root in Los Angeles and provided a key venue in which young urban women could claim modern femininity, an American identity, and public space. These groups served as a bulwark against racial discrimination, offering a bridge between the immigrant community's expectations of young women and the lure of popular culture. Suggested by Missy Murphey, Research & Information Services
Keywords for Asian American Studies edited by Cathy J. Schlund-Vials, Linda Trinh Võ, and K. Scott Wong Born out of the Civil Rights and Third World Liberation movements of the 1960s and 1970s, Asian American Studies has grown significantly over the past four decades, both as a distinct field of inquiry and as a potent site of critique. Characterized by transnational, trans-Pacific, and trans-hemispheric considerations of race, ethnicity, migration, immigration, gender, sexuality, and class, this multidisciplinary field engages with a set of concepts profoundly shaped by past and present histories of racialization and social formation. Spanning multiple histories, numerous migrations, and diverse populations, this work reconsiders and recalibrates the ever-shifting borders of Asian American studies as a distinctly interdisciplinary field Suggested by Sandy Avila, Research & Information Services
Not Quite Not White: losing and finding race in America by Sharmila Sen At the age of 12, Sharmila Sen emigrated from India to the U.S. and everywhere she turned, she was asked to self-report her race: on INS forms, at the doctor's office, in middle school. Never identifying with a race in the India of her childhood, she rejects her new "not quite" designation: not quite white, not quite black, not quite Asian, and spends much of her life attempting to blend into American whiteness. But after her teen years trying to assimilate, she is forced to reckon with the hard questions: What does it mean to be white, why does whiteness retain the magic cloak of invisibility while other colors are made hypervisible, and how much does whiteness figure into Americanness? Suggested by Ven Basco, Research & Information Services
Shoal of Time: the history of the Hawaiian islands by Gavan Daws Gavan Daws' remarkable achievement is to free Hawaiian history from the dust of antiquity. Based on years of work in the documentary sources, Shoal of Time emerges as the most readable of all Hawaiian histories. Suggested by Tim Ryan, Administration
The End of Peril, the End of Enmity, the End of Strife, a Haven by Thirii Myo Kyaw Myint An unnamed narrator returns to her ancestral home in an environmentally depleted harbor city with a baby in her care. She has escaped from what she calls "the breach"--the collapse of the climate-controlled domed city where she grew up. The narrator's mother disappears, and the baby falls ill. The narrator then journeys to city's river to perform the funeral rites for her mother and cure the baby. At the river, the three narrative threads come together. Suggested by Ven Basco, Research & Information Services
The American dream?: a journey on Route 66, discovering dinosaur statues, muffler men, and the perfect breakfast burrito by Shing Yin Khor An illustrated comic travelogue about an American immigrant driving alone through all that's left of "The Mother Road," Route 66. Suggested by Jacqui Johnson, Cataloging
The Atlas of Reds and Blues: a novel by Devi S. Laskar When a woman known only as Mother moves her family from Atlanta to its wealthy suburbs, she discovers that neither the times nor the people have changed since her childhood in a small Southern town. She is met with the same questions: Where are you from? No, where are you really from? The American-born daughter of Bengali immigrants, she finds that her answer is never enough. One morning, during a violent and unfounded police raid on her home, Mother finally refuses to be complacent. As she lies bleeding from a gunshot wound, her thoughts race through her life, and what it means to be a woman of color in today's America. Suggested by Peter Spyers-Duran, Cataloging
They Called Us Enemy written by George Takei, Justin Eisinger, Steven Scott ; art by Harmony Becker A stunning graphic memoir recounting actor/author/activist George Takei's childhood imprisoned within American concentration camps during World War II. Experience the forces that shaped an American icon -- and America itself -- in this gripping tale of courage, country, loyalty, and love. Suggested by Ven Basco, Research & Information Services
You Don't Know Jack: the Jack Soo story directed by Jeff Adachi This film tells the fascinating story of a pioneering American entertainer Jack Soo, an Oakland native who became the first Asian American to be cast in the lead role in a regular television series Valentine's Day (1963), and later starred in the popular comedy show Barney Miller (1975-1978). Featuring rare footage and interviews with Soo's co-stars and friends, the film traces Jack's early beginnings as a nightclub singer and comedian, to his breakthrough role as Sammy Fong in Rogers and Hammerstein's Broadway play and film version of The Flower Drum Song. The film also explores why Soo, a former internee who was actually born Goro Suzuki, was forced to change his name in the post WWII era, in order to perform in clubs in the mid-west. Because of his experiences, throughout his career in films and television, Soo refused to play roles that were demeaning to Asian Americans and often spoke out against negative ethnic portrayals.
