I’m a new trainer from Hoenn startin’ my journey. Gonna try gettin’ all the gym badges, filling the Pokédex, all that fun stuff! Or whatever…

This is me ‘n my Mudkip (now Marshstomp), Pebble. He was a gift from Professor Birch. He’s also the lil rascal in my profile picture.

(( hi! new pokeblog alert! this is a blog for my Hoenn MC, Arcelia- but right now she’s going by Sapphire to stay on the down low. for plot reasons that will be explained later! basically I’m replaying Alpha Sapphire and wanted to document her journey, but in roleplay format.

if you follow me on @xgoldenlatiasx then you might already know Arcelia’s lore, but if you don’t I’ll give a quick rundown (you can skip reading this though if you’d rather not know what to expect):

Arcelia is the daughter of Archie, and grew up a member of Team Aqua. Her whole life, she had complete confidence in Archie’s goals… at least, until the night she’s visited by a strange prophetic vision of her father meeting his demise at the hands of Kyogre.

Scared and unsure of how to confront her dad, she runs away, where she soon ends up in Littleroot Town. After saving Professor Birch from a wild Poochyena, she’s offered a roof over her head and warm place to sleep at his lab. Over the last few weeks, she’s been trying to repay him by acting as an assistant alongside his son Brendan… but it hasn’t exactly been easy work. Noticing her stress, Birch offered her a Pokémon of her own and suggested she go with Brendan on a trip around the region, in order to fill the Pokédex and collect all eight gym badges.

Now embarking on her journey, she’s excited but hesitant- both with the knowledge of her father’s possible fate looming over her, and the unfamiliar world she’d been warned was cold and unforgiving waiting for her to explore.

Arcelia has more stuff that’ll happen after her journey, so at some point you might see a big timeskip into her adulthood. for now though: Hoenn shenanigans GO!! ))

It had been a couple weeks since Arcelia officially met and took care of Shawn. Against her better judgement she had slipped out of his arms the next morning. Not wanting to be there when he awoke from his drunken haze he had previously been in. If there was any ounce of him that even remembered the night before and regretted it all she didn’t want to push her luck even further than she already had. Not without leaving a note and a fresh bottle of tequila she snuck back in. The note read; ‘Hey S, in the off change you remember last night and don’t hate me. My number is 000-000-0000. Thought I’d replace what I took. Don’t drink it all in one sitting... p.s If I’m wrong... burn after reading” - A ‘ signing off with a winkie face. 

Arcelia spent this day as she normally would. Coffee, breakfast, a walk through town only a mere 100 or so feet behind her family who had idea she was there. The normal.

arcelia was born to a family of fairly comfortable means, the equivalent of middle-class. but everything changed when her father made a bad investment based on bad advice of someone he mistakenly trusted, and they lost almost everything

her mother left in the middle of the night shortly thereafter, leaving arcelia with her father. no note, no explanation, not so much as a goodbye. arcelia has absolutely no interest in ever finding or meeting her, and will in fact pretend not to have a mother  

using the money and connections left to him, her dad repaired an old ship that had been sitting, unused, for years, and the two of them took to scavenging. mostly just for parts, but if they could pick up something extra they always would, selling them to a slowly (but steadily) growing network of connections. not all of it was entirely above-board, they did take on some smuggling jobs as well, but never anything too risky. 

of course, the ship was basically falling apart from underneath them from the get-go, so arecelia learned repair skills fast, picking some of it up simply out of necessity and learning from other people along the way.

what started out as simple necessity became real skill and also a passion, she has a real knack for fixing things and it was made apparent early. 

unfortunately, her father was older when arcelia was born, and his health starts to deteriorate in her early teens, to the point where he can no longer fly the ship. she eventually forces him to land and finds care for him somewhere along the way, but is left with the fact that she’ll need to make money to pay for his upkeep.

having little by way of formal education, she starts offering the only thing she really has: her skill with machinery. it takes a while, it takes a lot of facing down sneers and laughter and derision, but she takes odd jobs as they come and then bigger and bigger jobs, eventually ending up on a well-renowned pirate crew, but something goes wrong (what she won’t say) and she finds herself in need of a new position. 

she’s alone much if not most of the time, working. she can be sharp, sarcastic,  but she’s not generally unfriendly. though she’d never put it that way, she has something akin to a “work hard, play hard” mentality. she’s happy to relax and play, but she can also snap back into Work Mode as soon as she needs to. 

she prides herself on her work and doing it well, and part of that - - in her mind - - is getting to know the ship inside and out, as well - - if not better than - - the owner. she makes it a point to learn a new ship as well as she can, as fast as she can. she proves herself well and she proves herself quickly.

A quick lore note here, because I’m not ready to make a bigass file:

The Mad Dog Bandits are a Chinese gang that is basically the Water Margin outlaws but entirely made up of women. And nowhere as big as 108, lmao. 18 will do, as in the (Water Margin defined) 18 Arms of Wushu.

Heigau is very likely a jian wielder.

Regardless of what sword it is, she’ll pick up a sword. Because her beloved father and uncle were sword-wielders.

I still have to design Jiaying and Juemin, but as Jiaying is the daintier woman while Juemin is a stronger brickhouse, Juemin might be given a pair of chui because those are fucking AWESOME and I always wanted to have a character that wields them.

There is a fourth Mad Dog Bandit who is practically an homage character to Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi, except she’s a fully transwoman instead of a genderfluid person who uses male pronouns (at least that’s how the Viz Media English manga translation seems to write him as).

I have yet to give Not!Nuriko a name, as well as how to design her manner of dress. I’m just not sure if sticking her in Qing cheongsams will work for her overall flowing silhouette I often see in those in hanfu, and Peking Opera as it would be known today would be anachronistic by the early 1700s. Maybe she’s a major rebel and still wears hanfu? I don’t know. We shall see.
