SILCO SURE LOVED JINX HUH.
He sure was 100% prepared to give up on his dream of a sovereign nation for his daughter, huh?
Like, man, nothing gets me like “villain is undone by their all-consuming love for another person.”
Fucked up, trauma riddled, awful, cruel, nasty manipulative crimes man wanted this child that he saw himself in (abandonment issues, hurt by adopted family) to be the Actual Worst, he wanted her to be strong and powerful in the killdeathmurderviolence so that she would flourish in the hellscape they lived in (that, of course, he had a significant hand in crafting, because of course he did, he’s just stewing in that violence) and never leave him ever like everyone else in his life to the point where he genuinely understood the too-soft brother that he literally murdered (revenge!). And he does this by being this weirdly soft, trusting guy when he is neither soft nor trusting around anyone else literally ever, no even his most loyal of underlings (god Sevika, bitch that sucks, you deserved better). He got the parental brain rot around his adopted daughter and he absolutely looses his shit at the idea of loosing her to the point where he is totally ok with giving up on his lifelong dream, because she is the embodiment of that dream. A broken girl from a broken city remade through violence into something dangerous. And in return she was the one who eventually literally killed him, because of course she did, she’s dangerous, you helped make her that way, and he was totally ok with that because, at the end, she was there with him, she didn’t leave him and he knew he would never betray her, and he’s assured in his knowledge that protecting his daughter was the only choice he could have made. And he goes calmly and gracefully into that oblivion by telling her that he loves her and it’s ok that she shot him full of bullets, he’s not mad and could never be mad at her and she’s perfect, but, of course, that seals Jinx’s fate because she just killed another person she loves, and Silco, the villain, is successful in the end because Powder falls down that well and drowns like he wanted her to, so Jinx could be strong, so she could show them, so she could show them all.
Jinx may credit her creation to VI, (I disagree, I think that match was lit by Piltover, Vi just gave it a name), but Silco saw that tiny flame and fanned it gently and patiently for years and years until Jinx, daughter of Zaun, his daughter, was a roaring fire ready to consume everything in her path, all because he loved her and let her get away with everything, and now she has neither of them.
And god, the TRAGEDY.

(Same anon from before) aahh thank u, you're too kind ahah 😊. I was wondering what you think in terms of Jayvik in season 2 and how they're going to approach the fall-out from game lore (I honestly was pleasantly surprised that their relationship in s1 may have been strained but ultimately u can still see that they deeply care for each other so How is the show gonna go down that path for real?). Also in general what do u think of divorce era Jayvik, im really warming up to it rn 🥺
Hello again nice anon! 💙
I really like divorce-era too (all the fics that have one of them approaching the other because they're too tired to fight anymore, "I never stopped loving you", or where they're only pretending to be enemies for show but they're actually still going out?? so much fan-content material ;v;) buut it does make me a bit sad for the exact reason you're mentioning: it's so obvious in S1 how they care for each other 😭
I only read their og lore after Arcane, but it seems like they went quite a different direction with them. I think their fallout would be based on Viktor turning to Singed and shimmer for help, and using the Hexcore in the way he did (it makes me so sad how Viktor's first thought was "Jayce will understand" and ultimately he probably won't.. T^T). And of course Viktor can't just stop because his life literally depends on it so his choice is quite clear there.. he'll also probably believe in changing lives this way (as it helped him) but Jayce will find it too radical. And then Viktor would likely move back to the undercity so he can make a difference there, and Jayce will have to take on a role with even more responsibilities due to the explosion that probably killed most of the council.. so he wouldn't even have time for Viktor :'< Then all the connection he'll have left with Viktor will be rumors and thus he has to believe that Viktor turned "evil" and, as painful as it will be, he will have to accept that his old partner is gone.
At least that's how I can imagine! ;v; If you have any theories yourself I'd love to hear them! 💙 I really love the way Arcane gave them a story instead of leaving them to be like "literal superhero" and "basic bad guy" type of characters ahah!

The fact that Vi and Jinx's relationship is likely destroyed forever at the end of s1 causes an actual ache in my heart.

Ive come to the dawning realization that when vander attacked silco he wounded his left eye and in act 1 when silco captures him vander ends up wounded in his left eye too

I wonder if the different fight animation that had Ekko and Jinx fight as kids in episode 7 was purely from Jinx's perspective as we've seen the more "artsy" animation be used as a metaphor for Jinx's mental state. Because when it cuts to the "real world" and Ekko proceeds to physically hurt Jinx, she looks genuinely distressed and fearful upon being hurt and pinned.

I like to think Jinx had to redraw the monkey multiple times because it kept steaming over while Cait was too busy angsting

- You’re just saying that.
- Do yourself a favor, cupcake. Go back to that big, shiny house of yours and just... forget me, okay?

I want to scream about how detailed Fortiche made Arcane’s face rigs for 100 years. Look at how Vi’s cheek has a deformer to subtly stretch her skin when Cait brushes it. Look at how her nose bends as it drags on the floor. Look how her neck tendons move with her fast breathing. Look how you can see her throat gulp!! There are literally thousands of other examples of this level of visual care throughout the show, I don’t even know where to start??????

Another thing that is so consistently good about Arcane is the total lack of male gaze in the entire show. The creators obviously had to use the character design for some of the characters that included skimpier outfits (Jinx's outfit, and the female Enforcer uniforms) but at no point did I feel like either Jinx or Caitlyn were sexed up. Jinx's outfit seemed to fit her character and wasn't used to sexualize her at all, and Caitlyn wore more practical clothing any time she was left to her own devices/not in the enforcer uniform, giving the impression that the enforcer uniform was more of a nod to in-world sexism, but not exploited as a vehicle to sexualize her. More than that, I thought the female characters were so beautifully nuanced in a way I can't really identify in any other big show or movie right now. Vi was allowed to be angry and violent and rough around the edges without becoming some anti-butch, anti-masculine-woman caricature. Grayson carried herself with a beautiful masculine dignity - reminiscent of the nobility of medieval knights, trying to do the right thing, pledging her weapon to defending her people. Medarda was drop-dead gorgeous but her political savvy was her most highlighted feature and her male love interest did not at all overshadow that aspect of her character. Sevika was allowed to be a tough, badass villain, and they didn't make her seductive or sexual, which are features that are so often highlighted in villainous women. I could go on but man, I feel like they're doing the most when it comes to doing their female characters justice. The more I think about this show, the more I find to love.
