hp ladies appreciation week: day 02
event by @endlessly-cursed
favourite female mcs by others
artemis hexley by @the-al-chemist
artemis is such a well-crafted, complex character. i love her spirit, her compassion and kindness, but also her hot temper and tendency to get in (or cause) trouble!
odessa avery by @cursed-herbalist
she’s determined, rebellious, strong, and caring. she’s a force of nature and i love her very much. she’s also a part of my new favourite hp era... (i’ve only had ode for a little while but if anything happened to her i would kill everyone in this room and then myself)
dafne arcano by @kathrynalicemc
dafne has so much interesting lore and backstory around her but she’s where it all started! she’s an incredibly cool character.
evelyn brokenshire/hughes by @cursebreakerfarrier
how could i not mention one of my favourite brokenshires? i just love evelyn’s intelligence and drive to make a change in the world! she’s also cute as heck...
primrose gray by @endlessly-cursed
a staple of my favourite female characters list, prim is a juggernaut of a character with a lot lore and personality!
talia crane by @whatwouldvalerydo
when i was making this list, @potionboy3 reminded me of talia, and i had to include her. she’s multilayered, complex, and badass!
viveka raeburn by @potionboy3
gabriel would be nothing without his bff and better half. i love viveka’s storyline, she does terrible things but i can’t help but sympathize. my girl needs a break.
georgie parsons by @unfortunate-arrow
it’s definitely the oldest sister syndrome for me... i love georgie, she’s so caring and selfless but also headstrong and outspoken! not to mention the corgi!

Trick or treatttttt? 😈
Thanks for the ask, Al!
I think I'll go for a headcanon of the wonderful cousin duo of Matthew and Al!
Matthew's Animagus form changes during his time at hogwarts as his mental health improves, going from a sparrow (symbolising his desire to hide and flee) to a cat (symbolising his newfound desire to be around others). As a result, the two might come across each other in their cat forms, leading to both thinking that the other is a surprisingly intelligent cat, and it would take an embarrassingly long time for the both of them to figure out that the one cat they see sometimes at night is in fact their cousin!

Firebug
I could write a whole essay about how and why I love you, @the-al-chemist, but honestly, I don't think I have to.
I think you know. No, actually, I know you know. You're the bestest. Happy Birthday 💛💛💛
Tumblr media
A/N: Katriona Cassiopeia is the brainchild of the lovely @kc-and-co. Artemis Hexley belongs to @the-al-chemist, ofc. Warning: Language, dark noir world-weariness.
It’s a day like any other, really.
To be honest, most of them are. Same drag, same routine, day in, day out in this fucked up little world, where a new cigarette brand at the store is the biggest outrage and excitement people have seen in weeks.
My morning starts like most days do - wake up from the shouting in the streets; squint at the dirty midday light filtering through even dirtier windows; roll out of bed and find some breakfast consisting of cold coffee and a cigarette, both of which taste suspiciously like ash.
I spend my time running errands, helping my brother Bill with those business transactions of his that require a little more subtlety. From the change I find in his debtors’ pockets, I treat myself to lunch at Molly’s - lukewarm eggs, rubbery bacon and beans that are worse than my morning coffee. A bloody culinary dream.
I’m still thinking about Mama Molly’s scrambled eggs as the doors of the custody cell fall shut behind me. Office Corey Hayden, the portly policeman who has locked me up, says nothing, just scratches his fat belly with the doughnut crumbs on it and shakes his head at me.
“This is the fourth time this week, Weasley.”
“And it’s already Saturday. Disappointing, I know.”
As I said - a day like any other, really.
Officer Doughnut rolls his eyes and turns away. He has a football match playing on his small television in the corner. I bury my hands in my pockets, grunting as I chafe my knuckles on the scratchy fabric. The wounds still sting, but the bastard on the receiving end has had it coming. Thinking about him makes the rage in me flare up again. One scumbag down, a million more to go.
Like a giant fucking hydra.
Rubbing my fingers with the fresh blood against each other, I place one bloody thumbprint against the wall, right next to the one from two days prior. My own personal scoring record. I was here. I will come back.
Officer Hayden grunts. “‘Tis ain’t no fucking gallery, Weasley. Stop it.”
“And if not?”
The police officer grunts again and focuses on the match, turning the television so I can see what’s going on.
“Is it too much to watch some goddamn rugby, at least?” I hear a voice behind me, followed by two sharp clicking sounds. I turn.
Behind me sits a woman; a girl, even, it’s hard to tell. She looks small in her oversized coat, and her mane of unkempt hair. She’s scrawny, almost haggardly so. Mama Molly wouldn’t be able to resist stuffing her with food until she’d throw up from either amount, or taste, or both. The source of the clicking sound, I realise, is a silver lighter she holds in her hand. She flicks it open and closes it again, her eyes trained on the TV screen. I cock my brow at her.
“Not exactly the Ritz, ain’t it?”
“Dunno. Never been there.”
She stares at me, a challenge if I’ve ever seen one. Her eyes are strange, hazel, with a green ring around the middle. They remind me of a cat. How curious.
“And who would you be?” I ask, leaning against the bars of our shared confinement. “Never seen you around before.”
Her cat-eyes narrow. “Are you hitting on me?”
“Just trying to start a conversation.”
She snorts. “Don’t bother.”
“I’d listen to her, Weasley,” Officer Corey chimes in, putting his feet on top of a pile of paperwork that will never see completion. “Tried to bite me earlier.”
I turn my attention back to her. “Feisty, are you?”
She only glares.
“Whatever,” I shrug into her sullen silence. “I’m Charlie, by the way.”
More silence. I shrug again and concentrate on the match. Exeter City have just swindled themselves to a penalty. Suddenly, the cat-eye-woman speaks up.
“I’m Fire.”
“Feisty and confident.”
“No,” she says angrily, “that’s what they call me at work.”
“You have work?”
“Why are you so surprised?”
“You’re here, aren’t you?”
“So are you.”
The corners of my mouth twitch. “Maybe this is my job.”
A snort can be heard from Officer Corey’s corner. The woman gives me a hard look from her strange eyes.
“Are you taking the piss?”
“Anything to lighten the mood.”
I flash her a grin but receive only a frown in return.
“Forget it, Weasley,” Corey calls again, followed by a groan as Exeter’s striker kicks the ball straight past the goal. “She’s like a feral cat, that one.”
“Have yet to meet a cat who doesn’t like me.”
Silence again. Exeter have taken the failed penalty badly and - much to Officer Corey’s chagrin - are falling apart quickly. From time to time, I glance at the woman with the cat-eyes. She’s stopped playing with her lighter and is staring at the wall as if, by the sheer force of her bad mood alone, she could blow a hole in it. I sigh.
“You really are one fun cellmate, aren’t you?”
I almost think she has stopped responding to me altogether when she raises her chin and asks,
“Why are you here?”
“Animals,” I tell her, seeing her shoulders relax, even if only slightly. “I get them from illegal breeders who treat them like shit. Giving them a taste of their own medicine. That’s why I’m here.”
I’m not sure she believes me. Her face gives away nothing.
“That’s what you meant about the cats earlier?”
“I did.”
“And that’s all?”
“That’s all. What about you? Who did you piss off?”
“No one,” she responds stubbornly. “A misunderstanding.”
“Misunderstanding my arse,” Officer Corey huffs. “Picked her up by the harbour earlier.”
I frown. “Where the big fire was?”
“Right bloody next to it. And good thing we did. She’s with that Cassiopeia lady, or so I’ve heard. No good ever comes of that lot.”
Corey’s words pique my interest. I know KC and her girls. Despite what Officer Corey thinks, they’re good girls, all of them. The business they’re dealing in is beyond me, but everyone with half a brain cell left knows to leave them alone. They look like angels, but their kiss brings death.
I look at my cellmate.
Or fire.
I nod at the lighter she has taken out again. “That why they call you Fire?”
She tenses, and the lighter disappears in her pocket in an instant. “No.”
“Why then?”
“None of your business.”
“Well, I’ve got time.”
“Tough luck. I don’t.”
With that, she rises to her feet and walks past me to the door of our cell. Beyond the bars, a woman has appeared in the doorway to the police station, surrounded by a cloud of glamour and expensive perfume. Katriona ‘KC’ Cassiopeia takes a long look at the woman calling herself Fire, a resigned sigh leaving her blood-red lips. She pulls a slender purse from her handbag and places a big bundle of banknotes on Officer Corey’s desk. Thumbing through them with greasy fingers, he finishes his doughnut and gets up to unlock the cell.
“Off you go, Miss.”
KC’s eyes only graze me, but she gives me a nod of recognition anyway. I return it. Down in the drags, we’re all in the same boat, after all, one way or another.
“This is not what we agreed on, Artemis,” I hear KC hiss at her protégée, who stubbornly looks ahead. I swear I can see her non-existent fur bristling. “You’re a proper fire hazard at this point, you know that?”
“Way too small for a hazard,” I can’t help but comment. “More of a firebug, if you ask me.”
“Shame no one’s asking you, Weasley.” KC gives me a look. “Staying longer this time ‘round?”
“Only until my deposit arrives, I’m afraid.”
“Figures. I don’t have that much luck.”
The two women leave, quietly talking among themselves. I watch as they step outside into the drizzling rain, KC beneath a luxurious umbrella, her fiery friend hidden by the hood of her coat. As they vanish into the night, I see the quick flicker of a flame before that, too, disappears into the night.
I smirk to myself as I settle into my favourite corner of the cell. A new player, then.
Welcome to the game, little Firebug.
You’re in for a hell of a ride.

The Vaulties Day 3
Today @hphmmatthewluther I’m going to tell you about the songs from this playlist:
This playlist is for the stories about my last two years at Hogwarts which were mainly just a bad time but there was some good stuff that happened, too.
The Circle of Khanna
Edge of Seventeen - this was the year me and most of my friends turned seventeen, which is a really important age, because that’s when you’re officially an adult.
River - This is a Christmas song, but it’s not happy like most Christmas songs. It’s really sad. I did not have a very happy Christmas that year.
Nothing Compares 2 U - this song came out about a month and a half after Rowan died and it’s about missing someone and no one else comparing to them.
Rio - Rio is the capital city of Brazil where Alanza comes from. The song is not about the capital city but about a girl who is a bit odd and very loud, which makes sense for Alanza. It’s the least sad song on this playlist.
Hounds of Love - this is a song about being scared and being brave and also about dogs and love. It has a lot of lines about being in a lake, where the final Vault was, and something coming through the trees like Chiara came after me when she was a werewolf.
You’ll Never Walk Alone - the message of this song is to keep going even when things get hard and as long as you have people to love and love you, then you’ll not really be alone, even if those people die, which is a nice way to look at things.
The Return to the Riddles
Every Breath You Take - this song is about a stalker watching someone without them knowing. I didn’t know that R was still watching me when I started my seventh year, but they were. It’s a bit creepy actually.
Cloudbusting - this song is about remembering people you love when things are hard, and also about rain, and here was a lot of rain in my last year.
You’ve Got the Love - Love is a really powerful thing, so powerful that Dumbledore said that it was the greatest power of all, even though you can’t use it for duelling.
Heroes - me and my friends broke all the curses, so we are pretty much heroes.
Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen) - this is a song with lots of advice about how to be a good person and have a good life. I have never been very good at taking advice, but I guess if I was then this might be the best advice to take, maybe.

Another Day
A/N: July’s prompt for @hp-12monthsofmagic is “Surprise…”, and this story contains a fairly big one. I’ll let Charlie tell you about it… Warnings: two minor swear word, one of which barely counts as a swear. Tagging: @fantasywriter19 and @toads-in-my-pockets, who I think may particularly enjoy this little story.
Tumblr media
The sun was high in the sky, making the autumn leaves on the ground glow in shades of gold as Charlie arrived in the front garden of the Burrow. From inside the house, the sounds of laughter and clattering pots and pans could be heard as he crunched his way across the yard to the front porch, still dizzy from his Portkey.
He knocked on the front door and was greeted by his mother, who immediately smothered him in an almost rib-breakingly tight hug.
“Bloody hell, Mum. It’s like you’ve not seen me in six months, not six weeks!”
“Well, six weeks is a long time when I had gotten used to you being around all the time,” Mrs Weasley replied. “It’s just lovely to have you home, dear.”
Charlie’s mother let him go, looking almost expectantly behind him before sighing deeply.
“What’s the matter?” Charlie asked her.
“Oh, nothing. Nothing at all. I thought that maybe… Oh, never mind. Come on inside, dear.”
Shaking his head despairingly, Charlie followed his mother inside the house. It didn’t look quite the same as it had when he was growing up, but it still felt like home, a fact he was grateful for, given the state the house had been in at the end of the war. The Death Eaters had completely ransacked the house and destroyed parts of it; it had taken Charlie and his brother Percy the best part of a year to fully restore it to its former unglorified glory.
In the living room was Percy himself, along with Charlie’s other two eldest brothers and their father. Charlie hugged each of them in turn, finishing with his older brother, Bill.
“Where’s Fleur?” Charlie asked him, looking around himself as if his sister-in-law might suddenly appear out of nowhere - which, in fairness, she could.
“She went for some air,” replied Bill, smiling broadly. “She’s out in the back garden watching Harry and Ginny teach Teddy to ride a broom.”
“Right. And the others?”
“Ron and Hermione should be here any minute now, and knowing Artemis, she will be here ten minutes late.”
“Of course. Why break the habit of a lifetime?” Charlie said, raising his eyebrows knowingly. “I’ll go and show my face outside.”
In the back garden, Fleur Weasley was sitting on a deck chair with a glass of water, watching Charlie’s sister Ginny and her boyfriend holding a blue-haired toddler upright on a broomstick. At the sight of her brother, Ginny left Harry and Teddy to their flying lesson and ran across the grass towards him.
“Did you come here alone?” she demanded, without even saying hello first.
“It’s nice to see you too, Gin.”
“Yeah, whatever. Answer the question.”
“Uh, yes. Why?”
“Oh, mum was getting all excited. She got it into her head that you were bringing a girl home as a surprise.”
Charlie blinked. “Why would she think that?”
“Because Mum just loves marrying people off, doesn’t she?” Ginny laughed. “And because you only ever usually come home when it’s a special occasion.”
Ginny had a point, Charlie had to admit that. When he had first left home at eighteen, he struggled to afford Portkeys, and always found himself feeling more homesick returning to Romania after visiting his family. Going home infrequently had become somewhat of a habit, but after the war ended and he moved back to Romania following a year’s sabbatical, his priorities had changed. He had visited more often in the last five months, but it just so happened that his visits had coincided with big events: Ginny’s graduation, George’s shop re-opening, Ron’s engagement. This was the first time he had come home without there being some sort of occasion, the first time that it was just another day in the life of the Weasley family.
“Anyway,” Ginny continued, apparently not noticing the somewhat guilty conscience of her brother, “Mum started putting twos together, you know what she’s like.”
“She does like putting twos together.”
“So, you definitely haven’t brought a girl home, then?”
Charlie looked one way and then the other, before holding his hands aloft and shrugging his shoulders.
“Mum will be disappointed,” Ginny laughed, and Fleur smirked into her glass of water.
“I expect zat she will cope,” she said wryly.
From inside the house, Molly called that dinner was ready, and the whole family made their way towards the kitchen. Charlie ducked under a platter of roast potatoes making its own way to the table in order to greet the latecomers: his youngest brother Ron and his fiancée, and Charlie’s best friend from school, Artemis Hexley.
“Trust you to arrive just in time for food,” he muttered to her as he pulled her into a hug. “Though you could’ve at least brushed your hair.”
“Oh, piss off,” Artemis prodded Charlie in the ribs and wriggled out from his arms. “How was your journey here, anyway?”
“Not too bad.”
“The grannies of Ottery St Catchpole all survived you apparating, then?”
“You know, that joke stopped being funny about eight years ago.”
“To you, maybe.”
Artemis grinned wickedly and made her way to the table, Charlie following behind her. As the plates of food were passed around and the kitchen was filled with the sound of lively conversation, he realised how much he had missed moments like this. This was exactly what he had wanted for his visit home.
When the chatter at the dinner table reached a natural lull, Charlie cleared his throat quietly. Before he could say anything to fill the gap, however, Bill rose to his feet.
“I didn’t realise there were going to be speeches,” said George, through a mouthful of food.
“I’ll be quick, I promise,” Bill laughed sheepishly. “It’s just that while everyone is here, I - well, Fleur and I - wanted to tell you all something.” He placed a hand on his wife’s shoulder and smiled at her so widely he looked as if he might burst from happiness, before telling the rest of the family: “We are going to have a baby.”
Suddenly, the kitchen was filled with even more noise and movement than before. Molly and Arthur Weasley rose from their seats to embrace their oldest son and daughter-in-law, Molly making high-pitched noises and crying. Percy congratulated them heartily, and Artemis dropped her fork on the floor in surprise.
Charlie bent down to pick it up and handed it back to her, their eyes meeting as the fork exchanged hands. She pursed her lips and raised her eyebrows, and he gave her an almost imperceptible shrug in response.
Just like that, the day now belonged to Bill, Fleur, and their unborn child. The talk at the dinner table had turned to babies, to names and dates and sleeping arrangements. Even after dinner ended, the discussion continued, with Charlie’s mother rushing to find the family albums to find photos of her own seven babies for everyone to look at, an ordeal Charlie managed to escape by offering to clean up after dinner.
“Can I just grab a glass for Fleur?” Bill asked him, once everyone else had retired to the sitting room.
“Of course you can,” Charlie ducked out of the way of a cupboard to allow Bill to summon a glass from it. He chuckled to himself and shook his head. “I can’t believe you’re going to be a dad.”
“Neither can I.”
“You must be so happy.”
“I am,” said Bill, still smiling. “Terrified, but happy.”
“It’ll be alright. You’ll be a great dad.”
“Thanks, Charlie.”
“I mean it,” Charlie held his hand out to Bill. “Congratulations, mate.”
The two brothers shook hands before wrapping their free arms around each other’s shoulders.
“I’m just glad you decided to come back this weekend,” Bill said. “We didn’t want some people finding out before others, and you know how hard it is to get everyone in one place when it’s not for something specific.”
“Hm, yeah.” Charlie nodded, aware that Artemis had just entered the room and pulled a face that made it hard for him not to laugh. “Tough, that.”
“I mean it, thank you. Anyway, better give this to Fleur. Sorry, Artemis, didn’t realise you were behind me.”
“Don’t worry, I’m fine.” Artemis paused before briefly hugging Bill around the waist. “Congratulations, by the way.”
She watched Bill carry Fleur’s glass out of the room, before leaning back against the kitchen table and watching the dishes wash and dry themselves at the sink.
“You didn’t fancy looking at the photos of baby Bill in the bath, then?” asked Charlie.
“Not really. I lived with him for half of last year, if I wanted to see his knob I’d have had plenty of opportunities to do so.”
Charlie laughed and used his wand to direct the clean plates into the cupboard before joining Artemis on the edge of the table.
“So much for it just being another boring, regular day at the Burrow,” she muttered quietly, rolling her eyes.
“I never said it would be boring,” replied Charlie, his voice also lowered. He sighed. “That’s the thing about big families. There’s always something going on with someone. Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.”
“Honest?”
Artemis turned her face towards Charlie, holding his gaze.
“Yeah,” she said, completely honestly. “If anything, it’s kind of funny. You had this brilliant plan set out for weeks, and Bill swoops in at the last minute with the exact same idea.”
“Well, they say great minds think alike,” Charlie grinned. “You think that’s funny, you should hear what Mum and Ginny said.”
“What was that?”
“They thought I might be bringing home a girlfriend this weekend.”
“Did they really?” Artemis smirked. “That’s brilliant. What did you say?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing at all?”
“No, I just went like this,” Charlie held his hands up slightly and shrugged his shoulders. Artemis blinked at him. “What? It works every time.”
Artemis burst out laughing, using one hand to stifle the sound of her giggles as Charlie shushed her through his own.
“We can’t now, can we?” she whispered, once the two of them had composed themselves.
“Not really, no.”
“That would be unfair.”
“It would,” said Charlie. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. It’s just good to have you back.”
“It’s good to be back. I missed you.”
“You too.”
Charlie cast a glance over his shoulder at the door before wrapping his arm around Artemis.
“So, now what?” she asked, reaching across him to take his free hand, her fingers walking over his like the rungs of a ladder.
“We let them have their day today, and then we will just have to make a new plan so we can have our turn another day.”
“And that’s when we’ll tell them about” - Artemis’ eyes flicked from Charlie’s right hand in her lap to his left on her shoulder - “us?”
With another look back at the door, Charlie pulled her closer to him, kissed her hairline, and rested his chin on the top of her head.
“Yeah. That’s when we’ll tell them about us.”

The Phoenix Resistance- Book 2 Chapter 28 FINALE!
A/N: Well... here we are on the last page. Nine months all lead up to this. This is the ending for now but make sure to stick around for the character epilogues in the next few weeks for more endings!! As always: Mina belongs to @lifeofkaze and also Ava in mention. Artemis in mention belongs to @the-al-chemist and both Henry and Ellie belong to @thatravenpuffwitch. Enjoy!
Ministry of Magic, Atrium, London - May 2nd, 1998, 6:13 AM
A few hours went by as they waited. The atrium was completely silent for all of them but Devon. As much as she tried to push out the thoughts of her friends, they kept sneaking in. Each one of them were scared, some more than others.
Many of them paced back and forth, occasionally glancing down the dark rows of fireplaces when they thought they heard something, forms stiffening and the grip on their wands tightening only to relax when nothing came out of the darkness. Devon stood directly behind the barricade, never taking her eyes off the entrances. Her legs were stiff after hours of standing and the pain in her ribs was steadily getting worse but she refused to sit down, even after multiple suggestions from Henry. Dried blood that wasn’t hers caked her pants and hands.
It was just after sunrise that finally they saw exactly what they were dreading. A green light flickered and flashed deep within the darkness and they heard the roar of flames as a figure emerged from the floo network.
Mina and Eloise stood up from their places by the statue and they all approached the barricade as a group with their wands pointed forwards.
“Hey, stop right there!” Kaari called out loudly to the figure that got closer and closer.
The tension in the room relaxed as out from the shadows stepped a man with dark skin and rich purple robes. It was Kingsley Shacklebolt. Everyone’s wands dropped to their sides, except Devon who remained in place, her wand shaking slightly.
“If it’s really you, tell me your favorite type of bread,” Devon sent into Kingsley’s mind silently.
“Cinnamon raisin, of course,” she heard him reply back into her own mind.
“So, did we win?” Kaari inquired.
“Yes. Harry Potter has defeated Voldemort once and for all,” Kingsley’s deep voice filled the empty silence.
What followed was shouts of joy and exclamations of relief. Devon stood staring forward in shock before her knees finally gave out and she collapsed to the floor. All the adrenaline in her system crashed and the weight of the entire war came crumbing down upon her shoulders, like Atlas holding up the sky. Everyone was safe. Nobody else was going to die under her command.
“Dev! Oh Merlin, are you ok?” Henry immediately rushed to her side and scooped her up.
“Yea, I’m fine. I just need to rest for a second,” she signed.
Kingsley had climbed over the barricade and now crouched down next to them, his hand outstretched towards Devon who shook it gladly.
“Thanks for holding down the fort, Marlowe. I’ll take it from here,” he smiled gently.
“There’s one more thing I need to do, if you would allow me? In fact, I could really use your help, Kingsley,” Devon signed and pushed herself to her feet, Henry supporting her from one side.
...
With Kingsley’s help, the Phoenix Resistance wrote and printed one last newspaper together. This one, however, had no enchantments placed upon it to obscure the words.
Witches and wizards all around England watched as papers appeared with a flash from their floo networks and fell gently from the sky, a dark winged shadow accompanying it. The gold fiery Phoenix symbol blazed at the top of the paper, now visible to all.
Headlined right at the top with large letters said “Harry Potter Defeats The Dark Lord!”
The paper also went into great detail debunking the false muggleborn propaganda that was spread during the war. It included some damning evidence against many Death Eaters, calling them out by name. The puppet government was also revealed to the public. Pius Thicknesse had been under the imperius curse and Voldemort was the true leader during the war.
With that, the Phoenix flew one last time. However, this time it didn’t fly under the cover of night and it wasn’t exchanged by the hushed whispers of people in taverns. It also wouldn’t erupt into fire and burn away. This time it was persistent and loud.
At the bottom of the paper, where usually there was a blank space, now was filled with words.
“By Devon Marlowe”
The author of the Phoenix Paper was finally revealed.
As for what was to follow in the next few months after, Devon Marlowe would work under Kingsley as one of the head lawyers for the Death Eater Trials. The information she presented from the notebook she kept during the war was instrumental in the arrests and trials that followed.
The Leaky Cauldron, Diagon Alley, London - May 6th, 1998, 5:04 PM
The next few days passed in a blur for most of them. Kaari was more drunk than he was sober as he had a celebratory drink with anyone he came across. Devon on the other hand had buried herself in her work.
Tonight, however, Henry had managed to tear her away for a moment. The two of them held hands as they entered the Leaky Cauldron. Heads turned and hushed voices whispered as they made their way to a small table in the corner that already had many figures crowded around it.
“Hey, is that her? The former leader of the Phoenix Resistance?”
“No way.”
“Look at her scars. Of course it’s her.”
“Then those people at the table.. are they-“
“There she is! The woman of the hour!” Kaari loudly exclaimed, raising his tankard high in the air. Clearly he had started drinking early.
“C’mon, grab a seat!”
“What seat? You guys couldn’t find a larger table?” Henry laughed, pulling up a few more chairs from a nearby empty table.
It looked like they were the last ones to arrive. Along with Kaari Arcano, the table was surrounded by Mina Pendleton, Ellie Hopper, and even Eloise Yaxley. It was a shame that Ava Campbell and Artemis Hexley weren’t here, but Devon knew they were here in spirit.
Once everyone got settled, Kaari ordered a round for everyone. They spent the next little while in idle conversation. Each of them took turns talking about their day and what they had gotten up to in the last few days. Devon found herself laughing often, something she rarely did the last ten months. They were finally free from the darkness.
A bittersweet sadness sat in Devon’s chest as she couldn’t help but compare this to one of the first drinks she had in the Lone Star. Back then, it was just her, Henry, and Kaari. Their family had certainly grown since then. However, they had also lost family.
Immediately after they had sent out the last Phoenix Paper, the five of them left after their coup on the Ministry to deal with their fallen friends.
Mirai Wilson was cremated, matching their other fallen companion who was already ash. It was easy enough for Kaari to sneak into the back garden of the Wilson Manor, as he had done it once before. There, he watched as her ashes were picked up by the spring breeze and scattered through the grass and flowers. As long as Lenwin and Kiri stayed there, they would be close to her. Even if they didn’t know it. Lenwin would discover a piece of parchment jammed into the kitchen window, telling him of her passing in the line of duty. Her life was given so that many others would live.
Eleanor and Eme’s ashes were somewhat mixed and intertwined as they laid upon the Ministry floor. The Resistance combined them and after some discussion, they decided to take a trip to Pendle Hill together. Four hundred and two years after they were born, the twins finally returned home to rest.
The Resistance stood side by side and watched as the ashes blew up into the slowly darkening sky as the sun set over Pendle Hill. After a while, they all said their goodbyes and parted ways. Not forever, of course. They would always be friends.
It was now only a few short days later and they had reunited once again to have one last drink for the ones that they had lost. It was then that Devon stood up.
“To Mirai and Eleanor,” she signed before hoisting her tankard up high.
“To the Resistance,” Kaari added after translating for Devon.
The others stood up and joined her in her toast, their glasses lifting high into the air. They were surprised when their voices were joined with many others, echoing out around the entire tavern, their glasses raised in solemn recognition.
“To the Resistance!”

Threads of Silver: Prelude - The Family Tree
Tumblr media
Here we go!! The beginning (well, not exactly) of Threads of Silver! This little introduction features  @nikyiscreepy ‘s Persephone Palerosine, as well as a mention of @the-al-chemist ‘s little gremlin...

“Hey, Matt!” Mayson Kowalski exclaimed, smiling. “How’re you today?”
Matthew Luther turned around to look down at his younger cousin. Behind him, Matthew could see Mayson’s fellow Slytherins heading to their next class, and a girl with light brown hair was waiting for him, tapping her foot.
“Mayson.” Matt said, clicking his tongue. “You need some of my notes again?”
The younger cousin’s cheeks went pink. “I…uh…” He stammered, before quickly regaining his composure. “Can’t I just say hi to my favourite cousin?” he asked innocently.
Matt chuckled. They’d fallen into a pattern of Mayson asking him for the notes he’d taken the year before; Mayson claimed he found them far more useful than his own notes. “Favourite cousin? I’m gonna tell Artemis you said that.”
Mayson’s eyes widened. “Aw, c’mon, man…I’m getting help with my broom-riding from her, ya can't…”
Matt raised his hands to reassure him “Don’t worry, I’m only fooling. Keep your trousers on.” “Pants, you mean.” Mayson said, smiling. As much as he was happy to be at Hogwarts, sometimes he missed New York, where as far as he was concerned, people spoke normally.
“Agree to disagree.” Matt said, pushing the hair out of his face, “so, what do you need?”
“We got an assignment from Binns.” Mayson explained, pulling a piece of parchment out of his pocket. “We gotta “Give an account of the end of the Mage Wars and how this led to the founding of Hogwarts.” It’s…there’s so much that happened, so many names to remember, I-”
Matthew nodded, remembering how it had been for him and his classmates to learn it all. “Well, if you want my advice, it’s not me who’s the resident history expert. There’s someone a little closer to home you can ask…”
At that point, the brown-haired girl yelled out for Mayson, and Matt noticed her socks, which had cat faces, were starting to hiss.
“Coming, Persephone!” Mayson yelled back. “We’ll talk later. Thanks Matt!” he said quickly before running off. Matt smiled and waved, before walking to the Great Hall, hoping to find who he was looking for there. When he did, he couldn’t stop the blush that appeared on his face.

“What?!” Mayson exclaimed later that night in the Slytherin Common Room, with most of the rest of Slytherin up in their dorm rooms. “You’re the “resident history expert”?!”
Merula Snyde huffed, placing down a large collection of notebooks and parchments . “Is that what you called me, Luther? Really, you’re too kind…”
Matthew was sitting there too, having snuck in earlier. Mayson didn’t miss the way they’d looked at each other as he’d come into the room. “Well, you do have the highest score in the class, Merula.”
“Because I find the subject interesting.” Merula shrugged, which Mayson translated as “I’m the only one who can stay awake listening to Binns ramble.” Which, to be fair, was an impressive feat. “Right,” she continued, “get your notebook out. We’ve got a lot to cover.”
Mayson looked up at her, a little confused. “I…I thought I was just gonna take the notes?”
Merula scoffed at the suggestion. “Nonsense. I’m not just going to let you copy my notes, you’ve got to have the full understanding. This is our history, y’know. Literally.”
Mayson raised an eyebrow. “Whaddya mean, “literally”?”
Matthew leaned forward. “Some of our direct relatives are involved here. My great great times…a whole load, grandparents.” he explained, pointing to himself, “and hers too. Plus a great aunt for good measure.”
Merula nodded. “See? And he only knows all of that because I explained it to him so brilliantly.”
Mayson shrugged. “...It’s either this or meticulously copy the notes, I suppose…alright. Let’s do this. We…don’t have to do it all tonight, do we?”
Matthew shook his head. “Nah, we’ll space it out. Your assignment is submitted in chunks anyway, so this’ll help.”
“Right!” Merula exclaimed. “If you’re both ready, I’m going to start…now…let’s see…Ah ha. Perfect. We’ll start with The Dream.”

The Phoenix Resistance || It all ends on May 2nd..
Just two days left before the Phoenix Resistance fic comes to an end! The finale kicks off tomorrow with @the-al-chemist and Artemis’s birthday!
The finale will be five parts releasing from May 1st to the 2nd. It’s considered to be the end, however stick around as the characters epilogues will be released slowly all throughout May. They are separate as they will all likely have big timeskips into the future and aren’t bound to the fics real life time publishing.
For all those who’ve stuck around with us the last 9 months, THANK YOU!! If you haven’t yet checked it out, now is a great time to binge Book 1 and Book 2 (which the Masterpost can be found at @phoenixresistance). It has been a work of love and I’m very proud of it, just giving the Masterpost a share would mean everything! This is also a shout out to all those who’ve contributed: @the-al-chemist, @lifeofkaze, @thatravenpuffwitch, @ellie-e-marcovitz I LOVE YOU GUYS 💕
