"This work came through after spending time with this family of banana trees on the property I grew up on. I love the drop of the flowers, the spine like stem fascinated me deeply. Using it as inspiration I made hats which connected the foot to the head with intention to create a cyclical way of existing.

Through an embodied workshop with a group of 6 wonderful women we created a piece of choreography collectively. In attempts to understand how a family of trees co- exist we workshopped a number of observational practices. We spent time drawing the land, chatting on the land, dancing on the land, singing on the land, listening to the land, giving back to the land, sitting on the land, creating on the land. Once we tuned in we started to explore what intuitive embodied gestures came through in our bodies. Was it a blossoming flower, a sprouting limb, a bobbing leaf… in moments we tune into each others gestures just like this family of banana trees will send attention / nutrition to another if needed".

My relationship with wind had been ignorant until my recent curiosity. Its nomadic ways are fascinating, never still, its home being the world. I started to learn about the powerful and invisible force and what its many roles are on Earth. In ancient traditions there are stories that the wind carries the prayers. It’s role in this world is multiplicitous, not only does it carry sound and seed- it shows us direction. This sculpture acts as a body for the wind to inhabit- a shell for the wind to find home in, like it finds home in our ears. The sculpture is attached to strings in which I hold - a design that is directly inspired by sailing and fishing technology. An intimate language between myself and the object forms through movement -you have to listen to it for it will listen to you. The wind sculpture though is a tool and enables me, a human being, to have a brief conversation with the wider world- it also became an extension of me during my days living alone on an island. I like to think that I was conversing with an energy that has traveled long distances in hopes to find connection. This kite, wind sculpture, sky dweller, became a ‘friend’ of mine. I would take it out flying, after a lot of making and sometimes mending...
