I think it's unwise to assume that if you don't understand something that nobody else does anon.

My point was reasonably simple - in our society who gets credited with ownership and who gets to control a work of art that is made by many people depends on who has the most money and power. I think that's wrong.

FAS3001 Exploring Trend Themes

I wanted to explore some of the key imagery that I have utilised throughout this module, particularly looking more in depth at why I have chosen them to communicate my narrative. As a trend, the New Classics I have interpreted look at very organic materials, and thicker, more refined fabrics to develop a classical look. In particular, a key theme of this trend is the suit, however both the colours and these more organic fabrics give hints to the Ivy style of the 20th century. Hence, I have looked a lot at more high end suits, and also elements like waistcoats and ties, like the images pictured above. The first picture (Ralph Lauren, 2021) in particular feels like a pivotal image for my narrative page, particularly as it is modern, yet has these hints to the past that I have been searching for. It also connected well with a primary scan of fabric that i had used for a cut out on the fabrics and silhouettes page (image 3) I also looked to add more primary research to my look book, and so added these refined, organic fabrics, like the green and brown chunky knit organic wool scarf above (image 4). 

A key influencer of the trend I also explored was Dadaism; Dadaism as a movement communicated the notions of being different, yet still uniform in a respectable way. Its art was becoming increasingly synonymous with the preppy Ivy style, thus making it more influential on the aesthetics of my look book than I had might have originally anticipated. I have decided to dedicate most of my mood imagery to the dadaist movement, and hope that this will help frame the models and silhouettes nicely. The main dadaist images I have used are pictured above, and I intend to use all of them at least once in my look book.
