every time one of these comes my way on twitter i am incapable of resisting. nobody ever has all my facial piercings, which is an egregious oversight imo but whaddaya gonna do?

top left: arigate witch — grumpy yet colour coordinated.

top middle: girl maker — sort of channeling my high school self, plus flowers

top right: misery chick creator — me as a daria character.

centre left: hedgefruit oc maker — in which i belong in a charlie brown comic.

centre middle: i cannot find the link, apologies! — my actual resting bitch face.

center right: cool character maker — dishevelled lump? check. i'm pretending the shadow beneath the mouth is my labret stud, so one out of three bits of metal in my face represent.

bottom left: djarn's character maker - would definitely wear those earrings; would definitely hold that knife.

bottom middle: aloha sushicore icon maker - i am a fucking rainbow of delight but also completely done and taking no shit; lightly edited to get rid of the glasses frames originally laying on top of the hair.

bottom right: RPG - idek. i have a thing about horns don't ask.

looking at them all together, i noticed some things. i always choose a neutral/non-smiling mouth, although that wasn't really a surprise because that's just what my mouth does. and for some reason i feel compelled to create an image that is at least reasonably representational of reality, albeit idealised. i feel compelled to look like me. but what really struck me is how i almost excusively gravitate towards clothing options that cover me as much as possible. (for #7 there were scarf options and it actually took great willpower to deliberately not choose one.) even in a stylised depiction of myself i'm uncomfortable (as in literally feeling an itchy/uneasy sort of squirming sensation) not having the reassurance of being shielded by layers and the weight of something enveloping me.

so, a repetitive need to represent the self in a semi-realistic way. is it an inability to see myself otherwise or is it a deliberate act? and why? self-sabotage? a perverse sort of vanity? or a kind of contemptuous pride and celebration of... not ugliness, but ? i never make myself look "pretty" beyond the parameters of the existing art, but i also never deliberately make myself look less appealling. so it's reassurance in a way. needing to see myself as at least reasonably aesthetically pleasing but no more. because i'm compelled to be truthful or because i don't think i deserve it? valid but not too valid. and there's some pride in that because of course there is.
