"But no new content 😭!!" that means jack shit. We have several literal decades worth of content we can watch or rewatch. The writers and now the actors too are not only fighting for their livelihoods but for the futures and the soul of their industries.

Fuck new content, fuck the executives and producers and powers that be who make millions upon millions while the people, who create the content that make them rich, can barely make ends meet.

Here's some suggestions to anyone who doesn't know what to watch;

Nostalgia rewatch; watch old favourites, shows and movies you haven't seen in years but that stayed with you, the ones that mattered to you.

Watch the shows your parents didn't let you watch growing up because they thought the show was "too mature" for you.

Watch the shows and movies people have recommended to you that you never found time for before.

Watch indie films!!!

Look at different genres than what you've watched before and give them a go.

Try films and shows from other countries and/or in other languages. There's dubs and subtitles available and these shows and movies can be just as good if not better than their American and/or English speaking counterpart.

And remember when watching shows, that you do not have to binge them all at once, you can have your own personal tv schedule and watch say an episode a week like you would've done when/if they aired before streaming

Look at some older films and shows, why does it matter if it's in black and white or the camera quality is lower than 4k and hd, so long as it's good? And so many of those shows and films, while not perfect, have aged better than shows that have come out in the last decade, like the golden girls for instance has aged so much better than say glee (ok many many many shows aged better than glee but let's be real for a second, music was better when artists were terrified of the Glee cast doing a better version of their song on the show. I do still wish it was a show my mom didn't let me watch tho, lmao glee was fine but no, her twelve year old being obsessed with Les mis and rewatching it religiously was cause for concern 😂😭 I was just as obsessed with glee for seasons 1-4 especially).

It's ok to indulge your inner child and rewatch the classics tm. The shows and movies you grew up with. Rewatch the shows that got you through sick days from school, the tv movies you remember watching premiere, the cartoons that MADE your Saturday mornings, etc.

On the topic of animation, that's literally an unlimited genre you can tap into, which rarely gets the recognition and respect it deserves.

Don't be afraid to watch the one season wonders, the shows that networks and streamers cancelled after one season in spite of strong reviews and good ratings. Or the shows that ended abruptly around the season 3 or 5 mark because networks and streamers cancelled them because they didn't want to negotiate contracts and have to pay the actors and writers more. Get angry, remember what the actors and writers are fighting for.

The privilege of older shows that either concluded naturally or that writers were given a heads up on might be on it's last season is that you get closure, unlike with the above. That might not mean an ending is good but a bad ending is better than a cliffhanger. There's always fix its fics for a bad ending. And if the ending is good, it's typically GOOD in my experience. The fear of a cliffhanger and zero closure has already turned many against watching new content until the show is renewed for another season or is fully wrapped (and fans don't hate the ending).

Watch the shows that were in their day or are popular or critically acclaimed, they usually hold up to the hype.

Watch the old shows and movies your favs were on/in before they were your favs.

Try a soap or a telenovela, they can be entertaining af (holby city my love, Tuesdays have never been the same since the BBC robbed me of you).

If you liked a reboot or a revival of a show, try the original (in certain cases, the og is even better, see boy meets world v girl meets world).

If you like period dramas, try shows and films from other countries based on their history. A lot of times when people are telling their own history it goes far better than when Hollywood tries it (see the many times Hollywood has actors brought in because producers think they're good for box office and they then go on to butcher the accent their character should have, see Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and so many others who have absolutely butchered the Irish accent over the years for instance. There's also many many instances even recently of just blatant whitewashing see Matt Damon as the last samurai...).

Listen to recommendations, watch the shows and movies you know your family and friends loved but you never got around to watching.

Ok, so, lemme see if I got this straight.

Phantom of the Opera, the longest running Broadway musical in history, is closing. Tabloid rag The New York Post scooped it at around 1pm Eastern, 9/16. It was later confirmed by the slightly more trustworthy, and frustratingly pay-walled, New York Times. The cast did not find out about this until several hours after the news media, in the middle of rehearsal, via Zoom call.  24+ hours after and all official social media for the show is still dead silent, including ALW’s and Cameron Mackintosh’s Twitter accounts.

The media are postulating dwindling ticket sales affected by the COVID pandemic.  According to NPR:

“Box office grosses have fluctuated since the show reopened after the pandemic — going as high as over $1 million a week but also dropping to around $850,000. Last week, it hit $867,977 and producers may have seen the writing on the wall.”

The New York Post claims that despite the big numbers, the show was operating at a loss, losing roughly $1 million per month after it’s reopening in October of 2021. The Post did not specify who it’s sources were for this information.  Actual numbers for the operating costs of Phantom are conspicuously absent from all media reporting.

The final performance is slated for February 18th of next year.

If this feels familiar to fans, it should. It is painfully similar to what happened to Phantom’s West End production, which was abruptly downscaled during the pandemic’s theater closures.  Members of the cast and crew who had been put on leave at the time were, again, notified by Zoom call that they would not be returning, including 13 of the 27 orchestra members and cast member, Philip Griffiths, who had been with the production since 1990. (Prior to the pandemic, Cameron Mackintosh had also downscaled the West End production of Les Mis, overhauling the production and cutting the orchestra to 14 musicians, down from 22.)

The “writing” is certainly “on the wall”, but I have a feeling it has less to do with red ink and more to do with Cameron Mackintosh having a known habit of cheapening productions to increase profits with little regard for the people who actually make the shows happen.

anyway! it's pretty solid that Prouvaire as he finally appears is largely an homage to Hugo's old friend Gérard de Nerval, who had died in 1855; a LOT about Prouvaire's description overlaps with how people talk about Gérard, and the conversation where he's arguing with everyone about the old gods still existing lines up EXTREMELY with conversations that other people remembered having with him ; there's THIS :

Jean Prouvaire was in love; he cultivated a pot of flowers, played on the flute, made verses, loved the people, pitied woman, wept over the child, confounded God and the future in the same confidence (LM 3.4.1, Hapgood)

“God is dead, perhaps,” said Gerard de Nerval one day to the writer of these lines, confounding progress with God and taking the interruption of movement for the death of Being.(LM 5.1.20)

(Hugo still trying to still have this conversation with his friend via novel guts me more than a little!! People are people and we never stop wanting to find the right thing to say oh geez I'm crying for real)

Bahorel , who dies in the same first-charge attack that takes Prouvaire, is also a (even more obvious) homage to a friend; Petrus Borel , who had died in 1859.

They're considered pretty minor figures today, but they were both really noteable names in their day, which is to say...about the late 1820s/early 1830s; they were two of Hugo's most trusted lieutenants in the battle of Hernani, held in French Romantic memory as a breakout event for the movement. And, importantly, they were the first of that core group of more radical Romantics to die.

So while i think there is a lot going on character- and symbol-wise with them being the first two Amis down, I also think there's definitely an Acknowledgement in them being the first of the named group to go; they get the sort of heroic deaths they'd have liked, and maybe the closest thing to Good deaths on the barricade until OFPD? and agh I'm emotional, QUICK tell me your theories before I start crying harder

LES MIS CHARACTERS AT DISNEY WORLD

Marius: absolutely cannot believe that there is never a line for Muppet 3D. Favorites rides: Muppet 3D and Journey into Imagination with Figment definitely. thinks the Disney junior dance party is cool even though he's an adult

Javert: hunting Valjean, no time for rides. goes to customer service asking if they've seen a strong older fellow and his daughter walking around magic kingdom. (Alternative: works there) however, he does like one ride. favorite rides: The Haunted Mansion

Enjolras: forcibly removed from animal kingdom for trying to free the animals, forcibly removed from magic kingdom for trying to start an uprising against the king of this supposed kingdom, is only allowed at EPCOT and Hollywood Studios now. Favorite rides: he thinks toy story mania is ok, that's basically it. Definitely a fan of the World Showcase though.

Valjean: literally just there because cosette wants to go, favorite rides are peter pan's flight and the nemo ride.

Cosette: Absolute thrill ride fanatic, favorite ride is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind because yes. Likes watching the fireworks w/ Marius. People mistake her for being a Disney princess 24/7

ENTIRE THENARDIER FAMILY: Trying to actually bond with each other for once, gets in absolutely insane escapades. They lose Gavroche for like 6 hours at Animal Kingdom and Madame Thenardier's like ''eh he'll be fine'' and later they find him hanging out in like, the monkey habitat somehow. They also lose their car for like another 6 hours in the parking lot and Monsieur Thenardier is like ''you brats were supposed to remember the goddamn number'' until he realizes Gavroche is missing again. Favorite rides/attractions: Gav - Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, Eponine - Slinky Dog Dash probably, Madame + Monsieur Thenardier - probably Mission Space or anywhere where they can easily steal from people.

Les Amis (Includes Enjolras, Marius, and Ep/Gav despite the fact that I mentioned them already. They go on multiple trips aight): They all go on Kali River Rapids @ Animal Kingdom (before Enj was banned) and Enjolras ends up looking like a grumpy wet cat after it. Courf's favorite ride is Soarin', 100%.

NETFLIX DROP 01: TRAILER, ANNUNCI E ANTEPRIME DEL NUOVO EVENTO ONLINE

Devil May Cry, Tomb Raider e Blue Eye Samurai fra le grandi soprese arrivate durante la premiere live di Castlevania Nocturne!

Ve lo avevo anticipato e non poteva quindi farsi attendere il riassuntone del primo DROP 01 di Netflix, lo speciale evento virtuale in diretta streaming su YouTube e Twitch, imbastito per unire il watch party in anteprima di Castlevania: Nocturne e qualche breve ma gustoso sneak peek di alcune novità, lato animazione, attualmente in cantiere.

Purtroppo riguardo a Pluto siamo stati scammati, non hanno fatto vedere nulla di nuovo. Hanno semplicemente ripassato il trailer spaccamascella uscito un paio di mesi fa.

Tutto sommato, però, è stata un'ora e mezza piacevole, fra episodi - che non sono riuscito a seguire al verso, se non a spezzoni ahimè - e brevi teaser e showcase di merchandise vari. Un evento dal formato leggero, informale e conciso, che mi piacerebbe si ripetesse sinceramente.

Capisco che eventi più corposi come la Geeked Week e TUDUM siano maggiormente attesi in generale, ma le presentazioni in pillole, a mio modo di vedere, sono decisamente più fruibili e, appunto, più efficaci.

Cominciamo con un primo annuncio MOTIVAZIONALE (*wink wink*). Dante, Vergil e Lady di nuovo in versione animata, 8 episodi, più stagioni in programma.

La sceneggiatura è stata concepita da Adi Shankar (Castlevania) and Alex Larsen (Yasuke), mentre il tutto porta la firma di STUDIO MIR (The Legend of Korra, Dota: Dragon's Blood, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf).

Mostrato un teaser che annuncia una terza stagione per la serie con protagonista il celebre riccio di SEGA. Ad un'occhiata da profano, ha tutta l'aria di una grandissima cutscene, ma non sembra male.

🔶🔸CAPTAIN LASERHAWK: A BLOOD DRAGON REMIX

Altra produzione targata Adi Shankar, questa volta in mano allo studio BOBBYPILLS, che la chat di Twitch ha subito categorizzato come Suicide Squad made in Ubisoft e la chat di Twitch ha sempre ragione :v

Fra ultraviolenza in stile retro anni '90 e ironia, questo spinoff dello spinoff di Far Cry 3 (ci hanno infilato pure Rayman!!) sembra vare le carte in regola per rivelarsi una visione divertente. Il trailer ci dà appuntamento per il 19 ottobre.

🔶🔸BLUE EYE SAMURAI

A quanto pare questo progetto era inizialmente comparso per la prima volta nel 2020, ma me lo devo essere perso.

Nata da un'idea dei coniugi Amber Noizumi e Micheal Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049), è stata sostanzialmente presentata come una "storia di vendetta nel periodo Edo - Kill Bill incontra Yentl".

Come biglietto da visita è intrigante, ma ammetto che la trama di base mi ha lasciato con qualche dubbio. In sostanza, la nostra protagonista in cerca di vendetta, è una meticcia con gli occhi azzurri e per questo viene discriminata e trattata come una "creatura della vergogna". Le frontiere del Giappone sono ancora chiuse e razzismo e misoginia sono di casa, quindi che fare? Ci si traveste da uomo e si va a sbudellare gaijin finché non si trova quello che è tuo padre, l'occidentale che ti ha resa diverss e reietta dalla nascita. Ok...?

La serie, che arriverà in streaming il 3 novembre, a livello tecnico e di atmosfera si presenta molto bene comunque, quindi vedremo. Giudicate voi, ecco il treailer.

🔶🔸MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVOLUTION

Clip in anteprima anche per la nuova serie di He-Man e i Dominatori dell'Universo, che approderà sulla piattaforma nel 2024.

Pu confermando una vaga continuità con gli eventi della divisiva Masters of the Universe: Revelation, la serie è stata presentata ufficialmente come standalone, suggerendo un qualche tipo di correzione di rotta riguardo alla narrativa.

🔶🔸TOMB RAIDER: THE LEGEND OF LARA CROFT

E dulcis in fundo, anche sul gran finale abbiamo chiuso con il botto, con l'adattamento animato di un'altra storica icona videoludica: Lara Croft!

Preannunciata un paio di anni fa, ma anche qua io non ne ho alcun ricordo, la serie si ispira alla trilogia reboot di Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider e Shadow of the Tomb Raider).

In programma per il 2024, è prodotta in casa Powerhouse Animation (Castlevania, Masters of the Universe: Revelation).

Per chi si fosse perso la premiere in anteprima e volesse comunque un assaggino di Castlevania: Nocturne, nel mentre aspetta di poter maratonare la prima stagione (vi ricordo che esce domani by the way), ecco i primi sette minuti della prima puntata in omaggio.

Quel poco che sono riuscito a vedere, non mi è dispiaciuto affatto, ma la sensazione che ho avuto è stata quella di una serie molto introduttiva, con in mente un arco narrativo da sviluppare potenzialmente su più stagioni e che quindi potrebbe risultare un po' lentina e all'acqua di rose. Per ora mi mantengo curioso.

Je me sens vide.

C’est bizarre, tu te dis ce n’est que des youtubers, tu ne les as jamais rencontré, et puis ce n’est pas comme si ils arrêtaient tout. Et pourtant, ça me touche beaucoup cette annonce. Voilà Vilebrequin c’est fini!

Peut-être que c’est la soudaineté de l’annonce qui me donne cette impression d’abandon. Une semaine ils prennent un rond point à 130 et celle d’après, ils disent au revoir. Comme ça, sans préavis, sans indication au préalable.

Je ne leur en veux pas, ce n’est pas une critique. En vrai, je comprends leurs décisions. J’ai toujours détesté les séries qui ne savent pas s’arrêter à temps (looking at you spn).

Et honnêtement, après le 1er gp et le mondial de l’auto ça s’est vu que Sylvain était à bout. Surtout dans la vidéo où ils ont fait voler la voiture. J’avoue que je ne sais pas si cette vidéo a été tournée avant ou après le gp, mais ça m’a vraiment marqué de voir Sylvain dans cet état où tu sentais qu’il tirait sur la corde.

Ce qui me manque aussi avec cette annonce, c’est la réaction des gens. Je m’attendais a un peu plus de bruit du côté d’autres youtubeurs mais à part Etienne Moustache, j’ai rien vu passer pour les saluer. Ok ils sont pas mort et ils s’arrêtent pas d’être présent sur les réseaux, mais quand même, ça manque de réaction envers Vilebrequin en tant que soi.

Après comme j’ai toujours beaucoup été dans des fandoms actifs où dès qu’il se passe quelque chose on en entend parler pendant 3 jours, c’est plus dur d’accepter la chose quand je vois pas de réaction d’autres personnes…

Bref tout ça pour dire, qu’ils auront été une hyper fixation pendant presque 2 ans (bien que je les regardais avant mais je suis devenue vraiment fan qu’il y a 2 ans) et que maintenant il n’y aura plus rien. J’ai du mal à m’y faire. Ça m’a bien mis un coup sur la tête. Comme une rupture qu’on voit pas venir ou comme arriver à la fin totalement inattendu d’un bon livre, il y a cette espèce de dépression « post bonne chose », à laquelle il faut un peu de temps avant de pouvoir s’y faire. Là c’est pareil, je vais avoir besoin de temps pour digérer la nouvelle et pouvoir passer à autre chose…
