Xmen Unlimited Infinity Comics #62-#67 “A World Without X” (aka Age of Apocalypse island of stupid edition)

heyhey, look who found a way to finally read this! so when this was announced, i was intrigued; AoA is my favorite Xmen story/setting, and to be fair the House of Stupid 90s edition wasn’t *that* terrible and it was fun to see how they could creatively mimic the island of stupid using only the 90s animated stock. so can the same be said for AoA?

this is long because i’m covering the whole story, so lets save some dash space with a cut huh

so...Chuckie boy is annoyed that he’s over worked...or that no one cares about him/are too busy to care about him...idk, i have no sympathy for him to start with so i probably am missing the point. Logan tells him to suck it up while beating him up in a sparring match, so that’s nice. then him and Rachel are on the Astral Plane building something?? (why is the Astral PLANE now a physical dimension??) and Nightmare shows up to throw Chuck into AoA. 

so ok, this isn’t “what if Xavier had been killed off and Apocalypse rose to power” but “What a Wonderful Life”. i guess that can work, plus this is a short format so yeah that’s fine.

Sinister just had Xavier clones...mk, and is surprised that this one’s awake because that’s the body Nightmare shoved Chuck into. ok, cool, that works. this Sinister is the more jokey one of the island though and not the AoA one, but alright... Chuck tries to call for Logan but...

uh yeah...Laura wasn’t in AoA. “but KP she didn’t exist when AoA came out so of course blahblahblah” haha i know that, but in the 2000s after she was created, there was an X-23 counterpart introduced in the anniversary stories, and she was not Laura. again, again, semantics i know, but like i said i like AoA. and again, this is the island of stupid doing AoA so they’ll use what pieces they have. plus...

i was going to make a joke about him eyeballing due to you not wearing a shirt, but then the rest of this dialog just slammed me in the feels. it’s official, i love this. also adorable to watch Kyle and Laura go play in the yard.

ok, so our X-team here is Rogue, iceman, and Sunspot as usual, so that’s good. Cypher and Proteus i can give them, because they’re island folks. idk who Tempus is, i thought that was Moira but...

so the explanation is a little weird but it works well enough i guess; plus it gives the baby Charles vibe without having it be Magneto and Rogue’s kid. anyways, Tempus is part of the Five i guess? and i just now realize that Chuck is Bishop in this, the guy that knows  the timeline is wrong and how to fix it. the good guys are then like “cool lets do the island of stupid here to fix everything” however...

Sinister says the same to Apocalypse with the added caveat of “hey let’s make a clone army to invade the multiverse”.

so the good guys are going to raid the pens for the missing Five members, the bad guys are planning to capture their members...

you are leaving Victor and Kyle out of this assault??? (Laura is on the Next panel and got cut off whoops). boo on you. you just lost your SUPER status. also where’s Blink???

so fight time. Darkchylde (who i don’t believe was in the original, but island so hey) summons magic zombies of dead Xmen? fight time. Xavier waxing about being a teacher and how his Xmen are so much better because he taught them. blahblahblah

oh Victor and Kyle are here. good. the Pack is sticking together i guess

Moira gets a good line about not focusing on fixing the past or over thinking the future, just living in the now. so that’s a nice contrast to her murderbot normal self. i say they AoAed her well then.

kaiju smash! lol. has Holocaust been Nemesis for a while? or was that just changed for this? i’m not sure if that feels correct or not...

Chuck melts Sinister’s brain after Sinister beats him up. Apocalypse says he’s too smart for that...so Chuck manifests his wife and...blah. why is Genesis such a huge deal? if it was this easy to defeat Apocalypse all these decades, just gotta talk about his wife, why has he been so hard to stop. i know the answer is “magic of retcons” but still.

Chuck complains how mind wiping is totally a bad thing to do...despite the fact that he does that on the regular...the day is saved? Chuck seems to die (in a cliché La Pieta pose), so...happy ending?

ah boo, there’s more. so Nightmare goes “haha that was round one of torture, lookit how evil and cool i am” and Chuck is all “nuuh looser i’m winning”

ok, i’ll give you that part of his argument, even though Moira seemed to have more lines, Victor kinda had more of the emotion even if it wasn’t the focus.

so blahblahblah, Nightmare trips an alarm and all the Grey-Summers ladies come in to save Chuck. Chuck talks about how the Xmen are an idea and will never die, because hope eternal even if he’s not there, blahblahblah.

so Logan takes him hot tubbing to unwind. ok...didn’t see this turning into a gay porno...

is that a nod to the AoA-esque 90s episode “One Man’s Worth”? because Logan was a main character of that

oh, oh great, he’s gonna try to invade other realities and convert them to his hivemind of terribleness. that, that’s just brilliant -.-

so we jump back to the AoA, which i guess is real and not just a vision created by Nightmare, cause their gang sets up an island seed? and is all “welp let’s wait for the real world to find us”. and Victor still refuses to wear a shirt XD

SO how did this stack up overall? you know, actually pretty good. it’s a super short read, and it’s own little pocket world, so it doesn’t affect anything in the grand scheme. it’s the stock Wonderful Life plot, and if it wasn’t done to rise up a character who’s so terrible, it’d’ve hit all the correct notes i’m sure. but it hit enough of the good ones. and it did a good job mimicking it’s inspiration using different pieces. if this story makes it to print like some of the other Xmen Unlimited ones have, i’d be willing to grab it. the art was good (turns out it was the same art team as the House of Stupid 90s edition, which i also really enjoyed the art on too), the writing was good. a very nice and quick one and done.

Harry Styles Reacts to Banana Innuendo Rumors by Making EVEN MORE Banana Innuendos part TWO

Good morning/evening/night to Harry’s post and Harry’s post ONLY! (Okay that’s not true but it was definitely a highlight of my day). In case people haven’t seen it yet, it’s Harry in a light blue custom made suit putting a penis banana in his mouth. The picture is captioned “Bring Back Manly Men” so take a suck on THAT Candace Owens! It was only one of many great pictures in his variety shoot (including another, um, fruity picture of him biting into a pomegranate okay Persephone we get it), but Harry did indeed choose That One to post on This, the day after banana necklace dickscourse, BLESS. Harry’s interview was a little more in depth than they have been in the past, touching upon his feelings on race (“Historically, I can’t think of any industry that’s benefited more off of Black culture than music. There are discussions that need to happen about this long history of not being paid fairly. It’s a time for listening, and hopefully, people will come out humbled, educated and willing to learn and change”), as well as his tattoos (the only time he regrets them is in the DWD makeup chair), his love of reading, fashion and art, his exercise routine (Kid Harpoon couldn’t keep up!),  and his feelings on success and acclaim (“It’s never why I do anything...it's always nice to know that people like what you’re doing, but ultimately — and especially working in a subjective field — I don’t put too much weight on that stuff...Fans are the best A&R”). 

The problems arose - as they so often do - when One Direction was mentioned. The article said that “The proof [of the band’s benefits] is in the relatively seamless solo transitions of at least three of its members- Payne, Malik and Horan in addition to Styles- each of whom has landed hit singles on charts in the U.K., the U.S. and beyond”. Leaving aside the bad math (that's 4 people!) one name, of course, is notably missing: Louis has in fact enjoyed quite a lot of success both with Walls (remember when his album went #1 on iTunes in the UK AND the US literally 2 months ago?) and his pre-Walls singles like “Back To You” and “Just Hold On”. It got worse because the author tried to back up her claim with Harry’s quote, “When you look at the history of people coming out of bands and starting solo careers, they feel this need to apologize for being in the band...but we loved being in the band...I think there’s a wont to pit people against each other. And I think it’s never been about that for us. It’s about a next step in evolution. The fact that we’ve all achieved different things outside of the band says a lot about how hard we worked in it”. By linking her own words with Harry's quote she made it seem as though Harry said it to agree with her biased take, which we'd know he didn't even if we hadn't heard him say this exact quote without that slant multiple times before. Fans were quick to point out both to the author and to Variety that they were wrong (to describe the reaction mildly), and the author rather than fixing the mistake, doubled down and began blocking fans. Plenty of people were quick to say that of course HSHQ and Harry had approved this content, despite more knowledgeable fans trying to be heard protesting that that is not how it works. (Remember how just recently Vogue got Harry’s whole ass FAMILY situation wrong and it was not corrected until after print, for example?) In fact, even the magazine didn't really proofread this- the print version of the article is different and says, “The proof is in the relatively seamless solo transitions of at least three of its members - Styles, Malik and Horan”, effectively erasing both Louis AND Liam. It's an annoying take either way, but it's one the author more than likely picked up by doing her research on harrie twitter, not on orders from Jeff.

And because we DO NOT STAND FOR LILO ERASURE ON THIS BLOG, let’s talk about Liam’s Web Summit panel! It was 25 minutes of Liam and Marian Dicus (VP of Spotify) being interviewed about the current and future state of the music industry. Both of them, of course, noted that things had changed very quickly in their careers back at the beginning of lockdown, and how it had seemed surreal, at first, but that Liam had found that the way he was operating now (with Veeps and Tik Tok and Instagram lives) had made his platform a two way interaction with his fans. “For a long time I've been living in a dream world where I thought I was speaking with my fans but really I was just talking at them whereas we as artists ask a lot of rhetorical questions... I wanted to start a conversation”. Marian discussed how engaging fans differently WAS one of the most difficult things to puzzle out at the beginning, but that as months have passed, it seems artists like Liam have found a viable virtual future in the music industry (Liam tells us that he's been doing “stadium size shows” on Veeps which is an exciting clue about the mystery of how many tickets they're selling). They also went into the way music trends change as a response to social and political occurrences, how comfort songs gave way to protest songs this summer. Liam said, “People want their artists to have an opinion nowadays it's not that we can stay out of the conversation anymore-- and nor do we feel that we should in many places-- but for me it's a fine line because I realize what I do for people is an escape, people don't want things rammed down their throats every day and news messages from me about things that they don't want to hear about if they've come to listen to music, so its a real fine line that we kind of teeter on”. And about his opening acts, he acknowledges that his fanbase are mostly young women (based on the data breakdowns he gets from his team), and so he feels a responsibility to mentor young female artists in the industry so that more people like his fans have a voice. In an interview full of really fascinating music and technical discussions, this remained my favorite moment from Liam. Just like we won’t erase HIM, he refuses to erase US! And let's not forget our Liam alarm of the day-- it starts out absolutely adorable (“good moooorning!”), is hilarious in that apparently he just rambled completely unscripted and then they awkwardly cut it into 25 parts, but today's installment is frankly not relaxing! “only 23 sleeps til christmas have you done your shopping are you prepared” excuse me Liam YOU ARE STRESSING ME OUT. The promised relaxing sleep story affirmations are still 'coming soon'-- hurry up please I need them to decompress after that alarm!

Now for a lightning round of epic proportions: DWD darling pictures and vids keep comin’ and Harry and Florence are both looking GORGEOUS as Jack and Alice,  after the Variety shoot dropped ‘THE CAPTION’, ‘BRING BACK MANLY MEN’, and ‘LOUIS IS SUCCESSFUL’ trended worldwide on twitter, Tan France said “yes please” to Harry's banana post, Harry reiterated that London was home and he didn’t want to be in LA for longer than he needed to,Variety has its virtual show tomorrow at 5 pm PST so see you there! Veeps is sending out emails promoting Louis’ show to people who bought LP show tickets, fans have already started to receive their Louis Tomlinson Live From London merch, Trinity College in Dublin’s Law society presented Niall with an award for, uh, his Irishness, I guess? (Just kidding, it’s for “his incredible talent and work ethics which is famously underscored by a distinct humility despite unthinkable success”). It looks like he will be giving a talk when he’s presented with it, and I’m honestly really interested to see what it’s all about - is he...gonna be talking to law students? Idk but tune in on December 7th at 12 pm GMT to find out!

“What are these?” Jisung glances over his shoulder to you busy with your phone on the ground, catching your eye after a while when you’ve finished typing out a text message. When you look up, he then points at the pink and green boxes on your topmost shelf, arranged vertically like the books they are sandwiched between in but looking visibly thicker to be the same thing. “Can I take them out?” 

You nod, placing your phone back down on the coffee table in front of you as Jisung brings the boxes over and sits next to you. “They’re just old photo albums my parents sent in for one of my projects in senior year.” You point out, taking out the albums inside the cardboard box covers for him. “I haven’t look at them in forever, actually.” 

Next to you, you see Jisung’s eyes visibly light up at knowing what he’s about to see. “Like, pictures when you were a kid?” 

“Yeah?” You chuckle, poking at his flushed cheeks. “Why are you so excited? You’ve seen some of my pictures before.” 

“Not in print!” He corrects, flipping to the first page of the nearest photo album and gushing at the first photos he sees. “Aw, wow, look at you here!” 

Your amused expression immediately fades and eyes widen as you glance over at the photo album, a rather embarrassing Halloween photo of you when you were five smiling up innocently at you and making Jisung topple over in laughter. Instinctively, you cover the photos with your hands; clearly you haven’t looked through this album in a long time. “No, wait, nevermi—”

“Wait, no, let me see more!” Jisung protests in between laughs, prying your hands away from the glossy pages with a little difficulty and lifting up the album before you can even try covering the photos again. Holding it up next to his face and leaning away from you, he grins at you and waves the page around, “Seriously, look at you! You’re so cute here! How come you haven’t shown me these before?” 

 “Jisung!” You lean closer to him and reach up for the album, only for Jisung to lift it high above his head and away from your reach and making you stumble slightly to his lap. “I didn’t think you’d see that first of all things!” 

“Why? What’s so wrong about this picture?” He pouts in mock offense, steadying you by the waist and bringing the album back on the table as the two of you now sit properly. When you try covering the photo again, he flips to the next page to and holds your hand down on the table when you both see more of the same Halloween costume. “You’re like the cutest baby zombie ever!” 

“No, seriously, I looked weird here and,” You frown back, wiggling your hand out of his grip and flipping to the next page to more decent photos. “you have that look right now.” 

He quirks an eyebrow teasingly before flipping back to the previous page, already knowing what you’re implying. “What look?” 

In response, you snatch his phone from the table, making him chuckle. “You know what look! Don’t even try!” 

“I don’t know what you mean!” Jisung shrugs as he feigns a confused expression, glancing back at the pages. Giggling at your five-year-old self again, he adds, “I really like these photos, though. Did your mom do the make-up?”

You narrow your eyes at him, placing his phone in your hoodie pocket. He’ll have to pry his phone out of your cold dead hands before he can make copies of your baby pictures and post them online again. “Yes, she did.” 

Jisung glances up at you again before flipping to the next page, grinning mischievously. “Promise, I’m just going to look!” He assures you unconvincingly. “Anyway, with that kind of introduction to a photo album, I think we’ll find more amusing pictures in the next page!”

Like, REACH sounds like they're not brave enough to do something they believe would make the world a better place at a small personal cost, so why would I care about mitigating circumstances if I already know that that's the algorithm they're running. (edit: this is what "is REACH basically CFAR's pet" pointing to, eg if they are pwned by the same things. rather than pointing to whether the two orgs are ostensibly related).

Similarly, discussion of REACH beyond what was needed for me to figure this out (about six lines of text) is not at all useful to me. But pointing this fact out to silence Somni suggests some sort of preference to defend REACH. So, if that's the algorithm you're running, then I see you as (probably) sorting people/discussion topics based on what you can socially get away with. Sort of like, the word "appropriate" is in the same class as "uppity" "disrespectful" "honorable" etc, and this applies to asking if it's "appropriate to discuss REACH despite Jay's preferences".

I personally do not participate in long conversations about who is "in the right", because I personally find it very easy to figure out what people are trying to do, and find that continuing on chats longer than that is a waste of my time. But, this is also Somni's space as a victim of Robert, so it's okay if she wants to discuss REACH I guess. I've never talked with her, but she (they?) seems to have good takes with respect to when someone is de facto hurting others or running bad algorithms in a way related to that.

“well I just got out of high school in America a few years ago and that is where you hear most of the slang words in English not found online. I may not be completely fluent in Korean but I have been watching MANY Korean dramas and studying with online resources as much as possible. I also have experience using formal language on numerous occasions such as school interviews and other times, thus I’ll be qualified to teach them should they ever need to speak formally anywhere” I responded trying to maintain eye contact with the three people sitting on the end of the conference room looking table.

The man on the left looked pleased with my speech yet the woman on the right didn’t seem to enjoy my spiel and the man in the middle seemed neutral. “Thank you” the man in the middle said “you bring up many appealing points, we’ll get back to you by tomorrow afternoon if to inform you of if you got the job or not.” He continued. “Yes sir” I said as I bowed and went up to shake their hands. I keep going over the interview in my head and picking out my mistakes, I twiddled my thumbs in my lap, I struggled to maintain eye contact and my hair!!! Ugh!! I woke up later than I wanted to this morning and my hair suffered cause of this, but hopefully it at least looked decent enough. As I went over how I should have improved my hair routines I stepped into the elevator without paying attention and tripped on the crack between the floor and the elevator as I did I feel forward into someone.

“I’m so sorry!” I exclaimed “I knew wearing heels was a bad idea, I should have worn flats” I thought allowed.

“Hey don’t worry about it, are you ok?” The voice of the person who’s arms I was currently in said.

“oh sorry” I said realizing that I was still in this position I scrambled to my feet and winced in pain.

“what’s wrong did you hurt your foot?” The voice asked “ I finally looked up to see jin from bts smiling.

“oh, I just applied to be the new “integrater to America” for txt, I will be helping bts as well but mostly with language being you all have been there on tour, many txt members have lived(Kai) there when they were younger or visited but things change so I’m helping them before they go on tour” I explained.

“oh, that explains your American accent and broken Korean 😂” (😑) he said with a laugh again “but that’s really cool, I wish that we had someone like you for us before we went on tour”.

“yeah I’m happy to help and I really need to work on my Korean, I’ve been practicing and watching as many Korean dramas as I can but I can still only have simple conversations and have difficulty remembering some words thus making it hard to ramble when that is my trade mark habitat when I’m nervous” I proclaimed.

“well don’t be nervous, and if you ever need anyone to watch those dramas with feel free to ask me, we’re here by the way” jin said once we stoped in front of a white door with the sign on the side that says bts practice room.

His comment made me blush but I quickly brushed it off. I mean he was probably just joking but I didn’t even notice us get here because I was so focused on the conversation. I enjoyed our conversation, I hope that I get this job so that jin and I can become friends, I thought to myself.

He opened the door for me. Once inside I saw bts panting with sweat dripping down the sides of their heads.

So, I've finished my V's route and I only got normal ending eventho I've got 15 guests (IDK that's one of bug or something because I think if we invite and completed more than 10 guests should've got happy ending or this V's route diff with other member's route, Idk...will try again).
