Not sure if it's my english minor trying to fill the void left by no longer being a student or if I just watch too many video essays but for some reason I'm focusing heavily on writers craft during this Artemis Fowl reread to the point that my dad (the only person I know who also read all 8 books and thus the best person to rant at about how much better the last half of the series could have been) accused me of "sound[ing] like a college professor" the other day

Was that not the point? That while the People are a century or two ahead technology-wise, they are a century or two behind with their equal and civil rights?

OH that's a good point, that could totally be the idea and I just fully missed it.

But even if that was his point I kind of don’t buy it. It's strange because about some things they really are so progressive but also like... it feels odd (as a more grown person) that their society mirrors humanity's so much when they've been separate so long.

I think it's because humanity is mirrored off fairy cultures cause they're more advanced, but I'm not sure I buy that they would evolve in the same directions when fairies hate humans so much? Why would their police forces evolve in the same ways? Why am I over analyzing this element of worldbuilding in a middle grades novel?

i’m actually really nervous about twow bc i feel like every series i made my whole personality from the ages of 10-17 ended really badly EXCEPT probably farscape and ummmm well…the disney series’ aksksj hsm3 and descendants 3 written by children’s media icon and genuinely amazing director, screenwriter, & choreographer kenny ortega both had really solid endings that fit the characters & themes & also there wasn’t a noticeable decrease in quality of writing. is it unserious to compare grrm to cassie clare, rick riordan, megan whalen turner, or the hacks who wrote once upon a time? absolutely. am i gonna stress regardless? also yes.
