I’m gonna bring back #mole interest real quick to celebrate a huge conservation success story that just broke! The De Winton's golden mole, an african mole species that hasn’t been seen in almost 90 years, has just been rediscovered in Port Nolloth, South Africa. The project to find this elusive mole utilized a specially trained border collie named Jessie to detect and track the De Winton’s golden mole along with more than a dozen other mole species. When Jessie finds evidence of mole activity and alerts the scientists she is rewarded with her favorite thing- a game of catch with her tennis ball.

Environmental DNA analysis used with Jessie’s tracking had confirmed the presence of the De Winton’s golden mole when many believed it to be extinct already!

The eye thing is something I noticed with this new collection, too, and it is upsetting me. The Backpack Jellycats all have beady black eyes but the new Backpack Puppy has stitched eyes, for example. And this collection in general has a lot of non-beady-eyed Jellycats. Maybe other people prefer stitched eyes but to me it makes the Jellycat look lifeless and sort of cheap.

So no, I am NOT a fan of stitched eyes. I love the classic black, beady eyes. Almost all Jellycats have those eyes and it's one of the things I originally loved about the brand. I'm very afraid they will change over to more designs with stitched eyes, primarily to save production costs. All that said, there are always exceptions. I enjoy the stitched eyes on the new Bryno Dino and Adon Dragon!
