“Oh, dearie me. Do my eyes deceive me or is that Belle I see?”

“Why are you acting so surprised, Clavis?” 

“Well, I simply can’t recall the last time you joined us for breakfast. You’re always in the library with your book club.”

“It’s not a book club. We’re just friends.”

Clavis rose from his chair and approached you, a sly smile adorning his face; with his thumb, he tilted your chin until your eyes met.

"Friends, you say. Have you not seen the way my brother looks at you? Clearly, you haven't." He paused and chuckled, his tone turning serious. "He looks at you in a way he doesn't look at anyone else. Not even me, his most handsome brother. Chev is a man who can glance at something once and have it memorized, never needing to look at it again. Yet, I so often find him, a man who does nothing not worth his time, staring at you. If you don’t believe me, watch him the next time you're together and let me know if you still think you're just his friend."

He removed his hand from your chin, leaving you wide-eyed in disbelief, your heart racing at the thought that Chevalier might have feelings for you.

Breakfast passed in a blur, and before you knew it, you were standing before a familiar set of doors. With your heart pounding in your chest, you pushed open the door and stepped over the threshold.

There’s nothing to be nervous about, you tried to convince yourself as you entered the room. As usual, Chevalier was seated  in his chair, his ankle crossed over his knee, his face tilted down as he read the book in his hands. 

“Hello,” he greeted you as his gaze lifted to meet yours, his lips curling into a soft smile. You noticed how his gaze lingered as butterflies began to flutter in your stomach.

“I received some new books today.” He tipped his chin towards a nearby shelf, its contents calling to you.

You were walking on clouds as you made your way to the bookshelf. Filled with childlike joy, you beamed as you ran a finger along the leather spines of the books, trying to decide which one to pick first. 

But then a voice inside you told you to turn around. 

Chevalier sat with his chin in his hand, a barely there smile soft on his lips, his pale blue eyes fixed on you. 

Don’t smile at me like that, you told yourself. I’ll have trouble not believing what Clavis said earlier otherwise.

“I don’t know which one to pick.”

He rose from his chair with an elegant grace that comes from being born royal and approached you by the bookshelf. He quickly scanned the shelf and effortlessly selected a book. 

You trembled as he handed you the book, his warm gaze returning to you, his soft smile still visible.

Whether Chevalier knew it or not, Clavis was right.

The Contestants Are Here!

Thank you for your patience, I'm now ready to announce our contestants for the Obscure Character Showdown! There are 300 characters, split up into 6 groups of 50.

Here's how the schedule will work: Day 1 is Group A Round 1 Part 1, Day 2 is Group A Round 1 Part 2, Day 3 is Group B Round 1 Part 1, Day 4 is Group B Round 1 Part 2, Day 5 is Group C Round 1 Part 1, and so on and so forth until we reach Group F Round 1 Part 2, and then the next day we'll fold back over for Group A Round 2. I'm splitting up the rounds because tumblr can interpret posting many polls at once as spamming, and each group contains 25 polls, so. 13 one day, 12 the next.

I expect to start polls by Wednesday, May 31, but I may be a little later than that. I'll keep you updated.

The polls will be tagged with 'obscurecharactershowdown,' 'obscure poll,' and their group letter and round number.

So, we've had Desmond in the P5 universe. What if he landed earlier during the events of P3/FES/Reload? I think he would have a deep connection/bond to the protagonist considering both died to save the world. How would things play out in your headcanon?

The Persona 5 with Desmond idea for those curious.

I haven’t played P3R yet but I did play the OG P3, FES and Portable when it came out so we’ll be focusing on the og one for this.

Or maybe we’ll focus on the idea that P3R is a stealth ‘sequel’ and set it up first with Desmond waking up and talking a young boy with dark blue hair, asking him to sign in.

Desmond thought that he was in the afterlife and, sure, it looked like an average looking homey hotel but fine, he’d seen weirder shit in his life thanks to the Isus and the Animus so he just signed in.

He wakes up in a small apartment and a Japanese guy looking over him, telling him that he found Desmond where garbage bags were placed for the garbage truck to get them (Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Monday and Wednesday for burnable, Friday for not. He found Desmond on a Tuesday)

The man introduces himself as Edogawa and lets Desmond stay as he feels weak for some reason. By the time Desmond is strong enough to check his surrounding…

He finds out he’s in Japan, a city called Tatsumi Port Island.

And…

It’s the year 2009.

His phone isn’t working at all. No matter how much he tried to turn it on. When he borrowed Edogawa’s computer, there is no mention of Abstergo in the internet at all.

And the email he remembered his team had and the emergency email that Erudito gave him bounced back.

It took a few days before Desmond finally agreed that he wasn’t kicked into the past.

This was another world.

A world where the Assassins and the Templars didn’t exist.

Things turned weirder because the first time Desmond stays late at night, the city transforms and he is attacked by strange creatures…

He manages to take care of them thanks to his hidden blade and the knife he still had on his bag but their battle only ‘invited’ more creatures that tried to attack Desmond.

So he runs. He turns the corner…

And finds himself in a bar mostly painted in blue velvet.

And on the counter stands a woman who calls herself “Elizabeth”.

She welcomes him as a ‘unexpected guest’ and tells her about the Dark Hour and the Shadows.

She opens her book and shows him the page of the Fool Arcana, explaining to him that he signed the contract and is now able to serve as an ‘authorized representative’. Elizabeth will serve as the host of his Velvet Room.

She requests him to defeat the Shadows and challenge the Avatar of the Fall.

… and…

To change the ending.

Unorganized Notes:

I kinda like the idea of this being FeMC instead of the og MC of P3 but you decide XD

We are going to use a lot of FeMC’s alternate scenes (mainly because I want Shinjiro to live)

He becomes the bartender in Club Escapade and meets the MC during his first visit there. He keeps an eye on the MC because the MC likes to ‘pay’ the fortune teller there to check his fortune or something.

Desmond actually appears to the SEES members during the High Priestess boss fight. He can’t believe that kids are fighting the Shadows. He recognized the MC and also Junpei who has also visited the club before.

Desmond is more or less ‘recruited’ by the Kirijo group and Desmond agreed because they’re kids, he can’t just let them do this on their own. Desmond transfers to the dorm as a… ‘caretaker’

… which he actually does. He cooks them food (thank you, Ratonhnhaké:ton’s bleed) and cleans. He also walks Koromaru whenever he does grocery. By that point, he quits his job in the club.

SEES members think of him more like an older brother. He gets roped with Fuuka’s cooking and jogs with Akihiko at times. He helps out Junpei with his English assignments. He makes Ken coffee and is even roped by Ken to teach him how to make coffee the way he does. He also more than once slips inside the school because Yukari asked him to help her with her archery for some reason. His favorite is Mitsuru though because she tells him he can borrow her motorcycle any time he wants.

Aegis is wary of him which is fair and she’s always confused to why she always feels the need to have him in her sight. It becomes a running joke how Aegis has imprinted on both Desmond and the MC.

We never talked about Desmond’s Persona, right?

That’s because he doesn’t have one.

The first Persona he summons is a Pixie and the book that Elizabeth has is already filled completely. He can summon the Personas there as long as he pays the price and he can fuse them.

But he cannot overwrite the Personas in the book.

Desmond is the Avatar of the Fool.

… specifically… he is the Avatar of the original messiah that became a door to halt the end from happening.

The young boy who asked him to sign?

That wasn’t Pharos.

It was the male main character’s child form. To be more exact, how he looked when he lost his parents. He connected with Desmond so Desmond could become his avatar and changed the ending of this ‘repeat’ (aka Reload) that Elizabeth managed to create. The Arcana HCs: How the M6 found some cool art

~ no comments on the second half of that ask, but here you go anon friend XD (this accidentally turned into a whole fic, so clear directions will be at the end) ~

It started with Portia

There's this book series that she's been a fan of for a long time, and rumor had it that if you went to a certain part of the town square at a certain time of day, the store that sold the books would be displaying sketches that the author had made

Unfortunately, Portia wasn't able to go. She was out of town doing important ambassador business and missed the window to view it

So she spent the next five hours ranting about it to her brother as soon as she was finished unpacking and he dropped by for tea

"Correct me if I'm wrong," said Julian, "but it's just art. Couldn't they show it again?"

"Ugh, I wish. But they said it was an exclusive event, and now some of the people that went keep referencing it and acting like they know more than everyone else, and you know I hate missing out!"

"Understood," said Julian, and he drained his teacup and backed out of the cottage before Portia could keep ranting

Several weeks later, Julian, Asra, Nadia, Muriel, Portia, and Lucio were all gathered at the magic shop. MC was out of town for a while, so they all crowded into their apartment to miss them better

Asra was lounging on the windowsill knitting, Muriel was skulking in the corner next to them, Nadia was reading her messages, Julian was listening to Portia's continued ranting, and they were all ignoring Lucio

"Let me get this straight," Julian began, tired of Portia's yelling

" - you're not." Asra interrupted, lazily stretching as they counted stitches

Julian rubbed at his face and continued. "If you want the art so bad, why don't you just take it?"

"Absolutely not." Nadia somehow managed to issue commands without even looking up from her phone.

"Why does Noddy have a phone?" Lucio asked. Nobody answered him

"Ugh, but I want to see it so bad!" Portia grumbled, letting her head fall into her arms with a thump.

"What was the name of the book series again?" Asra asked, ignoring the warning glare Julian shot their way as Portia geared up for another impassioned speech.

"Lonely Hot People Near You," she said, "but we just call it LHPNY."

"Oh." Nadia said, but it was the kind of "oh" that sounded more intrigued than understanding. "It looks like you might be able to see them after all."

Portia gasped. "Really?"

"Yes, but you'll need a friend."

"I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute!" Julian's arm went up theatrically as he geared up to make his own impassioned speech. "It is every older brother's duty to make his younger sister happy -"

"Okay, but how?" Portia interrupted. "I thought you said not to do anything ... iffy."

"One of the bookstore employees made a post explaining how." Nadia held up her phone and the siblings leaned in. Over by the window, Asra was pulling up the link she'd sent them to show Muriel as well.

"You'll have to use their app."

"What's an app??" Lucio asked, but nobody answered him

"I don't want to have an account with them, though," Julian said. "I prefer academic journals."

"Neither of you has to make an account. Just give them your email. You can delete the app and unsubscribe later if you want to."

"Ohhh." The Devorak siblings nodded and pulled out their phones. Even Muriel looked intrigued at this point.

"Why does everyone have emails?!?" Lucio shrieked, as real-life technology became more involved in a plot set in a fantasy world. Nobody answered him.

"Now what?" Portia asked excitedly.

"Now one of you has to look up 'book club'," said Nadia, "and the other one of you has to sit on the page labeled 'streams' and wait."

"I'll look it up!" Portia crowed.

"I'll wait." Julian sighed.

Nadia nodded and continued. "Portia, have you found the selection you're looking for? Go ahead and pull it up. Hit 'stream' instead of 'play'."

"What happens if I hit 'play'?"

"You'll find a paywall that you'd have to pay about 27 USD to get enough points to unlock."

"For all of it?"

"For the first section. And it would only stay unlocked for one playthrough - if you wanted to see it again, you'd have to pay again." Nadia gave the window an inscrutable look

"What's USD???" Lucio begged, but nobody answered him.

"Got it." Portia stuck her tongue out in concentration, Asra coming to lean over her shoulder and get a peek at her screen.

"Pasha!" Julian looked scandalized. "Hotcatlady69? Really??"

"Join her stream," Nadia said unfazed. "Now that you have an audience, Portia, you should be able to unlock it all without paying anything."

Portia shrieked with delight as she tapped through the artwork on her screen. "These are so cool! Should I save them for later?"

"That's none of my business." Nadia sat back in her chair and coolly returned to her messages. She looked up from her phone again a few minutes later when Portia let out a disappointed sigh

"It's already done, and there were only twelve slides. I heard there were more."

Asra plucked her phone out of her hand and scrutinized the display, smirk tugging at their lips. "It's got multiple parts. Do it again."

Portia gasped and snatched it back. "Yes! Ilya, don't sign off."

"I wouldn't dream of it." Julian sighed and sat back, happy to see his sister appeased for the first time in weeks. "Have at it."

"Oh, that one looks like Muriel," Asra commented from where they were leaning over Portia's shoulder, "send it to me."

"I'll put it in the group chat when I'm done."

Nadia sighed and sent them a mildly disapproving glance. "I didn't hear that."

"Whatever happened to 'be gay, do crime' Nadi?" Asra chuckled as Portia finished her second round of artwork

Nadia raised an eyebrow with a small smile and didn't answer.

"There's only two parts!" Portia wailed, ending her stream and leaning back with a huff.

"Are you done?" Julian asked, long fingers wrapping around his phone and tapping at his cracked screen. "I'm deleting the app, then, I need more room for my theatre recordings."

"There'll be more, see?" Asra pointed at the part on Portia's screen that said "ongoing".

"I guess I can wait," Portia sighed, tapping over to her messages and typing away.

Lucio reached into his pocket, where something was beginning to chime, and shrieked when he pulled out a phone of his own. "WHY DO I HAVE ONE OF THESE TOO?!?" he cried, on the verge of a mental breakdown. Nobody answered him

"Why is he in the group chat?" Muriel grumbled

"I don't know," Julian sighed, "he just is. Oh-ho, this one looks like me."

A few days later, Nadia would overhear Valerius grumbling over Lucio's risk-taking habits when he runs across the town square, scattering the art as he goes after Asra dared him to.

"That Fool," she chuckled.

How to Read Playing Cards: Suits, Jokers & Numerology

For the standard French-suited playing cards there are typically 54 total cards in one deck. These cards are split between four suits (spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts) and then the two jokers (the red joker and the black joker). In this post I will be going over the general meanings of the four suits, discussing why I prefer to use the joker cards and how numerology can play a part in your interpretations.

The Suits

There are four suits in playing cards: spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts. Spades and clubs are considered black suits. Diamonds and hearts are considered red suits. This may be different depending on the deck you get, but this is how standard decks work. Each suit is represented by a symbol and has some general topics associated with them.

♢ Diamonds: Finances, Material Value, Success, Rewards, Growth

♧ Clubs: Accomplishments, Luck, Social Status, Communication, Transactions

♡ Hearts: Emotions, Love, Relationships, Partnerships, Family

One method of reading playing cards that can help you with your interpretations is by paying attention to the suits and what order they're pulled. Paying attention to this can help you get a better idea on what the reading is talking about. So, let's say you're doing a three card reading. Here are a few ways to interpret the general topic of the reading based on the suits.

[ ♤ ♤ ♤ ] - Three spades being pulled means there is trouble ahead, and it may not be getting better any time soon.

[ ♤ ♡ ♤ ] - A heart surrounded by two spades can indicate trouble in relationships or with the self, depending on the reading.

[ ♢ ♤ ♢ ] - A spade surrounded by two diamonds can indicate that a financial problem will eventually improve.

[ ♢ ♧ ♢ ] - A club surrounded by two diamonds can indicate that new business opportunities will be presented.

[ ♧ ♢ ♤ ] - A club followed by a diamond and then a spade can indicate that the person is heading towards a financial problem.

Onto the topic of reversals... Some people read them, some don't. That's your choice to make. Personally, I read reversals with all cards except the kings, queens and jacks.

My reason for this is because the kings, queens and jacks all represent people. My way of interpreting these cards describes their physical appearances more than who they are, although each are also associated with a general description of that person's essence for that reading. A person is not simply one thing or the other. Humans are complex beings, and we can show multiple faces depending on who we're with. You'll understand this better once we get to discussing each card's individual meanings.

The Jokers

Some people choose not to use the jokers in their readings. Some do, but describe the jokers as being the equivalent the the fool in tarot. I've even seen some try to fill in the entire major arcana of tarot into the jokers. My opinions here are that not using the jokers leaves out important cards that can help further clarify a reading, and that trying to use the jokers as a "fill in" for tarot's major arcana cards is inefficient.

You can choose to not use joker cards in your reading. That is your decision to make. I use them, though, and therefore I will be talking about their meanings here. I use Jake Richard's (an Appalachian practitioner and author of multiple books about Appalachian folk magic) interpretations of the jokers, which is described as the following.

🃏 Red Joker: The red joker is a witch or other conjurer, a person working against you in some way whether supernatural or not. Enemies can be tricky. But the cards know almost all, and it is hard to hide from them. If this card shows upright there is a threat from such a one, whether supernatural or not. Other cards can determine that, such as the nine of spades showing witchcraft. If reversed, there is either no threat or the threat doesn't walk this earth.

🃏 Black Joker: This card shows the presence of evil spirits, demons, haints, whatever you want to call them. Their intentions ain't good. If it shows with the red joker behind it, the spirit has been employed by another to do their bidding. If the red joker shows before it, someone is knowingly or unknowingly doing the spirit's work. Ghosts and spirits can work your mind to do, say or think things you've never thought of. Nothing good comes of this card unless it is reversed. Then there is no direct threat. The devil's not about.

Numerology

Numerology is used in a variety of different divination systems, including playing cards. It can help you begin to develop a general idea of the individual card's meaning. Here is a list of numerology meanings in playing card divination so that you can refer to it later, if you must.

Ace: Beginning, Independence, Individuality

Two: Pairings, Balance, Exchanges

Three: Growth, Improvement, Connection

Four: Stability, Security, Practicality

what is tarot? a crash course to the tarot deck.

hello, hello. i am gonna answer this one, manon, it will cover both questions.

it's all good that you don't know much about tarot. as i said in my about me post, i have been practicing tarot for nine years now! so it takes time to build up confidence and knowledge when it comes to reading! so a mini break down of tarot:

history: today's tarot appear most similarly to a 15th century italian game - it spread all over europe quite quickly. by the 18th century (shoutout to the enlightenment era for having nothing better to do than to make tools to help people better reflect on their life situation (yay printing press as well) AND boo to the puritans for demonizing the practice of any divination), french subcultures better developed meanings of the cards and began using it as a means of divination. this makes sense for european history because the great plague of 1738 occurred and people had already been turning to occultism for divination purposes (this is even remarked upon in journal of the plague year daniel defoe's book from 1722 regarding an outbreak in london 1665). while tarot is connected to / is credited to ancient egyptians, i ching, kabbalah, and many other older practices, the modern recognizable tarot deck originates in the 17th century.

so a tarot deck eventually came to contain 78 cards total. this deck can be split into the categories of major arcana (trionfi - triumphs or trump cards as they were known as in their early existence. arcanus - secret.) and the minor arcana.

major arcana (what is used in the matrix, or wyrd web as i have taken to calling it) are 22 cards. each card follows was was the typically hero's journey at the time (15th - 18th century hero's journey). the major arcana were meant to better form a storyline meaning to represent some higher power, a character, morals, and/or immoral feats. each card has a internal and external aspect as well as a individual and collective meaning.

while the minor arcana are a set of 56 cards that were originally your everyday pack of cards at the time. the minor arcana consisted then and now of four suits - fourteen cards each. four court cards per suit: king, queen (back then sometimes it was two kings as queens were often removed from "men's games"), knight, and page (at the time it was a jack). then cards ace to ten in each suit! like a modern deck of playing cards, the suits have four differing symbols - cups (hearts way back), wands (club or baton), pentacles (the diamond), and swords (the spade).

so now that that is cleared up - the rider waite smith version of the deck tends to be closest to original imagery, and is often a great starter deck as all the images, if looked at carefully, can provide insight to there meaning.

the magician is the 1 (manon ;)) card of the major arcana. take a good look at this guy.

the magician stands before a table in which all four elemental suits (wand, cup, pentacle, and sword - likely the the objects from the fool's (22's) bundle) are present. flowers bloom abundantly before the table. an ouroboros (the snake that swallows it's tail) and a infinity floats over his head - he burns a candle at both ends towards the heavens and points to the earth showing his connection to both the physical (pointing down and ouroboros) and the spiritual (the candle towards the heavens and the infinity sign over his head). this symbolizes balance similar to how his outfit is both red (passion) and white (purity).

the magician essence of the card claims abundance and having everything one could possibly need. the magician can connect to both the spiritual and physical realm - this is a power card (all the elements are in front of him to do as he pleases in the image on the card). a magician can do what they want and create whatever they wish to. but the reverse of a magician shows the misuse of power (suddenly the magician is "unnatural"; he wills the objects to stay on the table). the reversed image of the magician is manipulating you into believing up is down and down is up. they also distractingly point to the bush of flowers and not the table. hence a reversed magician struggles to see their ability to create - they block themselves from identifying who they are and what they want.

most every tarot reader will agree to individual card meanings, but a spread is often up for debate as multiple cards often interact with each other differently (that's an opinion of mine). the question(s) asked to a deck often hold some sway to card meaning as well - they often carry a different message based on the question.

the magician when asking about romance can indicate rekindling or entering a relationship. it may ask that you mind your emotions (cup on table) and thoughts (sword) while being grounded (pointing to earth) and passionate (red cloak and candle in the sky). meanwhile in a career or money reading, the magician indicates new opportunities that will lead to abundance. it could mean starting your own business or negotiating a raise. meanwhile in a relationship spread when i see the 3 of cups and the magician reversed (i denote that as rx), i know that one person is up to no good and is likely gaslighting / using the other person.

i promise that all/every major arcana will eventually be discussed as we continue down the road to discovering more about the wyrd web! every minor arcana is definitely up for grabs though as they will not be touched upon when examining the web.

I don't have an in-depth answer for 26 (Does your Tav have a treasured item with them? If yes, what is it and why is it special? If no, how do they feel about item sentimentality in general?) but suffice it to say Eike does, including mementos from their family/community and their Runs on the surface. As per the other questions...

7. What circumstances led to your Tav becoming their Class/Subclass?

Eike is a descendant of a group of deep gnomes who had been liberated by Eilistraean drow several generations ago and lived with them/under their protection since. Eike was a part of clergy but they were more interested in the hows and whys of magic entire and started dabbling in wizardry, letting their divine gifts fall by the wayside.

However since being infested with a tadpole and rashly accepting Illithid Powers without really knowing what it'd entail (due to good old Wizard Hubris) they began to doubt their judgement and in search of guidance and hope they turned back to Eilistraee. (they never really left but they've not gone the extra mile in their worship in a long while before the events of the game)

(also, while mechanically their cleric domain is Knowledge, if i were to play them in dnd i'd ask the dm to have their domain be more of a hybrid between Knowledge and Arcana)

14. How does your Tav feel about the city?

It's Big. Eike is no stranger to surface settlements but they used to stick to villages and towns on their Runs, they haven't been anywhere this populous before.

While they sympathize with Halsin's disheartened thoughts on the injustices of the city, they find a lot of his thoughts on nature and balance too black-and-white and somewhat naïve because they don't see people as separate from nature. Ultimately though, they don't think that city life is for them and would prefer living in a smaller scale community.

30. What are your Tav’s intentions/goals after the end of the game?

I should pre-face this by saying that i have not yet finished the game or even dealt with Caz but i do have a rough plan on how to approach it all.

They're gonna end up with a lot of vamprire spawn on their hands and helping with them will be their top priority. The ethos of Eilistraee is helping others, particularly helping drow to return to the surface. They find that the predicament of the spawn resonates with that and hope that other Eilistraeans see it in the same light, so their plan is to contact their temple (and through them, others) and ask for aid. That in itself is a hefty goal so i don't imagine they've thought much further ahead.

They also try to keep in touch with the party even after parting their ways (pardon the pun) and in their free time do research to solve Karlach's heart troubles, as well as being in a book club with Gale (by which i both mean that they use him to learn more wizard spells since RAW you need spell slots and not class levels to scribe those and that they genuinely are in a book club).

I kind of already know the broad strokes of this story, but it's interesting that my starting persona is Izanagi and the game is giving me an unskippable primer on the topic. Izanagi and Izanami were the parental gods of Japan. Izanami died during the creation of fire and wound up in the underworld Yomi. Izanagi went to get her but set his comb alight (a bamboo comb, huh) to get a look at Izanami and saw she was all gross and dead, he fled and put a boulder over the entrance of Yomi. Izanami (imo rightfully pissed) told him she would kill 1000 people a day. Izanagi said he would create 1500 a day.

Okay this is a bit different and random but aside from Arcana I'm really into the Sims 4 lol A few months ago I made most of the main six as sims but didn't really do anything with them until this past week where I loaded them into a new save file, gave them modern make overs, and made them a friend group plus my sim-self. There hasn't been alot of adventures but it's hilariously on point at times. Here are those examples.. Edit: I'm going to have to keep adding to this haha

Things the M6 did in my Sims 4 gameplay that just make sense:

Nadia immediately sitting next to Portia and them smiling and chat/flirting together

Muriel sitting in the corner reading a book instead of socializing with everyone

Muriel getting irrationally upset and walking outside as soon as Julian shows up

Julian breaking out into sobs before grabbing himself a bowl of cold peas to eat

Asra drifting from conversation to conversation between people before taking breaks to get chips/cook something or watch everyone sassily from the other side of the room

Asra just in general being aloof and doing their own thing

Their costumes for a costume party: Asra was a Hot Dog (no explanation needed), Julian was a pilot (they were out of pirates and it was the next best option?), Nadia was a Llamacorn mascot (to make Portia laugh), Portia was a criminal, Muriel just wore his pajamas (Jim Halpert energy)

Nadia breaking out wine for everyone (which is weird because in the game you can't have drinks without a bar and the house didn't have one lol)

Portia and Nadia dancing like certified party animals together

Muriel putting on a sad dog movie to watch while everyone hangs out but stands next to the TV instead of sitting down to watch it

Instead of hugs everyone greeting Muriel and vice versa with air kisses on either cheek

Muriel coming over and hanging out with my sim just to goof around, reading silently in the living room or use my computer

Asra and Muriel breaking off to hang out one on one and take turns going upstairs to use my sim's computer

Star gazing with Julian

Going to cafes with Asra and Portia as soon as my sim is off work

Inviting Muriel out to come to night clubs or bars just for him to come and stand there for 5 minutes before leaving

Julian scaring my sim playfully before flirting and talking about music and art

Muriel later scaring Julian for fun

Going ice skating with Julian and him constantly slipping and falling on his face

Asra just going wild alone on the dance floor while the rest of the club just watch in awe

Muriel coming into my sims house while she was at work and fixing her broken sink

I'll add a couple photos I took maybe but yes I'm still debating on making Lucio as a Sim haha I just don't want anyone to fight each other but at the same time I'm sure it'd be cathartic. I dunno, I'll think on it.

The Beginning - Beneath Miscellanium

Not the beginning of the setting in an origin myth sense (because, honestly, I'm stealing 4th editions' "gods did a light colonialism on the primordials" thing), but how this setting started in the real world.

The blame falls on Jeff Rients (who is also on tumblr but I can't find the name right now)

back in 2017-ish, Jeff was running a dungeon-crawl game on Google+, where any adherent of the Flailsnails Conventions could turn up and take part. Living in Australia, in a household that would not support me playing D&D at 3am, I could not take part, but I read the blog posts and watched from afar with envy as Jeff's multitudionous players got up to shenanigans in the dungeons, and traded, competed and organized when outside of it (the fact that the players founded a wizard library entirely off their own initiative was particularly cool to me).

Then I got a place to live that was back near the university where I had studied. The university with RPG club I had accidentally acquired a lifetime membership of. The RPG club that was starting new games in February. The new games that always needed more GMs.

AND the place was near a bar that hosted D&D on weekends.

So I decided that if I couldn't join Jeff's game, I would make my own with blackjack and hookers with a newer ruleset.

I had liked hearing about the wild variety of characters Jeff had seen due to allowing multiple different retroclones rulesets for character creation - but knowing that none of my players were interested in OSR stuff at the time, I determined that the best way to achieve this was to allow anything actively published by Wizards of the Coast. Any books, any unearthed arcana, anything (I later walked that back a little bit - no Ravnica backgrounds and NO MYSTICS JFC)

I cobbled together a couple of levels of dungeon and a vague reason why the dungeon content was so wildly varied, named the town above the dungeon Miscellanium both in honour to Jeff's Miscellanium of Cinder and the fact it a good Roman-sounding name for a place full of diverse weridos, worked out how to use a Facebook group to keep all the people involved up to date, and got going.

it was amazing.

The wednesday and saturday groups were, initially, mostly seperate. They would sometimes stumble on what each other had been doing, and would vaguely be aware of each others actions - I gave out XP for after-action reports, in-character being the result of adventurers bragging in the tavern between delves. Eventually as the dungeon sprawled out to the point where many players had only seen a small portion of it, resulting in one of my fondest memories:

P1: "Right, we're going to explore past the mushroom chamber [the chamber that, on the map, looks mushroom shaped], so we should go left" P2: "No, the mushroom chamber [the chamber full of mushrooms] is straight ahead!" P3: "You're both idiots, the mushroom chamber [the SECOND chamber full of mushrooms] is to the right!"

15 minutes, much laughter on my part, and much waving around of maps on the players part, later I pointed out to them that there might in fact be multiple chambers that could be described as "the mushroom chamber". After that, the two groups started sharing their maps.

In september, 7 months (both real and game world time) after the first discovery of the dungeon, the players collected together to create the Miscellanium Adventurers' Guild. They had argued about buying property in the city above the dungeon, until my lovely and very smart partner pointed out that they had de-monstered several city blocks of real estate down in the dungeon, and with enough magic and barricades, could claim more space than the guild would ever need. Watching the players work together to set that up was great, and it was even more awesome months later when the Guild was briefly beseiged by constructs from the deep levels.

Eventually, I ran out of content ideas, and the party found the bottom of the dungeon. I made up a bullshit magic excuse for running the same boss fight twice (so I wouldn't have to have 12 players in the one fight), and they slew the demigod-dragon-devil that the dungeon had been dreamed up to contain. At that point the game had run for 18 months, and 151 sessions, and the dungeon had felt the tread of more than 30 characters.

I'd had a lot of fun, but I hadn't done a huge amount of worldbuilding, except by implication: the game had only ever taken the PCs to the dungeon and the town above it, but there had been reference to an Empire, a very-recently-turned-Matriarchal orc state, somewhere with a lot of tieflings (so many tiefling PCs!), a fallen elven Kingdom with lots of missing princesses, and mistakes made by gods in older times.

After that, I moved on to something more story focussed - a more traditional D&D game with only 5 players, a plot, some semblance of an overworld map, and all that jazz. But I put details in that game that linked it to the previous one, and started imagining what the rest of the world would be like…

[One of the things I’m planning on doing with the World Tour theme is to have one hag per continent. The monster witch is a very common archetype, after all. This example is from Brazil, with a very convoluted pedigree. “Coco”, “cuca”, “cucuy”, etc, are all common names for bogeymen in Spanish and Portuguese. Tying the name cuca to an alligator-like hag was specifically the invention of Monteiro Lobato, an author who wrote a series of children’s books, Sitio do Picapau Amarelo. The cuca was an antagonist in only one of those books, but when they were adapted into TV, Cuca was promoted to a recurring antagonist, and the link between Cuca and Alligator was solidified. Also, she looks like this in the TV show:

The TV version of Cuca is something of a camp icon in Brazil, I’m led to believe.

Since Cuca is usually depicted at a cauldron or with potions, I decided to give my version alchemist abilities.]

Cuca CR 8 CE Monstrous Humanoid This creature is a humanoid alligator a head taller than a human, with luxurious hair. She clutches a wooden cane.

A cuca, or alligator hag, is a powerful creature of swamps and caves. They are universally malicious and have a taste for children, so are often used as bogeys and threats. A cuca is said to sleep only once every seven years, and so they have plenty of time to plot against the world of men and make their foul brews. Cucas are gifted alchemists, and often have plenty of poisons, potions and alchemical weapons on hand.

Cucas often travel abroad in disguise, using illusions to appear as a humanoid. They typically take a few rounds to prepare themselves with spells and extracts before they launch an attack, but most cucas have a short temper and can be goaded into foregoing such strategy. Cucas are gluttonous, and if they have an opportunity to snap up a Small opponent, will do so and swallow them whole. A cuca knows the advantage of a tactical retreat, but may lose themselves in the heat of battle.

Cucas live in flooded caverns, areas of swamp sectioned off by tall trees, and other such lairs. They require a dry place to set up their alchemical equipment, but typically sleep partially submerged. Their dwellings are often guarded by crocodiles and venomous snakes. A cuca is a consummate bully—she is cruel to her underlings and sycophantic to anyone obviously more powerful than her. A cuca is just as likely to cooperate with cruel fey as they are with other hags, and some actively avoid covens. A coven with at least one cuca member has access to the following spell-like abilities: animal shapes, greater magic fang.
